Shastri Pins CSK's Downfall On Huge Blunder & It's Not Dhoni's Captaincy

The second most successful franchise in IPL history, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a forgettable start to the 15th edition of the tournament. The Ravindra Jadeja-led side have lost their first four matches and are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. For a franchise that lifted the trophy less than just six months ago are now struggling to even open their account and it’s a hard pill to swallow for anyone. View this post on Instagram Forget victories, the Chennai-based outfit has even failed to challenge their opposition thus far in the tournament and given their form people are afraid that they might be heading towards their worst-ever finish in the history. After their fourth defeat in IPL 2022, former India head coach Ravi Shastri pointed out the biggest blunder the franchise made heading into the tournament and are now suffering because of that. View this post on Instagram Just two days before their opening clash, former CSK skipper MS Dhoni relinquished the position and handed over the leadership to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been part of their squad since 2012. Leading the side for the first time in his senior career, the Saurashtra all-rounder has looked under a lot of pressure which has affected his own individual performance, with both bat and ball. The former India all-rounder feels that letting go of a seasoned campaigner like Faf du Plessis was the biggest blunder the franchise made on the auction table and are now paying a heavy price for that. “I feel that someone like Jadeja, he should focus on his own game. If Chennai were to think back, they wouldn't have let go of Faf du Plessis,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo show T20 Time Out. The franchise didn’t bid as strongly for the former Proteas skipper as they did for Deepak Chahar and he was eventually picked by RCB for Rs 7 crore. View this post on Instagram Shastri couldn’t understand why the franchise didn’t break their bank for du Plessis if they knew Dhoni would step down from the role. The 59-year-old has no doubt that had CSK picked the Proteas star they wouldn’t have been in such a miserable state. “He (du Plessis) is a match-winner, he has won the IPL with Chennai, he has a lot of experience. If Dhoni was thinking of giving up the captaincy, then Faf should have been given the job, and Jadeja should have continued as a player. He would have played freely, without the pressure of captaincy. Things could have been different for Chennai then,” he added. View this post on Instagram What Shastri is saying is right but that alone has not caused CSK’s downfall. Even without du Plessis, they managed to assemble a strong group of players but they have all failed to perform as a unit. View the full article-

Rishabh Pant's choice to bowl Axar Patel, one of the top spinners in Delhi Capitals, for only two overs in the LSG chase at the Dy Patil Stadium on Thursday, when the fingers spinners were able to get a solid purchase despite the dew, astonished cricket pundits. After Lucknow Super Giants defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets to complete a hat-trick of victory in IPL 2022, Rishabh Pant's captaincy was questioned, again. Pant's choice to bowl Axar Patel, one of DC's top spinners, for only two overs in the LSG chase at the Dy Patil Stadium on Thursday, when the fingers spinners were able to get a solid purchase despite the dew, astonished cricket pundits. The chase got a bit close but Lucknow's Baby AB finished it off nicely It was a slow pitch and spinners from both sides cashed in. Lalit Yadav finished his quota but Axar Patel didn't due to match-ups. Rishabh Pant scored just 39 runs off 36 balls #LSGvDC | #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/55l1NaxG5t — Stat Doctor (@stat_doctor) April 7, 2022 Former Kolkata Knight Riders team director Joy Bhattacharjya believes that not bowling a left-arm spinner simply because a left-handed batsman is batting in the middle makes no sense, especially when the spinner is one of your finest bowlers. “I don't care how much form a left-hander like de Kock is in. You cannot have your best bowler Axar Patel bowl only two overs, I can't understand how this happened," he told Cricbuzz. Rishabh Pant missed a trick. He gave four overs to a part-timer Lalit Yadav. The wicket-taking option of his, Axar Patel, bowled only two overs.”said by Wasim jaffer — ~Hydra™ (@BestTroller49) April 8, 2022 Bhattacharjya said that the match between DC and LSG was a complete puzzle to see and compared it to an Andrei Tarkovsky film in which you are meant to comprehend after three and a half hours but end up even more perplexed. De Kock, the LSG opener, struck an outstanding 80 off 52 balls to lead his team to victory in the difficult 150-run chase. Pant decided not to bowl Axar Patel when de Kock was at the crease, based on the match-up idea. Pant is not captaincy material at all. Bowling 2 overs from Axar Patel is a crime when Lalit Yadav completes his 4 overs quota. And the batting approach is confusing; just 149 runs in 20 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Poor from Delhi Daredevils. #IPL20222 #DCvsLSG #RishabhPant — nitin hajare (@nitinhajare_) April 7, 2022 In the contest, Patel, the left-arm spinner, only bowled two overs. It did not take long for the Indian cricket fans to also jump on the bandwagon and start criticising Pant for his lack of experience as a captain, even though it was under his leadership that the Delhi squad managed to make it to the playoffs for two straight seasons. However, fans feel that now with Shreyas Iyer not in the team anymore, the 24-year old might be finding it overwhelming to lead a team from the front. One of the biggest names of sports journalism in India, Vikrant Gupta is having a tough lead up to the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on his own TV show where his guests and he himself have not been able to stop from making one major mistake after the other. Vikrant Gupta said Mumbai Indians haven't won IPL title yet pic.twitter.com/nIWNOAriT3 — iᴍ_Aʀʏᴀɴ18 (@crickohli18) March 23, 2022 In the middle of a conversation regarding the top-performing franchises in the Indian T20 league, Gupta wanted to talk about those sides that have never won a single title ever since the tournament’s inception in 2008. While the journalist did take the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, he also went on to say that Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians - the franchise with the most number of IPL championships (5 titles) - have also never won the trophy. Mumbai Indians fans and fans of the game, in general, were stunned by the lack of preparation that went into coming up with the discussion and were absolutely ruthless in letting Gupta have it: Bhai Vikrant Gupta marke baitha hai pic.twitter.com/WTbGx7chA9 — Vishal Deshmukh (@vishald1290) March 24, 2022MI Fans Like pic.twitter.com/4BjNHn0Aii — StarManjeet (@StarManjeet009) March 23, 2022 pic.twitter.com/E2efoXVFwA — Ganpat Teli (@gate11_) March 24, 2022Ha bhai kyonki @PunjabKingsIPL ne 5 baar jita hai — Rajjak khan (@Rajjak_official) March 24, 2022Earlier this week, yet another moment from his TV show went viral on social media in which all of his guests were talking about Gujarat’s cricketer and Saurashtra wicket-keeper batter, Sheldon Jackson as if he was an overseas player and that he will not be able to become a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ Playing XI if other international crickets like Sam Billings and Aaron Finch will also be included in the overseas-players quota. This is height of comedy! The so called cricket experts on #SportsTak are continuously calling Sheldon Jackson a foreign player. Shame! pic.twitter.com/aNTPEbh3xX — راغب रागीब (@dr_raghib) March 22, 2022 And even though Gupta wasn’t the one referring to Jackson as a non-Indian player the fact that he quickly picked up his phone and completely detached himself from the entire conversation had people worried that even Gupta may not know where Sheldon Jackson was from. The fans of the game also ended up giving him an earful for not intervening and clarifying to this panel of ‘cricket experts’ about Jackson’s origin in Bhavnagar, Gujarat and for not calling them out for assuming his ‘non-Indianness’ simply based on the way his name sounds. https://t.co/2x7VqqrfEC — Sheldon Jackson (@ShelJackson27) March 23, 2022 After the story spread like wildfire on Twitter, Jackson ended up retweeting a post shared by one of his fans who not only talks about all of his achievements as a domestic cricketer but also shared the screenshot of Google Maps in which Saurasthra can be seen. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle refute Queen valuable teaching with PR blunder -
Umpiring in cricket is a tough job, especially, when you are asked to predict the trajectory of the ball whenever there's an appeal for LBW. There are so many innovations that have been introduced in modern-day cricket to make life easier for umpires and eliminate howlers from the game. One such innovation was the Decision Review System (DRS) which was brought into the game to get rid of on-field umpire's mistakes. With DRS, players are now allowed to challenge an on-field call. If not for the DRS, Pakistan would have been robbed of a wicket in the ongoing second Test match against Australia at the National Stadium in Karachi. Umpire Ahsan Raza gave this out…#PAKvAUS pic.twitter.com/3I5MpDhCaZ — Nic Savage (@nic_savage1) March 14, 2022 After being on the field for almost 190 overs, Pakistan finally got a chance to bat after Australia declared their first innings at 556 for nine. In reply to the visitor's mammoth total, Pakistan's top order crumbled and they were reeling at 60 for four. Pat Cummins, bowling the 30th over, bowled a short of a length ball that came back in a bit and struck Mohammad Rizwan on the pads, who did not offer a shot. Australian players appealed and umpire Ahsan Raza gave the decision in favour of the bowling team. The blunder made by umpire Ahsan Raza on the field led to a flurry of reactions on social media, dominated by Indian cricket fans who mercilessly trolled the Pakistani official. The ICC Women's World Cup, which is now being held in New Zealand, has already produced a number of close encounters and terrific plays. Pakistan and South Africa are currently playing in the tournament's eighth match. While the game continues without many incidents, the spectators' attention has been drawn to an umpiring blunder during South Africa's innings. Seven balls were bowled in the 27th over of the Proteas’ innings, and it appears that few people noticed. Omaima Sohail of Pakistan bowled the over, which saw plenty of action, with Laura Wolvaardt slamming a boundary off the second ball. A 7 ball over (without any wides or no balls) was bowled at the 27th over between South Africa and Pakistan game at Women's World Cup. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 11, 2022 The umpire, however, declared Sune Luus LBW on what should have been the penultimate ball of the over. However, for the second time in the innings, the hitter overturned the decision. The umpire insisted on throwing one more delivery, which turned out to be the seventh ball of the over, while the over should already have ended one ball ago. It seems as if the umpire missed the count thanks to the DRS drama off the final delivery of the over. Women’s World Cup 2022 has already taken some nasty hits throughout the timeline. From the Indian broadcasters of the event not putting any effort in making exciting promos for the India-Pakistan clash to declaring the wrong team the winners due to scorecard miscalculations, there have been numerous sloppy incidences throughout the tournament that made the fans feel as if the International Cricket Council (ICC) aren’t themselves serious about women’s cricket. So when this umpire made the Pakistani side bowl a 7-ball over, fans were ready to bring the heat: Talk about womens cricket — LM7 (@Aditylm7) March 11, 2022 Bhai chote chote matches me aaisi choti choti galti hoti rehti ha — SuperHuman (@MkeetarP) March 11, 2022 It's Unfair, Umpire should be banned... — Simu (@be_simu) March 11, 2022 Yahi reh gaya tha bc — Mayank (@MayankD11625316) March 11, 2022 There are no penalties for umpires. Sed — Prashant (@prashant7692) March 11, 2022 Women's cricket — Substitute Cricketer (Tipu) (@kurkureter) March 11, 2022 After losing the toss, South Africa managed to score a competitive total of 223 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. If Pakistan had held on to their four lost catches and three missed run-out attempts, the score would have been significantly lower. Laura Wolvaardt (75) and Sune Luus (62) were the innings' half-centurions, while Chloe Tryon (31) and Trisha Chetty (31) gave the innings with much-needed momentum. Ghulam Fatima and Fatima Sana bowled well for Pakistan, sharing six wickets evenly. They'll be kicking themselves for the dropped catches, as the team had South Africa battling at 120/5 after 32 overs. Nonetheless, they have held the opponents to a respectable total and would bet on themselves to beat it. Having said that, South Africa defended 207 runs in their first game of the tournament, and this game is expected to be competitive. View the full article

All eyes were on India when they arrived in Australia for their much-anticipated tour. The two cricketing powerhouses colliding always makes up for a thrilling contest, but the turn of events in the three-match ODI series was far from what any fan would have expected. Losing two successive games by a decent margin, Team India was left with a lot to ponder over as the world no. 2 side was made to look mediocre majorly due to their own frailties. If the dreadful bowling display cut them a sorry figure, the fact that India looked miserable in the field further added to their woes. Oh dear... Virat Kohli drops a 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑 and is clipped on the head for good measure #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/heXL8sN9Ih — Cricket on BT Sport (@btsportcricket) December 4, 2020 Desperately seeking some redemption in the series, India did manage to bag a consolation win in the 3rd ODI. But, the poor fielding standards continued to follow India with Virat Kohli making an absolute mess of an easy catch in the 1st T20I. The Indian captain had dropped a sitter in the 7th over of Australia's chase as he failed to keep his eyes on the ball before spilling the chance to give D'Arcy Short a lifeline. Well, Short couldn't make the most of the extra life, adding a mere 16 runs before eventually returning to the pavilion, as Australia succumbed to a 11-run defeat. But, Kohli's misery in the field continued as he dropped another dolly in the 2nd T20I at Sydney. And, somehow, the Indian skipper still managed to have the last laugh. What a calamity! #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/2NeeTB4ixT — cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) December 6, 2020 During the 8th over of Australia's innings, Wade was looking dangerous before he scooped Washington Sundar's length delivery towards cover where Virat Kohli made a mockery of a sitter, spilling the catch on two attempts. But, such was Wade's luck that, rather than watching the Indian skipper drop a dolly, the Aussie captain conceded it to be his downfall and didn't bother to return to the crease. And, unlike Wade, Kohli had some match-awareness as he fired in a throw at the striker's end to help wicket-keeper KL Rahul catch the Australian short at the crease. For poor Wade, it was a classic case of staying optimistic and not giving up which halted his marauding innings. Needless to say, cricket fans, mostly Indians, couldn't help but poke fun at the Aussie skipper on social media. Queen Elizabeth sparks fury for upsetting Brits after major blunder

Queen Elizabeth bashed for making a major flaw -
India is well-known for its obsession with cricket over the years. And, when it comes to the biggest star the country has ever produced, Sachin Tendulkar is the name that quickly comes to mind. But, while Tendulkar surely remains a fan-favourite even after his retirement, there is little doubt over the legacy of MS Dhoni in Indian cricket. © Reuters The former Indian captain arguably remains one of the most popular and undeniably the most scrutinised cricketers in the country. Whether he's finishing the innings with a six or getting out for single-digit scores, taking DRS calls like a pro or staying mum over his retirement calls, no matter what Dhoni does, it seems that the Jharkhand cricketer just can't catch a break. © Reuters Often a victim of unfair expectations, Dhoni is witnessing the same story unfold, that followed him like a shadow throughout his international career, in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite beginning their campaign with a win, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have looked like a shadow of the three-time IPL champions fans have cherished over the years. © Twitter/@IPL In the eight matches they've played so far, the Dhoni-led CSK have lost as many as five matches with just three wins for their showing. Owing to the turn of events for CSK, Dhoni, as expected, continues to draw flak. He's been pinned down as a captain and batsman who's been lacking the intent to win. He has been slammed for making poor decisions on the field. But the scrutiny isn't just restricted to Dhoni. The fact that Dhoni's five-year-old daughter Ziva has attracted something as abhorrent as rape threats on social media, goes on to show just how obsessed cricket enthusiasts in India are with the same man who was cherished for over 15 years for his unmatched contribution to Indian cricket. But, like Dhoni, we, too, know that scrutiny will never stop chasing him - something that once again was on full display last night. For a team that had been on a slump, Chennai couldn't have done better than edging-past Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to eke out a much-needed 20-run win in Dubai. Chasing a total of 167 runs, Hyderabad, despite a brilliant Kane Williamson (57) fifty, could only manage to finish at 147/8 in 20 overs. But, Chennai's third win of the season was marred with a bit of controversy. FairPlay award goes to #CSK pic.twitter.com/ZiRUIaMCiu — (@Kourageous__) October 13, 2020 In the 19th over of Hyderabad's chase, Shardul Thakur was trying to keep the ball away from the batsman's reach by bowling wide off the stumps. The second ball of the over saw Shardul sticking to his plan of bowling wide outside the off-stump. The ball had pitched outside the line and on-field umpire Paul Reiffel was spreading his arms out to deem it wide when he suddenly changed his mind, perhaps after watching Dhoni and Shardul protest in anger. The turn of events, once again, brought Dhoni in the spotlight where fans have accused him of bullying Umpire Reiffel into changing his decision. But, is Dhoni really to be blamed here? Nah, we don't think so. Such a mockery of game, pathetic! Dhoni keeps bullying umpires and gets away with it. I have just lost count of it. Storming into ground whenever he wants and getting furious at umpires for calling the decisions, if no actions yet, joke is on Indian cricket. Shameful! — Rajguru (@rajgurusj123) October 13, 2020 For starters, Dhoni has an impeccable reputation in the cricketing world for being just and fair. For someone who enjoyed immense success at DRS calls, Dhoni neither appeals unnecessary, nor he's ever been seen sabotaging the spirit of the game. It is because of that Dhoni has earned respect in the cricketing world. And, that's probably why Umpire Reiffel changed his decision, thinking he might have erred. Even if that's the case, Dhoni, just like any player on the field, has every right to appeal, protest or express displeasure over the umpire's decision. And, in this case, the Chennai captain wasn't wrong in his actions. He can surely be reprimanded for dissent against the umpire's decision, but blaming him for Reiffel's change in decision is just absurd. Paul should have given that wide if he felt it was a wide. No other way about it. Cannot give it to anyone. No matter who they are — Nikhil (@CricCrazyNIKS) October 13, 2020 Now, that Dhoni is out of the picture, it's just Umpire Reiffel who is really responsible for the error. The 54-year-old is an experienced umpire who is currently a member of ICC's Elite Panel. There is no way that an umpire can or should succumb to the pressure created by the players on the field. No matter how animated players get in their appeal, you'd never see an umpire change their decision. And, in this case, Reiffel shouldn't have either. If #MSDhoni has to decide everything, then why umpires are standing there.... Ohh #MSDhoni be like umpiring bhi main kar leta hu, aap #Dream11 pe team banaao. This is not what we like to see... Player is telling umpire what to do...#BCCI #Dream11IPL pic.twitter.com/ibNBawSlkZ — Shivam Chauhan (@ShivamC57471811) October 14, 2020 This isn't the first time when Dhoni lost his cool over an umpiring decision. Last season, he stormed onto the field during a tense IPL game to contest an umpiring call. Owing to his actions, Dhoni was subsequently fined 50 per cent of his match fee. In this case, too, Dhoni may or may not attract a fine but his actions don't even matter solely because the umpires aren't supposed to be influenced by players on the field, no matter who they are. So, if anyone is to be blamed here for the bad decision, it is Umpire Reiffel, not Dhoni. View the full article

For a cricketer who led India to new heights in international cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni might have reached the twilight of his illustrious career, but his absence, amid an ongoing sabbatical, has clearly left a void in the national team. He may no longer be the finisher we once knew and even as his age is catching up with him, there is little doubt over his glovework behind the stumps. His unorthodox style of wicketkeeping, just like his batting, has allowed him to be labelled as one of the most effective and street-smart keepers in the world. So much so, that even as the Indian selectors seem to have moved on to grooming young Rishabh Pant as his possible successor behind the stumps, Dhoni continues to be missed on the field. During the second Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and Bangladesh, the absence of Dhoni behind the stumps was rued, not only by the Indian team but also by the cricket fans. During the sixth over of the Bangladesh innings at Rajkot, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Team India were denied a certain wicket thanks to over-excited Pant's stumping blunder. Chahal's brilliant delivery turned sharply from the middle-stump and completely deceived Bangladesh opener Liton Das, who found himself stranded outside the crease after coming down the pitch. #RishabhPant messes up !! ð¤¦ð»âï¸ð¤¦ð»âï¸ð¤¦ð»âï¸ pic.twitter.com/3rEVqnNG7Z — Nishant Barai (@barainishant) November 7, 2019 But, what was supposed to be an easy stumping, eventually turned into a no-ball as Pant collected the ball just before the stumps. The stumping was referred to the third umpire and the replays highlighted that Pant's gloves were not behind the stumps before he collected the ball and whipped the bails off. According to MCC's rule, 27.3 on wicketkeeping, the keeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker's end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler. Sadly, Pant needed a reminding of that rule - one that he eventually learnt the hard way, as Indian cricket fans took the youngster to task on social media. @RishabhPant17 #INDvBAN Audience waiting for Rishabh pant to do wicket keeping like Dhoni. pic.twitter.com/crS5sIFN2Y — Debasish (@DebaDBhaduri) November 8, 2019 Me after seeing Rishabh Pant keep'ng in #INDvBAN T20I Series.#IndvsBan pic.twitter.com/8juWK6HGww — Liberal_Indian ð®ð³ (@GopalCh28653657) November 8, 2019 Rishabh Pant's gloves are like subtitles in a pirated movie. After restricting the visitors to 153/6, Rohit played a captain's knock, a 43-ball 85, and was adequately supported by Shikhar Dhawan (31) and Shreyas Iyer (24) to help the hosts level the three-match series 1-1. Eyeing a series win, India and Bangladesh will now lock horns in the third and final T20I at the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium in Nagpur on 10th November. View the full article

Apple CEO Tim Cook was trending on social media yesterday after the US president Donald Trump referred to him incorrectly as "Tim Apple" during an American Policy Advisory Board meeting. Although Tim kept himself away from the whole fiasco, for the most part, he did end up changing his Twitter display name to include an Apple logo. His name on Twitter now reads 'Tim Apple' instead of 'Tim Cook'. Looks like the Apple CEO is embracing his new nickname. Well technically, Tim has just added an Apple computer emoji at the end of his name. And since it's not a Unicode-approved emoji, it'll only be visible on Apple devices. If you are looking at his profile on a Windows computer or an Android phone, you'll either see a blocked-out square or just a random symbol. © Twitter Here's the clip in case you missed it yesterday - Trump just called Apple CEO Tim Cook “Tim Apple” pic.twitter.com/gTHHtjWvc9 — Sean O'Kane (@sokane1) March 6, 2019 The clip has been watched over 10 million times and has over 200,000 favourites since it was posted on the micro-blogging site.

In a bizarre yet funny happenstance across the world, Nine Network cricket commentator Mark Nicholas is in the news for making an absolute fool of himself. While being on the panel for the third and final Test match between Pakistan and South Africa in Johannesburg, the English commentator mistook dwarves for children and went on about commenting on the way they were playing cricket, quite endearingly might I add. (c)Twitter The blunder was committed during the second day's play when South Africa was batting in the first innings. During the break, two dwarves were shown playing the game on the grass banks, where one was bowling to another who was using a miniature bat. (c)Twitter When the camera zoomed towards them playing, Nicholas got super excited and probably thought he's spied on a bowling prodigy in the making, as the dwarf who was bowling, was using a rather advanced technique, to send down some left-arm spinning. This is what he said: “Okay well, it's important to start young. Look at this … spin it. Oh, I like that!” Even though the camera was zoomed into the dwarves enjoying a mild game of cricket at the time, Nicholas couldn't figure who they were. He probably thought some very talented kids are bowling a decent delivery, with left-arm spin bowling! All this while, Nicholas's fellow commentator Kevin Pietersen was left in splits because Nicholas just couldn't figure the right from the wrong. One actually said, “Mark Nicholas puts his foot in it... they're dwarfs not babies,”. Well, yes, Nicholas, try and distinguish dwarfs from babies and if you can't maybe you need bifocal lenses to see things rather clearly?
