  1. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Saturday with an exciting clash between last year's finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The IPL governing council had decided that all the league stage matches of the IPL 2022 will be in Maharashtra due to the coronavirus pandemic. There were reports that many franchises opposed this decision, saying that the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will have an unfair advantage of playing at home. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convinced the franchises to carry on with the cash-rich league. NEWS : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for #TATAIPL 2022 which will be held in Mumbai and Pune. A total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days. More Details — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 6, 2022 The BCCI had announced four venues across Maharashtra -- Wankhede, Brabourne, DY Patil and MCA stadium -- to host the IPL 2022. Ahead of Mumbai Indians' opening clash in the tournament, Rohit Sharma was asked about his views on other franchises opposing playing in Maharashtra. Just savage as always @ImRo45 | #MIvDCpic.twitter.com/kAaYGE1Lxv — ishant (@Ishant45_) March 27, 2022 Rohit, who is known for his witty answers in press conferences, came up with another savage reply. The Mumbai Indians skipper suggested other franchises to build 3-4 stadiums in their cities if they have problems with MI playing in Mumbai. "Many franchises had said that Mumbai should not play in Mumbai. My view on this is that then they should build three or four stadiums in their cities," Rohit had said. The boldness with which Rohit answered the question, did not go down with cricket fans as they took to Twitter to slam the Mumbai Indians captain, calling his remark absurd and insensitive. I get he was trying to be funny but this is such an absurd & insensitive response https://t.co/NsjhQ8PLO3 — TakeADeepBreath (@DeepTake) March 27, 2022Arrogant idiot. https://t.co/kbsg1j1SVj — Adesh (@Adeshchhina) March 27, 2022Rohit trying to be witty but this is an uncool statement. https://t.co/Bh9cxp8TKM — Allons-y!!! Lol captian bnte hi pagal ho jate hai kya yeh ?@Dhruvkundu4 https://t.co/OgaGT3Lq4q — ░M░e░s░s░i░ (@Campnouballboyy) March 27, 2022Arrogance at peak.. No comments.. https://t.co/UKDBpDNZNW — Venkat.. (@lazyguy_2020) March 27, 2022Whether the franchises were right or not about Mumbai Indians having home advantage will be decided after the end of the league phase but the way the five-time champions began their campaign, it doesn't feel like they will have much of home advantage. MI were well ahead in the match till the 14th over as Delhi Capitals had lost six batters and they were still 75 runs behind the target. However, the bowlers missed their mark by some distance as Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav smashed Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams all over the park to register a thrilling win. WHAT. A. CHASE. @DelhiCapitals register their first victory of the season in style! Scorecard - https://t.co/WRXqoHz83y #TATAIPL #DCvMI pic.twitter.com/prGmdPTAaN — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 27, 2022 While Rohit might have made that comment in a light-hearted way but fans were having none of it. They argued that being an India captain, he should be more careful with his words. Hopefully, the Mumbai Indians skipper will learn his lesson and be a bit more selective with his choice of words when he faces the media next time. View the full article

  3. With only days left in the start of the Test series against India, hosts South Africa suffered a huge blow as their pace sensation Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the whole series due to injury. According to a media statement released by Cricket South Africa (CSA), the speedster hasn’t been able to recuperate from a “persistent” hip injury, which has kept him out of action since the T20 World Cup, held in the UAE. #Proteas Squad update Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the 3-match #BetwayTestSeries due to a persistent injury No replacement will be brought in#SAvIND #FreedomSeries #BePartOfIt pic.twitter.com/5R8gnwdcpF — Cricket South Africa (@OfficialCSA) December 21, 2021 “Proteas bowler, Anrich Nortje, has been ruled out of the three-match, Betway Test series against India, due to a persistent injury. He has unfortunately not recovered adequately for the expected Test match bowling loads and is currently consulting with specialists to manage and advise on his recovery. No replacement will be brought in,” CSA said in its media statement. Nortje has only played 12 Test matches for his country so far but has picked up 47 wickets, with 25 of them coming in this year alone. Despite being fairly new to the international circuit, Nortje has taken to the world stage like duck to water and established himself as one the most lethal fast bowlers on the planet. View this post on Instagram Setback to South Africa means advantage to Virat Kohli and his men and they will be delighted that they won’t have to worry about Nortje’s express pace and bounce anymore. His absence has created a huge void in the South African pace attack, and titled the tide in the touring party’s favour. Even before Nortje’s injury many believed that this was India’s best chance to break their deadlock and register their maiden Test series triumph on the South Africa soil. And with this latest development, they have grown even more confident that the team would finally script history. - De Kock on paternity leave. - Nortje ruled out. In fact, a large group of supporters, who were hoping to see a tight contest, actually began bemoaning his injury, saying that it would make the series one-sided and they would be deprived of competitive cricket that they always expect whenever these two sides lock horns against each other. Ab maza nhi aayega yaar — Milind Madhav (@Madhav__Milind) December 21, 2021Fir wahi baali baat hogae na jaise great MSD kahte the ki weak team ke against runs karke kya fayda No Quinton, no Naukia — Yogen (45) (@frontFootPuller) December 21, 2021I don't know should I be happy that India's win chances went up drastically or sad that it might not be as competitive now — शुभम राऊत (@ShubhamRaut2397) December 21, 2021Noooo we need a tight competition — (@DrStrangeDHFM) December 21, 2021as a cricket fan wanted to see nortje vs indian batter ,its really sad that he will not play — Vishnurawal (@Vishnu16410) December 21, 2021No doubt, Proteas will miss their star pacer dearly but we shouldn’t forget that they still have a quality fast bowling unit led by Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, young Marco Jansen, and Duanne Olivier who is set to make his comeback in the South African set-up after returning from the Kolpak deal. On paper India looks like a strong side but there is a reason why they have only won three red-ball games in South Africa so far. There is a reason why the visitors have never won two Test matches on a single tour. View this post on Instagram Nortje might be out but their other pacers are more than capable of rattling any opposition on their given day, which explains why they haven’t called in any replacements. So, those of you worrying about the series being dull and boring, tighten your seatbelts and brace yourself for exhilarating cricket. View the full article
  4. With less than a week left for India to play their first match of the T20 World Cup 2021, batter KL Rahul has addressed what it feels like having Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the dressing room once again, albeit as a mentor and not a teammate, this time around. During a Red Bull interaction, Rahul spoke about the former skipper’s presence in the Men in Blue ahead of the big tournament and the biggest advantage that he brings along with him, wherever he goes. View this post on Instagram “Obviously, MS Dhoni (being) back with the team feels amazing because we have played under him and we have looked towards him as a mentor even when he was our captain,” Rahul said following a well-appreciated half-century against England in India’s first warm-up match. “We loved having him in the dressing room when he was the captain. We loved the calmness. We have all looked up to him to help us out, to have him here is amazing." View this post on Instagram “This gives us a sense of calmness, I have enjoyed spending time with him in the first two to three days and it has been a lot of fun. Looking forward to chewing his brain about cricket, captaincy and all things cricket,” he added. Earlier this month, Dhoni had once again proven his mettle as a supreme captain and tactician when he lifted his fourth Indian Premier League title alongside the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the United Arab Emirates. View this post on Instagram However, a lot of questions were raised about the skipper’s struggle with the bat. Much like the end of IPL 2020, fans were also inquisitive about whether this was going to be Dhoni’s last season. And just like IPL 2020, Dhoni shot down all such rumours and assured the fans that he will be back for IPL 2022 as well. “None of us are sure that IPL 2021 final was his last game,” Rahul, who was the captain of Punjab Kings and got knocked out of IPL 2021 ahead of the playoffs, added while complimenting Dhoni and his highly decorated career so far. View this post on Instagram India will take on Pakistan in their first match of ICC World Cup 2021 on October 24, 2021, at the Dubai International Stadium. View the full article

  6. We love watching Bollywood movies for their emphasis on happy endings. Be it Salman, Hrithik, Shah Rukh, or Akshay, the hero will always beat all the odds to crush the villain and end up with the woman of his dreams. Happily Ever After types! © YRF But while Bollywood does a lot of good things, it also does a few things that we don't like. Not all 'nice guys' in Bollywood get the girl! And even if some do, they are often subjected to being taken advantage of, made fun of, not taken seriously, and so on. But still, for the nice guys that they are, Bollywood forces them to still pursue the girl because I guess that's what nice guys do. © YRF Well, keeping that in mind, I've made up a list of times these Bollywood nice guys should have straight up said 'no' to the girl for taking advantage of them: 1. Rohit In 'Kal Ho Na Ho' (2003) © Dharma Productions Handsome? Yes. Intelligent? Yes. Charming? Yes. Kind and Loving. Yes, Yes. Then what is the problem? You're still not Shah Rukh. Yep. That was the problem Saif Ali Khan's character Rohit faced when he was head over heels in love with Preity Zinta's Naina. He tried everything in the book to express his love for her, but Preity had her eyes on the charming and extremely witty Aman (Shah Rukh Khan). Throughout the movie, Naina could be seen body-shaming people and making fun of Rohit but he still carried on being the nice guy, only to later be rejected on his face. However, it was later when Aman kind of rejected Naina's advances that she finally thought that dating Rohit wouldn't be that bad an idea. Well, Rohit, even though you ended up marrying and having kids with Naina, we think you deserved better and should have said no to her. 2. Aman In 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' (1998) © Dharma Productions Bhai! If Salman Khan's character also is taken advantage of in a movie, then shit has really gotten serious. This time too, it was Shah Rukh that was the main reason. Meet Aman (Salman) from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. King, caring, loving, and extremely supportive of his fiance Anjali (Kajol), who he is planning to marry soon. But then Shimla ka Summer Camp happens, where Anjali ends up meeting Rahul (Shah Rukh), the ex-best friend/college playboy who literally friend-zoned her and married someone else. To cut things short, Anjali falls in love with Rahul again after getting to know that his first wife Tina (Rani Mukherjee) passed away. Shame for Aman though! In the end, it's Aman who literally gets emotionally blackmailed into getting off his wedding mandap to hitch Rahul and Anjali back together. Well, Aman, we are glad you didn't get into this mess, but king, you should have said no to her from the get-go. 3. Karan In 'Lakshya' (2004) © Netflix We all remember the wonderful coming-of-age film Lakshya, which now literally has a cult fan following. Hrithik's portrayal of Indian Army officer Karan Shergill definitely struck a chord with all of us, even encouraging so many to actually join the Indian Army in real life. However, we remember that before his struggle to become an Army officer in the film, he was in love with Romila (Preity Zinta), who legit dumped him because he was confused about his career. Now, at a time, when we give tremendous importance to taking up an easy choice because of the whole mental health issue, imagine someone breaking up with the other person because he or she was having trouble finding a way. Hah! not so nice Romi! Well, like Bollywood is, they showed Hrithik and Preity bizarrely ending up together. Karan, bro! You became an Army officer all on your own. You helped your country in Kargil. I think you certainly deserved someone better and should have said no to her. 4. Rohit In 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' (2002) © Prime Video What is it with Jimmy Shergill never getting the girl he wants in movies, huh? In Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Jimmy's character Rohit was madly in love with Anjali (Tulip Joshi) and despite being kind, caring, and all things nice, he still loses out to Uday Chopra's character Sanju. Why? Well, because Anjali still loves Sanju. Wow! That was convenient. I mean, Rohit was all set to get married to her and almost got dumped right at the end of the movie. In the film, Rohit does the right thing by making sure that he doesn't marry Anjali who doesn't love him back. But really? What he should have done was dump her and let her go back to Sanjay on her own. It's high time Jimmy is given characters where he actually gets the girl because he's the Nicest Guy Around. 5. Jeetu In Hungama (2003) © Disney Plus Hotstar Remember the love-triangle comedy between Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Rimi Sen in the 2003 comedy film Hungama that also featured Paresh Rawal? Everything about the film from top to bottom was absolutely hilarious, except what happened with Akshaye Khanna's character Jeetu. Jeetu, who was already in a load of trouble himself in the film, did everything to help Rimi's character Anjali (God! the third Anjali, so far) because he obviously liked her so much. He even believed all her lies and even forgave her for all of it in the end just because of his love for her. However, despite doing possibly everything in the movie to win her love, Rimi decided to choose Nandu (Aftab). And in some fashion. When asked by Jeetu to choose between him and Nandu, Anjali literally made chits with both guys' names and said she'd sort of do a lucky draw. The name came out be Nandu at the end after which Jeetu realized that literally, all the chits had Nandu written inside them. Ouch! I mean! There were certainly better ways about it. Jeetu! You should have seen the red flags, my man! You should have said no to her before she destroyed you like this. Fin. View the full article

  8. Those who have seen Adarsh Gourav in Priyanka Chopra and Rajkummar Rao’s The White Tiger would agree with the fact he outshone both the actors with his rock-solid performance. The actor was even nominated in the Best Actor category for The White Tiger for BAFTA 2021. People appreciated his craft and wanted to know all about the actor who has managed to sweep all of us with his acting prowess. View this post on Instagram He started his career in 2010 with My Name Is Khan and was born and brought up in Jamshedpur. In an interview with IANS, he told how it was an advantage to be brought up in Jamshedpur. He said, "I think the fact that you do not get everything in life that you want, and how to deal with it (is an advantage). If I give a small example, at the age of nine, if I wanted a pair of Nike shoes, I wouldn't get that because either there was no showroom of Nike back then or my father thought it was an unnecessary expense. It wouldn't have been the same with a boy from a wealthy family. Not that I was upset or anything but we always knew what we could afford and what we couldn't. Having said that since my parents had a huge passion for travelling, we would go on a family vacation every year.” He also reflected on his childhood, on how he never went abroad for vacations, “We did not go abroad for those vacations but in India, as a child, I have travelled everywhere, and I know how beautiful my country is. We went to Himachal Pradesh, we went to Goa and also different places in South India. I felt the diversity, and whenever we travelled by train, we would chat with fellow passengers and the journeys were filled with memory." View this post on Instagram He also added that it was his middle-class upbringing that made him more compassionate and empathetic towards others. "I know the advantage of being middle-class. My spectrum towards life is wider because I have interacted with people from different walks of life. My compassion and empathy towards other people and their condition is more. I value my privilege of having good food, going to a good school, living in a good house and everything that my parents have given me. Honestly, I do not want to change those values,” added the actor. View this post on Instagram We hope to see more of the actor in the years to come and wish he gets to make it bigger in the industry. 9. Business magnate Anand Mahindra doesn't shy away from sharing funny yet thoughtful content on his social media account. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) chairman Anand Mahindra, who is very active on social media, is a master of witty tweets and often brings to our attention some very interesting news pieces. He recently shared a witty post for Prime Minister Narendra Modi referring to PM’s earlier tweet. While flying out of Chennai, PM Modi had tweeted about how he caught a "fleeting view of a very interesting match." From asking people to caption quirky pictures to sharing inspiring stories, his varied tweets never fails to get people talking. As far as the test match that PM Modi was referring to is concerned, things are positioned indeed interestingly with India in the driver seat in the second test match versus England. At the end of the second day of proceedings at Chennai's Chepauk stadium, India lead by 249 runs. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are on the crease at scores of 25 and 7 respectively. Earlier in the day, thanks to R Ashwin's five-wicket haul, India had restricted England to a total of 134 runs. The hosts trail the series 0-1. View the full article

  11. Moats have been used for centuries as a way to defend a building from potential attack. A flooded ditch around a castle is a great way to make it harder to be taken. You can't push battering rams against walls, and neither can you dig under the castle. Quite frankly, a moat is a pretty decent deterrent when there are plenty of other castles to pillage. What does this mean for your business? A community can be an economic moat, or in more simple terms, your competitive advantage. When your product or service is surrounded by an engaged community that feels invested in your brand, you'll be able to resist challenges from competitors looking to tempt your customers away. Humans are social creatures, and we love seeking out and joining a tribe that aligns with our values. The intangible value of belonging creates a sense of momentum for your brand and helps champion it to others. The statistics back this strategy; 88% of community professionals said in a recent survey that community is critical to their company's mission and 85% said that their community has had a positive impact to their business.[1] Your competitive advantage One of the cheapest ways to create momentum for your product is to build a community around your startup. A community is much more than a one-time marketing campaign and can help you throughout your company's life cycle if you take the time to grow it right. [2] Creating a buzz around a product can take a lot of time, effort and money. Traditionally, this buzz would be created with a mixture of videos, websites, influencer reviews, and heavy advertisement spends across multiple channels, including social media. Your community can create a shortcut and reach an audience without those costs and increase the chance of your product being shared virally. Your community creates a bond over a shared interest that continually re-enforces loyalty to your brand. This creates a personal investment which makes it less likely your customers will try a competitor. Put simply, if a company can move from just shipping a product to building a community, it can benefit from several competitive advantages such as: Engaged members help acquire new members, lowering the cost for customer acquisition. Increased customer retention through community loyalty. Members won't want to abandon the community they enjoy. Reduced support costs as members support each other. This benefit forms a loop that generates more value as the community grows. Brand building Another area of opportunity for social marketing is "brand building" - connecting enthusiastic online brand advocates with the company's product development cycle. Here, research becomes marketing; product developers are now using social forums to spot reactions after they modify an offer, a price, or a feature in a product or service. Such brand-managed communities can have real success. One well-documented example is IdeaStorm, Dell's community discussion and "brainstorming" website, which saw a measurable increase in sales following its launch, by providing a forum for meaningful dialogue and "to gauge which ideas are most important and most relevant to" the public. [3] By creating a community around your product or service, not only do you create brand advocates, but you also gain powerful insights into what your customers want through research which drives marketing. Consumers today crave a stronger bond with brands. It's no longer enough to give them a customer support email address and a monthly newsletter. They want a much more in-depth interaction with the company and other users of the product or service. One tactic for success is for brands to move away from the hard-sell to instead embrace the notion of "co-creation". This means moving beyond "old-school" approaches to website advertising to embrace the principles of relationship marketing - building virtual environments in which customers can connect with each other to share insights and relevant information. To capitalise on currently available opportunities, marketers need to find or establish real brand communities, listen to them, and then create special programs and tools that will empower potential and existing community members, rewarding existing consumers and eliciting behavioural change from potential consumers. [3] Evernote, the note-taking app, is a great example. Their lively community encourages customers to interact directly with staff, post their wish-lists for future versions and learn more about what happens behind the scenes. The community creates evangelists for Evernote and makes it harder for competitors to gain a foothold with a potent mix of dialogue, access to other customers, transparency from the brand and many opportunities for co-creation of content. Co-creation fundamentally challenges the traditional roles of the firm and the consumer. The tension manifests itself at points of interaction between the consumer and the company where the co-creation experience occurs, where individuals exercise choice, and where value is co-created. Points of interaction provide opportunities for collaboration and negotiation, explicit or implicit, between the consumer and the company. In the emergent economy, competition will center on personalized co-creation experiences, resulting in value that is truly unique to each individual. 12. It is a well known fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI is the biggest cash cow for the International Cricket Council. According to a Hindustan Times report, the Indian cricket board is the source of roughly 70% of the total revenue ICC earns annually, so it is but natural for them to keep BCCI in a happy place and put them on a pedestal. There have been various incidents when despite BCCI's unreasonable demands which gravely costs all the other members of the international board, ICC has nodded its head in agreement, the 'Big Three Financial model' being probably one of the biggest measures. According to this model, a major chunk of the ICC's profits will go to the cricket boards of India, Australia and England because of a simple reason that they bring in the most money. So on a base level, it can be said that the ICC is a puppet and BCCI, the puppeteer. Now, the question is whether the Indian cricket team is taking undue advantage of BCCI's power in the international organisation? According to what happened at the press conference yesterday, it sure feels that way. Two days ahead of the Indian cricket team's World Cup 2019 opening game against South Africa, the media manager of the squad decided to send a couple of their net bowlers, Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan to the press conference instead of the head coach, Ravi Shastri or any senior member of the roster, as the rest of the teams have been doing. © Reuters The awaiting journalists were livid and decided to boycott the interaction altogether because they felt it was not fair for the media and the two young athletes to have a conversation about playing squad as they had no authority to answer team related questions. What further enraged the senior members of the press fraternity was the reason that the media manager gave for the absence of a relevant representative. According to him, the younger cricketers were brought to the fore because India didn't start their World Cup campaign yet. Similar situation had occurred during the previous ICC World Cup in 2015 when only skipper MS Dhoni used to be present at the media interactions post-games despite other people being the best performers. These performers were then only interviewed exclusively by the official website of the BCCI. © Reuters Not only does this show how casually Team India has been taking the ICC, but it also shows how little they care about the honour of being one of the teams to be participating in the World Cup and the media.
  13. Does your natural body odour attract potential partners? Maybe. As ridiculous as this sounds, sometimes people are attracted to other people's distinctive odours. We know this probably sounds gross and inexplicable but here's the thing: there is a mysterious phenomenon that can sometimes attract you to your future mate by the way of their odour, and this has been a proven theory known as the body-odour attraction. Before you brush it off as rubbish and think that only people with funny armpit fetishes do this, then you are wrong. Like they show in the movie 'Friends With Benefits' when Justin Timberlake is making out with this girl and she tries to sniff out his armpit hair and the scene, in particular, is absolutely abhorrent. © Getty Images But that's not how it works. Clock back to the last time you were physically attracted to someone. Did you not exactly mind the way they smelt? And I don't mean the scent cover-up, their natural musk and even if it smelled like nothing at all or something so distinctive that you couldn't compare it to anything else and it's so intoxicating that you can't compare it to anything else. Animals secrete pheromones to attract their mates. This is a big part of their mating process. Humans, on the other hand, secrete pheromones, but it isn't clear how they exactly work. Lindsey Bordone, M.D., assistant professor of dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center. (Dermos are also well versed in hormones and endocrinology.) said that: “Humans don't have a functioning 'vomeronasal organ',” she further added, “which is what other animals use to detect pheromones secreted by another animal of the same species. Instead, we sense smells via the olfactory system. Perceivable smells likely do play a role in attraction, or lack of attraction, in people.” Bordone further clarifies which honestly makes sense, It's not the odor you're actually attracted to. You just don't mind it at all because you're attracted to the other person and the underlying scent. However, there's also a catch here. While you may be attracted to a person's underlying scent, that scent is not always their natural musk. It is an intricate combination of their body wash, shampoo, deodorant, fragrance, hair product, fabric-softener sheets, and other scented products used throughout everyday life. Which makes literally every scent out there super unique. In a study*, the female body odour was collected from different bodily fluids, at various times throughout their menstrual cycles. These odours were then ranked by the subjects' male partners. Body odours were found to be perceived as most pleasant smelling, and as longer-lasting, during their ovulatory phase which suggests that pheromones do have a major role to play in catalysing sexual attraction. © Getty Images But there are also other things that can heavily influence your SO's scent. Instant associations with the smell of their moisturizer or a particular flower like say lavender or jasmine that lingers when you kiss or an ingredient like cinnamon is likely. But it should help to know that products you use can majorly influence your BO. There are ways you can use your BO to your advantage. 1. Start With Basic Grooming © Getty Images Body odour could also smell rotten if you don't follow your basic grooming regime. Basically, taking a shower everyday, using an anti-antiperspirant on humid days, and grooming pubic hair. A basic routine can make a huge difference. This helps shape 80% of your BO. 2. Choose Products In Line With The Scent You Like © Getty Images For your scrub, body wash and cleansers, among other products, choose products with a scent that you wouldn't mind wearing yourself. For example, keeping an overarching common scent helps. You could choose from lavender, rose, jasmine or woody musks like redwood. 3. Keep Your Fabrics In Check In humid weather, stay away from synthetic fabrics like polyester. They will make you sweat faster and subsequently ruin your body odour. In some situations, no amount of cover-up perfume or deo helps after. * Kuukasjärvi S, Eriksson CJ, Koskela E, Mappes T, Nissinen K, Rantala MJ. 14. In his much-hyped and anticipated address to the nation a couple of days back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is now a space-power, as DRDO successfully destroyed a low earth orbit satellite in space using a missile. While the government claims that the ASAT test has provided 'credible deterrence' against the threats to the country's space-based assets, a former ISRO Satellite Communication Engineer thinks that this won't be effective at all. First of all, in case you don't know what the announcement was all about then here's PM Modi's address to the nation - Now, let's see what N Kalyan Raman, former ISRO Satellite Communication Engineer, who has worked with ISRO for over two decades thinks. According to him, India won't be able to knock out the satellites that are in the higher orbit with its missile. “Most of the countries' satellites are in the higher orbit, and even with this India won't be able to knock out those satellites,” he said. Kalyan noted that Mission Shakti doesn't quite add up in a war-like situation. In fact, he says there are a lot of other ways through which one can keep an eye on the enemies. He said, “In a war like situation, if a country wants to spy on its enemies there are various ways to do it-- for example, Google Earth. All you need is good resolution photos. Why do we even need this?” © ISRO Raman firmly believes that India's anti-satellite test was more a demonstration of its ballistic missile defence system, rather than its ability to challenge its adversaries in space. On the same lines, even Vipin Narang, an associate professor of political science at MIT, told the WIRED that India needs to balance things out if it's interested in getting into the anti-satellite deterrence game. He added that China can knock out all of India's satellites, but India can't really do the same.
  15. LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said on Friday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz took advantage of former party member and MNA Ayesha Gulalai after the Panama case verdict on July 28, disqualifying former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The PTI spokesman said that it seems that the PML-N did not fulfill its promises made to Ayesha Gulalai. Chaudhry further claimed that running a defamation campaign against political opponents is PML-N's patent move. The ruling party also ran a campaign maligning Imran Khan back in 1996, he added. Defamation campaigns were also run against Benazir Bhutto and Nusrat Bhutto, said the PTI spokesman. Earlier today, disgruntled PTI MNA Ayesha Gulalai claimed that she received an offer of a Senate ticket from the PML-N. Talking to the media outside Parliament, Gulalai said the only condition in return for the ticket was to attack state institutions, adding that she will disclose the name of the PML-N member who made the offer at a later date. PML-N offered Senate ticket to malign institutions: Gulalai Disgruntled PTI MNA says Nawaz Sharif more dangerous than Imran Khan Gulalai, who hails from South Waziristan, said it is unfair to talk against the judiciary and army, saying it amounts to treason. "Nawaz is more dangerous than Imran," she added. Talking about south Punjab, the PTI MNA said there has been no development in the region as all the funds are being spent in Lahore. She added that she supports the region's demands for a separate province after looking at the conditions there.
  16. Photo: Real Madrid Twitter MADRID: Paris Saint-Germain face a huge task to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after Cristiano Ronaldo defied predictions his powers are waning with two goals as Real Madrid won 3-1 in the first leg of their last-16 tie. Billed as a contest between World Player of the Year Ronaldo and his Brazilian heir-in-waiting Neymar, the 33-year-old Portuguese came out emphatically on top as he became the first player to score 100 Champions League goals for the same club. On a pulsating evening in the Bernabeu, Ronaldo dragged Real level with a penalty after Adrien Rabiot had given PSG the lead, fed by a cheeky Neymar backheel. As PSG seemed to be heading for a draw that would have put the French side in the driving seat for the return leg on March 6, Ronaldo turned the match in Madrid´s favour with a scrappy goal that bounced in off his knee. As Madrid poured forward, Marcelo piled on the pain with an 86th-minute volley to show PSG -- who have never won the Champions League -- the value of the experience of winning the competition 12 times. ´We love the Champions League´ "Real Madrid love the Champions League and as players we can feel that on the pitch," Ronaldo said after being named man of the match. "Today things worked out for me, scoring two goals and helping the team win, but we know the tie is not finished yet." Neymar, who cut a dejected figure at the end, said his side "committed errors at certain moments". "We were not mature enough at the end of the match," the 26-year-old Brazilian said. "We didn´t play badly, but I think we need to be better if we want to eliminate Real Madrid. It is difficult, but nothing is impossible." The return leg at the Parc des Princes will be the hottest ticket in Europe. With Real trailing bitter rivals Barcelona by 17 points in the Spanish league, coach Zinedine Zidane´s job seemed in danger before this tie. He paid tribute to his talisman, who despite showing signs of fallibility in La Liga this season has scored 11 goals in Europe in just seven matches. "With Ronaldo it´s difficult to always say the same thing. He has shown once again that he always turns up in the big games," Zidane said. The Frenchman said he would savour the victory, but warned his side to guard against complacency against PSG. "There is a second leg to come where we will need to play with a lot of intensity. We know we are going to suffer." PSG coach Unai Emery, who has never been further than the Champions League round of 16 in five previous attempts, gambled with a young lineup, starting with 21-year-old Argentinian midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and 22-year-old defender Presnel Kimpembe. But it was the Spaniard´s decision to withdraw the club´s all-time top scorer Edinson Cavani with half an hour to go that potentially cost him dear. With PSG´s attacking edge lost, Real clawed their way back into the game. The Paris side´s Qatari backers stuck with Emery last season despite a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Barcelona in the last 16, but they are unlikely to show the same patience if the second most expensive squad in history fails to overcome Real. "The team played well and deserved better," Emery said. "We have to be optimistic and positive for the match in Paris. We still have a good chance of getting through."

  18. When Thomas Alva Edison would get stuck with a difficult problem, instead of focusing intently on it, he took a power nap. And he did so while sitting in a lounge chair holding a ball bearing in his hand above a plate on the floor. As he relaxed, his thoughts moved towards free and open diffuse-mode thinking. When Edison fell asleep, the ball bearing fell from his hands. The clatter woke him so he could grasp the fragments of his diffused mode thinking to create new approaches. What you just read is an excerpt from a mind for numbers written by Barbara Oakley. But, the question is, why did Edison do that? According to legend, it helped his brain access fragments of memory chunks buried deep in his brain, to which his focused mode had no access to. This very short but uninterrupted nap allowed his brain to look at the bigger picture which eventually brought him something creative or at least some progress with the solution. That was a simple hack through which Edison communicated with his brain. But, there are more, which are so common in your daily life that if you start observing them now, could work wonders for you. Walking © Every Body Walk! According to Steve Jobs, creativity is simply connecting the dots. But, how do you do that? By actually letting your mind wander. And when you are walking, you are already engaged in a physical activity which doesn't need you to really focus on. That triggers your brain to jump into that diffused mode and allows you to think randomly. This is where people often come up with an idea. So, the next time you are stuck with a problem, just go for a stroll and then come back to the problem. You might just be surprised. Talking © Mindful Living Network The exact term would be mindful talking. Try this today, when you go home, talk to your spouse like you are hundred percent present in that conversion. While you are doing that, minimise your distractions completely. This won't only lighten your mood but will also strengthen your relationship. You can this with every conversation you have and you will develop a better presence of mind. Eating © EL Financiero The above concept goes works with eating too. If you are aware of what's going into your belly and can savour or even appreciate it, it will help you harness its benefits to the maximum. When you pay attention to what's going into your body, you are actually observing your thoughts, feelings and sensations. And when this happens, you can also meditate and can control gaining mass, losing some or maintaining it. Sleeping © YouTube Neither less nor excess sleep is good for health. But, it has been observed that sleeping in cycles of 90 minutes can help you wake up feeling really energised. This may not have been proven scientifically yet, but to realise it in your daily life, try it for yourself. Take a note of the time when you go to sleep and then take one when you wake up after an uninterrupted sleep. If it comes out to be in a cycle of 90 minutes i.e 6, 7.5 hours, you know for what duration you need to set your alarm the next time to sync with your natural clock. A good sleep helps your mind take a fresh look at the problem at hand. Drawing © Pexels Remember when we all used to make beautiful drawings in school and then again on the last pages of our notebook during those boring lectures. Those greeting cards we used to make for our siblings and best friends? But suddenly we stopped doing it, even though it contained so many emotions. Drawing helps you see who you are and what you care about. This habit not only clears your mind but also tells you what to put your mind into. So, what are you waiting for? Start doodling whatever you want. Writing © Reedsy Blog If you are tense, write it down, it will make you feel lighter and if you are happy for something that happened, write it down, it will make you even happier whenever you look at it again. That means that writing makes you more observant of yourself and makes you feel life more. Keep a diary and write something you did differently that day and if you did not do anything new, take it as a signal to change something in your life. Reading © Unsplash Reading something new keeps your mind fresh, gives you a topic for healthy discussion over the table and if, by chance, you are more of an introvert, it also acts as a door where you can learn from others experiences. Reading fiction has its own advantages where it improves your brain's connectivity and how it functions. So, if you have just decided to start, start reading at least one book a month. Cooking © A Man's Guide in the Kitchen It is an activity that requires planning, preparation, and execution, which basically improves your cognitive skills. Chopping, grinding and washing actively demands good hand-eye coordination and concentration. Though it may look like a hefty task at first, it does give you an instant sense of accomplishment. Other than the above, one can learn a new language or try your hand at learning to play a new instrument. These activities have scientifically proven to have astounding positive effects on your brain. Benefits of practising meditation daily needs no introduction. So, what are you waiting for? You got the gears, start grinding them.
  19. BRIDGETOWN: Yasir Shah’s stranglehold of the West Indies continued on the fourth day of the second Test at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Wednesday as the leg-spinner snared six for 90 to re-open the prospect of a first-ever Test match victory at the venue for Pakistan going into the final day. Despite a patient, disciplined Test best of 90 from Shai Hope and a succession of half-century partnerships that raised expectations of the home side batting their way to safety, West Indies slipped from the relative comfort of 235 for four to be 264 for nine at stumps. They go into the final day on Thursday ahead by 183 runs with the last pair at the crease. On a deteriorating pitch, Pakistan’s final target may still be a challenging one as they seek the historic win which would also give them a first-ever Test series triumph in the Caribbean. “Man of the Match” in the seven-wicket win the first Test in Jamaica, Shah was again the key performer when it mattered most for Pakistan. Hope appeared to have blunted the threat successfully through more than five hours of watchful batsmanship. However within sight of a maiden Test hundred, he drove Shah to cover where Azhar Ali held the catch that triggered the late slide. Having broken an 80-run fifth-wicket partnership with Vishaul Singh, Pakistan were celebrating again off the very next delivery as Singh was on his way back to the pavilion, bowled off the inside edge by seamer Mohammad Abbas for 32. Three wickets fell for one run when Younis Khan held his fifth catch of the match, a brilliant reflex effort at slip to remove West Indies captain Jason Holder off Shah. In his farewell series like captain Misbah ul Haq, Younis is now the only fielder to have taken 50 catches after the age of 35 in Test cricket. “It’s about staying fit and staying sharp and expectant in the field,” the 39-year-old explained. “This pitch is pretty much like what we play on at home and in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), so if we play properly and concentrate we should be able to get whatever the target is on the last day.” In rampant mood after the late success, Shah then disposed of Shane Dowrich and Alzarri Joseph in quick succession just before the close to leave Devendra Bishoo and last man Shannon Gabriel to carry the fight for the home side into the last day. With more and more questions being asked about his continued presence in the regional side given a paltry average of 15.40 and a topscore of 41 prior to this innings, Hope went a long way in responding to the critics in a situation where the West Indies were always likely to capitulate. He came to the crease in the morning after Pakistan struck an early blow when the West Indies resumed at 40 for one, Mohammad Amir bowling Shimron Hetmyer before the left-hander could add to his overnight score of 22. Kraigg Brathwaite continued to bat resolutely in partnership with Hope, the pair putting on 56 for the third wicket despite the varying challenges posed by the tourists’ combination of pace and wrist-spin. It was Shah, the more experienced of the specialist slow bowlers, who provided the breakthrough when he removed the obdurate Brathwaite for 43. Fresh from a century in the first innings, Roston Chase proved an able partner to Hope for the rest of the morning and then deep into the afternoon session, their fourth-wicket stand producing 58 invaluable runs when Chase was deceived by a flighted Shah delivery to be caught-and-bowled for 23.
