  2. Breakups are not that bad, if you really think about it. They help us be clearer about what we are looking for in a partner and evolve as a person. However, at the same time, we don’t give two hoots about what lies beyond this tragic and sudden ending of a beautiful relationship that we didn’t even see coming. It’s the worst feeling. © UTV Motion Pictures However, watching movies about breakups and scenes we can resonate with does help. Basically, these scenes help us understand that we are not alone, heartbreaks happen and people survive (or end up together in the end). Not all movies get it right, but some truly capture the emotions and feelings one goes through during a breakup so well, that we almost feel like it’s happening to us. © Yash Raj Films Here are five of the saddest and most heart-wrenching movie scenes where the onscreen couple broke up and we felt the pain as if it was happening to us: 1. Jai Tells Meghna He Loves Aditi (Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na) © Aamir Khan Productions As much as we wanted Jai and Aditi to end up together, we all felt super bad for Meghna when her boyfriend yells at her for acting childish and running away from reality, while it was simply her way of dealing with her broken family. The next he tells her he loves his best friend and breaks up with her. She still understands and kisses him goodbye. 2. Tara begs Ved To Stay (Tamasha) © UTV Motion Pictures The most iconic scene from the movie is when Tara realises she hurt Ved by saying she fell in love with the cheerful person he was in Corsica and that he needs help. She meets him and refuses to let go but he leaves anyway. This scene is so emotional and the song ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ makes it a true tear-jerker. 3. Vijay Calls Off The Wedding (Queen) © Wide Frame Pictures There is so much to learn from Kangana Ranaut’s Queen and we are glad that Vijay ended things with Rani, because she wouldn’t have taught us that breakups don’t mean the end of the world otherwise. But the scene where they meet up in a restaurant a day before the wedding and he says he doesn’t want to marry her while the innocent Rani has no idea that he is leaving her, for good (pun intended) is so heart-wrenching. 4. Charu Breaks Liquid’s Heart (Pyaar Ka Punchnama) © Viacom18 Motion Pictures The movie is practically a guide on how to not pick a partner. All three boys are fooled and played by their girlfriends or potential girlfriends but Nishant aka Liquid had the worst experience of all. Not exactly a breakup but how Charu insults him and leaves him crying like a helpless child after leading him on for so long is truly devastating. 5. Zaara Meets Veer For The Last Time (Veer-Zaara) © Yash Raj Films The scene where Zaara meets Veer for what they thought was the last time still makes us bawl our eyes out. The song ‘Do Pal’, the melancholy theme and the powerful performances of the most talented actors made the scene feel too real. Admit it, you cried your eyes out when Zaara ran into Veer’s arms after parting ways once and then left him behind in tears. Iconic. View the full article
  3. The Family Man 2 has been a popular subject on the internet lately, with many attributing its rawness and relatability as prime reasons for its virality. Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikant Tiwari in particular has received widespread acclaim. In Season 2, Srikant experiences a paradigm shift where he enters the corporate world; a different kind of challenge for our protagonist. As expected, this change results in him facing certain difficulties. A scene that stood out from The Family Man 2 involved Sri and his wife Suchi (Priyamani) paying a visit to their therapist. © Prime Video Divija Bhasin, a counselling psychologist and popular internet personality, reacted to this scene for her followers on Instagram. She does commend the makers for capturing Sri’s hesitance at undergoing therapy accurately. For a society still figuring out the universe of mental health, hesitant clients aren’t unheard of. She correctly points out the underwhelming portrayal of the therapist as well. From the character’s lazy efforts at building rapport to his insistence on talking about topics his client is visibly uncomfortable with. Actual therapeutic advice does not sound like pop-quotes that one finds outside corporate washrooms. You can check the video out here. View this post on Instagram We caught up with Divija and asked her a couple of questions on the role and importance of movies and TV shows in raising awareness around the subject of mental health. What is the role of movies and TV shows in sensitizing the audience to the world of mental health?“Movies and TV shows play a huge role in changing the way people think about mental health. You might not realise that you’re getting influenced but every time you watch any form of media, it reinforces your way of thinking. For instance, if you see a movie where a therapist is shown negatively you might associate those negative traits to all therapists without realizing it. If mental health professionals are shown in a realistic manner, there’s a higher chance of you getting open to the idea of going to one. Similarly, if certain mental illnesses are trivialized or romanticised, you’ll start having similar opinions about them without realizing that they came from these movies/TV shows. TV shows and movies are as important as books when it comes to learning and unlearning ideas. It’s not just entertainment.” © Prime Video What would be three suggestions you’d give to someone who’s approaching therapy for the first time?- Make sure to check the qualifications of the therapist (they should have at least an MA in Psychology). - Do your research and be aware about the red flags to look for in a therapist so you know if the one you’re planning to see is good or not - Be mentally prepared that it might take a few sessions for you to feel better and see results. Could you name a few movies or TV shows where you feel the experience of therapy has been shown positively?- Good Will Hunting - Dear Zindagi - It’s Kind Of A Funny Story - Big Little Lies © Dharma Productions What would you say to encourage people who have been burned by their initial experiences with therapy?“There are all kinds of therapists out there. A therapist who might work for you might not work for someone else (This often happens in the case of doctors as well). It’s all about finding the right fit. It’s normal to feel discouraged if your first experience with a therapist has been bad. You can take some time off and once you feel that you are ready again, give it another shot with a new therapist.” Considering the taboo that has traditionally been associated with the subject of mental health, its depiction to an impressionable audience needs to be done responsibly by the stakeholders involved. It is important to discuss these subjects in TV shows and movies, and pop culture in general, but such should be done with the required nuance and sensitivity. View the full article
  4. People in India despise censorship of shows and movies, until it comes to something they feel personally offended by and then they are all for proper action against the people responsible. The topic of censorship is always highly debated and sure, all the content should be regulated to some extent but only a small group of people controlling everything sounds a little iffy. When it comes to censorship of content on OTT platforms in India, people have very strong and distinct opinions. There have been so many controversies, so many boycotts for shows streaming online, the term boycott has almost lost all its meaning at this point. © Prime Video There's only one source of content left that is not completely regulated and the makers can actually present the shows and movies they want as they intended. A few months ago, it was announced that all digital content will come under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, today, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar was quoted as saying that all the OTT content doesn't come under censor board. We've received a lot of complaints against some serials available on OTT platforms. Films & serials released on OTT platforms &digital newspapers don't come under purview of Press Council Act, Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act or Censor Board: Union Min Prakash Javadekar pic.twitter.com/irMrymxfan — ANI (@ANI) January 31, 2021 But, he added that guidelines for that would be laid out soon. Guidelines will be announced regarding their functioning soon: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar — ANI (@ANI) January 31, 2021 So, one can assume that after the guidelines are out, the shows and movies on digital platforms would be expected to follow that, but they won't be under as much scrutiny as say Bollywood movies. It's all a little unclear as of now and maybe we will get some clarity once these guidelines are announced. But for now, the first thing people thought of after seeing this new development was the porn ban. Adult content is, of course, banned in India so people are now asking why is porn banned when the content on OTT platforms, which they deem pretty close to porn, is allowed to air uncensored. So porn is ban, but porn can be shown on OTT platforms. Kya logic hai bhai — Ninda Turtle || Squint Neon Stan (@NindaTurtles) January 31, 2021 People are really fired up about porn. Also India: We don't have any regulations for digital media and OTT platforms. OTT platforms: They now literally make porn which is hilariously enough recommended by YouTube Ads. Aren't OTT and porn sites using the same means to disperse content? https://t.co/Oz1AJp5IGW — Rishabh Jain (@rj1182) January 31, 2021 I can't believe this. 5. This article contains heavy spoilers. Proceed with caution. If you see Bran's character arc, it's risen tremendously from how he was portrayed in Season 1, till the most recent Season, where he's named king of the six realms. But if you think about it, his journey wasn't just another teenager who finds true meaning in life and becomes the Three-Eyed-Raven. He was very carefully orchestrating and plotting his own storyline, which in all probability, was highly overshadowed from the rest of us. © HBO When the gang of survivors were holding a discussion as to who the next king should be, everyone unanimously decided upon Bran. Tyrion, of course, gave his two cents on why Bran should be the ruler of the 7 kingdoms and with a common consensus, Bran was named king of the 6 kingdoms, giving Sansa complete autonomy to rule the North on her own. Right after he was appointed king, Tyrion asked Bran if he wanted it and Bran said: ''why do you think I've come all this way"? That statement might have been something we missed delving deeper into but come to think of it, it's a pretty loaded statement, which could tell us that Bran had been planning taking over the realm since the beginning! Or since he became the Three-Eyed-Raven, who actually wanted to lead and rule all, according to some theories. © HBO But, let's fish out some actual facts on why Bran could be the ultimate villain who was silently rooting for the throne, for himself. First off, Bran knows everything that has happened and will happen in the future. We're not sure how far he can see into the future but it's a sufficient amount to predict things that may happen and avoid the things that shouldn't. The very fact that he let most things happen, even though he could have stopped them is highly suspicious. For example, if he knew Euron was going to attack Daenerys' fleet, he could have asked her to change her strategy, but he didn't. He kept quiet until Dany lost one of her dragon's in Euron's attack. For someone who 'sees' everything, this seemed quite intentional. © HBO Next, let's look at the Night King's death. I agree that episode 3 of 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 was absolutely haywire, where nothing made sense. Not just the fact that almost everyone survived the army of the dead and that the Night King died, frivolously, after 7 Seasons of absolute build-up, also that his death seemed very inferior compared to how he was shown or talked about in the show. But, keeping that bit aside, Bran warged into the ravens during the war and we never really figured out what he was trying to do. They never showed the part where his warging helped out the war in any way possible. Popular fan theories suggest that Bran cooked up a deal with the Night King, which lured him towards Bran, and since Bran had given Arya the Valyrian Steel dagger earlier, he knew the NK's actual fate. There was no form of expression or relief on Bran's face when Arya killed the Night King. © HBO Also, if you think about it, Bran giving the Valyrian Steel dagger to Arya, which foreshadowed the Night King's death and telling Samwell, Arya and Sansa about Jon's true lineage and not letting out anything else, is a great tactic. This way, he made sure his claim to the throne was intact, getting rid of his enemies one by one. Arya killed the Night King with the dagger Bran gave her and everyone knew Jon was a Targaryen after Bran revealed it, which led to Dany losing her mind towards the end, and eventually dying for it. And that's how Bran got rid of two tough contenders, one by one. And while the two wars were taking place, Bran took a back seat and watched things unfold. Things he'd set in motion himself. Very clever Bran! How did the #NightKing change Craster's babies? By touching them. How did he change Viserion? By touching it. What did Bloodraven say to #BranStark in the cave? "He touched you."#foodforthought#nightking #GameofThrones — Vladimir Furdik (@Vladimir_furdik) 28 April 2019 Which is actually true. Even though Bran met the NK earlier through a vision, the NK had touched him and left his mark. Did Bran change post that and wished to take control over everything else and discovered his evil-dark side? The fifth episode of Season 8 also has an interesting fan theory. Dany had decided to withdraw if and when King's Landing rang the bells in surrender. But even after the bells were rung, she went Dracarys on the entire kingdom! Earlier, if you see Dany, while the bells are ringing, she is looking towards the Red Keep where Cersei is standing, making it seem like she's going to charge towards Cersei and kill her and destroy just the Red Keep. But she ends up destroying the entire city. Now, the theory states that Bran probably warged into Drogon, Dany's dragon, and burnt the city down to ashes. © HBO Not once did they show Dany's face when Drogon was spitting fire. Maybe he wasn't in her control and was doing whatever he wanted because his consciousness had been taken over by Bran. There's also a shot of Drogon's shadow over King's Landing when he's spewing fire and it's identical to the vision Bran had a few seasons ago, which could also amount to something. And if Drogon was spitting fire recklessly while Dany was confused about his actions, it could just mean that Dany, in all probability, wasn't the Mad Queen after all and that Bran is just pure evil! © HBO While all these are just theories, they do give us something to think about. How can someone, who sees the future and knows the past never strategise during a big war? How was he always quiet? Why was no one consulting him on what to do next? Why didn't anyone else consider Jon Snow, the true heir, for the throne? After an entire build up over his revelation of being a Targaryen and Bran's constant vision of Jon's birth at the Tower of Joy in Dorne, the throne eventually went to Bran. Isn't it quite strange? © HBO Well, I like to believe Bran played a great game and made everyone believe he is the rightful king, even though he is not and he knew it all along, especially when he uttered, "why do you think I've come all this way". Now, we aren't sure if he means he's come all this way from the North to be named king, or that he's always been plotting and planning for the throne, by being the Three-Eyed-Raven and has come all this way to take the throne. We'll never truly know! But let's see what George RR Martin has in store for us, through his upcoming books!
  6. For the uninitiated, 'Tinder Nightmares' is a rather hilarious page on Instagram that narrates, through screenshots, instances of bad Tinder openers or one liners. Mostly it's the guy doing the talking and the woman being at the receiving end of it but it's not all that morose or perverse, because some of the stuff is actually quite funny. Usually when women see an unabashed, volatile message on Tinder from a guy, they either ignore it or un-match him but some of these women have been nothing short of savage and have given the men a complete run for some of the smart alec comments made by them. Maybe our generation doesn't know how to start a simple conversation with a 'hi' or maybe we're so entitled to demand what is not ours, that garbing really insulting one-liners has become a thing, for this generation. Whatever it is, there's a page made about it now and everyone's deriving unscrupulous pleasures out of it, including me! Bet this group was made by a bunch of pissed off women? Anyway, we've compiled the best screenshots from Tinder, taken and put up by this page proving Tinder can be an actual nightmare sometimes! 7. The FIFA World Cup 2018 is in full swing and it seems to be the only thing on everyone's mind right now. There are so many people writing, tweeting, making jokes about it, but who needs all the technical analysis and commentary about the games, when we have someone who's describing and distinguishing players by how they look? I'm assuming there are so many casual football fans who just want to feel included right now, but the actual updates about the matches can get a little overwhelming when you don't know everything about what's going on. For this reason, there is one person in particular whose hilarious commentary is honestly winning the internet right now. When a Twitter user's boyfriend couldn't watch the game since he was travelling, she became the best girlfriend ever and gave him the updatesof the match. My boyfriend asked me to text him updates from the #ENGTUN game as he's on his way home. You can't say it's not accurate. #WorldCuppic.twitter.com/fOIUKsMLus — lightningstarr (@lightningstarr) June 18, 2018 Well, as she put it, you can't say it's not accurate. Who needs the actual name when you can say a sheepish looking player got a yellow card and then an English man fell 'violently' after a light tap? She didn't even spare the referee. We honestly need someone like her to call out people on the field, then maybe even I'll start watching all the games. With such hilarious updates, it wouldn't have made sense if she didn't go viral. So many people agreed with me about the fact this was actually better than the commentary, because that's just the truth. As funny as the original tweet was, the replies are also equally hilarious. Simple appreciation. You NEED to get paid for this. My husband is rolling on the floor ð¤£ð¤£ð¤£ — Kathleen (@KathleenKat2) June 20, 2018 Followed by some trolling. Rolling on the floor? 8. Parodies are the best thing ever, especially the low budget ones, and if you disagree, I'm sorry to tell you, but you're wrong. Whenever a trailer for a movie comes – especially a highly anticipated or big-budget movie – there are always spoofs about it and they're almost always hilarious. Remember a couple of months ago there was a low-budget spoof of the 'Avengers: Infinity War' trailer and it was so hilarious yet impressive, even Russo brothers replied to the video? If you haven't seen this before, then you need to watch it like right now, because it's that good. Who did it better? @MarvelStudios pic.twitter.com/k504zAadGB — Aiman Sany (@awesomerawks) March 17, 2018 And, now another hilarious low-budget trailer is here about the most meme-able movie of the year. We're talking about 'Race 3', of course. The trailer honestly seemed like a huge meme in itself, and when you get over how cringy the trailer actually is, you actually start enjoying it. Here's the whole spoof and I have to say I enjoyed this way more than the actual trailer. Full props for that hilarious improvisation and a shoutout to that pink helicopter. Just imagine if Anil Kapoor had actually come out of a pink hello kitty chopper? I would've definitely watched the movie first day first show then. © YouTube © YouTube Now, comes the best thing to come out of this video – Salman Khan himself reacted to it! Salman Khan in splits as he watches fans ape him at the launch of #duskadum #instalike #instagood #instafit #salmankhan #instadaily @manav.manglani A post shared by Manav Manglani (@manav.manglani) on May 28, 2018 at 11:46pm PDT The 'our business is our business, none of your business' is honestly the most profound and deep dialogue we've gotten in a really long time and, going by the video, even Salman Khan appreciates it a lot, after all, it's the only thing 'Race 3' is known for at the moment. Just kidding, but it is one hilarious dialogue and I'm surprised that they put such a lame line in the trailer. Or maybe, just maybe, that was their plan all along. That one line is the biggest desi meme right now and the movie just got so much free publicity because of it. © Instagram Whatever the case may be, they're fully embracing the lameness now, I mean just look how hard Salman is laughing at the spoof, it looks like he might've almost peed his pants. The hilarious video has been made by a group of kids from Odisha and I must say, they really are super talented. Here's their YouTube channel.
  9. I have already written so many stories about 'Avengers: Infinity War 'and the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I've lost count. But, am I bored of it yet? Far from it, and it seems like I'm not the only one. Everyone will keep talking about this epic movie probably until the next one comes out and everyone knows that their favorite character is coming back to life or not, and I'm not complaining. I'm more than happy to dig out more stuff and more theories about this and share with my fellow Marvel fans and all the people who felt personally victimized by Marvel because of that ending, so we'll just avoid talking about that. You know what's a good suggestion for all the movies you watch in the future, especially Marvel movies? Go back and watch the trailers again, they portray things quite differently in that so as to not give out spoilers. For months, we were all watching and re-watching the trailers just to look out for anything that we've missed, but turns out even Marvel was playing games with us. They changed up so many scenes just for the trailer, so that people couldn't figure out what will actually go down in the actual movie. Here are some examples and well, Marvel did do a good job at hiding some scenes, have to give them that. 1. That Running Shot To paraphrase Robert Downey Jr's epic Twitter Bio, you know what I'm talking about, the battle charge in Wakanda, with Captain America, Bucky, The Hulk, Black Widow, Black Panther and Okoye running. Yes, this scene, probably the most popular shot before the movie came out, and even after, tbh. But, it's not even real. If you've seen the movie – obviously you have because why would you reading this right now – then you know the hilarious struggle between Bruce Banner and The Hulk where, The Hulk basically tells Bruce "no", like a moody teenager. So, yes The Hulk doesn't make an appearance in the movie except for the beginning scene and well, this shot is now a lie. 2. Thor Meeting Guardians Of The Galaxy Since 'Infinity War' was pegged as the biggest crossover ever, Marvel obviously showed us all the different characters meeting each other for the first time ever. Remember how in the trailer, when Thor asks the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' that, 'Who the hell are you guys?' and they just smile and wave at him? In the movie, this meeting wasn't that civil but was more of a war. Initially, the guardians are so ready to attack the God of Thunder but all's well when we get one of the most hilarious scenes in the movie where Star-Lord is so jealous and insecure because of Thor. Also, Drax fanboying over the beauty of Odin's son is unforgettable. 3. Bruce Banner And Natasha Romanoff's Reunion In the trailer, Marvel set the sequence of the scenes so perfectly that at one point, it looked like Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff had a very nice and friendly reunion. But, in reality, their reunion happened in a totally different setting and it was as awkward as Bruce in the entire movie. 4. Thanos And The Infinity Stones The iconic scene in the trailer where we see the infinity gauntlet in all its glory, well turns out that is kind of a lie, kind of. If you notice closely, you can see that Thanos is on Titan at this moment, but when this scene actually happened in the movie, he already had four stones, and only needed the time stone and mind stone to wipe out half of the universe with just a snap of his fingers. 5. Loki Giving Up The Tesseract This one, honestly, is all about the context. The trailer shows Loki with the tesseract, which contains the time stone. In the movie, he did give Thanos his second infinity stone, but he did that to save Thor's life. So, it all depends on your perception of the scene in the trailer. 6. God Of Thunder's 'Thunder' In the trailer, there's a very dramatic scene where Thor raises his hand and there's just so much thunder. Yep, this one. What a beautiful scene, it's a shame it never made it into the movie. But, Marvel did make it up to us by giving us that epic entry by Thor in Wakanda. I'm not exaggerating when I say that literally, every person in the theatre started cheering at that moment. Moreover, look at the gif closely, Thor is not even holding anything when ideally he should have had his new cool axe. 7. The Hulkbuster Scene Remember when Tony Stark made the Hulkbuster to counter The Hulk. While he never needed to wear it in the movie, since The Hulk was just a no-show, the armor still made an appearance in the trailer. Well, it's just so ironic that since The Hulk decided to not corporate with Bruce, he ended up wearing the Hulkbuster while fighting Thanos and 'his children' in Wakanda. But hey, when it works, it works. 8. Thanos Crushing Thor's Head Well, the trailer made us think that Thor might just die at the hands of Thanos with a one-second scene where he seems to be crushing his head. As we all know that this scene never really took place in the movie. It was just Thanos using some kind of torture device instead. 9. Thanos And The Infinity Stones 'Part Two' I don't know what Marvel achieved by keeping the number of infinity stones Thanos has a secret at every point in the trailer. Maybe, they wanted people to think that it was actually really hard for Thanos to acquire all the infinity stones and give us false hope that all our favourite characters will be safe. But, as we all know that during this memorable scene in the movie, Thanos already has all the stones, except the mind stone.
  10. With passing time, the role of a woman on the big screen has been changing constantly. There was a time when she was just used on-screen for decorative purposes, but time has changed and women have really traveled a long way along in the film industry. They are no more the 'abala naari' who need a man to protect them, but who would ideally want a man to just be with them. She is now the woman of substance and doesn't fear from speaking her mind out publicly and stand for her rights. She still belongs to this patriarchal society, but now she is also a rebel. It's interesting to see how with time Hindi cinema has adapted to reality and has tried to show the changing time, culture and influences. From a woman struggling to get her foothold, making it big in the big corporate world to simply bringing a story of a housewife, films have indeed changed. From Meena Kumari to Vidya Balan, from 'Bandit Queen' to 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', the women in films are no more just a visual treat but have been playing pivotal roles creating a huge change both on-screen and off-screen. We bring you 13 films where women were the real heroes and had a brilliant cast supporting them. 1957: 'Mother India' Mehboob Production Considered to be Nargis Dutt's best performance till date, 'Mother India is one such movie that actually changed the way Indian films used to portray women. A classic from the early era of Indian Cinema, this film is a must watch. Nargis plays Radha, a poor villager who has struggled throughout her life to raise her two sons. She is said to be the woman who never supports wrong and stands up for justice. Staying true to her ethics and beliefs, she ends up killing her own son just for justice. Now that's totally something! 1987: 'Mirch Masala' Eagle You might have not really watched this one but Ketan Mehta's 'Mirch Masala' brings in a tale of an ordinary woman Sonbai played by Smitha Patil from a village, who decides to say no to powerful authorities. You also have a story of another woman played by Deepti Naval who is the wife of the village's sarpanch. She is someone who revolts against her own husband because she wants to educate her own daughters. While this might look like a normal story to you today, this was released in a regressive time when a woman standing for her rights was a huge deal. 1994: 'Bandit Queen' Saregama Based on the life of Indian dacoit, Phoolan Devi, this movie literally can give you goosebumps. Played by Seema Biswas, the movie brings about the tale of a woman who fought with every man from police to goons who once destroyed her life. It's shown how she overpowers these powerful men. This Shekhar Kapoor's film was based on the biography named India's Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi by Mala Sen. 2000: 'Astitva' Twitter How about a movie that actually highlights the male chauvinist culture of our country? Well, we often use this term but Mahesh Manjrekar actually made a brilliant movie 'Astitva' starring Tabu in 2000. The film simply brings up the issue of domestic abuse, extramarital affair, that a woman is often aware of but is forbidden from talking about it. The movie introduces you to Aditi Shrikant Pandit's (Tabu) story who is trying to find her own identity outside her so-called happy marriage. Finally, she takes a bold step and moves away from her husband and son with her help of her to-be daughter-in-law, Namrata Shirodkar, who ends up leaving her boyfriend as too. Well, a win-win for both the females. 2011: 'No One Killed Jessica' UTV The Jessica Lal murder case literally shocked the entire nation. Based on the real-life incident, this film shows the tale of Sabrina Lal (Vidya Balan) who fights against the wealthy and influential people who were involved in the murder of her sister. On another hand, you also have Rani Mukerji who plays a journalist and helps Sabrina in every way possible. Give this one a watch. 2013: 'English Vinglish' Eros Some stories are just too beautiful, 'English Vinglish' falls on the list of that one. Directed by Gauri Shinde, this is an ordinary story of a housewife Shashi Godbole played by the iconic Sridevi. The story flawlessly shows how the woman who makes your house a home, is an exceptional mother, and also how a wife is looked down by her husband and kids, just because she can't speak English fluently. She is hurt like any human would be. Tables turn during her trip to the US, where she learns the language and despite overcoming her shortcomings and proving her family wrong, she still remains a wonderful homemaker like always. An impressive tale, that simply touches your heart. 2014: 'Queen' Viacom18 Motion Pictures Some stories give you the much required feel-good factor and Kangana Ranaut's 'Queen' totally falls into that category. The movie brings you a beautiful story of Rani who decides to take a honeymoon alone when her fiancé, played by Rajkummar Rao, decides to call off the wedding. When she travels the world, she comes across different people and learns new things about life. She comes back as a changed person all set to start her life on her own terms. 2014: 'Mary Kom' Viacom18 Motion Pictures 'Mary Kom' is an inspiring story of Indian boxer M.C. Mary Kom who won India great awards internationally. Played by Priyanka Chopra, the story brilliantly takes us through Kom's life. What makes this film special is all the hardships she went through to make it big in her career. The understanding shown between Kom's husband and her is what many need today. We also get to see how she makes a smashing comeback after her marriage and having babies. 2014: 'Mardaani' Yash Raj Films This is indeed one hell of a film to watch. The story of 'Mardaani' revolves around Shivani Roy a female cop donned by Rani Mukerji, who is all set to take down goons no matter what. She gets a new case where she has to fight the organisation involved in child trafficking and drugs. The performance by Rani is worthy of all the applause and praise. 2016: 'Neerja' Fox India This is the inspiring story of flight purser Neerja Bhanot who was shot by the terrorists and killed while she was trying to save lives of hundreds of passengers when Pan Am Flight 73 was hijacked. Played by Sonam Kapoor, this is one of her best performances till the date. 2016: 'Pink' RSE Well, many find it kind of difficult to understand the meaning of 'No' and that's what the movie 'Pink' is all about. The movie clearly states not to judge a woman based on her lifestyle and a man cannot force a woman against her will. Amitabh Bachchan dons the advocate hat that fights for the girls in a legal battle against boys who comes from rich influential families. 2017: 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' Prakash Jha Production This film is an honest portrayal of our not-so-sanskari society. Alankrita Shrivastava's movie is about lives of four women living in Bhopal who have their own simple problems. The film openly talks about a woman's sexual desire and believe us, it's not a woman-oriented film. But something that even the sensible men in our society would relate with. An amazing watch indeed! 2017: 'Tumhari Sulu' T-Series This one is such a feel-good film that Vidya Balan will literally charm your boots off and will make you fall in love with Sulu. Director Suresh Triveni's 'Tumhari Sulu' is the story of a middle-class family which is so heart-warming that from the first frame to the last, you are totally invested in the story. The film tells the tale of Sulochana Dubey (Vidya Balan) aka Sulu who is a housewife and lives with her husband Ashok (Manav Kaul) and son Pranav. You often see her coming up with silly plans to do something or the other. One day out of the blue, she lands the role of a late-night radio jockey. Her sexy voice and her unique perspective in dealing with people's problems make it an adventurous ride until reality catches up with her. What makes 'Tumhari Sulu' so impactful is that it makes you celebrate small things in life. It teaches you the importance of accepting each other's idiosyncrasies wholeheartedly. A movie that you just can't miss.
  11. A royal engagement means everyone digging up everything about the new royal bride to be, and Meghan Markle can't escape that. Prince Harry has gone from most eligible bachelor probably in the entire world, to happily betrothed, and obviously people are curious about the woman who made it happen. Even though the actress leads quite a low-key life, we all have been learning so many new things about her for the past few days, the main one being her stint on the TV show 'Deal Or No Deal' as one of the briefcase girls. Yes, she never hid it, but it resurfaced again after the royal engagement was announced. Before getting her big break with the hit legal drama 'Suits', Markle was an actress in Los Angeles, and what do struggling actresses do? Take jobs to pay the bills, and she was doing exactly that. © Twitter Way before she was winning everyone's hearts with her role of Rachel Zane on 'Suits', Markle was one of the 24 'briefcase girls' on 'Deal Or No Deal', and even though it might sound like a glamourous job, she admitted it was more of a making ends meet kind of gig. In an interview with Esquire (http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/interviews/a23925/meghan-markle-interview/ )a few years back, she said, “I would put that in the category of things I was doing while I was auditioning to try to make ends meet. I went from working in the U.S. Embassy in Argentina to ending up on Deal. It's run the gamut.” © Twitter During her senior year of college, Markle served as a political intern, as she mentioned above. She obviously is smart, talented and beautiful, maybe that's why people were a little surprised by her appearance on 'Deal Or No Deal'. She added, “Definitely working on Deal or No Deal was a learning experience, and it helped me to understand what I would rather be doing. So if that's a way for me to gloss over that subject, then I will happily shift gears into something else.” But, unfortunately she never had the winning case. “I didn't ever have it,” she explained. “I don't think I did. I was the ill-fated number 26, which for some reason no one would ever choose. I would end up standing up there forever in these terribly uncomfortable and inexpensive five-inch heels just waiting for someone to pick my number so I could go and sit down.” Here's Meghan in action. Long before Meghan Markle was a soon-to-be royal, she was a case model on Deal or No Deal. pic.twitter.com/IUhwbl1vjQ — E! News (@enews) November 28, 2017 Honestly though, forget Monday motivation, this is some Wednesday motivation for all of us. If Meghan Markle can go from being a briefcase girl to an actual real life princess, then we can do anything, and people on Twitter agree. Yes, you can do it! 12. ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen has been an agriculturist since 1978. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, is hearing the petition filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi seeking the disqualification of Tareen and PTI Chairman Imran Khan for non-disclosure of his assets and ownership of offshore companies. As the hearing began, Tareen's counsel, Sikandar Bashir Mohmand, informed the court he could not submit the lease record due to a shortage of time. He informed the bench that 18,500 acres were acquired by his client in 2010 on lease. He said Tareen grows sugar, mangos, and cotton on his farms and then set up a sugar mill in 2002. The chief justice remarked that the lease agreements fail to mention where and how much the land in question is. "You need to satisfy us that the person from whom land was taken on lease was the owner of the land. We want to see the record of the revenue department first, as only that will tell the situation on the ground," the chief justice observed. At the last hearing on October 5, the bench, while observing discrepancies in Tareen's assets, had sought record of the 18,564 acres of land.
  13. Xiaomi’s latest offering in the ultra-budget smartphone bracket comes in the form of the Redmi 4 that has the potential to disrupt the norm of all budget smartphones. The Redmi Note 4 was one of the most revered budget smartphones that broke all sorts of records, however, we feel the Chinese company's latest offering is a true marvel. © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma The smartphone offers a great design and performance that matches mid-tier phones and has a battery life that can last for days. Priced between Rs 6,999 and Rs 10,999, the smartphone is the premium looking smartphone everyone wanted in the affordable category. It replaces the Redmi 3S Prime as this year’s upgrade. The Redmi 4 may be an upgrade of its predecessors but we feel it's so much more than that. Design Language © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma We could not help but notice that the smartphone had taken inspiration from the Redmi Note 4 and it isn't necessarily a bad thing. It has a sleek metal unibody and looks sturdy enough to take brutal fall damage. The metal finish is accompanied by curved edges which ergonomically improves the gripping of the smartphone. Right off the bat, the smartphone gives you the premium feel that most Xiaomi users are accustomed to. The front panel is a 2.5D curved glass which adds to the premium look and feel. © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma The fingerprint sensor is placed at the rear of the smartphone, right below the camera sensor. The camera sensor sits right above the antenna line which is exactly the same as the Redmi Note 4. The smartphone is 8.6mm thick, weighs in at 150g and is just 139.2mm long. The smartphone is available in two colours i.e. Gold and Black, however, we prefer the black version since it looks very classy. Operating System and User Interface © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma My favourite thing about any Xiaomi smartphone is their custom UI. I used to flash my Galaxy S3 and load it up it MIUI back in the day. The UI on the Redmi 4 is easy to use and is based on Android 6.0. The operating system lets the user do a lot of customisations where you have a choice of a plethora of themes and wallpapers to suit your needs. The UI is packed with other features such as Second Space, Lite Mode, Dual Apps, Fingerprint Lock for apps and Do-Not-Disturb. All in all, the software on the smartphone runs flawlessly and made our experience easier than expected with no glitches and unexpected crashes. Performance © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma The Redmi 4 has 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor. Thanks to the software, we did not notice any glitches or lags while performing daily tasks. Multi-tasking and launching of apps were fairly smooth and there wasn’t any noticeable overheating during gaming sessions. Having said that, the smartphone would face a few glitches when playing heavy duty games like 'Injustice 2', however, if you plan to play light games such as 'Pokemon Go' or 'Super Mario Run', you’re good to go. In fact, we would recommend this smartphone for 'Pokemon Go' players simply because of the immense battery life on this smartphone. Camera © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma The Redmi 4 has a 13 MP rear camera sensor with phase auto detection auto-focus. To be honest, we did not expect the smartphone to take good pictures, simply due to the fact it is a budget smartphone and companies tend to sacrifice quality in this department. However, we were astonished to see how the Redmi 4 performed during our photography test. The pictures were above average in most cases but also took some amazing shots if we played around with the manual mode. Here are few sample photos for your reference: © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma You can see from these images that the smartphone can take good pictures in well-lit environments and performs well with dynamic range. However, the camera would sacrifice details and wash out colours in low-light settings. The Redmi 4’s camera is certainly an improvement from its predecessors and we hope the company can figure out a way to make low-light imaging a better experience. To be honest, the smartphone fares well for a budget smartphone, however, we feel that Xiaomi can dominate this segment simply by delivering a stupendous camera in their smartphones. Battery Life © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma Xiaomi is known to deliver smartphones that have incredible battery life and the Redmi 4 is no exception to that fact. The smartphone has excellent battery life and we can confidently say that is the marquee feature of the smartphone. The Redmi 4 is packed with a 4,100 mAH battery and it seems like Xiaomi has done an excellent job in this department. So much so that this the selling point of the smartphone. We used the Redmi 4 extensively which involved many phone calls, texting, gaming, 4G Internet browsing, Music streaming and a lot of photography. We managed to make the smartphone last for almost two days and when using the smartphone extensively with certain apps that drain the battery, the smartphone effectively lasted for 17 hours. The Final Say © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma If you are looking to spend less than INR 10,000 or want to buy a secondary smartphone, the Red 4 should be on the top of your list. The smartphone has a very elegant and refined design and performs well even when strained with daily tasks such as gaming and photography. The phone can last for days due to the massive battery capacity and is available for a price that cannot be matched by any other smartphone company.
  14. When people ask you what’s your favourite pastime, you often wonder if you can say ‘doing nothing’ without them judging you. Sleeping comes a close second. Plato said the ultimate aim of every human is happiness; so, if doing nothing gives you happiness, why not take it?! Our mothers and bosses might not agree with us but seems like South Korea does. There is an actual sport in the country where you have to do nothing, literally. © YouTube/AJ+ The Space Out Competition is an annual contest held every year in South Korea, and contestants are required to stare into space without dozing off. The one who manages to do ‘nothing’ for the longest time wins. You can’t use smartphones, or talk to fellow contestants. Basically, you just have to stare into space and daydream. We think we can win this one. This one-of-a-kind sport started in 2014 and is the brain child of visual artist WoopsYang. The aim of the sport was to slow down our owerworked brains and the artist wanted to show how we all are always exhausting our brain all the time. A phase of no thinking and working can be incredibly therapeutic. We agree. We have been practising ‘doing nothing’ as a means of relaxing for too long now. Its true though, isn’t it? every moment we are thinking something. Our brains are never quiet anytime. Work, love life, friends, social media – the brain is on an overdrive right now. It’s a good idea then to consciously give it a break. What do you think? As they say: “Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.”
  15. Felix Hernandez is giving trick photography a new layer of cool. He earlier made news when he had to photograph a $160K-worth Audi R8, but instead he used a $40 miniature toy car. Following the same thing for his latest project with Audi Middle East, Hernandez used a $32 miniature toy car instead of the real $50,000 car. © Felix Hernandez For this photoshoot, he created a tiny version of a desert and roadway right in the middle of his studio. Even though he’s an expert of this kind of miniature photography, this project turned out to be quite challenging for him. © Felix Hernandez “Where I normally work with 1/18 scale models, for the Q2 launch I was commissioned to do a series of photographs using a 1/43 scale model,” says the photographer. “This was my first time doing this kind of photography with such a small model.” To create the perfect desert setting, he made sand dunes out of polvo fino (fine powder) mixed with water. © Felix Hernandez Felix also used foam core, LEDs, and sand paper to build an indoor roadway. © Felix Hernandez It’s actually almost impossible to tell that it’s fake and these stunning pictures will probably fool everyone. But, Hernandez did fly to Dubai with fellow photographer Adrian Sommeling, take a shot of the Q2 in front of an iconic Middle Eastern cityscape. © Felix Hernandez
  16. You might have a longer and varied list of movies stacked in your ‘must watch’ section as compared to your friends’ or parents’, but no matter how different those lists are, there are certain movies that despite being old are one of our all time favourites. These cult movies are the ones that are binge-watched by everyone across all age groups. One such movie is ‘The Matrix’, the 1999 sci-fi masterpiece which gets equal love from both the 90s kids as well as the present generation even to this day. Well, call it good news or a bad news but ‘The Matrix’ is getting a reboot after almost 18 years. Let’s face it, there are some films that should be left untouched for good, but it seems that Hollywood has run out of ideas and scraping the iconic evergreen movies seems to be the next best option. © Warner Bros. Warner Bros. is said to be in the early stages of development of the movie and if the rumours are to be believed then Michael B. Jordan of ‘Friday Night Lights’ fame might play the lead and Zak Penn will write the screenplay. Now, while we are excited about this remake, somewhere deep down in our hearts we are worried that this idea does not turn into a disaster. What’s more, we might not see the charismatic avatar of Keanu Reeves or the Wachowski siblings who wrote and directed the original movie as well as the two sequels. The only thing we were looking forward to was watching Reeves and the Wachowskis recreate that magic on screen, but it seems that it’s going to be a far-fetched dream for us and we’ll have to settle for the movie without them. Clearly, the Internet isn’t happy with this news and has been raging and ranting on Twitter for obvious reasons. ah enjoying a coffee and listening to the club music from the rave scene in the matrix reloaded. time to take a big sip and check the news — leon (@leyawn) 15 March 2017 dont let Trump's taxes distract u from the fact that they really out here tryna reboot The Matrix — ?️ (@AiiGod) 15 March 2017 I realize complaining about a Matrix reboot is serious 'old man shouting at cloud' territory but that cloud is awful and get off my lawn — Space Jerk Jessica (@heyitsliore) 15 March 2017 Sees 'The Matrix' trending. 18. It’s no news that China is massively developing. From war tech to space tech and everything in between, China wants to take control of everything. Speaking of space tech, China is all set to install an altitude gravitational wave telescope in Tibet, in close proximity to the actual line of control. The telescope will detect even the faintest of echoes from the outer space which will further help in entangling the big bang theory. YouTube Code named Ngari Number 1, the giant will be placed 30 km south of Shiquanhe Town in Ngari Prefecture. The project is being led by the Chinese Academy Of Sciences. It is located 5250 meters above the sea level and will be collecting almost absolutely perfect data. Also, it is just the first one in the series of telescopes that China will be installing in the coming year. As far as the Ngari 1 is concerned, it will be functional by 2021. YouTube Now we all know China and how treacherous it can be. Who knows what they will be snooping on from these giant telescopes? We hope the Indian Government and the Indian Armed Forces keep a hawk’s eye on this.
  19. Last Sunday, the Aeromexico flight that was flying from Mexico City to Toronto had a very real Samuel L. Jackson moment when a deadly snake was found on the plane. Yes, there was a goddamn snake on the goddamn plane! Out of nowhere, a huge snake fell to the floor from the overhead compartment and wreaked havoc on the flight with passengers running scared. Believed to be a venomous green viper, the snake’s presence is yet to be figured out by the authorities. But whoever said movies don’t happen in real life clearly did not see Snakes on A Plane and did not fly the Aeromexico flight last Sunday! Samuel L Jackson shoulda been there though!
  20. Marijuana is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and there are tons of weird marijuana based products in the market already. The newest thing to hit stores is marijuana infused wine. Yes, you read that right! Weed is obviously not legal everywhere and the mixing of legal marijuana with alcohol or other drugs is usually prohibited, but California is an exception to this law and therefore winemakers there are working around a grey area. A photo posted by Mary Jane Wines® (@maryjanewines) on Sep 6, 2016 at 9:22am PDT With the medical use of marijuana being legal in California, companies are always venturing into and capitalizing on new and innovative products. Even though pot wine can be traced back to the days of ancient China, it has become a hot new thing recently. A photo posted by Mary Jane Wines® (@maryjanewines) on Sep 11, 2016 at 8:26am PDT Working around the law, the manufacturers of these products pose as completely legit businesses. Social media has played a major role in the success of these cannabis based companies and they develop a huge dedicated following online for such products. With the benefits of marijuana actually being proven through serious scientific studies, it may be ‘high’ time for India to legalize the medical use of weed in the country.
