An Indian fast bowler who had all the traits that made Pakistani fast bowlers a phenomenon, Zaheer Khan enthralled us all with his bowling might during his heydays, and after his retirement, he continues to be remembered as one of India's most-prolific bowlers of all time.
He swinged the new ball and reversed the old. He did well on flat subcontinent pitches and relished the helpful ones away. And, if that wasn't enough, Zaheer's ability to control all three balls - SG, Duke and Kookaburra - was just phenomenal. Often compared to Wasim Akram, Zak didn't quite have his skills, but mentally, the left-arm seamer was as good as the Pakistani great.
He knew how to get wickets at regular intervals. He also had an intuitive sense of timing before going for the kill. And, once a batsman showed him the slightest hint of a weakness, Zaheer preyed on it ruthlessly. That's probably the reason why he ended up claiming 311 scalps in Tests, 282 in ODIs and 17 in T20 Internationals.
So, on Saturday, when the former Indian speedster turned 39, we weren't really surprised to witness the fanfare on the social media as cricketers, fans and celebs all came together to pour in the wishes for his birthday.

But, amongst them all, social media king Virender Sehwag once again stole the show. Taking to Twitter, the 'Nawab of Najafgarh' wished Zak by tweeting: "Happy Birthday to one of India's greatest ever bowler and one of the sharpest cricketing brain, Gyaan Baba #LastBachelorsBirthday".
It was the witty hashtag in Sehwag's tweet that stood out from the rest, leaving everyone in splits. Zaheer, who got engaged to Sagarika Ghatge earlier this year, is set to get married to the 'Chak De! India' star on 27 November - which explains Sehwag's funny hashtag.
