ADMIN posted a blog entry in FDF Online News25-year-old Wang Shangkun will never forget the fateful year of 2011 when he took a life-altering decision that would leave him bedridden within the next eight years. When Shangkun was 17-years-old, he decided to sell his kidney in order to get his hands on the latest iPhone that was launched in the market. He hawked his kidney in the black market for $4,500 AUD (Rs. 2,29,357.89) and used this amount to purchase two Apple gizmos, an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. At that time, Shangkun had reportedly said, “Why do I need a second kidney?” One is enough." © Asiawire,Australscope However, such is the irony of life, that today even his remaining kidney is failing him and Shangkun might be looking at a life tied to his bed. He was recently diagnosed with renal deficiency and has to undergo daily dialysis to function, since his remaining kidney can't work efficiently to clear his blood of toxins. Back in the day, when Shangkun had wanted to get his hands on the gadgets, the Anhui province resident of China didn't have enough money to afford the high-end products. However, it was in an online chat room that a possible opportunity presented itself. Shangkun was approached by an organ harvester in an online chat room who assured that selling one of his kidneys could fetch Shangkun 20,000 Yuan. © Asiawire,Australscope In no time afterwards, Shangkun underwent illegal surgery and finally got himself the Apple products he had been lusting after. However, it was his mother who thought something was fishy when she found him in possession of such expensive gadgets and made him confess. In the following months, Shangkun developed an infection in his remaining kidney, and ultimately suffered organ failure. As of today, his condition is so severe that he is in need of daily dialysis and has been left bedridden. Doctors have also suggested that he might need a kidney transplant of his own to get better. Talk about irony.
