  1. LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed displeasure over failure of police in arresting the suspect of brutal rape-murder of eight-year-old Zainab in Kasur. Presiding over a meeting of provincial cabinet's Committee on Law and Order, the Punjab CM said that he was under extreme agony and stress due to this case and only wanted the arrest of the suspect. The meeting was briefed on the brutal rape and murder case by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Addressing the participants, the chief minister said that facts should be brought before the public after the arrest of the suspect so that the victim's family could get justice. He said the killer should not escape justice and get exemplary punishment. Shehbaz further said that all requirements of justice would be fulfilled pertaining to the death of two persons in the firing incidents during violent protests in the city. The chief minister directed the IGP to daily visit Kasur to review progress on both cases and that he could use helicopter of the chief minister for this purpose.

Police said on Friday that DNA tests results have confirmed that the same culprit carried out the horrific rapes and murders of eight children in Kasur, including seven-year-old Zainab Amin. "One thing that is very clear [from DNA tests] is that in seven previous cases, and this is the eighth case, in which the same culprit carried out these horrific crimes," Inspector-General of Punjab police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan told Geo News. He said that police has not been able to match that DNA to any of the suspects interrogated so far. "We investigated almost 227 people, of which we narrowed down 67 suspects and carried out their DNA tests. But none of these results match those of the culprit," said the provincial police chief. "The IGP, law minister, and home secretary should be suspended with immediate effect," he said, adding that the chief minister should also be summoned and suspended. Chairman of PPP Central Punjab Qamar Zaman Kaira also expressed deep regret over the rape and murder and the killing of two protestors on Wednesday. Police also failed to stop the protesters from ransacking the local government hospital. "The IGP, law minister, and home secretary should be suspended with immediate effect," he said, adding that the chief minister should also be summoned and suspended. "We know that a powerful individual...powerful groups are behind each such incident. It is a network of criminals," the PAT chief said. He maintained that making low-ranking police officers OSD (officer on special duty) will make no difference. "Make Shehbaz and Sanaullah OSD, catch their MNAs and MPAs and then you'll find out the criminal network [operating] under them," said Qadri. Roy said that stopping children from going out will not be justifiable and people need to teach their children and save from mishaps.

But since the [suspect] was caught on tape then surely, in today?s age of technology the picture could have been optimised, Ameen said, adding that his ?daughter could have been rescued alive.? According to reports, her body was found at an abandoned house near her residence in Ali Park. The victim's family and neighbours had protested by blocking Lahore Road demanding justice.
