  1. The 3rd Test between India and Australia might have failed to find a winner, but it will surely be remembered as one of the most exciting encounters of the year 2021. While the exemplary fighting spirit displayed by Indian batsmen on Day 5 surely took the spotlight, the contest at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) witnessed its fair share of controversial moments. Whether it was Tim Paine's unwarranted banter with Ravichandran Ashwin or the cheating claims levelled against Steve Smith, the Sydney Test was marred with unforgettable incidents. But amongst those, the alleged racial abuse of Indian bowlers by the Australian fans at the SCG remains the biggest talking point. © AP The likes of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah had lodged an official complaint against the crowd after being subjected to racial abuse over the course of the first three days of the 3rd Test. But, the racial abuse continued on during the fourth day's play and the Indian pace-bowling duo complained again leading to the eviction of six spectators from the stadium. View this post on Instagram On 12th January, a day after the draw at the SCG, Australian opener David Warner took to social media and rendered a heartfelt apology to Siraj and the Indian team. "I'd also like to say sorry to @mohammedsirajofficial and the Indian team as racism, and abuse is not in any way acceptable or tolerated anywhere at any time, and I would expect better from our home crowd," Warner wrote on Instagram. © Reuters The left-hander also spoke about the result before congratulating the Indian team for their gritty batting display. "It was great to be back out on the park again this week. Was not the ideal result for us but this is what Test cricket is all about. 5 days of tough cricket and well done to our guys for working as hard as we could, congrats to India in the way they fought hard for the draw, and that's why we love this game, it's not easy," he added. Following a draw at the SCG, the action now moves to the lively Gabba track in Brisbane where both India and Australia will be eager to settle the four-match series which is currently evenly poised at 1-1. 2. An exemplary fighting spirit thoroughly highlighted in their batting display on Day 5 saw India eke out a remarkable draw in the 3rd Test against Australia. With 97 overs to play and eight wickets in hand, India managed to keep Australia and a certain defeat at bay to keep the four-match Test series evenly poised at 1-1. Despite facing an opponent that had a battered and bruised batting line-up, further weakened by the notable absence of their regular captain and best batsman Virat Kohli, a full-strength Australian bowling attack failed to overcome the resilience of the opposition batsmen. The frustrating draw further saw the hosts earning a lot of flak from the fans on social media. Paine can't shut his gloves or mouth in time #AUSvIND — Mohan Kumar S (@mohan_sachin007) January 11, 2021 Australian captain Tim Paine, in particular, was at the centre of the criticism for his on-field exploits. If dropping three crucial catches on Day 5 cut him a sorry figure, the fact that Paine was involved in an unwarranted banter with Ravichandran Ashwin further dented his reputation on social media. A day later, the Australian captain, realising his mistake, rendered an apology for his conduct at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during a virtual press-conference on 12th January. "I'm human, I want to apologise for the mistakes that I made. I'm someone who prides themselves on the way I lead this team and yesterday was a poor reflection," Paine was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. © AP "My leadership wasn't good enough, I let the pressure of the game get to me. It affected my mood and then from there affected my performance. I said to our players yesterday 'I've had a really poor game as a leader'. I let our group down," he added. Paine to Ashwin I can’t wait to get you to the Gabba. Just like you want to get to India? Maybe your last series. Are you a selector here as well? At least my teammates like me,dickhead. (Wade’s) got more Indian friends than you. Even your teammates think you’re a goose. #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/LsLYnbMxAL — Jagadeesh Johnny (@JagadeeshJohnny) January 11, 2021 Frustrated by the ever-growing partnership between Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari on Day 5, Paine had resorted to sledging in a bid to get under the skin of the Indian off-spinner who had his own clinical response for the Oz skipper. Talking about his conversation with Ashwin after the draw, Paine said: "I told him 'I ended up looking the fool, didn't I?'. You open your mouth and then you drop a catch. We had a bit of a laugh about that". Paine was also fined 15 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent over an on-field umpire's call. He was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. View the full article
  3. Amitabh Bachchan is extremely active on Twitter and was more so in 2020. Big B is the second most-followed person on Twitter, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He keeps sharing anecdotes from his past and also shares motivational poems but this time, he goofed up. However, he was quick to apologize publicly on his Twitter account. He wrote, “T 3765 - @TishaAgarwal14 .. 4. The least someone can do is apologize after rightfully getting called out, but actually owning up to your mistake is something not everyone knows how to do. And, the biggest disappointment is that someone as unproblematic as Vikrant Massey is disappointing us right now. A few hours ago, the Mirzapur actor decided to call out the government for cancelling the winter session because of the pandemic when previously that did not matter. © Mensxp He had the right sentiment, he obviously has the right to question authorities, but when he ended his tweet with 'Dainty little princesses', people were upset, and rightfully so. We can have massive election rallies, a brief Monsoon session during the peak, but no Winter session...Why? Cos we’re in the middle of a pandemic. Dainty little princesses!!! — Vikrant Massey (@masseysahib) December 17, 2020 The fact he used the term 'princess' in a demeaning way is obviously not okay and while it may not be the end of the world, it's still something he can correct in the future. After some constructive criticism, he tweeted his not-so-sincere apology, doubling down on his initial point. To all the wonderful souls out there who found my previous tweet “misogynistic” I SINCERELY APOLOGISE as it was never the intention. Meanwhile thank you for restoring my faith that Twitter is a shit-hole & misinterpreting something, said by someone you don’t even know. 🏽 — Vikrant Massey (@masseysahib) December 17, 2020 No, the response he got was basically people politely telling him that his tweet sounded sexist. Yes Twitter can be a vile place, but as far as I could see, his replies weren't overtly negative. Haan, ho gaya, we just expect better from you. Didi, ho gaya ab! 🏽 — Vikrant Massey (@masseysahib) December 17, 2020 Okay, then. 🤣 — Vikrant Massey (@masseysahib) December 17, 2020 It's because of this kind of mindset that sometimes you need to be aware of what you're putting out in the world. Feminism is uncured Cancer & is spreading like Corona Virus. Period! — Nihal Khaan (@NihalSayss) December 17, 2020 Very well put. Vikrant, you don't have to be defensive in response to fair criticism. You didn't need to throw a sexist shade in the original tweet and that's what people pointed out. Introspecting and acknowledging one's mistakes never harms anyone. https://t.co/UczPr3tpTS — Priyanka Sharma (@iPriyanka_S) December 17, 2020 Exactly. Try not to use the female gender as weak to compare with from the next time maybe... https://t.co/WJKifqc9VB — Dory (@dreamin_dory) December 17, 2020 That's the entire point. Agree with the sentiment but the language is sexist. Please refrain from that princesses are dainty https://t.co/PUNW4YkGpr — Namita (@iNamitaPrakash) December 17, 2020 Casual sexism should not be ignored. Peak of casual sexism also noted. https://t.co/nZ4Xp3Ie4a — Adrija Chatterjee (@adrijac) December 17, 2020 Yes, only if it wasn't for those last three words. Young and talented actors showing spine https://t.co/fSjcBahANr — Vinod Kapri (@vinodkapri) December 17, 2020 Yes, seriously. Misogyny??? Cos I called them dainty princesses? Like seriously? I guess we can calm a bit down generally and get the gist of what I’m saying. — Vikrant Massey (@masseysahib) December 17, 2020 The replies are way too civil for Twitter and he still got offended. Massey Saab just won my day. Also, they are dainty little prince and princesses. Here, fixed it. — arpita_sarker (@arpita_sa) December 17, 2020 View the full article
  5. After attracting immense criticism on social media, Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim has rendered an apology to his Beximco Dhaka teammate Nasum Ahmed and fans for the shocking on-field misconduct. In what was arguably one of the worst displays by a player on the cricket field, Rahim almost ended up slapping his teammate Nasum Ahmed after some miscommunication over a catch during the Bangabandhu T20 Cup tie. In the 17th over, Fortune Barishal batsman Asif Hossain was looking to sneak a single when he lofted the ball high towards short fine leg. Both Rahim and his teammate Nasum ran towards the ball before the former completed an easy catch. Calm down, Rahim. Literally. What a chotu ( @imrickyb) pic.twitter.com/657O5eHzqn — Nikhil (@CricCrazyNIKS) December 14, 2020 But, right after collecting the ball in the gloves, Rahim was seen threatening to slap Nasum before verbally attacking his teammate. Soon, the other players intervened and tried to calm things down but Rahim continued to scold poor Nasum who, eventually, found some comfort in his other mates. Taking note of his ghastly behaviour, the 33-year-old took to social media and apologised for his objectionable antics. In a post shared on Instagram, Rahim shared a photo where he was seen sitting with Nasum. Apart from the photo, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper also shared a few words as part of his apology. View this post on Instagram "Assalamualaikum to all, First of all officially I would like to apologize to all my fans and spectators regarding the incident that happened yesterday during the match. I have already apologized after the game to my fellow teammate Nasum. Secondly, I seek forgiveness from the Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all. In shaa Allah in near future, I promise it won't be repeated on the ground or outside the ground. JazakAllah khair," Rahim's Instagram post read. Surprisingly, Rahim hasn't been charged or penalised for his misdemeanour, so far. Match Referee Raqibul Hasan claimed that any action taken will depend on the umpires' report. "According to the code of conduct, no one can disrespect his own team-mate or opponent. It looked odd. The umpires will investigate the matter. It depends on the umpires' report. I haven't received anything officially," Hasan told Prothom Alo. Yeah, these are players representing a nation. They should be taught how to handle such situations. Ok lost cool for a second understandable. But that youngster kept his cool, senior player kept on scolding and drawing unnecessary attention. — Abhishek (@Abhishek2321993) December 14, 2020 The BCB's chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury also condemned Rahim's behaviour. "They (the match officials) will look into the matter. If they feel that it should be brought to our consideration, then we can look at it. Mushfiqur should have shown restraint. I am sure no one needs to teach him these things after playing 15 years at the highest level," Chowdhury told Kaler Kantho. View the full article

  7. Saif Ali Khan irked a lot of people when he talked about his upcoming film Adipurush and essaying the character of Raavan in the project in one of the recent interviews. He told Mumbai Mirror, "It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose." People started to trend hashtags #WakeUpOmRaut and #ReplaceSaifasLankesh. Now, Saif has apologized for his statements and withdrawn them. Sharing clarification regarding his statement on his Adipurush character of Ravana, Saif said on Sunday: “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologize to everybody and withdraw my statement” He added, “Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.” It seems like people aren’t ready to forgive him for his statements and have even dragged his son Taimur Ali Khan into this controversy. #SaifAliKhan is an ungrateful just like #javedakhtar & #munawwarrana He named his son #TaimurAliKhan - after a plunderer, rap!st & k!ller. 10. Kim Jong-Un may often be called the modern day Genghis Khan for his tyrannous ways, although most people still find it baffling how this man manages to remain so mysterious despite being such a hot topic of discussion around the world. Known for his love for absolute power and authority, sprinkled with a roaring desire to be the supreme leader of a country that would one day become world superpower, Kim Jong-Un can probably go to any lengths to make that happen - even if it means caging and whipping his own country men to fuel his dreams and realise it. © TwitterSMDRNews However, hours ago, in a rare show of human emotions, Kim Jong-Un was seen “weeping” while he begged forgiveness from his people for his failures during the coronavirus pandemic and admitted that he has not 'always lived up to' the trust placed in him. The incident took place while Kim Jong-un was speaking at a military parade to mark the 75th anniversary of the country's ruling Workers' party. This is the translation The Korea Times carried - 'Our people have placed trust, as high as the sky and as deep as the sea, in me, but I have failed to always live up to it satisfactorily. I am really sorry for that,’ Kim Jong-Un had reportedly said. © Twittermashable He had further added, “Although I am entrusted with the important responsibility to lead this country upholding the cause of the great Comrades Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il thanks to the trust of all the people, my efforts and sincerity have not been sufficient enough to rid our people of the difficulties in their lives. ” Now, while opposition leader in South Korea, Kim Chong-in, dismissed the act and called it 'appalling crocodile tears', here’s what others have to say about it on social media. Recently, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which was passed on December 11 by the government. Many of the B-town celebrities kept quiet on this subject, however, the 47-year-old filmmaker stood firm in his stance and didn't shy away from speaking his mind and we love that about him. 13. ROME: The artist who created images of monkeys for an anti-racism campaign by Italy´s Serie A said his work was misunderstood, but apologised to those offended. The Italian artist, Simone Fugazzotto, told La Repubblica that his idea to portray whites, Asians and blacks as monkeys was intended to be a "defence tool" against the insulting term often hurled at black football players by some Italian fans. The campaign launched on Monday by the Italian league immediately drew criticism for its triptych of monkey faces in close-up, each with a slightly different colour. "As an artist, nothing obligates me to do anything, but of course I join with the league´s apologies to those who felt offended," Fugazzotto said, adding he had been painting monkeys throughout his career. A football fan, Fugazzotto said he himself had witnessed fans at the stadium making monkey noises and throwing bananas at black players. "I decided to make everyone a monkey. A Caucasian monkey, an Asian monkey, an African monkey," he explained, in an attempt to turn the concept of a monkey as a derogatory term on its head. He initially wanted the images to accompany text saying "We are all monkeys," he said. Fugazzotto almost always paints monkeys in a variety of styles, wearing human clothing and representing different cultures and historical periods.
  14. Arguably one of the sweetest guys in the ever-competitive world of football, Son Heung-min endured one of the most emotional moments of his career on 3rd November. During Tottenham Hotspurs' visit to Goodison Park over the weekend, Son was handed a red card for his sliding tackle on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes. While the 79th-minute challenge saw the Spurs forward getting the marching orders from the referee, it led to a fracture dislocation of the right ankle of the Portuguese international. On one hand, where Gomes was stretchered off in agonising pain, Son was overwhelmed with emotions and appeared inconsolable before heading down the tunnel. Following the freak injury, Gomes has undergone successful ankle surgery and has been released from the hospital. The South Korean star, too, had some respite from an independent panel that overturned his red card following an appeal by Spurs. Despite his red card being overturned, Son was doubtful for the UEFA Champions League group clash against Red Star Belgrade owing to his fragile psychological state. But, the South Korean international didn't just show up in the Spurs' jersey, but scored two brilliant goals to seal a 4-0 victory for Mauricio Pochettino's men. And, that was not all. The 27-year-old's touching gesture for injury-stricken Gomes, once again, proved why he is not only considered a prolific footballer, but also a great human being. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring for Spurs in the 34th minute during the Group B clash on 7th November. And, 12 minutes into the second-half, Tanguy Ndombele led a quick counter-attack feeding Dele Alli who played it off to his left for Son to smash it into the top-left corner past Belgrade goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Son scores a goal and celebrates by still apologizing for that Andre Gomes tackle. Four minutes later, the Spurs forward scored his second goal of the night to cap off a brilliant performance at the Red Star stadium. Son scores a super goal and goes to the camera and says sorry down the lens, presumably aimed at Andre Gomes. Nice touch. — Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) November 6, 2019 Following their 4-0 win, thanks to the 85th-minute goal by Christian Eriksen, Son, who is understood to have sent Gomes a personal message earlier this week, revealed: "I didn't want to celebrate because I just want to respect the situation. I wish Andre Gomes to get well soon and best wishes". Son Heung-min after @crvenazvezdafk - @SpursOfficial about Gomes: It was a really, really tough few days. I realised how lucky I am to have the supporters, my friends, my teammates – everyone gave me such strong messages. pic.twitter.com/LEhBF0SKdi — Telegraf Sport (@TelegrafSport) November 7, 2019 Speaking for the first time about the incident, he confessed the emotional aftermath of Gomes' sickening ankle injury has been difficult to cope with. "It was a really, really tough few days. But everyone gave me such strong messages. I can say I'm really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going and it was the right response to all the people who have supported me. I realised how lucky I am. The supporters, friends and teammates," he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. View the full article
  15. Ever since their dismal outing at the ICC World Cup in England & Wales, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been hell-bent on fixing impending issues in the national team to prepare themselves better for future assignments. The PCB got rid of coach Mickey Arthur and the majority of the support staff. There have been noticeable changes in developmental cricket in the country and, there has also been a key focus on the diet of the cricketers. In a bid to bring in a major overhaul of the national team, the PCB recently took another key decision by sacking Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of their Test and T20I sides. The cricket board has elevated the likes of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam to leadership roles in Tests and T20Is respectively. © Reuters Sarfaraz has been calling the shots as captain for Pakistan in all three formats for the last two years. He was at the helm of affairs when Pakistan sprung a surprise on arch-rivals India to win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. But, his captaincy has come under scrutiny in the last two years. Under his captaincy, Pakistan has slipped in Test and ODI team rankings. And, more recently, a depleted Sri Lankan side whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 in the T20I series at home. With his own form suffering with the bat, speculations were rife that the new head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq would bring in considerable changes, with many expecting an axe on Sarfaraz. While it's too early to comment on whether the move will aid Pakistan or not, the PCB found themselves in a peculiar situation after their recent decision. Right after announcing Sarfaraz's sacking, the PCB released a video of the Pakistan squad dancing during a training session. Here is â¦@TheRealPCBâ© tweet moments after Sarfaraz was sacked. Classy. The PCB apologies for this post and accepts the timing of it was wrong. This was a pre-planned post as part of the one-year to go #T20WorldCup promotional campaign. The timing of this post clashed with the captaincy announcement for which the PCB offers its regrets. — Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) October 18, 2019 After being called out on Twitter, the PCB was quick to delete their insensitive tweet and rendered an apology. "The PCB apologies for this post and accepts the timing of it was wrong. This was a pre-planned post as part of the one-year to go #T20WorldCup promotional campaign. The timing of this post clashed with the captaincy announcement for which the PCB offers its regrets," the PCB tweeted.
