It’s very difficult for comedians to crack a joke without hurting someone’s sentiments. Only a few can actually make people laugh without using any offensive and racist slurs, double-meaning jokes and sexist punchlines. YouTuber Bhuvan Bam, famous for his channel ‘BB Ki Vines’ and one of the most popular content creators on social media, is not exactly known for ‘clean comedy’. He recently found himself in trouble for objectifying women in one of his latest videos ‘Automatic Gaadi’. While some of his fans (mostly men) lauded the comedian for the video and found it funny, others objected to it for being extremely condescending to women. I’m aware that a section in my video has hurt some people. I have edited it to remove that part. People who know me know I have utmost respect for women. I had no intention to hurt anyone. Oscars have always been iconic, but the one we witnessed this year was something we won’t ever forget. Ideally, that sentiment should arise for particular wins and celebrations of movies and actors that deserve such an accolade, but what really ended up making the Oscars unforgettable was a bad joke by comedian Chris Rock and an even worse reaction from Will Smith. What HappenedWhile presenting an award for best documentary, Rock jokes, "Jada I love you, 'G.I. Jane 2,' can't wait to see it," taking a dig at Jada for her hair loss that was a result of an autoimmune condition she suffers from called alopecia. Will Smith just punched Chris Rock and told him "keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth" pic.twitter.com/1f1ytdbMRv — CJ Fogler (@cjzer0) March 28, 2022 Not taking the joke well, Smith is seen marching up to the comedian and striking him across the face, only to then walk back to his seat and shout, “Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!" What Followed What followed was a professional reaction from Chris Rock, who then called it the ‘greatest night in the history of television,’ and Will Smith took the stage again in a while to receive an Oscar for the best actor. View this post on Instagram It took mere minutes for the internet to be flooded with memes and subsequently be divided in the opinion of whether or not they supported Will’s actions. Yes, the joke was bad, it was a low blow. But to walk up to someone on live TV and slap them wasn’t very big of Smith either. Will Smith’s ApologyPerhaps, that is the same realisation that dawned on Will Smith, for he made a public apology for his actions. In a post on Instagram, Smith wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.” View this post on Instagram He continued saying, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness." He finally concluded by writing how he is ‘a work in progress’ and wrote, “I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family.
