  1. The Apple Watch has been one of the most important wearables that were launched in the recent past, and today, it can accurately detect atrial fibrillation. It is a serious heart condition that is one of the leading causes of a stroke. © BCCL The feature is currently in testing and a new medical study has offered proof that wearables can do more than just tracking your steps. The study was coordinated by University of California, San Francisco and asked users to download an app that can detect atrial fibrillation. With the help of the app, the Apple Watch can detect irregular or rapid beats of the top two chambers of the heart. The study was conducted amongst 9,750 volunteers out of which 347 participants were already diagnosed with the heart condition. The app is known as CardioGram and it was able to read heart rate data of users who had irregular heartbeats and atrial fibrillation with a 97 percent accuracy rate. © BCCL The study said “97% accuracy refers to the c-statistic, or area under the sensitivity-specificity curve. Surprisingly, both the sensitivity and specificity of DeepHeart were even higher than an FDA-cleared Apple Watch ECG attachment -- 98% (vs 93%) sensitivity and 90% (vs 84%) specificity.” UCSF and Cardiogram are now also working to determine whether the Apple Watch can also detect hypertension, early signs of diabetes and sleep apnea. Earlier studies have indicated that these conditions could be spotted in data collected by Apple Watch and other wearable devices. © Youtube What's cool is that Apple Watch is a fun wearable that now has an advantage over other heart rate monitors and some wearables. It can help diagnose serious heart problems which is an added bonus for something that is already dominating the wristwatch market. Hopefully, these features would encourage more users to buy wearables in the near future and help the market grow even further. Source: CultofMac
  2. Playing video games could become more accessible than ever and that too on various devices as Microsoft is working on something very similar to Netflix. Currently, there are over 2 billion gamers in the world and Microsoft has a plan for getting them to use its service. © Pexels In an interview with The Verge, a company representative said that Microsoft Xbox is working on a service that would let gamers play games the same way they watch content on Netflix. The service will let players access games from various developers and stream those titles to any device. “We're looking at ways to make that content available to anyone no matter what device they're on,” Microsoft gaming cloud division chief Kareem Choudhry said in the interview. He told the tech news site that there will eventually be “2 billion gamers in the world” and Microsoft's goal “is to reach every one of them.” Of course, its easier said than done as video game consoles are mostly tied to exclusive titles forcing players to chose a console for the game library. Exclusive titles are available on specific hardware and it would be hard to get every game on Microsoft's service due to these obstacles. © Pexels Having said that, Microsoft's new service has opened up new opportunities for third-party developers. Games could be stored games in the cloud and can be streamed directly to mobile devices, consoles and PCs. Microsoft is currently investing heavily in their Azure cloud service and believes it can deliver the platform on which games are delivered. © Pexels Even though companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo don't necessarily see eye to eye, the streaming service could still be successful without any collaboration from Nintendo and Sony. Majority of games that are launched in a year are developed by third-party companies and could result in a well-rounded line-up of titles. It wasn't made clear when the service is set to launch. However, Choudhry did say that Microsoft is “spending a lot of time thinking about that space.” Source: The Verge
  3. Fitbit has finally announced a smartwatch that caters to a more mainstream audience and will directly compete with the Apple Watch. The smartwatch has been designed keeping women in mind and looks a lot like the Apple Watch. © Fitbit It's called the Fitbit Versa and is the company's second true smartwatch and is focused more on being a smartwatch rather than a fitness-focused device. Having said that, the smartwatch is loaded with fitness tracking capabilities such as tracking different kinds of workouts, 24/7 heart rate monitoring and personalised fitness tips. The smartwatch can also be used to answer texts, store music and download apps. The Versa has a similar squarish design as the Apple Watch and a full touchscreen interface. © Fitbit “As the wearables category continues to grow, Fitbit Versa fills a critical need in the market by delivering a beautifully designed, full-featured smartwatch that is easy to use at a very competitive price,” said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit. “Versa brings consumers the advanced health and fitness features Fitbit is known for, along with broad compatibility across mobile platforms and 4+ days battery life to provide users with a better picture of their overall health, making it stand out from any smartwatch available today. The Fitbit Versa comes with a range of sports bands that are sweat and water-resistant. It comes in four different colours i.e. black, grey, peach, white and periwinkle. Fitbit also offers stainless steel and metal-mesh bands in black and silver. © Fitbit The Versa watch also has NFC capabilities which means it can be used for contactless payments. Fitbit says the smartwatch can last up to four days on a single charge and is waterproof up to 50 meters. Fitbit Versa can store more than 300 songs, or play your Pandora stations. It pairs with Bluetooth headphones too, so you can leave your phone at home while exercising. © Fitbit Fitbit Versa will be available in India in Q2, 2018 across Reliance Digital, Croma, Helios and other major retailers including e-commerce partners like Amazon India and Flipkart in India for INR 19,999. Fitbit Versa Special Edition will also retail for INR 21,999 and accessories range from INR 2,499 to INR 8,999.
  4. HOLLYWOOD, UNITED STATES: All eyes will be on the battle for Oscars supremacy between "The Shape of Water" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" on Sunday. But if there´s one thing previous ceremonies have demonstrated, it´s that it´s a good idea never to expect the expected on Hollywood´s biggest night. Here are five things to watch for: The specter of ´Envelopegate´ It may have been the most embarrassing flub in Oscars history, but don´t expect host Jimmy Kimmel to shy away from mining "Envelopegate" for comedy gold at the Academy´s expense. The embarrassing mix-up at last year´s show saw the best picture Oscar incorrectly given to musical "La La Land" before the actual winner, coming-of-age drama "Moonlight," was finally handed the prize. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty walked out at the 2017 Oscars to present the award for best picture -- and chaos ensued when it emerged they had the wrong envelope -- and announced the wrong winner Accountants for PricewaterhouseCoopers, the firm responsible for tabulating Oscar ballots, had handed Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope. Oscar watchers expect the mistake, which made for a chaotic end to the film industry´s biggest night, to be fodder for both Kimmel´s opening monologue and jokes from the presenters. Best picture photo finish "The Shape of Water," Guillermo del Toro´s much-admired Cold War-era fairy tale love story, goes into the Oscars with the most nominations -- 13 -- compared to just seven for its main rival, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." But Martin McDonagh´s "Three Billboards," an early favorite in the prestigious best picture race, has weathered a backlash against its treatment of race issues to launch a late assault on the statuette. It has regained its status as the narrow frontrunner at odds of 13/10 against 2/1 for "The Shape of Water," according to awards prediction website Gold Derby. Every Oscars ceremony serves up some shocks, however, so don´t count out "Get Out," the third favorite ahead of outsiders "Lady Bird" and "Dunkirk." #MeToo and Time´s Up The #MeToo and Time´s Up movements -- against sexual misconduct and gender inequality, respectively -- have featured prominently in the awards season, inspiring many powerful speeches and turning the red carpet into a sea of symbolic black dresses at the Golden Globes and the Baftas. While there is no official repeat planned, some actresses have indicated they will again wear black in support of #MeToo on Sunday. Ryan Seacrest, an Academy Awards mainstay interviewing the rich and famous on the red carpet for E! News, is facing his own backlash following allegations of repeated sexual harassment from a former stylist. The channel is standing by Seacrest, host of ABC´s "American Idol" and "Live With Kelly and Ryan," and says he´ll be on the red carpet as usual. Oscar rarities and firsts Don´t be alarmed if you hear glass ceilings shattering at this year´s Oscars, with numerous breakthroughs to cheer among the nominees. "Mudbound" director Dee Rees is the first black woman nominated for best adapted screenplay, while her director of photography Rachel Morrison is the first woman to be nominated for best cinematography. "Mudbound" scored another first, with soul diva Mary J. Blige the first person nominated for acting and best original song in the same film. Yance Ford ("Strong Island") is the first openly transgender director ever nominated, and Jordan Peele ("Get Out") is the first black filmmaker nominated for directing, writing, and producing. He is also only the fifth black person ever nominated for best director -- after John Singleton, Lee Daniels, Steve McQueen and Barry Jenkins -- and could be the first to win. Greta Gerwig ("Lady Bird") is the fifth woman in history nominated for best director" and the first to land the nod for a directorial debut. Other firsts include a superhero film nominated for best adapted screenplay ("Logan") and the first person over the age of 87 to be nominated for an acting award -- Christopher Plummer in "All the Money in the World." Hosting test for Kimmel Comedian and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will preside over the Oscars for the second consecutive time, with critics tuning in to see how he navigates the tricky balancing act of being funny without making light of the #MeToo victims. Keeping the more than three-hour show -- usually the most-watched non-sports telecast each year in the United States -- upbeat in a year overshadowed by allegations of sexual assault will also be a tough challenge. Comedian and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will preside over the Oscars for the second consecutive time The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host was presenting last year when Beatty and Dunaway wrongly gave best picture to "La La Land" instead of rightful winner "Moonlight" after being handed the wrong envelope. "We were like, we have 10 seconds to say goodbye, we don´t know how long the speech is going to be, and it affects your rating in a very negative way if you go on past midnight," Kimmel recalled in an interview with news portal AZ Central. "And then all of a sudden it was like, ´Forget midnight. This might go on into ´Good Morning America.´"
  5. Shaukat Khanum kids pose upon arrival in Dubai DUBAI: Around 13 young patients under treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital arrived in Dubai earlier today to witness the Pakistan Super League (PSL) opening ceremony and matches, as part of defending champions Peshawar Zalmi?s #BringingBackSmiles initiative. The kids were flown in on Peshawar Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi's invitation, as the franchise continued its tradition from last year of inviting the young patients to watch the PSL action. ?These brave kids are very close to my heart and they deserve to be happy just like other kids do. Peshawar Zalmi will perform to the best of its abilities on the field in order to make them smile off it,? tweeted Javed Afridi. The excited kids posed for photos upon arrival in Dubai. Peshawar Zalmi play debutants Multan Sultans in the opening match of the PSL on Thursday.
  6. What does a Marvel fan do with their free time right now? Watch Black Panther, obviously. But, we're Indians. We don't spend money on anything unless we know it's gold. So, instead of reading boring reviews anywhere else, let us give you 6 reasons to watch Black Panther this weekend: Finally Got To Turn That Flame On - Michael B. Jordan (Killmonger) It looks like Marvel is making a habit out of picking actors to play the Human Torch, realizing they are much better suited for other roles and then them killing it in those roles. This is what happened with Chris Evans and it has now happened with Michael B. Jordan. While some might argue that Jordan was a fantastic Human Torch too, let's face it, a bad story can ruin even the best of actors. It's a good thing there was none of that here. Excellent script, excellent actors, and superb CGI. (Take note Justice League) Me-Shone Bright - Danai Gurira (Okoye) Some of you might remember her from The Walking Dead. Yup, that's Michonne right there. Personally, I didn't even realize it was her till I saw the credits. You really can't recognize her without the dreadlocks. She proves she's just as hardcore even without the zombie apocalypse. Clearly the breakthrough performance of the movie. Are '15 Million Merits' Enough To 'Get Out?' - Daniel Kaluuya (W'Kabi) Perhaps you remember him from the first season of Black Mirror. You definitely remember him from 'Get Out.' The man was nominated for an Oscar for crying out loud. While he doesn't get too much screen time, he is one of the multiple Oscar-nominated actors in this movie. (There are a lot of them) He's the reason we hope Black Panther gets a second part. Yup, just so we can see him 'Get Out' a little more. He Aint' No 'Person Unknown' No More - Chadwick Boseman (T'Challa) Chadwick was relatively unknown to the Indian audience before the Black Panther took off his mask in 'Captain America: Civil War.' That's not the case anymore! With so many Oscar nominees/winners as part of the main cast, it's not hard to get lost in all the brilliant acting. Most would expect him to pale in comparison to acting heavyweights like Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett. But, he doesn't! 'All Hail The King!' No Longer A Slave - Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia) Let's face it, not many Marvel fans would have seen '12 Years A Slave.' But, if you did, you'll notice Lupita Nyong'o from the moment she steps on screen. She is an Oscar-winning actress, so it's fair to expect a lot out of her. Who thought we could have so much fun with such a serious character portrayal in a Marvel movie? When Bilbo Went To Kansas - Martin Freeman (Everett Ross) You won't get this reference until you see the movie. One thing Marvel is great at doing is taking characters no one really cared about in the comics and making them awesome. Let's not forget the fact that they keep hiring amazing actors to fill each role. Ross is far more integral to this movie than he was to Civil War and let's just say the man knows how to keep you captivated even when he's not saying a word. *wink*wink* So, go watch 'Black Panther,' then watch it again. Once you're done, download the album (legally please) and lose your mind to the awesome beats from the movie courtesy Kendrick Lamar. We certainly are! If you really want to show your support for Wakanda (Not like they need the money. But we do!), why don't you pick up one of the superhero's t-shirts? They don't cost much and thanks to Amazon's same day delivery if you order it right now, you can probably wear it to the movie!
  7. Guido Huwiler and his wife Rita Ruettimann in Pyeongchang, South Korea, February 15, 2018 PYEONGCHANG: A year and 17,000 kms later, a Swiss couple arrived in Pyeongchang this week to watch their son compete in the Winter Olympics. The father and step-mother of Swiss freestyle skier Mischa Gasser left their home in Olten, 70 kms west of Zurich, in February last year to cycle across the world. They arrived in Pyeongchang on Tuesday after a journey that took them through 20 countries. ?To arrive here and see my son waiting for us. We were really touched. I had no words,? Guido Huwiler, 55, told Reuters Television. Huwiler, who sported a long bushy beard, and Rita Ruttimann, 57, said cycling every day was difficult. Their toughest challenge was traveling the Pamir Highway which can reach more that 4,000 metres in height as it crosses several countries in Central Asia. ?We were really tired afterward. We were finished and had to recover for two to three weeks,? he said. When they reached the Chinese border, Huwiler said he was refused a visa because of his beard. He refused to cut it but they are hoping to travel through China later in the journey. In South Korea, the couple camped outdoors in sub-zero temperatures en route to Pyeongchang?s Phoenix Park, the venue for Gasser?s freestyle skiing event. Huwiler said his 26-year-old son had dreamed of competing in the Olympics since he was four or five years old. ?I think it?s most important that he lives his dream and I just wish to be close to him when he gets this moment,? Huwiler said. After cheering on Gasser, the cyclists will continue through South Korea before flying to Japan. From there they plan to return to Switzerland to get visas for China, Russia and Mongolia before resuming their adventure. ?We are crazy!,? Huwiler said with a laugh.
  8. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson speaks during a joint news conference in Mexico City, Mexico, February 2, 2018. REUTERS/Henry Romero MEXICO CITY: US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned Mexico on Friday to pay attention to Russian meddling in elections around the world, following comments from another US official that there were signs of such interference in the country?s presidential race. Speaking in Mexico City, Tillerson said European counterparts had noticed that Russia had its fingerprints on a number of elections. ?We hear this from our European counterparts,? Tillerson said. ?My advice would be... pay attention to what?s happening.? His comments followed remarks late last year by US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, who said there was already evidence of Russian meddling in Mexican elections set for July. McMaster did not give details of the alleged interference. Tillerson made no reference to alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election won by President Donald Trump. That involvement included people in Russia buying 3,000 US political ads and placing 80,000 Facebook posts seen by 126 million Americans over two years, Facebook has said. US Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the allegations of Russian meddling in the US campaign, including whether there was any collusion between Trump?s team and Moscow. Russia denies that it intervened in the election. The country led by Vladimir Putin has also been accused of intervening in votes in Italy, Finland, Britain and France, among others. Mexico holds presidential and congressional elections on July 1 and so far the frontrunner in almost all polls is left-wing former Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. An aide to presidential hopeful Jose Antonio Meade, hoping to run for the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), warned in January that Russia could try to benefit Lopez Obrador. Lopez Obrador has made light of the allegation and has since taken to wearing a jacket embroidered with the name ?Andres Manuelovich?.
  9. Zayn Malik, who won our hearts since his One Direction days, is one of the biggest names in the music industry today. His voice is magical and trippy at the same time, and we can't help but listen to his tracks like 'Dusk Till Dawn' and 'Pillowtalk' on loop. The former One direction member has carved his own way and has a huge fan following. Just yesterday, he created a buzz on the internet when he unveiled a picture of himself on the cover of an Indian fashion magazine. Within no time, Zayn's photo went viral and his followers couldn't stop raving about his snap donning a white sweater. During the interview, Zyan also revealed his favourite Bollywood movie. And it's none other than Shah Rukh Khan's 'Devdas'. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed magnum opus is his all-time favourite and recently he also made his lady love Gigi Hadid watch it with him. @voguemagazine A post shared by Zayn Malik (@zayn) on Jul 13, 2017 at 6:02am PDT He also shared that he is a big SRK fan and loves Indian food. Well, that's quite a revelation we must say! Now that he has made this revelation, we remember the selfie that SRK shared with Malik in 2015 when the two met at the Asian Awards. The caption read, “This kid is so cool. May Allah bless him. Dinner time at the Asian Awards." © Twitter We hope even Gigi enjoyed watching 'Devdas' as much as Malik. On the work front, Zayn is gearing up for his new album and has been giving us a glimpse of it on Instagram and Snapchat.
  10. A lot has been said and done about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' but finally, after what felt like years, the movie managed to get a release. And within a week, it has crossed the hundred-crore mark and has broken several records not just in India but overseas as well. © Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions While most of us couldn't even get through the advance booking of tickets for the movie with a couple of our friends, families in America went a step ahead. By booking an entire show of course. The theatre saw Indian families of San Francisco Bay Area dressed in Padmavati-like attire and dancing to 'Ghoomar' before the show began. Film trade Analyst Komal Nahta took to Twitter to post about this magnificent moment. Have a look at the video: San Francisco Bay Area families bought a whole show of the movie theater (in Sunnyvale, California) to see Padmaavat and there was a dress code - "Every one should dress like Padmavati." And before the show there was this dancing ðð¼ pic.twitter.com/PKkEdbLXGx — Komal Nahta (@KomalNahta) January 30, 2018 The extent of the craze around the movie was also visible when 'Ghoomar' was chosen for a performance during a basketball match between Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat teams at the NBA (National Basketball Association) in the US. No points for guessing that it was a sight to behold. While Karni Sena is still busy protesting against the movie, it's safe to say that the cast and crew are having a gala time with the amount of success the movie has already achieved. More power to you SLB!
  11. Bollywood is an interesting industry. Hopes, aspirations, and dreams are galore but very few get a chance to make it big in the tinsel town. 2017 wasn't a great year for Bollywood but 2018 brings hopes not just in terms of good films but also in the category of fresh faces and new talent. While a lot has been spoken about Sara Ali Khan, Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor's debut, very less is known about some talents who are all set to make their big debut this year. These are those who have come a long way on their own without any big name or a godfather to launch them on the silver screen. This year will be full of raw talents from outside the industry who aim to entertain us and make their space in this big, glamorous town. Here is a look at the fresh talent who are waiting for their big day. Making it to the list are some model-turned-actors, TV stars and newbies who have landed here out of sheer love for acting and passion. Mrunal Thakur If my strength intimidates you , I hope you realise that's a weakness of yours ! . . . . . #notjustsaying #imeanit #sunday #wakeupandmakeup #instapicture #instagood #instadaily #yellow #intimidating A post shared by Mrunalthakur (@mrunalofficial2016) on Dec 23, 2017 at 9:16pm PST Known for her roles in soap operas, Mrunal Thakur will debut in a lead role in Tabrez Noorani and David Womark's 2018 film 'Love Sonia'. The film also features Richa Chadda and Freida Pinto in lead roles. That's quite a combination and a great start we must say! Banita Sandhu See you in #October A post shared by Banita Sandhu (@banita.sandhu) on Sep 3, 2017 at 11:28am PDT Varun Dhawan's 'October' is a much talked-about film but it is Banita Sandhu who will be seen along with him. While most people have to wait before they get a huge chance like this, Banita is making her big debut with Shoojit Sircar's film. The 18-year-old actress is an NRI and has been acting since the age of 11. Before this, she was seen in Doublemint ad commercial. Nora Fatehi Throwback to this lovely picture shot by @nandininm â¤ï¸ Hair and makeup @marcepedrozo #norafatehi #photography #photooftheday A post shared by Nora Fatehi (@norafatehi) on Jan 4, 2018 at 11:03pm PST Well, she made her Bollywood debut with 'Roar' but not many know about her. She is an Indo-Canadian dancer and model who will be seen in Sameer Soni's 'My Birthday Song' in a full-fledged role. It is a psychological thriller which features Sanjay Suri as the protagonist and the trailer has received some positive response. We have seen Nora in various special appearances or dance numbers on movies, but seeing her playing a pivotal role would be fun. Zain Khan Durrani What should I say? We keep speaking all the time as it is. Now for me to write and fill your mind, when you're own thoughts are probably stuck, lost, numb or just utterly chaotic... would be exactly the job of a writer. But my mind too has been restless. Full of doubts and chaos and noise. Sometimes just hollow actually. The kind of hollow in the chest that you can't cry out, or let out, fill up, express or even coat in some tears. No, it stays. Like it's going to be there for good. I stopped fighting it. Recently. Only recently. When I found out how important this hollow was for me. I shout into it every now and then and the echo reminds me of my existence in a spectacular way. It's not an adventure out in the woods, but one within me. It's a gradual, slow and steady acceptance of my demons. Of my flaws and my errors and my misgivings and my innate fallible nature. I will desist from using lofty poetic terms like flight and freedom here because I want to keep it as dark as it is. Its dark, yes but it's sweet. It's honey tasted in the dark. I don't know if that means anything, but I don't know if this hollow means anything beyond reminding me of the resonance of nothing inside me. As everything lives, nothing too breathes. And it's illicit. It's within. It's here that the birth of you and me occurs. Inside our dark. It's very kind. Actually. The big abyss. It's takes you in from one end and let's you out at the other. Like telling you; it's not always important to be just feeling and running and chasing and even struggling. Sometimes it's utterly important to be unimportant. Within yourself. That's when you start the truest love. That's not the beginning of life as such. But that's the hug of that utmost despair and sadness and the warmth under its cheek. And then I begin walking back. The hollow and the sea both inside me. I walk in the middle. The good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes choosing, sometimes chosen. Mostly, just struggling to remain true. #writer #writing #writer #words #wordporn #love #writeup #shorts #life #philosophy #void #acceptance #mind #aspire #dream #hollow #actor #artist #art #literature #poet #poetry #poem #zkd A post shared by Zain Khan Durrani (@zainkhandurrani) on Sep 16, 2017 at 10:06am PDT Grey-eyed handsome model Zain Khan Durrani will be next seen in an upcoming SaReGaMa production Toodlee films movie 'Kuch Bheege Alfaaz'. It's been a while since we saw a new male face, so we are really looking forward to this debut. Mithila Palkar ð£ Props @varshaharlalka Also, big shout out to @veromodaindia for sending in the holiday cheer! ð¸ @pratikvatkar #Australia2017 A post shared by Mithila Palkar (@mipalkarofficial) on Dec 24, 2017 at 12:33am PST YouTube sensation Mithila Palkar created a stir on the web world with her cheeky acting in 'Girl In The City'. 12. India?s space program has a budget of around $4 billion and Modi?s government hopes the latest launches will improve its prospects of winning a larger share of the more than $300 billion global space industry-File Photo (AFP) NEW DELHI: India launched its 100th satellite on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to project the country as a global low-cost provider of services in space. A total of 31 small satellites were launched into space on Friday. More than half of the micro and nano satellites were for the Unites States, and the remainder India, Canada, Finland, France, South Korea and the United Kingdom. ?The launch of the 100th satellite by @isro signifies both its glorious achievements and also the bright future of India?s space program,? Modi said on Twitter. India?s space program has a budget of around $4 billion and Modi?s government hopes the latest launches will improve its prospects of winning a larger share of the more than $300 billion global space industry. Modi?s government has been promoting a domestic space program as a demonstration of low-cost technology and last February launched 104 satellites in a single mission, most of them for foreign customers. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) used its workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C40), part of an advanced remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2 series or ?eye in the sky?, for the Friday launch from Sriharikota in southern Andhra Pradesh state at 9.28 a.m. (3:58 GMT). The rocket weighs about 1,323 kgs, said a senior official at state-run ISRO, who did not wish to be named. India will use its latest satellites for better border surveillance and obtaining high resolution images of the earth. ?PSLV-C40 is a highly sophisticated surveillance tool to keep an eye on Indian borders and will help the government track progress of infrastructure projects,? said Pallava Bagla, a science writer and co-author of ?Reaching for the Stars: India?s Journey to Mars.? Two scientists at ISRO said images collected by the satellites will be used by the Indian security agencies to track military activities in neighboring Pakistan, China, Bangladesh Sri Lanka and Nepal. Pakistan expresses concern The Pakistan Foreign Office on Thursday expressed concern over India?s plan to send satellites into space, allegedly for spying purposes. India intends to send 31 satellites into space on Saturday (January 13), with reports suggesting that the satellites have been fitted with spying devices, he said. India should refrain from military use of space technology and [such measures] that could disrupt the balance of power in the region, Faisal stated.

Someday this war’s gonna end…" One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest We're really hoping you've read the book. If you haven't, you probably don't know the significance of this in the list. During the charity gala, the auctioneer announced the opportunity to watch an episode with Emilia Clarke, who was in attendance at the event, along with her co-star Kit Harington. © Twitter The auction began at $20,000 and escalated very quickly as Pitt announced that he would pay $80,000 for the prize. However, when Harington offered to also sit in on the episode viewing, Pitt raised his own bid to $120,000. But alas, Pitt was outbid by a woman and her husband who ended the auction at $160,000. via GIPHY Although the money is supposed to go for charity, you have to agree that paying thousands of dollars to watch an episode is way too much to handle.
  16. WASHINGTON: The US State Department has placed Pakistan on a Special Watch List for what it claims are "severe violations of religious freedom". In a press statement on Thursday, the State Department said it has also re-designated 10 countries as "countries of particular concern" under the country's International Religious Freedom Act for having engaged in or tolerated egregious violations of religious freedom. "Today, the Department of State announces that the Secretary of State re-designated Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan as Countries of Particular Concern on December 22, 2017," said the State Department. "The Secretary also placed Pakistan on a Special Watch List for severe violations of religious freedom," it added. The move against Pakistan comes amid a period of heightened tensions between the two nations, after US president Donald Trump said that Washington had foolishly given Pakistan more than $33 billion in aid over the last 15 years. In a tweet on Monday, Trump accused Pakistan of giving nothing but lies and deceit, thinking US leaders to be fools. "They give safe havens to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!" he had said. Trump's tweet was followed by the US withholding $255 million in aid to Islamabad, accusing Pakistan of failing to cooperate fully in the fight against terrorism. "The administration is withholding $255 million in assistance to Pakistan. There are clear reasons for this. Pakistan has played a double game for years," US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told reporters on Tuesday. "They work with us at times, and they also harbour the terrorists that attack our troops in Afghanistan," she said. "That game is not acceptable to this administration. We expect far more cooperation from Pakistan in the fight against terrorism," she added. "The president is willing to go to great lengths to stop all funding from Pakistan as they continue to harbour terrorists." Shortly afterwards, the White House said it wanted to see Pakistan "do more to fight terrorism" and that it would likely announce further actions to pressure Islamabad within days. "Our goal is that we know that they can do more to stop terrorism and we want them to do that," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters. "In terms of specific actions, I think you'll see some more details come out on that in the next 24 to 48 hours." Last month, Pakistan joined more than 120 countries to defy the US president and vote in favour of a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution calling for America to drop its recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel?s capital. But, addressing reporters at the United Nations on Tuesday, Haley said the Pakistan aid issue was not connected to the vote on Jerusalem, adding, "It is entirely connected to Pakistan's harbouring of terrorists." "However, as I said earlier in December, we won't forget the Jerusalem vote," she had said.

While bowlers from every corner of the globe carefully devised plans and strategies to outsmart him, the Little Master always seemed to have the last laugh. Similarly, Brett Lee also had his duels with Tendulkar that brought the dream contest of an aggressive seamer and a technically-sound batsman to the fore. One such occasion, while Lee managed to rattle the stumps of the star batsman, Tendulkar's delightful upper-cut using the sheer pace of the former Aussie cricketer truly blessed international cricket. Reuters Both Tendulkar and Lee have retired from all forms of cricket. But, recently, the two cricket icons once again came face-to-face in yet another duel, only this time, the cricket field was replaced with a race track. Tendulkar and Lee were engrossed in a closely-fought battle in Go-Karting before the Indian cricket legend emerged victorious. @sachin_rt and I had some great battles on the field. 22. 2017 has been a great year when it comes to films in the horror genre. Right from novel adaptations to prequels, horror films kept us glued to our seats and gave us major spooks. Where on one hand, 'It' smashed all box office records and gained immense popularity in the opening weekend, the 'Conjuring' series presented another version of the demonic doll 'Annabelle' and attracted record-breaking footfall at the theatres. Here are the top 10 horror movies, which made 2017 a historic year. It Directed by Andy Muschietti, 'It' broke all records and became the highest grossing horror film of all time. The haunting bogeyman of Stephen King's novel was devilish and spookier than the previous version of the film. The story builds up when a small boy named George disappears inside a drain while running behind his boat. The series of incidents that follow later are meaningful and scary enough to cause jitters. 'It' or Pennywise, the dancing clown made us realize that a horror movie is just not about fear but more than that. Get Out Nominated for his first Golden Globe, actor Daniel Kaluyya describes the film as a well-documented version of everyday experiences. This thriller cum horror has a plot that sends chills down your spine and keeps you glued till the end. 'Get Out' is nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and star Daniel Kaluuya scored a Best Actor nomination in the category for Golden Globes. Annabelle: Creation 'Annabelle: Creation' is the fourth film in the 'Conjuring' franchise. The film depicts how the cursed doll came into being and killed many through her evil existence. The demon inside the doll possesses a teenage orphan and makes her kill others. Split Directed by celebrated director M. Night Shyamalan, the film is based on the existence of 23 different personalities inside an individual. James McAvoy beautifully carries out the role and arouses the real 'beast' in him. This is a performance of a lifetime and is worthy of many awards this season. Raw A teenage French-Belgian horror drama depicts cannibalism at its best. A young girl's taste for human skin is intoxicating and thrilling at the same time. 'Raw' has no space for criticism, but applause. Prevenge The characters in 'Prevenge' are expressive and easily make you delve into imagination, it would be better to call it a 'slasher', right on its mark. Directed by Alice Lowe, the story of a pregnant serial killer is much consuming and smartly puts the viewer in amazement. Gerald's Game Another Stephen King's story comes to the big screen with a captivating screenplay and great performances. A combo of horror and thrill, the film is based on how a *** game turns into the worst form of terror for Jessie, whose husband Gerald dies during the game while she is handcuffed. The Shape of Water Directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, the film has received seven Golden Globe nominations this year. Described as a 'creature feature and a melodrama' by Business Insider, the film presents a compelling story of a mute woman serving as a cleaning lady at a top-secret United States government lab during the 1960s, when she develops a relationship with a creature in the lab. A Dark Song This Irish horror is a story of a woman and an occultist played by Catherine Walker and Steve Oram respectively, who indulge into practicing black-magic rituals and fall prey to something terrifying – A result of witchcraft. This is a powerful portrayal of how a minimum budget film yields a worth-watch affair. Mother Jennifer Lawrence tries stepping into different shoes every time, and this time her performance is noteworthy. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, 'Mother' is pretty similar to 1968 film 'Rosemary's Baby'. Though the film has been called an artist's auto-critique, Javier Bardem and Lawrence together make it a strong affair.
  23. Time and again, MS Dhoni has proved that he is one of the best cricketers the Indian Team has ever got and there is no doubt about his skills as an absolute star. However, with new and young talent joining the squad, there have been times when critics have jumped on the opportunity to compare Dhoni with the newcomers. But leave it to Dhoni to prove all his critics wrong. Well-known for his obsession with being extremely fit, he proved that newcomers probably have nothing on him when it comes to fitness. And that includes youngsters like Hardik Pandya. Ahead of the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka in Mohali, the Indian Cricket Team performed their warm-up routines. Pretty usual right? But what was unusual was seeing Hardik Pandya and Dhoni heading for a 100-metre sprint with the latter outpacing the former. BCCI tweeted a video showing the two running and asked the audience as to who they think won. “A quick 100 metre dash between @msdhoni and @hardikpandya7. Any guesses on who won it in the end?” Pandya who is just 24 years old and is 12 years younger than Dhoni could not keep up with the former captain as for a short while, Dhoni was ahead of the youngster.
