This Minister Wants To Make Goa 'Expensive' For Indians So That Only Foreigners Can Visit It

Goa is basically home to every vacation lover in India. Be it with friends, family or just a solo trip, the beautiful state is our getaway paradise. We all have been through that stage where college friends make plans for a Goa trip and creating our very own 'Dil Chahta Hai' feels to our Goa pictures.

However, it seems like Vijai Sardesai, the state minister for agriculture and town and country planning has other plans for a better future of the state. He actually wants to discourage Indian visitors from planning any visits here. According to a report in Times Of India, he said, "Goa should become so expensive that tourists should say that it is not worth coming to Goa. Which tourists ... the Indian tourists. We must have high end facilities and get high end tourism, which benefits the sons of the soil. Why do we need these common tourists? It is not only about quantity, but also about quality of tourists coming to Goa. They say that today 64 lakh tourists come and we will take it to 1 crore. You don't need them. Reduce the numbers and instead bring the high spenders in”.

While one is not questioning the intentions of the state ministry. Surely, thinking of welfare and enhancing infrastructure for better revenue that comes from tourism is important, but having an agenda where domestic visitors are dissuaded is nothing short of absurd. People are already questioning the whole thing.

Yo Vijai Sardesai, while you're at it, whyncha invite Portugal to take over GOA again? https://t.co/LmKjIFFK7b That way you can really keep Indians out, 'cos then they will need passports & visas to come to Goa!

This development is clearly spelling out that the state wants to focus on a particular kind of tourist, which is not only unfair but extremely bizarre. Goa is everyone's favourite holiday destination in the country and making these remarks only highlights how lowly we perceive our own people.
