  1. In case you haven't realised it, 2019 marks the end of a full decade. As we embark on a new journey walking into 2020 with life lessons and emotional baggage, we thought what are a few things that will stay with us from this soon to be ex of ours. One of the best things was the kind of entertainment content we got to watch as viewers in these past couple of years. So to help us all, we decided to curate a list of the 10 best shows which were entertainment gamechangers. Now you might differ in your opinion and that is perfectly okay, but here are some of the most loved shows of this decade. 1. Game Of Thrones The finale of one of the most watched shows in the history of television was kind of disappointing for a lot of fans out there, but there is a reason why GOT became the epic saga of emotions which enjoyed a cult fan following for over 8 years of its existence. The magnanimous scale of production, absolutely surprising storylines, breathtaking cinematography, and literally everything about this show changed the way an epic is lived on the screen. 2. Stranger Things An American sci-fi show based in 1984, kids running with walkie-talkies, an 'upside down' world where a hungry demon awaits to devour everything in its way are some of the basic ingredients that make this show a big success. Following the adventures of these kids makes you want to be a part of this 'cool' group yourself. Clearly one of the best sci-fi dramas we watched in the last 10 years. 3. Sacred Games The only TV show which put India on the global map of how brilliantly one can serve entrainment on a platter. Sacred Games is a collective par excellence effort of Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap brought to life with the mad genius of Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The complicated relationship between Sartaj Singh and gangster Ganesh Gaitonde and the web of lies he's trapped with are some of the key ingredients which made this show the success it became. 4. Fleabag Phoebe Waller-Bridge did something which most women-oriented shows only attempt to do. Fleabag hit the bull's eye when it first made its debut over two years ago. The freshly packed rawness of absolutely relatable characters make your heart heavy, leave you with uncomfortable contradictory thoughts after every episode, leave you with pearls of laughter and sometimes make you wonder how brilliantly the flaws have been put on display. Needless to say, this show swept a lot of awards this year, a win which was rightly deserved. 5. Crown A show that makes it to this list not only because it is wonderfully and tastefully done, but also because it is a History lover's aesthetic delight. The show chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth and the whole circle of humans around her. Each scene is like a beautifully carved scripture and demands your full attention. 6. Black Mirror This dystopian anthropological series might give you the chills with a few episodes, but Black Mirror left people asking for more all the time. This show takes the credit for being one of the most compelling shows in the history of television. If you ever want to think how the future of the human species looks like, pick any episode and treat yourself with some discomfort thrown with a lot of awe in equal measure. 7. Peaky Blinders One of those marvellously made shows which enjoy a constant amount of viewership, courtesy its brilliant scriptwriting. Fans find this show to be an addictive watch and the strongly portrayed characters make for a must-watch in case you haven't watched it already. 8. Sherlock Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective series came to life with this British show which enjoys a stellar fan following. Benedict Cumberbatch's brilliant portrayal of the detective has made it one of the most iconic characters in the history of television. 9. Rick & Morty This American adult cartoon finds it place on this list for the kind of craziness it has managed to brew amongst its fan following. The cynical world of their sci-fi adventures addresses deep philosophical questions about human existence and life in general. 10. Homeland There are a lot of series which deal with the cat and mouse chase between the authorities and the people running away from them but none of them are remotely as gripping and packed with so much suspense as Homeland. Following the way being paved by Carrie Mathinson and her mentor Saul is a visual delight. Each season follows a different storyline and each of them are equally gripping. There is not a single dull moment as you try to unravel the mystery yourself. Let us know what are some of your favourite shows so we can add them to this list and help everyone curate a 'must watch' list of their own! View the full article

  3. In 1988, a 6-year-old boy went for his first live concert with his parents in New York. At the legendary Madison Square Garden, the kid, who was possibly one of Mithun Chakraborty's biggest fans, saw his idol perform live in front of 20,000 screaming fans. Fast forward to the present, and that 6-year-old fanboy found himself sharing screen space with his idol, Mithun Da as a co-actor, in 'The Tashkent Files'. © Prashantt Guptha The little boy we're talking about is actor Prashantt Guptha, who in an exclusive interview with MensXP, spoke about how his journey and how it is nothing less than a 'divine miracle' for him to do a film with Mithun Chakraborty. BTW, did we tell you, 'The Tashkent Files' has been critically acclaimed and is doing incredibly well at the box office? Taking cue from 'Gully Boy', Prashantt said, "the milestone success of 'THE TASHKENT FILES' gives me that apna time aayega kind of feeling." © Prashantt Guptha "From 'Issaq' to 'Neerja' to 'The Tashkent Files', I came here to stay and my time has come," - Prashantt Guptha. Being a fan is one thing, but working with your idol as a co-star is a surreal experience. When we spoke to Prashantt and the excitement in his tone said it all, "the joy of going from a fanboy to co-star is no less than a divine miracle. How can I ever forget the vivid memory of him dancing to 'Krishna, dharti pe aaja tu' in front of 20,000 screaming fans. Never did I imagine that 30 years later I would work with him in a film and be on the same poster." © Prashantt Guptha When asked about his experience, he said, "Had Dada not made me comfortable from day one, I would have been nervous throughout the whole film. That was one memorable moment, where you are sitting with him and cracking jokes, eating together and even get a compliment from him. When he heard this (New York concert) story, his eyes were glittering like there were stars in his eyes." Success stories don't happen in a day, as everyone goes throuh his or her fair share of struggle. For Prashantt too, it wasn't a cakewalk or luck that worked in his favour. From facing multiple rejections, humiliation at the hands of some people to battling depression; Prashantt's struggle not only made him stronger and wiser but also gave everyone around him hope that if you have willpower, then nothing can stop you. © Prashantt Guptha Everyone comes to Mumbai with dreams to make it big in Bollywood and so did Prashantt. But, when the harsh reality dawned on him, his perception of the industry changed, "I have never appreciated how some people have treated me. I hate how people ignore you. I hate that until you haven't made it big, there's absolutely no talk about your craft, your attitude or your decency as a human being. People look through your face, look through your eyes and they ignore you. That really hurts and belittles you." However, the treatment of some people never deterred him from doing what he wanted to do, "Indeed it is traumatic to remember the ways I was treated, but the learnings have healed me too. Looking back, I have nothing but gratitude for how these experiences with people, situations, and this industry overall have shaped my being and strengthened my soul." © Prashantt Guptha He further revealed, "Here in India, we have a saying, 'chai se zyaada ketli garam'. You'll be surprised to know the biggest people I've worked with, be it the Rajshris, Vivek Agnihotri or stalwarts like Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) saab and Mithun Da, have been the nicest. Yet with the 'gatekeepers' of the offices, the secretaries and at times assistants, I've been subjugated to so much belittling and mental torture. It was simply power-play. They didn't care where I came from, what I have done, how nice I am, whom I came through, or how talented I was." © Prashantt Guptha Things were never rosy for him. Multiple rejections and most importantly, the way people treated him, slowly slipped him into depression. "When you go through all of it, you become very bitter, you become very resentful, you hurt yourself and go through mental torture." When asked about the lowest point in his career, he said "There wasn't just one low point in my career. The accrued low points led to clinical, psychological and emotional issues and that was the worst of what I've been through. Even worse was the pain my journey put my family through." © Prashantt Guptha But Prashantt never gave up nor did he let depression or the clinical issues he was going through pull him down. He not only overcame depression, but also proved his mettle to the world like a true boss. In fact, he is grateful for having gone through depression, "because that shaped me as an artist in multiple ways. You learn so much about life, learn to help others and going through a very bad patch in life shapes you for the rest of your time." Having battled and overcome depression himself, Prashantt has an important message for his fans and all those people who are reading this right now, "Depression is a very bad thing and I would say it to anybody who is going through it, the best thing you can possibly do is talk to a friend or a relative. Talking to people will really heal you through this phase. I went through it and I have no regrets anymore. That time I did, but not anymore." © Prashantt Guptha Currently, Prashantt is working on a film with veteran actress Revathi. On talking about his co-actor and the chemistry he shares with her, he said "I am currently doing a film with Revathi, where I play her son and that has been my toughest and most enjoyable role. Revati ji, who is a three-time national award winner, is by far one of the finest human beings." He is also doing another short film with actress Bidita Bag and a feature film with Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee. What's more, it is his hardwork and talent that has made him the only Indian actor ever to get cast as a lead in a Hollywood Christmas movie. The movie, 'A New Christmas' is the story of an Indian boy and an African girl, who meet in New York during Christmas and fall in love. © Prashantt Guptha From being a little boy in New York who moved to Mumbai and struggled to become an actor, Prashantt has come a long way, "My journey has made me a better actor, has made me a tougher human being, has taught me how to meditate and it humanises me in every way. But, I have no regrets. I have got from some fine examples to learn from. I learn from Irrfan Khan, Pankaj Tripathy and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Manoj Bajpai. These are the actors I look up to and actors I want to become like. And they all took a very long time." We all love reading and talking about success stories, but how many of us get that 'one in a million' chance to live one? Prashantt Guptha got it and he grabbed the opportunity with both his hands. Today, his inspiring success story has become a valuable lesson we all can learn from.
  4. Are you sad because the next season of your favourite series is a long time away and you won't be able to see your favourite character for months together? We get you! 2018 brought a lot of great shows with it. Netflix India's first original series, 'Sacred Games', got viewers hooked with its dark, ominous theme and riveting storyline and broke various records in the streaming service arena. The whole country waited with bated breath for Sartaj Singh to find the true culprit and the secrets they had buried. © Phantom Films/Netflix Many new shows graced the screen, old shows came back starring our adored and abhorred characters; 'Stranger Things' was back for Round 2 and so was Midge Maisel (but on the stage). Unfortunately, Dany didn't return last year to treat us with a dragon sighting, though she will do so this year with Jon by her side. © Netflix /21 Laps Entertainment © Amazon Video/Amazon Studios/Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions We found a few favourites like Bunty from 'Sacred Games' with his omnipresent chhatri and Ganesh Gaitonde who showed us that love should know no bounds. Kukko made a fantastic statement for queer representation on TV. © Phantom Films/Netflix © Phantom Films/Netflix 'Mirzapur', Amazon Prime Video India's answer to 'Sacred Games', with its violent and wicked storyline focusing on arms trafficking, found favor with the audience (but not as much as 'Sacred Games'). With memes galore and unending praise for the characters, 2018 was a surefire year for storytelling and unique characters. I think fictional characters have the best life; they live on in the minds of people long after they have gone away. Talking about characters in these shows, we were provided with a plethora of options which made choosing something to watch extremely difficult and taxing. But the bingers we are, we devoured all these shows like Cersei does with her wine or Ethan did with that chocolate bar on Yom Kippur. 2019 has to carry the legacy of its predecessor and continue the stories of the characters we saw on screen and fell in love with; some good, some bad and some completely mad. With speculations and predictions running high, here are 10 such characters whose life stories we are looking forward to in 2019: Note: Spoilers ahead. This post is chock-block of spoilers. Read at your own risk: 1. Sartaj Singh (Sacred Games): Troubled cop Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) had a major breakthrough in the final episode of Season 1. Sartaj has gone from strength to strength and grown into a more confident person, a departure from his personality in Episode 1. Now that he has unearthed the secret of the arms trade connected to the Home Minister, what other corruption and crime scams will he uncover? Will he be able to find out who Zoya is? © Phantom Films/Netflix Let's hope he finds out the true motive behind his father's softness for Gaitonde. The more important question is: How is he dealing with Katekar's death? :P Now that has a clear idea of what is to come, will he be able to save the city before it's too late? Seeing that he has only 14 days to do the impossible, we hope that Sartaj's newfound self-assurance works well for him and the people who might be in the danger of a nuclear war. 2. Guruji (Sacred Games): Will the elusive Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi) finally get more time screen? Gaitonde's (supposed?) death qualifies Guruji to become the lead villain in the series. What heinous plans does he have in mind for Mumbai now and will his masterplan work? The curious iconography that Sartaj uncovers is a symbol of Guruji. What does the mandala entail? Does it have a more sinister connotation than hinted? Does he have any links to Zoya Mirza? © Phantom Films/Netflix Gaitonde's third father figure is said to have a meatier part in Season 2. Let's wait to see what fresh hell he has planned for us to witness. 3. Midge Maisel and Susie Myerson (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel): The quirky Mrs. Maisel is coming back with a bang! Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) seems to have finally found a break; she will be opening for singer Shy Baldwin. Now that her family has been let on to the secret, will Midge be attuned to spreading her horizons? How is that going to affect her newly-turned, gone “full-on breaking bad” father, Abe Weissman and her delightfully neurotic momzilla, Rose? What about Benjamin? Will he return to Midge's life? We would love to see how that unfurls. The last episode left out a lot of strings to be tied. An important arc to be seen is whether Midge will get back together with Joel. © Amazon Video/Amazon Studios/Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions Like Midge, Susie's life seems to be going to a better place. After her altercation with Sophie Lennon, she gets an offer by Sophie to represent her. The image of Susie (Alex Borstein) in a fur coat walking out of Sophie's house with a bewildered expression is the best part of Season 2. Will she accept the offer, or has she done it already? The dynamic in their relationship seems to be a tad bit bitter and we hope we get to see the drama that it will lead to in Season 3. Will Susie and Midge finally be able to earn some money and become famous? We just hope. 4. Ganesh Gaitonde (Sacred Games): Is he really dead or did he have a sort of resurrection planned with Guruji? What was his bunker really for? © Phantom Films/Netflix Whatever he had planned seems to have gone horribly wrong. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is set to return as the OG underbelly king, whether he will tell his story from behind the grave is still uncertain, though we will like to see more of Gaitonde and the story of his rise to power and the years before he returns, after being kidnapped. Also, what was his relationship with Sartaj's father? In any case, Ganesh Gaitonde is one of the most anticipated characters to return to screen in 2019 and people can hardly wait. 5. Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and the Lannister siblings (Game of Thrones): The highly anticipated last season of the show is sure to be the best of the lot. There is a myriad of characters whose storylines intersect and make the intense puzzle complete, but it is these five who are hell-bent on conquering the throne. Jon's arc which has been highlighted since the beginning has become more invigorating. Now that he has sought an alliance with Daenerys, it will be interesting to see how the next events pan out. Will he be able to defeat the Night King? © HBO What will happen when he finds out his true origin of being Aegon Targaryen? Daenerys has always wanted to become the Queen, but how will it affect her stature now that there's another Targaryen alive? That too, her nephew and lover! With one of her dragons on the Night King's side, how will she cope with fighting one of her babies? We already know now that Sansa isn't a great fan of Dany. Things look dismal for her. What is up with Tyrion and his odd behaviour? Are his loyalties shifting? Jaime has left the comfort of the Red Keep and is travelling North. Now that Jaime has left his sister's side will he be joining the Starks? Wine connoisseur, Queen Cersei seems to be content with her illegitimate capture of the throne, but distress has found her in the form of her brother and lover, Jaime leaving her. Is it really Jaime's baby that she is carrying or is it a hoax? Will she actually help fight the war against the White Walkers? Well, we can only know in April. 6. The Gang in Stranger Things (Stranger Things): Eleven is back with the nerd gang of Hawkins and everything seems to be going well. Except, everything is going to change. With Will Byers still afraid after his stint with the monster from Upside Down, Jonathan and Nancy starting a relationship, the story is delving deeper into the sleepy town. Michael is happy, so does Lucas with Max. Everyone seems to be calm. But is it the indication of the storm to come? Important question: What about the mother hen of the group, Steve Harrington? And is he going to try to win Nancy back? We love a love triangle a-brewing. © Netflix/21 Laps Entertainment I hope there are a lot of precious scenes which show the camaraderie and bromance between Steve and Dustin grow even more. Perhaps, he'll teach him how to babysit with perfection! :P Will Hopper and Joyce get together finally? Will Will ever be able to defeat the Demogorgon? One of the most exciting series on the list for sure with the quirkiest of characters. 7. Anne Shirley-Cuthbert (Anne with an E): Anne seems to be growing into quite the intelligent young woman, along with the support of her friends and family. Will we finally see Anne breaking off from her terrible past, whose flashbacks still haunt her? We need to see that. The third season is likely to focus on her education and the other perils growing up brings with it. Just imagine how many fancy, grandiose words she must have learnt, and written the most beautiful of stories. Her budding friendship with Gilbert Blythe is also an important storyline which will be pursued. Also, the chemistry between Anne and Diana is a treat to watch; I suspect both will cook up some new mischief in Green Gables, aided by Jerry. We also want Cole to be back! © Netflix/CBC Watching her grow and prosper, from the young, afraid orphan into the apple of the eyes of Avonlea's people, makes you root for her more strongly. With her radical thinking and unbending spirit, we do hope Anne goes on to become the Anne we love from the books. Coming back in 2019, Anne will be 16 and ready to follow her own path; perhaps she will become like Miss Stacy or an author. 8. Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret (The Crown): Claire Foy's farewell (which was sad, and I still can't believe they replaced her and the other actors) from the show has paved way for Olivia Coleman's reign as the Sovereign. We will see Queen Elizabeth II in her middle-age and how far she has come in her role of safeguarding the Crown. A more mature Elizabeth is sure to change a lot of things around (we hope the Corgis make a comeback :P) and must have become mellower, but only in appearance, not in spirit. Interesting to watch will be her dynamic with the new, female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher and the unofficial feud which they were rumoured to have. © Netflix/Sony Pictures Television Another intriguing arc will be her growth in her role as Queen and her relationship with her husband which seemed strained in the last season, and her children and their partners, especially Princess Diana. A character who will play a pivotal role hereafter is the willful Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter, previously played by Vanessa Kirby), with her very public divorce to Lord Snowdon. Another blow to the already frail royalty. Carter is sure to play the character with her trademark finesse. © Netflix/Sony Pictures Television 9. Sheila and Joel (Santa Clarita Diet): Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is still a zombie at the end of Season 2 and there seems to be no cure for it. Joel (Timothy Olyphant) has tried everything in his power to bring her back to her human form but seems to have made peace with the fact that it may not happen. © Netflix So, we hope Sheila remains a zombie for the next season as well and carries on her spirited “criminal hunt-and-eat extravaganza”, with perennial support from the ever-dependable Joel Now that she has a devotee in the form of the police chief Anne, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Will she be able to connect with her daughter Abby, all eccentricities aside? Will Joel ever get his human Sheila back? Wait and watch! 10. Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher): Starring (ex)Superman Henry Cavill, this Netflix original is based on The Witcher book series. Henry looks menacing as Geralt, and rightly so since he plays a monster hunter. The series will chronicle his life as a lonely hunter in the Continent, helping people get rid of monsters, eventually falling in love with the beautiful sorceress, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and adopting Princess Ciri who has a terrible secret which will change his life. © Netflix/Kapital Entertainment We eagerly wait for Cavill, with his charismatic presence to enthral us by portraying a character we love. The amount of time awaiting these characters to grace the screen seems like an eternity. So, which one of them are you waiting for? :D
  5. Nyle DiMarco is the sort of person who has never let his disability hamper his life journey. The biggest proof of that? When the producers of 'America's Next Top Model' approached him, they had no idea that he is deaf. Nyle ended up being the only deaf person ever to have won the coveted contest in 2015, which is one of the toughest modelling contests in the world. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nyle DiMarco (@nyledimarco) on Apr 11, 2018 at 9:47am PDT Not only is he super accomplished as a model, but he is also a gifted dancer - the kind who went on to win 'Dancing With The Stars' the very next year, despite not being able to hear music, the mainstream way. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nyle DiMarco (@nyledimarco) on May 24, 2016 at 9:21pm PDT Nyle has a degree in Mathematics as well. Though he uses sign language to communicate, he is fluent in written English. He also uses lip reading and non-verbal communication in his daily life. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nyle DiMarco (@nyledimarco) on May 24, 2018 at 8:26am PDT In June 2016, he walked for Giorgio Armani at the Milan Fashion Week (Spring/Summer) 2017. He was also honoured as DEAF LIFE Magazine's "Deaf Person of the Year" (January 2017 issue). He maintains that he does not consider himself disabled by deafness and sees his media profile as an opportunity to bring awareness to Deaf culture. He views deafness as an advantage in modelling because he is accustomed to communicating without speaking. Kudos, Nyle!
  6. Delhi Capitals (DC) did themselves a big favour when they traded Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auctions. Carrying on his momentum from the last game against Mumbai Indians (MI), Dhawan went on to score a thrilling half-century in the second match itself against the mighty Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Being the only one to score big in the team, the left-hander piled up 51 runs out of the 147 of the team. Getting some assistance from Prithvi Shaw at the beginning, followed by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant in the later stages, 'Gabbar' moulded his innings to perfection to aid the home side. View this post on Instagram Patient. Determined. Responsible That was @shikhardofficial today for the @delhicapitals as he notched up his 33rd #VIVOIPL half century ð A post shared by IPL (@iplt20) on Mar 26, 2019 at 9:01am PDT Despite the loss, DC will be delighted as most of their top-order batsman appear in good form, unlike the previous seasons. Whether it was Pant and Colin Ingram in the opening match or Dhawan and Shaw in last night's encounter, Delhi's top-order looks in ominous form. Thanks to his fifty against CSK, Dhawan (94 runs) climbed to the second spot in the race for the 'Orange Cap', which is currently donned by his teammate Pant who leads the list with 103 runs to his name. With the arrival of iconic Ricky Ponting as the coach and legendary Saurav Ganguly as Team Advisor, a new-look Delhi looks is slowly, yet steadily establishing themselves as serious contenders this season.
  7. From the looks of it, 'Made In Heaven' is about two wedding planners, Tara Khanna (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur) and the shenanigans that come with planning a big fat Indian wedding. But that's just the surface of it all. MIH is just as much about everything else Bollywood has been brushing under the carpet all these years. The choice between aspiration and self respect, the price you pay for freedom and what it really takes to stand up for yourself – MIH is basically Bollywood growing up. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Nitya Mehra, Alankrita Shrivastava, and Prashant Nair, the show is spread across 9 riveting episodes, each following the protagonists as they sign up for a new wedding, each pulling you deeper and deeper into their personal lives, making you feel their darkest truths so convincingly, you're reminded of your own. © Amazon Prime This isn't your typical 'rich people dealing with rich people problems' narrative. The characters are polished (well, most of them) but the storytelling is as raw and unadulterated as it gets – to the point that it makes you uncomfortable with its unabashed reality. Even though there are a myriad of new characters introduced in every episode, the prolific writing makes them all stand out well. They're not just distinct from each other, they're too damn real, be it the starry-eyed Jazz who fancies everything rich or the already rich Adil who's unapologetic about having an extra marital affair. These are people we know, the people we see, the people we are - in all their glory and all their flaws. © Amazon Prime SPOILERS AHEAD: At one of the weddings, the father of the bride is caught molesting a 'mehendiwali'. The bride offers her Rs 2 lakh as a compensation. Just when you think the show would make a strong point against it, “5 lakh” the mehendiwali blurts out nervously. And that's the kind of bold this show is. Bold not visually, but because they raise uncomfortable conversations that happen around us all the time but are never acknowledged. Can money really buy everything? How far would you go to live a life you've always aspired for? How sacred are marriages really anyway? © Amazon Prime The show not just normalizes relevant subjects like mental health, sexual assault and homosexuality but goes one step ahead in their representation. For once, a gay character isn't reduced to an effeminate caricature used as a device to evoke humour. The gay community is represented as is. Even when the show raises an important point about the criminalization of homosexuality, it does so without seeking sympathy or preaching. There's no deliberate attempt to make Karan's homosexuality a plot twist or use it to titillate the audiences. Gay people are treated just like their straight folks on the show – as people. Karan, one of the two protagonists, is a man who's sure of his sexuality and very much in touch with his sexual desires. Karan's sexuality isn't what the show is about, it's just one of the many parts that make him who he is – and that's normalization in its truest sense. It's not that Bollywood hasn't seen films on this subject before. But MIH gets spot on in the nuanced depiction of how homophobia goes deeper than shame – it sometimes makes you do things that you regret for the rest of your life. © Amazon Prime What the show also gets right is the cast. Each and every actor on the show, however much small their screen presence may be, is splendid. Arjun Mathur's Karan is probably one of the finest portrayals of a gay character ever in Bollywood. Arjun has pushed the envelope and how! His vulnerability moves you to tears. Sobhita as Tara shines as the lower middle class girl who's crossed over to the other side and now, can't decide who she identifies as anymore. Even with all her flaws, she makes you root for her like nobody else. Jim Sarbh is a revelation as Adil. He's so effortless and real, you're convinced of his dilemma even without him having to spell it out for you. Shashank Arora and Kalki Koechlin also do complete justice to the characters they play. Shivani Raghuvanshi as Jazz is a treat to watch. Hers is probably of the most well-written characters and her performance adds several more layers to the writing. The cast also boasts of some brilliant actors like Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Duggal, Deepti Naval, Vinay Pathak, Neena Gupta, Vijay Raaz, and Vikrant Massey who leave a mark even in the little screen time that they get. © Amazon Prime 'Made In Heaven' is easily one of the best shows ever made in India. You've got to watch it to know what Bollywood has been missing out on all these years. It's a master class in screenwriting for the Indian film industry. Thank you for this, Zoya Akhtar!
  8. Ahead of the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League, Netflix India has come up with an original docu-series, 'Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians', that covers the journey of a young but very capable owner in Akash Ambani and an extremely energetic core basis which the MI Paltan is formed. Sleepless nights? Nervous nail biting? Screaming at your screen? If you've experienced any or all of these symptoms you might have Cricket Fever, premieres 1st March. pic.twitter.com/Ujl1tq6Els — Netflix India (@NetflixIndia) February 5, 2019 What begins much like any other cricket-specific documentary with fans highlighting how important and gravitationally pulling the sport is in India, 'Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians' soon deep-dives into the lives of those individuals that made the franchise come together. The unique and professional relationship being shared by Akash Ambani with mother, Nita Ambani as co-owners of the team as shown throughout the series is refreshing. Taking away a major portion of the responsibilities off his mother's shoulders, Akash has stepped up as an owner who not only cares about picking up the good players during the auction by also tries his best to become one of them during locker room talks, training sessions and meals as they take on the journey that the 2018 IPL really was. From a trip down the memory lane with Hardik and Krunal Pandya to the heartwarming story of Jasprit Bumrah and his proud mother, the series helps the Indian audience get to know their favourite cricketers a little more intimately, a little more personally. Getting to see Rohit Sharma successfully operate as the leader of the team that features athletes coming from different parts of the world, who approach the game a lot differently than his national teammates, says a thousand words about his brilliance not only as a batsman but also a captain and why he is given the role of the leader of the Men in Blue in the absence of Virat Kohli. What is unique about the series is how it did not just casually cruise over the defeats MI went through last year. The process of a team facing disappointment, expressing their emotions fresh after a loss in an open-floor discussion hosted by coach Mahela Jayawardene, motivating each other and getting ready to fight another day, has been beautifully captured by Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE), the studio that produced the series. In essence, even though Mumbai Indians was unable to win the title last year, the base of an organisation as grand as this is built on a lot of experiences and stories that are worth telling and that's exactly what 'Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians' has conveyed in this 8-episode docu-series.
  9. It's never too late for anyone to follow their dreams. India's Mohammed Shami has proven that to be a true as he has made a historic return to the Indian cricket team after more than a year and a half and has flourished against the toughest of rivals the Men in Blue have gone against ever since. The year 2018 was extremely tough on the Indian pacer had he was not only on his way to recovering from a career-threatening knee injury but was also being slammed by the media and the judicial system for the ugly divorce case was he going through. For an athlete, the mental impact of an injury as severe as Shami's can be a lot more devastating than the physical damage. Add to that the constant stress of the infamous case being broadcasted nationwide and the results can be beyond repairable. Thankfully for Mohammed Shami, who not only won the case against his ex-wife but also was able to make a fantastic comeback, overcame the demons in his head and now is one of the more dependable bowlers for the Indian roster who has a great chance of getting a berth in the World Cup roster. But what led to the heroic comeback of the pacer? According to his interview with India Today, Shami was able to return to his glory days because of the sudden change in the culture of the team. “The fitness awakening that we have had has had a huge impact on me. I looked at others and worked on my game. I have enjoyed it fully. The fitness culture that we have in our team is amazing, you cannot even think about it,” said the cricketer. Taking inspiration from the more athletic teammates with the likes of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, Shami, who had failed the famous 'Yo-Yo' fitness test last year, not only passed by also became one of the top performers ahead of India's long multi-national tour began in late 2018, according to the team's head coach, Ravi Shastri. In the series against Australia and New Zealand, Shami was not only one of the most successful Indian bowlers but also became the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 ODI wickets (56 matches) breaking Irfan Pathan's record of 59 matches. 100 ODI wickets and counting for @MdShami11 ðð#TeamIndia #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/3RVvthg1CH — BCCI (@BCCI) January 23, 2019 “I am thankful to God that I have been able to make this record. There are many reasons behind it. Biggest is the unbelievably brilliant atmosphere in the dressing room, followed by the confidence that I have in ability right now and also the things that I continue to learn from our coaches,” said Shami. “Everything has contributed and combined to take me to the another level. There are many minute things which bring in a lot of confidence and help us to get into the rhythm. For instance, not just on the ground, have a look at the way we (Indian players) treat each other off the field too. We enjoy every little thing. This helps a great deal,” said Shami. Shami is named for the final squad for the five-match ODI series against Australia and will also be playing for King XI Punjab in the 12th edition of the Indian Primier League (IPL) this season.
  10. Comedy is just a funny way of being serious but there is nothing harder than doing comedy. Laughter is a big part of our lives, we must try to laugh as much as possible because life is too short to be grumpy and irritated. In recent years, TV Series' have become an essential part of our lives. A heartfelt thanks to all the writers and actors who put a smile on our faces with their humour and wit. Comedy isn't only about being funny, it is a perspective on greater problems in a jovial way; it questions the long-standing, archaic human emotions. Feeling low? Watch a funny show, you will feel positively better. Whenever it comes to comedy shows, 'Friends' and 'Seinfeld' among others always take the cake. But, there are a lot of other shows which don't get their due because of not enough fanfare or publicity, even if they are funny and have good material. Under the more popular opinion, these shows tend to get underrated. Being a 'Friends' fan myself, I can't possibly think that there is some other show which might come at par with it; this is where I stand wrong. If you only eat a particular type of food, you wouldn't get to experience the taste of others. So, branch out! Here are six of the best comedy shows (unfortunately underrated) which deserve a much bigger fanbase and greater popularity: 1. Grace and Frankie (2015-): What would you do if you found out that your partner of 40 years was gay? This is what happens to Grace Hanson and Frankie Bergstein who are well into their early 70s and find out that their respective husbands, Robert and Sol (played splendidly by Michael Sheen and Sam Waterston), are gay and have been cheating on them with each other for the past 20 years. Crazy, right? To top it off, Robert and Sol want to divorce their respective wives and get married. © Netflix / Skydance Television / Okay Goodnight This starts a series of hilarious incidents with Grace and Frankie leaving their husbands and moving into a beach house owned by both families. What follows is a funny train wreck. With starkly opposite personalities, the prim and proper Grace and eccentric, scatter-brained Frankie who hate each other and have never got along well, clash at every opportunity which ends up with comedic results; Frankie being declared officially by government offices, Sol becoming a theatre artist, Grace exploring her sexuality and dating pool, eventually Grace and Frankie becoming best friends and starting a vibrator business! If you think what a show with two old women could have in store for a young person like you, then you will be mightily surprised by the comedic elements and situations of the show; which is the main theme. Just give it a try! Why do we recommend it? - Jane Fonda is superb as Grace Hanson, the no-nonsense, uptight intelligent blonde and Lily Tomlin as the lovable, doofus, hippie-inspired Frankie Bergstein and they carry the whole show on their shoulders. - Their comedic timing is impeccable and their camaraderie from the “9 to 5” (another movie in which they starred together) days is fun to watch and effortless. © Netflix / Skydance Television / Okay Goodnight -An ensemble cast with June Diane Raphael and Brooklyn Decker as the Hanson daughters and the Ethan Embry and Baron Vaughn as the quirky Bergsteins are a hoot. - It shows how you don't need to worry about age to have fun and start afresh. Nothing more to be expected from Marta Kauffman, who gave us 'Friends'! You are sure to get a lot of 'Friends' vibes. No. of seasons: 4 Total no. of seasons: 5 (4 released, 1 to be released in 2019) 2. Schitt's Creek (2015-): Don't judge a show by its title! :D © CBC / Not a Real Company Productions When the uber-rich Roses lose their multi-million fortune to tax evasion, they are forced to leave their mansion and settle in a town, Schitt's Creek, which they once bought as a joke for their son's birthday. Follow the Roses as they try to adapt to their new life in this dilapidated town in America; starting with living in a descript, cheap motel and the town's horde of quirky characters; Roland Schitt, the creepy mayor and his innocent wife, Jocelyn among others. The series further follows the lives of the individual characters, and how they evolve; Johnny Rose: The patriarch, previous owner of a chain of video stores, Rose Videos, who is trying to come to terms with his loss and his new business ventures which mostly have funny repercussions. Moira Rose: A former TV star of a mildly successful show called 'Sunrise Bay' who can't cope with the sudden shift of fortunes and is still trying to maintain her lifestyle, complete with her over the top costumes and precious wigs (which she has individually named). Alexis Rose: The spoilt, slightly dumb and utterly selfish daughter who has breezed through life till now and been everywhere in the world, with her various rich boyfriends and is trying to be okay with her situation because she likes the vibe. :P David Rose: The gay, sassy son of the Roses, who needs everything in order and is not very happy with how his life has turned out and is trying to find some direction in life and also friends and love (and does so with the motel receptionist, Stevie Budd). © CBC / Not a Real Company Productions Why do we recommend it? -The iconic pair of Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, who play Johnny and Moira, gives the laughs and the feels for the show. Their camaraderie is unbreakable. Catherine's Moira is superlative. Only she can pull off all those different accents and the whole uptight, classy lady act. For all the troubles they face, the love for each other doesn't diminish in the slightest. Eugene is Eugene, the affectionate dad from American Pie. -The episodes are funny and earthy; they have captured the essence of human relations and portray them through comic scenarios. -“Eww David!”, Alexis' (Annie Murphy, who plays the character brilliantly) catchphrase will make you laugh every time and will make sure that you won't be able to say and hear “David” normally again. Stevie (Emily Hampshire) and David (Daniel Levy) are friendship goals; they are adorable together. -Chris Elliot as the mayor, Roland, provides the creepiness required which is balanced by his counterpart, Jocelyn, played by Jennifer Robertson. No. of seasons: 4 Total no. of seasons: 5 (4 released, 1 to be released) 3. Full House (1987-1995): Even though it was a popular show, I somehow find that it doesn't get its fair share, being termed as a family comedy. A comedy about a recently widowed guy, Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), who along with his best friend, Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), and cool brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis, tries to raise and care for his three daughters. © WB Television / Miller Boyett Productions The series focuses on the crazy antics of the Tanner family and the hysterical situations they fall into owing to the kookiness of Joey, the OCD which Danny has and his obsessive nature and the cool dude factor of Jesse. The girls, DJ, Stephanie and Michelle, aged 10, 5 and six months, add to the charm of this family comedy. Why do we recommend it? - Before Joey Tribbiani was asking women how they were doing, it was Jesse, played by John Stamos who was making women go weak in their knees with his “Have Mercy!”. The character is tailor-made for John, with his obsession with his hair and music, he is the cool uncle we want and the guy everyone wants to be. Get a few pointers from him but follow them at your own risk! :P - Joey and Chandler are iconic, no doubt about that but so are Jesse and Joey. Their bromance will make you laugh all the way through its 8-season run. You could say that they were the “Chanoey” of the 80s. Aunt Becky (played by Lori Loughlin), Jesse's wife, doesn't have a chance. © WB Television / Miller Boyett Productions - The show features the now reclusive Olsen twins: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen as Michelle Tanner. Starting out at the age of six months, it was their stairway to success. Prepare to get sappy with their adorable acting and laugh at their fights with her on-screen older siblings. - Danny Tanner, with his penchant for cleaning, will remind you of Monica. They are basically the same person; Type A, nerdy, cleanliness freaks, I can go on and on. You will find yourself relating to him. - Dave Coulier's impressions are legendary, and you get to hear Ted Mosby's 2030 voice before it became cool, i.e. the voice of Bob Saget. No. of seasons: 8 Total no. of seasons: 8 4. Community (2009-2015): This show is what we would call the runt of the litter. Even though it has intelligent writing and superb performances, it doesn't get featured much on the comedy scene. It has an unconventional brand of humour, mostly meta humour which most people don't get or are not used to in the conventional sitcoms. It features a sarcastic former lawyer, Jeff Winger, who has been disbarred owing to his lie about having a law degree from Colombia University, as a result of which he enrols into Greendale College in order to obtain an authentic law degree. After starting a fake study group to spend more time with his new crush, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) who is an activist for various causes, his plans go awry as she invites other students into the group. © NBC / Sony Pictures What follows is a laugh riot comprising of his struggle to finish his degree with minimum effort and having to deal with a host of weird fellow students and teachers while trying to enjoy his time as a student. © Pinterest Why do we recommend it? - Joel McHale as the glib, manipulative, suave ex-lawyer, Jeff, is perfection. His chemistry with classmate Britta is believably sweet. - Abed and Troy are poster boys for friendship. Their scenes together are tummy-tickling funny and the best thing about them is that they bring out the best in each other, Abed's influence and pop-culture mania make Troy carefree and different from his bully demeanour and Troy helps Abed to become more sociable. -Ben Chang, the eccentric teacher who is constantly changing his behaviour, played by Ken Jeong (of 'The Hangover' and 'Dr Ken' fame) is hilarious. Also, Shirley and Annie add to the insanity with their antics. No. of seasons: 6 Total no. of seasons: 6 5. Psych (2006-2014): A detective comedy which centres around Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a crime consultant who has made people believe that he is a psychic and is then mainly hired by the Santa Barbara police department for solving complex crimes. What no one is aware of is that he is no psychic, but he has just heightened observational skills and a strong eidetic memory. He is joined by his best friend, the only one on the secret, Burton Gunser (Dulé Hill) who is extremely intelligent and apprehensive about joining him initially. Together, they solve crimes with hilarious incidents preceding it. © NBC Universal Television Studio / Universal Cable Productions Why do we recommend it? - The comedy is not derivative and very real. There is no canned laughter and the series relies on the comic timing of the leads completely. - The episodes are not over the top and unlike other comedies has a story. The stories are well-executed and don't drag on. - The episode starts with a memoir from the childhood of both leads usually ending with a life lesson which further helps them in cracking the case. © NBC Universal Television Studio / Universal Cable Productions No. of seasons: 8 Total no. of seasons: 8 6. Everybody Loves Raymond (1996-2005): Created by the talented Philip Rosenthal, with events inspired by his own life, it is an uproarious comedy about Raymond Barone (Ray Romano), a successful sports writer for the newspaper “Newsday”, who is sarcastic and irresponsible and as a result constantly finds himself in the middle of some or the other funny argument or jam, a creation of his own callousness. The constant struggle between his wife Debra and his mother, Marie, keeps throwing him in a tight spot, from which there is no easy escape without offending one of them. Yet again, if not these two women, he is bound to get in the middle of some familial argument, which doesn't go well for him due to his indecisiveness on any matter which sure entertains the viewer. Raymond's knack for joking even in serious situations also lands him in hot waters; he doesn't know when to crack jokes and this makes him adorable. © CBS / HBO Independent Productions / Where's Lunch Why do we recommend it? - The dry humour is a respite from the slapstick humour recent shows provide and are heavily dependent on. You are bound to get a 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai' vibe while witnessing Debra (Patricia Heaton) and Marie (Doris Roberts) arguing. - The sibling rivalry between Raymond and his older brother, Robert, a giant of a man with a sweet disposition, who is not so famous and is clearly not the parents' favourite, will surely remind you of your sibling! They keep arguing throughout the show because Robert is constantly jealous of Raymond's celebrity and likability but loves him deep down. - The show explores how family is important and how much it matters to have a loving one and how it changes you. Frank Barone, typical of his American-Italian heritage is shown to be tough but is a loving father under the surly exterior; which Raymond has adopted in a way which is a bone for contention in his and Debra's marriage. No. of seasons: 9 Total no. of seasons: 9 Now that you know that there are better shows out there, go get your fair share of laughter!
  11. It felt like smooth sailing for the Indian cricket team as the score read 'Australia 26/2'. Enter Shaun Marsh, who had scored 54 but was caught out by Mohammed Shami off Kuldeep Yadav in the first ODI, and oh, how things changed. The way the wickets were falling for the Indian bowlers, Marsh was presumed to be no more than a small curb in their way. Boy, were they wrong. A brilliant performance from Shaun Marsh to post his 7th ODI hundred!#AUSvIND | @toyota_aus pic.twitter.com/ikonMqRz99 — cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) January 15, 2019 Forgetting the batting woes of his past, especially in the longest format of the game, Marsh looked a new man. Putting up massive partnerships, first with Usman Khawaja (53 runs) and later on with Glenn Maxwell (93 runs), Marsh was reaching for the boundary at will. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and even debutant Mohammed Siraj were all taken to school as the Aussie batsman hit a total of 11 fours and three sixes in his 131-run innings, which makes it his best innings in Australia till date. The ton is his seventh overall and also makes him the first Australian to score in three digits in any international format of the game, since Marsh had scored 106 in the third ODI in South Africa on 11th November, last year. His performance against India comes at the best possible time, especially when the selectors at Cricket Australia are looking for in-form players to prepare the best team that they can for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup. With Australia's best cricketers namely Steve Smith and David Warner having suspended contracts under Cricket Australia for the infamous ball-tampering case against South Africa in March, last year, and Tim Paine's excruciating failure as the skipper during the Border-Gavaskar cup against India, the team is desperately searching for a good leader and Shaun Marsh fits all the categories like a glove. While the Australian fans are head over heels after the batsman's exceptional knock, the Indian fans didn't shy away either from commending his efforts: More than enough. 12. With more and more talent flooding the courts of the league, the window for impressing the team managers and, of course, the fans, closes very quickly for most NBA players. A couple of bad seasons and you might be reduced to nothing but a footnote in another player's biography. A majority of the players do not get picked by any of teams and get detached from the league without even making a single news article. But, there is no way to figure out when and at what point in his career, a player might find his mojo back and stun the world with a surprising comeback. We are talking about the ones the world had forgotten or overlooked in the shadow of another player, but are dominating the league this season. 1. Derrick Rose - Minnesota Timberwolves Derrick Rose tallies a CAREER-HIGH 50 PTS in the @timberwolves victory! #AllEyesNorth #ThisIsWhyWePlay pic.twitter.com/L4U2XvTv2l — NBA (@NBA) November 1, 2018 Once known as the 'Windy City Assassin', Derrick Rose is the youngest MVP of the league, ever. But ever since he tore his ACL during his Chicago Bulls days, the MVP in him got lost somewhere deep down. Unable to perform after his return, Rose got traded a couple of times before he landed in Minnesota in the summer of 2018. Maybe it was the cold Minnesota weather or his reunion with coach Tom Thibodeau, Rose seemed to play like his old self from the get-go. Even having himself a 50-point-game, a career-high, Rose is averaging an impressive 18.9 points per game and is in the talks of becoming an All-Star and the Sixth Man of the Year. 2. The 19-year-old was picked third in the 2018 NBA Draft and is considered to eventually become the greatest Maverick since Dirk Nowitzki. Already playing on an All-Star level, DonÄiÄ leads all rookies in total points and points per game, is second in total assists and assists per game and third in total rebounds and rebounds per game. 3. Victor Oladipo - Indiana Pacers View this post on Instagram Thankful ðð¿ A post shared by Victor Oladipo (@vicoladipo) on Dec 13, 2018 at 3:03pm PST Probably the most underrated player in the league right now, Victor Oladipo lost all traction after a below-average performance with Russell Westbrook's Oklahoma City Thunder and was traded to Indiana Pacers in a deal to acquire Paul George. While not quite settled in Indiana in 2017, the state has completely embraced Oladipo this season. Showing up in the clutch, Oladipo is having the best season of his career averaging 19.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists and has helped Indiana rank third in the Eastern Conference. 4. Pascal Siakam - Toronto Raptors View this post on Instagram Humble hustleðð¾ðð¾ð¶ #ripdad #doingitforyouðð¾ A post shared by Pascal Siakamðð¾ðªð (@pskills43) on Dec 30, 2018 at 8:07pm PST Not a very famous name in the league, Raptors forward Pascal Siakam is making a good case for the 'Most Improved Player of the Year' award. The absence of Center Jonas ValanÄiÅ«nas had provided the 24-year-old Cameroonian with the time and the opportunity to show the critics what he's made of. In a huge improvement since last season, currently, Siakam is averaging 15.0 points and 6.6 rebounds which is a significant upgrade since the 2017-18 season (7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds) and has helped the Raptors maintain their position as the number one team in the entire league. * All stats are mentioned as of 09/01/2019
  13. The trailer of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's upcoming movie 'Gully Boy' dropped yesterday and boy, did it surprise us all! If not the 'desi' Eminem, then you'd at least want to call Ranveer the biggest superstar Bollywood has right now. 14. What did you feel when 'Avengers: Infinity War' ended? Sadness? Emptiness? Well, it doesn't matter because Marvel is back to fill you with hope once again. One of the most anticipated trailers of the year is finally here. 'Avengers: ENDGAME.' Plug in your earphones, buy new headphones, buy a 4K TV damnit. But, you have to watch this right now!! (It's also available in Hindi, Tamil & Telugu. Scroll to the bottom for those versions.) We are at a loss for words. So, while we gather our thoughts and think of everything that just happened, here are a few things we noticed in the trailer: - Robert Downey Jr. knows how to own a scene. Even when he's talking to an empty helmet. He is absolutely brilliant. It's time to declare him a national treasure. No, an international treasure! - The music for this trailer will make you forget everything that's happened all day. It happened to us. It's going to happen to you. - The new animation for the Marvel logo just reminded us of the gut punch that was the ending of 'Avengers: Infinity War.' It also reminded us how great Marvel are at tying their movies with their logos. - Looking at Thanos' suit reminded us of a scarecrow. Does Thanos think he was the scarecrow for the universe? What does that even mean? We have no idea. But, does it really matter? We're just rambling here... - Got to mention that music once more. - Chris Evans with a tear running down his face? Made us cry. Made you too, right? - Thor looks so defeated. Where's the enthusiasm from 'Avengers: Infinity War?' - We even felt bad for Nebula. 15. For many years, the women's game toiled hard in obscurity and struggled to match the popularity or fanfare one generally associates with men's cricket. The worlds of men's and women's cricket shared a wide gap in pay structure, facilities and cash rewards. But, times are changing and the situation, which might not yet be ideal, has surely got better for women's cricket. Today, women cricketers have not only managed to carve their own niche, but their exploits on the field have made the game more popular among fans, who were earlier glued to men's events. And, adding to its rise over the years, women's cricket recently witnessed a major turning point in the form of its first standalone ICC World T20. For the first time, women's cricket got a showpiece ICC event that was not a precursor or filler for the men's tournament. © Twitter/@BCCI The tournament, which has already witnessed 14 games so far, has been full of exciting contests and commendable individual feats. In an event that is comprised of 10 teams, split evenly in two groups, India and Australia have undoubtedly emerged as favourites with three wins in as many games so far. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side got the better of New Zealand in their tournament opener, then thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan before booking their semifinals berth with a convincing win over Ireland. Thanks to their blistering form, India sealed their semis berth for only the third time (and first since 2010) in the history of the tournament. We're on our way to the semi-finals.. and it's time to back Team India to bring home the World Cup! #JerseyKnowsNoGenderðª I nominate @RishabPant777, @NSaina, @chetrisunil11 and all of you to join in. 16. The story of 'Soorma' has all the ingredients for a phenomenal movie. "Iss kahani mein sab hai, pyaar, drama, emotions, passion, pagalpan, ups and downs.” But despite all these elements, Shaad Ali's movie does not hit home and that's quite unfortunate. © SonyPictures Based on the inspiring tale of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh, Shaad Ali takes us through his emotional journey filled with struggles, that will leave you overwhelmed. From nurturing a dream of playing for India to getting grievously injured and then defying all odds with a strong comeback, is what Singh's saga is all about. There is something about biopics, especially those of sports icons, that makes you want to watch it. The hard work, blood, sweat and tears, and the emotional breakdowns make it an irresistible watch. A story of a sportsman is all about chasing your goals relentlessly with a burning passion, and in the case of Sandeep Singh, popularly known as Flicker Singh, it is about scoring goals for the country and winning. © SonyPictures Shaad Ali's choice to cast Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role is the winner. Diljit makes sure that you live Sandeep's journey with him through every frame, a quality that makes you invested in the story. We see his dreams and his passion through his eyes. We understand what hockey is for him and we witness the struggle. Be it trying to learn from the bully coach (Danish Hussain), who often beats the shit out of the young player, or him falling in love with Harpreet (Tapsee Pannu), a hockey player herself. We see his dreams getting shattered when he accidentally gets shot and paralysed from the waist down. Diljit takes you through a rollercoaster ride of pain and helplessness, which makes your heartache. © SonyPictures Diljit rules the screen-time as Singh. His own vibe mixed with that of Singh's transports you to the time when these moments took place. There is not a single moment where you lose sight of Diljit's talent. But making a biopic comes with its own hardships, especially when you pick a star player, whose story has ruled the news channels, made headlines and whose fall and an epic comeback was witnessed by the whole nation. It's all about making it dramatic (need of moviemaking) but not overdramatic (because no one likes it when unnecessary factors overpower an awe-inspiring story). But that's where the film loses its effect. © SonyPictures Shaad Ali's movie is likeable and enjoyable till pre-interval. You love the journey until you realise that Sandeep Singh's story deserves better....a lot better, because his tale is worth every penny. 'Soorma' is yet another movie with an excellent cast, a great story sans the maker's clear vision and execution. The story sails perfectly when we see him with his brother (Angad Bedi), who wants to play for India. But things go haywire and start falling apart when the makers focus on building his character as a hero- a legend, sweating it out on the field with a blaring score, a lot of tears and sobs, infused with unnecessary dance numbers. All of a sudden, the movie isn't about hockey or the player anymore, but turns into a melodramatic narrative, losing its original essence in one go. © SonyPictures The way the movie rolls out makes you wish that Ali would have given this script some more time and thought, and also a better perspective, which would have brought a great difference to the chronicle he is unfolding on the silver screen. After all, Singh's narrative isn't something you see every day. The impressive cast holds the fort and builds the aura even during the dull moments. Tapsee's raw emotions and screen presence stay with you. Bedi is incredible as the brother; Hussain is brilliant as a bully-coach who is feared. Vijay Raaz as a senior coach adds life to the biopic with some brilliantly written dialogues. © SonyPictures It is sad that despite having a talent like Diljit, the makers fail to harness the real potential of such a brilliant biopic and present us with a mediocre work, missing some major home goals.
  17. Ajay Devgn is one of those few actors who can easily slip into the skin of any character with ease and do justice to it. Be it an action-packed role, a romantic hero, a vigilante, someone fighting against the system or simply a funny character, the man can pull off anything and everything effortlessly. Last seen in 'Raid' as an honest Income Tax officer out for justice, Ajay's movie was a total entertainer based on a real-life incident. And now, the 'Shivaay' actor is all set to experiment with a new role and play the Indian legend Chanakya. For those who don't know who Chanakya is........man, what did you study in school? © T-Series Also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, Chanakya was one of the greatest thinkers in Indian history. He lived in 371 BC in India and authored the ancient Indian political treatise. He wrote some great books like the Chanakya Niti and the Arthshashtra. Nothing less than a legend, the man was a pioneer in the field of political science and economics in our country. His perspective and works are considered to be a precursor to classical economics. He was the think tank behind the making of the great king Chandragupta Maurya. If it wasn't for him, the Maurya dynasty would have never seen its glory. © Twitter The film will be directed by Neeraj Pandey, who has previously given us some phenomenal movies like 'A Wednesday', 'Baby' and 'Special 26'. Neeraj said in a press statement, “I have been developing this film on Chanakya for some time now. It is an exciting work of passion for me, and I am sure audiences will love Ajay's portrayal of the visionary genius.” The movie will revolve around the life and teachings of Chanakya. Talking about it, Devgn said, “I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I've followed Neeraj Pandey's work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion with which it needs to be told.” © Twitter He also tweeted, “Looking forward to playing #Chanakya, a film about one of the greatest thinkers in Indian History, directed by @neerajpofficial @RelianceEnt @FFW_Official @PlanC_Studios @ShitalBhatiaFFW.” Looking forward to playing #Chanakya, a film about one of the greatest thinkers in Indian History, directed by @neerajpofficial.@RelianceEnt @FFW_Official @PlanC_Studios @ShitalBhatiaFFW — Ajay Devgn (@ajaydevgn) July 11, 2018

  19. The year 2018 has not been up to a great start for Anil Kapoor, who was last seen in 'Race 3'. The movie that was slammed both by critics and audiences, was majorly overshadowed by the collective effort of the cast to drown the ship called 'Race 3' and Daisy Shah's iconic dialogue “Our business is our business, none of your business.” So we can't talk about his performance in particular. SKF However, his fans can rejoice because Anil Kapoor is back with a bang, in a movie that we all have been desperately waiting for – 'Fanney Khan'. Since the past two days, Anil Kapoor has been teasing us with posters from the film. “A dream in his eyes and a tune in his heart,” Kapoor wrote while sharing the poster. And if you add a story line that is based on Dominique Deruddere's 'Everybody's Famous!' you have the recipe for a dream project ready. And this teaser that just dropped on the internet, truly lived up to all the hype. Anil Kapoor as an aspiring artist trying to make it big in the field of music, honestly gave me 'Taal' vibes. The same 1999 movie, which had Aishwarya Rai in the lead. FYI it's not a sequel. T-Series Although the video was less than a minute, it was enough for us to mark the dates on the calendar. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays a famous singer who is dating Rajkummar Rao. Aishwarya looks as stunning as she did during her 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' days. Rajkummar Rao, in the 2 seconds screen-space he got, brought a smile on all those faces that were eagerly waiting for the teaser. Directed by Atul Manjrekar, 'Fanney Khan' will release on August 3, 2018.

  22. Rajkummar Rao is one of the most underrated actors in the country, but that hasn't stopped the man from carving his own niche in the industry. Working with the quiet brilliance of an underdog, Rajkummar has found himself in the league of class actors like Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. While 'Aligarh' and 'Shahid' established him as a brilliant actor, movies like 'Bareily Ki Barfi' proved he could pull off commercial roles with as much ease. At a time when the industry is full of stars and newcomers are pulling off lead roles in big budget films, how does an actor as brilliant as Rajkummar Rao deal with everyday disappointment and rejection – something that is always a part of an artist's life, no matter how big they are. © Instagram/Rajkummar Rao While speaking to Bombay Times, the actor said, “I love what I do. For me, a film set is the best place to be in. As long as I am acting, it doesn't matter whether I have faced rejection. I don't even think of it or talk about it, because I don't carry my past as a baggage. Neither am I futuristic; I don't think about where I will be five years from now. This is life. Yahaan sab kuch hota hai. Rejection is also a part of it.” Rejection is something we all have to deal with, no matter who we are. One could be a successful CEO, one could be an iconic Bollywood star – rejection knocks on everybody's door. And when it does, we have two options. We can either let it overpower us and all our decisions or we can choose to forget about it till it stops making a difference. Most of us do the former; and it's only human. But the day rejection and failure stop mattering to us is the day we truly begin our journey towards brilliance in whatever we do. The shadow of impending failure never lets you truly give your best to something you do. Likewise, the weight of past failures prevents us from going out there and taking life by the horns. As Rao says, “This is life. Yahaan sab kuch hota hai.”
  23. If you are like me, then you will start with a pen and a paper and start scribbling what you are going to do to accomplish a certain goal, which means you will make a plan. But as you know merely any plan is ever executed and so is the case with me and many others. There are very few of us who are actually able to get things done and they seem magical to us. ©Thinkstock Look at the life of an athlete; like how do they do it? How do they prepare for such exclusive competitions? And here we are unable to figure out the next few days of life and then suddenly realize that the time has gone by. The problem is our approach. Our approach consists of first planning and then executing. One cannot get to execution with a certain amount of planning. Now what? We start planning and spend half of our brain's energy into figuring out a perfect plan, but then execution merely happens. We don't just do it but spend most of our energy in planning and then that planning starts feeling like a burden we carry or distance we need to cover when we have not even started. ©thequotes The key is to start with a routine. Yes, that's how athletes do it. They follow a routine. Suppose you want to start a side hustle but till now you had been planning it all out, had some great idea in your mind but never made that first step or any progress in that direction. What if you started with one habit alone? You could choose to start attending networking events once a week and you would have taken your first step towards your goal. One task a week is easy and it gives you momentum and confidence to continue moving forward. This becomes your routine and slowly you can increase the number of things that you would want to add up to your routine. All of this you can start with writing down on a paper. Write the first task and include it in your routine and then just follow one easy task. If you have less space in your routine then you need to declutter and remove unnecessary things that are not helping you achieve your goal. It could be minimizing your social media time or including a diet that would keep you energized throughout the day. That's it. Now, you can try it for yourself. Photo:©Thinkstock(Main Image)
  24. Some of the best art comes from pain and suffering, and war films are a prime example of that. Documenting the courage, pain and misery of those involved in war, these films are a reminder of the havoc a single battle can cause. While we've all seen war classics like 'The Hurt Locker' or 'Inglourious Basterds', there are some equally brilliant short films on war that are totally worth watching. With IMDb ratings above 8, these films are short in duration but are as hard-hitting as any feature length film. 1. Prisoner of War IMDb rating: 9.0 Duration: 13 minutes Directed by Mathew R. Sanders, this short revolves around the story of an American prisoner who is subjected to an unrelenting enquiry by a sadistic interrogator. Prison can break the strongest of people and it remains to be seen how he holds up against the interrogator. 2. Night And Fog IMDb rating: 8.6 Duration: 29 minutes A French short film about the horrific death camps in Nazi Germany, 'Night and Fog' flits back and forth in time with shots of the camps from before and after the war. 3. Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge IMDb rating: 8.2 Duration: 24 minutes Based on the short story of the same name by Ambrose Bierce, this short film by Robert Enrico tells the story of a Southern civilian who is about to be hanged but the rope from which the execution is taking place breaks under his weight. The film, which has no dialogues, won an Oscar in 1963 for Best Live Action Short Film. 4. Way In Rye IMDb rating: 9.5 Duration: 28 minutes A short based during the German invasion of Soviet Russia, 'Way in Rye' tells the story of a farmer and his wife who are protecting invaluable paintings that once belonged to Lenin, from the German forces. 5. Shok IMDb rating: 8.2 Duration: 24 minutes Watch it here
  25. After braving violent protests of the Karni Sena, pleas to ban the movie across various states, and removing an 'I' to satisfy the anger of most fringe groups; Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus finally saw the light of day on January 25th as 'Padmaavat'. © viacom 18 motion pictures While the release of the movie was far from being a smooth sail, post-release days don't seem to be that great either, given the fresh controversies brewing each day. Recently, actress Swara Bhaskar also wrote an open letter to Bhansali, pointing out the depiction of 'Jauhar' in the movie; which got certain mixed reactions from the fraternity as well as the cast of the movie. Overall too, the fans and critics seem to be divided in their opinion about the movie. © viacom 18 motion pictures However, despite the endless controversies that Bhansali and his 'Padmaavat' find themselves in, one can't take away from the fact that this movie was indeed a visual treat and a spectacular account of courage, bravery, and valor of the Rajput community. Bhansali's movies majorly focus on grandeur, opulent sets and rich detailing and this movie too shone brightly in its full beauty. And in the 2 hours 40 minutes, if you couldn't figure out the time, effort and hard work that the entire cast and crew invested in the film, then you HAVE to check these pictures out. 'Padmaavat's' production designer recently shared a series of images from the film sets. Reportedly, the sets were designed and created by Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty. From designing royal palaces to the makeshift tents used for war scenes, these pictures speak volumes about Bhansali's extraordinary vision. While, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor brilliantly portrayed Goddess queen Padmavati and Maharawal Ratan Singh; it was Ranveer Singh who took home the cake with his portrayal of mad king Alauddin Khilji. And this picture is proof of the amount of hard work that has gone into the making of Ratan Singh and Khilji. © BCCL The film opened to a great response at the box office and has earned nearly Rs. 110 crore in the country and approximately Rs. 212 crore globally.
