  3. A double-decker bus on a road of London. Photo:File LONDON: The Transport for London (TfL) has ordered over 100 red buses to immediately remove posters carrying slogans against Pakistan. A spokesman for the TfL, the body that runs London?s transport network, told The News that it has started a high-profile internal inquiry against its staff who cleared the advertisement which clearly broke the advertising rules. It?s understood that the TfL has asked the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) to explain why it approved the adverts that appeared on London buses. It has been confirmed that posters from 35 buses were removed on Wednesday and the rest will be removed on Thursday by the enforcement officers, appointed by the TfL. Speaking to this correspondent, the TfL said that the latest advertisement campaign was in violation of the advertising guidelines set by the government. He said it was clear that the incompetence on part of some of its employees had been used to target Pakistan. ?This advert does not comply with our advertising guidelines. It was accepted in error by our advertising partner and was not referred to us for our consideration. We have instructed that all such adverts must be removed immediately,? the TfL spokesperson said. The adverts were launched first on London cabs and then on buses by a group calling itself World Baloch Organisation. Then on billboards pictures of Bhawal Mengal also appeared along with the posters. He is nephew of exiled Baloch leader Mehran Marri but Baloch sources have confirmed that Mehran Baloch, who is understood to be in Switzerland these days, has nothing to do with this campaign. Mehran Baloch has been campaigning at the European level for almost two decades and has been living in London too but his associates have denied any link with the latest campaign. The London advertisement campaign is copy of the campaign run in Geneva two months ago by the Balochistan House organisation. It was only last week that the TfL ordered the removal of offensive advertisements from London cabs immediately which carried the same slogans and posters on cabs that were then carried on London buses. It?s understood that the Advertising Standards Agency has also launched an internal inquiry against four staff members who approved adverts for cabs and buses. The TfL said that it was not aware that advertisement has also been booked for the buses when it ordered removal of adverts from black cabs last week. The Pakistan High Commission confirmed that it has made complaint to the TfL on both occasions and has been assured by TfL that it will investigate the matter fully.
  4. ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua on Friday conveyed to British High Commissioner Thomas Drew Pakistan?s serious concerns at the display of slogans on London cabs which directly attack the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, Janjua called on the Drew and informed him that Pakistan, in line with the UN Charter, rejects actions and advertisements with malicious content that impinge on the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The issue was also being raised with the Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office by Pakistan's high commissioner in London, added the statement. ?Pakistan is aware of the intentions of such sinister and malicious campaigns, which should not be allowed on the soil of a friendly country,? the press release said further.
  5. KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan leader Dr Farooq Sattar has strongly condemned the anti-Pakistan activities of Nadeem Nusrat, and expressed disassociation of his party with the London-based leader. Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, Dr Sattar said he strongly condemns Nusrat's meeting with anti-Pakistan lobbies in his recent visit to the United States. The MQM-P leader called the activities of Nusrat a "continuation of August 22 policies". Dr Sattar warned the MQM founder against misusing the Mohajir name, saying that audio statements from London and Nusrat's meeting with anti-Pakistan elements were not in the favour of the Mohajir community. MQM-London seeks help of US congressmen The MQM?s London-based founder approved the plan to reach out to those organisations and US lawmakers who have traditionally worked for lobbies working against Pakistan. ?Activities of Nadeem Nusrat are not in the favor of Mohajirs, neither do they represent the aspirations of the Mohajir people. We cannot give permission to Nadeem Nusrat to meeting with anti-Pakistan lobbies and conspire against Pakistan, its people, and its army in the name of Mohajirs.? ?No Mohajir in his right state of mind can accept that any state institution was behind the murder of Amjad Sabri, the plane crash in which Junaid Jamshed died, or the unfortunate accident of Ahmedpur Sharqiya," Dr Sattar said in response to a recent controversial audio statement made by Nusrat. ?Concocted...stories have nothing to do with reality,? the MQM-Pakistan leader said. He added that Nadeem Nusrat "does not have the mandate of the people of Pakistan.? MQM-London seeks help of anti-Pakistan US congressmen Sattar's press conference follows Nusrat's recent meeting with US Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher and Ted Poe, who are known to have a track record of campaigning and lobbying against the Pakistani state. Dana Rohrabacher is known for being on the pay of Indian lobbyists and a few years back demanded a referendum to be held in Balochistan. Nusrat and Rohrabacher met for three hours and in a joint statement alleged that Pakistan was ?sponsoring extremist groups as proxies in the region?. Nadeem Nusrat (centre) pictured here with US congressmen Dana Rohrabacher and Ted Poe. The MQM-London confirmed Nusrat's meeting with Ted Poe at the Capitol Hill and his following speech against Pakistan. Moreover, Dana Rohrabacher is known for being on the pay of Indian lobbyists. Congressman Ted Poe, who is known to be linked with the Indian lobby, invited the attention of the US government towards alleged human rights violations. In a statement, the MQM-London accused Pakistan of ?suppressing? Mohajirs and demanded cutting of US aid to Pakistan. Ted Poe told the Congress that he was raising the issue because the ?World Muhajir Congress has written a letter to the United States Congress?. It is understood that the World Muhajir Council is linked with the MQM-London and its press releases have been issued from MQM-London?s office and from the official MQM email addresses.
  6. Former president, General (retired) Pervez Musharraf has said that Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is taking anti-Pakistan actions. "The Indian PM does not want to resolve problems between the two countries, although being a bigger economy, India would have to take the first step," Musharraf said in an interview to an Indian television channel. The former chief of army staff said that ‘anti-Muslim’ activity is on the rise in India. “India has lost its secular credentials and become anti-Muslim,” he said. Musharraf said that the Pakistani nation is more progressive and moderate than Indians, which is why religious parties in Pakistan have never been in a position to form a government, whereas an extremist party (Bharatiya Janata Party) is in power in India. Discussing his views on the political situation in Pakistan, the former president said that a third political power is required in the country. He expressed his desire to visit Pakistan and hoped that the armed forces would help him in that regard. Read more: Musharraf wants to return if provided foolproof security
