It was a proud moment for the country when Nirmala Sitharaman became the defence minister in 2017. For those who don't know, she is the second woman defence minister that our country has had, after Indira Gandhi.
And today, it is yet another proud moment, not just for her but for every Indian as well.
By going on a sortie in a Sukhoi- 30 fighter jet, she became the first Indian woman defence minister to do so.
Before the take off, Sitharaman met the air warriors of the Indian Air Force at the Air Force Station Jodhpur.

— Raksha Mantri (@DefenceMinIndia) January 17, 2018Since the day she became the Defence Minister, she has been spending a lot of time travelling to the Army, Air Force and Navy bases to understand their operations and to review the operational preparedness and combat capabilities. And this was just another step in that process.
Just like us, the internet was left beaming with pride after these pictures and videos were posted by the official twitter handle of 'Raksha Mantri'.
1. This Is Awesome Indeed. My kind of feminism: Nirmala Sitharaman is not only India's first full time woman defence minister but also the coolest one. Dons the uniform like a boss and flies a sortie of a Sukhoi MKI.
