Sunday was quite an eventful day for Indian sports. While New Zealand announced its grand entry by trouncing the Indian cricket team by 6 wickets, other sports took center-stage and covered up for this loss, proving once again that India is not just about cricket. The torch-bearer of this victory definitely is Kidambi Srikanth, who once again inked his name in the golden pages of Indian sports by winning his third Super Series Premier Title of the year at the Denmark Open.

World number 8, Srikanth, defeated South Korea's champion Lee Hyun-Il by 21-10, 21-5 in just 25 minutes and made it look like a cake-walk. The 37-year-old Lee Hyun-Il was left defenceless with the 24-year-old Srikanth's exceptional performance and didn't see his powerful smashes and shots coming.

According to The Times Of India, Srikanth being as humble as ever said, “Very happy to win another title. It's a good game I think he must have been tired after yesterday's long match. I am really happy with the way I have played today and I thank everyone for supporting me so much here. It has been a fantastic week for me. I am looking forward to coming back here and defend the title.” Well the prodigy, who won back-to-back titles in two consecutive weeks, is now gearing up for the French Open Super Series that will be held in Paris.

Like a proud father, coach Pullela Gopichand credited Srikanth for this victory and said, “It may have seemed easy, but Lee is a very tricky opponent and has a great reputation for coming back. It is to the credit of Srikanth that he used the weaknesses in his opponent and did not get complacent and kept his focus on winning points." He further added, “At end of game 1, I told him: He can come back, so put your head down and finish him. Take no prisoners.”

Although the match started at a great note with both the opponents giving each other a hard time, but the ball or should we say the shuttle, soon went in Srikanth's court and the match soon turned into a one-sided final. Within the first few minutes, Srikanth managed to gain a four-point lead with 9-5 in the first game. In the second game, he went on to gain a 10-point lead at 11-1. Things soon turned interesting and within 25 minutes, Srikanth proved who the real boss is. In fact, with this victory he has become the second Indian to win three Super Series titles in a year, after Saina Nehwal.

Srikanth's victory has made the whole nation proud and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the nation in commending this exceptional victory.
