  1. For all who swear by Uber India, another episode of verbal harassment killed the sweet joy-ride for a woman and her husband, who'd taken the cab on a hot sultry day in the national capital. The woman, Amrita Das, who is a Delhi-based-journalist, experienced lewd comments and misbehaviour from the Uber driver, while she and her husband were travelling in his cab. She took to Twitter to share her ordeal. © Twitter "Rude and creepy driver. I demand action. First, he refused to turn on the air conditioner, then says garmi lag rahi hai to aage mere godi me baith jao [If you are feeling hot then come and sit on my lap]. He also ended the trip, moments after starting to drive and forced me out. This is when I was with husband," she tweeted. @Uber_Delhi @Uber @Uber_Support rude and creepy driver. I demand action. First he refused to turn on ac then says garmi lag rahi hai to age mere godi me baith jao. He also ended trip moments after starting to drive and forced me out. This is when I was with husband. @DelhiPolice pic.twitter.com/qE40ib3B5d — Amrita D (@amritadas) 19 March 2019 And yes, Uber did respond to her Tweet but it was not the kind of response we were hoping for. They said: "We're so sorry to hear about this. Our team has recently responded via email. Please reply there if you have additional questions." We're so sorry to hear about this. Our team has recently responded via email. Please reply there if you have additional questions! — Uber Support (@Uber_Support) 19 March 2019 This isn't the first time an Uber driver has shown misconduct towards a female passenger in Delhi. There have been numerous cases reported of women being molested or being talked back rudely to, while riding an Uber. Just recently Mallika Dua encountered an Uber driver who chose to abuse her when she asked him to increase the temperature of the air conditioning. But this incident with Amrita Das is a new low altogether, wherein the Uber driver isn't just insulting her request, he's being lewd and inappropriate with her as well. Although, Uber has received the complaint, just like always, their complacency over this matter will also rule the roost, just like the rest of them have in the past. They probably won't take action against the driver and he'll carry on driving in the city, passing horrible remarks to other women who hail his cab. © Twitter The need of the hour is for Uber to step up on their hiring operations and also take vital responsibility towards several complaints they receive about their drivers. The drivers should be thoroughly scanned before they are hired and if they misbehave, they should definitely be fired, on the ground. We're not sure why Uber dictates such apathy towards these issues but we're hopeful they'll change their ways soon before something more drastic happens. Meanwhile, Twitter came out in support of Amrita and this is what most of them had to say: Worst part is..Uber doesn't have an emergency contact number in India.. happened to us as well...hope you are okay.. — Naren (@shipsdeet) 19 March 2019 This is serious. No response from @DelhiPolice @DelhiTrafficPol ? Don't hesitate in filing a police complaint. @Uber_Support Do you not verify drivers' credentials before hiring? @Uppolice and @uptrafficpolice also need to look into the matter, since the car has no. plate of UP — Half Expert (@akul_nishant) 19 March 2019 @Uber_Support Taking this particular driver as reference, I'd like to know how do you ensure something like this does not happen again? Is he going to be let off with a warning? Or sacked? Or sensitised? What are the concrete steps you're taking to make your riders feel safe? — Abhishek Sinha (@raptorhands) 19 March 2019 Sick and tired of @Uber_Delhi drivers. No action taken even after having multiple harrowing experiences. Sack this driver! — Dylan San Delo (@theparambhole16) 19 March 2019 Uber has gone worst in NCR. If u'd ask to turn on AC, they'll lecture you on whether. Cab drivers in their 'prime category' are even worst. — Piyush Hans (@HansPiyush) 19 March 2019 That's why girls still hesitate to travel alone.. When will this change ð — Divya Sharma (@DivyaSh92292336) 19 March 2019 Why @DelhiPolice u aren't responding U must learn from @MumbaiPolice who are prompt in responding to public calls, they respond to even every smallest tweet — âsâ (@arieotic) 20 March 2019 Sorry from @Uber_Support isn't an answer. @DelhiPolice must take action against the driver. https://t.co/ENCI3ty20t — Mohd Mustaquim (@Mustaquimm) 20 March 2019 This is genuinely a very common occurrence. Uber should definitely suspend such drivers. — AARUSHI005 (@Aarushiwith2As) 20 March 2019 The most pertinent question though is when will women feel safe in this city? Put aside single women travelling alone, even women travelling with male companions face such threats too. Unless Uber India decisively takes action against their drivers, the situation's not going to change for sure.
  2. "This is one of New Zealand's darkest days," Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, as the country mourns the loss of people who were killed in the attacks on two Christchurch mosques. On Friday, the prayers of worshippers at a mosque turned into screams after a gunman mercilessly opened fire. According to the New Zealand Police, the death toll has risen over 40 and nearly 20 people have been injured. © Reuters However, this terror attack has landed famous YouTuber PewDiePie in trouble. Reportedly, out of the multiple terrorists who conducted the mass shooting, one of the gunmen live-streamed the attack and in the video he asked people to subscribe to PewDiePie. Yes, PewDiePie. The same YouTuber who has the highest number of subscribers and was recently in news for fighting with Ekta Kapoor on social media and competing with T-Series in the race for subscribers. "Remember lads, subscribe to Pewdiepie," the gunman reportedly said. © AP We're not saying PewDiePie is related to this attack in any way nor are we trying to troll or defame him. But, given his history of racist and controversial humour, people can't help but connect the dots. However, post the heinous attack and the mention of his channel in the live stream, PewDiePie has now reacted to it and says he feels 'sickened' that his name was uttered by the person. He wrote on Twitter, "Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch. I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person. My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy." Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch. I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person. My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy. — ƿ૯ωá«É¿à«¯Æ¿É¿à«¯ (@pewdiepie) March 15, 2019 According to a report in India Today, the gunman apparently visited 8Chan before murdering people on Friday and left this message there "Please do your part by spreading my message, making memes and shit-posting as you usually do." Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones in this deadly terror attack and we hope that people of New Zealand get the strength to live through this dark time.
  3. Accused of corruption and spot-fixing in an internal inquiry held by BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit led by Ravi Sawani, during the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013, S Sreesanth gets partial relief from the Supreme Court, that slashed the life ban imposed on the Kerala-born cricketer while urging the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to revisit the punishment for his alleged crimes. A similar verdict was made public back in 2017 when a single-benched Kerala High Court which was spearheaded by Justice A Muhamed Mustaque, removed the BCCI-led lifetime ban on the pacer's cricketing career. However, the decision was reversed within two months as a division bench of the high court restored the life sentence following the Indian cricket board's appeal against Justice Mustaque's verdict. Now, after years of relentless appeals made by the cricketer to the Indian judicial system to override the Board's “completely unfair” punishment, the Supreme Court may have given him a second chance to make good of his career as an Indian cricketer. Having said that, the highest court of the country didn't fail to mention that they did not question the efforts put in by BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit nor did it challenge the authenticity of the findings made by the committee towards Sreesanth's guilt. "In the context of facts and manner in which these things have happened, this court should consider that it (life ban on Sreesanth by BCCI) is unfair. He has suffered for the last five-six years. People want him to play cricket. He was extremely loyal to BCCI," Sreesanth's lawyer and senior advocate Salman Khurshid, appealed to the bench. With Supreme Court providing the cricketer with a green chit to rejuvenate his cricketing career, the ball is in the BCCI's court. Having won the World Cup with the Indian cricket team in 2011, Sreesanth has often expressed his desire to officially return to the field. At 35 years of age, he even promised to give the youngsters a run for their money if the Board lifted the ban.
  4. Remember how much outrage there was when it became mandatory for all movie theatres to play the National Anthem before every movie? Well, Air India is also now doing something slightly similar. According to an Air India advisory, that was issued to all the crew members yesterday, they now have to say 'Jai Hind' with a “slight pause and much fervour” after every single announcement that is made. Yep. The patriotism is all set to take off. Air India crew now needs to announce "Jai Hind" on all its flights as per a new order today: pic.twitter.com/2Adtr34eTK — Tarun Shukla (@shukla_tarun) March 4, 2019 As expected, it got a lot of reactions online with people making fun of it, to straight up calling it forced nationalism. Here's what everyone is saying: Maybe. Now with this new move, I'm sure Air India will soon become profitable. Jai Hind! pic.twitter.com/5Am6UyiQPe — Harsh Goenka (@hvgoenka) March 4, 2019 Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also had some inputs. Little surprise that with General Elections around the corner, the josh of patriotism hasn't even spared the skies. https://t.co/AyVvEPDU3u — Mehbooba Mufti (@MehboobaMufti) March 5, 2019 Jai Hind, but with a question mark. “Air India regret the delay in the departure of your flight” ...(slight pause) ... “Jai Hind”? — shiven surendranath (@shivens) March 4, 2019 That's exactly how it will go down. What then will transpire in an emergency situation once the announcement becomes a habit? 1 sec lost for every direction issued? Find nearest exit, jai hind. Look for oxygen masks, jai hind. Find floatation device beneath seat, jai hin-- https://t.co/SVrPiQLcGa — medhachakrabartty (@medhac1) March 4, 2019 It honestly does. First, a demand that audiences in cinema halls stand up for the national anthem, and now this! All Indians love India, national sentiment comes naturally. No need to force feed nationalism down our throats! India deserves better ! https://t.co/L2VxdV3JtM — Malini Parthasarathy (@MaliniP) March 5, 2019 I like how the tweet ended. Air India crew has been instructed to say 'Jai Hind' after every announcement in the flight! 'Muscular nationalism' is THE ISSUE in 2019. Jai Hind! pic.twitter.com/sCNPmE2Jdp — Sukesh Ranjan (@RanjanSukesh) March 4, 2019 Please don't. As per a new order Air India crew have to say 'Jai Hind' after every announcement on all flights. Please don't forget to salute if you see one flying in the sky. — Ram Subramanian (@VORdotcom) March 4, 2019 It sure is! Air India announcements now end with "Jai hind" - was this always the case it is it new? Either way it's embarrassing. — radhika vaz (@radvaz) September 26, 2017 I will honestly do it for first class. No not enough. The crew must also yell “how's the josh?” Once everybody has boarded. The loudest “high sir” and “jai hind” shall be upgraded to first class. — Divyank Panwar (@divyank_14) March 4, 2019 Yes. while landing everyone is supposed to sing national anthem as well? — ivansikorsky (@ivan_sikorsky) March 4, 2019 Yes, this too. Next what, National Anthem before take off? https://t.co/OjJZzbBTt2 — Srivatsa (@srivatsayb) March 4, 2019
  5. In a one of a kind incident, the first of five ODI matches to be played between India and New Zealand was temporarily halted as the setting sun was adversely impacting the batsmen's sight, causing them discomfort. Meanwhile in Napier...#NZvIND pic.twitter.com/3p5j18O3hg — ICC (@ICC) January 23, 2019 "The setting sun is directly in the eyes of the batsmen. So we got to consider the safety of the players, umpires. So we have decided to suspend play until conditions improve. This is the first time in my 14 years that I have seen something like this happen on a cricket field. Good news is we have 30 minutes extra time. We are hoping to be back in 30 minutes and it will still be a 50-over game," umpire Shaun Haig explained. The problem seems to be with the orientation of Napier's McLean Park cricket ground in which the wicket runs from East to West unlike a typical pitch running from North to South. After the match, when Bill Dalton, Mayor of Napier was asked about the uncanny incident by local press, he said: “To be absolutely honest with you, my view is that these guys are sportsmen who play outside. If they get a bit of sun in their eyes that's part of the game.” “It's an outdoor sport and they've got to toughen up… It's all a bit weird to me,” said the unsympathetic mayor. To be clear, the mayor was not targeting the Indian cricketers in particular. The decision to pause the game until sunset was that of both sides and Kane Williamson's silent agreement to the umpire's suggestion to delay the game was enough to prove the legitimacy of the issue. Clinical. #TeamIndia start off the series with a 8-wicket win against New Zealand in the 1st ODI. 1-0 ð®ð³ð®ð³ #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/P4lLKjoCvu — BCCI (@BCCI) January 23, 2019 The hold-up had little effect on the game as only one run and one over were reduced following the Duckworth-Lewis method. India won the game comfortably with eight wickets in hand while Mohammed Shami won the Man of the Match who scalded three wickets to become the fastest Indian to take 100 wickets in One Day Internationals.
  6. Anushka Sharma has mostly been associated with meaningful ad campaigns. Be it the Manyavar advertisements with her husband and Indian skipper Virat Kohli, or her long standing association with Pantene. We have also witnessed that Anushka has been very vocal about her stance on certain endorsements, and declining those that do not align with her personal ideologies. Be it adopting and openly promoting a vegan lifestyle or declining offers for fairness cream ads, Anushka has been selective about the brands she has associated herself with. Ever since Twitter has tormented the 'Zero' star with negative comments and trolled her for giving up on her said ethics. While some have called Anushka out on Twitter for promoting a brand that's responsible for numerous health risks amongst its consumers, others have simply come forward to share their disappointment with her. Here's what Twitter is saying: Won't this be surrogate advertising. 7. Recently, actor Ranveer Singh turned cupid for Sara and Kartik, after she confessed on 'Koffee With Karan 6' that she has a huge crush on Kartik Aaryan and wanted to date him. After Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan, looks like things are now brewing between Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal. View this post on Instagram The Diwali dazzle continues on the Koffee couch with the dashing duo of @katrinakaif & @varundvn! #KoffeeWithKaran #KoffeeWithVarun #KoffeeWithKatrina A post shared by Star World (@starworldindia) on Nov 8, 2018 at 2:16am PST Do you remember the time, when Katrina Kaif revealed on KWK that she wanted to work with Vicky Kaushal, as she felt the two would look good together? When Karan Johar told Vicky on the show, he pretended to faint in disbelief. But, during a recently held award show when he met Katrina, he made sure that he made good use of the opportunity and her previous confession. View this post on Instagram There's a bromance brewing next week on #KoffeeWithKaran with @ayushmannk and @vickykaushal09. #KoffeeWithVicky #KoffeeWithAyushmann A post shared by Star World (@starworldindia) on Dec 9, 2018 at 9:25am PST Vicky asks Katrina when the two were onstage, "Why don't you find a nice boy like Vicky Kaushal and get married to him?" He further explained, "The season of weddings is on, so I thought, you too would want to do the same and so I thought I ought to ask you." Katrina, pretending that she didn't get his point, asks him "What?" and to this Kaushal asks her, "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?" with the song playing in the background. Katrina couldn't help but blush and replied, "Himmat nahi hai (I don't have the courage)." Instagram But, that's not the best part. All of this was happening in front of Salman Khan and his priceless reaction that was caught on camera, has left the internet in splits. Check out his epic reaction here. View this post on Instagram ðð . . . #instabolly #bollyinsta A post shared by Bollywoodð725kð (@bollylnsta) on Jan 2, 2019 at 5:07am PST So, can we say that this year might be owned by 'ViKat'? On the work front, Vicky Kaushal is gearing up for his next movie, 'Uri' which is based on Indian Army's surgical strikes. Katrina and Salman are busy shooting for 'Bharat'. Karan Johar and the sixth season of his show 'Koffee With Karan' should take immense pride in turning matchmaker for Bollywood celebrities. Karan's rapid fire questions not only compelled celebrities to be at their candid best, but also helped break the ice between the younger crop of actors.
  8. The latest season of 'Koffee With Karan' has seen some really fun celebrity pairings on the show, and the latest episode of Season 6 saw another such quirky pair of guests on the show. The episode which was aired last evening, saw Katrina Kaif and Varun Dhawan sharing the couch, and surely, the episode did live up to all the juicy scoops the promos promised. Amongst other things in the episode, such as Varun's 'I hate Katrina Club' and 'whether Katrina should marry Salman Khan', something else caught the viewers' attention. View this post on Instagram A post shared by koffee_with_karan_season_6fc (@koffee_with_karan_season_6fc) on Nov 10, 2018 at 7:48am PST With Tinseltown abuzz with the upcoming weddings of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh as well as Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas', the latest episode saw Katrina Kaif admitting the fact that she's super excited about both the weddings, even though, as Karan rightly pointed out during the conversation that, she hasn't been invited to either of the weddings. Yes, very few other Bollywood celebs have been invited to the main event in either of the two weddings this season, but Katrina went ahead and admitted that “ "I'm really excited about all these weddings. I want to wear nice clothes and go to attend." © Star World She also added that, "I might not be invited for any but that's a separate thing. But in my mind, I'm looking forward to an invitation." Which only proves that her excitement is for real, and she is looking forward to some of Bollywood's key players tying the knot this year, whether or not she's there to witness it. The playful banter coming from Katrina is very much like her. Speaking her mind and letting the world know that invitation or not, best wishes and positivity weigh much more during such important moments in a couple's life.
  9. First Allahabad and now Faizabad, looks like there's a wave of 'renaming' going on in Uttar Pradesh right now. While his announcement was met with thunderous applause, people on Twitter seemed to be divided about the second renaming in the state. While a lot of them are applauding the CM for this change, others are questioning whether renaming places is the only thing he does! Here are some of the reactions: Ok...another one now from Ajay Singh Bisht ( Naam Parivartan wale ) ... Faizabad will be known as AYODHYA from now onward . Utter stupidity technically . Faizabad is a district while Ayodhya has been a small town in it . Can we not name whole India as Ayodhya with this logic ? — Kishlaysharma (@Kishlaysharma) November 6, 2018 There's some support. 10. Not too long ago, an Indian sportsperson made an emotional appeal when barely 2000 people showed up to watch him and his team play against Chinese Taipei (which India won by 5-0). Yes, you guessed it right! We're talking about captain Sunil Chhetri, who urged his fans to come and see the match and said, "Abuse us, criticise us but please come to watch the Indian national team play." © Twitter People were so moved by his appeal that the subsequent matches against Kenya and New Zealand were sold out. At times fans' support is all that our sportspersons need to boost their morale and we've already seen the amount of difference fans can make in the lives of their favourite players. Fast forward to the present time and another captain has now urged his fans to never give up on him and his team. We're talking about Indian skipper Virat Kohli who posted an emotional message on social media, after the Indian Cricket team lost against England second time in a row, in the ongoing Test series at Lord's. England won by an innings and 159 runs. Reportedly, it was the first innings defeat since the Oval Test (2014) and the first-ever innings defeat under Kohli's Test captaincy. © Reuters Victory or loss is part and parcel of every sport and owning up to it and taking a lesson from it is one of the hardest things to do and possibly the best way to go about the defeat. And Virat Kohli who is known for unabashedly expressing himself, did not shy away from facing defeat and wrote this message, which will make every fan fall in love with him all over again. He wrote, "Sometimes we win and other times we learn. You never give up on us and we promise to never give up on you either. Onwards and upwards." While people are busy bashing Kohli and his strategies, let's not forget that Kohli is standing against the English players like a wall and putting a tough competition in front of them. India will be playing the third match on 18th August at Trent Bridge.
