  4. Oscar-nominated actor James Franco, who is known for his performances in the Spider-Man franchise, 127 Hours among other films, has opened up for the first time, around four years after being accused of sexual misconduct by five women at his acting school (now-defunct). He has now admitted sleeping with students of his acting school while teaching and "that was wrong". Revealing the same recently, in SiriusXM’s The Jesse Cagle podcast, the 43-year-old actor also shared that he struggled with a *** addiction and is working continuously to improve his behaviour. Reportedly, he had developed a *** addiction after becoming sober from an alcohol addiction, developed at a young age. According to Reuters, in the podcast, he said, "I suppose at the time, my thinking was if it’s consensual, OK. At the time I was not clearheaded” adding that he was not running the acting school for that purpose. Talking about his *** addiction, during the podcast, James shared that it became worse with time. "It’s (***) such a powerful drug. I got hooked on it for 20 more years. The insidious part of that is that I stayed sober from alcohol all that time,” the actor further said. Since 2016, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star has been recovering from *** addiction and is changing who he was. Now, since he does not want to hurt people, James revealed that he has been working upon himself ever since the allegations were leveled against him. For the unversed, in October 2019, two ex-students had filed a civil suit against the actor accusing him of exploiting aspiring actors at his acting school. Franco had initially denied the allegations, however, later agreed to settle the suit filed against him by paying $2.2 million. On the film front, he made his acting debut with Never Been Kissed in 1999 and went on to feature in various memorable films. In 2011, he co-hosted the Oscar Awards and got nominated at the 2012 ceremony in the Best Actor category for his performance in 127 Hours. View the full article

  9. Let’s be absolutely clear about one thing - having a healthy relationship with porn & masturbation can be a blessing in disguise. It is only when we go overboard, do things start to deteriorate fast. © iStock In a society where *** is such a big taboo that a healthy discussion about *** between parents and their children, or teachers and students is non-existent, for most of us, the first avenue about *** education, is internet porn. No points for guessing what all can go wrong. © iStock Porn addiction is one such thing that often does go wrong. A few users on Reddit, who believe that they are porn addicts, share what difficulties do they have to live with, and the struggles they face, every day: 1. Inability To Focus At Work © iStock “Focussing on work, or anything for that matter becomes a task,” says one user. “Every now and then, I get this urge to just go the washroom, put on my earphones, watch a clip, and bump one out.” Several studies have established a link between addiction to porn, and an addiction to masturbate, both of which seriously damages one’s sexual health. 2. Difficulty In Holding On To A Real Relationship © iStock “My addiction to porn is one of the major reasons why I have difficulty in holding on to a real relationship. It always a pattern, I meet someone, they come to know about my condition, I promise to control myself, I fail, and then, they leave,” said another user. “No matter how great a person you are dating, at some point, they will start judging you for your behaviour,” said the same user. 3. Unrealistic Expectations © iStock “I am aware that what I am watching is not real. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t carry the same expectations into the bedroom. Of course, this is not intentional, it just comes out in the spur of the moment,” said another user. 4. Intimacy Issues © iStock “I hate myself after I watch a clip and get off. However, I find it much easier than opening up to women about my issues. I don’t think I have it in me to invest in a real relationship, I find it much easier, to just take care of my own needs, by myself,” said another. 5. Performance Anxieties © iStock This one is quite similar to the one where the user had unrealistic expectations about ***, but in the completely opposite direction. “I have started to feel that I will be inadequate. I think that if I ask someone out, the person may end up laughing at me, and this thought cripples me,” said a user. 6. Waned Interest In Real-Life *** © iStock “I just don’t find regular *** that interesting anymore, and given that I am a bit of a control freak, I find it hard to let myself be bossed around. This is the quagmire that I am in,” said another user. “Porn excites me. The prospect of having the real thing sure gets me hard, but I am not excited about it, I am not very keen about it,” says the same user. 7. Skewed Social Skills © iStock “I find it much easier to just go online and get off, rather than speak to someone, and try picking them up,” said another user. “It has come to a point, where I actually don’t remember how to approach someone, and just try to pick them up, it is as if I have lost that skill. As a result, I have difficulty in starting even a normal conversation with women at times.” The Bottom Line… Just like any addiction, porn addiction too is treatable, provided you seek help and are willing to put in the work to overcome this. If you’re finding it difficult to deal with this problem on your own, there is absolutely no shame in asking for professional help. Consult a psychologist, or better yet, a sexologist to better understand, what needs to be done. View the full article

  13. You might not even know it but you’re probably addicted to your smartphone especially since people have been stuck home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies show that we use our smartphones on an average of 80-150 times a day and there are repercussions if you don’t keep it in check. While there is a lot of good that comes out of using smartphones such as better communication, better work-life balance and entertainment, there comes a point that you simply cannot go without looking at your phone. In order to curb smartphone usage and get your life back in order, here are some ways you can reduce your addiction to smartphones: 1. Check Your Usage © Apple Both iPhone and Android smartphone now offer some form of smartphone usage tracking which tells you exactly how long you’ve been using your smartphone for. It also shows which apps you’ve been using the most and even lets you schedule down-time. During this time only apps that you whitelist will be available to use while others are greyed out for that duration. It is a great way to prevent yourself from using addictive apps like Instagram, Facebook and games. You can usually find this setting in the “screen time” settings of your smartphone. 2. Protect Your Time © Apple Being always available to your friends and co-workers does come with its own caveats as you never really get time for yourself or get other work done. You need to respect and protect your own time so reduce your smartphone usage over a period of time. I tend to keep ‘Do Not Disturb’ switched on in my phone at certain hours and ensure everyone knows that I am not available. Only favourites from my contacts can get through me which includes family members and my boss. You can also completely switch off your smartphone every day at a specific time as well. Sometimes calls and text messages can make it hard for you to carry on with your work or spend time with your loved ones. If you face this problem daily, a little bit of digital detox will not hurt. 3. Do Other Things You Enjoy © Unsplash If you love to read, play board games, watch movies, or go out on a stroll with your dog, you need to start doing more of that rather than spending time on your phone. No matter which activity you choose, the presence of a smartphone will always ruin the experience. Next time when you are watching your favourite TV show or playing a game, put your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’; set it aside and don’t bother looking at your notifications. This is a great way to reduce the time spent on your smartphone while doing something else as you won’t be checking your smartphone each time you get a notification. 4. Turn Your Phone Into Grayscale © Youtube/ITJungles Research has shown that humans attach emotions to colours and whenever a notification pops up, sometimes you can’t help but see what it's about. If you turn your phone into a black and white canvas, it will reduce the urge to check notifications and apps. Some phones even offer a scheduling feature where you can turn your phone into grayscale automatically. This is best used when you’re about to go to bed or are trying to fall asleep. 5. Turn Off Notifications From Unnecessary Apps © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla Unless you need to communicate with friends, family or co-workers in real-time, you should turn off notifications from unnecessary applications. Every app wants to get your attention and it often does that by sending you notifications repeatedly. There are games that send notifications to get you to spend money while social media apps send you updates about people which you can always check out later. You may even delete social media apps from your phone altogether and only check updates from your laptop/desktop. The constant updates from your distant friends and family can be very distracting and eventually get you scrolling for even more content. View the full article
  14. He said there are 70 million drug addicts in Pakistan, adding that the problem has penetrated schools, colleges
  15. Over the last couple of months, India has been caught in a high-TRP-driven media war with the drug mafia. But while we continue to make sense of the rising addiction rates (and screaming matches), there is no denying that we are indeed in a crisis. Amidst this loud madness, Akshay Oberoi arrived on the web-series space with the MX Original series High. Dark, gritty, and original, High takes us on an entertainment overdose with a gripping 9-episodic series. The show starts on a grim note, taking us through the insufferable and intoxicated life of Shiv (Akshay Oberoi). A young man on the brink of career-changing moves resorts to drugs and alcohol after a life-altering night. Under the influence of his drug-induced rage, Shiv sells off every last valuable item he owns, only to end up penniless, passed out in a public washroom with a needle up his arm. MX Player At the onset, High may come across as a crude mix of the underworld mafia and a drug-addict millennial, but here’s when things come together (for the viewers, at least). After being forced into rehab by his friends, Shiv meets Dr. Roy (Prakash Belawadi), junior doctors Shweta (Shweta Basu Prasad), and Nakul (Nakul Bhalla). On his very first night in the rehab, Dr. Shweta smuggles in a white “magical” powder that leaves Shiv on an emotional and happy high. But this isn’t your regular maal. It is an experimental drug the doctors are testing out. Directed by Nikhil Rao, the fast-paced series jumps straight to the drug race. As the drug cartels try to keep their business afloat, pharma companies try to get their hands on this new drug, while the new channels are trying to get a scoop on the miracle drug. Amidst this, a pharma company hires an assassin Lakda (Ranvir Shorey) to get hold of this magical drug and its makers. MX Player After a surreal magical experience with the powder, Shiv decides to collaborate with the doctors. But where will his new life lead him? Is the life-changing drug worth risking your life for? The series enthralls you with many such questions and then some more. The dark and lowlight cinematography adds a somber and gloom-tinted filter to the series. The screenplay moves swiftly, not leaving a lull in the captivating narrative. This home-grown gritty drama makes it to our must-watch list for the bold and ambitious approach to a complicated subject. Without giving out any spoilers, we can say that the only kind of High you need this weekend is the one on MX Player. You can start streaming the series here. View the full article
