Several NGOs, volunteers and individuals are coming forward to help the needy at this hour of the crisis. Itâs because of this compassion we can fight this pandemic and come out stronger than ever. In one such instance, an Indian-origin safari operator based in Kenya is feeding thousands of families there. © Reuters Pankaj Shah is spearheading this volunteer effort, and started the initiative after he was devastated to see people starving and struggling to sustain themselves amid the lockdown. âPeople were getting hungry and angry,â Shah told Reuters. They brought cheques or truckloads of food that could not be transported due to the cancellation of flights. Interestingly enough, the volunteers, who call themselves âTeam Pankajâ, have sent out 24,000 packages of food since March 22. Each hamper contains enough food to last a family of five people for two weeks. © Reuters "One old woman told us she hadnât eaten for days - her sons had stopped supplying her because they have no work," Shah told. Notably, this Indian-origin safari operator gets his inspiration for community service from his idol Mother Teresa whom he says he met decades ago in Nairobi. He is urging wealthy Kenyans to donate 4,000 Kenya shillings (Rs 2,890) for the food packages. Also, he pointed out that the amount is about the cost of two pizzas and a bottle of wine. "I just need half the rich people here to care enough to fund a hamper," he said. Two lorries full of food were sent for distribution in Deep Sea slum last week. Residents were given with orange tokens and had to get their fingers inked before getting the boxes and bags of vegetables. Pregnant women and those with babies were offered help by volunteers, said the news report. As of now there are around 246 coronavirus cases in Kenya and the death toll stands at 11. People in Italy right now are basically all living under quarantine after being affected by the deadly virus. Impossible is just a word and a man from Aurangabad proved it right. Recently, Niket Dalal, 38 years old, became the first visually impaired Indian to complete the Ironman triathlon. The triathlon consists of 1.9km of swimming, 90km of bicycling and 21.1km of the marathon that needs to be wrapped under eight hours. Niket Dalal along with his sighted ally completed the triathlon in 7 hours 44 minutes and also bagged the second position in their differently-abled category. The tedious race needs to be completed without taking any breaks in between. His sighted ally, Arham Shaikh, 27 years old and Niket trained hard for a long period of four months in order to improve their skills. The duo worked hard on their coordination and hereâs what netizens have to say about him. Data released by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) showed that worldwide temperatures last year were second only to 2016, in which temperatures were boosted 0.12°C by an exceptionally strong El Nino natural weather event. The average temperature in 2019 was only a few hundredths of a degree below the 2016 level. The last five years have been the hottest on record, and the period of 2010-2019 was the hottest decade since records began, C3S said. Did you know all of world's 15 hottest places are in Pakistan and India? Globally temperatures in 2019 were 0.6 Celsius warmer than the 1981-2010 average. Earth's temperature over the last five years was 1.1-1.2°C warmer than pre-industrial times. Last year was Europe's hottest ever. "2019 has been another exceptionally warm year, in fact the second warmest globally in our data set, with many of the individual months breaking records," said Carlo Buontempo, head of C3S. Also read: Heatwave hits Australia with hottest day on record 2019 was just 0.04°C cooler than 2016, which saw temperatures boosted by a once-in-a-century strength El Nino. 'Alarming signs'C3S also said that atmospheric carbon concentrations continued to rise in 2019, reaching their highest levels on record. Earlier this month, the European Commission (EC) Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) shared a "dramatic picture" and urged for action, saying "#ClimateCrisis & #NatureCrisis impact all of us". Separately, the EC Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) had said scientists around the world had repeatedly sounded the alarms on climate crisis and biodiversity loss. It said "to restore, preserve and protect #OurPlanet" was the "focus for 2020". The United Nations said last year that man-made greenhouse gas emissions needed to tumble 7.6 percent each year to 2030 in order to limit temperature rises to 1.5°C. Current pledges by countries to cut their emissions put Earth on a path of several degrees warming by the end of the century. "The past five years have been the warmest on record; the last decade has been the warmest on record," said Copernicus director Jean-Noel Thepaut. "These are unquestionably alarming signs." Ryan Kaji, an eight-year-old YouTuber, has become the highest paid creator on the platform in 2019. According to Forbes magazine, the kid has earned $26 million on his YouTube channel "'Ryan's World' during the current year. The parents of Ryan has faced criticism for making the kid what critics say do "unconstructive stuff" in life. The earnings of the YouTube star has now come as a shock for both the critics and the fans. Ryan Guan aka Ryan Kaji's was also named as YouTube's highest earner in 2018, with $22 million, according to the magazine. "Ryan's World", the channel that was first launched by his parents in 2015, has now surpassed 23 million subscribers on YouTube. Several videos of Ryan unboxing toys and other things became popular shortly after it was launched. The channel has received almost 35 billion views since its creation in 2015. -

It is the beginning of a new era for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an era of presidency after 33 months of being led and administered by the Supreme Court-backed Committee of Administrators (CoA). The former captain of the Indian cricket team and a former member of the CoA, Sourav Ganguly is set to assume his position as the President of the Indian cricket board, today. His appointment as the most important official in all of Indian cricket came as a surprise to the entire nation especially when he was unanimously elected as the President during an “informal meeting”, a day ahead of the deadline. Nonetheless, Ganguly at the helm of things for Indian cricket is good for both domestic and international cricket as he brings two very important aspects to the table; youth (he is 47 years old) and the independent attitude to make bold decisions. Both of these were lacking in the organisation for a really long period of time. With the transfer of power finally taking place today, here is a list of things Ganguly must do as the BCCI President: 1. Day-Night Test Matches © Twitter Some of the orthodox fans of the game have shown discontent towards the idea of having day-night Test matches for a number of reasons; however, the fact of the matter is that the pink-ball format is a solution to the loss of interest the Test cricket is experiencing lately. Considered to be more of a broadcasting game, the day-night matches will give the audience the opportunity to sit back and watch the game in peace at the end of a busy day and will be a lot more aesthetically pleasing just like Twenty20 cricket. Personally, Ganguly is in favour of this change and has called it “inevitable”. 2. Restructure The 'Cooling-Off' Period © Reuters The idea of the 'cooling-off' period in the BCCI is healthy and in favour of the organisation. Making a BCCI official take some time off from their position at the Board would prevent the possibility of the organisation becoming a particular person's family business. However, the execution of this idea needs to be considered. According to the amendments made by the Supreme Court in 2018, any person who holds an office with the Indian cricket board or its state-level subsidiaries or both for two consecutive terms (for six consecutive years) must go on a 'cooling-off' period of three years before contesting for another spot. Six years of being in office practically goes against the very idea of letting one person hold an office for too long. It enables them to place a system so rigid that changing it with the evolving needs of time becomes almost impossible. Conversely, a three-year time-off from the organisation can lead to loss of momentum for an official who is trying to bring about a change in the organisation for good. Ganguly is also going to fall prey to this same issue because of which the former skipper is allowed to be the BCCI President just until July 2020. 3. Revamping 'Conflict Of Interest' © Twitter The so called “conflict of interest” in its current model is one of the most confusing and hypocritical “provisions” introduced under the administration of the CoA that has caused major loss of services to the players and veterans in the past. The Vinod Rai-led committee itself appointed a particular individual as the ethics officer and ombudsman, violating the essence of 'conflict of interest'. Also, one of the members continued to partake in CoA activities despite being over 70 years of age. Ideally speaking, an incident or an event should not be considered to be a conflict unless it causes some sort of danger or harm to another party. As suggested by The Hindu's Suresh Menon, the addition of the phrase “material difference” should be included in the rules to further clarify what falls under the ambit of 'conflict of interest'. 4. Making First Class Cricket More Valuable © Twitter Evidently, the first and the biggest concern that Ganguly said he would address was to look after first class cricket in the country. While Ranji Trophy players earn around Rs. 35,000 per day of the match and get provisions like free flight tickets and five-star hotel stays, it still feels like more of an audition for the Indian Premier League and that's about it. Additionally, the life of a domestic cricketer in India isn't as rosy as it sounds. While the top-tier players earn a fortune with the top-salary annual contract of Rs. 7 crore from the BCCI and IPL contracts worth up to Rs. 17 crore, it is the rest of the players, about 1,000 of them who work on a daily-wage basis with no financial security. “My first priority will be to look after first class cricketers. I had requested to the CoA and they have not listened. Ranji Trophy cricket will be the focus. To take care of cricketers' financial interest," the cricketer had said.

"A promise made done... the farmers from Bihar that had outstanding loans, picked 2,100 of them and paid off their amount with a OTS (One Time Settlement) with the bank...called some of them over to Janak and personally gave it to them at the hands of Shweta and Abhishek," he mentioned on his blog. © Twitter © Twitter Last year, he helped over a thousand farmers in UP and cleared off their loans.
