  1. During his playing days, Virender Sehwag was undeniably a force to be reckoned with. His unorthodox batting technique allowed him to hammer the opposition bowlers all around the park. And, even after calling time on his career, Sehwag continues to be a dominant force on social media with his wit and humour. But, while he may have retired from international cricket, Sehwag clearly hasn't forgotten the art of batting. His genius with the willow was once again on full display during the unique Ice Cricket tournament in Switzerland. Taking on Shahid Afridi-led Royals XI, the 'Nawab of Najafgarh' turned back the clock and took the fans to his yesteryears where he once reigned supreme. Despite the bone-chilling conditions in the backdrop of breathtaking Alpine range in the resort town of St Moritz, the 39-year-old created a unique record of scoring the first four and six of the first of its kind tournament. And, if that wasn't enough, Sehwag went on to etch his name in the history books as the first-ever cricketer to score a fifty in the Ice Cricket tournament. There was a reason why 90's people used to say - "Sehwag ki batting dekh kar chalte hain" @virendersehwag ðªðª#IceCricket pic.twitter.com/i1j41KezwD — Prashant Pareek (@prashan235) February 8, 2018 After deciding to bat first, Palace Diamonds got off to a roaring start, following a flabbergasting rendition of masterful strokeplay by their captain Sehwag who smashed a 31-ball 62 including four majestic fours and five towering sixes. In the end, it was his old nemesis Shoaib Akhtar who put an end to Sehwag's blazing innings. Hathiyar chhode hain ,chalana nahi bhoole hain :) Great fun on the ice. pic.twitter.com/V1bjFATGnI — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 8, 2018 Following his outing in temperatures below zero degrees, Sehwag took to Twitter and posted a brilliant one-liner about his knock. "Hathiyar chhode hain ,chalana nahi bhoole hain :) Great fun on the ice," he tweeted. @virendersehwag .. kya baat kaha Viru... — Sourav Ganguly (@SGanguly99) February 8, 2018 The post garnered a massive response from the fans and it even evoked a response from Sourav Ganguly. Impressed with Viru's comment, Ganguly replied: "kya baat kaha Viru". Here's what the twitterverse had to say after witnessing Sehwag back in action: Kya baat hai Paji..sher toh sher hai. 3. After taking a 1-0 lead in the six-match One-Day International (ODI) series, the Indian cricket team once again proved why they are one of the most ruthless sides in limited-overs cricket following their nine-wicket triumph in the second match against South Africa. Opting to bat first, the Indian wrist spinners bamboozled the out-of-sorts Proteas, restricting them to a lowly total of 118 runs. In reply, Shikhar Dhawan (51*) Virat Kohli (46) ensured India notched up their target with nine wickets and 177 balls to spare. But, despite India's heroics, something else grabbed all the limelight. With India just two runs short of their target in Centurion, the fans were left bemused after umpires decided to call lunch. Despite the result being a foregone conclusion, play stopped for about 40 minutes and the Centurion crowd had thinned out considerably before the game resumed. Cricket is bloody bonkers ... Lunch break taken with 2 runs required for Victory ... Surely common sense comes into play !!!!!!!!! #SAvsIND — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) February 4, 2018 Echoing similar sentiments, Virender Sehwag aka 'Troll King' took a dig at the on-field umpires in the way he knows best. Taking to Twitter, the former Indian opener compared the match officials with the employees of Indian Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks. Umpires treating Indian batsmen like PSU Bank treat customers. Lunch ke baad aana #INDvSA — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 4, 2018 “Umpires treating Indian batsmen like PSU Bank treat customers. Lunch ke baad aana,” Sehwag tweeted after witnessing this bizarre scene. Since then, his tweet has been shared more than seven thousand times. Sehwag's tweet did leave his fans in splits following his uncanny comparison, but it also irked a few PSU bank employees who didn't shy away from hitting back at the 'Nawab of Najafgarh'. Sir....bura maan Gaya main....I alwez..alwezzzz. saw ur matches @ Mohali....nd I'm a PSU bank officer...nd have alwez treated customers to their expectations...ðð — atul thakur (@atulthakur22) February 4, 2018 "Sir....bura maan Gaya main....I alwez..alwezzzz. saw ur matches @ Mohali....nd I'm a PSU bank officer...nd have alwez treated customers to their expectations," a PSU bank employee replied on Twitter. Bura na maan bhai. Tu exception hai. Most Sarkaari banks , infact most sarkaari departments don't care for the common man. The attitude is like Maai Baap , as if they are doing a favour if they do their job. https://t.co/CRfkuSQCEb — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 5, 2018 Fuelling the friendly banter, Sehwag replied: "Bura na maan bhai. Tu exception hai. Most Sarkaari banks , infact most sarkaari departments don't care for the common man. The attitude is like Maai Baap , as if they are doing a favour if they do their job". I work in PSU bank. We never ask our customers to come after lunchtime. — reshmi aneesh (@reshmikarottu) February 5, 2018 Another PSU bank employee didn't take Viru's words kindly before tweeting: "I work in PSU bank. We never ask our customers to come after lunchtime". You are also an exception. Apart from lunch most others also have the excuse of server kharaab, printer nahi chal raha. Unfortunately hasn't changed in most sarkaari departments https://t.co/faeYzdyRBy — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 5, 2018 Replying to her, Sehwag also labelled her as an exception and said: "You are also an exception. Apart from lunch most others also have the excuse of server kharaab, printer nahi chal raha. Unfortunately hasn't changed in most sarkaari departments".
  4. Ever since the retirement of MS Dhoni from the longest format, Indian selectors and Captain Virat Kohli have put their faith in Wriddhiman Saha, making him their first-choice wicket-keeper in Test cricket. But, despite Saha's wicket-keeping record in the first Test, his failure with the willow at Newlands saw him getting axed for the second Test. Saha's loss quickly became Parthiv Patel's gain as the latter found his way back into Test cricket after almost four years. While it was surely an opportunity for Patel to impress his skipper and the selectors in a bid to cement his spot, there is no denying that a slip-up would bring the century-old jokes on Patel back on the social media. In act, ahead of the second Test in Centurion, former Indian cricketer and 'Twitter King' Virender Sehwag targeted Patel even before his selection was confirmed. Few days back, Sehwag shared a photo a picture of two chappattis which were shaped in the form of gloves. नठनवà¥à¤²à¥ दà¥à¤²à¥à¤¹à¤¨ à¤à¤¯à¥z पति बà¥à¤²à¤¾ à¤à¤ªà¤¨à¥ हाथ à¤à¥ रà¥à¤à¥ बना à¤à¥ à¤à¤¿à¤²à¤¾à¤ । pic.twitter.com/9CG0LoGUlN — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) January 10, 2018 He also captioned the image with a funny one-liner in Hindi that read: "A husband asked his newly-wedded bride to cook him a meal using her own hands". However, in a funny dig at Parthiv, Sehwag said: "Nikke @parthiv9 , Bhai wicket keeping gloves hain wahaan ya bhejoon!". Idhar meri perfect size wale bahut gloves le ke aaya hu.. ise udhar hi rakhe aap..delhi mai thand Badh gayi hai to ghar me kisi ke Kaam aaynege... — parthiv patel (@parthiv9) January 10, 2018 In reply, Parthiv, himself, fired a witty comment at Sehwag saying: "Idhar meri perfect size wale bahut gloves le ke aaya hu.. ise udhar hi rakhe aap..delhi mai thand Badh gayi hai to ghar me kisi ke Kaam aaynege". While it was all fun and games back then, the present-day scenario is completely different. The pocket-sized attacking wicket-keeper batsman has struggled to score runs, while his glovework behind the stumps is absolutely shambolic. While many would have expected the Gujarat cricketer to come good, Patel, so far, has only managed to score 19 runs alongside several dropped catches behind the stumps. © Reuters If Patel was not already the subject of immense criticism, his exploits on Day 3 at the SuperSport Park left his captain Virat Kohli, teammate Jasprit Bumrah and a whole lot of fans baffled. In the 25th over of South Africa's second innings, Bumrah created a chance against Dean Elgar, who edged one of his deliveries behind the stumps. But, to the sheer horror of Indian fans, Patel didn't even attempt to catch the ball. When I die I want Parthiv Patel to lower me into my grave so he can let me down one last time -Kohli#SAvIND pic.twitter.com/zIs26oKQWD — ambar_hitmanð (@ambar_hitman) January 15, 2018 What was more frustrating to see for the fans, was the fact that instead of realising his mistake, he immediately pointed towards Cheteshwar Pujara at the first slip and suggested that it was his catch. As a huge opportunity was missed, Bumrah and skipper Virat Kohli looked livid at Patel, who kept insisting it was a catch for the fielder at first slip. Sadly, it wasn't the only catch that Patel had dropped in the game. He had also failed to send Hashim Amla back into the hut after he edged one off Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling. Patel has been so poor that it beggared belief. In fact, former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar even claimed that he had never seen a Test match where Patel did not drop a catch. The folks on Twitter echoed similar sentiments against Patel who attracted more criticism on the micro-blogging website. After all, who knows those two chapattis - looking like gloves - might have helped him catch the ball because this lad is surely not catching them with regular ones. Given the present-day situation, we wonder what Viru must be thinking about tweeting now.
  5. During his playing days, Virender Sehwag neither had the luxury of proper footwork, nor he was technically sound like his other teammates. But, despite that, the Nawab of Najafgarh's simple philosophy of 'I see the ball, I hit the ball' served him pretty well during his career. The former Indian opener might have called time on his glorious career, but he continues to live by his unique philosophy. Just like his batting, Sehwag rarely lets go of an opportunity to poke fun at others on Twitter. In fact, he has been so successful that his tweets have earned him a reputation of one of the funniest Twitter users on the micro-blogging website. However, just like his batting, Sehwag has good days and bad ones on Twitter as well. Sometimes, he would absolutely massacre someone with his witty tweets, while on the other occasions; he tends to miss real bad as his targets would fire one back at him. A similar case came to the fore recently when Sehwag shared a funny tweet for his fans. नठनवà¥à¤²à¥ दà¥à¤²à¥à¤¹à¤¨ à¤à¤¯à¥z पति बà¥à¤²à¤¾ à¤à¤ªà¤¨à¥ हाथ à¤à¥ रà¥à¤à¥ बना à¤à¥ à¤à¤¿à¤²à¤¾à¤ । pic.twitter.com/9CG0LoGUlN — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) January 10, 2018 Taking to Twitter, Sehwag shared a picture of two chappattis which were shaped in the form of gloves. He also captioned the image with a funny one-liner in Hindi that read: "A husband asked his newly-wedded bride to cook him a meal using her own hands". Nikke @parthiv9 , Bhai wicket keeping gloves hain wahaan ya bhejoon ! https://t.co/qJe34WlEqh — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) January 10, 2018 While many cherished Sehwag's pun, the former Indian cricketer tried to add another funny angle to his tweet. In a bid to troll Parthiv Patel, he tweeted: "Nikke @parthiv9, Bhai wicket keeping gloves hain wahaan ya bhejoon!". However, Sehwag's tweet soon backfired after Parthiv came up with his own witty reply to silence the 39-year-old. "Idhar meri perfect size wale bahut gloves le ke aaya hu.. ise udhar hi rakhe aap..delhi mai thand Badh gayi hai to ghar me kisi ke Kaam aaynege," Parthiv replied. The conversation, filled with Sehwag's pun and Parthiv's comeback, left the fans in splits. 6. During his playing days, Virender Sehwag never cared about the match situation, the opposition or even the bowler at the other end. All he cared about was smashing the ball hard enough so that it sailed over the ropes. He always believed in scoring big and fast. And, most of the time, the Nawab of Najafgarh pretty much managed to do that. Almost five years after his retirement, Sehwag gave his fans something to cheer for when he returned to the cricket field in the highly-anticipated T10 League tournament. But, while many would have thought the former Indian cricketer would go hammer and tongs, the right-hander was undone by another veteran star without even opening his account. Pretty special pic in the context of regional politics - cricket transcending boundaries.. let's try to keep it this way...#T10League pic.twitter.com/cw7EFVdGC2 — Ramiz Raja (@iramizraja) December 14, 2017 Leading the Maratha Arabians, Sehwag failed to lift his team to victory and eventually lost against the Pakhtoons by 25 runs. While Sehwag and his team witnessed a nightmare on the opening night of the 10-over-a-side tournament, the Shahid Afridi-led Pakhtoons revelled in the heroics of their captain. The former Pakistani cricketer claimed a brilliant hat-trick in his first three balls in the tournament. Coming into the attack in the sixth over, the 37-year-old got Rilee Rossouw out caught at wide long-on to claim his first scalp of the game. On the very next delivery, he rapped Dwayne Bravo on the pads right in front of the stumps to make it two for two. On a hat-trick, Afridi faced fierce Sehwag but even he was unable to read the in-dipping slider before walking back into the hut with a duck against his name. Shahid Afridi hat-trick with his first three balls in T10. Rossouw, Dwayne Bravo, Sehwag. Obviously — Paul Radley (@PaulRadley) December 14, 2017 Alex Hales fought a lone battle for the Maratha Arabians with an unbeaten 57 off 26 balls but with only one other batsman from his team reaching the two-figure mark, the England batsman couldn't save his team who were reduced to just 96/7 in 10 overs. It's almost 2018 and Shahid Afridi is still the highlight of the night.. Lots of love @SAfridiOfficial.. Never change.. â¤ï¸ — Kukkoo (@LeenaAlvi) December 14, 2017 Adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant performance, Afridi was quizzed by Ramiz Raja during the presentation ceremony on creating the magic even at this age. "What do you mean still performing at this age, I am still young," said Afridi with a chuckle. Ever since T10 was announced there was a great buzz and anticipation around how the now -new shortest form of the game would be received ! Change being the only constant, we may be entering a new era of entertainment. Btw I still love test cricket ð — Ramiz Raja (@iramizraja) December 15, 2017 Despite the short format of the games, the smash-and-grab style tournament seems to have ignited some decent fanfare. Around 11,000 of the 14,500 seats at the Sharjah Cricket stadium were filled with fans who were eager and later elated to see the likes of Afridi and Sehwag mark their return to cricket.
  7. It's been over four years since one of India's most destructive batsmen, Virender Sehwag, bowed out of international cricket. But after hammering opposition bowlers all around the park, the former Indian opener seems to have found a new pitch as he continues to enthral his fans with his ever-entertaining wit off the field. From unique birthday wishes or hilarious comparisons, Sehwag has continued to get the better of the opposition with a potent mix of fun, puns, sarcasm and also, what is now being labelled as, just simple 'Sehwagasm'. On 12 December, the so-called Sehwagasm once again reigned supreme on social media after the former Indian opener tweeted his birthday wishes to fellow countryman Yuvraj Singh, who is celebrating his 36th birthday today. But UV is only one rare one. Happy Birthday dear friend @YUVSTRONG12. May your fight continue to inspire many". 8. If you ever search for Twitter and God simultaneously, chances are the first name to top your search list will be Virender Sehwag, because that's how savage and badass he is when it comes to putting the social media to good use. However, after reading New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor's tweet, we feel Viru Paji's crown is now in danger. On one hand where the Kiwis gave Team India a hard time on field and won the match by 6 wickets, Viru Paji and Ross Taylor seemed to be playing a separate league altogether off the field and we loved the latter battle more. It won't be a surprise if you heard more cheers on Twitter than at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Sehwag is known for taking hilarious digs at anything and everything under the sun and that's exactly what he did after New Zealand's victory. He tweeted to Ross Taylor addressing him as 'Darji ji' (for those who didn't get the pun, go and translate 'tailor' in Hindi). Well played @RossLTaylor Darji ji . Great effort after handling the pressure of Diwali orders .#indvsnz — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) October 22, 2017 But, like a true boss, Ross quickly responded to the tweet and stunned both Sehwag and his fans with his savagery and wit. 9. 10. It's been over four years since one of India's most destructive batsmen, Virender Sehwag, bowed out of international cricket. But after hammering the opposition bowlers all around the park, the former Indian opener seems to have found a new pitch as he continues to enthrall his fans with his ever-entertaining wit off the field. From unique birthday wishes or hilarious comparisons, Sehwag has continued to get the better of the opposition with a potent mix of fun, puns, sarcasm and also, what is now being labelled as, just simple 'Sehwagasm'. But, on 20 October, while the former Indian cricketer was celebrating his 39th birthday, Twitterati had their own plans for the 'Nawab of Najafgarh'. Taking cue from Sehwag's very own book of wit and humour, celebrities, cricket bigwigs and fans all came together to wish the batting legend in their own unique way. Amongst numerous wishes, tweets from photographer Atul Kasbekar and Sachin Tendulkar trumped others and drew loudest cheers on the micro-blogging website. From unique birthday wishes or hilarious comparisons, Sehwag has continued to get the better of the opposition with a potent mix of fun, puns, sarcasm and also, what is now being labelled as, just simple 'Sehwagasm'. For a batsman whose fearless batting inspiring us all in his heyday, Sehwag seems to have adopted the same carefree approach on Twitter. And, his recent tweets that summed up his glorious career are a testimony to that. It is not always the words we say, that have the biggest effect. It is usually how we say them. — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) October 6, 2017 Posting on the micro-blogging website, Sehwag tweeted: "It is not always the words we say, that have the biggest effect. It is usually how we say them". Similarly in cricket, it is usually not a poor delivery that has an effect, it is usually how we smash them :) https://t.co/36iCwFHrp5 — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) October 6, 2017 He followed it up with another tweet that read: "Similarly in cricket, it is usually not a poor delivery that has an effect, it is usually how we smash them". Viru constructed an extraordinary career with a relentless quest, and a genius for boundary hitting. His uncomplicated approach - batting is all about scoring as many runs as quickly as possible - showed his sharp and street-smart cricket mind. With minimal footwork and maximum intent, he piled up over 17,000 runs in his international cricket career. What appeared risky to many was merely an opportunity for Sehwag in cricket - something his tweets highlighted perfectly.
  12. After the controversial fall out between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble led to the latter's resignation from the post of the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri was touted to be the frontrunner for the top job amid adequate backing from the Indian captain himself. But, while Shastri was looked upon as a potential replacement for Kumble, other applicants like Tom Moody and Virender Sehwag, in particular, were expected to give him tough competition. And, as the selection process by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) got into motion, Sehwag had reportedly leapfrogged Shastri in the race for the top job. BCCL However, after a week of chaos and drama that ensued following interviews of the five candidates, the CAC - comprised of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman - surprisingly picked Shastri to call the shots in the Indian dressing room as head coach. So, what really happened to Sehwag? How did he missed the boat? Sehwag, a fan favourite, had Kohli's complete backing and would've been a frontrunner to grab the role if not for certain conditions. One of the five candidates to apply for the job, Sehwag's presentation during his personal meeting with the CAC was the third most impressive after Shastri and Moody. But, according to media reports, the Nawab of Najafgarh had initiated a lot of groundwork with the Indian camp before it eventually boiled down to the personal interview in Mumbai. Twitter/@IPL "After his stint as mentor of Kings XI Punjab, Viru was growing more confident by the day that he had the potential required to work at a higher level in a similar capacity. It was then that a senior BCCI official asked him to apply (for the role of India coach) if he could make up his mind," a senior official was quoted as saying by the TOI. Acting on the advice, Sehwag approached Kohli to get a feel of things. Since both Sehwag and Kohli rose through the ranks in the domestic circuit while playing for Delhi, the duo could've turned their familiarity with each other into a professional relationship. But it was not to be. Sehwag's proposal to bring along with him a team of support staff including physiotherapist Amit Tyagi and Kings XI Punjab assistant coach Mithun Manhas apparently turned out to be the deal-breaker. Reacting to his conditions, Kohli reportedly told Sehwag that he had reservations as there is a professional set-up in place where the onus is on the CAC to take those calls. BCCL It is here that Shastri managed to become the front-runner, considering he was willing to have a more inclusive approach as far as he, the skipper and the team members were concerned. "The CAC did a fair job in assessing all candidates and came with the best possible decision," the report quoted a source. "What went in Shastri's favour was also the fact that he understood the importance of the work ethic put in place by the existing support staff members who have worked with the team for close to three years," the source added. While Shastri will be busy formulating the policies to improve India's success in international cricket, Sehwag, who came so close to being the head coach, decided to to take a breather and went for a holiday in Canada. But most of the media attention that comes his way now is garnered through his activity on social media where he has carved a niche for himself with lovely wordplay, trolling others and bringing notice to societal issues.
  13. After External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, if there's anyone who has managed to capture the hearts of people on Twitter, it's the former batsman Virender Sehwag. His witty one-liners, word-play, marriage problems and hilarious comments have always cracked us up and his unparalleled popularity only establishes the same. But when Viru Paji is not cracking jokes or taking jibes at people, he is busy creating awareness about socially relevant issues, which others chose to turn a blind eye towards. Sharing the inspirational story of forest conservationist Jadav Payeng, Sehwag took to Twitter to appreciate the incredible efforts of the guy who is known as the ‘Forest Man of India'. Asked to name her favourite male cricketer, furious Mithali gave a stunning reply: "Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer?" Her response took the social media by storm with many lauding her spirit amid the ever-growing gender disparity between men and women cricketers. Just days after that incident, another comment regarding the women's cricketers has set the social media on fire, this time for all the right reasons. Superb response from Indian skipper Mithali Raj. But, while the eight nations are engrossed in the battle to lift the coveted trophy, an off-the-field battle between Virender Sehwag and Rashid Latif has become the talk of the town. And, the war of words has now been joined by Manoj Tiwary. The out of favour Indian cricketer lashed out at the former Pakistani wicket-keeper over his offensive comments towards Sehwag. After India's emphatic win over arch-rivals Pakistan, Latif posted a video on Facebook where he was seen lashing out at the former Indian opener. The language in the video suggests he doesn't have courtesy and the decency to respect other players. So tell a friend to translate Sehwag's record from English so that you understand how far behind you lag in terms of numbers. It will help you become aware of reality and then think ten times before taking such digs at legendary performers of the game," Tiwary concluded.
  16. For the past few days, there has been a lot of drama surrounding the position of the Indian Cricket team's coach. With Anil Kumble most probably on his way out, the BCCI is looking for more options. As of now, we have no idea who will take the coveted position, but the race for it just got a lot more interesting. Reportedly, Virender Sehwag just sent a two line application to BCCI to put himself in the running. Since Sehwag is the mentor of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab, he is obviously in touch with the current pool of Indian players and has experience working with them as well. The now famous two-line application read, "Mentor and a coach of Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League and has played with all these (Indian) boys before." © Twitter The amusing application has even stunned the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), who immediately asked him to send in a proper application with a full resume. According to a report of Indian Express, a BCCI source said, “Sehwag being Sehwag has sent his application in two lines. There was no CV attached to it. 17. It's not easy to follow a sport these days. The rigorous schedule and painful match timings are hard to adhere to for a sports fanatic. And, every once in a while, the loyalty of a fan towards a sport or their favourite team is challenged by the multiple facets of their personal lives. While sports fans usually end up overcoming almost all hindrances coming their way, the biggest threat to their passion is generally posed by their wives and girlfriends. It is a bonding exercise when you end up watching their Cinderella-like sitcoms with them, but when it comes to returning the favour, you're deemed "boring". We all have been there, caught up in the middle, trying to ascertain the repercussions of skipping a dinner date in favour of watching a game with your pals. © Twitter Despite our best efforts, all this while, not many can boast of a formula or a perfect recipe to strike a balance between cricket and their loved ones. And, more often than not, we all tend to give in to the whims and fancies of our better-halves - not always for them - but for our own peace of mind. But, not Virender Sehwag. During his athletic days, the former Indian cricketer had built a reputation as one of the most destructive batsmen in the world. And, even after his retirement, the right-hander continues to reflect his take-no-shit attitude on social media. However, at the end of the day, Sehwag is a married man. So when it comes to dealing with the most obvious, yet traumatic, situation, how does the 'Nawab of Najafgarh' fare? Well, just like on the playing field, Sehwag improvises to hit one out of the park. © BCCL The 38-year-old seems to have derived a cheat code that seems to be working well for him so far. The former Indian opener shared an incident which gave us all an insight into the life of Sehwag - The Married Man. Sehwag and his wife Aarti recently went to watch a movie. And, by the looks of it, the 'King Of Multan' was in no mood to miss out on IPL Qualifier 1. So rather than refusing to go and drawing flak from his wife, Sehwag improvised with the situation. © BCCL While Aarti was busy enjoying the movie, the Delhi lad wasted no time in tuning to some slam-bang T20 action on his smartphone. Sehwag, even shared his photo, where can be seen inside a theatre savouring the thrilling contest between Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Mumbai Indians (MI). A happy wife means a happy Life. In a theatre ,watching match as wife watches a movie. Main bhi khush, Biwi bhi khush. But, every now and then, a careful improvisation will surely help your cause.
  18. After defeating the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in their last two games, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) was expected to put up yet another stellar show when they locked horns with the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) on Sunday. The stakes were at an all-time high with the winner between Pune and Punjab going straight into the play-offs. But, what eventually unfolded at the MCA stadium didn't just leave Preity Zinta red-faced, it also evoked a strong response from Punjab mentor and head of cricketing operations Virender Sehwag. © Twitter/IPL Asked to bat first, Punjab couldn't have got off to a worse start than losing Martin Guptill on the very first delivery of their innings. If that wasn't enough, the visitors lost their second wicket after Shardul Thakur dismissed Shaun Marsh in the fourth over. Soon, Punjab found themselves reeling at 32/5 in the powerplay overs. Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel tried to hold fort for their team but Dan Christian sent the former back in the hut to spark a shambolic batting collapse for Punjab. © Twitter/IPL A team that had posted a mammoth 230-run total in their last match, was eventually bowled out for a mere 73 runs - their lowest total in IPL history. On the forgetful day, where the likes of Guptill (0), Marsh (10), Eoin Morgan (4) and Glenn Maxwell (0) failed miserably, Axar emerged as the top-scorer with his 22-run knock. “I’m very disappointed. I can say that none of the foreign players took responsibility and at least played 12 to 15 overs. Their role was at least one of the top four should bat for 12 to 15 overs, but none of the batsmen took the responsibility.” Viru isn't holding anything back #RPSvKXIP #IPL2017 https://t.co/wzJbUrEkP2 #VIVOIPL via @ipl — Cricket Geek (@CricGeeks) May 14, 2017 “I think they were complaining that the wicket was a bit slow but when you play international cricket so much, you should get used to playing on difficult or good wickets. There are very rare occasions when you get a good wicket to bat on but whatever wicket you get, you have to play at least 20 overs for your side. But Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Guptill and Morgan [were all disappointing],” a disappointed Sehwag said during the post-match press conference. “Even Marsh, his role was to play till 10-12 overs, but the way he got out was disappointing and then Maxwell and Morgan, these are the experienced players… I mean the players who got out had been informing the next batsman that it’s a slow wicket and even then if you throw away wickets, it means that you’re not up for the game,” Sehwag continued. © Twitter/IPL While the overall batting display had shocked Sehwag, it was Maxwell's inconsistency that disappointed him the most. “We always knew that when Maxwell fires, then he can win the match on his own. But he didn’t fire in most games. That is a big disappointment, especially since he is experienced, having played for Australia’s Test and ODI teams. He didn’t take the responsibility as a captain and didn’t perform for Kings XI Punjab,” he said. The former Indian cricketer also pointed out that the absence of Hashim Amla at the top was another contributing factor to Punjab's dismal show. “We missed Hashim Amla, for sure. The kind of consistency he showed, none of the other players could do that, an individual couldn’t take responsibility. Saha played one (good) innings, Manan Vohra played one innings but apart from that none of the others played responsibly.” © Twitter/IPL Punjab's shambolic nine-wicket loss to Pune saw their hopes of making the play-offs go down the drain. While Pune set up a meeting with Mumbai in Qualifier 1, Punjab finished their IPL campaign with a fifth-place finish and 14 points this year.
  19. No other team has looked as convincing as the in-form Mumbai Indians (MI) in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. From brilliant batting performances to sublime bowling spells, the Rohit Sharma-led brigade has arguably become one of the title favourites this season. But, amid multiple contributing factors to Mumbai's stellar show, the availability of the Pandya brothers has undoubtedly bolstered the team against their opponents this season. While Hardik Pandya is dangerous down the order and looks influential with his seam bowling, his brother Krunal is a prolific spinner and his availability strengthens Mumbai's middle-order. © Twitter A great addition to the Mumbai franchise, the Pandya brothers share a good rapport and their camaraderie is often seen in the field and on social media. The two cricketers have engaged in Twitter banter in the past, but Hardik's recent tweet turned a few heads including that of Virender Sehwag. After Mumbai's win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Hardik stunned everyone with his tweet that read: "Sometimes in life, people closest to you end up disappointing you the most. Not cool, bro!” Sometimes in life, people closest to you end up disappointing you the most. Not cool, bro! — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) May 14, 2017 Puzzled by his younger brother's tweet, Krunal replied, "@hardikpandya7, this shouldn't have happened in the first place. I am bade bhaiyya for a reason. Let's not make this a big issue!" @hardikpandya7 .@hardikpandya7, this shouldn't have happened in the first place. I am bade bhaiyya for a reason. Let's not make this a big issue! — krunal pandya (@krunalpandya24) May 14, 2017 While everyone was confused what the Pandya brothers were sparring over, Sehwag came up with a theory of his own, claiming that money could be a reason behind this fight. Lagta hai ,"Baap Bada Na Bhaiyya, Sabse Bada Rupaiyya" - is gaane ko jyada hi seriously le liya .Lado mat yaar !#PandyaBrosFight https://t.co/VIyWjs2YnX — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) May 14, 2017 “Lagta hai, 'Baap Bada Na Bhaiyya, Sabse Bada Rupaiyya' – is gaane ko jyada hi seriously le liya. 20. When it comes to making his presence felt, no other cricketer comes even close to the exploits of Virender Sehwag. Whether on or off the field, the former Indian batting sensation knows exactly how to strike a chord with his fans. Such is his impact that even after his retirement, the legend of Sehwag continues to grow strong. The 'Nawab of Najafgarh' has turned out to be a revelation on the social media. From unique birthday wishes to hilarious comparisons, Sehwag continues to entertain us all with a potent mix of fun, pun and sarcasm. On the 2nd of May, the former Indian opener once again geared up to pay homage to one of cricket's biggest names with his own twist of uncanny humour. The 'King of Multan' was looking to give his best to West Indies batting legend Brian Lara when he tweeted: "Happy Birthday @BrianLara. BC Lara, kya tha Maara". Happy Birthday @BrianLara . BC Lara ,kya tha Maara pic.twitter.com/Uqu3RfLNbl — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) May 2, 2017 While everyone understood the first bit of that tweet, the later half got everyone confused. Using "BC" to address Lara, was Sehwag trying to be witty by deliberately using the shorter version of the popular hindi expletive, or was it something else? Well, in all likelihood, we would like to believe that the answer to question lies in former Windies cricketer's full name - Brian Charles Lara. Despite all the speculations, Sehwag was indeed trying to wish Lara on his birthday and the letters "BC" in his tweet were only his first and middle name initials. Well, no matter what he tweets; we'll never be able to figure out what truly goes through the lively brain of Mr Sehwag. @virendersehwag @BrianLara Why BC Lara stands for??😛😛😛😂😂 — Udit (@coolbandaUd) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara Another monkeygate episode in Making, @BrianLara please ask Viru bhai the full form of BC 😂😂😂😂😂 — Kumar Amritansh (@Banarasi_Hindu) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara B C Lara chaar sou maaraa!! — Anoop Sriram (@ramuanoop) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara Bc i thnk baccha chor lara.... oppsss sry... brain charles (bc)😅 — amit singh (@amitsinghj) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara It was sense of humour or...😂 — Amit Pal (@AmitPal07969853) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara Can anyone please explain the meaning of BC here ? — dilu (@dilu008) May 2, 2017 @virendersehwag @BrianLara Wished in true delhi style. 21. Virender Sehwag is one of the wittiest cricketers out there. Hell, he IS the wittiest. From trolling fellow cricketers to tweeting about the plight of married men, Viru paaji has taken Twitter by storm. Remember the time he tweeted to Ashwin Ravichandran and, basically, spoke for every married man out there: Congrats href="https://twitter.com/ashwinravi99">@ashwinravi99 for an incredible 7th Man of the series. Only a married man can understand d urgency of going home early.#FamilyTime — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) October 11, 2016 This time his tweet comparing spilt ACs to husbands is just winning the internet, hands down. 22. The love-hate relationship between MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag has been doing the rounds in the Indian cricket circuit for quite some time now. While multiple reports surfaced that Dhoni had a part to play in Sehwag's exclusion from the Indian side, Sourav Ganguly's comments that the former Indian skipper could've indeed had something to do with it, only fuelled the rumours. Recently, when Dhoni was removed as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants for the upcoming IPL 10 season, a lot of cricketers rallied behind the 35-year-old while criticising the decision of the team owners. © BCCL On one hand where former cricketers like Mohammad Azharuddin slammed the Pune management, Sehwag, in his inimitable style, stunned everyone by saying that he was happy with the decision. But, before anyone could jump to conclusions, the Indian batting legend clarified his comments. "I am happy that he (Dhoni) isn't captain because maybe now my team (Kings XI Punjab) can beat this Pune team," Sehwag said during an interaction at SporTale. "On a serious note, I believe that this is an internal decision of the franchise but he is one of the best-ever captains India has ever had," he added further. © BCCL Pune's frailties in their maiden IPL season last year is believed to have led to the change in captaincy. Under Dhoni, Pune finished second-last in the previous season, winning just five games and losing nine in a campaign ravaged by injuries to key players. It was also the first time a team led by Dhoni failed to make the IPL playoffs. Dhoni scored 284 runs in 12 innings at a strike-rate of 135.
  23. India held on to the T20 World Cup trophy by defeating Pakistan in the finals in Bangalore. With this win, the Indian team added another jewel to their crown and proved that a strong will reaps great rewards. Following the win, the Indian team received a lot of love on social media for winning the world cup by a huge margin over Pakistan (India defeated Pakistan by 9 wickets) but one of those congratulatory tweets by Sehwag stirred up a storm for being insensitive. Here’s what Sehwag tweeted after the historic win: Congratulations to our #OtherMenInBlue on winning the T20 World Cup for the Blind. They have lit up smiles for a billion people. pic.twitter.com/sEZiz2mXxU — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 12, 2017 This evoked a fierce reaction from the captain of our team, Ajay Reddy who said, “We wear the same blue jersey, represent the same tri-colour and play with equal pride and passion then why term us as ‘other’? It is appreciable that he congratulated us but then we are no others. We too are the men in blue.” Sehwag, however, cannot be blamed for using the term ‘other’ because it was the official hash tag used for the campaign. . @GauravPandhi Better do some research before commenting. But research &media/you don't go hand in hand.It is their official campaign theme. pic.twitter.com/LplsoeZATf — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 14, 2017 While Ajay Reddy is right in saying that it’s degrading to label the team as the ‘other men in blue’, we as a community need to change our attitude towards the differently-abled before pointing our fingers towards a single person.
  24. Twitter spats are one of the coolest things to watch online and the deadliest, to say the least, if both the parties are hell bent on bringing each other down. No offense, but if you ever feel bored, don’t have anything to do and lethargy takes its toll on you, be assured that Twitter will be your messiah and provide you the needed dose of humour. Well, credit our nose for smelling drama from almost anywhere that we came across this marvelous exchange aka a Twitter War, between author J K Rowling of Harry Potter fame and Piers Morgan who is, well known for stirring up controversy out of anything under the sun. © Facebook This twitter feud happened after Morgan recently appeared on a US talk show and spoke in defense of President Donald Trump’s immigration ban. In an episode of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’, comedian Jim Jefferies asked Morgan to “f**k off” when the latter refused to accept the order of the Muslim ban. Rowling then took to Twitter to share her opinion on the episode and things escalated at lightning speed. Yes, watching Piers Morgan being told to **** off on live TV is *exactly* as satisfying as I'd always imagined. https://t.co/4FII8sYmIt — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) 11 February 2017 Morgan, who is known for not letting things slide just like that, wasn’t too far behind in replying to Rowling’s tweet and jokes that this is why he doesn’t read Harry Potter. Obviously, he was later trolled when he acknowledged the fact that his son his a Potter addict. What ensued after that was a long trail of sheer pleasure for the viewers’ eyes. Everything I said was factual. If you think screaming '**** OFF!!!' at me changes that, then you're mistaken. https://t.co/0U9fVoTjfc — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) 11 February 2017 .@piersmorgan Would you like a couple of hours to mock up some pictures of refugees carrying explosives to substantiate your position? https://t.co/sFj0kqIajd — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) 11 February 2017 This isn’t the first time that Morgan got into a Twitter war with someone, but getting majorly trolled seems to be a pattern that he should be well aware of by now. Earlier, it was Virender Sehwag who destroyed Morgan on Twitter with his sarcasm, wit and humour and now JK Rowling has gotten a few blows in as well.
  25. It was on 7 February, 1999 when India's veteran spinner Anil Kumble etched his name in the history books after taking 10 wickets in a single Test innings, becoming only the second bowler after England's Jim Laker to achieve the feat. But, yesterday, when the cricket fraternity was celebrating the 18th anniversary of Kumble's unique feat, Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag shed light on the forgotten story behind his former teammate's rare achievement. Hailing Kumble on the historic day, Sehwag spoke about the contribution of Pakistan's Wasim Akram who eventually became Jumbo's 10th victim in the monumental innings at Feroz Shah Kotla. Kismat ke aage ,all saazish fail. Well done Wasim bhai. What a day it was at the Kotla by Anil bhai. pic.twitter.com/xDzMd39XOq — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 7, 2017 According to Akram's personal account, Waqar Younis who was batting at the other end had come up to him and suggested that he could probably get run-out to foil Kumble's chances of clinching the 10-wicket haul. "Kumble had got nine wickets and me and Waqar (Younis) were batting in the crease. Waqar came to me and said 'How about getting run out?' so that Kumble does not get his 10th wicket," Akram revealed. "I said 'You can't deny him the feat if he is destined for it. But I can assure you that I'm not going to give my wicket to Kumble. But subsequently it was me who gifted my wicket to Kumble," he added. As highlighted by both Akram and Sehwag, destiny eventually prevailed and Kumble recorded epoch-making figures of 10-74 in 26.3 overs to hand India a remarkable 212-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan.
