Dear Brother, Here's Why You Will Be The Best Man In My Life

The article name did make you a teeny bit happy, didn't it? Yeah, that's the brother I am talking about - the one who teases me to no end that I won't find a groom and yet puts aside money for the big day. The one who teases me that I look old, tired and haggard and yet tells me that I am too young to start worrying about life.

Yes, dear brother, you have always had my back and for that I can never thank you enough. While growing up, you played many a roles - brother, friend, partner-in-crime, guide, parent, teacher - too many to put down on a list.

Happy Raksha Bandhan brothers and sisters!! Look after each other â¤ï¸ðªð»

You made sure I always had a little extra chocolate (even though first you stole some of them), you made sure I had help with my lessons, you taught me the best way to steal milkmaid from the refrigerator without mum noticing, you bought me my first tri-cycle with your pocket money and you also taught me how to annoy anyone I wanted to with the most efficient tricks!

As I grew up, you made sure the boys at school knew I had an older brother watching over me, making sure that I didn't skip school, patiently teaching me trigonometry when everyone else failed or just, you know, bribing me for not ratting you out on your escapades. But that was just way your way of making me happy. You knew I wouldn't rat you out - we had a pact, we HAVE a pact! We are a team and I am glad the stork chose you for being my permanent team member!

Before we knew it, we were grown up and you were covering up for me when I came home drunk. I am glad you asked me how my night was and making sure I was okay rather than judging me for doing what people my age were supposed to do! It was the day I learnt to not let anyone question me or judge me for who I was (that was your job anyway ;). I am also glad that I had you to take me out of my blues after the first inevitable heartbreak. That taught me not all men were supposed to break my heart - there were still a few good ones out there.

As I moved out of the cocoon, you taught me how to brave it all and stand for myself. I know now what it must have felt like to let your little sister move to a new big city all by herself. I know now how much you fought on my behalf to let me live my dreams. And I can't thank you enough for believing in me when I was unsure of who I was. Knowing that I had you to catch me if I ever fell, I spread my wings and soared up. But you still remain my favourite teammate and I will still call for a huddle when it's time for anything new!
