  1. An Emirates airline flight attendant has died after she fell from the emergency door of a parked airplane in Uganda's Entebbe airport, BBC reported. According to reports, the hostess of the Dubai-based airline was preparing the flight for boarding when the incident happened. A spokesperson said, the woman, whose nationality has not been revealed, was rushed to Kisubi hospital 16 kilometres away but died soon after. Photo: Sources Uganda's aviation authorities said they have launched an investigation into the incident. The flight attendant "appeared to have opened the emergency door" and unfortunately "fell off an aircraft that had safely landed and parked", a statement said. Kisubi hospital's spokesperson Edward Zabonna told the BBC that the crew member had injuries "all over her face and knees". Zabonna said that she had been "unconscious but alive" when she arrived at the hospital on Wednesday evening but died soon after. "A member of our cabin crew unfortunately fell from an open door while preparing the aircraft for boarding,? AFP quoted a statement from Emirates Airline as saying. The airline promised its "full cooperation" with the investigation.
  2. Nikolas Cruz. Picture released by the office of Broward's sheriff PARKLAND: A troubled teenager accused of murdering 17 people at his former high school in Florida had white supremacist ties, it emerged Thursday, as the FBI admitted it received a tip-off about the 19-year-old gunman, yet failed to stop him. As Americans reeled from the country?s worst school massacre since the horror at Sandy Hook six years ago, President Donald Trump suggested the root cause of the violence was a crisis of mental health ? and defied calls to address gun control. Terrified students hid in closets and under desks on Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, texting for help as the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, stalked the school with a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle. Charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, Cruz appeared Thursday afternoon before a judge who ordered him held without bond. In a sombre televised address to the nation in response to the 18th school shooting so far this year, Trump announced plans to travel to Florida to meet the shocked community, located north of Miami. He vowed to make mental health a priority ? after tweeting about the "many signs" that the shooter was "mentally disturbed" ? but avoided any talk of gun curbs to stem the bloodshed. "My fellow Americans, today I speak to a nation in grief," said Trump, calling on his fellow citizens to "come together as one nation" and "answer hate with love, answer cruelty with kindness." Earlier in the day, Trump had asserted that "neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!" But US authorities themselves were under scrutiny after the FBI confirmed it was alerted last September to a message posted on YouTube, in which a user named Nikolas Cruz vowed: "I?m going to be a professional school shooter." In a statement, the FBI said it had carried out "database reviews and other checks" but was unable to identify the person who made the post. ?Something was off? Expelled from school for disciplinary reasons, Cruz was known to have firearms at home ? and had reportedly been identified as a potential threat to his classmates. "I met him last year, he was in my class at the beginning of the year and when I first met him, I knew that something was off about him and he was kind of weird," Manolo Alvarez, 17, told AFP. Troubling new details emerged Thursday about Cruz?s past, as the Anti-Defamation League reported he was a member of a white supremacist group and had taken part in military-style training exercises. Jordan Jereb, believed to lead the shadowy Republic of Florida (ROF), told the rights group that his organization had not supported Cruz?s attack. "Nobody I know told him to do that, he just freaked out," Jereb said in a separate interview with The Daily Beast, adding that Cruz "seemed like just a normal, disenfranchised, young white man." "I don?t know precisely what he believes," he said. "I know he knew full well he was joining a white separatist paramilitary proto-fascist organization." Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel previously said authorities were dissecting Cruz?s social media history, and that "some of the things... are very, very disturbing." He also suggested the authorities were powerless to stop such crimes. "If a person is predisposed to commit such a horrific event by going to a school and shooting people ... there?s not anybody or not a lot law enforcement can do about it," Israel said. ?Failing our kids? Fifteen people were killed at the high school, and two later died in hospital. One of those killed was Aaron Feis, a well-loved football coach in Parkland, a city of about 30,000 people. Two of the wounded remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while six others were on the way to a full recovery, officials told a news conference. The school shootings are part of a broader epidemic of gun violence in a country that loses 33,000 people to gun-related deaths each year, two-thirds of them suicides. While the latest mass shooting reignited questions about America?s gun laws, Trump ? the first president to have addressed the powerful National Rifle Association gun lobby ? staunchly opposes any additional gun controls. Opponents of gun curbs have sought to steer public debate onto the motives ? and mental health ? of people using the weapons. Former Democratic President Barack Obama issued a new appeal for action Thursday, insisting "we are not powerless." "Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we?re doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change," he tweeted. But many have given up hope of meaningful reform in a majority-led Republican Congress where Obama failed to enact gun curbs amid partisan rancour. Since January 2013, there have been at least 291 school shootings across the country ? an average of one a week, according to the non-profit group Everytown for Gun Safety. "It is pretty clear that we?re failing our kids here," said Melissa Falkowski, a teacher who squeezed 19 students into a closet at the high school to shield them from harm.

  4. Viewing and editing a member is probably one of the most frequently used features of the AdminCP. With the design unchanged for many years, and the tabbed interface starting to grow unwieldy, it was due for some love. We have not only dramatically improved the design but added many new features. New AdminCP Member Page Let's look at some of the improvements: Easy Toggle between Member and Customer View If you have Commerce installed, you can now toggle between "Member View" (which shows the screen above) and "Customer View" (which shows the current customer page in Commerce with the user's purchases, invoices, etc.). This makes it much easier to view all of a member's information in one place. If you don't have Commerce installed, the top tab bar will not show. Basic Information The pane in the top-left shows the member's basic information like name, email address and photos. You can now reposition a member's cover photo and crop the profile photo (functions previously not available in the AdminCP). To change the display name or email address, you just click and hold on the information and a textbox appears. The buttons below allow you to merge, delete, sign in as, and edit the preferences or password for the member. Basic Member Information Pane In addition, this pane lists any social networks the user is logged in with. It shows you the member's profile photo and profile name on that network (for example in this screenshot, it is showing my Facebook profile's photo and name) and for many networks you can click on this to be taken directly to their Facebook/Twitter/etc profile. You can also edit the syncing options for the method and unlink the accounts, features which weren't available previously. If you have Commerce installed, there is also an indicator if the user has an active subscription. A member with an active subscription Alerts If a member is validating, banned, flagged as a spammer, or locked, a large banner will display drawing your attention to this. For validating and banned, it will explain exactly what the status is (for example, if they haven't responded to the validation email yet versus they are awaiting admin approval, or if they have been banned manually versus are in a group without permission to access anything). A member that has been locked Other possible alerts Locations & Devices This pane shows you, on a map, all of the locations the user has been when using the community (based on their IP address) as well as the IP address they used to register and most recently. IP Address Locations While the devices tab shows the most recently used devices. Recently Used Devices Content Statistics Right in the middle of the profile you can see some statistics about the member's activity. This includes: A sparkline graph of their recent content. Their content count and reputation count (with tools to manually change or rebuild). A breakdown of the amount of content they have made across all applications. A visual indication of how much of their messenger and attachment storage they have used. If Gallery and Downloads are installed, the existing statistics overview provided by these apps are also available here. Content Statistics Warnings & Restrictions This block shows recent warnings on the account, and also highlights if any restrictions (i.e. content moderation, restricted from posting, or application-level restrictions) are being applied, which previously was difficult to see at a glance. Warnings & Restrictions Block for an account which has content moderation in effect Account Activity On the right is a pane which shows all of the latest account activity. While this was available in previous versions (called "Member History") we have made some significant improvements: The number of things that get logged has been significantly expanded. We now log photo changes, group changes, when a new device is used to login, if an account is locked (by failed logins or failed two factor authentication attempts) or unlocked, password/email/display name changes, when a user links or unlinks a social network login method, initial registration and validation, merges, being flagged/unflagged as a spammer, receiving/acknowledging/revoking a warning, restrictions being applied, two factor authentication being enabled/disabled/changed, an OAuth token being issued if Invision Community is being used as an OAuth Server, enabling/disabling receiving bulk mails, and accepting the privacy policy / terms and conditions, as well as all of the Commerce-related information that is already logged. Much more information is now shown such as who made the change (i.e. an admin, the user themselves, or if it was changed by the REST API or syncing with a social network) and how the change was made (for example, for a password change - if the user used the "Forgot Password" tool or changed it in their Account Settings) and what the data was before and after. This includes being aware of if the change was made by an admin after using the "Sign in as User" tool. You can now filter what information you are seeing to quickly find what you are looking for. Recent Account Activity Extensibility The new profile has been designed with extensibility in mind. Third party developers can easily add new blocks our even entire new tabs. Any apps/plugins which are currently adding a tab to the "Edit Member" form will retain backwards compatibility with their tab continuing to appear when clicking the "Edit Preferences" button in the basic account information pane.

  6. ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Friday that if a member curses the parliament, then it means that he is cursing himself. Speaking on Geo News programme, Abbasi said a member of the parliament should speak after due deliberation. "Those who indulged in cursing [the parliament] should apologise, or else they will get an answer in the election." The comments by the prime minister come days after an 'anti-government' rally in Lahore, at which Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had cursed the Parliament for allowing Nawaz Sharif's re-election as the party head after his disqualification. "I give Laanat (curse) the parliament that made a criminal the president of a party," he said, in an apparent reference to ousted premier Nawaz Sharif being elected the PML-N president. Imran's remarks followed the repeated cursing of the parliament from Rasheed, who also announced his resignation from the assembly. Qadri's placement on ECL The prime minister denied placement of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri's name on the Exit Control List (ECL). "According to my knowledge, Tahirul Qadri has Canadian citizenship," he said, adding that the PAT chief was not alone on the stage of Lahore rally, but leadership of major political parties was also accompanied him. Abbasi said, "Controversial statements were also made regarding the parliament from the stage, of which the House took notice." He said whatever Tahirul Qadri is doing is being seen; he is on the roads. "I had this thing in my mind whether a foreign citizen can issue anti-government statements," the premier said, adding they would take notice of the PAT's chief's statement regarding toppling the government.
  7. A US Marine watches Afghan commandos during a combat training exercise last year. Photo: AFP files WASHINGTON: A member of the US military was killed and four others wounded during a New Year´s Day combat operation in Afghanistan, officials said Tuesday. According to the NATO mission in Kabul, the "combat engagement" occurred in Achin, in the restive Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. "Two wounded service members are being treated at a nearby medical treatment facility and are in stable condition. The other service members have returned to duty," NATO said in a statement. Officials did not disclose which branch of the military the troops were from, and no other information was immediately available. While Afghan security forces are conducting most of the fighting against the Taliban and other insurgent groups, US troops operate alongside them in a training capacity and are frequently on the front lines. The United States hopes 2018 will see the Afghans finally seize the momentum against the Taliban after years of stalemate. 2017 was a particularly deadly year for Afghans, with the number of civilian casualties on track to be one of the highest on record since an insurgency backed by US air power toppled the Taliban in 2001. More than 8,000 civilians were killed or wounded in conflict-related violence in the first nine months of last year, according to data compiled by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.

Sattar requested establishment to bring us to the table: Mustafa Kamal Mustafa Kamal tells Farooq Sattar he is ready for talks for the sake of lasting peace in Karachi PSP and MQM had come into limelight last month after they announced to regroup under 'one name, one election symbol.' However, just a day after the announcement, cracks developed in the relations between the two parties. Dismayed at the response over the alliance, Sattar lashed out at PSP chair and announced to quit politic. However, he reversed the decision at the behest of his mother. Sattar kept reiterating that the partnership between two parties is an alliance, however PSP leaders said that it was a merger. Reacting to Sattar's statement, Kamal remarked that he met with Sattar because the latter had requested the establishment to bring the two to the table. Kamal added that Sattar has been giving the impression that whatever decisions PSP takes is at the behest of the establishment. ?Sattar has been meeting us through the establishment since eight months,? he said, saying that the developments are not just 48 hours-long. 11. Whether it's sports icons, actors or politicians; social media has lately become a platform for the celebrities to take pot-shots and disclose their ordeals with unruly individuals in daily life. From the lunatic cab driver to the harrowing stalker, there have been numerous such episodes highlighted on various social media portals. But, none of them rank above the absolutely distressing run-ins of celebrities with airline staff. From Sachin Tendulkar to Harbhajan Singh, Indian sportspersons - in particular - are no strangers to their troubles while travelling in the air. And, on 4 November, it was the turn of Indian badminton sensation PV Sindhu. In a series of tweets, the 22-year-old named and shamed the airline ground staff, saying that the IndiGo employee had behaved "badly and rudely" with her. When he was approached by an air hostess and told to behave properly, he was rude with her as well, Sindhu wrote in a direct message to IndiGo. Sorry to say ..i had a very bad experienceð¤when i was flying by 6E 608 flight to bombay on 4th nov the ground staff by name Mr ajeetesh(1/3) — Pvsindhu (@Pvsindhu1) 4 November 2017 "Sorry to say ..i had a very bad experience. when i was flying by 6E 608 flight to bombay on 4th nov the ground staff by name Mr ajeetesh(1/3)," Sindhu tweeted on Saturday. @IndiGo6E pic.twitter.com/NxjRUlv2jI — Pvsindhu (@Pvsindhu1) 4 November 2017 Adding to her rant, Sindhu went on to share a screenshot detailing her horrific experience. "Ground staff (skipper) Mr ajeetesh behaved very badly and rudely with me. When the air hostess Ms Ashima tried to advise him to behave properly with the passenger (me) but to my surprise he behaved very rudely with her. If these types of people work for a reputed (sic) airline like indigo they will spoil their reputation @IndiGo6E," she posted on Twitter. But, while Sindhu was sharing her ordeal, IndiGo airlines defended their employee, claiming that the Indian badminton star was carrying an oversized baggage which wasn't fitting into an overhead bin. "Ms PV Sindhu boarded flight 6E 608 Hyderabad-Mumbai...carrying oversized baggage which was not fitting into the overhead bin. Ms Sindhu was informed that it will be moved to cargo hold of the aircraft. This is the same policy we follow for all customers. Oversized baggage inside the cabin inconveniences other customers and can also be a safety hazard if it cannot be secured properly in the cabin," IndiGo spokesman Ajay Jasra was quoted as saying by the TOI. "During the entire conversation, the member of the IndiGo ground operations remained calm. After several requests to her manager, they finally consented to the removal of the bag from the cabin. We then placed the over-sized baggage in the cargo hold and was handed over to Ms Sindhu on arrival. We are extremely proud of Ms Sindhu's sporting achievements and are grateful for the laurels she has won for our country. However, safety of our operations is paramount to IndiGo. We hope that Ms Sindhu will appreciate that our colleague was only carrying out his duty in the best interest of a safe and reliable operation," Jasra added. Amid all the hullabaloo, folks on Twitter also urged Sindhu not to name the airplane staff as it might ruin his career. 13. ISTANBUL: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday sought enhanced trade and economic partnerships with D-8 member states, as he represented Pakistan at the ninth D-8 summit being held in Istanbul from October 19 to 21. ?Connectivity-led growth is a good example of South-South cooperation. We seek similar partnerships with D-8 member states ? through road and rail routes, where possible, but also through stronger air and sea connections,? PM Abbasi said while addressing the opening session of the summit. Pakistan, which remained the Chairman of this organisation of eight developing nations since 2012, also handed over the Chair to Turkey at the Summit?s opening session. The 9th D-8 summit, with the theme ?Expanding Opportunities through Cooperation?, was attended by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, Iran?s first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri and the vice president of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla. Prime Minister Abbasi said as Pakistan celebrated 70 years of its independence, it was confronted with many challenges over the last decade. ?We faced unrelenting terrorism emanating from instability in our neighbourhood and the environment in the region and beyond.? He, however, stressed that as a result of a comprehensive strategy and unwavering resolve, Pakistan had successfully turned the tide. ?Improved security has led to economic recovery. Pakistan?s economy has recorded a significant revival in the past four years. Over this time, we have focused on upgrading our communications and energy infrastructure, and enhancing regional connectivity,? he added. The Prime Minister said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would further put the economy on an upward trajectory of robust growth. ?We are also working on energy connectivity projects. Pakistan?s integration into the Eurasian Belt and Road network will provide a firm foundation for Pakistan?s rapid economic development.? He noted that the summit?s theme was in complete harmony with the post-2017 development agenda, visualising sustainable development as one of the core elements of people-centric development. ?Indeed, shared and joint prosperity is the only form of secure and sustainable prosperity. Inclusion based on collaboration ensures that there are no losers in the development effort ? all are winners.? The Prime Minister said Pakistan assumed the Chair of D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation in November 2012 at the eighth summit in Islamabad, which adopted two landmark documents: the D-8 Charter and the Global Vision. These documents have provided the essential basis for our joint endeavours, he added. Another significant milestone achieved during this period was the Observer Status for D-8 at the United Nations, he said, adding that this status enabled the organisation to closely interact with various UN agencies and affiliated institutions for cooperative arrangements in priority areas for Pakistan. PM Abbasi said that 20 years ago, a shared vision motivated the leaders of the member states to establish this organisation to promote cooperation in the key areas of agriculture, industry, SMEs, trade, transportation, energy and tourism. ?However, the progress achieved so far falls short of our expectations, necessitating measures to accelerate momentum for stronger partnership,? he added. The premier pointed towards the stagnation of intra D-8 trade, after an initial increase, adding that the apprehension is that the target of US $500 billion in 2018, envisaged in the 2008 Kuala Lumpur Summit Roadmap, might remain elusive. ?While it is imperative for the governments of member countries to facilitate trade and investment by adopting the necessary legal framework for investment protection and creating an enabling environment for business in their respective countries, it is the private sector that can make the best use of emerging opportunities for trade and joint ventures. It is, therefore, of utmost importance that we also actively promote entrepreneurship in our countries,? he said. PM Abbasi handed over to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Chair of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation. ?Mr. President, I congratulate you on assuming the Chair of the D-8 Summit. I am confident that your wisdom, sagacity, dynamism and firm commitment will bring new vigour to the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation,? he said. The Prime Minster also said he and his delegation were deeply touched by the warm welcome and hospitality they received ever since their arrival. Turkish President Erdogan also addressed the opening session of the Summit and spoke on various challenges faced by the Muslim world in general and the member states in particular, in different spheres of life including economic development.

Speaking to a news channel, Major General Saeed said that the students affiliated with Asarul Shariah did not come from any one specific university. He said well-educated students from different academic institutes were members of the group, adding, as many as three members of the group have Masters degree in Applied Physics. Maj Gen Saeed reiterated that no security institution including Sindh Rangers have demanded student records from Karachi University. Major General Saeed said that as an intensive operation is underway against the militant group the paramilitary cannot share further information about the group. Ansarul Shariah Pakistan chief was in contact with Al-Qaeda member: sources Dr Hashmi informed that due to Abdullah Baloch?s proximity with the banned oraganisations, Ansarul-Shariah contacted him. He said that as many as seven members of the group have been arrested and according to the initial investigation the militant group was limited only to Karachi. The paramilitary chief informed that Ansarul Shariah were focused on attacking police personnel and the authorities have identified the target-killers of the group. The paramilitary chief urged parents to keep an eye on the activities of their children as parents of the two group members had no idea of what activities their son was involved in. He added that the teachers must take into account why students are being attracted towards radical ideas. Initially, it did operate under Daesh's umbrella, however, differences led to the parting of the ways later. The group comprises of militants from Al Qaeda Subcontinent, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Daesh, sources said.

  19. German Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel presides the weekly cabinet meeting at the Chancellery in Berlin, Germany, August 2, 2017. REUTERS/Hannibal Hanschke/Files BERLIN: Turkey will never be a member of the European Union as long as it is governed by Tayyip Erdogan, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said on Thursday, accusing him of failing to take accession talks with the bloc seriously. His remarks in an interview with mass-selling newspaper Bild are likely to further inflame relations between the two NATO allies after Erdogan urged German Turks to boycott Germany's main parties in next month's general election. "It is clear that in this state, Turkey will never become a member of the EU," Gabriel said. "It's not because we don't want them but because the Turkish government and Erdogan are moving fast away from everything that Europe stands for," he added. EU leaders have been critical of Erdogan's crackdown on opponents before and after a failed military coup against him in July last year. Accession talks have ground to a virtual halt though Turkey remains a candidate for membership. Turkey's Western allies fear that sweeping new powers Erdogan won in a tightly fought referendum in April are pushing Turkey away from democratic values. Erdogan says both the crackdown and the increased presidential powers are needed to help tackle serious challenges to Turkey's security both at home and beyond its borders. At a highpoint in tensions earlier this year, Erdogan angered Germany, home to 3 million Turks about half of whom can vote in the election on September 24, by accusing German authorities of Nazi-like behaviour. Relations between the two countries have also been strained by Turkey's arrest of a Turkish-German journalist and a German human rights activist.

  21. "The Election Commission of Pakistan hereby de-notifies Mohammad Nawaz Sharif as Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency No. NA-120 Lahore-III with immediate effect," read the ECP notification. 25. Expected to stand and deliver together as a unit, the Indian cricket team dealt with a shocking blow after reports of an alleged rift between captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble surfaced, just days before their opening match against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy. Despite a successful year-long association in the Indian team, the media reports suggest that Kohli and Kumble have found it hard to draw general consensus for the way forward. Apart from Kohli, some of the other Team India players have also expressed their discomfort with Kumble to the BCCI. And, there seems to be no stopping to the ongoing saga. © BCCL “The problem between Kumble and Kohli isn’t recent but has apparently been festering on for a while. The early signs were seen at the start of the England series in Rajkot in November last year. Not just Virat, we have been told that a few players are also not too happy with Kumble’s style of functioning. When the captain especially isn’t happy, then there is little that we or anybody from outside can do,” a report in the Indian Express quoted a BCCI official as saying. With the chances of Kumble's contract extension as Team India coach in serious jeopardy, the same report quoted an unnamed member of BCCI's Committee of Administrators (COA) targeting the Indian captain for his boorish attitude. “Kohli is behaving like a spoilt child. The committee should be fair. Kumble has had great results and that should be a big factor when it comes to renewing his contract,” he told the Indian Express. © BCCL It was earlier indicated that Kumble and Kohli were not on a same page over the team selection for the third India versus Australia Test in Ranchi. While Kumble wanted to pick Kuldeep Yadav, Kohli was not in favour of the same. The young left-arm chinaman bowler made his debut in Dharamsala Test as Ajinkya Rahane led the team in absence of injured Kohli. “This may or may not be the reason. But we believe the people in the corridors of power have been told that Kumble is overbearing and doesn’t give freedom to the players. It’s sad that aspersions are cast on a legend of Indian cricket,” a BCCI official had earlier told The Hindu. On the other hand, a report in DNA also claimed that Kumble leaked private WhatsApp conversations with the Indian cricketers to his friends in the media. © BCCL "We've been told that there is a WhatsApp group created by Kumble of his few trusted media friends and few confidential talks between him and senior players were leaked through that," an unnamed senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by DNA. With Kumble's one-year contract set to expire after the ICC Champions Trophy, the BCCI also already invited fresh applications for the Team India coaching role and, amid the recent dram, things aren't really looking good for the veteran leggie.
