Gujarat Titans, one of the two new franchises who will be making their debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL), launched their jersey in a grand event at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 13). Their skipper Hardik Pandya, director of cricket Vikram Solanki, head coach Ashish Nehra were present at the venue among other stakeholders of the team. The event was hosted by cricket presenter Vikram Sathaye and the jersey launch show was a hit and fans poured love on social media. We ‘launched’ our jersey last night, quite literally! Here’s a quick snapshot of the event!#GujaratTitans pic.twitter.com/zGhY0jKyU3 — Gujarat Titans (@gujarat_titans) March 14, 2022 The IPL 2022 will see 10 teams participating as compared to eight in the previous season and while there is excitement among fans regarding the T20 extravaganza, controversy has already hit one of the new franchises -- Gujarat Titans -- even before the start of the tournament. Vikram Sathaye's remarks regarding women cricket fans caught the attention of social media users and they let their frustration known on Twitter. Live is Live ! So happy to be on stage after so long at the Jersey launch of @gujarat_titans ! #GujaratTitans Super fun chat with @hardikpandya7 #Nehraji and #Vikramsolanki pic.twitter.com/hc9bOixNMQ — Vikram Sathaye (@vikramsathaye) March 13, 2022 "My theory on cricket is, couples don't fight each other because of cricket. Because three months men will be watching cricket. The other day my aunt came and said to me, you know three months he will not talk to me. I said good for you. I tell my aunt if you don't want your husband to play games with you, let him watch cricket and everything will be good in the family," Vikram Sathaye said. "Having said that a lot women watch the sport and many couples tell me that this is the only thing they do as a couple." Watch the video here: Fans called out the sexist jokes made by the cricket presenter and demanded an apology from him for his stereotypical mindset. He is still making 20 year old jokes. https://t.co/4OKKLZfHVN — Cricket baba (@Cricketbaba5) March 14, 2022So @vikramsathaye hasn't yet apologised for this.. https://t.co/QZ15vYHbQk — Adarsh (@Adarsh__ash) March 14, 2022This is not even funny. None in audience seem involved in this stereotypical 90s tirade. — Predictably Irrational (@IrrationalDesi) March 14, 2022He shouldn't be spared now. This is utterly disgusting and unacceptable behaviour. https://t.co/cXz4YHZF4o — (@choccolava__) March 14, 2022in a big 2022 this is what a cricket presenter has to say. This field is hitting new lows everyday. https://t.co/pfInEsbr7B — Prajakta (@18prajakta) March 13, 2022We have seen what such remarks could lead to when Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya's controversial comments saw him receiving a ban from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Hardik had to issue an apology after being asked to go back home from the tour of Australia in 2019. KL Rahul, who will be seen leading Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022, was also banned by the BCCI as he was also present at the popular celebrity talk show with Pandya. "I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect," Hardik had written in his public apology on Twitter. In today's day and age when every comment is closely monitored if you are a renowned name, such remarks about women were a classic example of brain fade by the cricket presenter. 5. You know that feeling when you’re quietly sitting in your room, minding your own business and suddenly your mom or dad barges in, reprimanding you terribly for something your older brother might have done? That urge to ask them to stop or simply storm out of the room is real, as is the frustration of being held accountable for something that wasn’t even your fault, to begin with. via GIPHY Now, imagine, an entire gender being made to feel a similar kind of exasperation and subjected to such unfair treatment. A sentiment that up until now was only reserved for women, but is now being passed on to the men, for they continue to face the brunt of misandry that ‘woke feminists’ often confuse for ‘feminism’. © Kiera Breaugh To give you context, we are here to talk about a certain TikTok video that went viral where a woman named Kiera Breaugh, urged women to ‘make men’s pockets hurt’. Giving out her two cents on why women must not and shouldn’t be expected to pay 50/50 on dates with men, Kiera ended up opening a dialogue that needed as much attention as it did some insight. View this post on Instagram Calling the concept of splitting the bill on dates as ‘one of the most insidious and ridiculous effects of the patriarchy,’ Kiera’s argument was, “The fact that men expect women to pay 50/50 when women don't get 50% of anything? [Not] 50% of the money, 50% of the privilege, 50% of the safety, 50% of the space they're allowed to take up, none of that. But, pay. Pay equal amounts even though you don't have equal rights. Do you understand how ridiculous that is?" And to that, I (a feminist woman) would say NO. I don’t understand how ridiculous that is, and here is why that is. The debate here is clearly not about invoking equality in everyday actions but taking revenge on each man, whether or not they contributed to the patriarchy. Just because women were denied equal rights and equal pay for decades on end, doesn’t mean that they are entitled to take that anger and frustration out on men who probably aren’t sexist to start with. View this post on InstagramYes, the gender gap is real. The pay gap is real. But the medium to raise a voice against that is with the senior management and HR of that company and not the next-door guy you decide to go out on a date with. Knowing what feminism is and knowing where to bring it in are two different things, one that this woman and everyone who supported her, missed out on dearly. And to be honest, the victim card is getting too old to play each time to get your way. And this is coming from an independent feminist woman like myself, who wouldn’t mind splitting the bill with my date because I understand just because centuries ago men dominated our kind, doesn’t make me entitled to making the guy sitting in front of me - feel like shit. However, the woman in the TikTok goes on to say, “Why are we starting with women pretending like they're equal, before they get equal? Because it benefits men. It benefits men to say, 'Oh yeah, I'm a feminist, I believe in women paying 50/50 on dinner dates.' And that is the only time they believe in equality." View this post on Instagram And to sum it all up, she concludes the video by saying, “Make his pockets hurt," and all it did manage to hurt was the years-long of the fight of women towards attaining actual equality, because women as uninformed and linear like her, take the entire feminist movement years back. via GIPHY Just like the law can’t avenge the crimes of a father on his son, we can’t take out our resentment on society and the kind of entitled men women have encountered over the years, on just any man we go out with. The way towards equality is not asking for compensation or a handout in every sphere of life, but asking for an opportunity to reach there - fair and square. Equality doesn’t come by exploiting men and the concept of ‘chivalry’ to get your bills paid. In fact, as a true feminist, simply doing that should irk something inside of you, knowing that your intent is simply vengeful and not to support a cause. via GIPHY I get it. If this notion were to come at me two decades ago, I’d probably have cheered it on. But now, when I see change taking place and women finally climbing up the ladder without any hindrance from a man, it’s not the time to be petty and preach of ‘misandry’ in the blanket of feminism. At the end of the day, a man shouldn’t feel obligated to pay for you just like a woman shouldn’t feel obligated to pay the man in kind. And if you really want to be treated equally, it can’t happen if you’re still asking for handouts. via GIPHY Get up, pay for your own share and raise a voice for equal pay just as fiercely at the company you’re working at, not at the dinner table in front of a guy who simply wanted to go on a date with you.
