Rishabh Pant is arguably the most chirpy member of the Indian cricket team who loves to talk on the field, have fun with his teammates, and motivate the bowlers, especially Ravichandran Ashwin, whenever he gets the opportunity. In the past, the man has also shown off his bantering skills, like when he got into it with the former Test captain of the Australian cricket team, Tim Paine by calling him “temporary captain” and exchanging a lot of words with the Aussi wicketkeeper in a competitive spirit which both sides appreciated. However, during the ongoing Test between India and South Africa, the 24-year old wicket-keeper and batter did not seem to be in a chirpy mood, nor was he willing to exchange any kind of friendly banter with the South African middle-order hitter Rassie van der Dussen. It appeared as though van der Dussen had gotten into Pant's ears with his disputed catch the day before, and reminded the India wicketkeeper of it at the conclusion of the 38th over. Pant, on the other hand, seemed unfazed, and the 24-year-old told the Protea that "if you have half-knowledge, then keep your mouth shut." pic.twitter.com/4ThWxKabwF — Maqbool (@im_maqbool) January 5, 2022 The exchange was followed by a nasty bouncer by the devastating pacer Kagiso Rabata that stunned the Indian south-paw as the ball bumped off his gloves and was almost ready to be caught by the fielder standing at slip. Now frustrated by all the talking and shook up by the bouncer, Pant wanted to shake everything off and release the accumulated pressure by swinging for the big shot on the following delivery. However, the ball brushed past the bat as Pant swung for the fences and went straight into the hands of the opposing skipper Kyle Verreynne. View this post on Instagram It was clear as day that Pant had given into van der Dussen’s tactics and had lost his wicket by getting riled up. After three balls, he got out and had to walk back to the dressing room while putting absolutely no runs on the board for the Men in Blue. With the second Test of the series still two days away from getting concluded, South Africa are at 118/2 and need just 122 runs to win the clash at the Wanderers cricket ground and level up the series at 1-1 before heading to Cape Town for the series-deciding match. White House says Biden "will lift temporary travel restrictions on Southern Africa countries" effective Dec 31 -
The Indian cricket team is currently setting itself up for their trip to South Africa three-Test series followed by as many ODIs in the final week of December and throughout January. However, with the growing cases of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus, especially in the country, certain special arrangements that have been made for the team have rubbed their fans the wrong way. According to reports, the BCCI has arranged for the Indian players and their family members to stay at a resort, and not a hotel, after reaching South Africa. This is done to avoid making the players feel stuck within their rooms, have some breathing space around them, and ensure that they don’t go through the mental fatigue of living in a bio-bubble. Indian team will be staying in a resort after reaching South Africa, it will give breathing space to the players and families - they can do lots of outdoor activities inside the resort. (Source - TOI) — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) December 15, 2021 Over the past year and a half, the Men in Blue, same as all the international cricket teams who have been on the road for bilateral series and the T20 World Cup tournament, have expressed the exhaustion of the mind while being confined to the walls of a hotel and only going to the cricket grounds for practices and matches. Their fans, however, feel as if the BCCI are already taking a lot of risk allowing their cricketers to go to South Africa, one of the critical hotspots for the new covid variant and that they are doubling down on that risk by allowing their family members, including children, to be potentially exposed to the virus. (@guruDatta23) December 15, 2021That's the problem outdoor activities but inside the resort — Sourav Choudhary (@SouravC06654349) December 15, 2021The Proteas have been extremely thankful to the BCCI and the Indian cricket team for making this series possible especially after many other countries with good ties with them had decided to cut off traveling routes ever since the origination of the omicron variant was first discovered by the scientists in South Africa. Many, including the United Kingdom, was accused of imposing “travel apartheid” on South Africa and other African nations after putting them on the red list of travel bans, even though they were extremely efficient and transparent about the orinignation of a new variant on their soil, which allowed the rest of the world to prepare for the next chapter of the pandemic in advance.
