It has been widely rumoured that new iPhone models may be unveiled later this year at WWDC and there is a high chance it would be the new iteration of the iPhone SE. However, a new report from Taiwan's Economic Daily News suggests that the only new devices that will be announced at Apple's annual event will be new iPads.

The reports further suggest that Apple is expected to launch an updated version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and a brand new 11-inch iPad Pro at WWDC 2018. Sources have detailed that the new tablets are supposed to have thinner bezels and feature the A11X processor just like the iPhone X. In fact, it will be very similar to Apple's current flagship device and will also support Face ID. This could mean that the home button will be removed from the tablet as well. 

The main premise of the report appears to be that Apple will not announce a new iPhone WWDC this year and sources believe that Apple will announce the smartphone in the second half of the year.

It is worth noting that a new affordable iPhone cannot be completely ruled out and it is expected to have same design updates as the iPhone X. However, KGO securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo cast doubt over the iPhone SE revival as it would cost a lot of money and resources to bring back the affordable device.

This can be further corroborated as other reports have suggested Apple is working on two new OLED iPhone models alongside a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model. It is highly unlikely that a fourth phone would be launched by Apple as it would cause confusion amongst their customers and may also affect sales of more expensive models.
