Not too long ago, when the Indian cricket team was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2021 before even making it into the knockout stage, the world was after Hardik Pandya’s life for not being able to bowl his share of overs. Now, that doubt and hate towards the Indian all-rounder seem to be fading, especially with the kind of significant improvement and stability that Pandya has shown as a bowler in the first two matches of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. View this post on Instagram Just the fact that the Gujarat Titans skipper was able to complete his four-over quota in both the matches while looking healthy enough to bat and continue fielding on the ground, shows how much his back has improved since undergoing surgery to get rid of a career-threatening back injury. In GT’s most recent match against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals, Pandya was not only able to dismiss the opener Tim Seifert, but he also managed to clock a 141.1kmph delivery as the last ball of his spell, which is a magnificent achievement in itself, considering the fact that the medical staff of the Men in Blue were too afraid to even see him on the field a couple of months ago. Hardik Pandya's final ball of his spell clocked 141.4kmph. what a return with the ball by Hardik. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) April 2, 2022 Pandya has always been the number one choice for the Indian cricket team as an all-rounder. When healthy, he is compared to the legendary Kapil Dev’s talent and skillset. However, back when his bowling was aloof, a younger and promising Venkatesh Iyer was brought into the team with the hopes of filling in Pandya’s shoes. To be fair to the 27-year-old, his rise through the ranks while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders allowed him the confidence to deliver some good performances for the national team as well. Since debuting in 2021, Iyer has played 9 T20Is and 2 ODis while scoring 133 and 24 runs, respectively. He has also taken five international wickets in the shortest format of the game. View this post on Instagram Having said that, the selectors, BCCI officials and fans, in general, were always certain about the fact that Iyer’s journey with Team India will be a short one and once Pandya finds his health and mojo back, there were no two ways about his return to the squad, which only meant Iyer’s ouster. And when Pandya stuck a 141.1kmph bowl on Saturday, fans were convinced that the day of his return as one of the Men in Blue is closer than most had imagined. As a result, they have already started making farewell arrangements for Iyer. Who will sit outside? Deepak Chahar too played some very good knocks recently with ball & bat both. Lord thakur is already famous Sir Jadeja can't sit outside now Venky Iyer in trouble — Ankit Mehta (@Anki4uever) April 3, 2022Basis current form Hardik will easily reclaim his place back in both the white ball sides and give us a boost for the world cup. Venkatesh Iyer was a decent replacement but his bowling leaves a lot to be desired IMO. — Nishith Pandya (@nishith_pandya) April 3, 2022many people especially mi fans thought that hardik is gone and now venky iyer to replace him but thats where you are wrong baby. redemption of hardik pandya. — vk18king𓃵 (@Viratiansworld1) April 2, 2022It is also worth noting that Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans captain, has won both his IPL contests so far, first against KL Rahul’s Lucknow SuperGiants by five wickets and then against Delhi Capitals by 14 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batters held their nerves in a low-scoring thriller and registered their first win of the ongoing IPL 2022 . The Faf du Plessis-led side defeated two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets in a nail-biting encounter at the DY Patil Stadium. View this post on Instagram From bowling spells by Wanindu Hasarnga and Harshal Patel to Dinesh Karthik’s finishing skills, there were plenty of positives for the Bangalore-based franchise, who had failed to defend a mammoth 205-run total against Punjab Kings (PBKS) just a couple of days ago at the same venue. pic.twitter.com/oa1YHk995c — That-Cricket-Girl (@imswatib) March 30, 2022 For the majority of the match, the former Proteas skipper did a fanatic job, setting the right field and making right bowling changes at the right time. However, RCB’s one poor DRS call made the whole squad butt of jokes on the micro-blogging site. On the last ball of the 16th over, Harshal Patel, who had already picked up two wickets, was up against KKR’s number 11 Varun Chakaravarthy. In search of a third wicket, the 31-year-old medium pacer attempted a yorker which was successfully defended by the KKR batter, right from the middle of his bat. Harshal was convinced that the ball had hit the shoes first and looking at his strong appeal the RCB captain also didn’t think twice before going upstairs. The replay on the big screen indeed confirmed that Chakaravarthy’s boot was nowhere near the ball and the shot had come off right from the middle of the bat. View this post on Instagram The people were left in disbelief when du Plessis opted to challenge the on-field decision and they trolled him mercilessly on the micro-blogging site. Some described it as one of the worst reviews of all-time, while others joked that it was a side effect of du Plessis sharing the locker room with Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli, whose DRS record was not very encouraging. Come on,Quarantine him soon, otherwise it'll spread to everyone else in the team.#IPL2022 — Akash Kumar Jha (@Akashkumarjha14) March 30, 2022Blind review — Piyush Keshri (@_piyushkeshri) March 30, 2022Worst review in IPL History — Karthikeyan (@Iamkart38250566) March 31, 2022Sasta nasha karke review liya — CricEnthusiast (@CricEnthu1594) March 30, 2022 However, given RCB’s situation in the match not everyone was surprised that they went for the DRS. KKR were nine down and RCB had two reviews left in their account. That’s why the RCB leader didn’t ponder much and straightaway went for the DRS. Some even believed that it was a tactical move to kill time and avoid the slow over-rate penalty. Whatever the reason maybe, the decision sure allowed the fans to laugh at their expense. Australia and Pakistan are set to make changes in final XI in second Test that will begin from tomorrow -
The ICC Women's World Cup, which is now being held in New Zealand, has already produced a number of close encounters and terrific plays. Pakistan and South Africa are currently playing in the tournament's eighth match. While the game continues without many incidents, the spectators' attention has been drawn to an umpiring blunder during South Africa's innings. Seven balls were bowled in the 27th over of the Proteas’ innings, and it appears that few people noticed. Omaima Sohail of Pakistan bowled the over, which saw plenty of action, with Laura Wolvaardt slamming a boundary off the second ball. A 7 ball over (without any wides or no balls) was bowled at the 27th over between South Africa and Pakistan game at Women's World Cup. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 11, 2022 The umpire, however, declared Sune Luus LBW on what should have been the penultimate ball of the over. However, for the second time in the innings, the hitter overturned the decision. The umpire insisted on throwing one more delivery, which turned out to be the seventh ball of the over, while the over should already have ended one ball ago. It seems as if the umpire missed the count thanks to the DRS drama off the final delivery of the over. Women’s World Cup 2022 has already taken some nasty hits throughout the timeline. From the Indian broadcasters of the event not putting any effort in making exciting promos for the India-Pakistan clash to declaring the wrong team the winners due to scorecard miscalculations, there have been numerous sloppy incidences throughout the tournament that made the fans feel as if the International Cricket Council (ICC) aren’t themselves serious about women’s cricket. So when this umpire made the Pakistani side bowl a 7-ball over, fans were ready to bring the heat: Talk about womens cricket — LM7 (@Aditylm7) March 11, 2022 Bhai chote chote matches me aaisi choti choti galti hoti rehti ha — SuperHuman (@MkeetarP) March 11, 2022 It's Unfair, Umpire should be banned... — Simu (@be_simu) March 11, 2022 Yahi reh gaya tha bc — Mayank (@MayankD11625316) March 11, 2022 There are no penalties for umpires. They are spared on the count of human error. Sed — Prashant (@prashant7692) March 11, 2022 Women's cricket — Substitute Cricketer (Tipu) (@kurkureter) March 11, 2022 After losing the toss, South Africa managed to score a competitive total of 223 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. If Pakistan had held on to their four lost catches and three missed run-out attempts, the score would have been significantly lower. Laura Wolvaardt (75) and Sune Luus (62) were the innings' half-centurions, while Chloe Tryon (31) and Trisha Chetty (31) gave the innings with much-needed momentum. Ghulam Fatima and Fatima Sana bowled well for Pakistan, sharing six wickets evenly. They'll be kicking themselves for the dropped catches, as the team had South Africa battling at 120/5 after 32 overs. Nonetheless, they have held the opponents to a respectable total and would bet on themselves to beat it. Having said that, South Africa defended 207 runs in their first game of the tournament, and this game is expected to be competitive. View the full article
