  3. Zerodha co-founder and CEO, Nithin Kamath has come in the line of fire after he revealed that his company was launching a "fun wellness programme" that supposedly encouraged employees to improve their fitness levels. As part of the program, staff members were promised rewards for losing weight. A fitness enthusiast himself, Kamath had taken to Twitter to announce that Zerodha employees with a BMI under 25 would receive an additional bonus of half a month’s pay. The tweet read, “We are running a fun health program at @zerodhaonline. Anyone on our team with BMI <25 gets half a month's salary as a bonus. The avg BMI of our team is 25.3 & if we can get to <24 by Aug, everyone gets another ½ month as a bonus. It'd be fun to compete with other companies” We are running a fun health program at @zerodhaonline. Anyone on our team with BMI <25 gets half a month's salary as bonus. The avg BMI of our team is 25.3 & if we can get to <24 by Aug, everyone gets another ½ month as a bonus. It'd be fun to compete with other companies 1/3 — Nithin Kamath (@Nithin0dha) April 7, 2022 According to the CEO, the average BMI of Zerodha’s staff is 25.3, and he challenged them to bring it under 24 by August in order for the employees to reap the promised benefits. The initiative was intended to be a part of the ‘World Health Day’, which was on April 7. Kamath said in his tweet, “The lowest average BMI or the largest change in average BMI wins. The winner chooses a charity everyone else contributes to. Maybe a health tech company can run the initiative. If you want to do this at your company, do post in the comments. Happy world health day.” PS: I know BMI isn’t the best measure to track health & fitness, but it is the easiest way to get started. With health & most other things in life, the most important bit is to get started. Btw, walking 10,000 steps daily is a great start if you've been wanting to get healthy 3/3 — Nithin Kamath (@Nithin0dha) April 7, 2022 He did issue a clarification regarding the parameters of the program in a subsequent tweet, “PS: I know BMI isn’t the best measure to track health & fitness, but it is the easiest way to get started. With health & most other things in life, the most important bit is to get started. Btw, walking 10,000 steps daily is a great start if you've been wanting to get healthy.” However, it seems as if Nithin Kamath may have missed the mark with this initiative, as the internet’s fury unfolds upon him. On the micro-blogging site, this user tweeted, “Wow rewarding people for being skinny is not the type of fatphobia I thought I'd wake up to but not surprised”. But another Twitter user contested that claim, stating, “There's no phobia here. Stop whining and start getting healthy. I'm also trying to lose weight.” There's no phobia here. Stop whining and start getting healthy. I'm also trying to lose weight. — Eddie (@pussymonious) April 8, 2022 This commenter felt Zerodha’s initiative to be problematic, as they wrote, “This is serious discrimination and body shaming. There is nothing 'fun' about your program. Why should my pay or a bonus be linked to my body type? The only thing relevant is my work.” Their opinion was met with an almost immediate retort from another Twitter user, who said, “All work and no play makes one a dull guy/girl..Ever heard of work-life balance? If the employer cares about the quality of life his fellow employees, what’s wrong with it?” This is serious discrimination and body shaming. There is nothing 'fun' about your program. Why should my pay or a bonus be linked to my body type? The only thing relevant is my work. — Divyaroop Bhatnagar (@debubhatnagar) April 8, 2022 Amidst the chaos, there seemed to be one particular user who tried to explain to Zerodha’s founder, the error of his ways. She said, “Hey Nithin! I really appreciate the effort of incentivising and gamifying health for employees. But the same blanket goal for everyone can be a problematic strategy since it, at a lowest risk level, can make people associate their worth with weight or size.” She continued the thought in a linked tweet, “And at the worst, can even lead to eating disorders or mental health issues. I'm a corporate wellness coach working extensively on health at every size. I could help with better goal setting to be more inclusive and less problematic goals.” Whatever be the intention, it seems like Kamath and Zerodha would face some trouble digging themselves out of this faux pas. 4. Prithvi Shaw was in the news even before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as multiple media reports stated that he had failed the yoyo test at the National Cricket Academy. While we don't know whether he failed the test or not, it had little impact on his inclusion in the Delhi Capitals team for the ongoing tournament, as he was not a centrally contracted player by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and hence was available for selection even if he hadn't passed the fitness test. Immediately after the news went viral that Shaw had failed the test, the opening batter posted a message on his Instagram story. He urged people not to judge anyone without knowing the whole situation. Prithvi Shaw has failed in the Yo-Yo Test but he is allowed to play in IPL as he is not considered in any formats right now. (Source - PTI) — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) March 16, 2022 “Please don’t judge me, when you don’t know my situation, U are creating your own Karma,” read one of Shaw’s Instagram stories. However, the explosive batter left all this behind him when he took the field in Delhi Capitals' season opener against Mumbai Indians. Shaw came out to open the innings with Tim Seifert but after a quick start, he saw three wickets fall in just five deliveries at the other end. The 22-year-old kept going and hit two sixes and four boundaries to keep his side in the contest. © Twitter Delhi Capitals Shaw did not have the best of outings in the Ranji Trophy, where he scored 107 runs in four outings for Mumbai. But he got his mojo back as his handy cameo helped Delhi to chase down the 178-run target with 10 balls to spare. Witnessing Shaw's return to form, a former member of Delhi Capitals' coaching staff Mohammad Kaif recalled one of the most bizarre rituals that you will hear a batter following to get his rhythm back. .@MohammadKaif reveals a secret ritual followed by Prithvi Shaw during Kaif's time at Delhi Capitals as their assistant coach from 2019 to 2021#IPL2022 #PrithviShaw pic.twitter.com/Q0saOo1Lji — Sportskeeda (@Sportskeeda) March 27, 2022 "I was with the Delhi Capitals for three years and got to spend a lot of time with Prithvi Shaw. He had this ritual where, before the match, I used to hold a new ball with the seam and throw it underarm towards him, below his knee. He would keep knocking it back to me," Kaif told Sportskeeda. "One day, when I was having tea, a player came in and told me that Shaw was waiting for me outside. I ran outside and asked him what happened. So he told me, ‘please bowl underarm to me, I am not getting runs. I want to start this ritual again’," he added. Well, we have heard multiple stories of players being superstitious including the likes of Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan admitting to following a set pattern before every game but what Shaw does whenever he is short of runs has to be one of the most bizarre rituals ever in cricket. But if it works for him, the current Delhi Capitals support staff will be happily giving throw downs to their opening batter to keep him in good mental space before every game. View the full article

  6. There is a throwback video interview of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from the mid-’00s that has surfaced online. In the video, the former Miss World has proved why is an absolute queen when it comes to sharp retorts. In the clip, which is of around one minute in length, a journalist can be seen attempting to get controversial answers from Aishwarya as he first asks her about her equation with Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. To which Aishwarya responds, “You enjoy all this drama”. © Instagram/Aishwarya Rai Bachchan He further asks the actress about the films where she was replaced. Like a boss lady, Aishwarya reminds the journalist that the producer apologised to her after this and the media was kept in the loop about it by her team. So, he knows about it already. He then asked her about the rumours if she is the next Bond girl. Aishwarya further bashed him saying the media is already aware of it for over a year and a half. Not being able to get any controversial answer from Aishwarya, the journalist finally asks her about the “latest sunshine” in her life, a pet dog. © Instagram/Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Rolling her eyes, Aishwarya stated that the dog has been with her for over two years now. So, it’s not that he is the latest sunshine in her life. The journo then interrupts asking if the dog was given to her by Vivek Oberoi. Aishwarya then gives it back to him by saying, “Why don’t you just wait for an autobiography…” Take a look a look at the video below: View this post on Instagram Looking at the video, it is quite clear that the guy asking the question didn’t do his homework and was only fishing for controversial answers. However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan proved with her responses why she is the boss lady. Reacting to the video, one user commented, “Yaar ye kitni awesome hai”. Another wrote, “Jaya ji is proud of her 'ye koi jagah hai ye baat poochne ki, nahi aap bataiye'.” One user wrote, “Why don’t you just wait for an autobiography is FKEKXKSKDJJDJCJSSJZJ”. There were others who wrote, “Absolute Queen”, “Bow down to QUEEN”, “If Queen had a face” and “What a queen!!” Take a look at some of the responses below: © Instagram/notwhyral © Instagram/notwhyral © Instagram/notwhyral On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Fanney Khan in 2018. 7. After two days of rigorous bidding activities, a total of 204 players were bought by 10 IPL teams for a whopping sum of over Rs 551 crore. The top three most expensive players were all Indians. Mumbai Indians broke the bank and spent Rs 15.25 Cr to re-sign wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, making him the most expensive Indian in the IPL auction history. View this post on Instagram The second most expensive purchase in the auction was done by defending champions Chennai Super Kings who brought home their star fast bowler Deepak Chahar for a staggering sum of Rs 14 Cr. The next most expensive player was Shreyas Iyer who was bought by two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 Cr. View this post on Instagram These three capped Indian players went for a crazy amount of money but there was hardly anyone who had any complaints with their acquisition. In fact, many described Iyer’s acquisition as a steal. That’s precisely because before the auction began, most experts had predicted three players to attract huge interest from most teams due to their specific skill sets. All of them are proven match-winners and that’s why team owners didn’t hesitate before going all out to sign them. View this post on Instagram While their huge paychecks were on the expected lines, there were several other players who managed to attract huge bids despite performing poorly over the years in the league. These were the cricketers whose signings proved that no matter how much time team owners spend preparing for the auctions, most of them get swayed by emotions while sitting on the auction table and end up paying too much for a player. View this post on Instagram Here we take a look at five such players whose signings proved that the auction was dictated by emotions and not cricketing logic: Abhishek Sharma View this post on Instagram The young all-rounder who had a base price of Rs 20 lakh was signed by his old franchise SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 6.50 Crore. He has been part of the IPL since 2014 but has only scored 521 runs thus far in 48 matches, with just one fifty to his name. He is known for his power-hitting but his bowling has been more noteworthy than his batting. Despite all that, he still managed a bid of Rs 9 Cr from Gujarat Titans. 9. In cricket, one of the unluckiest ways to be dismissed is a runout. It usually is a result of miscommunication between the striker and non-striker and in some cases, a brilliant effort by a fielder can lead to a batter being run out. Over the years, we have seen several run-outs and while some of them have been spectacular some have been sheer comical. West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, considered one of the most dangerous players in T20 cricket, became the latest entrant in the list of batsmen who have been part of bizarre run-outs. Azhar Ali is enjoying run out with Asad Shafiq and 9 others.#PAKvAUS #2ndTest pic.twitter.com/3kQZIXPYzn — M. Haseeb Qureshi (@iHaseebQureshi) October 19, 2018 Here, we will take a look at some of the most bizarre scenes on a cricket field that led to a batsman being run out: 1. Andre Rusell The West Indies all-rounder was involved in, what many are claiming to be, the most freakish run-out in the history of the game. Russell was representing the Minister Group Dhaka in Bangladesh Premier League, playing against Khulna Tigers. In the 15th over of the innings, Russell played the ball on the off-side and called his partner Mahmudullah for a single. Mahedi Hasan, stationed at short third man, threw the ball at the striker's end but Mahmudullah was safe. WHAT A BIZARRE RUN OUT! Watch the #BPL2022 match live on #FanCode https://t.co/wPDmICv8cM#BPLonFanCode pic.twitter.com/O43gKKfLSi — FanCode (@FanCode) January 21, 2022 However, the ball ricocheted off the stumps at the keeper's end and hit the other set of stumps at the non-striker's end, resulting in Russell's dismissal. The on-field umpire, much like others, was confused by the turn of events and sent the decision to the TV umpire who found Russell short of his crease and the batter was given out. 2. Azhar AliIf we are talking about weird dismissals, it would be criminal to not talk about a Pakistani batter. Pakistan’s Azhar Ali features in this list. You might have seen two batters stranded at the same end on many occasions but have you ever seen two players chatting in the middle of the pitch and getting run-out? That was the case with Azhar Ali during a Test against Australia in 2018. Ali had got a thick outside edge and he thought the ball had hit the boundary cushions and started to have a chat with his partner Asad Shafiq. However, the ball had stopped just before the boundary rope and Mitchell Starc was alert enough to send the ball to Tim Paine who whipped the bails off and sent Azhar Ali packing. After being run-out, Azhar Ali had a laugh about the whole incident and said his kids will have a laugh about it for years. 3. Adam ZampaAustralia leg-spinner Adam Zampa played a pivotal role in helping the Aussies lift the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time last year in the United Arab Emirates. Zampa, however, was involved in one of the most bizarre run-outs that was caught on camera and it is something he would not want to relive. Dwayne Bravo had smashed a full toss straight down the ground, the ball hit non-striker’s bat and went straight onto the nose of Zampa before going on to hit the stumps. The end result was a bleeding nose for the bowler and Peter Nevill’s long walk back to the pavilion. 4. Inzamam-ul-Haq Former Pakistan captain was a prolific run-scorer for his country and the whole cricketing fraternity were aware of his batting prowess. However, as good as a batter he was, his running between the wickets was more often than not was comical, to say the least. © Reuters The ex-Pakistan skipper was batting on 109 when he defended a ball straight back to Steve Harmison. The England pacer, in his follow-through, fielded the ball and threw the stumps down at the striker’s end. Inzamam’s momentum after playing the defensive shot had taken him out of the crease and after checking with the TV umpires, he was given out. 5. Alastair CookThe former England skipper was known to put a price on his wicket and once he used to get his eye in, he was a hard nut to crack. Cook was barely involved in run-out during his illustrious career. However, that was not the case when he was batting against India in Kolkata back in 2012. Kevin Pietersen had flicked a Zaheer Khan delivery straight to Virat Kohli at short square leg and Kohli, sensing a run-out opportunity, threw the ball at the non-striker’s end. Cook was outside his crease and took evasive action to avoid getting in the line of the throw, but the ball went crashing onto the stumps and the England skipper missed his double ton by 10 runs. 10. You know how most of the time, Bollywood takes inspiration from real-life incidents and makes big blockbuster movies out of it? Now imagine the opposite happening, except inspiration gets drawn not from the feel-good and motivational movies but from the twisted old Bollywood movies that left people wondering what just happened. Wife swapping racket operating on social media busted in Kerala. Till now 7 arrested Many professionals, including doctors & lawyers, were part of social media groups & they operated through fake identities. Some groups had 5000 members Some women were forced by their husbands — Anshul Saxena (@AskAnshul) January 10, 2022 We are talking about the hit movie Ajnabee starring Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol that got famous for two things - Bipasha Basu’s horrific dance on the piano and the concept of ‘wife swapping’ that gets introduced by Akshay Kumar in a gesture that went on to become iconic. © DNA India Turns out, something similar has transpired in real life as a wife-swapping racket has genuinely been uncovered through the help of social media where police found almost 5000 couples involved in this racket. © iStock The arrest took place on Sunday in the Karukachal town of Kerala’s Kottayam district where the police arrested a man and took six others into custody for allegedly being part of a racket that included couples swapping partners for illegal sexual activities. Turns out, the racket was being operated through mediums like Facebook and Telegram. The entire matter came to the fore after a wife had lodged a complaint with the police against her husband, accusing him of presenting her to his inline friends for such activities. The police started digging into the matter and found a network operating out of Kottayam that dealt with wife-swapping. The statistics, as well as the details of this racket, have been downright horrifying. © iStock The 5000 people who were active on this network included several professionals, such as lawyers and doctors, who had joined using fake names and identities. The activities would include wife swapping, cuckolding, threesomes and unnatural ***, according to TOI. Some Bollywood movies leave a bad example. 11. Marriages in India just hit different! We often see videos of gender reveals and wedding functions in foreign countries, but we all know that the marriage game in India is just completely something else. Add this to the phenomenon that is Bollywood, you've got royal weddings that people just can't get enough of. This was just the case of the recent wedding of actors Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, who married each other in an extravagant fashion at the exotic hotel in Rajasthan. View this post on Instagram Now, with that done and dusted, we know that there is one Bollywood couple who is in line to get a similar reception as and when they do get married. Of course, we're talking about the one and only couple of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. View this post on Instagram Royalty really doesn't come much better than these two, with Ranbir the golden boy of the Kapoor Khaandaan, and Alia being the talented offspring of Bhatt Khaandaan. The union between the two lovebirds is something that people have been looking really forward to and it sure looks like another royal wedding that will go off in an exotic location if we are to follow history. However, as excited as we are and I'm sure Brahmastra stars Alia and Ranbir would be too, celebrity astrologer slash Numerologist Niraj Mancchanda has some bad news for everyone. According to him, the wedding between both will go ahead, but it will only work if, Alia is 'submissive' in the marriage. Very weird to hear something like that, to be honest. I mean, both the actors are absolutely exceptional in their fields and we doubt that there should be any such conditions from them when they get married. However, Niraj believes that it will be the one condition that will decide the fate of their marriage. Niraj, while speaking to Bollywood Life, said, “Ranbir and Alia will get married. As long as Alia is a pawn of RK, the marriage will work wonders.” Now, I doubt that Ranbir or Alia will be losing any sleep over this, as these beliefs are obviously not 100 per cent certain. On the other hand, Niraj also gave a take on marriage between stars Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora. © BCCL “If Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora get married then it will be a sudden decision taken by Arjun,” said Niraj. Wow! Let's hope that both the couples stay happy forever and prove this to be absolutely bogus! Source: Bollywood Life View the full article
