  4. Cometh the hour cometh the man. This is exactly what happened when Chennai Super Kings played Delhi Capitals, the best team in the league phase of the tournament, in the Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. MS Dhoni, who had failed to deliver with the bat throughout the season, promoted himself up the order ahead of in-form Ravindra Jadeja and did what he does best -- finish the game in style. What it feels to be an MS Dhoni fan #VIVOIPL | @imVkohli | @msdhoni pic.twitter.com/4gHinYR8kz — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) October 10, 2021 When Dhoni came in to bat, CSK needed 24 off 11 deliveries. This move of promoting himself could have backfired but Dhoni knew exactly what he was doing. Over the next couple of overs, we got to see a vintage Dhoni instilling fear in the minds of opposition bowlers with his clean and powerful hitting. Once again Blessing on your TL@msdhoni pic.twitter.com/3IGVrTrfQv — தல ViNo MSD 5.0 (@KillerViNooo7) October 10, 2021 Turning back the clock, ‘Thala’, as he is famously called by the CSK fans, smashed four boundaries, including a hit over the fence, during his six-ball long cameo and guided his side home with two balls to spare. Witnessing Dhoni finish the game after a long time brought back old memories and made everyone nostalgic, including Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli. Whenever we talk about the greatest finishers in white-ball cricket, Dhoni’s name is always in contention. However, he couldn’t make an impact throughout the league phase of the 14th edition of the tournament and people had started doubting his abilities and whether he still had it in him to finish off matches like he once used to. With this knock, Dhoni shut down all his critics and proved “no matter how old the lion is, he never forgets to hunt”. Taking to Twitter, Kohli hailed Dhoni as the “greatest finisher ever” in the game. His emotions described exactly what the whole of India felt when they witnessed Dhoni’s old self. Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight.@msdhoni — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) October 10, 2021 “Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight. @msdhoni,” Kohli tweeted. Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight.@msdhoni — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) October 10, 2021 “Wow what a match. My heart goes out to the young #DC team. Hard luck boys & all the best for the next game. Tonight belonged to #CSK. #Dhoni the finisher leading from the front, inspiring his players to give their best & keeping his cool at all times #DCvsCSK @IPL#Finisher,” Preity Zinta tweeted. What an absolute cracker of a game. So many memories come alive when you see MSD finish a game like that #Dhoni #DCvsCSK — Jay Shah (@JayShah) October 10, 2021Apart from expressing his raw emotions, Kohli’s tweet was also a tight slap to all those who speculated he was not happy with Dhoni becoming Team India’s mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The RCB and CSK fans might not see each other eye to eye but Kohli and Dhoni have always shared a great camaraderie and have immense respect for each other. View the full article
  5. Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra was always considered to be a top prospect for the Indian contingent to get a medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, the athlete was found in a state of panic ahead of the first throw in the final round when he could not find his spear. In an interview with The Times of India, Chopra revealed the story of what was happening on the ground just moments before he was supposed to make his first throw. © Reuters “I was searching for my javelin at the start of the final (in Olympics). I was not able to find it. Suddenly, I saw Arshad Nadeem was moving around with my javelin. Then I told him. ‘Bhai give this javelin to me, it is my javelin! I have to throw it’. He gave it back to me. That’s why you must have seen I took my first throw hurriedly,” Chopra told the publication. There’s video footage of the incident taking place during the Games as well. In the footage captured, Neeraj can be seen approaching his Pakistani rival with an extended hand to check out the javelin he was carrying. Upon inspecting, he could be seen taking it away from him and back to his set of spears. Neeraj would then go on to mount the spear over his right shoulder, jog towards the scratch line and toss it 87.03 meters far on his first attempt. Now, fans of the Indian athlete are wondering why would Nadeem even take Neeraj’s javelin, especially in the final, just moments before it was his turn to throw and what would have happened if Neeraj had not spotted him at the right time: Why did Arshad Nadeem take away Neeraj Chopra's javelin during the Olympics finals just before his throw? pic.twitter.com/qt27hitFV9 — Arun Pudur (@arunpudur) August 25, 2021So the real story is that Arshad Nadeem the Pakistani Javelin thrower walked away with Chopra's Javelin. So he had to confront him and get his Javelin back — Gabbbar (@GabbbarSingh) August 25, 2021Video clearly shows how Neeraj Chopra took back his Javelin from Nadeem just before his first attempt.. pic.twitter.com/0B6sZszZkV — Satyam Singh (@MyFreakyTweets) August 25, 2021Neeraj Chopra on Arshad nadeem, no wonder our liberals wanted nadeem to win because they always side with the corrupt ones! pic.twitter.com/swWJREdb4Q — अंकित जैन (@indiantweeter) August 25, 2021Looks like Arshad Nadeem did try hard to fulfil @ShayanAcharya’s dream of “doing a Javed Miandad” (defeating Neeraj Chopra). While Shayan was dreaming of Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra together on the podium, Nadeem was busy hiding Neeraj’s javelin. Pakistan The Hindu pic.twitter.com/TOOEwtkR2S — Varada Marathe (@Varada_M) August 25, 2021 Neeraj would go on to throw it 87.58 meters far in the second attempt, which would be the one to win the gold medal. With the win confirmed with the second throw, the third and final throw was all about celebrations. As soon as he threw the final javelin, he turned around, raised both his hands in the air, and ran towards his coaching team to enjoy the monumental occasion that he has earned for his country and himself. 6. Always being looked at as one of India’s brightest names to be making it to Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra had no doubt in his mind that he was going to go big or go home. After making it to the final round of men’s javelin throw, the man had his eyes set on the shiny gold medal. So when it was his turn to throw the spear as far as possible and get his shot at becoming India’s first and only to win a medal in the athletics field at the Olympics, he wanted to end it all with some extra jazz. Here’s the moment we will remember for eternity! #NeerajChopra’s winning throw that got him the Gold Medal at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. pic.twitter.com/ZSwc7U4Xwu — Filmfare (@filmfare) August 7, 2021 Taking his run up to get the moment, Chopra threw the javelin well behind the scratch line and after maintaining his balance and standing on his two feet, the 23 year old didn’t even look at where he had thrown it. He simply got up, dusted himself, raised both his hands towards the sky with a cold-blooded expression on his face, and walked back towards his team. He knew what needed to be done and he knew he'd done it. Goosebumps... An India test match going on & the way we were glued to our screens to cheer for Kamalpreet,Ravi ,Bajrang,Sindhu & #NeerajChopra today, this @Olympics marks a paradigm shift in interest towards other sports, in these few moments truly felt Cricket gaya tel lene. pic.twitter.com/LWjFf5UzX1 — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) August 7, 2021 Neeraj opened his day with a stunning 87.03m throw and managed to make it even better in the second attempt when his javelin struck at the 87.58m mark. With the third and fourth attempt not being counted, the final attempt for the Panipat-born saw him throw a 84.24. Chopra not only won the gold medal, he won it by defeating the World Rank Number 1, Germany’s Johannes Vetter, who finished 9th in the list. The silver and bronze medal of the event went to Jakub Vadlejch and Vítězslav Veselý, respectively. Both of whom come from the Czech Republic. Vadlejch's best throw of 86.67m, which earned him the silver medal came in his fifth attempt. While Veselý threw 85.44m to finish third. #WATCH | During a phone call, PM Narendra Modi congratulates javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who won #Gold medal at #TokyoOlympics today pic.twitter.com/rGwiTJmx4U — ANI (@ANI) August 7, 2021 After the event was over, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called him up directly and shared a few moments of joy with the young athlete. “Paanipat ne paani dikha diya,” he joked about Neeraj’s city and the two shared a laugh. 7. After a massive victory in Australia, the Indian cricket team is back in action and is preparing for the four-Test series against the touring England squad starting from February 5, 2021. Following a six-day quarantine period, the Men in Blue were at The Chepauk for a team practice session. The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a few pictures from the session on the field with their followers: Out and about at The Chepauk after 6 days of quarantine.#TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/mt7FShNFrb — BCCI (@BCCI) February 1, 2021 Most of the fans were glad to see cricketers like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin back with the squad after being ruled out of the Test series Down Under due to personal reasons or injuries. However, a certain section of online trolls could not let the opportunity to talk about the team’s practice jersey simply pass by. The design was not appreciated by the fans during the quadrennial tournament as well. Wondering where I had seen this outfit before. Just Remembered. Indianoil Petrol pump staff uniform.#BleedOrange #CWC2019 :-):-) https://t.co/YwJvQCOV3b — Sumanth Raman (@sumanthraman) June 29, 2019It looks like Petrol Pump guys https://t.co/OcLbDEm4G1 — Dhruv Rathee 🇮🇳 (@dhruv_rathee) June 29, 2019The designers who’d worked on the infamous World Cup jerseys said that they wanted the fans of the team to feel a sense of identity and got inspired by one of the other Team India kits which they used to wear during T20I matches back in the day. "Colour options were given to BCCI and they chose the colour combination that looked the best to them. The whole idea is to be different from blue as England also wears the same shade of blue as India," an ICC source had told ANI at the time of the tournament. "Also the design (orange) is taken from India's old T20 jersey which had orange in it. The designers who are sitting in the USA designed this jersey from something that already existed and not something completely new that fans don't identify with," the source had added. But the real trolling of the jerseys began when actual petrol pump employees started thanking Team India for representing them on the biggest platform of international cricket in viral videos. 8. The final day of the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia looked and felt like a battlefield for the Indian batsmen, especially Cheteshwar Pujara who suffered at least a dozen blows to his body while batting at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. With the mindset of winning the Gabba Test and snatching away the trophy from the hands of the touring Men in Blue, Josh Hazlewood and Co. were clearly in no mood to give our batsmen any breathing space. The ball after Pujara pulls away at the final second because of a butterfly, Hazlewood asks if his vision was still impaired. Caring stuff from the big quick pic.twitter.com/e48z1xd6dd — Nick Toovey (@OneTooves) January 19, 2021 Bouncers, beamers and bodylining their opponents, the Australian bowling attack, which is amongst the deadliest in the world, had Pujara fall on the ground in pain, stunned by hits to the head and fixing his broken helmet throughout his time on the pitch. TV commentators, digital journalists and fans from all over the world were in absolute shock as they watched Pujara endure all the hits and Hazlewood’s sledging under pressure and calmly defend one ball after another while holding the bat with just four fingers. Ah Pujara! How the HELL is he still standing??? #AUSvIND — Melinda Farrell (@melindafarrell) January 19, 2021 In an interview with Hindustan Times , Pujara revisited all the injuries from the day. “The first one hit me just below my shoulder. There was one on the ribs. And one more from [Josh] Hazlewood below the shoulder again. That's when it started hurting a bit more because it was the same place.” But the one which made the composed giant fall on his knees came after the 125th ball he faced. Ouch! Pujara rips his glove off after copping one flush on the glove! Live #AUSvIND: https://t.co/qvYTMSiZsl pic.twitter.com/xXLuC0jcEa — cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) January 19, 2021 “The most painful one was the ball that hit my finger, because I had already got hit on that finger during practice in Melbourne and had played the Sydney Test with that little bit of pain. I was a little concerned before the game started in Sydney, but things went really well. But the moment I got hit there again in Brisbane, I was in a lot of pain. I thought I had broken my finger.” Even then, the 33-year-old held his ground, scored a remarkable 56 off 211 agonising deliveries and made sure that Finisher Rishabh Pant was well set to drive the team to victory before he was finally trapped by ‘Man of the Series’ Pat Cummins on an LBW appeal in the 81st over. “If I'm a boxer, I want to see how much another player can punch me. Once he is done, that's when I want to start punching back. That is my game plan. You can punch me as long as you can. Then I'll show my punches. That is how I planned it,” said the Test veteran.
