Post-shave itching or irritation is one of the worst grooming problems men have to face. © Instagram/vickykaushal09 This becomes even worse for men with sensitive skin, who have to shave their faces regularly. Trust us when we say, that if the situation gets out of hand, itchy and irritated skin can become extremely agonising. Leave it untreated, or deal with it the wrong way, and you risk a skin infection. © Instagram/rajkummar_rao Some of the most common reasons why men get all itchy around the face after a close shave is when they have dry skin, or when they do not shave properly. © Instagram/rajkummar_rao We list a few easy and simple ways men can prevent, or deal with post-shave itchings and irritations, very easily: 1. Shower Before Shaving © Pexels Okay, first up, you need to moisten your beard and your skin before you start shaving. So, before you pick that razor, take a quick shower, in some warm water. If you can’t take a shower for whatever reason, wash your beard just with water and moisten it up. 2. Use A Preshave Oil Before Shaving © iStock If you have sensitive skin and are prone to post-shave irritations and itches, we suggest you use a good preshave oil. Look for something that is chemical-free, and also works in softening up your beard and skin. A good preshave oil will allow your razor to just glide over your skin. How about going for something like this preshave oil from Dapr? __ECOMPRODUCT__897__ 3. Use A Good, Multi-Bladed Razor To Make Things Easy © MensXP Now, the main bit, shaving. Frequently change your blades or cartridges. As a rule of thumb, you should change your cartridge every 6-8 days if you shave every day, or every other week if you shave after every 2-3 days. Get a razor with a good handle, and more importantly, 3 or more blades. This allows you for a smoother shaving experience and a closer shave. Something like this awesome razor from MensXP Mud. __ECOMPRODUCT__1053__ 4. A Hydrating Face Wash © MensXP Invest in a good face wash, that suits your skin, and is greatly hydrating. You don’t want to use anything that would dry your skin out, so pick very carefully. Ideally, you should go for something that is soft on the skin, soothes it, has great hydrating qualities, and suits all skin types. Something like this one from Arata. __ECOMPRODUCT__1085__ 5. A Good Moisturiser © MensXP A really good moisturiser, something that suits your skin, and locks in moisture can be a godsend. Pick something that is light on the skin, and gets absorbed instantly, and is deeply hydrating. It should also be soothing on the skin. Our pick would be the In The Clear Superlight Moisturizer from Phy __ECOMPRODUCT__317__ 6. Use Ice Cubes © iStock A really useful home remedy for post-shave itchy skin is using ice packs or ice cubes. You basically want a cold press. Simply tie up some ice cubes in a handkerchief and massage your skin. You can also use a cold slice of cucumber if you’re feeling fancy, or a single cube of ice, being massaged for a few minutes. 7. Use Alcohol-Free Aftershave Balm Or Lotion © iStock This is something that people often skip, assuming that moisturising ought to be enough. Well, it isn’t, and you need something to give you that extra boost. This is where a good aftershave balm or lotion comes in. Go for something that is free of alcohol. Your aftershave option should soothe your skin, smell nice, and keep your skin hydrated. We recommend going for something like the MenXP MUD After Shave Balm, thanks to its natural oils and anti-inflammatory properties. __ECOMPRODUCT__307__ The Bottom LinePost-shave itchings and irritations may be excruciatingly painful and bothersome at times. That being said, they don’t need to be that way. There are tons of things that we can do to deal with shaving rashes and itchings. A good pre-shave and post-shave routine, for example, works wonders. And remember, always use sharp blades. Old and dull blades are major reasons why men face issues after shaving. View the full article

The world-renowned Boston Marathon has been one of the greatest tests of a man's physical capabilities, endurance and unshaken devotion. Throughout the years, the event has been home to some of the most memorable moments in the history of the United States of America, some good and some rather unfortunate, such as the 2013 bombings. A celebration of just 'being able', the Boston Marathon is more of a festival than a race. For Micah Herndon, a US Marine, however, it meant a lot more than all of that. The Ohio-born soldier was running the distance in honour of three of his comrades who lost their lives while serving their nation in Afghanistan. “I run in honour of them,” Herndon told the Record-Courier. “They are not here anymore. I am here, and I am able. I am lucky to still have all my limbs. I can still be active. I find fuel in the simple idea that I can run. Some can not.” However, the Marine's tribute for his fallen brothers in arms turned out to be a lot more difficult than he had ever imagined. After running for a little over 42 km and the finishing line in his sight, Herndon's legs suddenly locked up, ending up in him collapsing on the road. Going through immense pain, he was unable to stand on his feet. "Both my legs locked up, the worst pain I've ever experienced running,” Herndon said. As the medical team approached him, he refused to seek help, not until he cleared the finish line, all by himself, and he did. How badly do you want it? #BostonMarathon pic.twitter.com/EYo7liqM5Q — Dana Giordano (@dana_gio6) April 15, 2019 Crawling on his hands and knees, Herndon finally made it to the end of the marathon before immediately being assisted with a wheelchair and rushed to the hospital. "The mindset of a Marine, you finish it by yourself,” he said. The soldier also spoke about what kept him motivated throughout his ordeal. He said that whenever he felt like giving up, he just remembered his comrades' faces and names, which gave him the strength to carry on. Herndon also engraved the names of the fallen on the shoes that he wore for the run as a gesture of respect. After serving his time in Afghanistan, Herndon says that running helps him deal with his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). "One way for me to deal with everything is to get in my own zone, my own headspace, and just go,” he said. “I will have setbacks in my life. I will go backwards, but it's how you respond going forward.”
