  1. US President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull hold a joint news conference in the East Room of the White House in Washington, US, February 23, 2018. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull traded compliments and declarations of enduring "mateship" at the White House Friday, striving to put an ill-tempered first phone call behind them. From the moment Trump strode out to greet Turnbull on the South Lawn and they shared a side-by-side stroll along the colonnade to the Oval Office, it was clear the pair were ready to put on a show. Both sang the praises of a more than century-old relationship, with Trump picking up his guest?s reference to 100 years of US-Australian "mateship ? a term that you used very beautifully, Mr prime minister." For his part, Turnbull flattered, saying he was "inspired" by Trump?s tax cuts, and adding for good measure that the US president?s leadership on infrastructure was "admired around the world." Trump suggested he wanted to visit Australia soon and said it was "an honour to have Prime Minister Turnbull, Mrs Turnbull ? friends of mine and friends of Melania?s for actually quite some time." He announced a littoral combat ship would be named the USS Canberra, after the Australian capital, which the US president pronounced with a heavy emphasis on the second syllable. "The relationship that we have with Australia is a terrific relationship and probably stronger now than ever before, maybe because of our relationship, our friendship," Trump said. It was not always so. The pair held an infamously bad-tempered telephone call early on in Trump?s presidency. Officials say Trump exploded and hung up after he was told about a Barack Obama-era deal to move refugees from Australia to America. Diplomats ? and even a mutual friend, golfer Greg Norman, who was at the White House on Friday ? rushed to repair the damage. Longtime war allies Australia has fought alongside the United States in every modern war, including Vietnam, and is a key part of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network. The United States remains one of Australia?s largest trading partners and, seen from Canberra, a vital counterbalance to growing Chinese assertiveness in Asia-Pacific. Turnbull, a former Goldman Sachs banker, thanked Trump and Melania for their "hospitality and friendship." "It?s 100 years of mateship we are celebrating, 100 years since the first time American and Australian soldiers went into battle together," he said. This year marks the centennial of the Battle of Hamel, on France?s Western Front, when troops from both countries fought under Australian command. "We have been fighting side-by-side in freedom?s cause ever since," Turnbull added. "100 more to come." The pair have met since the infamous call, most notably in May aboard the Intrepid, moored in New York. That military and Hollywood-tinged pow-wow was designed to appeal to America?s showbiz-inclined president. Getting down to business, Trump said that the pair would discuss "trade deals, we are working on military and protection and all of the things that we would be discussing." Turnbull?s entourage, however, had one eye on events at home. During his time in Washington, his deputy prime minister resigned after successive scandals over sexual harassment, his citizenship and a threat to euthanize dogs belonging to Hollywood actor Johnny Depp.

Speaking on Geo News' show 'Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath', Ismail said they are in talks with 25, 30 countries and many of these countries have appreciated Pakistan's steps. "We have been working and telling the world our stance. The reason for which they want to put us on watchlist...we have ended that very reason." He said there is positive feedback from officials and states they have been talking to and it appears that Pakistan will not be put on the watchlist. US moves to put Pakistan on global terrorist-financing watchlist A meeting of FATF member states is due to take place next week in Paris, where the motion on Pakistan could be adopted Responding to a question about the motion being focused on Hafiz Saeed and India's allegations, the PM's advisor said the process has become "India-inspired, India-centric" and that an international organisation like FATF is doing so because of conspiracies of one country. He, however, said that there were loopholes in their laws. "As far as these technical issues or the legal loopholes are concerned, we are ready to talk to them (FATF), if it would be on technical level and not political." Ismail called it "injustice" to single out an individual or organisation. "When we feel that the whole process is India-inspired and they have only been singling out one organisation or one individual, then this is injustice." He said that Pakistan has fulfilled its international commitments and obligations under the UN charter. "We have fulfilled our obligations and expect the world fraternity to understand that Pakistan is meeting its reasonable expectations," the PM's advisor said. "After all this, what India wants is mischief," he concluded.
  3. A currency trader counts Pakistani Rupee notes as he prepares an exchange of US dollars in Islamabad, Pakistan, on December 11, 2017. ? Reuters FILE ISLAMABAD: The United States has put forward a motion to place Pakistan on a global terrorist-financing watchlist with an anti-money laundering monitoring group, according to a senior Pakistani official. A meeting of FATF member states is due to take place next week in Paris, where the organisation could adopt the motion on Pakistan. Pakistan has been scrambling in recent months to avert being added to a list of countries deemed non-compliant with terrorist financing regulations by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a measure officials fear could hurt its economy. Pakistan?s de facto finance minister, Miftah Ismail, told Reuters the United States and Britain put forward the motion several weeks ago, and later persuaded France and Germany to co-sponsor it. "We are now working with the US, UK, Germany and France for the nomination to be withdrawn," Ismail said, speaking by telephone from Europe. "We are also quite hopeful that even if the US did not withdraw the nomination that we will prevail and not be put on the watchlist." Pakistan was previously on the FATF watchlist from 2012 to 2015.
  4. The 2012 action comedy '21 Jump Street', is primarily remembered for Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's crazy antics and hilarious comic timing. However, there is one particular scene that we can't get out of our heads even today – Jonah Hill's confession in front of 'Korean Jesus'. While Hill was consumed in sharing his problems with the Korean Jesus, Ice Cube tells him, “Stop f**king with Korean's Jesus. He ain't got time for your problems, he's busy with Korean shit.” Let's accept it; we all had a great laugh at this scene and most of us even thought to ourselves that what's with this reference to Korean Jesus. We mean do they have a separate Jesus who only protects Koreans' 'Seoul' (we hope you got the pun there) Well, turns out the South Koreans indeed have their own Jesus and he is EXTREMELY ripped. In fact, this Jesus looks so jacked that we are now wondering if he did CrossFit. We have always seen the 'son of God' Jesus Christ, depicted as someone who is shredded but thin. But, we guess Koreans like their Jesus to be swole and pumped up that it puts every bodybuilder out there to shame. Where is this glorious idol? People have been losing their minds over this statue of Jesus at Christian Sculpture Park in Yeongcheon, South Korea. And why not? This Jesus demands all our respect and praise. Honestly, if Hollywood directors ever decide to make a movie on Korean Jesus, don't look for any Korean actors; just rope in The Rock or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Because this Jesus looks like he can beat your sh*t out if you ever commit any sins. Imgur If you look closely at the statue, it looks like a cross between a crucifix and what looks like a globe on Jesus' shoulders. Well, now it all makes sense. The South Koreans are far-sighted, they knew that Jesus is holding the weight of the world on his shoulders, so he needs to be muscular and jacked up. This sculpture park was reportedly built in November 2012 by retired pastor Jang Dal-Yoon. Despite being in place since 2012, it started hogging limelight only recently, when a Reddit user Lokimonoxide shared this picture on the internet and asked “Where is this glorious idol?” Since then, people can't stop admiring and also cracking fitness jokes on the Korean Jesus. People tapped into their inner comedian and flooded the internet with their hilarious interpretations. Korean Jesus is busy staying jacked and Chinesus is focusing on his studies. Hopefully we get the whole team back soon #Jesii #TeamJesus — Thailand Jesus (@thailandjesus) June 24, 2017 Did P.T. with the Marine Corps today. It was hard, another step to getting as jacked as Korean Jesus. That mans last supper was pure protein pic.twitter.com/2pHbwVtrDy — Michael ð±ð² (@Billlliam) December 1, 2016 Imgur Imgur Imgur Imgur Imgur Imgur A certain Imgur user said, “And verily did Jesus lift on every day; and lo, he skippeth not leg day. And there was much rejoicing and yelling of bro!” Looks like, this statue's creator imagined Jesus as someone who spent his time lifting weights.
  5. Modern day dating is getting crude by the day and there is nothing we can really do about it. While some trends need to be included again, most dating trends in today's day and age are quite dated. Modern day dating has become less fastidious and more agile in nature. Everyone is in a rush to let go, get it on, move on or hook up. The sanctity of old traditions are conveniently forgotten, as this generation thrives on easily replenishable thrills! While most things from old school dating are forgotten in convenience, there are some trends that still haven't changed. For instance, the inevitable and ambiguous question of who pays for the date. Do you go dutch or does the man still pay? Or are women voicing out their concern over something that's manipulating their financial power and are willing to foot the entire bill at times? Well, it's all subjective I guess and if it's talked about before hand, this dilemma can easily be sorted, if not restored. (c)Thinkstock/Getty Images For instance, this gentleman here dealt with 'who pays' the bill so effectively, we're actually quite proud of this fantastic moment (maybe). Just goes to show, before jumping into probable fancy dinners with your date you met on an online platform, be wary of what you're getting into or make sure your date has all modern dating ethics in place! Scroll down to see how minilogo37 dealt with what he thought was an irrevocable situation with his Tinder date and got away, scott free and how! (Imgur) While most people silently applauded his 'ethical' dating skills, some of them weren't too happy with how he dealt with the situation! So, the next time you plan on going out with someone you met on an online dating platform, define the odds, maybe even talk about them and if you can't, you can probably chicken out of the situation?
  6. The late Shahzeb Khan (L), suspect Shahrukh Jatoi (R) KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday issued orders to put names of suspects in Shahzeb Khan murder case on the Exit Control List, as it accepted the appeal of civil society activists against the Sindh High Court's (SHC) retrial order for hearing. During hearing of the appeal at the Supreme Court?s Karachi Registry, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar directed the government and interior ministry to place the names of suspects Shahrukh Jatoi, Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari on the ECL. The apex court also directed the interior ministry to issue relevant instructions to all airports in the country. The court also issued bailable arrest warrants for the suspects and sent out notices to all the respondents in the case. Members of civil society had approached the Supreme Court against the SHC ruling which set aside the death penalty for Shahrukh Jatoi and others convicted for the 2012 murder of Shahzeb and ordered their retrial by a sessions court. Ten civil society activists ? including Jibran Nasir, Jamshed Raza Mahmood, Afiya Shehrbano Zia, Naeem Sadiq, Nazim Fida Hussain Haji, Zulfiqar Shah, Aquila Ismail, Fahim Zaman Khan, and Naziha Syed Ali ? had filed a criminal petition in the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry challenging the SHC?s November 28, 2017 ruling which stated that the murder case does not fall within the jurisdiction of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. Civil activists approach Supreme Court against SHC ruling in Shahzeb murder case Activists have filed a petition in SC Karachi registry against SHC ruling which set aside death penalty for Shahrukh Jatoi and others convicted in Shahzeb Khan murder case In their petition, the civil society members stated that they have the legal standing to file the petition for leave to appeal as they are citizens of Karachi and reside in the same locality ? Defence Housing Authority ? where the murder took place. They stated in the petition that the incident was not just of an individual nature, but carried serious repercussions for the society at large. On December 23, 2017, Jatoi, the son of an influential feudal, and other defendants in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, were released from custody on bail after Shahzeb?s father submitted an affidavit in support of the defendant's bail application. Shahzeb was gunned down by Jatoi in a posh locality of Karachi on December 25, 2012. An ATC in 2013 had awarded death sentences to Jatoi and Siraj Talpur for the murder of Shahzeb, while life sentences were awarded to Sajjad Ali Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari.
  7. PAT leader Dr Tahir ul Qadri. File Photo: Geo News ISLAMABAD: The federal capital's local administration is considering requesting the Interior Ministry to put Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahir ul Qadri's name on the Exit Control List, sources informed Geo News on Sunday. Sources said the local administration has also prepared a report on the cases and judicial proceedings on Qadri. As many as five cases have been registered against the PAT leader, among which three are registered under anti-terrorism clauses. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has issued a permanent warrant against Qadri, and also ordered to confiscate his properties, sources said. Unlike Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, the PAT leader has not yet taken bail from the court in the cases. In August 2014, violence broke out in the federal capital when PTI and PAT supporters attempted to break a police cordon and storm the PM House, using cranes to remove barricades. The clashes between police and protesters resulted in the deaths of three people and caused injuries to over 560. Of the injured, 77 were security officials deployed in the Red Zone, including SSP Junejo. The decision to march to the PM House was taken after talks between the government, PTI and PAT had failed to end the deadlock over the resignation of then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The two parties were protesting against the 'rigging' in the 2013 General Elections.
  8. Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal - File Photo ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday responded to US Vice President Mike Pence, saying that allies do not put each other on notice. The Foreign Office emphasised that externalizing blame should be put on notice and the focus should be on peace and reconciliation mechanisms. In an unannounced trip to Afghanistan, Pence said that US President Donald Trump had ?put Pakistan on notice for providing safe haven? to terrorists on its soil. Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said: ?The statement is at variance with the extensive conversations we have had with the US administration.? A press release by the Foreign Office stated that factors such as the exponential increase in drug production, expansion of ungoverned spaces, industrial-scale corruption, breakdown of governance, and letting Daesh gain a foothold in Afghanistan should be on notice. US President Trump has put Pakistan on notice, says Pence on Afghanistan visit Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with US, much to lose from harbouring terrorists, says US Vice President Speaking to American troops at Bagram Airbase, Pence said: "Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our efforts in Afghanistan. The days to shelter terrorists have gone. It has much to lose by continuing to harbour terrorists." Pence then flew by helicopter to Kabul, where he met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah at the presidential palace. Pence told the leaders he hoped his presence there was tangible evidence that the US was ?here to see this through". Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua expressed deep concern over Mike Pence?s comments regarding Pakistan and its role in the war against terrorism. Addressing the Senate's Standing Committee on External Affairs, Janjua said the recent comments by the US vice president and Pentagon were worrisome, and urged the United States to treat both Pakistan and India on an equal footing.
  9. People holding mobile phones are silhouetted against a backdrop projected with the Twitter logo in this illustration picture taken in Warsaw September 27, 2013. Photo: Reuters SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter Inc said on Monday it would begin putting a warning in front of pictures that show Nazi swastikas and other items it determines are hateful imagery, as well as ban their use in any profile photos on the social media network. The step is one of several that Twitter said it would take to crack down on white nationalists and other violent or hateful groups, which have become unwelcome on a service that once took an absolutist view of free speech. Twitter said in a statement it would shut down accounts affiliated with non-government organizations that promote violence against civilians and ban usernames that constitute a violent threat or racial slur. It said it would also remove tweets that it determined celebrate violence or glorify people who commit violence. Twitter, a San Francisco company founded in 2006, had called itself ?the free speech wing of the free speech party? and tried to stay out of battles among users. But that has changed as persistent harassers have driven some women and minorities off Twitter, limiting their ability to express themselves. A rise in white nationalism in the United States has also changed tech industry standards. In August, social media networks began removing white nationalists after hundreds gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia, and one of them was charged with murdering a 32-year-old woman by running her down in a car. In October, Twitter vowed to toughen rules on online sexual harassment, bullying and other forms of misconduct. Tweets can still include hate imagery, but users will have to click through a warning to see them, the company said. Hate images will be banned from profile photos, and further restricted where national laws require, as in Germany. The Nazi swastika was the only specific example of a hateful image that Twitter gave, but the company said it would try to give warnings for all symbols historically associated with hate groups or which depict people as less than human. Twitter said it had decided not to categorize the US Confederate flag as hateful imagery, citing its place in history.
  10. Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah scored fine individual goals as Liverpool moved back into the top four of the Premier League with a ruthless 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday. Coutinho opened the scoring in the 20th minute by slaloming through the right-hand side of Bournemouth?s defence and finding the bottom corner with a composed finish. Dejan Lovren doubled the lead with a close-range diving header six minutes later and Salah made it 3-0 a minute before halftime by skipping past fullback Charlie Daniels in the right channel and beating goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with a neat left-foot shot. Coutinho crossed for fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino to head Liverpool?s fourth in the 66th minute. Salah?s goal was his 20th this season in all competitions and put him two clear of Tottenham Hotspur?s Harry Kane at the top of the Premier League scoring charts on 14. Liverpool are now unbeaten in nine league matches and have moved up to fourth in the standings, one point ahead of Arsenal, who drop to fifth. Bournemouth have not won in six games in the league and remain 16th, one point above the relegation zone. ?I?m really pleased about pretty much everything,? Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said. ?We knew how Bournemouth can play football if you let them. Our tactical discipline was good. ?We scored a fantastic first goal, forced the second goal, scored a world-class third goal and then the fourth was a fantastic cross and a fantastic header. It was really well-deserved and I enjoyed it.? Liverpool dominated the match and would have won by a greater margin had Coutinho not seen an 11th-minute free-kick hit the inside of the post and rebound across goal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Ings also struck the post for the visitors in the second half. Bournemouth were offered a route back into the match with the score at 2-0, but Jermain Defoe?s low strike hit the post and ricocheted to safety. ?We didn?t get our game going today and when you don?t perform against the top teams, you?re going to get punished,? Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said. ?It was very disappointing for us today.?
  11. While a majority of us are always concerned about losing weight, there are people who are looking to put on a few kilos. Especially ectomorphs, have a difficult time gaining weight and muscle mass. After spending some time in the gym, they fall prey to 'desi' gym trainers who recommend them useless supplements like mass gainers. To gain weight, all you need is a well-structured diet with a few high-calorie foods. Below, are 4 food items that have high-calorie content and can easily be included in a structured diet plan to put on muscle mass. 1) Rice Easily accessible and can be prepared without any hassle, white rice is something that must show up on every eating plan. Rice takes only around 15 minutes to be cooked. One cup of cooked rice which is around 150 grams provides around 40 grams of carbs yielding around 180 calories. Such high percentage of carbs and high calories make rice a perfect food for anyone who wants to gain weight. You can add protein sources like chicken or eggs to make it chicken biryani or egg biryani which will make it a perfect meal for lunch or dinner. Nuts (And Nut Butter) Nuts are quite dense in calories and come in handy as anytime snack. You can carry them easily with you in a small container and they have a very long shelf life. The best part of nuts is that they provide you all the three macros i.e. Fats, Crabs and protein. Fats in nuts are the essential fats that your body needs to obtain from outside sources. Nuts can be added to smoothies and yoghurts as well. The only thing to keep in mind is that nut butter should be preferably free of artificial flavours and sugars. Starchy Vegetables and Carbs The quality of starchy vegetables is that they are calorie dense. The primary motive for anyone who is looking to gain weight is to increase the daily calorie intake. For this, you need to include as much calorie dense food as possible. Starchy vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, legumes, oats, corn etc are high in calories. You should include a combination of these items in your everyday meal plan. Cheese Since seventy percent of all the cheese is fat, cheese is a high-calorie food item. Another advantage of cheese is that it has good taste and can be added to a variety of dishes. Fat has 9 calories per gram which are more than one gram of carb and one gram of protein taken together. Therefore, including a small amount of cheese in your diet is a smart move if you want to increase your caloric intake. To gain weight, you don't need supplements. You need more calories from your food. Your primary target should be to increase your daily calorie intake and enter into a caloric surplus. Neither should you have a diet too high in protein. Concentrate on a moderate protein intake, moderate fat and high carb diet. Effort should be made to avoid carbs that are artificially flavoured and processed. 13. File Photo LAHORE: Pakistan Saturday put off their three-match Twenty20 series with the West Indies scheduled later this month to March next year, citing weather conditions as the reason for the postponement. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi announced the new dates. "The weather conditions were not conducive so we did not take any risk and next year a full-strength West Indies team will play three Twenty20 matches on March 29, 31 and April 1," said Sethi at a press conference. A combination of smoke and fog has paralysed daily life in Lahore, and also threatened the staging of Twenty20 Internationals. Pakistan had hoped three-match series would further help them revive international cricket in their country, where foreign teams have been refusing to tour over security fears for eight years. International cricket was suspended in Pakistan after terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009, which killed eight people and injured several players. Pakistan hosted Zimbabwe for a limited over series in 2015 followed by the staging of the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Twenty20 series with a World XI ? both this year. Last month Sri Lanka became the first high profile team to play a Twenty20 international match in Lahore. Sethi said the PCB and Cricket West Indies have agreed to play Twenty20 series for five years. "Pakistan and West Indies boards have signed an agreement to play a series of T20 each year for the next five years, first in Pakistan and then in the United States subject to the availability of the venue and dates," said Sethi. A third team will also be invited to the USA for a tri-series, said Sethi.
  14. Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen speaks during a news conference after a two-day Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) policy meeting in Washington, US, September 20, 2017. REUTERS/Joshua Roberts/Files WASHINGTON: Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen will depart as head of the world?s most powerful central bank after four years, during which she has put the U.S. economy on a much firmer footing and steered monetary policy away from the crisis era. Yellen, who in 2014 became the first woman to lead the Fed in its 100-year history, was passed over on Thursday for a second term by President Donald Trump, in a break with past practice. When the New York-born economist, 71, hands over the reins to her successor, Fed Governor Jerome Powell, early next year, she will do so as the first leader of a major central bank since the 2007-2009 financial crisis to have put interest rates on what, so far, has been a sustainable upward path. Yellen presided over the first rate rise in almost a decade, a move that was followed by three more hikes during her tenure. The Fed is expected to raise rates again in December. Nominated by then-President Barack Obama to succeed Ben Bernanke, Yellen also spearheaded the end of the Fed?s bond-buying program initiated to stimulate the economy after the crisis and the start of the gradual reduction of its $4.5 trillion balance sheet this year. ?I don?t know how you could fault it,? said Joseph Gagnon, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics who worked at the Fed for two decades. ?She is a very polished, careful, respected leader. Markets have been as smooth as possible and we?ve never seen such stable and consistent jobs growth for so long.? Investors comfortably digested the announcement this year that the Fed would cut its holdings of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities, unlike the 2013 ?taper tantrum? that followed Bernanke?s hint that the bond-buying program might be curbed. On Yellen?s watch, unemployment in the United States has fallen to 4.2 percent from 6.7 percent, and the economy has been growing for more than eight years, albeit at a much slower pace than in previous recoveries from a recession. She won praise for spotting risks in the housing market in 2007, before many of her colleagues, according to minutes from Fed policy meetings at the time, and for keeping rates at historically low levels until the job market had healed. And at a time when the world?s central bankers are increasingly viewed as out-of-touch technocrats, Yellen also highlighted the risks of rising inequality, even at the cost of stirring criticism from Republicans in Congress for a perceived overreach. ?I think it is appropriate to ask whether this trend is compatible with values rooted in our nation?s history,? Yellen said in a speech on economic opportunity in 2014. It hasn?t all gone to plan. Yellen and other Fed policymakers had forecast a far more rapid rise in rates, and she and others have been faulted for being unable to boost inflation, which has repeatedly undershot the central bank?s 2 percent target despite a tight job market. No grey suit Known for her fierce intellect, vigorous preparation and attention to detail, Yellen has held various positions at the Fed, White House and in academia. She was the only woman among 21 PhDs in economics granted by Yale University in 1971 and brought an academic?s desire to educate and inform into her career as a central banker. ?When she answers a question, she really wants you to understand,? said Andrew Rose, a longtime friend and fellow professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where Yellen taught for a number of years. He recalled that ?her view was that she?d rather have her students understand two-thirds of the material completely than all of it superficially.? Those characteristics stood Yellen in good stead at the Fed at a time when many of the assumptions of central bank policymaking - on inflation, productivity, investment and wages - had come into question. Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, who has sat on the rate-setting committee for the last 10 years, described Yellen?s ?winning? style as someone who ?listens to everybody, let?s people talk things out, provides the leadership that is needed at the right time but making sure everyone has a chance to contribute.? It may, however, have been Yellen?s forthrightness that ended any chance for a second term as Fed chief. Despite the Trump administration?s push for financial deregulation, she has steadfastly maintained that most of the rules put in place to prevent another financial crisis should remain. As Trump intensified his focus on the nomination in August, Yellen sent a clear message to Congress and the White House. ?Memories ... may be fading ? memories of just how costly the financial crisis was and why certain steps were taken,? Yellen said in a speech at a global central banking conference. ?Any adjustments to the regulatory framework should be modest.? Yellen is entitled to remain as a Fed governor until 2024, though previous central bank chiefs have traditionally not stayed on the board once a successor was in place.

  16. MALAKAND: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his party will put the country?s institutions on the right track after winning the next general elections. The PTI chief was addressing a ceremony at Malakand university. Imran Khan said that the supremacy of law strengthens institutions. While presenting the example of Khyber pakhtunkhwa police, Imran said that people fear police in Sindh and Punjab, but the crime rate has dropped by 70 percent. ?AD Khawaja said that Sindh needs police similar to that of KP,? said the PTI chief. Imran said that the police in KP became better when the IG was appointed on the basis of merit. Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sent the non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran Khan to SSP operations. The warrant directs SSP Operations Islamabad to arrest Imran Khan and produce him before the commission on October 26 at 10 AM. The warrant which lists Khan?s Bani Gala and the PTI?s Central Office addresses states that the PTI chairman is charged with contempt of Election Commission of Pakistan under section 103-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976.
  17. While a majority of us are always concerned about losing weight, there are people who are looking to put on a few kilos. People who are genetically ectomorphs usually have a tough time gaining weight and putting on muscle mass. After spending some time in the gym, they fall prey to 'desi' gym trainers who drive them into using mass gainers and eventually steroids. To gain weight, all you need is a well-structured diet with a few high-calorie foods. Below are 4 such foods. 1) Rice (c) Thinkstock The most easily accessible food on the list and can be prepared without any hassles at home. Also, it's not necessary to consume only brown rice, even white is fine. The only major difference between the two is the fibre content, which is high in brown rice. Rice takes only around 15 minutes to be cooked. One cup of cooked rice is around 150 grams and provides around 40 grams of carbs yielding around 180 calories. Such a high percentage of carbs and high calories make rice a perfect food for anyone who wants to gain weight. 2) Nuts (Nut Butter) (c) Thinkstock Nuts are dense in calories and come in handy as an 'anytime snack'. You can carry them easily with you in a small container and they have a very long shelf life. The best part about nuts is that they provide you all the three macros- Fats, Carbs and protein. Fats in nuts are the essential fats that your body needs to obtain from outside sources. Nut Butter like peanut butter and almond butter are also a good choice to include in your diet but don't overdo them. The only thing to keep in mind is that nut butter should be preferably free from artificial flavours and sugars. 3) Starchy Vegetables and Carbs (c) Thinkstock The quality of starchy vegetables is that they are calorie dense. 4) Cheese (c) Thinkstock Since seventy percent of all the cheese is fat, this makes it a high-calorie food. Another advantage of cheese is that it has good taste and can be added to a variety of dishes. Fat has 9 calories per gram which is more than one gram of carb and one gram of protein taken together. Therefore, including a small amount of cheese in your diet is a smart move if you want to increase your caloric intake. You don't need to spend a fortune to gain weight. Your primary target should be to increase your daily caloric intake and enter a surplus zone. Neither should you have a high protein diet. Concentrate on a moderate protein, moderate fat and high carb diet. Effort should be made to avoid carbs that are artificially flavored and processed.
  18. So you think you crush leg day? You think you are the king of squats? If you've answered yes, then maybe it's time to put your glorious legs to the test. No, it's not a squat or lunge challenge, it's a crawling challenge and it will kick your ass, thoroughly. Crawls don't get the attention they deserve for the gains they can get you. Also, doing these exercises will definitely spice up your leg workout a bit too. Mind you, traditional leg workouts cannot be replaced but there are certain crawling movements that challenge the core and give your legs hell, that they end up screaming in pain and get sore the next day. Before we go ahead with the list, let's look at the benefits of crawls. 1. Increased Coordination Basic crawling patterns train the coordination between your upper and lower body, which is important for every single physical activity you do. 2. Increased Kinesthetic Awareness Crawling also trains your central nervous system, increasing your kinesthetic awareness and core control. 3. Improved Flexibility & Core Stability A lot of the flexibility issues that people experience are not necessarily due to the tightness of specific muscle tissues, but rather a stability issue in the core. In other words, because people lack core stability, the nervous system limits the range of motion in specific parts of the body. It's a protective mechanism. 4. Improved Walking Gait Crawling is also the foundation of our walking gait, which is a very good functional exercise we do on a daily basis. In general, active people walk a lot daily, so it's vital that you have proper bio-mechanics to avoid injuries. Doing crawling exercises can help you pinpoint certain problems with your walking pattern, and over time help to make you a better, more efficient walker. Here we go! 1) Bear Crawl © YouTube This exercise loads you on your hands and feet, and it's really a great intermediate level exercise. Keep the spine neutral and hips slightly above shoulders. Start on your hands and feet, lifting your knees off the ground. Keep your back long by pacing your shoulders and pushing your chest forward. Keeping your knees off the ground, slowly crawl forward, moving the opposite arm-and-leg at the same time. 2) Lizard Crawl © vahvafitness The lizard crawl is an advanced crawling pattern. This variation needs both stability and mobility in the two joints, i.e. the hips and shoulders. Start in a similar position to the bear crawl. As you bring your foot forward, drop the hips and chest so that they are close to the ground. Instead of simultaneous hand-foot movement, in this exercise you move your foot forward first, then your hand. Stay low to the ground and keep your spine long as you slowly crawl forward. 3) Crab Walk © Thinkstock Sit with your legs bent and slightly spread, with your feet on the ground. Place your hands on the ground behind you, fingertips facing forward. Lift your hips & glutes off the ground, holding yourself up on your hands and feet. Pedal yourself forward, backward. 4) Inchworm © Thinkstock Start standing, then bend forward and place your hands on the ground, as close to your toes as possible. Walk your hands forward with tiny steps, leaving your feet where they are, until you are in a plank position with your arms extended forward as far as possible. Next, walk your feet in to your hands, leaving your hands where they are, until you end in a forward bend again. This is a great exercise for the core as well as challenges the legs and gives it a great burn. 5) Gorilla Crawl © YouTube The Gorilla crawl is a great crawling variation to work your legs and core. To do the Gorilla crawl, start standing with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart. Then bend over and reach your hands out to the ground in front of you. You will shift your weight forward to your hands on the ground and then jump your feet forward outside your hands. Once you've jumped your feet close to the outside your hands, you will again stretch your hands out and place them in front of you on the ground before jumping your feet back, outside your hands. 21. WASHINGTON: Swamped by too much raw intel data to sift through, US spy agencies are pinning their hopes on artificial intelligence to crunch billions of digital bits and understand events around the world. Dawn Meyerriecks, the Central Intelligence Agency's deputy director for technology development, said this week the CIA currently has 137 different AI projects, many of them with developers in Silicon Valley. These range from trying to predict significant future events, by finding correlations in data shifts and other evidence, to having computers tag objects or individuals in video that can draw the attention of intelligence analysts. Officials of other key spy agencies at the Intelligence and National Security Summit in Washington this week, including military intelligence, also said they were seeking AI-based solutions for turning terabytes of digital data coming in daily into trustworthy intelligence that can be used for policy and battlefield action. Social media focus AI has widespread functions, from battlefield weapons to the potential to help quickly rebuild computer systems and programs brought down by hacking attacks, as one official described. But a major focus is finding useful patterns in valuable sources like social media. Combing social media for intelligence in itself is not new, said Joseph Gartin, head of the CIA's Kent School, which teaches intelligence analysis. "What is new is the volume and velocity of collecting social media data," he said. In that example, artificial intelligence-based computing can pick out key words and names but also find patterns in data and correlations to other events -- and continually improve on that pattern finding. AI can "expand the aperture" of an intelligence operation looking for small bits of information that can prove valuable, according to Chris Hurst, the chief operating officer of Stabilitas, which contracts with the US intelligence community on intel analysis. "Human behavior is data and AI is a data model," he said at the Intelligence Summit. "Where there are patterns we think AI can do a better job." Eight million analysts The volume of data that can be collected increases exponentially with advances in satellite and signals intelligence collection technology. "If we were to attempt to manually exploit the commercial satellite imagery we expect to have over the next 20 years, we would need eight million imagery analysts," Robert Cardillo, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, said in a speech in June. Cardillo said his goal is to automate 75 percent of analysts' tasks, with a hefty reliance on AI operations that can build on what they learn automatically. Washington's spies are not the only ones turning to AI for future advantage: Russian President Vladimir Putin declared last week that artificial intelligence is a key for power in the future. "Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world," he said, according to Russian news agencies. The challenge, US officials said, is gaining trust from the "consumers" of their intelligence product -- like policy makers, the White House and top generals -- to trust reports that have a significant AI component. "We produce a presidential daily brief. We have to have really, really good evidence for why we reach the conclusions that we do," said Meyerriecks. "You can't go to leadership and make a recommendation based on a process that no one understands."
  22. No dog deserves to die. Not a single one! After medical tests revealed that Hunter the German Shepherd was suffering from an aggressive form of liver cancer, veterinarians recommended that he be put to sleep. So, after a lifetime of service to Connecticut's Middletown Police Department, Hunter said a final farewell to all of his friends. © Middletown Police Department - Connecticut/Facebook Hunter led an extraordinary life and was obviously treated to an equally incredible goodbye. Officer Michael D'Aresta, Hunter's handler of 10 years, carried him to the hospital last week. The whole walkway to the hospital was filled with fellow officers and police workers to salute this hero and to show appreciation for his 10 years of dedication to the department, where he helped to find missing people, sniff out drugs and apprehend suspects. © Middletown Police Department - Connecticut/Facebook The police department shared the heart-breaking pictures of Hunter's final moments on their Facebook page, where D'Aresta can be seen burying his head into his canine partner's fur. On the post, the department wrote that it was “the toughest decision any K-9 handler dreads making,” and it was an extremely difficult time for D'Aresta and his family. To honour him, the police department even changed their profile picture to this on Facebook : RIP Hunter.
  23. Christian Bale is one of the most dedicated actors out there. He is quite well-known for going to great lengths to transform himself for his movie roles. To play the role of drug-addict Dicky Eklund in ‘The Fighter' he shed the pounds big time, but that was nothing compared to the lengths he went to while preparing for 2003's ‘The Machinist'. © Paramount Pictures His famous skeletal frame for that movie was achieved through a diet of "water, an apple and one cup of coffee per day, with the occasional whiskey." Apparently after losing about 30kgs, he wanted to go even further, but producers had to stop him because he could have died. And, then 6 months after that, he was playing the lead role in ‘Batman Begins' for which he had to bulk up big time. With a high-protein diet and regime involving heavy-core, plyometrics and resistance training, he packed on a whopping 45kgs, only for Christopher Nolan to turn around and tell him to lose about 10 because he'd got a bit too fat. © Warner Bros Now, he has gone and done it again. Christian Bale debuted a plumper look over the weekend at the Telluride Film Festival, where he premiered his upcoming movie ‘Hostiles'. He looks unrecognizable now as he prepares to portray former US Vice President Dick Cheney in an up-coming bio pic. He has even dyed his eyebrows blond to emulate the politician. © Twitter The biopic is called ‘Backseat', and will focus on how Cheney's politics “changed the world.” It also stars Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, Sam Rockwell as former President George W. Bush, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld and Bill Pullman as Nelson Rockefeller. © Twitter Seems like quite a complicated role, but if there's anyone who can pull it off and make the film memorable, it's Christian.
  24. XIAMEN: China wants to put its relationship with India on the ?right track?, President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, as the two countries sought to mend ties damaged by a recent tense Himalayan border standoff. The meeting was the first between the two leaders since Chinese and Indian troops ended a standoff in the Doklam border region about a week ago that was the neighbours? most serious military confrontation in decades. Talks between Xi and Modi had been in question before the de-escalation, which came just in time for China to host the BRICS summit of emerging economies, which also includes Brazil, Russia and South Africa, in the southeastern city of Xiamen. Healthy, stable ties were in the interests of both countries, Xi told Modi in a meeting on the sidelines of the summit, according to a statement from China?s foreign ministry. ?China is willing to work with India ... to increase political trust, advance mutually beneficial cooperation and promote the further development of China-India relations along the correct path,? Xi said. ?China and India must maintain the fundamental determination that each other constitute mutual development opportunities and do not constitute a mutual threat,? Xi said, adding that peaceful, cooperative relations were the ?only correct choice?. Xi and Modi spoke for more than an hour and the discussions were ?constructive?, Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told reporters in Xiamen after the meeting. ?There was a sense that if the relationship is to go forward, then peace and tranquility on the border area should be maintained,? Jaishankar said, adding that both sides agreed that strong contacts between their defense personnel were needed to prevent another border incident. ?On both sides there was a sense that more efforts need to be made to ensure that these kinds of situations don?t reoccur.? Pressed on how the Doklam dispute was discussed, Jaishankar said, ?Both of us know what happened. This was not a backwards looking conversation. This was a forward-looking conversation.? Hundreds of troops were deployed on the Doklam plateau, near the borders of India, its ally Bhutan, and China after New Delhi objected to China building a road through the mountainous area. The quiet diplomacy that ultimately ended in de-escalation was based on a principle of stopping ?differences becoming disputes? that Modi and Xi had agreed at a June meeting in Astana, an Indian official has said. Still, China and India remain divided on many fronts, including India?s deep suspicions of China?s growing military activities in and around the Indian Ocean. For its part, Modi?s government has upset China with its public embrace of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, whom the Chinese regard as a dangerous separatist, and growing military ties with the United States and Japan. China has said its forces will continue to patrol in Doklam, which is claimed by Bhutan, and that it hoped India had learned a lesson from the incident.
  25. Former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf DUBAI: Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has said that in Pakistan, military rulers put the country on the correct track while the civilian governments derail it from the right path. In an interview with BBC Urdu, Musharraf said, ?Whenever martial laws were imposed in Pakistan it was the need of the hour.? ?Whether it is democracy, dictatorship, communism, socialism or a kingdom, it does not make any difference for the people of the country as citizens need only progress and prosperity, employment and security,? he asserted. The former president went on to say, ?If we compare the past records of civilian and military governments, Pakistan always progressed during dictatorship regimes.? Commenting on the separation of East Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 1971, Musharraf said, ?Bhutto (Zulfikar Ali Bhutto) not the military was responsible for the fall of Dhaka. Gen Yahya Khan was also accused of it in some way but during the 10 years of Gen Ayub Khan's regime, Pakistan witnessed record progress.? To a question, the former military ruler said: ?Ousting the government is only the right of the masses, however, the situation in Pakistan is absolutely different. This right is exercised when there are a check and balance in the Constitution. People themselves come to the military to get rid of the civilian governments. People also came to me to do so ? and I took over the civilian government on their demand.? ?While protecting the Constitution, we can?t destroy the nation, however, the Constitution can be slightly ignored for protecting the nation.? Musharraf said the case against him under Article 6 is inappropriate. The general blamed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif of a ?total sale out policy? towards India. To another question pertaining to the assistance in his exit from Pakistan, Musharraf said, ?I remained the army chief and I believe the army will always consider my welfare.?
