On December 10, the FIA arrested four suspects in a similar ATM skimming fraud. The FIA said that in the scandal, shopping mall cashiers were also found involved. Two suspects used to gather data from shopping malls, while the other two were involved in the scam from China online. The investigation was launched when more than 500 consumers of banks across Pakistan complained to the authority regarding the scandal. The FIA is probing the matter under the Cyber Crimes Act. The highest number of incidents of ATM skimming took place at a major shopping mall in Karachi's Clifton area.
  2. KARACHI: A case was filed late Friday night over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old minor girl in the city's Zafar Town area, police sources disclosed. Speaking to the media, the victim's father explained that he received a call while at work wherein his family informed him of his daughter's "critical condition". The girl's father added that once he had informed the police of the incident, he took his daughter to Jinnah Hospital for immediate medical treatment. The minor girl was sexually assaulted on Thursday in Zafar Town of the metropolis' Landhi locale.

A break-up of registered cases against human traffickers showed that a total of 4,096 cases were filed in 2016, of which 3,349 were in Punjab, 140 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 77 in Sindh, 181 in Balochistan, and 349 cases in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Similarly, a total of 3,334 cases were registered during 2017, of which 2,784 were in Punjab, 85 in KP, 82 in Sindh, 59 in Balochistan, and 324 cases in ICT. The total number of persons arrested and involved in human trafficking during 2016 and 2017 were 4,233 and 3,148, respectively. Of the aggregates, 3,635 were arrested in Punjab, 138 in KP, 29 in Sindh, 11 in Balochistan, and 420 in ICT as opposed to 2,746, 69, 31, 4, and 298, respectively. When contacted regarding action taken against traffickers and agents involved in the Turbat incident ? in which 15 persons lost their lives recently ? sources at the Interior Division said Thursday that a video was uploaded on social media on November 15, 2017, regarding the murder of 15 innocent Pakistani nationals in Turbat, Balochistan. The deceased were from different districts of Gujranwala, Punjab, and were en route to cross the Pak-Iran border illegally, with the facilitation of local and cross-border human smugglers to Europe via a land route passing through Iran, Turkey, and Greece. Later, the sources said the same video was telecast in electronic media. The FIA took immediate action and initiated legal proceedings against the human smugglers and other suspects involved in this incident. After three days, on November 18, another media report was run, according to which five more innocent persons were killed by unknown murderers in Balochistan's Kech District. These people were also from Gujranwala and were being smuggled to Europe via the same route. The sources said the FIA's Gujranwala and Gujrat branches immediately contacted the bereaved, discovering during preliminary interrogation the fact that local agents took the deceased to Quetta on October 31 via a bus from Gujrat. It was further disclosed by their families that the deceased were then to be taken to Iran. Other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and intelligence agencies have also been taken onboard to finalize the investigation. As the call date records (CDRs), VeriSys and locations of the victims' mobiles, and the agents involved are being compared and analyzed, 14 Iranian agents have also been identified. Letters have been issued to the Interpol and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for contacting the Iranian authorities for apprehending the 14 agents based in the neighbouring countries. LEAs and other authorities are sharing valuable information as and when received.

  5. Bollywood?s Dabangg Khan, Salman Kham, always seems to find himself in one controversy or another. In a latest twist, reports have emerged that a woman has filed a case against Khan?s bodyguard Shera for threatening her. The woman, who identifies herself as Shabnam Sheikh, claimed that Shera threatened her to gang rape her if she didn?t settle the Bigg Boss 11 contestant, Zubair Khan's case, according to Indian media. The police are currently investigating the matter. On the other hand, Shera denied the charges and claimed that he has never spoken to Shabnam. Bigg Boss 11 participant Zubair Khan had filed a case against show?s host, Salman, claiming that Salman threatened him that he would not be able to work in the industry anymore once he leaves the house. According to the complaint, Salman made statements like ?I will make you my dog. Will see you after you leave the home.? The complaint has been registered at one of the police stations in Mumbai.
  6. LAHORE: A case was registered Thursday night in the Kahna police station for the murder of a political party worker that took place a day earlier in the same area, police sources revealed. The case ? filed for the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Malik alias Shaukat Khokhar ? accuses 10 suspects over charges of attempted murder, terrorism, and consultation pertaining to the murder, Geo News reported. Local PTI leader shot dead in Lahore Two others including his brother were injured when unidentified suspects opened fire Khokhar was shot dead Wednesday as he supervised construction work at his Dera, while two others ? including his brother Irshad and a servant ? were wounded when unidentified suspects opened fire on them in Kahna. Following the incident, Shaukat's family staged a protest at the Shaukat Khanum intersection, placed the deceased's body on the road, and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. In addition, the grieving family also asked the Punjab chief minister to take notice of the incident. Police said Khokhar had old enmity with the Ghulam Mustafa Group.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday took notice of a 'fake' Intelligence Bureau (IB) memo which claimed there were links between parliamentarians and proscribed organisations, sources informed Geo News. In the memo, shown on a private TV channel, it was stated that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed the authority to monitor the activities of 37 legislators due to their alleged links with banned terrorist and sectarian outfits. Sources within government claimed that the memo shown on tv and being circulated on social media was fake, further adding that after a thorough investigation a case will be filed against those involved in drafting the memo and leaking it to the media. The source added that the case will be filed in Islamabad's Secretariat police station. The issue was first raised by Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada at the recently held cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The list named a number of key ministers, including Riaz Pirzada, Zahid Hamid, Baleeghur Rehman, Sikandar Bosan, Hafiz Abdul Kareem and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
  8. ISLAMABAD: A case was registered against DIG Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday after his former wife alleged that he blackmailed her by uploading her ?objectionable? pictures on social media. DIG GB Junaid Arshad is accused of blackmailing his former wife with the help of his friend Danish Ghani, according to the complaint filed by the wife. Sources said that the suspect did not present himself despite the summons issued to him. A raid was carried out for Arshad?s arrest but he already obtained a pre-arrest bail. The case was registered by the Federal Investigation Agency?s cyber-crime wing.
  9. ISLAMABAD: An FIR was registered on Monday, upon the directives of the Supreme Court, against Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) chairman for tampering official records. Acting upon the apex court?s orders, the Federal Investigation Agency filed the case in the Special Investigation Unit. The FIA had identified SECP Chairman Zafar Hijazi as the culprit behind changing official records of the Chaudhry Sugar Mills, owned by the Sharif family, to help their case. The criminal case was registered against Hijazi under sections 466 and 471 of Pakistan Penal Code. Section 466 suggests a seven-year imprisonment and fine for those who forge a legal document, while Section 471 punishes in the same manner for using as genuine a forged document. Geo News obtained a copy of the FIR. The SECP chairman?s lawyer confessed before the court that the tampering was done 10 months ago. On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers barged into Rehman Baba grid station. The workers, under the leadership of PTI MPA Fazal Elahi, entered the station and opened the closed feeders on their own, which led to restoration of electricity more than 100 nearby places.   11. QUETTA: Police registered a case over the kidnapping of foreign nationals, who were abducted from Quetta?s Jinnah Town on Wednesday. The case, which has been registered by Jinnah Town police station SHO, includes charges of kidnapping and terrorism. Moreover, a three-member investigation team under the leadership of DIG Counter-Terrorism Department has been formed to probe the case, informed Inspector General of Police Balochistan Ahsan Mehboob. The team also includes SSP Investigation and SP Saddar. Two foreign nationals kidnapped from Quetta The husband and wife were working at a Korean language centre since the last year Police has collaborated with other law enforcement agencies for safe recovery of the kidnapped Chinese nationals, remarked the IGP. A Chinese couple were kidnapped while they were eating food at a local eatery Wednesday afternoon. The husband and wife, identified as Li Zang Hing and Ming Leassi Ha, were working at a Korean centre nearby Jinnah Town and had been teaching Korean language to the area residents for more than a year.
  12. KARACHI: A case for the Rangers encounter with terrorists in the Urdu Bazaar vicinity in Karachi was registered on Wednesday. Four terrorists, including a woman, were killed and four paramilitary personnel injured in an hours-long gunfight between Rangers and militants holed up inside a residential building in the Karachi's Urdu Bazar vicinity late Monday. In fresh raids on Tuesday, law enforcers detained abettors of the terrorists as well. Rangers' inspector Muhammad Umar, in the case, elaborated that the terrorists, seated in a taxi, opened fire on the paramilitary force upon its arrival at Mariam Center located on Rattan Talao road. The terrorists took off on foot following the exchange of fire. The escapees include Fazal Gani AKA Shafee, Abdullah, Mansoor AKA Bilal, and Rafeeq AKA Abdullah. According to the Rangers' officer, the accused threw hand grenades from the window after the security force climbed the stairs. Six people including four Rangers personnel were injured due to the attack. A three-month-old girl who was with the terrorists was also killed in the operation, Rangers said. According to Rangers, a militant, believed to belong to the Lashkar-e-Jhanvi banned outfit, who was earlier arrested from Ittehad Town had given information related to Bazar where his accomplices were present. The miscreants attacked paramilitary personnel with hand grenades and opened fire on them as soon as they arrived at the location. The exchange of fire continued for nearly seven hours, during which the terrorists carried out at least three explosions and lobbed several hand grenades on the paramilitary soldiers. Three of the terrorists blew themselves up while one was killed by the Rangers while he was trying to escape. The dead included a woman and a three-month-old child, who the Rangers spokesperson said were present inside the house with terrorists. Three of the deceased have been identified as Muhammad Zahid, Naeem Achakzai and Hameed, between the ages of 30 and 45. Naeem belonged to Peshawar and was driving a taxi in the city. Hameed was living in the apartment with his wife and daughter, both of whom were also killed during the operation. Four Rangers personnel were also wounded in the episode. The building, where the miscreants had taken refuge, and nearby properties were evacuated as the exchange of fire began between the two sides. The residential building lies besieged, while nearby streets have also been sealed off as the paramilitary personnel and police have been searching the vicinity for any other miscreants left. The deceased terrorists could not be immediately identified. However, later, the incharge of counter-terrorism department, Raja Umer Khitab, said the terrorists likely belonged to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Jundallah group. Sources informed Geo News the miscreants had been planning a major terror attack in the city. The operation went on for around seven hours, after which Rangers cleared the apartment and handed it over to the police. When asked, residents of the area told Geo News the terrorists were living in the building for the past two to three months. It was learnt that the apartment belonged to a tea man who had given the place to his relatives. Note: An earlier version of this story reported the child as a five-year-old girl.
