  1. You can use various adjectives to describe the amiable beauty that Sonakshi Sinh truly is, but nothing fits more aptly than the title of 'Dabangg' for Ms Sinha, who has steered clear of any negativity that the glam, but sometimes, harsh world of Bollywood might throw at a star. A blockbuster debut with the 'bhai' of the glam world himself, a career path that enabled her to don many hats with the choice of roles she took over the years, Sonakshi has come a long way and carved her own niche. © Rahul Jhangiani As she gears us for her big release 'Kalank', Sonakshi graced the first-ever digital cover of iDiva where she gave a quick master class on the A-Z of Bollywood and how she slams the door on any kind of negativity in her life like a boss. “I somehow mastered the art of blocking negativity early in my career. We are in the business where social media plays an important role in our lives and everyone has an opinion they are free to put out there. It is important to understand that with the bad, comes the good and it is always better to focus on the good. Social media has its advantages and disadvantages but, mostly, it gives me direct access to my fans, " she said. Sonakshi is known for being active on social media for all the right reasons where she pours love on her fans and also slams the haters with an equal amount of energy. With Bollywood turning into a factory of new star kids making their debut every year, Sonakshi stays unperturbed with the unending comparisons and she is in no competition with anyone out there. "I love doing what I do, and that keeps me going. I get to play exciting characters and meet new people while I'm at it. My biggest learning as an actor has been that you need to keep going. There will be ups and downs which is a part of your profession. The important thing is that you need to stay positive and keep your head on your shoulders and not let your enthusiasm for your work dim. I treat every film like my first film and that's why my work excites me”. © Rahul Jhangiani © Rahul Jhangiani As they say, you're known by the company you keep. For Sonakshi, her friendships are golden, just like her name. "My closest friends are not from the industry. Their behaviour towards me hasn't changed since I became an actor and that helps keep it real. There will always be competition, but that should only be a motivator and make you work harder on yourself and your craft." Trolls, unwanted pessimism and hate have no place in the world of Sonakshi Sinha who is Bollywood's 'asli Sona' and she knows exactly how to make things change her way, thanks to her own Midas touch.
  2. “Kuch bhi karne ka, lekin Jaikant Shikre ki ego ko hurt nahi karne ka.” For those of us who have sat through a viewing of 'Singham' at any point in time, can easily recall how efficiently Jaikant Shikhre aka Prakash Raj delivered this dialogue and packed it with enough spite and hatred to make the audience take him for the notorious gangster he was portraying on-screen. © Reliance Entertainment Prakash Raj seems to have taken it upon himself to redefine what it means to be a “villain” or “antagonist” in movies given the present scenario in Bollywood, where we have seen Hindi cinema grow leaps and bounds in recent times with films such as 'Badhai Ho', 'Andhadhun', 'Pad Man', 'Hitchki', 'October' and the likes making it big at the box office. The changing times have not only seen an evolved audience, but also a more well-rounded development of the modern day “villain” or grey character in filmmaking. Gone are the days of cult villains like Mogambo, Crime Master Gogo and Bad Man, who became popular in their time for the over the top notorious antics they pulled off, which was in keeping with the demands of the audience requirements. © Instagram The fool proof style-sheet of the time required screenwriters and filmmakers to present a villain who could evoke emotions of terror, fear and loathing from the audience. However, with the coming of “villains” such as the ones Prakash Raj has brought to life on-screen, the Bollywood villain has undergone a quick makeover. The neo-Bollywood villain is quite similar to the old-school Shakaal(s), but they come with a touch of realness that is precious to the audience who is trying to relate to the grey characters as much as the hero/heroine in the movie. And Prakash Raj wonderfully manages to balance that black and white in the characters he portrays. © Eros International Raj's depiction of these “villains” and grey characters come out as most human and realistic ones in cinema right now. He happens to be one of those artists who can best bring out the many shades of an antagonist within a narrative, and do justice to all the darkness that is hidden within its folds, without making it seem over-the-top or fictional. Prakash Raj is a celebrated actor down South, and both the Tamil and Telugu film industry hails him as a fine actor, who is a master of his craft. It was back in 1994 when Prakash made his Tamil film debut, but it was 'Naagmandala' in 1997 that finally put him under the spotlight. There was no looking back for Prakash Raj after that. © Instagram However, it was in 2009 that Prakash Raj ventured into Bollywood as Gani Bhai in Salman Khan starrer 'Wanted', and Bollywood found its newest villain it could trust with their lives (read films). That was followed by one of his most memorable negative roles in 'Singham', and Bachcha Singh in 'Dabangg 2'. We also saw him do his thing as Shetty in 'Mumbai Mirror' and later on 'Policegiri' as Nagori. © Facebook Regardless of the films he is a part of, Prakash Raj manages to carve his own niche within the film, and a dedicated fan following with his strong and convincing performances. He is the modern day, sophisticated villain who can easily transform into a suave yet lethal tormentor. Yet, his portrayal of a nemesis evoke more than just anger and terror within our hearts. Prakash Raj has quickly become Bollywood's trusted and most likeable villain, because he does justice to every grey character he dons, and brings much more to the silver screen than a character which is here to ruin everything that is good in the leading actor and actress' life.
  3. Touted to be one of Bollywood's most aspirational projects in recent times, Ayan Mukerji's directorial trilogy 'Brahmastra' has been raking up a lot of speculations surrounding the plot and key highlights of the film. A fantasy-adventure drama, the makers of 'Brahmastra' launched the movie's logo yesterday at Kumbh using 150 drones, that lit up the sky to form what looked like Lord Brahma's weapon described in ancient Hindu scriptures. View this post on Instagram the one with all the joy ðð¥ A post shared by Alia ð¸ (@aliaabhatt) on Sep 16, 2018 at 12:55am PDT What's more, we also know a few details about the film that the makers have worked really hard to keep under wraps. The film is being produced under Karan Johar's banner Dharma Productions, and he has also been taking a lot of personal interest in the making of the trilogy. From the names of characters to BTS shots, here is everything we know about Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer: 1. 'Brahmastra' will be a Sci-Fi film situated in the realm of the fantastic. Ranbir once called the film a “supernatural romantic fairytale at heart”. View this post on Instagram BrahmÄstra Everywhere ! (check link in bio) Also... Reportedly, Ranbir's character is the film has special powers and will be called Shiva. On the other hand, Alia's character will be called Isha. 4. Director Ayan Mukerji made his Instagram debut with a post that shows an anime version of what looks like Ranbir and Alia from the film. Brahmastra literally means Lord Brahma's weapon. According to ancient scriptures, the Brahmastra is supposed to be lethal and powerful enough to destroy everything that comes in its way. 6. If you're wondering how much of all that will we actually get to see in the movie, then here is what director Ayan Mukherji said about the film in 2018, “It's a modern-day film set in India as it exists today. But the reason it's called Brahmastra is because the energies, wisdom, powers in the film come from ancient India. That's all I would say. There are some costumes, maybe not the way you'd expect them to be.” View this post on Instagram BrahmÄstra Everywhere ! (check link in bio) Also... Last year during a media interaction, Ranbir also shared some insight on the trilogy and it's pretty interesting as to what he has to say. "Apart from being my best friend and my favourite director, Ayan has worked on this film for six years. He is going to spend the next 10 years of his life on this trilogy. 4. To say that Abhishek Bachchan isn't an actor of potent calibre, would be one of the most misjudged claims one could make. One that is expected to come from someone who isn't aware of the art and its nuances, or whose idea of “success” correlates to the amount of success AB Jr. has achieved, as compared to his father and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. That's one of the biggest follies of our generation. We are shouldering society's ruling belief that personal success must be measured in comparison to someone else's achievements and successes. This idea is flawed on so many levels, but mostly because it completely disregards the efforts and personal milestones a person clinches throughout his journey. © Colour Yellow Productions Abhishek Bachchan happens to be a victim of this stunted worldview most Indians suffer from. Because if you ask me, Abhishek brings more to his characters than the sketches put down on paper. Many of Abhishek's performances are prime examples of how one can bring their personal experiences to add depth and flavour to a character. There is a hint of gravitas in the characters that Abhishek brings to life. He is one of the few actors in the industry who you can trust to bring their personality into a character, and still make it work. His comic timing and wit need no introduction, and regardless of what we think of 'Happy New Year' as a film, there is no denying that Nandi Bhide's character was a complete star in the film and surely added to its success. © Red Chillies Entertainment More recently, Abhishek's portrayal of Robbie in 'Manmarziyan' as the soft-spoken family guy, only went on to show how he has evolved as a performer, yet the film also fails to completely utilise his potential as an actor in the film. Which brings us to 5 of Abhishek's most standout performances of all time that makes us wish we could have more directors bring out the best of AB Jr. once more in front of the camera: 1. Yuva This film earned Abhishek his first Filmfare Award and was undoubtedly Abhishek's most memorable performance. The angst and fierce drive inherent in the character of Lallan Singh made for a treat to behold and kept us glued to our screens. © Madras Talkies 2. Bunty Aur Babli Abhishek made his mark in the industry with his performance in this film, and even caught people's attention for his striking comic timing in the film. The crime-comedy brought out a different side to the actor that no one could disregard. 3. Sarkar Who can forget Abhishek as Shankar Nagre, a role that earned Abhishek another Filmfare Award for the best supporting role? His manipulative moves and honest rendition of the character put him in the limelight once more. © Madras Talkies 4. Guru This film and Abhishek's performance in the film needs no introduction. Inspired by Dhirubhai Ambani's life, the film earned him a lot of well-deserved critical acclaim. 5. Dhoom Trilogy Abhishek as ACP Jai Dixit has added a lot to the series, no matter how quick people are to set aside his role in the films. No Dhoom film would be as good without ACP Dixit in it.

  6. The 'MeToo' movement in our country is a wake-up call for all those eyes and ears which have been shut to a horrendous reality, that happens behind closed doors, on open roads and affects every victim in a different way. Tanushree Dutta shook the foundation of the hypocritical, diabolical world of Bollywood after she accused Nana Patekar of harassing her on a film set years ago. Her many interviews explain the trauma she had to endure, and how instead of helping her, everyone in the crew went against her and she was forced to stay silent. This bold move opened the gates of courage for many women, both in the industry and outside of it, to speak their story out loud and share their trauma with the world. Soon the social media was flooded with a plethora of #MeToo stories that shocked and baffled us in equal measure. Amongst the names of many perpetrators, AIB co-founders Tanmay Bhat, Gursimram Khamba and even Alok Nath were called out by various women. While every accused man is trying to either issue an apology or wash off these accusations, it is the deafening silence of the big Bollywood stars on this entire boiling issue of sexual misconduct, that is jarring the most. 'Queen' director Vikas Bahl was accused by several women, including Kangana Ranaut of misconduct and instead of offering her major support, most superstars have decided to stay shut. May we ask why? Is it because it might affect your double-faced relations in the industry, or is it costing you an entire movie? Offering support and calling out perpetrators is what these so-called 'influencers' have cleverly chosen to ignore. © Instagram In a recent interview, Bollywood Imran Khan came up and spoke openly about the entire Vikas Bahl episode. His statements are an eye-opener and make you question the shallow nature of this industry, that is supposedly meant to give wings to one's dreams. Imran claims that the entire industry knew about Vikas Bahl but everyone chose to ignore it. “I think it was long long long overdue. There have been times when I wanted to speak out. I was advised to stay quiet because they said people will assume I am trying to grab publicity. They (people) will say I am trying to become relevant and come in the news since my films have not worked well. Time and again, people around me will tell me to not speak up. There are a lot of things that have happened in front of me and bothered me for years. Even after being aware of so many things, I could not say it out because I somewhere felt no one will support me on it.” © Instagram Speaking of a first-hand account that he witnessed, he shared the details of how deep-rooted this problem is and just how 'normal' it is for everyone to accept this behaviour. “Very early in my career, there was a director who was auditioning for the female lead in a film. He made girls do a photoshoot in bikinis, in sexy poses. These photographs went straight to the director's personal laptops. These were not costume tests. These were not even used for marketing. So, what was he doing with these photographs? Later, he was showing these photos to the three shortlisted actresses and other women on the sets. I found it appalling. It is sexism and definitely an emotional and mental harassment. It was a wrong usage of power. There is a story later that happened with the actress. I hope she speaks of it through the story I am telling, it is her choice," he said. About Vikas Bahl, Imran blatantly claims that Bollywood is not a stranger to this issue, “everyone is talking about Vikas Bahl. I have heard his stories from three other actresses. Ranging from inappropriate touching to straight up saying that 'if you were cast in the film, what will I get in return?'. Again, I am telling you what I know directly through the actresses or from the industry. The story of this girl (in case of Vikas Bahl) came somewhere a year ago, if I am not wrong. Everyone in the film industry knew. I was at a social gathering 5-6 months ago, with a lot of people and the conversation came about MeToo movement in Hollywood. At a point, I said 'what about Bollywood?'. The Vikas Bahl matter was brushed under the carpet, a few weeks after the news first appeared, I saw him smiling, posing for pictures with every celebrity in the industry. At that point, he started making a film with Hrithik (Roshan). I was like how is it in Hollywood a culprit is shunned but here he was making a proper film. Everyone was socialising with him. So, I brought it up at the party and realised only I was the odd one there.” © Instagram While we are glad that a mainstream Bollywood figure has spoken, we still wonder how long will it be before others let the skeletons out of the closet. It is funny and obnoxious at the same time that our beloved stars go all out for campaigns and voice opinions about issues, when their movies are around the corner or they are associated with a certain brand. True, it took Imran years to open up about this and this doesn't mean that he is not guilty of hiding behind the garb of Bollywood's golden silence, but we do give credit to the man for at least asking women to speak up. “These people might not come out in open, but I wanted to stand up and say I support them completely. I cannot be silent about it anymore. My conscience will not allow me to. As a man, I know what it is to say that. I do not want to deal with negative publicity, but how these women have come out is brave. I do not want them to feel that men in the industry are not standing by them. I have chosen my words and said what I intended to say. I have been silent for long enough and it makes me feel dirty.” The people who were lauding Hollywood for its brave 'MeToo' movement are the same people who chose to wrap their silence in crafted hypocrisy. What they forget is the fact that people are evolving and no one is a fool here. You might wonder that an actor's job is to simply entertain and work towards making a wonderful movie for the fans, but allow me to explain how they also have a social responsibility to speak up for things when the issues demand their attention. Our influencers, our idols tweet and post about random things and portray an example of how certain people might want to be, so why on Earth, when this is happening in your fraternity and people you work and party with are involved, you simply choose to not speak up?
  7. Bollywood's beloved and most 'sanskaari babuji', Alok Nath, is now under the radar as he has been accused of raping and sexually violating a veteran writer-producer, nearly 20 years ago. On Monday, TV producer-writer Vinta Nanda joined the long list of women who faced sexual abuse at work. She took to social media and accused "the most Sanskaari person in the film and TV industry" of rape and sexual assault. People were quick to connect the dots and realised that she might be talking about Alok Nath and soon enough, the actor started trending on social media. In fact, in an interview to Firstpost, she confirmed that she was indeed talking about him. © Twitter She wrote, "He was an alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of that decade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour but many of the guys would egg him on to be his worst." Encouraging other women to speak up, Nanda mentioned in her post how this incident left her shattered and she went through a nervous breakdown, "I have waited for this moment to come for 19 years. I shout out to each one of you who have suffered at the hands of predators to come out and say it aloud. Don't hold yourselves back. This is a moment for change so your silence will only hold barriers to its evolution." She further wrote, "Almost 20 years later, I'm totally fine now, healed and reunited with my own self again. I'm afraid of speaking to an audience. For someone like me who was fearless and could talk to large audiences for hours, it is something that bothers me so I'm working on it." After Vinta Nanda accused him, Alok Nath has now come forward to speak about the rape accusations. Speaking to ABP, Alok Nath said "Neither I am denying this nor do I agree with it. It (rape) must have happened, but someone else must have done it. Well, I do not want to talk much about it, as for the matter, if it has come out, it will be stretched." When asked about his fans' and other celebrities' reactions, he said "What do I have to do with people? People will say anything to spoil my image. Leave my image, whatever has been said, it is absurd." He further said that he made Vinta Nanda what she is today, "At one time she used to be such a good friend...today she said such a big thing. In a way, it was me who made her what she is. It is useless to react on the allegations, as in today's world, whatever a woman says only that will be considered. In such a situation, it would be wrong to say anything." After Alok Nath's name came in the limelight, Bollywood celebrities have come forward in Nanda's support and are criticising Alok Nath's actions. Dear @vintananda I am so so sorry. As @CintaaOfficial a show-cause Notice will be sent to @aloknath first thing in the mrng, why he shudnt b expld. Unfortunately we've to follow the due process. 8. The much awaited and much-hyped trailer of this year's magnum opus, 'Thugs Of Hindostan' is finally out. Before we begin dissecting it further, let's just have a great aesthetic view of it first. First things first, Aamir Khan is easily the Johnny Depp of Bollywood, if one is allowed to do draw an innocuous comparison. The man is called a perfectionist for a reason. His role in TOH has some eerie similarities to Depp's characters from 'Pirates Of The Carribean' and 'Alice In Wonderland', and from the trailer, it looks like Aamir has nailed his performance in a way that only he could. © YRF Coming to Big B, words fall short for this mitochondria of Bollywood, who can slip into any role like changing his clothes. He can be seen pulling off some pretty kick-ass action moves in the trailer, and at his age, he is clearly giving the mainstream actors a run for their money. © YRF The movie also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif. For some reason, their appearances were kept short and crisp in the trailer, so we are guessing we'll have a better look once the next trailer is out. The movie is a YRF production, so nothing lacks in terms of cinematography and it is going to be a Diwali treat for every fan out there! 'Thugs Of Hindostan' will release in theatres on November 8th.
  9. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, two of Bollywood's biggest superstars, have decided to take things in control to bury all rumours of a possible conflict between them, which have been doing rounds for the longest time now. At least their cameos in their respective shows and movies makes us believe in this theory. © Red Chillies Entertainment After 'Bigg Boss 11', 'Tubelight' and 'Zero'; Bollywood's iconic brother-duo Karan-Arjun are back once again for Salman Khan's 'Dus Ka Dum' and thanks to the internet, we got a glipmse of how epic their reunion is going to be.
