  1. As the Covid-19 spike continues to baffle the world, the déjà vu feeling of 2020 lockdown seeps in and it's not a great feeling. While most countries took the spike seriously and have some strict lockdown measures in place, our government has taken some sweet time to muse on what to do. Infact, in a parallel universe, the ‘Kumbh Mela’ and the lakhs of devotees taking ‘ shahi snan’ in the holy Ganges has appalled everyone on social media. As some states are badly hit, the onus on whether the capital city affords a lockdown was in the limelight. A while ago, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a weekend lockdown in the capital. Only essential services will be allowed, cinema halls with a 30% capacity will function, malls, gyms and spas will remain shut. BIG BREAKING Weekend curfew in #Delhi. CM @ArvindKejriwal announces 1. Essential services allowed 2. Special pass for weddings 3. Gyms, spas, auditoriums, malls to be shut 4. No dine-in at restaurants anymore 5. Only delivery allowed 6. Cinema halls to operate at 30 % capacity pic.twitter.com/3Jh0iiB5PR — DaaruBaaz Mehta (@DaaruBaazMehta) April 15, 2021 The measure has been taken to control the sudden spike in cases in Delhi, which recorded over 17,000 cases in a single day. Curfew passes for attending weddings will be given for those who need it. the curfew timings will be from Friday 6 Pm to Monday 6 am. While this seems to be a brilliant decision, considering what is happening in the state, some people obviously had a few thoughts and concerns which they didn’t shy away from exhibiting. M@lls band rahenge aur cinema joki mall me hi hote hai wo 30% capacity me chalenge , wahan sadd ji wah Dilli walo u deserve him only — bhaiyafromup (@bhaiyafromup) April 15, 2021Cinema kisko dekhne ka shauk chadha hai corona aur curfew mein 🤦#Delhi — dhiraj (@dkbharati) April 15, 2021Why are Cinema Halls open? What kind of curfew is that? Educational institutions closed but people need the cinema?? — Sahima Hannan Datta (@SahimaDatta) April 15, 2021The chief minister has also announced that an adequate number of beds will be arranged and the state government is doing its best to assure treatment is provided. In the end, while we continue to suffer and businesses continue to struggle, it's important to understand that our security is in our own hands. Stay safe and stay home! View the full article
  2. As the fight to tackle the problem of Coronavirus continues to cripple the entire world, all countries are trying to do their best to control the pandemic. While India had previously been ranked on good numbers in comparison to many countries as far as battling this was concerned, the recent spike in 11 states across the nation has worried the government. Since Delhi is the capital city, it is seemingly economically impossible for the Centre to impose a lockdown. Yesterday, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that a curfew will be imposed from 10 PM to 5 AM in Delhi until 30th April. Many party-goers and ‘gedi’ lovers were sad to hear that. Today, the Delhi High Court has passed a new declaration that wearing a mask while driving alone is also compulsory now. The idea behind this is that since vehicles are moving in public places, everyone is still under the risk of being exposed to the virus. Delhi High Court rules mask mandatory even if a person is driving alone. It states that a mask acts as a 'suraksha kavach' which would prevent the spread of COVID19. pic.twitter.com/litzyIQ4iN — ANI (@ANI) April 7, 2021 The ruling has confused the ‘janta’ of the state and people are very confused why one should wear a mask while driving alone. Naturally, they had to express how they feel with some memes. Delhi High Court: compulsory to wear mask Even if a person is driving alone in the car. pic.twitter.com/VE6UjNcHoz — Priyanshi (Naam hi kaafi Hai) (@y_priyanshi) April 7, 2021Le Judge Sahib : pic.twitter.com/ggSqeyzWW7 — Lady Nisha (@Lady_nishaaa) April 7, 2021Le Judge saheb to Petitioners- pic.twitter.com/wXGhlPnGFD — VAIBHAV ANITA SINGH (@Vaibhvtweets) April 7, 2021 Some people were just filled with rage and confusion and had some very legit questions to ask. These are laws passed in parliament and being enforced. Hows wearing a mask same? Next you gonna hear is its a mst to wear pp kits all time, carry a ventilator in ur car cuz its a protective thing. And why just in public why not at home too? There r laws against domestic violence — Lastaccblkmara:( (@shyammeranaam) April 7, 2021In a private vehicle if u r alone then what's the need of a mask? Don't they know that mask has also some harmful effects if we use it for too long. Judiciary needs to look into this matter again. Think rationally Delhi High court. 🏻 — Shubam (@B_shubam) April 7, 2021If a Pvt car is a public place, does that mean anyone can enter into my car without my permission? #DelhiHighCourt #mask #india #covid #Delhi https://t.co/6MEZjCA4yx — RPG (@rahoolgupta) April 7, 2021 Also, some were quick to point out that while the ‘aam admi’ shall suffer and end up paying fines for not wearing masks while driving alone, what penalties are the party leaders paying for hosting rallies with not a single mask in sight. Wearing mask when driving alone in a car is mandatory by law in New Delhi. Election rallies with thousands without masks does not raise any eyebrows in India. — Aditya Raj Kaul (@AdityaRajKaul) April 7, 2021And the honorable courts don't say anything to the protestors who have been crowding and blocking roads. Don't say anything to political parties for massive rallies. No rule for the mob. Catch hold of an individual and show your power. With all due respect! — Swami (@imswami) April 7, 2021Yes person alone in car must alwar a mask but political rallies dont require it? Courts also now insulate political events from its purview? Or in new normal courts are governed by govt? — Cynical Eye (@Pseudoidealist) April 7, 2021The court has explained that the mask acts as a ‘suraksha kavach’ and hence must be worn by the driver. Are you ready to put on a mask and click a ‘maskfie’ while driving alone, sweating it out in the heat and chant ‘go corona go’ as Delhi’s traffic moves slowly around you? 4. Delhi government has imposed a night curfew with immediate effect from today as Coronavirus cases are surging in the country. The night curfew will be effective from 10 pm to 5am till 30th April. Now the micro-containment zones are being set up in places where there are two or more cases. It is also being said that the sudden rise in the COVID-19 cases is as people are not following proper social distancing norms and proper Coronavirus guidelines. Apart from Delhi, other states that imposed night curfew include other states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Odisha, Gujarat, and Punjab. This has been done to contain the surge in Covid-19 cases. 5. On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals announced that 23-year-old Rishabh Pant is set to become the new captain of the franchise ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament with a severe shoulder injury. ANNOUNCEMENT Rishabh Pant will be our Captain for #IPL2021 @ShreyasIyer15 has been ruled out of the upcoming season following his injury in the #INDvENG series and @RishabhPant17 will lead the team in his absence 🧢#YehHaiNayiDilli — Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) March 30, 2021 “Rishabh Pant will be our Captain for #IPL2021 @ShreyasIyer15 has been ruled out of the upcoming season following his injury in the #INDvENG series and @RishabhPant17 will lead the team in his absence,” read Delhi Capitals’ Twitter post. During the first of three ODIs between India and England at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Iyer had suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder which led to him being ruled out of the England series and the 2021 season of the Indian T20 league as well. I’ve been reading your messages and have been overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone. You know what they say, the greater the setback, the stronger the comeback. I shall be back soon ️ pic.twitter.com/RjZTBAnTMX — Shreyas Iyer (@ShreyasIyer15) March 25, 2021 In his absence, fans and critics of the game got involved in a tough debate about who the next leader of the squad should be, given Capitals’ arsenal of talented and experienced players. Names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, and Steve Smith were some that make it through to the top of the line with youngsters Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant also making a couple of cameos. However, reacting to the team’s decision to make Pant the skipper has left a majority of their followers stunned and a little disappointed, even the ones loyal to the southpaw, himself. Really poor decision, Rahane or Ashwin should have led the side , even Smith would have been better option. I hope extra burden of captaincy doesn't hamper Pant's — Pratik Parikh (@PratikParikh05) March 30, 2021While @ashwinravi99 and @stevesmith49 is In the Team....Yyy u Made Pant as a Captain...Come On @DelhiCapitals He dint Even Captain One Match In International.. — Praga (@Praga_31) March 30, 2021Big Pant fan but this is a bad call. Will affect his performance — Jarl (@Jarl_AFC) March 30, 2021LoL Why the management had made this wrong decision , he was playing good for the couple of months , now captain will have more pressure to bat. I thought Rahane or Smith will be the captain ☹️ — ⭐ Rajesh ⭐ (@itisrajeshkc) March 30, 2021Pant has been phenomenal for the Men in Blue as a middle-order batsman. Getting the call to replace Iyer in the India-England series allowed him an avenue to show off his versatility as a batsman, dominating in both red and white-ball cricket. Ironically, this also becomes the very reason why Pant’s captaincy becomes a big reason to worry about. While absolutely lethal as a hitter, being put under the burden of being a franchise skipper, that too with some of the biggest legends of the game playing as subordinates might just end up throwing Pant off his form - at least that’s what the fans on Twitter feel. View this post on Instagram Making it to the finals of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, only to lose by Rohit Sharma and his Mumbai Indians squad by five wickets, Delhi Capitals made their team significantly better by adding an ace batsman like Steve Smith to their roster during the mini-auction. However, the loss of Shreyas Iyer will definitely leave a huge gap in their middle order and Pant’s development as a player and now as a captain will be put to a difficult test. View the full article
  6. Ajay Devgn found himself in midst of a controversy after a video of a brawl outside Delhi's Aerocity mall made its way to the Internet. When the video went viral, many claimed that it’s the actor who was beaten up during the brawl. Yes, you read that right. The video has two groups fighting outside the mall which resulted in them flouting COVID protocols. A quarrel broke out between them after one of their vehicles 'slightly touched' the other. People on social media thought that Ajay was a part of this brawl but as soon as his team got to know about the same, they issued a clarification on the actor’s part and said that he hasn’t traveled to Delhi post the promotion of his last film, Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior. The statement reads, "Post the promotion of Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior in January 2020, Actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgn has not visited Delhi. So media reports of a brawl involving the superstar outside a Delhi pub are absolutely baseless and untrue. We request news agencies and media to please note that Mr. Devgn has been in Mumbai the entire time shooting for Maidaan, MayDay, and Gangubai Kathiawadu and he hasn’t set foot in the Capital in 14 months. Request all media to please cross-check before putting out anything. Spokesperson to Mr. Ajay Devgn." He tweeted, “Some ‘doppelgänger’ of mine seems to have got into trouble. I’ve been getting concerned calls. Just clarifying, I’ve not traveled anywhere. All reports regarding me being in any brawl are baseless. Happy Holi.” Some ‘doppelgänger’ of mine seems to have got into trouble. I’ve been getting concerned calls. 7. During the first of three ODIs between India and England, Shreyas Iyer got severely injured while trying to stop the ball from rushing towards the boundary. Based on the medical reports, the 26-year-old suffered subluxation of his left shoulder which had initially ruled him out only for the remainder of the series. However, recent reports confirmed that Iyer’s injury is more serious than expected and that the middle-order batsman will have to sit out of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League too. I’ve been reading your messages and have been overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone. You know what they say, the greater the setback, the stronger the comeback. I shall be back soon ️ pic.twitter.com/RjZTBAnTMX — Shreyas Iyer (@ShreyasIyer15) March 25, 2021 One of the top batsmen in the shortest format of the game, Iyer’s injury causes serious damage to Delhi Capitals, the IPL franchise he has been the captain of for the past couple of seasons. And while the hitter’s condition has left DC chairman Parth Jindal “seriously devastated”, the talent-laden roster boasts enough leadership skills to find a suitable replacement for Iyer’s captaincy before IPL 2021 kicks off. Absolutely devastated and gutted for our skipper @ShreyasIyer15 - stay strong captain - hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup. @DelhiCapitals @BCCI — Parth Jindal (@ParthJindal11) March 25, 2021 The point remains exactly who, out of these elite-level players should and will, lead the team that made it to the runners-up spot last year. Delhi Capitals fans on social media came up with four leads in Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane: In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who should lead @DelhiCapitals in #IPL2021? 🧐🧐🧐 — Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) March 25, 2021Ajinkya. No second thoughts.. — Aishu Haridas (@imaishu_) March 25, 2021Pant or Rahane maybe — Aditya Saha (@adityakumar480) March 25, 2021Ashwin, shaw or smith — Himanshu Aggarwal (@Himansh52450968) March 25, 2021I also feel so. It should be someone from Gabbar or Jinx. May be outside chance of Ashwin... Pant is good. But it will be too much responsibility for him. — Vinay Bharambe (@VinayBharambe) March 25, 2021Why Prithvi Shaw? View this post on Instagram Struggling to perform for the Indian cricket team in Australia, Shaw was benched after yet another disappointing stint in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. Ever since Shaw has shown incredible form during the Vijay Hazare Trophy in which he not only led the Mumbai squad to the championship but also booked records like most runs in a season and highest score in an innings under his name. Shaw also possesses captaincy experience from his U-19 days when India won the U-19 World Cup in his leadership in 2018. Why Rishabh Pant? View this post on Instagram Over the last couple of series against Australia and England, Rishabh Pant has evolved from just being a big-hitter into becoming a true voice in the Indian locker room. His ability to keep the team morale high during testing times was put on display during the Test series against the two top-level teams and his focus to get the squad out of troubling situations while acting as the finisher has become more and more trust-worthy. Why Shikhar Dhawan? View this post on Instagram Coming off his best IPL season in 2020, Dhawan was one of the biggest reasons why Delhi Capitals were able to make it through the regular season, playoffs, and into the finals. He scored more than 600 runs for the first time and even held the incredible record of becoming the only player in the history of the league to have smashed back-to-back centuries. Based on his performance in the first ODI against England, fans are convinced that Gabbar still has a lot of cricket to offer to whichever team he plays for and can lead the squad to yet another successful year, not just as a top-order batsman but also as the skipper. Why Ajinkya Rahane? View this post on Instagram Considering the fact that Rahane was not even a top choice to make it to the Playing XI spot for the better half of the 2020 season, his name might feel a bit odd in this discussion in the first glace. However, when it comes to captaincy, Rahane has shown that he understands and executes team management in a strategic manner, albeit in the longest format of the game. It might also be worth mentioning that in 140 IPL innings that the batsman has played, he has scored 3,933 runs, with two centuries and 28 half-centuries to show off. View the full article
  8. The much-debated and heated battle of power between the Delhi Government and the Centre has taken a surprising turn after the NCT Amendment bill 2021 was passed in the Lok Sabha. The bill gives more power to the Lieutenant governor of Delhi as compared to the ruling-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media and marked this amendment as an ‘insult’ to the people of Delhi who democratically elected a government. Passage of GNCTD amendment Bill in Lok Sabha today is an insult to the people of Delhi. The Bill effectively takes away powers from those who were voted by people and gives powers to run Delhi to those who were defeated. BJP has cheated the people — Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) March 22, 2021 The AAP and Congress leaders opposed this bill strongly in the Assembly and even tagged it as 'unconstitutional'. Basically, to decrypt the new amendment, the Legislative Assembly will define ‘government’ as Lieutenant Governor and it makes a mandate for the governing party to take his nod on every decision. Meanwhile, this new bill has caused a storm of emotions and people are sharing their views on how it makes a Dilliwala feel. More than 2 crore people of Delhi elected a goverment. People in every constituency elected their own representatives. It's not about Arvind Kejriwal or AAP, it's about the people. Their vote has been reduced to nothing. #BJPCheatedDelhi — Abhijeet Dipke (@abhijeet_dipke) March 22, 2021The proposed bill which will reduce the elected Delhi government to a government in name only while giving overarching powers to an unelected authority is dangerous for democracy. Elected state governments are being overturned, harassed or in this case rendered powerless. — Rohini Singh (@rohini_sgh) March 16, 2021No great liking for Arvind Kejriwal but the law reducing the powers of an elected government is really worrying — Prosenjit Datta (@ProsaicView) March 23, 2021While others feel that the AAP government is probably just threatened and this might be a good decision after all. Yes, Its about Delhi only where BJP won all Lokasabha seats and empowered BJP to bring these type of legislation. Delhi is happy. https://t.co/zHBrj07MAf — ناقابل مزاحمت (@tamashbeen_) March 23, 2021 The whole debate on social media right now is around the BJP trying to 'overtake power' in the capital of the country and how it may adversely affect the future of the citizens. More than that, it instils a fear of insecurity in the people because if a democratic decision can be turned around by a bill, then maybe it will become very hard for us to believe that we are indeed a democracy. 9. Australian batsman Steve Smith became the first player to be sold during the 2021 IPL mini-auction as the unorthodox hitter got himself a Rs. 2.2 crore deal ahead of the 14th edition of the tournament with Delhi Capitals. Last year’s runners up, the Delhi side is already loaded with some of the top-scoring batsmen in the league at the moment including the in-form Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, and a very capable strong man in Marnus Stoinis leading their batting attack. View this post on Instagram Then why would they need someone like Smith to further strengthen their lineup, or maybe it was the impact of the DC head coach, Ricky Ponting, who really wanted his man in the squad? Fans of the Capitals were scratching their heads and were confused what had just happened on Twitter: #DelhiCapitals don't know what to say about #SteveSmith. #ponting may have some plans for Steve in delhi. In her request for protection from arrest, the now allegedly “absconding” Nikita has asked for a copy of the FIR and has alleged that Delhi Police came to her Mumbai home last Thursday with a search warrant and seized gadgets and documents. © Reuters Besides, Muluk too has approached the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court with a request for protection from arrest. Delhi police has issued non-bailable warrants against both of them. Moreover, Jacob also alleged that her personal information is being spread on social media through trolls and bots. The Bombay High Court will today hear Nikita Jacob’s request for protection from arrest for four weeks. All three (Disha, Nikita and Shantanu) prepared the Google document and shared it, Delhi Police said, as per the reports. View the full article
  11. Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police on Tuesday on charges of instigating violence at the time of the tractor rally on Republic Day. Delhi police’s crime branch has been trying to find him for the past few days since several farmers accused him of playing an integral role in creating ruckus at Red Fort on 26th January. Just after the violence that took place on January 26, Sidhu uploaded a Facebook video the next day saying that the incident should not be given any communal color nor the protestors should be called fundamentalists or hardliners. Deep Sidhu had released a new video while he was hiding and he could be seen crying and venting in anger in the video and cried particularly as farmers and Punjabis branded him a ‘traitor’. He said, "I have raised the voice of Punjab and its people. I was branded a traitor. There were 5 lakh people at the Red Fort, including singers and leaders, but only one (I) was singled out.” Here’s what people on Twitter have to say about the arrest of Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu- #deepsidhu arrested. 12. So much has been normalized in the last year - boycotting something you find mildly offensive, targeting people, and personally attacking them if they don't share the same viewpoints as you, filing FIRs for basically no reason. A lot of people have said that taking offence has become a new national hobby, apparently, and every single day that is proved right by multiple people. Recently, activist Greta Thunberg showed her support for the farmers protesting in India and shared how people can actually protest all over the world and help the cause. © Reuters Even after being trolled for it, she's still not backing down. She's showing support, and she, along with Rihanna, has helped push one of the biggest protests to a global level. Here’s an updated toolkit by people on the ground in India if you want to help. (They removed their previous document as it was outdated.)#StandWithFarmers #FarmersProtesthttps://t.co/ZGEcMwHUNL — Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) February 3, 2021 Of course, that resulted in the entire debate about how this is India's 'internal matter' and outsiders shouldn't comment on it, even though it has gone way past that and become a human rights crisis. When farmers were dying, no celebrity bothered speaking up, but when 'outsiders' got involved, all of them woke up to reiterate that this is an internal matter in the same words. Side note, why didn't they follow their advice when they were posting black squares for Black Lives Matter? Hmm, much to think about. Coming back to Greta, the 18-year-old Swedish environmental activist is now a target for the Delhi Police as reportedly they are filing an FIR against her for her tweets in support of farmers. #Breaking | Delhi Police to file an FIR against Greta Thunberg over tweets on farmers' protests. Details by Priyank Tripathi. pic.twitter.com/ixpImdeAhp — TIMES NOW (@TimesNow) February 4, 2021 Greta has graciously responded to the development saying that she's not backing down. I still #StandWithFarmers and support their peaceful protest. No amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change that. #FarmersProtest — Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) February 4, 2021 But, the question is what will this FIR even result in? Greta is obviously not from India, let alone Delhi. How are they going to arrest her? Is it a ploy to get an international trip in order to arrest her even though they have no jurisdiction outside of Delhi? So many questions, not a single answer. Hmm. However, the decision was withdrawn after the tractor rally became violent on Republic Day. © BCCL On January 26, a farmers' procession turned violent, as some protesters broke away from a rally of tractors to storm into the historic Red Fort complex after breaking through barricades and clashing with police. In the past few days, more farmers have arrived in the capital along with their tractors to join their protesting colleagues at the three major protest sites near New Delhi. The Delhi police have also adapted new armours after the farmers’ rally turned violent on Republic Day. To defend themselves, the police have been offered what seem to be metal gloves and a special metal lathi with armour around the grip extending to the palms of their hands. This comes in days after the police were attacked by weapon yielding goons who tried to disguise themselves as farmers participating in the rally, resulting in injuries for a few cops. Hopefully, the new armour will help protect the police from such attacks, but only time will tell how effective the new gear is. According to news reports, a stretch of road in Andrews Ganj in south Delhi will soon be named after the late actor, as the area's civic body has cleared a proposal for it, officials said on Thursday. © Fox Star Studios Sushant, who would have turned 35 on Thursday, was found dead at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on June 14 last year. The Dil Bechara actor's fans and admirers from the B-Town took to social media to pay emotional tributes to the actor whose untimely demise was followed by a high-profile investigation. © MensXP Reports suggest that SDMC's Congress councillor Abhishek Dutt in September 2020 had moved the proposal to name the road after the actor. "It was cleared by the SDMC House in its meeting yesterday," a senior official said. The Andrews Ganj councillor in the BJP-led South Delhi Municipal Corporation had sent the proposal to the civic body's road naming and renaming committee. What Reports Suggest In the written proposal to the committee, Dutt had said that a large number of people living in the area abutting Road No 8 hail from Bihar, and had claimed "they have been demanding" to name the stretch from Andrews Ganj to Indira Camp as 'Sushant Singh Rajput Marg'. © Instagram/Sushant Singh Rajput So, it is proposed that Road No 8 be named after the actor in his memory, Dutt had said. 17. There's been a lot of discussion about WhatsApp and its questionable privacy policy lately. A huge chunk of people have even decided to ditch the app for other alternatives. WhatsApp has extended the deadline to accept its new privacy policy, which means there's still some time to reflect and make a well-informed decision. Meanwhile, the Delhi High court has spoken about the new privacy policy of social messaging app. It pointed out that accepting the new WhatsApp privacy policy is a "voluntary" thing and one can always choose to not use or join it. It's more like a general reminder to people pointing out how it's not mandatory to use any app in particular and there always some alternatives out there. © Unsplash "It is a private app. Don't join it. It is a voluntary thing, don't accept it. Use some other app," Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva said to the petitioner who challenged WhatsApp's new privacy policy. Additionally, the court also said if the terms and conditions of most mobile apps are read, then we'd be surprised as to what all we are consenting to. "Even Google maps captures all your data and stores it," the court said. WhatsApp and Facebook, represented by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Mukul Rohatgi, made it a point to note that the plea was not maintainable and many of the issues were raised without any foundation. They also told the court that all messages shared between friends and family would remain encrypted and cannot be stored by WhatsApp and none of that changes under the new policy. For those of you who don't know, the new policy would only affect the business chats on WhatsApp and it doesn't affect the normal chats for all its users. The petition against the app on the court contended that the updated privacy policy violates users' right to privacy under the Constitution. © Unsplash For now, the Delhi High court has pushed the hearing to January 25 saying the issues require further consideration. The central government also agreed with the court that the issue needs to be analyzed. We'll be keeping an eye on this issue to see how it unfolds, so stay tuned for more info. 20. The ongoing protest by the farmers around the Delhi border is only getting grave with each passing day as more and more people come in support of the farmers. The farmers have been protesting sitting in the chilling winters of the national capital. But it is also causing a lot of hardship for the residents of Delhi/NCR, mostly people who have to travel for work as the borders continue to be blocked for weeks now. The farmers expressed how they appreciate the support of the people and also said that they don’t intend to disrupt the life of the common people and have apologized for the inconvenience caused. © BCCL The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha distributed pamphlets on Monday to commuters who were driving on the Jaipur-Delhi highway near Haryana-Rajasthan borders where hundreds of farmers have been staying put to protest and also reiterate their demand for a legal guarantee for MSP. The handbill given to the commuters read as, “Blocking roads, causing inconvenience to the public is not our aim. We are sitting here under a compulsion. Yet we apologize with folded hands if our agitation has caused you any inconvenience.” It also said that they don’t want any charity and all they want is a fair price for their crops. They expressed that they want to enter Delhi and put their demands in front of Narendra Modi. © BCCL The pamphlet also said, “Please keep your gift with yourself. If you want to give us a gift, there should be a legal guarantee of the fair price of our crop.” In an interview with IANS, farmers leader, Baldev Singh Sirsa said, "We are empathetic towards the people of Delhi and all those people who are or would be facing problems due to our agitation but we are helpless and compelled on our end too because the demands we are fighting for today would have an integral role in the future.
