  1. Jekesai NJIKIZANA Zimbabwe's first Miss Albino Sithembiso Mutukura (R) beat 12 other contestants-AFP HARARE: Oozing charm and confidence, 22-year-old Sithembiso Mutukura beat 12 other contestants in Zimbabwe´s first Miss Albinism beauty contest aimed at reducing stigma and increasing awareness about the condition. Friday´s "Beauty Beyond the Skin" pageant was held in a Harare nightclub, making Zimbabwe the second African country after Kenya to host such an event. Many African countries have a dark relationship with albinism -- a genetic disorder inherited from parents who both carry a faulty gene that prevents the skin from making melanin properly and thereby giving it colour. They are hunted down in some African countries by witch doctors for their body parts which are used in potions to bring good luck or riches. Some are even kidnapped and sold by relatives out to make a fast buck. Mutukura said she entered the pageant to raise awareness. "The people with disabilities are always looked down upon even in schools. I have gone through a lot but I want people living with albinism to be brave and persevere in life," the social work student at the University of Zimbabwe told AFP after winning the crown. "We must continue to advocate for our rights and I hope my win will empower the girl child. People with disabilities must not look down upon themselves." The contestants sashayed down the catwalk in gowns and traditional African robes and were asked an array of questions to decide the winner. Mutukura won a food hamper and $85 (70 euros) -- a fair bit of money in Zimbabwe. Pageant organiser Brenda Mudzimu said she was happy to finally host the event as it was postponed last year due to a lack of funds. Global pageant "The pageant aims to instil confidence in girls living with albinism in Zimbabwe as well as reduce the stigma," Mudzimu said. "People living with albinism are talented, beautiful and intelligent just like any other normal human being. My experience living with albinism was not easy.I learnt that in life living with albinism you have to persevere and survive in life." Mudzimu said she hoped to organise a global contest. "This will be an annual event which will later be advanced to Miss Albinism Africa and Miss Albinism World because we want to reach all corners of the world," she said. The southern African country has about 39,000 people living with albinism, she said. Tapuwa Muchemwa, a government representative who was the guest of honour, said Zimbabwean authorities were committed to uphold the rights of albinos. "We as government strongly advocate that people with albinism deserve their right to life and security and to be protected as well as the right not to be subjected to torture and ill treatment," Muchemwa said. Albinism groups say more than 90 percent of people with the condition in Africa die before they reach the age of 40. The rate of albinism in Africa is much higher than in other parts of the world.
  2. A member of the Taliban insurgent and other people in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, April 18, 2015. REUTERS/Stringer/Files TASHKENT: The Taliban are likely to miss an Afghan peace conference at which participants are set to call for direct talks between the militant group and the government of President Ashraf Ghani, the foreign ministry in Uzbekistan said on Monday. Representatives of the group have made no application to attend the March 26-27 meeting in the Uzbek capital Tashkent, suggesting they will not attend, a ministry statement said. Ghani is set to attend along with US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. Also set to attend are the foreign ministers of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkey and UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto. The Taliban urged Washington last month to begin talks to end almost 17 years of war in Afghanistan, which suggests they want to explore dialogue. The group ruled Afghanistan until 2001 when it was defeated by US-led troops in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and it is fighting to restore Islamic rule in the country. Ghani in February offered recognition of the Taliban as a legitimate political group as part of a proposed process he said could lead to talks. Conference participants will call for an urgent start of direct talks between the Kabul government and the Taliban, the press office of Uzbekistan?s foreign ministry said in a written reply to questions from Reuters. The United States last year stepped up its military assistance to Afghanistan, notably through a sharp increase in air strikes, with the aim of breaking a stalemate with the insurgents and forcing them to the negotiating table. While the US military says the strategy has hit the Taliban hard, they still control or contest much of the country. On Monday, Afghan forces battled to recapture a district centre in the western province of Farah, after Taliban fighters seized the town in an overnight attack.
  3. Abhinay Deol is back with a quirky comedy and boy it is every bit hilarious as we imagined. The teaser of Blackमà¥à¤² starring Irrfan Khan is out and you can't miss it for anything in this world. The movie brings Irrfan in a never seen before and captivating avatar. One look at the video and you can't take your eyes off the screen. This is the second time we will see Abhinay coming up with a dark comedy after 'Delhi Belly'. The trailer begins in the most enthralling way where you hear a voice saying, “Aree iss chaadi wale ko pakdo woh nangaa bhag raha hai.” Now ain't that a dialogue interesting enough to grab your attention? (c) T-Series The next shot you see is of Irrfan Khan in just shoes and boxers with a paper bag that reads 'Rosy Bra and Panty' on his face, running through the lanes with people following him. Next, you hear is Irrfan narrating why he is running like this and he reveals that he has done something historic. (c) T-Series Irrfan being an amazing actor, hooks you to the trailer and what's amazing is the fact that not even once you see his face. Imagine if just his voice can do such magic, what will happen when you get to see him in the trailer? (c) T-Series Blackमà¥à¤² somehow reminds you of some cult comedy films like 'Oye Lucky Lucky Oye' and 'Khosla Ka Ghosala' that has entertained us thoroughly in the past, though the storyline of this one indeed has a unique tale to present. Check out the teaser here: The film is hitting the screens on April 6, 2018, and we are totally excited for this one. Let us know what you think about the trailer.
  4. Joe Root during Australia v England tour, January 8, 2018/Getty Images SYDNEY: Joe Root on Tuesday pulled out of England´s Twenty20 tri-series against Australia and New Zealand, as Ben Stokes confirmed his return to international cricket would be delayed by a court appearance. Test captain Root, who has played in all five Ashes matches and the first three ODIs against Australia this month, will return to England before playing in the one-day international series against New Zealand in late February. Root said he did not like missing games but made a decision to "have a little break". His replacement has not yet been named. "I came into this tour wanting to play everything. I love playing for England and I don´t like missing games of cricket," the 27-year-old Yorkshire batsman said in a statement. "I had a long chat with (coach) Trevor Bayliss about things and there´s obviously a big summer ahead and a lot of cricket still to be played. "It´s going to be really important to make sure that I´m available for all of that." Stokes is due in court to face charges of affray on February 13, the same day England play New Zealand in the T20 series. The 26-year-old missed England´s Ashes series defeat in Australia after he was suspended from international duty by the England and Wales Cricket Board following his involvement in an incident outside a nightclub in September. Ben Stokes He was last week included in the squad to play the triangular T20 tournament. "As has been confirmed in the media a first hearing date at court has been set for 13th February," Stokes tweeted Tuesday. "In the circumstances, I have decided that it would not be right to join my teammates until after attending court on the 13th." The news came ahead of this year´s Indian Premier League auction set for January 27-28 in Bangalore, with both Root and Stokes lining up as among the top-ranking players the eight teams can bid for. Australian captain Steve Smith has been rested for the T20 games ahead of the crucial Test tour to South Africa, with David Warner stepping up to lead the team. The T20 tri-series takes place in Australia and New Zealand from February 3-21. England´s five-match ODI series against New Zealand runs from February 25 to March 10.

  6. Executive Chairman Sam Haskell, attends the 2018 Miss America Competition Press Conference at Boardwalk Hall Arena in Atlantic City, N.J., on September 10, 2017. Photo: AFP/file NEW YORK: The Miss America pageant suspended its CEO on Friday after dozens of former beauty queens demanded he step down over leaked internal emails that contained misogynistic, fat- and slut-shaming language. The decision was announced in the face of mounting pressure in the media as the United States continues to grapple with a sexual harassment firestorm upending powerful men from Hollywood, to entertainment and politics. "The Miss America Organization Board of Directors today voted to suspend Executive Chairman and CEO Sam Haskell," it said. "The board will be conducting an in-depth investigation into alleged inappropriate communications and the nature in which they were obtained." HuffPost published leaked emails on Thursday that included a vulgarity to refer to past winners, former winners being routinely maligned, and the shaming of one over her weight and *** life, with Haskell calling her "a piece of trash." The news site initially quoted the Miss America Organization as saying it was notified about the emails months ago and fired a telecast writer -- the "most egregious author of inappropriate comments." "The Board has full confidence in the Miss America Organization leadership team," HuffPost had quoted the organization as saying. But on Friday award-show producers Dick Clark Productions announced that it had severed ties with Miss America after being informed of the emails several months ago. "We were appalled by their unacceptable content and insisted, in the strongest possible terms, that the Miss America Organization board of directors conduct a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate action to address the situation," it said in a statement sent to AFP. "Shortly thereafter, we resigned our board positions and notified MAO that we were terminating our relationship with them," it added. Dozens of former Miss Americas, including a 87-year-old crowned in 1948 and a former Fox News host, signed an open letter demanding the resignations of the organisation´s CEO, president and board chair. "We stand firmly against harassment, bullying and shaming -- especially of women -- through the use of derogatory terms meant to belittle and demean," HuffPost quoted the letter as saying. "As Miss Americas, we strongly reject the mischaracterisations of us both collectively and individually. We also reject the ongoing efforts to divide our sisterhood and the attempts to pit us against one another." Signatories included Gretchen Carlson, who settled a sexual harassment lawsuit in 2016 against then Fox News boss Roger Ailes for a reported $20 million, which precipitated his departure from the network. Tammy Haddad -- a member of the Miss America Organization board whose resignation was also demanded in the open letter Friday -- has already stepped down, US media reported.
  7. Aamir Khan (left) and Manushi Chhillar (right) Manushi Chhillar ? the recently crowned Miss World has expressed her desire to work alongside Aamir Khan even though Bollywood is not in her immediate plans. Speaking to the media for the first time after winning the title, Manushi said she wanted to work with Aamir because of the challenging roles he gives. ?I think his movies have a message and connect to the society.? Manushi added that Priyanka Chopra also a former Miss World was her favourite Indian actress. Earlier this month, Miss India Manushi Chhillar won the prestigious title of Miss World 2017, bringing the crown back to India after 17 years. Manushi, a medical student from Haryana, elbowed aside competitors from 108 nations and was crowned at the Sanya City Arena in China PR by Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico's Stephanie Del Valle.
  8. Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters reacts as she is crowned by Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere during the 66th Miss Universe pageant at Planet Hollywood hotel-casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. November 26, 2017. REUTERS LAS VEGAS: A South African woman who helps train women in self-defense was crowned Miss Universe on Sunday at the pageant held in Las Vegas, with Miss Colombia and Miss Jamaica also making it to the final three. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, 22, who unleashed a big smile when she won, hails from Western Cape Province and recently earned a business management degree from North-West University. Her passion for self-defense was reinforced when she was hijacked and held at gunpoint about a month after winning her title as Miss South Africa, she said in a video on the Miss Universe website. Miss Colombia, Laura González, 22, was the first runner-up. She has been preparing to be an actress since the age of 16. After graduating from a performing arts school, she moved to Bogotá to build her career. The second runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett, 21. She is a model pursuing a degree in marketing at the University of the West Indies.
  9. This Sunday was one of the most nail-biting weekends of all time with people glued to their TV sets waiting to see who will become the next Miss Universe 2017. It was a dreadful moment for all the finalists, not because of the unimaginable pressure, but because the name was to be announced by none other than the legendary host Steve Harvey. For those having a tough time remembering why Harvey is feared so much, go ask Miss Colombia 2015 and Miss Universe 2015 and they will tell you how he botched the event for both of them back then. © Reuters Well, keeping the past aside, two years later Harvey was back to announce who will take the coveted crown home and thankfully he did not get the name wrong this time. And the people found their Miss Universe 2017 in 22-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from South Africa. Congratulations to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, the winner of the 2017 #MissUniverse competition! pic.twitter.com/JYuQYc3Lvo — Miss Universe (@MissUniverse) 27 November 2017 In the backdrop of the glamorous pageant night that is in its 66th year, 92 gorgeous beauties from across the globe came together in Las Vegas to fight for the coveted spot. This is considered to be largest number of contestants since 2011 and 2012. Nel-Peters dodged first runner-up Miss Colombia Laura González and second-runner up Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett to bring the crown home. © Reuters This victory is massive in all proportions because South Africa took home the crown after 39 long years. Nel-Peters is the second woman from the country to win the crown. The first Miss Universe from South Africa was Margaret Gardiner who won in the year 1978. © Reuters Well, for someone who managed to stay calm throughout Grammy winner Fergie's performance on 'A Little Work', while walking down the stage wearing gowns, she sure deserves to be crowned as Miss Universe. Jokes apart, Nel-Peters thanked South Africa for showering her with all the love and support for the pageant. South Africa, thank you for support and love throughout my #MissUniverse journey. I may be the new Miss Universe but I will always be your Miss South Africa - we did it! ð¿ð¦ð¿ð¦ð¿ð¦ pic.twitter.com/QwHAXGsdVA — Demi-LeighNel-Peters (@DemiLeighNP) 27 November 2017 So what all has the new Miss Universe in store for her? Reportedly, she will get a yearlong salary, a luxury apartment in New York City during the time of her reign. © Reuters Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is not someone who only depends on her beauty. She recently earned her business management degree from North-West University and has earlier actively worked for the welfare of women and even developed a program to train women in self-defense. In fact, a month after she was crowned as Miss South Africa, she was robbed at gunpoint, which further compelled her to work for women safety and empowerment. After Manushi Chhillar brought home the Miss World crown after 17 years, our bar of expectations went really up when we got to know that Shraddha Shashidhar will represent India at the prestigious pageant. However, Shraddha did not manage to make it to the top 10. Guess, the charm of 1994 and 2000 cannot be recreated every time.
  10. Manushi Chillar has not only brought the crown home, but has instilled hope in our hearts that Indian beauties are ready once again to take the world by storm. 11. It's been 17 years since an Indian was crowned Miss World, with the last being Priyanka Chopra in 2000. But last Friday, 20-year-old Manushi Chhillar broke that streak, making Indians everywhere proud. She was crowned Miss World in China, out of a pool of 121 extraordinary women. She is the sixth Indian woman to do so, thereby tying India with Venezuela as the country that has produced the most beauty queens. Her Journey © Reuters Manushi is from Haryana and says it has always been her dream to represent India on an international platform. “As a kid, I always wanted to participate in the competition but I never knew I would make it this far,” she says, adding that it was a journey she would never forget. She was born to two brilliant parents, which may help account for her stellar academic career. Her father is Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, a scientist at India's Defense Research and Development Organization while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, is head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences. Although Manushi was born in Rohtak, she studied in St. Thomas School in Delhi, which she feels gave her a much-needed dose of confidence. After school, she attended the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat, in hopes of becoming a cardiac surgeon (she is currently in her third year). Medicine and beauty pageants may not seem to go together, but Manushi says her medical training helped her prepare for the rigors of the Miss World competition: “When you are studying medicine, you are learning how to deal with people and you understand why they act the way they do." She describes herself as a nerd, but there's much more to her personality. She is also a poet, a painter and a trained Kuchipudi dancer. Her mother introduced her to dance at a young age, where she learned to love the stage. According to Manushi, “I was always focused on my studies and wanted to be a doctor, but I would also dream of being at a beauty pageant at least once in my life.” This was considerably complicated for her, considering her family background. Nobody in her family had ever considered the entertainment or modelling industry to be a viable career: she was the first in the family. When she found out that they were holding auditions for Miss India, she didn't let her medical career slide – she fit workout sessions and pageant training sessions in between classes. Her dedication and hard work explains the trajectory of her journey from Haryana to last June (when she was crowned the Femina Miss India World) and, of course, to her Miss World win. Her Ethos © BCCL 'Manushi' means humanity. The new Miss World says that her parents believed that she would change the world someday, and she's already started! The proof of her conviction is that she didn't just win Miss World: she also won the Head to Head challenge and the 'Beauty with a Purpose' title. “Since her childhood,” says her aunt, “she liked playing with dolls and dressing up. But she also wanted to serve the people. Even though she has become Miss World she will go on to complete her medical studies.” Besides her surgeon aspirations, Manushi is dedicated to helping women and girls through her 'Project Shakti', which is an initiative to empower poor rural women and help them earn their livelihoods. She has also visited about twenty villages in an effort to spread awareness on hygiene, a cause that is very dear to her heart. She estimates that she has managed to make a difference in about five thousand women's lives through her efforts. Her motto in life – which has been exemplified in her life thus far - is "When you cease to dream, you cease to live.” These dreams seem to extend beyond the typical Bollywood aspirants. When asked whether she would strive to emulate her predecessors - Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra- Manushi said: “I feel that Miss India is a stepping stone for anything you want to do, not just Bollywood.” Her Inspiration © Facebook It was easy to predict Manushi's win, because of her stellar answer during the Q&A final round. When asked “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” she replied, “A mother. I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it's not always about cash but I feel it's the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids.” She cited her mother as her best friend during the Head to Head challenge, too, saying that she was thrilled to be compared to her mother. Like most desi girls, it's clear that family ties are very important to her. (All five members of her family were present when she won the Miss World title, clapping and cheering her on.) But she says she will never tell them about the dates she goes on! Her Routine © Facebook Manushi follows a carefully designed regime in order to keep her body svelte and in good health, which comes as no surprise. She eats plenty of lentils, quinoa, oatmeal, and sautéed vegetables, and does yoga with her personal trainer. She also makes sure to drink 3 litres of water a day and switches her mobile phone off 2 hours before going to bed. Eating breakfast every day is a must, says her nutritionist. She eats regular meals and uses smaller plates in order to avoid temptation. The Girl Behind the Crown © BCCL When you watch Manushi glide down the pageant stage, she looks so regal and confident that she appears older. But in interviews, you see a spunky girl fresh out of her teens, who describes cheese and chocolate as her guilty pleasures. Ask her about the worst pickup line she's ever heard, and she says, “An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but I'll give up on apples if the doctor is you.” What would she do if she was a guy? She says, “I would hit on Manushi Chhillar.” Clearly, the girl doesn't lack in humour! When Shashi Tharoor cracked a joke about demonetization at her expense, she took it with good grace, saying there was “chill” within Chhillar. Manushi's idea of celebration is to have dinner with her family and close friends, which is something she hasn't done in a while now. She also loves shopping for shoes, Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and binge-watching Game of Thrones. However, all TV binges will have to wait, because she doesn't even have the time to get a solid 8 hours of sleep a night! Here's hoping she has time to enjoy her success. As Priyanka Chopra tweeted to her young successor: “cherish and learn, and most importantly enjoy it. Bravo.”
  12. Now, unless you chose to live under a rock since the past few days, the name Manushi Chhillar won't sound unfamiliar to you. By now everyone knows about Manushi, a medical student from Haryana, who brought the coveted crown home after 17 long years. Before Manushi, it was 'Quantico' actress and desi girl Priyanka Chopra who won the Miss World crown in 2000. © Reuters Apart from her bewitching beauty and indomitable personality, it's her sincere love for her mother that touched millions of hearts and that of the judges at the event. When asked which profession deserves highest salary and why, she said that a mother deserves the highest respect and salary in the world since they sacrifice so much for their kids. © Twitter And in the blink of an eye, people found their Miss World in Manushi Chhillar, while she shined wearing the blue crown. Soon, the wishes started pouring it from all parts of the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and celebrities like Sushmita Sen, Randeep Hooda, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza too congratulating her for this achievement. While, everyone was wishing her in the plain old simple manner, Shashi Tharoor chose to take the 'punny' way, which backfired terribly in his case. If you ever go inside a dark empty room and shout “Who is controversy's favourite child?” The hollow room will shout back only one name – Shashi Tharoor. Not that he is the only one, but he definitely tops the list. Twitter would have honestly been a dull place, had it not been for some people who can stir up a storm with almost anything they say. © Wikimedia After hitting us with his heavily worded “Exasperating farrago of distortions…” tweet, Shashi Tharoor tried to use Manushi's victory to take a dig at BJP and demonetisation. He wrote, “What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World.” For those who didn't get the connection between the two and why is this such a big deal, 'chillar' is a Hindi term which means loose change. What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World! — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) 19 November 2017 As soon as he posted this, Twitter went berserk with people trolling him for using word play to make fun of her surname. This one tweet did not go down well with many people and the National Commission for Women (NCW) was one of them. In fact, NCW India even wrote about how they will summon Tharoor to commission for his “derogatory and degrading tweet on our pride Manushi Chhillar.” @NCWIndia will summon @ShashiTharoor to commission on his derogatory and degrading tweet on our pride @ManushiChhillar She got fame and name to country by winning #MissWorld crown — NCW (@NCWIndia) November 19, 2017 Soon, Tharoor realised that his joke has backfired on him, so he tried to control the damage (that was already done) by apologizing for his punny remark. In fact, he asked people to chill, which only triggered the NCW chief. Guess the pun IS the lowest form of humour, & the bilingual pun lower still! Apologies to the many who seem to have been righteously offended by a light-hearted tweet today. Certainly no offence was meant to a bright young girl whose answer i've separately praised. Please: Chill! — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) 19 November 2017 I was thinking to summon him but he apologised but his apologies aren't genuine. It seems he's telling people to chill after apologising. I would suggest him he must apologise properly to the nation: Rekha Sharma, NCW Chief on Shashi Tharoor's tweet on Miss World Manushi Chhillar pic.twitter.com/ddVeUXMfQ7 — ANI (@ANI) November 20, 2017 Amidst all this debate and discussion, the person who is being talked about, Manushi Chhillar has now replied to Shashi Tharoor's 'Chhillar' tweet. And her tweet will make you want to crown her Miss World again! Exactly @vineetjaintimes agree with you on this. A girl who has just won the World isn't going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. 'Chillar' talk is just small change - let's not forget the 'chill' within Chhillar ð @ShashiTharoor https://t.co/L5gqMf8hfi — Manushi Chhillar (@ManushiChhillar) November 20, 2017 While Tharoor's comment raised many eyebrows, Manushi got to hit the last nail with her epic response.
  13. After a long hiatus of 17 years, the coveted crown of Miss World has finally come to India and as expected our happiness and pride knows no bounds. The woman who made this happen, who made the whole nation proud, is 20-year-old Medical student from Haryana, Manushi Chhillar. Manushi is the sixth Indian to win this prestigious title. 'Quantico' star aka our Desi girl, Priyanka Chopra had won the title in 2000. Manushi defeated beauties from over 108 countries to win the crown, in a dazzling ceremony held at Sanya City Arena, China. The crown was passed on to the new queen by Stephanie Del Valle, Miss World 2016 from Puerto Rico. (c) Reuters “The feeling is still sinking in and I am very excited to make India proud too. I'm also looking forward to the year ahead,” Manushi was quoted saying in a statement after this exceptional victory. However, apart from her win, it's her amazing answer that has stunned the whole world and filled our hearts with respect for her at the same time. When asked about “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” This is what Manushi said, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it's not always about cash but I feel it's the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary.” Well said, girl! (c) Reuters Manushi's victory opened the floodgates of congratulatory messages from all corners of the country. People's excitement and joy knew no bounds and even as I am writing this, I am sure that the nation's heart is beaming with pride, not just for her victory but also for her love for her mother and her simplicity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish Manushi and wrote that India is proud of her accomplishment. Congratulations @ManushiChhillar! 14. Miss World Manushi Chhillar. Photo: AFP An Indian medical student was crowned Miss World at a glitzy event in a Chinese resort on Saturday, making her country the joint-most successful in the beauty pageant's history. Manushi Chhillar is the sixth Indian winner of the long-running contest, following in the footsteps of Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai. Her win brings India level with Venezuela as the countries with most victories in the history of the pageant, now in its 67th edition. Chhillar, 20, is a trained Indian classical dancer who also enjoys painting and hopes to open a chain of non-profit hospitals in rural areas, according to the Miss World website. "Thank you, everyone, for your constant love, support," and prayers she wrote on Twitter. "This one's for India." Her victory rapidly became a top trending topic on the social media platform in India after the announcement, with Manohar Lal Khattar ? the minister of her home state of Haryana ? among the first to offer congratulations. Chhillar was handed the crown by last year's winner, Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico, at the ceremony in the Chinese coastal city of Sanya on Saturday night. Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico finished as runners-up. Saturday marked the Miss World pageant's return to Sanya, on southern China's Hainan Island, for a seventh time, where the event was last held in 2015. At the previous occasion two years ago, controversy erupted as officials in Hong Kong stopped Miss Canada, Anastasia Lin, from boarding a plane bound for Sanya, telling her she would not receive a visa. The 25-year old actress claimed the decision was due to her stance on China's human rights record, including its persecution of Falun Gong, a Chinese spiritual group of which she is a practitioner. At last year's event in the United States, Lin was again embroiled in controversy when pageant officials reportedly warned her against speaking to the press for three weeks about human rights abuses in China. Miss Lin did not participate in this year's event, with Canada represented instead by Cynthia Menard, a high school student.
  15. Manushi Chhillar isn't just a pretty face but a complete package. Making India proud, the glamorous Haryana beauty brought back the coveted 'Miss World' crown home after 17 years, making every citizen proud of her accomplishment. (c) Reuters Manushi who had made it to the top 5 along with contestants from England, France, Kenya, and Mexico, had always dreamt of this day. The official announcement about the winner was made on pageant's official Twitter handle. The tweet broke the Internet and wishes started pouring in for her from all around the globe. “The winner of Miss World 2017 is Miss India Manushi Chhillar,” the tweet said. Leaving her medical studies aside, the 20-year-old won the title of Femina Miss India this year. Defeating 108 contestants from various nations, she won the coveted title, proving that she was every bit worthy of it. Manushi is involved in various social activities as well and after winning Miss India, she started an awareness campaign about menstrual hygiene. Talking about it to the media, she said, “The cause is close to my heart, and in my own way, I have managed to make a difference in the lives of about 5,000 women. If an organisation like Miss World backs it, it could reach a different level altogether.” (c) AP To win the Miss World Pageant beauty isn't the only factor that is taken into consideration, as various aspects of one's personality play an important role as well. Their intelligence, confidence and spontaneity and other skills play a vital role. (c) Reuters And now that we know the winner, we can say for sure that Manushi possessed all these qualifications to make it till here. But what won her the title was the answer that she gave to the judges that won everyone's heart. The panel asked her a question and her answer gave her the golden ticket to the title. It wouldn't be wrong to say that what she felt and expressed played a huge role. (c) AP The judges asked her, in her opinion which profession deserves the highest pay and why. To which she replied, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it's not always about cash but I feel it's the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary.” Check out the video here: Well, this answer was definitely the one that touched everyone's heart and we are totally impressed by this beautiful lady. What do you think about the answer she gave?

Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was announced as the first runner-up, while Miss England Stephanie Hill was declared the second runner-up at an event held at Sanya City Area. 19. Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Sweden, who booked a place at next year´s tournament in Russia with a 1-0 aggregate win on Monday. The Swedes survived wave after wave of Italian attacks in the second leg of their European playoff tie on a night of unremitting tension and drama at a disbelieving San Siro. Four-times champions Italy, who had not missed the World Cup since the 1958 finals in Sweden, penned the visitors into their own half for most of the game and created a hatful of chances but could not find a way past Robin Olsen in the Sweden goal. The hosts, who enjoyed 75 percent of possession, had shots cleared off the line, others stopped by Olsen and penalty appeals turned down as they pressed desperately for a goal. "We had no weapons left. We just had to sit there and hope that we could hang on," said Sweden coach Jan Andersson." "We couldn´t do it in any other way, they are so skilful. "The closest Italy came to scoring was a Ciro Immobile effort which was partially stopped by Olsen and cleared away by Victor Lindelof as it was about to trickle over the line. Italy´s players collapsed onto the pitch in despair as the final whistle went and even veterans such as Giorgio Chiellini were inconsolable. The crowd´s support during the game quickly turned to hostility as boos rang around the stadium.
  20. He is a total charmer and there is no one who can deny that. 'King of Romance' Shah Rukh Khan is loved by everyone and it's because of his sheer talent and showmanship. Such is his charm, that even if he fumbles or makes a gaffe it is just too adorable to look at. He just knows how to grab attention which is an art in itself. Every time he takes the stage, you can't help but fall a little more for his persona. Recently, the man was at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) and left everyone in splits with his style. Viral Bhayani From massive stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol to Kamal Hassan, the opening ceremony of KIFF was a star-studded affair. But it was SRK who once again impressed everyone with his charismatic personality when he delivered a speech in Bengali in front of thousands of people. Talking to everyone present there King Khan said, "I have promised that I will keep on learning Bangla. My Bengali has to get better. This is my new attempt with eight lines. Please bear with me. I need to get this right because by next year I have to do it without reading it from the paper.” (c) Viral Bhayani Reading from the paper the actor said, “Ei film festival er bishesh onusthane uposthith thakte pere sammanito bodh korchi. (I feel honoured to be present at here at this film festival). Sanskriti ebong oitihjjyor ei shohor. Shob cheye Mishti Shohor Kolkata (Kolkata is the city of culture and is the sweetest city).” His speech left everyone in splits and we totally loved Kajol's expression when he spoke. He has asked us.” Viral Bhayani Later, the actor took to his Twitter account and also shared a snap where he is seen hugging Mamata Banerjee and captioned it, “Too much fun and love at KIFF 2017. 21. Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo reacts during a match between Real Madrid and Leganes in Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Madrid, Spain, November 6, 2016. REUTERS/Sergio Perez/Files LISBON: Cristiano Ronaldo was surprisingly left out of the Portugal squad announced on Friday by coach Fernando Santos, who suggested it was merely to give his superstar a break. Santos denied the omission was due to the four-time Ballon d'Or winner's relatively meagre goal-scoring start to the Spanish league season. Ronaldo has scored only one goal in six La Liga games for Real Madrid, although he has been on fire in Europe with six goals in four matches. "Do you think that would be a reason to leave out Ronaldo? No, impossible," Santos said of the former Manchester United star's league form. Portugal face Saudi Arabia and the United States in a pair of low-key friendlies on November 10 and 14. Ronaldo is likely being merely rested, as he was for Portugal's final Confederations Cup match in Russia in June, a meaningless third-place play-off victory over Mexico. Santos's 24-man squad is also missing several other stalwarts including goalkeeper Rui Patricio, defender Jose Fonte, midfielders William Carvalho, Joao Moutinho and Andre Gomes and winger Ricardo Quaresma. "Some aren't there simply to rest while others are injured," explained Santos. Squad Goalkeepers Anthony Lopes (Lyon/FRA), Beto (Goztepe/TUR), and Jose Sa (FC Porto). Defenders Edgar Ie (Lille/FRA), Joao Cancelo (Inter Milan/ITA), Pepe (Besiktas/TUR), Kevin Rodrigues (Real Sociedad/ESP), Luis Neto (Fenerbahçe/TUR), Nelson Semedo (Barcelona/ESP), Ricardo Pereira (FC Porto), Ricardo Ferreira (Braga), and Antunes (Getafe/ESP). Midfielders Bernardo Silva (Manchester City/ENG), Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Lisbon), Danilo Pereira (FC Porto), Joao Mario (Inter Milan/ITA), Manuel Fernandes (Lokomotiv Moscow/RUS), Rony Lopes (Monaco/FRA), and Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton/ENG). Forwards Andre Silva (AC Milan/ITA), Bruma (RB Leipzig/GER), Eder (Lokomotiv Moscow/RUS), Gelson Martins (Sporting Lisbon), and Goncalo Guedes (Valencia/ESP).
  22. Miss Peru pageant contestants tore down the glitzy façade of the event as they used the platform to raise awareness regarding violence against women. In a segment, where the women are required to introduce themselves and give their measurements, the contestants highlighted the violence against women statistics in their country, reported Buzzfeed. The pageant organiser, identified as Jessica Newton, remarked that the decision to raise awareness regarding gender-based violence sought to empower women. ?Everyone who does not denounce and everyone who does not do something to stop this is an accomplice,? she added. Here is a list of all the women who shared the gender violence statistics of Peru: ?My name is Camila Canicoba and I represent the department of Lima. My measurements are: 2,202 cases of femicide reported in the last nine years in my country.? Photo: courtesy YouTube ?My name is Juana Acevedo and my measurements are: more than 70% of women in our country are victims of street harassment.? ?My name is Luciana Fernández and I represent the city of Huánuco, and my measurements are: 13,000 girls suffer sexual abuse in our country.? ?My name is Melina Machuca, I represent the department of Cajamarca, and my measurements are: more than 80% of women in my city suffer from violence.? ?Almendra Marroquín here. I represent Cañete, and my measurements are: more than 25% of girls and teenagers are abused in their schools.? ?My name is Bélgica Guerra and I represent Chincha. My measurements are: the 65% of university women who are assaulted by their partners.? ?My name is Romina Lozano and I represent the constitutional province of Callao, and my measurements are: 3,114 women victims of trafficking up until 2014.? Amid a global climate where known Hollywood faces have been alleged to engage in violence against women, and women speaking more openly about their abuse and harassment as part of #MeToo movement, the move seeks to put the spotlight on the fact that women across the globe are fighting for gender equality.

  25. No, you are not dreaming. No, I am not dreaming. The one and only KYGO is coming to India in November for a three city tour. So, 'I'm In Love', for the 'First Time'. KYGO please 'Stay'. We can keep 'Raging' and I'll tell my friends you 'Stole The Show'. Now that I've gotten all that excitement out of my system let's get down to the nitty gritties. Hell, no! Still too excited. Just take a look at what he did at EDC 2017 in Las Vegas. It's epic! I'm guessing that video should be more than enough to get you hooked and convince you to get your tickets. But, you can't right now. Tickets are only going on sale from tomorrow at noon. Three paragraphs in and I still can't believe this is happening. KYGO, yes KYGO, not UberGo, KYGO is coming to India. Source: Percept I think the initial excitement is beyond me finally. So, let's get down to business. The next few paragraphs are dedicated to the uninitiated. While I'm not going to waste my time talking about why KYGO is special for me, what I'm going to try and do is convince you why KYGO should be special for you in 4 points or less! - He's the youngest artist to get a billion streams on Spotify. Suck on that Drake! - He's worked with legends like U2 and current day superstars like Selena Gomez and Ed Sheeran. - You probably remember this song called Firestone. Remember who the artist was? It's KYGO. - He's also the first house music producer ever to perform at the closing ceremony of the Olympics. (Rio Olympics 2016) Still not convinced? Here's a crash course in what KYGO is all about in 3 songs. No, Firestone isn't one of them! #1. Stole The Show (2015) #2. It Ain't Me (2017) You know I was kidding about Firestone not being a part of this, right? Of course it has to be! #3 Firestone (2015) If I'm not able to sway you with words, there's a documentary 'Stole The Show' on Apple Music too. Here's the trailer. If you watch it and don't buy tickets, I give up! For the rest, get ready for an awesome EDM experience. If you're in Hyderabad, Delhi or Mumbai, KYGO's coming to you. If you're anywhere else in the country, start making travel plans. As for ticket prices, they start at just INR 2000. In your face, Justin Bieber! Remember, Bookmyshow, tomorrow at noon. Be there or be square!
