Rashid Khan: Sunrisers Hyderabads Rs 4-Cr IPL Signing Creates History In T20Is

After becoming the highest-paid Afghanistan cricketer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in February, leg-spinner Rashid Khan has now notched up a unique feat in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

It just took a mere 12 deliveries for the 18-year-old rising star to clinch a five-wicket haul in the shortest version of the game. Before him, no one had ever taken a five-for in as little time as two overs in the history of T20Is.

The record, though, was merely a byproduct of his ability to vary pace, prey on the pressure the Ireland batsmen felt and then toss up the hit-me ball, which invariably turned out to be a googly that bamboozled everyone. The slogs came, the stumps were broken, the rest became history.

Bowling against Ireland in the second T20I of the three-match series, Rashid dismissed Kevin O'Brien and Gary Wilson on the deceiving googly. In six balls he scalped two wickets giving away just three runs.

The leggie came back in the ninth over to dismiss Lorcan Tucker in his very first ball. In the fourth delivery, frustrated Greg Thompson stepped out for the big one, but the googly struck again. In walked debutant Bary McCarthy and LBW it was, to send him back for a duck.

Although Rashid missed his hat-trick, but the leg-spinner claimed a triple-wicket maiden. His sensational figures of 5/3 in just two overs scripted Afghanistan's 17-run victory over the Irishmen.

Their victory in the second match propelled Afghanistan's winning streak to 10 matches in the shortest format - a world record for most consecutive wins in T20Is.
