  5. After weeks of excitement, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises finally released the list of their retentions they have made ahead of the mega auction. From Virat Kohli to MS Dhoni to Rohit Sharma to Jasprit Bumrah some of their biggest names of Indian cricket have been retained by their respective franchises. Every year, the IPL governing body increases the overall salary cap to spend on the players and normally people think that if a player is retained then he would be getting a better deal than his previous contract. View this post on Instagram While that is true in most cases, it’s not a given and this year also we saw some of the big-ticket players agreeing to a huge pay cut in order to be a part of the same franchise. Not just Indian players but a couple of foreigners also took a huge pay cut for the sake of the team. Here’s a list of four star players who took the biggest pay cut in IPL retentions: MS Dhoni View this post on Instagram Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wanted to retain their inspirational leader as their first retention but the former India skipper urged the franchise to reduce his salary and make someone else the highest-paid player. Eventually, the Chennai-based franchise handed Ravindra Jadeja Rs 16 crore contract while Dhoni, whose previous contract was Rs 15 crore, agreed to a 20 percent reduction in his salary, taking home Rs 12 crore every year. Virat Kohli View this post on Instagram Despite giving up captaincy, Kohli continued to be Royal Challengers Bangalore’s top-choice retention. With his previous contract worth Rs 17 crore, the Indian Test skipper was the highest-paid player in the last three editions. With AB de Villiers hanging up his boots, RCB retained only three players - Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj and as per IPL salary cap guidelines they couldn’t offer him the same salary as last year. Hence, the Indian modern-day great agreed to a 12 percent pay cut, earning Rs 2 crore less. Glenn Maxwell View this post on Instagram The Australian all-rounder produced his best IPL performance ever and played a key role as the franchise reached the knockout stage in IPL 2021. The hard-hitting batter was bought by RCB in a mini-auction ahead of this year’s IPL for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore. After exceeding all expectations, one would have expected Maxwell to get a similar contract but his salary has been reduced by 23 percent, agreeing to a new contract worth Rs 11 crore. Sunil Narine View this post on Instagram Despite playing a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reaching the final in this year’s two-legged IPL, the West Indies spinner Sunil Narine took the biggest pay cut among all high-profile players. The mystery spinner who used to earn Rs 8.50 crore till this year has agreed to nearly 30 percent pay cut. The two-time champions retained Narine as their fourth choice pick, giving him a contract worth Rs 6 crore. View the full article

  8. A couple of days ago, it was reported that Rahul Dravid had politely declined the BCCI when they had approached him to assume the position of the Indian Head Coach after Ravi Shastri’s tenure comes to an end following the T20 World Cup 2021. The reason Dravid gave for not taking the job was that he was wanted to continue to focus on junior players and do his duties as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in his hometown of Bengaluru. According to reports, Rahul Dravid, the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has "politely" declined the BCCI's offer to replace Ravi Shastri as Team India's head coach. pic.twitter.com/OkYNGu8xxr — India Updates (@theindiaupdate) October 13, 2021 However, a new report by The Times of India has suggested that the former Indian skipper finally accepted the role during the Indian Premier League final between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. “Dravid has confirmed he will be the next head coach of the Indian team. He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon,” a top BCCI official told the publication following the IPL final in the United Arab Emirates. What a news#RahulDravid pic.twitter.com/YEkPTQIXsm — GANESH YADAV TAMMALALA (@Ganeshyadav1404) October 16, 2021 “He was re-appointed as the NCA head last month. But the BCCI needed a strong candidate to take Indian cricket forward. He has worked so hard to develop the next line of Indian cricketers. Even Mhambrey knows this next lot of players like the back of his hand. So, Ganguly and Shah thought it would be best if they could bring both of them on board. They will assume charge from the New Zealand series after the World Cup,” added the source. The report also confirms that Dravid’s right-hand man, Paras Mhambrey is also being appointed as the next bowling coach for the Men in Blue. According to the same report, Vikram Rathour is to continues as the batting coach, while there is no update on the replacement for R Sridar as the fielding coach. There is no better replacement of Bharat Arun as bowling coach for #TeamIndia. Paras Mhambrey appointed as bowling coach with Rahul Dravid together is not a surprise. Dravid has preferred him to work with in all the India A & u19 assignments till date. He was there in SL as well. pic.twitter.com/rdGsnrLNFU — Kaushik (@_CricKaushik_) October 15, 2021 According to the information shared by the BCCI official, it is understood that Dravid has agreed to become the Indian head coach for a tenure of two years with an annual salary worth Rs 10 crore, which is close to what the current head coach Ravi Shastri is drawing from the Indian cricket board after his 20% raise back in 2019.
