  1. JATI UMRA: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif called on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday and discussed the current political situation of the country. In the meeting here, both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders discussed the contemporary situation of ongoing politics among other matters. In a statement, CM Punjab Shehbaz said that the faces of those levelling baseless allegations have been exposed. ?Niazi is the captain of liars,? remarked Shehbaz Sharif. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has displayed worst kind of performance in the province, said the CM Punjab. He further said that any sane person will not give a vote to those doing negative politics in the next elections. On February 22, sources said senior party leaders at a high-level PML-N meeting held at Punjab House recommended to make Shehbaz the president as he is a non-controversial and influential person. Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz is likely to be elected the president of PML-N after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court. The apex court of Pakistan had announced its verdict on petitions challenging the Elections Act 2017, ruling that a person disqualified under Article 62 and 63 cannot serve as the head of a political party. The decision by the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar is considered another blow to the ruling PML-N as Nawaz Sharif will no longer remain the party?s president. As a result of the verdict, all decisions taken by Nawaz Sharif as PML-N?s president stand null and void.

Abbasi was accompanied by Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari, his adviser on finance, revenue, and economic affairs Miftah Ismail, and Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb. 'Balochistan CM issue a disservice to democracy' On January 16, Nawaz Sharif while speaking to media outside accountability remarked: "the Balochistan political issue needs to be taken seriously. "This is a sick joke with the people," said the Pakistan Muslim League-N president, adding that he has summoned a meeting with the party's Baloch leadership on Thursday to find out why this happened. The PML-N chief wondered how a person with 500 votes became the chief minister, adding that "this is a disservice to democracy, Pakistan and its people". PM, Shehbaz meet Nawaz On January 15, the PM had arrived in Lahore after which he called on former premier and Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif. Following his arrival, the premier departed for Jati Umra, Nawaz Sharif's residence, along with Shehbaz on a helicopter. Sources said the meeting saw discussions on the country's political situation, party affairs and strategy for the upcoming elections, among other issues. Sources said that later, Federal Railways Minister Saad Rafique joined the meeting, where the party leaders also discussed their plan to deal with the joint opposition protest starting on Wednesday.

Photo: Geo News LAHORE: PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said that the only danger to the country is from Jati Umra ? the residence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. ?They do not care about Pakistan, they only care about Jati Umra," Zardari said while addressing a joint opposition protest rally to seek justice for the Model Town tragedy in Lahore. He claimed that only the PPP cares about Pakistan, its soil, and the people of its soil. "They [Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz leaders] know that they can be disqualified anytime I wish to do so, but I just think for [the betterment] of Pakistan,? said Zardari. The PPP co-chairman also thanked the attendees for showing solidarity with the Model Town incident victims and promised to get justice for the families of the deceased. Video: Geo News "My brothers and sisters, I thank you for coming to this protest here. We will get justice for Model Town victims, and Zainab." He stressed, during the address, that Pakistan has a long journey ahead. "Humans do not have a journey, nations do. We eat the crops grown on this soil, so our allegiance is with this country." The former president also lashed out at military dictators taking over the country and denounced martial law administrator Zia-ul-Haq's decisions of the past. "Dictators do not build countries, they only destroy them. The problems that we have today are gifts from Zia-ul-Haq." Protest to seek justice for Model Town tragedy The protest is being held against the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) government ? to seek justice for victims of the Model Town tragedy. The Model Town incident on June 17, 2014, had resulted in deaths of 14 people and injured around 100 during an 'anti-encroachment operation' by the Punjab Police outside Idara Minhajul Quran, the PAT's head office. PAT chief Tahirul Qadri reached the rally venue from his Model Town residence. He was joined on stage by senior PPP leaders including Khursheed Shah, Aitzaz Ahsan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Manzoor Wattoo among others. Supporters of opposition parties, including PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), are at the rally at Charing Cross, Mall Road. Qadri is expected to announce the joint opposition's future strategy ? which can range from a sit-in to a long march or a mix of both ? in the night during his concluding speech, according to sources. DIG Operations Haider Ashraf, told Geo News that over 6,000 police personnel, including 11 SPs and 24 DSPs, will be deployed. He informed that participants of the rally are being checked at three points, adding that alternative traffic arrangements have been made. Gridlock around Mall Road The arteries around the Mall Road remain congested in the wake of the demonstration. The flow of traffic remains affected on Shahrah-e-Fatima Jinnah, Kachehri Road, Hall Road, Cooper Road, Boharwala Chowk and Egerton Road. Similarly, nearby educational institutes, including the Punjab University, as well as surrounding markets and the Lahore Zoo are closed today.

Photo: File LAHORE: Punjab Cheif Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved on Wednesday a summary declaring Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif's Jati Umra residence as the 'CM Punjab Camp Office'. Earlier, the chief minister's 180-H Model Town residence was declared his camp office in 2011. But the residence's status was denotified in August this year after a written complaint by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's NA-120 candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid who accused Maryam Nawaz and federal ministers of using the official space for election campaigning. The Election Commission of Pakistan's rules bar any electioneering at government offices. Notification declaring Jati Umra the CM's Camp Office In a notification issued by the CM office and signed by Special Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab Syed Waseem Raza Jaffery, it was said that the ?The Competent Authority has desired that 180-H. Model Town Lahore may please be de-notified as ?Chief Minister?s Camp Office?, with immediate effect. With the re-designation of Nawaz's residence, situated on Raiwind Road, Lahore, official services will be provided there at the state's expense, according to sources. At present, the former prime minister resides at his Jati Umra residence when in Lahore and holds party meetings which are attended by senior government officials, including the prime minister and members of the cabinet.
  6. LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with his brother and senior party leader Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday at the former?s residence in Jati Umra. The two discussed the country?s political situation and deliberated over ways to strengthen mass contact campaign in a two-hour long meeting. LAHORE: A team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore officials on Friday arrived at the residence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umrah with bailable arrest warrants for his children and son-in-law, sources confided to Geo News. The accountability court, hearing corruption cases against the Sharif family, had on Tuesday issued bailable arrest warrants for Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam, sons Hussain and Hasan, and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar to ensure their presence. They had also been directed to submit surety bonds worth Rs1 million each. Bailable arrest warrants issued for Nawaz's children, son-in-law The accountability court has summoned the Sharif children on October 2 and directed them to submit sureties worth Rs1 million each Nawaz Sharif's personal secretary, Qamar Zaman, received the warrants from the six-member team led by a deputy director, which acted on the orders of the accountability court. Judge Mohammad Bashir of the accountability court had also ordered the Sharif children to appear before the court on October 2, the next date of hearing. At present, Hasan, Hussain and Maryam Nawaz are in London tending to their mother, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who is undergoing treatment for lymphoma. Safdar is also in London. Earlier on Friday, NAB sent the warrants to Pakistan HC in London. Nawaz delays visit to London The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader has delayed his plans to visit London after it was reported that his wife?s health has improved. Kulsoom Nawaz hospitalised again; undergoing checkup Former PM Nawaz Sharif's wife is in London undergoing treatment for lymphoma Nawaz was expected to leave for London on Thursday after it emerged that his wife was re-admitted to the hospital upon worsening of her condition, Geo News had reported. The medical condition of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz had deteriorated on Tuesday evening after which she was readmitted to the hospital. Sources informed that Kulsoom was admitted to the emergency unit of Princess Grace Hospital in London. Nawaz returned to Pakistan on September 25 and appeared before the accountability court a day after. The court will indict the ousted prime minister on October 2.

The by-election will be held on September 17. Earlier today, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued an order for the deployment of army troops at the polling stations in the upcoming by-election.
