  1. Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam, and Nimrat Kaur-starrer Dasvi, directed by Tushar Jalota, finally premiered on Netflix and JioCinema yesterday (April 7). Critics are giving it a mixed response, however, the film is getting an encouraging response from fans. View this post on Instagram While celebrities usually take constructive feedback in their stride, sometimes reviewers hit below the belt for no reason. Something similar has happened with Yami Gautam, who slammed a portal for taking digs at her in their Dasvi review. While nothing has been mentioned about her performance, the review states that she is "no longer the dead girlfriend" and her "combative smile" is getting repetitive now. View this post on Instagram This irked the Vicky Donor actress who called the review "extremely disrespectful" in a series of tweets and requested the portal to "not review her performance henceforth". My recent films & performances include 'A Thursday', 'Bala', 'Uri' etc & yet this is qualified as a 'review' of my work! It's extremely disrespectful! — Yami Gautam Dhar (@yamigautam) April 7, 2022It's heartbreaking since I did look up to @FilmCompanion once upon a time, like many of us, but I don't seek that since long now! I would request you not to 'review' my performance henceforth ! I'll find grace in that & it'll be less painful. — Yami Gautam Dhar (@yamigautam) April 7, 2022 In the latest turn of events, The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri has praised Yami for speaking up against the "vicious mafia". In a tweet, he appreciated the actress and stated that her talent needs "no certificates". He tweeted, "Bravo, @yamigautam for speaking up. You need no certificates for your talent from this vicious mafia led by @anupamachopra". Take a look at his post below: Bravo, @yamigautam for speaking up. You need no certificates for your talent from this vicious mafia led by @anupamachopra. https://t.co/qFOwZ9s1PY — Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri (@vivekagnihotri) April 8, 2022 For the unversed, Yami had supported Vivek's recent release The Kashmir Files on social media last month. She even urged her followers to watch the film, which depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. View this post on Instagram Coming back to Dasvi, the film revolves around the importance of education in today's times. While Abhishek plays a politician who decides to appear for the Class 10 board exams from jail, Nimrat plays his wife. Yami, on the other hand, is essaying the role of an IPS officer. Penned by Ritesh Shah, the social comedy is bankrolled by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films in collaboration with Jio Studios. View the full article
  2. With the passage of time, cricket has progressed beyond the boundary ropes, with the communication gap between players and fans virtually disappearing. People can contact the athletes personally and have wonderful, meaningful talks with them, which can lead to a greater relationship between the two parties. Unfortunately, the inverse is also true, and individuals can be exceedingly cruel to players for no apparent reason, all in an attempt to embarrass them and cast them in a bad light in front of the rest of the world. View this post on Instagram However, if you have the sense of humour and straightforwardness of New Zealand all-rounder James alias Jimmy Neesham, you can get yourself out of sticky circumstances while leaving the rest of your fans smiling. Recently ESPNcricInfo asked their Twitter followers for their thoughts on the new rule that the Indian Premier League has decided to set in motion ahead of the 2022 edition of the league. This new regulation suggests that the new man will be facing the first ball, even if the catch was taken after the batters crossed each other on the pitch. I don’t really understand the point of this. Has this rule ever been a problem? Also rewards batsmen who don’t stay aware of the match situation. Don’t like it. https://t.co/6yPsHjFNSk — Jimmy Neesham (@JimmyNeesh) March 16, 2022 Neesham responded to the tweet expressing how he felt about the new rule and suggested that he was not a fan of it. He asked if the old rule was ever a problem or a cause of concern for the players or the officials of the game in any shape or form and that it also rewards batters who aren’t aware of the situation of the match. Despite a completely rational way of thinking and clearly explaining his thoughts when specifically asked to, an Indian cricket fan, on Wednesday, told Neesham that no one cared about his views, regardless of whether the Kiwi liked it or not. Like it or not, nobody cares ur opinion — Pujari (@malappapujari44) March 16, 2022 Neesham, who has 336.2k followers on the micro-blogging platform, ended up responding to him. The cricketer exposed the hater's complete idiocy by revealing that he was following him on Twitter and ended up posting something unpleasant just to get some attention from the international player. You follow me… you actively seek out my opinion. https://t.co/HiBDDYGWvp — Jimmy Neesham (@JimmyNeesh) March 16, 2022 Ever since the New Zealand cricketer responded to the hater’s comments, other Indian cricket fans have also gotten on top of his case and are letting him know exactly how much Neesham’s opinions, especially on cricketing issues matter to them. This isn’t the first time Neesham has had to deal with a rude Indian cricket fan. A couple of years ago, for instance, the Kiwi cricketer was asked why he had “so few followers” on his Twitter handle (Neesham had 236.2k followers at the time) and the cricketer had responded with nothing but class and common sense. 3. We’re always told that life works in mysterious ways, one day it can make you the king of the jungle and the very next moment, its prey. Things are always uncertain and tragedy can strike at any moment. Just like it did with Reena Rai, when her boyfriend and famous Punjabi actor, Deep Sidhu passed away in a road accident. The incident took place on 15th February when both Reena Rai and Deep Sidhu were travelling to Bathinda in a car when they met with an accident. His car hit a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway near Kharkhoda in Haryana's Sonipat district. Due to the airbags, Reena survived, and Deep was immediately rushed to the hospital, but sadly, was declared dead. © Reena Rai In a day, their entire life turned upside-down and Reena Rai also wrote a gut-wrenching piece on social media, expressing her remorse. And at the same time, as people reminisced about the late actor and activists work, they came across several posts where Deep Sidhu had etched his heart’s feelings for his girlfriend, Reena. View this post on Instagram In an old post, Deep Sidhu credited Reena Rai for always standing by his side, even when no one else did. He wrote, “You stood by when the whole world was against, protected me, held my respect, gave me strength, prayed for my cause and freedom but what truly has touched my heart and soul when you paused your life for me, you being there means a lot for me, your love and support is beyond any description, you are beyond my words and I truly feel blessed to have soul like you in my life, I just wanna say I love you.” © Reena Rai Posting the same picture on her Instagram after Deep’s untimely and unfortunate demise, Reena wrote (in a now deleted post), “I’m broken I’m dead inside please come back to your soulmate which you promised me that you won’t leave me in any lifetime I love you my Jaan my soul boy you are my heartbeat. As I was lying in the hospital bed today I heard you come whisper I love my Jaan I know you are forever with me.we were planning our future together and now you are gone. Soulmates don’t leave each other and I’ll see you on the other side Jaan #Truesoulmates (sic).” Meanwhile, the industry as well as the fans are stunned to hear of Deep Sidhu’s death. They have been sharing their condolences for the late actor and messages for Reena by dropping comments like, ‘Stay strong!! so sorry for your loss.’ View the full article
  4. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has slammed all-rounder Hardik Pandya for trying to justify his lack of good performances with the ball during the T20 World Cup 2021 in which the Men in Blue were knocked out during the group stage. Pandya had recently commented about how he was selected to become a part of the main roster solely as a batter and had to bowl in the first match even though he was in no shape to do so. He further explained how he went on to bowl in the second match as well even when he was not supposed to. View this post on Instagram Reacting to this statement by Pandya, Rajkumar not only called him immature but also went on to slam him and tell him that he should be thankful to the BCCI and the selection committee for letting him be a part of the World Cup squad despite his shortcomings, especially when there were multiple all-rounder back-ups awaiting their turn to make it into the team. Pandya’s comments also raise an important question regarding all the statements that were coming out of the Indian cricket board at the time of team selection wherein Pandya was being portrayed as recovering cricketer who will be good to be the squad’s primary all-rounder, who will be able to deliver some overs per match without any difficulties. View this post on Instagram In fact, the Chairman of Selectors had made it public that Pandya was going to bowl four overs in every match he becomes a part of during the T20 World Cup. However, in the latter half of IPL 2022 (which concluded just three days before the World Cup started), Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma kept Pandya away from bowling and that should have been the biggest red flag on his health. The Chairman of Selectors had said Hardik will bowl 4 overs in games. He hasn’t bowled even 1 yet. He is the pace bowling all rounder and India has gone in with 1 fast bowler less. — Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) September 26, 2021 The lack of a legitimately fit and performing all-rounder did haunt Virat Kohli’s side, especially during the first two matches of their T20 World Cup journey against Pakistan and New Zealand, both of which they lost and practically ousted themselves from the tournament, causing a major setback to Kohli’s legacy as he stepped down from T20I captainship on the same day. 5. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli have always stood by each other through thick and thin. Yesterday, Virat announced that he has stepped down as Indian Test Captain and it came as a shocking news for all the cricket buffs. People on social media had various theories as to why Virat had to take this decision and felt it was the BCCI who forced him to do so. View this post on Instagram Anushka has penned a heartfelt emotional note for husband and was all praises for him as he invested so many years of hard work selflessly. In an emotional post on Instagram, Anushka told Virat 'You did good.' Recalling good old days, she wrote, “I remember MS, you & I having a chat later that day & him joking about how quickly your beard will start turning gray. We all had a good laugh about it. Since that day, I’ve seen more than just your beard turning gray. I’ve seen growth. Immense growth. Around you & within you. And yes, I am very proud of your growth as the captain of the Indian National Cricket team & what achievements the team had under your leadership. But I’m more proud of the growth you achieved within you," she said. She also mentioned that he didn’t hold on to anything with greed and did his best for the country. “They definitely do but, not without challenges. A lot of these challenges that you faced were not always on the field. But then, this is life right? It tests you in places where you least expect it to but where you need it the most. And my love, I am so proud of you for not letting anything come in the way of your good intentions. You led by example & gave winning on field every ounce of your energy to the extent that after some losses I’ve sat next to you with tears in your eyes, while you wondered if there’s still something more you could have done. This is who you are & this is what you expected from everyone. You’ve been unconventional & straightforward. Pretense is your foe & this is what makes you great in my eyes & the eyes of your admirers. Because underneath all this were your pure, unadulterated intentions always. And not everyone will be able to truly understand that," Anushka wrote. Here’s the post: View this post on Instagram In his post, he wrote, “It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction. I have done this job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as the Test Captain of India, it's now. There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey, but never has there been a lack of effort or lack of belief. I have always believed in giving my 120 percent in everything I do, and if I can't do that, I know its not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team.” View this post on Instagram He continued, “I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from Day One and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful. To Ravi Bhai and the support group who were the engine behind this vehicle that moved us upwards in Test cricket consistently, you all have played a massive role in bringing this vision to life.” He also gave a big credit to MS Dhoni for believing in him and standing by his side all this while. “Lastly, a big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward,” he concluded his note. Here’s the post: View this post on Instagram People are celebrating his achievements and want him to continue giving his best on the field. View the full article

  7. Ayushmann Khurrana is one star who just one day walked into Bollywood, and it was a perfect match! I mean, for people who have tracked his progress from becoming the first Roadie to becoming a video jockey, to later starring in films, Ayushmann is a complete entertainment package. © MTV Talk about singing, being charming, acting talent, and that million-dollar 'I'll steal your girlfriend' smile, the Punjabi Munda has it all. On top of that, he's proved that not only is he a great actor, but he's also a really versatile one, who can take risks by doing all sorts of coming-of-age films and still make the audiences across India connect to it. This is the Ayushmann we know ever since he made his debut in Vicky Donor. © Prime Video However, did you know that once a Bollywood director said a terrible thing to him Why? Because he refused to do his film. This is what Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui actor revealed while speaking to RJ Siddharth Kannan. After having the perfect debut with Vicky Donor, Ayushmann was in a zone where some of his films like Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyaan, and Hawaizaada, just did not work. He reveals that having seen that, he obviously wanted to be more choosy, and therefore was very selective about which films he wanted to do. It was then, when he said no to a particular film, the response that he got from the director completely shocked him. “One of the filmmakers told me, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell.’ I had said no to a film and I was told, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell, why are you saying no to this film?’ Upkaar jaise kar rahe ho, ki yeh film kar lo (It was like he was doing me a favour by offering me the film),” Ayushmann said. Now, that really is some horrible thing to say to an actor who is obviously not in a good space of his career. Fortunately for Ayushmann though, the actor believed in his process and chose his next film very wisely, which happened to be Dum Laga Ke Haisha. © Prime Video “I waited for two years after Dum Laga Ke Haisha, I did not have a release for two years. I was just waiting for the right film.” Honestly, if Ayushmann doesn't sell, who really does? View the full article

  9. The last couple of weeks have been really tough for the Indian cricket team and more so for skipper Virat Kohli, who has been subjected to unnecessary criticism on social media. After losing to cross-border rivals Pakistan, the Men In Blue suffered a heavy defeat against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand side. View this post on Instagram No doubt, the performances in both the matches were poor. The Indian players were completely outclassed in all three facets of the game and lost both the matches by huge margins. In fact, the 10-wicket humiliation against Pakistan was their worst-ever T20I defeat, and it was followed by an eight-wicket loss against the Kiwis. As fans we were all distraught when our team couldn’t compete at all. But that doesn’t mean we can abuse those very players who have given us countless memories to cherish in the past. © Twitter/Mohammed Shami After the Pakistan defeat, fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who gave away the winning runs, was abused on the basis of his religious identity. His commitment to the side was questioned just because he belonged to a religious minority. Kohli, like any true leader, spoke in favour of his star bowler and slammed the online trolls as “spineless people” who think abusing someone online hiding behind fake accounts is fun. View this post on Instagram “We're playing on the field, we're not a bunch of spineless people on social media. This has become a source of entertainment for some people which is very sad. All this drama created on the outside is based on people's frustrations. We stand by by him 200 per cent. Our brotherhood in the team cannot be shaken,” Kohli said before the New Zealand match. While the majority of the people praised the Indian skipper for standing up for his teammate, but one Twitter user crossed all the limits and issued rape threat against his 10-month old daugter Vamika. © Reuters Watching Kohli and his family members getting so much hatred on social media, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to show solidarity with the Indian cricketer. Dear Virat, These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them. Protect the team. — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) November 2, 2021 “Dear Virat, These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them. Protect the team,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site. Gandhi’s tweet had a spiral effect on other users and they also started tweeting in Kohli’s favour using hashtag ‘#DearVirat’. Rallying behind the modern-day great, people wrote how unfair it was to blame him for the team’s poor performance in both the matches of the T20 World Cup and argued that he didn’t deserve the hatred he was getting. #viratkholi He doesn't deserve this hatred!! Kohli’s form has dipped in the last couple of years but even then his performance is good enough to rival some of the greats of the game. It’s just that he has set the bar so high for himself that we want to see his scoring centuries every time he comes out to bat. © Reuters Also, those who are criticising him for the team's poor outing in the T20 World Cup, must not forget that cricket is a team game and Kohli is not the only reason why India have lost the matches. They have failed to win because the whole team has failed to perform to its full potential. Someone has rightly said success gives you fans but only failure gives a player true fans. It’s up to you to decide which one you are. View the full article
  10. In a shocking turn of events, Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was detained by NCB along with several others after a cruise party was raided. It soon became the most trending discussion on Twitter and people started to share their opinions on the star kid being detained for consuming drugs. Now, he's been in jail for more than three weeks with bail being denied four times already. View this post on Instagram Just before the bail hearing of SRK’s son Aryan in the Mumbai drugs case, some new WhatsApp chats have surfaced showing that Aryan discussed a cocaine plan with two others. India Today exclusively released these chats. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been questioning Ananya Panday and Aryan Khan over their WhatsApp conversations discussing drugs. India Today TV has accessed some of WhatsApp chats exchanged between Aryan Khan and Ananya Panday where the two discussed procuring drugs. (@arvindojha )#AryanKhan #AnanyaPanday #MumbaidrugbustCase pic.twitter.com/OrEZj2R9L1 — IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) October 26, 2021 Here are the chats: Aryan - Weed Ananya - it's in Demand Aryan - I will take it from you in secret Ananya - fine Ananya: now that I am in the business Aryan: you brought the weed? Aryan: Ananya Ananya: I am getting it Aryan - Let's get cocoain tomorrow (sic) Aryan - I am getting you guys f****d. In another WhatsApp chat, Aryan Khan had ordered drugs (weed) worth Rs 80,000 from Achit Kumar. But there's a twist here. It's said that WhatsApp chats are not reliable proof for the court. Also, as per the former attorney general of India, Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son’s jailed son Aryan in the drugs seizure case, the star kid is wrongly arrested in this case. “No recovery, no consumption, I submit I am wrongly arrested," the former AG said on behalf of the star-son, adding there was no material to show that Aryan financed illicit trafficking of drugs. He added, “Penalty is for consumption or carrying it. I don't have it, possession of somebody else can't be my possession. 11. India suffered a historic loss against arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening encounter of the T20 World Cup in Dubai. The Men in Blue were completely outplayed by the opposition in all three departments of the game. With this loss, India’s unbeaten streak against Pakistan in the World Cup events came to an end. Also, it was the first time India had lost a T20I game by a margin of 10 wickets. Record breakers @iMRizwanPak and @babarazam258 posted the highest first-wicket partnership in Men's #T20WorldCup history in #Pakistan's momentous win Read more https://t.co/yh4mb4SuXa#INDvPAK pic.twitter.com/NOyVY1ivyD — ICC (@ICC) October 25, 2021 It all started when Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma for a golden duck with a brilliant in-swinging delivery in the first over of the match. India could never recover from the early blows and played the chasing game throughout the match. Given their form and the way they performed in the two warm-up games, many had expected Team India to win the match quite comfortably but the result came as a shocker to many. Having said that, the way Babar Azam’s side played from start to finish in this blockbuster clash they deserved to win the match. © Twitter BCCI During the post-match press conference, a Pakistani journalist asked a question that left the Indian skipper fuming. Raising a finger on Kohli’s team selection, the Pak reporter asked him if he made a mistake by not picking Ishan Kishan, who had played brilliantly in the warm-up matches, for this mega clash ahead of the ‘Hitman’. Here’s how the conversation panned out: "Will you drop Rohit Sharma from T20Is?" @imVkohli had no time for this question following #India's loss to #Pakistan.#INDvPAK #T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/sLbrq7z2PW — ICC (@ICC) October 25, 2021 “Do you think that Ishan Kishan should have played ahead of Rohit Sharma?” the reporter asked. Shocked to hear this question, Kohli remained silent for a few seconds and then replied: “Really? It's a very brave question. What do you think, sir? I played the team that I thought was the best. What is your opinion?”. © Reuters Despite hearing Kohli’s initial reaction, the journalist found nothing wrong in his question and defended himself by saying: “I am asking you”. “Will you drop Rohit Sharma from T20 Internationals? You'll drop Rohit Sharma?” Kohli repeated himself with a lot more seriousness. “You know what he did in the last game that we played,” he enquired, reminding him of Rohit’s blistering fifty that he scored against Australia in their second warm-up game. “Unbelievable” said Kohli before covering his face for a few seconds. He ended the conversation by telling the Pakistani journalist “Sir, if you want controversy, please tell me before, so I can answer accordingly”. © Twitter BCCI It’s okay to raise questions and point fingers at team selections after a team had just lost the match. But the journalists must keep in mind that the question that they are asking makes a little sense. In the past, Kohli had received a lot of flak for getting into a fight with the journalists but on this occasion his reaction was absolutely on point. The way he controlled his anger with a cheeky smile and still made his point across was really commendable. After learning of MS Dhoni’s intention to play his farewell game in Chennai, his fans had gone into an overdrive, thinking he would feature in the IPL for one more season. © Twitter IPL They weren’t even done celebrating the good news when the Chennai Super Kings skipper made a cryptic statement, sowing the seeds of uncertainty in the minds of every cricket fan. When he walked out for the toss for CSK's last league game of the season against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Dhoni was asked for more clarity on his IPL future but instead of making things clear, his reply complicated everything. But whether I will be playing for CSK? You never know,” Dhoni said after losing the toss. With the arrival of two new teams next year, the majority of the players will go under the hammer and Dhoni feels unless there is clarity over the retention policy and salary cap, it would be too early to say anything with absolute certainty. © Twitter CSK “There are a lot of uncertainties around it for a simple reason that we have two new teams coming up. We don't know the retention policy. We don't know how many foreigners, Indian players we can retain, the money cap that every player will be cutting from the kitty,” the CSK captain explained. “So there are a lot of uncertainties. Unless the rules are in place, you can't really decide that. So we will wait for it to happen and hopefully it will be good for everyone,” he added. © Twitter IPL Earlier this week, Dhoni had said that fans would get a chance to bid him farewell when he turns up for CSK at the MA Chepauk Stadium in Chennai next year. “When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there,” Dhoni had said while interacting with fans during India Cements’ Platinum Jubilee celebration. © Twitter IPL Following his statement, an India Cements official also confirmed that Dhoni will not go anywhere and that the franchise will retain him ahead of next year’s mega auction. The official even said that they hope Dhoni will keep playing for the next few years. “We are going to retain MS Dhoni, he will be there next year and maybe a few more years. Nothing has been decided yet, all he said was fans can see his farewell match in Chennai. There is no way to conclude that next year is his last one,” an Indian Cements official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. 13. After being dropped from the playing XI against Rajasthan Royals on Monday, SunRisers Hyderabad talisman David Warner indirectly hinted that he might have played his last game for the franchise, thus breaking millions of hearts. SRH have endured a disastrous outing this season and are already out of playoffs contention. However, nobody thought the axe of the team’s poor performance would fall on their most consistent performer and he would be treated this badly by the franchise. © Twitter/SRH Warner wasn’t just left on the bench, he was not even included in the reserves, hence couldn’t travel with the team to the stadium. His absence in the team dugout didn't go unnoticed and soon he started trending on social media. Replying to an SRH post on Instagram, a fan inquired about Warner’s absence from the stadium. The Australian opener, who was forced to watch the game from his team hotel, responded to the comment, hinting that he won’t be wearing the Orange jersey ever again. © Instagram “Unfortunately won’t be again but please keep supporting,” his reply sent shockwaves among the whole SRH fanbase as they couldn’t imagine their franchise without their greatest run-scorer. Warner’s reply spread like a wildfire and fans took to various social media platforms to sympathise with the Australian opener and thanked him for giving the numerous memorable moments. So probably his last season in Orange There are certain names attached with each teams;and for SRH it is always WARNER! In fact, if you tally the records since 2014 he leads the run-scoring chart by a country mile. Before this season, he scored in excess of 500 runs in each of the last six editions starting from 2014. Also, he is the only player in the history of IPL to score fifty half-centuries. He wore the Orange jersey 92 times and breached the fifty-run mark on 42 occasions, which is staggering by any stretch of the imagination. One bad season and everything is gone : IPL/BCCI#SRHvRR #DavidWarner #IPL2021 pic.twitter.com/F0q25B1zAY — CricTracker (@Cricketracker) September 27, 2021 When asked about their decision, SRH coach Trevor Bayliss said that since they were out of the playoffs race, they decided to give young players a chance in the remaining matches. “We can't make the final so have made a decision that we want the young players to experience not just the matches but time at the ground, around the set-up, and for this match we made the decision. He was not the only experienced player we left back at the hotel," Bayliss said at the post-match press conference. © Twitter/SunRisers Hyderabad “We have a number of young players that haven't been to the ground. Even as reserves. We wanted to give them an opportunity to come along and experience that. That may continue for a few more games yet. We don't know,” he added. No doubt, Warner was going through a lean patch in this season but he wasn't the only reason why SRH were dead bottom in the points table. Their disastrous campaign was a result of the team's collective failure, and Warner is just being made the scapegoat. © Twitter/IPL Looking at how he is being treated, it won’t be an exaggeration if we say that SRH didn’t deserve a player like Warner, who gave his blood and soul and helped the franchise scale new heights. It also highlights why franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who have eight titles between them, have been so successful. These two IPL giants are known for always showing faith in their players and backing them even if they are going through a tough phase. © Twitter/IPL If indeed SRH have decided to part ways with Warner after this season, he should be happy that next year’s a big auction and he would be able to close this chapter and start afresh. 14. On Monday, Sri Lankan cricketer Chamika Karunaratne shared a couple of videos from his Instagram account in which he could be seen receiving a bat from Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya and getting along with the rest of the Men in Blue, presumably during the practice session ahead of the First T20I. In the caption of the videos, the Sri Lankan all-rounder showed his appreciation towards Pandya and even went on to call him his “role model”. View this post on Instagram “Absolutely honoured to have received a bat from my role model @hardikpandya93 , on my T20 debut. You are an amazing human being and I am truly touched by your thoughtful gesture. I’ll never forget this day. May God bless you always!” Karunaratne summarised the opportunity to have a heart-to-heart moment with Pandya. While the two opponents shared a moment of sportsmanship and camaraderie of the purest kind, it was Pandya’s own fans who were rather shocked about the fact that another international level player considered him to be a role model. Who tf keeps his role model as Hardik Pandya?? Even Hardik Pandya's kid won't keep his father as role model 🤣🤣🤣 Joke hai bc...I know he is a good player — Jagdish #Cheer4India 🇮🇳️ (@Jagdish84060365) July 26, 2021 Hardik bhi kisi ka role model ho skta hai kya — 𝑨𝑳𝑶𝑲 (@CricCrazyAlok) July 26, 2021 Must say,it's a poor choice Hardik has never lived upto the expectations. How many games has he won for India?Be it the ODI's / T20's?Yes there have been some good performances here and there, but he is way too inconsistent.Stokes shud be the role model for any budding cricketer. — AMISH RAY R S (@AMISHRAYRS1) July 26, 2021 Gud gesture but Role model?? Really — (@VK_FAN_FOREVER) July 26, 2021 Obviously, such a negative response comes as a result of Pandya’s struggles on the field and on both sides of the pitch. Formerly known for his ability to smack the ball out of the park from the very first delivery, Pandya has seen a significant dip in his form recently. His 10-run innings against the Sri Lankans in the first T20I only added to that list of miseries, as he was unable to hit even a single boundary during his time at the crease. Secondly, his constantly nagging lower back injuries have taken away his ability to be a regular bowler for the Indian squad and the inconsistent spurts of 2-3 overs that he receives, isn’t enough to bring him back to his usual element. As a result, Pandya’s bowling becomes more of a liability than an asset. View this post on Instagram When a player struggles to perform in the two categories that had built his name and reputation as India’s most dependable all-rounder at one point in time, backlash and hate are common to come by. If cricket history has taught us anything, it is that cricketers need but one game to bounce back to their usual self and with the hard-hitting abilities we know Pandya possesses, all he needs is to connect with a couple of his swings. He will get his chance to make one count on Tuesday when India hopes to take a 2-0 lead and win the T20I series. View the full article
  15. Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq recently became a part of a talk show in which he left no stones unturned to depict his hate and problems with female cricketers for… being themselves. In an Pakistani TV show hosted by presenter Nouman Ijaz, Razzaq shared a couch with all-rounder Nida Dar and made some nasty, sexist comments about every aspect of her being an athlete. From the way she looks, to the way she shakes hands with people, while also conjecturing that women cricketers want to show themselves “as superiors” to their male counterparts. Shameful ridicule of a young cricket player by Abdul Razzaq. When you have played for the national team & have some level of respect, you should use that to encourage young cricketers, especially women, instead of shaming them based on gender stereotypes.pic.twitter.com/CtemldIcNb — Usama Khilji (@UsamaKhilji) July 14, 2021 While talking about women choosing between sports and marriage, Dar was trying to explain how cricket has helped a lot of women from villages to have a career. "If some colleges and schools have space, then they do try and incorporate cricket in their extra curriculum activities. Girls from rural areas and villages move to the city to play cricket, in hopes to pursue this as a profession." View this post on Instagram This is when Razzaq starts the slander by saying: "Oh, they don't get married. Their field is as such. When they become cricketers, they strive to be as equal as their male counterparts, if not better than them. They want to prove that not only men, but they can also do it as well. The feeling [to get married] is gone [by the time they excel]." He further added by saying, "If you shake her [Dar] hand, she is anything but feminine." The all-rounder then decides to respond to Razzaq by suggesting the need for them to have muscular bodies but he simply cuts her off with another sexist remark: "You can tell by the haircut she has." View this post on Instagram "I had this query for a while. Can you not play cricket with longer hair?" asks Wafa Butt, another host of the show, to which Dar responds: "You absolutely can play with long hair, but for someone who has kept her hair long, it would affect her game." It is rather commendable to see how Dar continues to keep her calm despite being cornered by everyone present on the show and being exposed to such level of misogyny on live television. The video of this incident has since gone viral on social media with fans completely by the women cricketer’s side in bashing Razzaq for what he said: So disgusting all these people literally jumped on her. "How was quarantine, my friend?" Shastri is heard asking Rohit, in his booming voice. "You're looking younger," Shastri added. Injuring his hamstring during the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians captain became the most successful player in the history of the league when he won the sixth IPL trophy as an individual player. After the tournament was over, however, Sharma had returned to India, unlike the rest of the Team India roster, that flew for the land Down Under directly from the UAE. Even though the Men in Blue exceeded expectations during the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, skipper Rahane could use Sharma’s batting prowess at the top of the batting order, especially with Mayank Agarwal’s off-form continuing to bother him.
