On Sunday, while some of us woke up to a cup of tea or coffee, there were some who woke up to the shocking development that took place. No matter what the outcome of the series is, it?s more than just a game of cricket,? he said while speaking to Geo Pakistan. The ?Swing ka Sultan? said the three-match T20 series, dubbed the Independence Cup, is a historic event as international cricket finally resumes in Pakistan after a wait of eight long years, barring a brief tour by Zimbabwe in 2015. ?I welcome the World XI, it is a very good T20 team. But our boys make up a good T20 team and are very motivated after winning the Champions Trophy,? he said, adding that it was very difficult to predict who the favourite side is, as ?any one over can change the outcome of a T20 match?. Akram hailed the star line-up of the World XI team, which is led by South African skipper Faf du Plessis. ?Some really experienced cricketers are here in Pakistan. [Morne] Morkel can trouble the opposition with his pace, [Ben] Cutting is a great addition [to their bowling] and can trouble Pakistan. Imran Tahir is one of the best spinners in the world. In batting, there are the likes of du Plessis and Amla,? he said. The former fast bowler said he spoke to South Africa?s Morne Morkel the other day, who told him about how different he has found Pakistan in reality. ?I spoke to Morkel and he told me that his image about Pakistan was different from reality,? Akram said, noting that the foreign players were heartened by the warm welcome they have received since their arrival in Pakistan.
  16. File The Sultans of Swing, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis will once again be together on the same side, when the next edition of PSL begins, representing newest franchise Multan Sultans. In an official signing agreement, expected to take place during August in Karachi, Wasim will take the role of cricket operations director, while Waqar will be the mentor and head coach. This will be the first time the duo will work together since their retirements in 2003. Wasim decided to leave Islamabad United as a mentor, after two seasons, that included winning the inaugural Pakistan Super League in 2015 with them. While it will be Waqar's first time in the PSL, having formerly been the head coach of the national side. Wasim, in partnership with Waqar, intimidated international batsmen in the 90s. Together Wasim and Waqar, known as "the two Ws" of the Pakistani team, were one of the most lethal and successful bowling partnerships in cricket. In the 61 Tests that the duo played together, shared 559 wickets between them. Wasim picking 282 wickets while Waqar took 277.
  17. Aamir doesn't attend award shows; the trailer of 'Secret Superstar' starts with him announcing an award. That's our first hint this is going to be an interesting watch. His 'Dangal' co-star Zaira Wasim is seen as a 14-year-old singer struggling to make herself heard, fighting against a conservative father who dramatically rips apart her guitar, and her dreams. © Youtube Aamir is known to reinvent himself in every movie and this one looks like no exception. Seen as a worldly-wise music director Shakti Kumar, Aamir looks refreshingly different from the stern father in played in 'Dangal'. © Youtube In a very 'Taare Zameen Par'-like manner, Aamir tells Zaira to follow her dreams. Zaira makes a bold statement with her burqa and guitar as she becomes a YouTube sensation overnight. 18. Imad Wasim Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim will feature for Durham county in England?s popular domestic cricket competition NatWest T20 Blast this summer. Imad, who is the world?s number one ranked T20I bowler, will fly to England to represent Durham Jets in the ongoing T20 Blast, subject to him being granted the visa. The 28-year-old told local media that the stint would be a great opportunity and he is waiting for his visa. Imad displaced South African spinner Imran Tahir to claim the top spot in ICC T20I bowlers rankings last month. Amir, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim promoted in new PCB central contracts Umar Akmal was not offered the central contract by the PCB On Wednesday, he was promoted to Category B of the Pakistan Cricket Board?s new central contract list, from Category C. Fast bowler Mohammad Amir is already representing Essex in the T20 Blast while former captain Shahid Afridi is playing for Hampshire. Pacer Junaid Khan left for UK earlier this week to feature for Lancashire in the T20 competition.
  19. LONDON: Spinner Imad Wasim has said Pakistan are ready to play their hearts out in the Champions Trophy finale against India today. Speaking ahead of the mega clash, Imad said he is really excited about the big game and he and his teammates are going to give their very best to win the title. ?It?s a massive game. Emotions are running high but we are not taking pressure. We will play our hearts out against India. But we are treating it as any other knockout match,? he said. Imad said the tournament has so far gone very well for him and he will play to the best of his capabilities in the final. ?I have bowled well. I?m looking forward to bat as well. I have prepared my plans for the game. The wicket is really good. It will be a good match,? he added.
  20. Imad Wasim reacts after getting AB de Villiers out on golden duck/Getty Images All-rounder Imad Wasim has been making headlines for all the right reasons following Pakistan?s stunning win against South Africa. His wicket of Hashim Amla set the stage for the impending collapse. But that?s not all; he also became the first man to give Protean skipper AB de Villiers his first golden duck of the career. De Villiers, the world?s number one ODI batsman, had known only six ducks in his 211 innings ? none of them golden. But little did he know ahead of Wednesday?s fateful innings that a left-arm spinner whom he had never faced in his life would give him that unwanted record. ?Oh, it happens in cricket,? Imad Wasim laughed it off in an interview to the ICC. ?Sometimes you get hit, sometimes the other guy gets out. It?s just cricket. You should not be carried away or feel too low by this. He hit a shot and got out, so I think I?m really lucky.? Courtesy: ICC ?He is such a big player. I see it from the team?s point of view. If AB de Villiers gets out early, and you know what he can do if he stays for a long time, so we were just very happy that he got out. It didn?t matter that he got out on zero or one,? said Imad. The 28-year-old said Pakistan team is a different unit when the players play with the intensity observed in the match against South Africa. ?I?ve said this before also, we can do anything on any day,? Imad said. ?All we need to change is to put up this sort of performance every time. Whether we win or lose is separate. If we had played with such intensity against India, we could have won or lost, but you can see the difference. The way the boys bowled and fielded, it was fantastic to see our lads play like that. We are a different unit if we play with this intensity, if we don?t relax or don?t become lazy.? The all-rounder remarked that the win has given Pakistan renewed hopes of making it to the semifinals and that the team would bring on its best against Sri Lanka on Monday. ?When you win, the morale that is there is different. If we think too much about having beaten South Africa we might be flat again, but we are aware that it?s a do or die match for us. We?ll treat it like a knockout match and not worry about the result. Hopefully, Pakistan and the world will get to see a great performance.? Pakistan?s next match in Cardiff is all the more special for Imad, as the city is just 40 miles away from Swansea, his birthplace. ?Yes the next match is in Cardiff, so there is that,? he said. ?Last year when I played against England, the crowd was supporting me a lot. I?m very thankful to them and to the Pakistan fans who give me so much love. Today it felt like we were playing in a home ground. It was fantastic, it is great fun when our crowd turns up like this.?
