  1. To quote one of the most questioned players to make it to the final Indian roster for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in Dinesh Karthik, “There will always be someone who will miss out. That's the nature of the game…”, and surely enough, with the total number of slots at 15 and over 25 supremely talented players competing for them, it is bound to happen that some players would miss out on the opportunity to represent their country in the biggest cricketing tournament there is. One of the best (or worst?) examples of such a case is that of the 21-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, who missed out on the opportunity to a veteran like Karthik, who's considered to bring greater stability and consistency to the already talent-laden squad. On the other hand is the curious case of the 33-year-old Ambati Rayudu who initially was brought up to the team as a batting all-rounder who'd fit perfectly in the two-down spot for the Men in Blue. However, with his questionable bowling action being rejected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and he batting form spiralling, the Guntur born had to be removed from the final team ahead of the World Cup. Unable to take the news like a good sportsman that he is, Rayudu took a sly shot at the selectors and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by tweeting this: Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup ðð.. — Ambati Rayudu (@RayuduAmbati) April 16, 2019 Losing his spot to Vijay Shankar, who made his ODI debut just a couple of months ago in January, Rayudu said that he's just ordered a pair of 3-D glasses to watch the World Cup. This was in reference to team selector MSK Prasad, who'd called Shankar a three-dimensional player. Responding to the tweet in support was yet another Indian cricketer who was put on the spot by the ICC for an objectionable bowling action and had to revamp the very essential part of his game, Pragyan Ojha. Curious case of some Hyderabadi cricketers... been in a similar situation... understand the winkâð¼ https://t.co/zLtAQIMvYn — Pragyan Prayas Ojha (@pragyanojha) April 16, 2019 “Curious case of some Hyderabadi cricketers... been in a similar situation... understand the wink”, tweeted the former Indian cricketer. Taking his own example after having missed out on the opportunity to play for his country in the 2015 World Cup, Ojha pointed out that being dropped from the team ahead of crucial games is evident for “some Hyderabadi cricketers”. However, his dig at the selectors did not sit well with the fans of Indian cricket: Isn't that why u were supporting him the day before selections? I hAvE gRoWn Up WiTh HiM. Pot calling Kettle black. Instead of whining over selections & talking nonsense filth to divide fans, support the ones who are selected, doesn't matter from which part of India they are from — Saurabh (@imsgshinde2) April 16, 2019 Aur ye Pragyan behati Ganga me haath dhote huye. — Ghenchebaaz (@MVBisht) April 16, 2019 Don't bring state into play.... He was given enough opportunity to perform. Though feel bad for him, but the call was justified on the back of past performance. — Gareeb Joker (@badoombaa) April 16, 2019 You wer dropd frm d team whn ther wer better spinners in d country. If it's a case of Hyderabadi cricketer, thn Laxman and Azruddin wouldnt hav played around 100 tests. Skill matters bhai which many others hav more than u guys. Raydu doesn't deserve a place in India A team also. — dryogeshpatel (@dryogiap) April 17, 2019 Hey Mr. Ojha, don't pull cricket into regional colors! — à¤à¥à¤à¥à¤¦à¤¾à¤° Aciditic Indian ð®ð³ ð®ð³ (@Aciditic_Indian) April 16, 2019
  2. Vivek Agnihotri's political drama 'Tashkent Files' starring Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty released today. The movie tries to find the answer to the reason behind the mysterious death of PM Lal Bahadur Shastri. The movie is not a commercial pot boiler but has garnered a lot of praise in the country and is also turning out to be a hit with the overseas audience. The public feels that besides being a greatly researched movie, it is also a good history lesson for all of us. #TashkentFiles is not just a film; it is lesson of history & it will teach us about our past. So it must be watched & if you have children who are studying then it must be watched as a chapter from history which we weren't taught. Kudos @vivekagnihotri — Chowkidar Avinash Choubey (@avinashchoubey) April 12, 2019 Just loved it!@vivekagnihotri You are nailing an entire section of people in politics and civil soceity. More strength to you. ððððð #tashkentfiles — Rajesh A. Singh (@PerlOPython) April 12, 2019 Got the opportunity to watch 'The Tashkent Files' last evening and I was mind blown! Hats off to @vivekagnihotri for bringing out facts about Lal Bahadur Shastri's murder that were deeply buried. The matrix he explained is an absolute eye opener. Must watch film for all! pic.twitter.com/bYNAOu83fq — Chowkidar Priti Gandhi (@MrsGandhi) April 12, 2019 We often forget the heroes who were not glorified for their contribution to the nation and this movie asks all the right questions. #TashkentFiles brilliant work done by the director and actors. With the Tashkent files director @vivekagnihotri have asked some serious questions. @shweta_official stands out in this well crafted movie. — Rajat singh (@rajat_since97) April 12, 2019 I had the privilege to watch #Tashkentfiles at the special screening here in Mumbai. It is a brave movie that strikes the right cords. It gives into the history that has been shot down by the "the family" and their Romilaisque cronies. Must Watch. Bravo @vivekagnihotri Sir ðð pic.twitter.com/SN7pr7FxzP — Chowkidar Dhaval Patel (@dhaval241086) April 12, 2019 Truth always has tentacles which never bow down Truth is like pure water which always finds its way out This weekend explore the truth which was hidden for decades The mystery behind the death of one of the Greatest PM's Shastriji Thanks you @vivekagnihotri #TashkentFiles — Vikas Raina #Chowkidar #KP4Modi (@rainavikas) April 12, 2019 While the movie was in murky waters with a lot of people blaming it for stirring unwanted political agendas, the 'aam admi' is hailing the work of the director and the actors for fighting through all of it and opening the minds of Indians. The #TashkentFiles releases 2day. It's an important film. If we even call it 1 of the most important films in our history, then too it won't be an exaggeration. It takes lot of courage 2 make a film like this & credit must go to Vivek Agnihotri. Please go & watch it. — Chowkidar hity (@hitykumar) April 12, 2019 In case this piques your interest as well, then you should do your homework, watch 'Tashkent Files' and form your opinion about the whether it is the only political drama that matters for now or not.
  3. India's Mission Shakti has become a huge topic of discussion over the past few days, and rightfully so. There has been a lot of banter surrounding it ever since PM Narendra Modi made the announcement. First, a former ISRO engineer called the mission a complete waste. It was followed by NASA administrator Bridenstine's comments, who didn't really seem happy about the mission. © Twitter Now the chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, has joined the discussion by calling out NASA's comments on the mission. Now, Anand Mahindra, in case you don't know, is very active on the micro-blogging site. He's also known to be very opinionated about all the current happenings. A case of the pot calling the kettle black. From a nation that created most of the debris in space over decades, this is an audacious statement.... https://t.co/QFqCnES2gt — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) April 2, 2019 In his tweet quoting NDTV, Anand defended Mission Shakti and called NASA's statement 'audacious'. “A case of the pot calling the kettle black. From a nation that created most of the debris in space over decades, this is an audacious statement,' he said. Anand's tweet is essentially a response to NASA chief Bridenstine's comments on the space debris. Earlier this month, Bridenstine said that India's move to destroy a defunct satellite a 'terrible thing' as it left 400 pieces in space. He also claimed that the debris has put the lives of astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) under massive risk.
  4. On 27th March, a missile fired during an anti-satellite missile test by India's Defense Research and Development Organization destroyed a satellite in space. PMO Narendra Modi even addressed the nation to declare India as a 'Spacepower'. The head of NASA, however, isn't particularly happy about it. In fact, the administrator Jim Bridenstine even called the test a “terrible, terrible thing”, while speaking at a livestreamed Town Hall gathering of NASA employees. Why, you ask? Well, it looks like the debris from the test are headed straight towards the International Space Station. The official press release from India's Ministry of External Affairs stated the test was carried out in the "lower atmosphere" to ensure that there were no space debris. But, apparently, 24 pieces from India's anti-satellite test are now heading towards the ISS. Bridenstine said “24 pieces are going above the apogee of the International Space Station. That is a terrible, terrible thing to create an event that sends debris at an apogee that goes above the International Space Station. That kind of activity is not compatible with the future of human spaceflight. It's unacceptable and NASA needs to be very clear about what its impact to us is.” © ISRO The US military, in case you didn't know, tracks the objects in space to predict the collision risk for the ISS and for satellites. Over 23,000 objects are being tracked currently, out of which 10,000 pieces are of space debris. Nearly 3,000 of them were created by Chinese anti-satellite test in 2007. Yes, 24 pieces from India' anti-satellite test sounds like a small number compared to 3,000 created by the Chinese event, but Bridenstine noted that India's test has increased the risk of collision with the ISS by 44 percent over 10 days putting the lives of the astronauts in the ISS in serious danger. Of course, the risk will dissipate over time as much of the debris will burn up as it enters the atmosphere, but we'll have to wait for more updates on the same. Also, this isn't the first time someone has called out India's anti-satellite mission. Last week, a former ISRO engineer also said that Mission Shakti is a complete waste.
  5. Accused of corruption and spot-fixing in an internal inquiry held by BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit led by Ravi Sawani, during the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013, S Sreesanth gets partial relief from the Supreme Court, that slashed the life ban imposed on the Kerala-born cricketer while urging the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to revisit the punishment for his alleged crimes. A similar verdict was made public back in 2017 when a single-benched Kerala High Court which was spearheaded by Justice A Muhamed Mustaque, removed the BCCI-led lifetime ban on the pacer's cricketing career. However, the decision was reversed within two months as a division bench of the high court restored the life sentence following the Indian cricket board's appeal against Justice Mustaque's verdict. Now, after years of relentless appeals made by the cricketer to the Indian judicial system to override the Board's “completely unfair” punishment, the Supreme Court may have given him a second chance to make good of his career as an Indian cricketer. Having said that, the highest court of the country didn't fail to mention that they did not question the efforts put in by BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit nor did it challenge the authenticity of the findings made by the committee towards Sreesanth's guilt. "In the context of facts and manner in which these things have happened, this court should consider that it (life ban on Sreesanth by BCCI) is unfair. He has suffered for the last five-six years. People want him to play cricket. He was extremely loyal to BCCI," Sreesanth's lawyer and senior advocate Salman Khurshid, appealed to the bench. With Supreme Court providing the cricketer with a green chit to rejuvenate his cricketing career, the ball is in the BCCI's court. Having won the World Cup with the Indian cricket team in 2011, Sreesanth has often expressed his desire to officially return to the field. At 35 years of age, he even promised to give the youngsters a run for their money if the Board lifted the ban.
  6. President Donald Trump and Apple CEO Tim Cook were all over the news last week when Trump mistakenly referred to Apple CEO as 'Tim Apple' instead of 'Tim Cook'. Heck, Tim Cook even changed his display name on Twitter following the flub as a response. But Trump, on the other hand, claims the media were spreading “fake news” when they said he called him 'Tim Apple'. © Reuters The Republican donors present at the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, when Trump made the claim, called it's one of his weirdest lies ever. Apparently, Trump told the donors that he actually said “Tim Cook Apple” really fast, and the “Cook” part of the sentence was softly spoken. Wait, what? Yes, the GIF accurately represents how we feel after reading what Trump had to say. We couldn't understand why the president would make such a claim in the first place, especially when the whole thing was captured on video. Here's the clip in case you needed to hear it again: Trump just called Apple CEO Tim Cook “Tim Apple” pic.twitter.com/gTHHtjWvc9 — Sean O'Kane (@sokane1) March 6, 2019 Not just that, even Tim Cook himself doesn't seem to be bothered about the flub. He, in fact, took it in a good humor by changing his display name. The donors who were present at the scene told Axios they couldn't understand why the president would make such a claim. “I just thought, why would you lie about that. It doesn't even matter!”, said one of the donors. This, however, isn't the first time Trump has tried to persuade the people. He did something similar back in 2017, when he called a New York Times report fake as well. So, we aren't particularly surprised this time around.
  7. You remember the English wicket keeper-batsman Ben Duckett, right? No? Well, we don't blame you. He used to play for the main English roster all the way back in 2016, before they became really, really good and one of the top contenders for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. However, the lefty has been sent to their second-tier level team called 'England Lions' that recently lost to India's second-tier squad 'India A' in the One-dayers and unofficial Test series at the latter's soil. While the southpaw did have a brilliant 50-run innings during the second unofficial Test in Mysore, he would be better known to the Indian cricket fans as 'the guy who tried to troll Virat Kohli'. Even after the Indian captain bagged his career's 40th ODI in Ranchi, the Men in Blue lost to a rejuvenated Australian cricket team who took a breath of fresh air and have been dominating ever since (checkout Australia's exceptional run-chase in the fourth ODI at Mohali). Post the defeat, a cricket-enthu Twitter account trivially asked a fill in the blank question: Complete the sentence. Virat Kohli is _______________ — Cricket Shouts (@crickshouts) March 8, 2019 While the question got a lot of positive reactions like calling his “annoyingly good” and “a batsman even better than Sachin Tendulkar”, there was one particular response that was put under that spotlight. Ben Duckett's response: A joke?.............................. https://t.co/APryZGy3lf — Ben Duckett (@BenDuckett1) March 8, 2019 Apparently, Duckett called Virat Kohli “a joke” in order to show his regards towards the genius of the batsman, maybe somethings in the lines of 'he is a joke to the ODI format because he is that good', but the Viratians weren't buying it. It is plausible that as soon as the Englishman tweeted, he regretted his decision as he was hit by a barrage of raging Indian fans who called him out. Get ready for yet another episode of abusements. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 8, 2019 pic.twitter.com/7LyJnVFM5z — Scorpio (@IND_Scorpio) March 9, 2019 Virat Kohli is you fatherð — itz_me_wahed (@Waheduzzaman15) March 9, 2019 Ben duckett pic.twitter.com/wyJYFlPsdu — Shreyas (@DeaconSG97) March 9, 2019 Do you even play cricket anymore Ben?ðððð — Daniel Clark (@DanClincs) March 9, 2019 Hey Ben , not talking about your career here — Ishan Mishrað®ð³ (@ishan31396) March 9, 2019 After watching a former teammate take in so much heat, Ben Stokes (https://www.mensxp.com/sports/cricket/39889-ben-stokes-brawl-why-england-s-bad-boy-needs-a-role-model-to-be-actually-be-one-for-his-fans.html) sent in a friendly word of advice: ð¤¦‍âï¸ð¤¦‍âï¸ð¤¦‍âï¸ð¤¦‍âï¸ why? 8. Donald Trump and Tim Cook have been making headlines all day today for a hilarious reason. During a conference at the White House, the US President accidentally referred to Apple's CEO as 'Tim Apple', instead or Mr. Tim Cook. ... here's the president of the united states calling tim cook, ceo of apple, "tim apple." pic.twitter.com/RTc45RFm5e — fake nick ramsey (@nick_ramsey) March 6, 2019 Goes without saying that it soon became a meme and social media is having a field day joking about it. 9. Well, it looks like we are going back to the good old days when 'The Game' Triple H and 'The Animal' Batista used to bring up jam-packed WWE Arenas to their feet with brilliant storytelling and botch-less in-ring performances. As a part of 'Evolution' - a four-men superteam involving the best talents across different eras of the WWE like the 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, Triple H, Batista and 'The Viper' Randy Orton - the four stars used to derive huge reactions from the WWE Universe on a weekly basis. Even after the team broke off, every member went on to save 'Hall of Fame' worthy careers. After a decade, Evolution was expected to reunite last week on RAW to celebrate Flair's 70th birthday. While Triple H, along with the entire WWE roster were present around the stage with a huge birthday cake inside the ring, the Jumbotron turned on and it was Batista assaulting Flair. “Hey, Hunter… Do I have your attention now?” barked Batista as he dragged the 70-year-old on the floor. According to several reports, Batista was scheduled to make an appearance on last night's episode of RAW but did not just because of the fact that he did not like Philadelphia. After Batista's video played on the jumbotron, Triple H cut a solo promo addressing what went down last week. After a small recap of how deep his friendship with Ric Flair was and how unhappy he was, not being able to celebrate the birthday that Ric Flair more than deserved, Hunter went on a killer rampage on how Dave Bautista had cried online for more than two years. Triple H spoke about how Batista quit on the WWE and the WWE Universe when he was unable to get a reaction out of the wrestling fans and how frustrating it was for him to see his wrestling career fall apart in front of his eyes. Offering Batista an open challenge, a very angry Triple H yelled: “Stand up to me, tell me what you want and I will give you everything that you want. You want my attention? Dave, you've got it,” before storming out of the ring. It is evident where all of this is headed. With less than a month left for the 35th anniversary of Wrestlemania, an epic matchup between two of the best talents of the business is shaping up. Probably a 'No Holds Barred', probably a 'Backstage Brawl', whatever it turns out to be, we are in for a wrestling treat!
  10. Amidst the building uncertainties around an impending possibility of war between India and Pakistan, as well as growing political-military pressure owing to India's stern action against Pakistan's indolence towards terrorism breeding on their home ground, the situation has now gone even murkier with IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman being held in Pakistan's captivity. After India's early morning airstrike on three terror camps located in Pakistan and PoK on 26th February, which eliminated the terrorist camps in Balakot, Muzaffarabad and Chakothi, Pakistan retaliated yesterday with aerial combat by trespassing and infiltrating the LoC. Wing Commander Abhinandan had been one of the officers who was facing Pakistan's onslaught and defending the country, when his aircraft was attacked, and he crash landed across the LoC. #WATCH Raveesh Kumar, MEA: One Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by Indian Air Force. In this engagement, we have lost one MiG 21. Pilot is missing in action. Pakistan claims he is in their custody. We are ascertaining the facts. pic.twitter.com/Bm0nVChuzF — ANI (@ANI) February 27, 2019 Soon after, a video showing a bloodied officer surfaced on social media, wherein the person stated that he was Wing Commander Abhinandan and his service number was 27981. Following this, in an official media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar confirmed the infiltration and also that a MiG 21 aircraft was lost during the engagement and that the pilot was missing in action. Later, another video showed that the Indian pilot's wounds had been treated and he was heard saying that the Pakistani army officers were “thorough gentlemen” and are looking after him well. However, that did little to bring a calm over the nation's shared anxiety over the officer's captivity. Social media immediately exploded with demands for the quick and safe return of Abhinandan, and #BringBackAbhinandan hashtag began to trend. Read what people from all over the country are saying: I'm getting calls from well meaning friends saying that let the savarna men argue it out...a Muslim name should keep low. That too a woman. 11. A cricket fan or not, almost every Indian knows the significance of the year 1983 when it comes to the world of cricket. The year marked Team India's 1983 World Cup win and no Indian can forget the moment when legend Kapil Dev lifted India's first ever cricket World Cup trophy at the Lord's stadium! © Twitter Now with Kapil Dev's biopic in the pipeline, cricket and Bollywood fans can look forward together to witnessing that moment being recreated on the silver screen by Ranveer Singh in '83'. Based on the life of former Indian captain Kapil Dev, '83 has been garnering a lot of momentum ever since its date of release was announced earlier this month. With Ranveer set to star in his first ever biopic, which will release in 2020, the 'Gully Boy' actor recently shared his excitement about playing Kapil Dev on-screen. He shared that he wants to absorb as much as possible from Kapil Dev to do justice to his character. © Twitter Ranveer is currently looking forward to spending time with Kapil Dev in order to get into the skin of his character. It is also reported that Ranveer will be taking cricketing tips from Kapil Dev himself and will try to gain some depth and perspective from the cricketer. © Instagram As per latest reports, Ranveer considers Kapil Dev's achievements as extraordinary. He even added that Kapil Dev is the quintessential underdog who made it with his perseverance, hard work, and positive mindset. He exclaimed that he is extremely inspired by the former captain of the Indian cricket team and wants to give his best in bringing Kapil Dev to life on-screen.
  13. If someday, the important people at the International Cricket Council (ICC) do decide to name the Decision Review System (DRS) after a player, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's name would be the number one recommendation on their list. Ever since the concept of challenging the umpire's call was actualised in cricket, MS Dhoni has used it to the greatest advantage of whatever team he has played for, be it the Indian cricket team or the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Here are the top 5 moments where Dhoni proved his genius: 1. LBW Call Against Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq - Asia Cup 2018 (23/09/2018) During the Asia Cup 2018 Super Four matchup between India and Pakistan, when spinner Yuzvendra Chahal tricked Pakistani opener Imam-ul-Haq for a leg-before, the umpire seemed uninterested in the bowler's appeal. Dhoni instantly nodded at the then captain Rohit Sharma for a review to which Sharma instantly agreed. pic.twitter.com/47H8ktlOPf — CricBoll (@mycricboll) September 23, 2018 As the third umpire took a closer look, it was evident that the ball was pitched in-line, made an impact in-line and was, in fact, hitting the wickets. The next thing you know is the umpire reversing his decision and raising his finger in favour of the keeper's call. 2. Challenging LBW Call Against England - 3rd ODI At Headingley Stadium, Leeds (17/07/2018) After losing the toss, Virat Kohli's side was forced to bat first. With the half of the team wrapped up at 158 runs, it was Dhoni's turn to take the crease. After spinner Adil Rashid sent the skipper and Suresh Raina packing in the 31st over, it was Moeen Ali's turn to shock Dhoni with a beauty in the 32nd for an LBW appeal. As soon as the umpire agreed to Ali's call, Dhoni went for the DRS. The same crowd cheered after DRS(Dhoni review system), who had jeered him at Lord's. Finisher in need is DHONI indeed.#HypocriticalLove #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/9HoVBaBqMI — The Accidental Journalist (@joBless_God) July 17, 2018 While the ball was pitched at the right place and landed in-line too, the genius of Dhoni quickly led him to calculate that it has bounced too high and would miss the stumps by a lot. And that was exactly what had happened. 3. Eoin Morgan's Caught Behind Vs England - 1st ODI At MCA Stadium, Pune (15/01/2017) After winning the toss, India decided to bowl first and thanks for some brilliant performances by Englishmen Joe Root, Jason Roy and Ben Stokes, England was able to establish a huge total of 350 runs. Believe it or not, it could have been worse if MS Dhoni had not called for a review on this catch on a Hardik Pandya delivery against the skipper Eoin Morgan. MS Dhoni gets the DRS call Bang on! https://t.co/b181Dg9xp0 — Aditya Pandey (@adityapandey148) January 24, 2019 While on Pandya's appeal after Dhoni's excellent catch, the umpire immediately said “no”, Dhoni was certain that Morgan had to go. As soon as the keeper called for a review, Kohli obliged and the review went upstairs. With audio-inspection and slow motion, the third umpire was finally able to see what Dhoni saw with his naked eyes asked Morgan to go back to the locker room. 4. Saving Yuvraj Singh Vs England At Barabati Stadium, Cuttack (19/01/2017) One of the best Indian partnerships could have been missed out on if it wasn't for Dhoni's supernatural vision. During the second ODI match between India and England early in 2017, Yuvraj Singh was asked to go on a caught behind decision by the umpire. Everyone on the field, including Yuvraj Singh himself, believed that he was out but Dhoni asked for a review even before the umpire made up his mind in favour of the bowler. Decision Review System or Dhoni review system? https://t.co/hy8A2YXCgF — Aditya Pandey (@adityapandey148) January 24, 2019 Upon checking out the footage in slow motion, it was seen that after the ball touch Singh's bat, it went on to bounce once before keeper Jos Buttler caught it. Once the umpire reversed his decision, Singh went on to score 150 while Dhoni scored 134. 5. Chris Lynn's Catch At Slip - CSK Vs KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata (03/05/2018) In the first over the innings, when Lungi Ngidi appealed for KKR opener Chris Lynn's catch at slip, the umpire believed that the ball had only touched the pad and Lynn was therefore not out. More or less, everyone was convinced with the decision, everyone but Dhoni, who decided to go for it nonetheless. Dhoni review system on point https://t.co/HtWejye8HB via @ipl — Aditya Pandey (@adityapandey148) January 24, 2019 The bat had just scratched the surface of the ball with an almost inaudible nick which somehow Dhoni heard. Call it sixth-sense of good luck, but what is evident is that no one is better than Dhoni when it comes to following their instinct which has often led to his reviews being on point.
  14. This weekend is fully packed with drama biopics on two of India's very powerful figures. Bal Thackeray and Rani of Jhansi, who changed the face of India's history in their own ways. So today has become extra special when Bollywood biopics of these two personalities have hit the theatres across the country. 'Thackeray' and 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' released earlier today, and people have been queuing up outside movie halls, to watch both the films with equal enthusiasm. Though the tizzy surrounding 'Thackeray' in Mumbai cannot be replicated elsewhere, yet movie-goers from around the country have some real good things to say about the film, and especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui's performance in the film! View this post on Instagram His story is the History of Maharashtra!ð© @rauters_entertainment #ComingSoon #StayTuned #23rdJan2019 #RautersEntertainment #ThackeraytheFilm #HinduHridaySamra #TigerofMaharashtra A post shared by Thackeray The Film (@thackeraythefilm) on Aug 5, 2018 at 10:34am PDT Nawazuddin Siddiqui is essaying the titular role in the bilingual film that has been directed by Abhijit Panse, and is based on the life and times of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. The film also stars Amrita Rao in a pivotal role of Meena Tai Thackeray, opposite Nawazuddin. The film fraternity can't stop praising the movie and Siddiqui's performance, as they took to Twitter to gush about the movie. Can @Nawazuddin_S not do anything? So as per the initial verdict on Twitter, the audience has declared that the movie has proven to be a gripping tale about the Shiv Sena chief, though it is Nawazuddin's marvellous performance that has brought Thackeray alive on screen. A movie-goer even went on to claim that if acting was a religion, Nawazuddin was god. That's a huge thing to say, isn't it? Here's what others have to say about the film. #Thackeray REVIEW: 1. #NawazuddinSiddiqui shines in this one. You will like the movie mostly because of him. 2. 15. It's yet another Friday, and while we are already prepping for the weekend that is rolling in with every passing minute, our plans to kickstart the weekend are already in place. With two most awaited (albeit shrouded in controversies) movies 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' and 'Thackeray' hitting the theatres today, the most eventful plan would be to leave work early and hit the cinema hall. Which can always be followed up with good food and wine later, right? However, from what we gathered so far, movie-goers are in absolute awe of Kangana's portrayal of this powerful historical figure, while some have even claimed that this film will be Kangana's crowning glory and lead her to win a National Award. Ankita Lokhande, who makes her Bollywood debut with this film, and will be seen portraying the role of Jhalkari Bai, has also caught people's attention with her performance. The audience has especially appreciated the screenplay and action sequence of the film, though some have also pointed out that the rising action of the film is slow to start in the first half of the film. With a killer story, stellar direction and performances from the likes of Suresh Oberoi, Atul Kulkarni, Danny Denzongpa and Jisshu Sengupta in key roles, this one indeed seems like a blockbuster in the making. #ManikarnikaReview One can't refrain oneself from praising the lead lady #KanganaRanaut, She is nailing her role with perfection. 16. One of the greatest sportspersons of all time, Usain Bolt will always be remembered for his astronomical achievements in the world of athletics. The Jamaican sprint king won multiple Olympic gold medals in London, Beijing and Rio to etch his name in the history books and create a legacy that is unlikely to be overhauled anytime soon. Thus, when Bolt announced his retirement as a sprinter, his fans, in every corner of the world, were undoubtedly overwhelmed by emotions as one of the greatest ever quietly walked into the shadows. But, then came a surprise. More of a joke, at first, which eventually turned out be more of a gimmick. But, Bolt thought otherwise. In fact, he began training with German club Borussia Dortmund before moving to Norwegian side Stromsgodset. But, his best opportunity came with the Central Coast Mariners of Australia's A-League. Appearing in friendlies with the club, Bolt scored a brace in a match in October last year which also earned him an opportunity to sign a contract with the team. After Usain Bolt announced his 'sports life is over', a look back at his first ever goal in football pic.twitter.com/kgKEXXFsf8 — Indy Football (@IndyFootball) January 23, 2019 However, the two parties couldn't come to an agreement on compensation as the club failed to find commercial backing to finance Bolt's desired wages. As a result, the Mariners and the 32-year-old star agreed to mutually terminate the trial in early November last year. An offer came from Maltese side Valletta last October, but they couldn't convince the sprint king to join them. Ultimately, unable to find suitors, Bolt has now decided to end his dream of becoming a professional footballer, calling time on his, supposedly, football career. "It was a good experience. I really enjoyed just being in a team and it was different from track and field and it was fun while it lasted,” Bolt said. But, with all due respect to the star athlete, did Bolt's football career ever really begin? Well, that was the question everyone was asking on the social media following his latest announcement. 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' and 'The Accidental Prime Minister' have hit the cinema screens across the country today, and enthusiastic movie-goers have been queuing up outside cinema halls since early morning. © RSVP Movies Certainly, as per the recent norms, Twitter has been kind enough to bombard other interested film enthusiasts with their personal reviews. We decided to do a round up of the initial Twitter verdict on Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam and Paresh Rawal starrer 'Uri', based on what Twitter users have to say about it. For the uninitiated, 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' is based on the surgical attacks of 2016. The plot sheds light on the numerous terrorist attacks that took place on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC), which eventually prompted the government to plan the surgical strikes. © RSVP Movies Vicky plays the role of Major Vihaan Shergill, Paresh Rawal will be seen as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, while Yami Gautam will portray the role of an intelligence officer. As per the initial reviews surfacing on Twitter, the general verdict is that the movie manages to recreate the incidents leading up to the surgical strikes, while the characters stay true to their character and don't go overboard volleying around their emotional baggage. The audience has appreciated the movie's screenplay, and vouched for its patriotism instilling storytelling and well-executed combat scenes. 20. The anticipation and hype around Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gully Boy' has been insane ever since the first posters came out! But more recently with the release of the teaser, and the glimpse it gave of the rising rap-star played by Ranveer, the movie has taken the entire nation by storm! 'Asli Hip Hop' has made its way to every rap and hip-hop music-lover's heart, and fans simply can't keep calm for the trailer to come out tomorrow. View this post on Instagram #GullyBoyTrailer out tomorrow . @ritesh_sid @zoieakhtar @faroutakhtar @excelmovies #TigerBaby @aliaabhatt @zeemusiccompany A post shared by Ranveer Singh (@ranveersingh) on Jan 7, 2019 at 9:08pm PST However, amidst all this hullabaloo Twitter seems to have traced another side to the story and that is the striking amount of similarities the 'Gully Boy' teaser has with Eminem's 2002 semi-biopic '8 Mile'. Yes, you read that just right. And if you hadn't made the connections thus far, we suggest you check out the teaser once more, and do a basic Google search for '8 Mile' and we bet the connections will leave you as shook! Multiple frames, right from Ranveer hyping up the crowd during a stage performance, to the hoodie-wearing swagger through a dimly-lit, shady part of town, the scenes scream '8 Mile' on multiple occasions! © Twitter Twitter has declared that 'Gully Boy' might just be the desi rip-off of '8 Mile' and here is how they expressed their opinions on the platform. I see a lot of 8 Mile. Anyone with me? #GullyBoy #NoOffense — Neelargho Ray (@neelarbro) January 4, 2019 As exciting and raw as #GullyBoy looks, I'm really hoping the makers are true to the 'street' aesthetic that @VivianDivine and @NaezyTheBaA represent. Last thing I want to see is a glorified 8 Mile rip-off where Detroit is replaced with Dharavi to please the masses. — Jackie J. Thakkar (@Juvenile_Jack) January 4, 2019 Yeah the mirror scene is def inspired from 8 mile but still I stand my ground man. For it to be promoted as a homage to 8 mile, it should be a remake or fully inspired by it and I'm sure Gullyboy's world is different than 8 mile's. — Mister Sinister (@flyman0017) January 8, 2019 Watched the trailer for #GullyBoy and @RanveerOfficial reminded me of @Eminem in 8 Mile ð§ .. 21. Imagine you are at a family gathering and your parents introduce you to someone you don't know. You neither know their name nor their age, so you 'not-so-innocently' address them as aunty or uncle. What follows soon is a 5-minute long awkward silence before either of you move out of the room. Yes, we've all been there and so has Union Minister Smriti Irani. Balaji Telefilms The 42-year-old former television actor and now Union Textile Minister is younger than Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kajol and Sushmita Sen and a lot of other actors. Yet, she had a brutal realisation recently when she met young Janhvi Kapoor at the airport, and got called the one word a lot of women dread- 'aunty'. Calling it 'the someone shoot me' moment, Smriti Irani even posted about the same on social media and we guess it's time to accept the fact that 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi' is ancient now. While Irani has a smile on her face, we all can see that this moment is not going to sink in anytime soon for her.
  22. In-flight WiFi isn't a new concept, it has been available on numerous foreign airlines for years. But, these airlines were forced to turn-off connectivity services when in Indian airspace because our local laws do not permit usage of wireless services while flying. This is about to change and you will be able to make calls as well as access the internet during air travel and ship voyage within Indian territory thanks to the introduction of Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules, 2018. The rules to allow in-flight calling and internet surfing in the Indian airspace could come as early as January, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha has hinted. © Virgin Australia The Telecom Ministry has asked the Law Ministry to provide its inputs on in-flight connectivity rules, thereafter the rules are expected to pass through at a rapid pace. This year, the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) had submitted recommendations on drafting the policy and the DoT (Department of Telecommunication) has promptly passed the proposal. The services will have to be provided by a valid telecom licence holder in India and usage of satellites will be permitted by the Department of Space. The services can be toggled on once the aircraft attains a minimum height of 3,000 metres to avoid radio interference with ground networks. © Reuters In October, SpiceJet had already announced it'll be the first Indian airline to offer in-flight WiFi since its Boeing 737 Max8 aircraft are already equipped with connectivity systems. The airline has also secured a service provider and is simply waiting for the governing policies to go live. When the DoT cleared TRAI's recommendations, premium airline Vistara and flag-bearer Air India were among the first to welcome the policy. While the latter has been struggling with debt and operational losses, it wouldn't surprise us to see Vistara offer in-flight WiFi soon considering its target customer is a business traveller. © YouTube / The dome on a SpiceJet 737 Max8 that enables connectivity Don't expect 4G LTE equivalent speeds though. In-flight connectivity is extremely tricky since these systems depend on ground-based transmitters, which means they only work overland. And, the ground-based systems have limited bandwidth and equipment onboard the aircraft have a long life-span of five to ten years. Hence, carrying out upgrades and providing speeds is outrageously expensive. Many airlines like Jet Airways, Vistara, and SpiceJet are currently offering in-flight entertainment or streaming via WiFi thanks to locally fitted networks inside the aircraft. A system locally stores the content, which is then streamed via WiFi to your device. This removes the need for individual displays for every seat while the passenger has more comfort. 23. 'Bigg Boss 12' is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining and controversial reality shows on the Indian television right now. Just when we think that there's nothing that can surprise us anymore, the inmates come around and prove us wrong. He started out with how he was selected in Preity Zinta's Kings XI Punjab and Harbhajan was shortlisted by Mumbai Indians for the IPL. After Mumbai Indians lost the match, Sreesanth went to wish him 'hard luck' and Harbhajan then hit him with the back of his hand that cannot be considered a slap. #BiggBoss12 ke ghar mein pehli baar, famous cricketer @sreesanth36 ne kiya ek hairatangez khulaasa! Bhajji didn't like it as he got defeated at his home ground. It was a volcanic eruption. I was angry in the beginning but then I cried because I felt helpless." After sharing his side of the story, he further said that he respects Harbhajan and considers him like his elder brother and that there was nothing between them. He concluded the conversation saying that he loves him and his family and gets equal amount of love in return. Thanks to Sreesanth and his shocking revelation about the 2008 Slapgate controversy, Surbhi won an extra point.
  24. Fact-checking and double checking is very important and looks like a Bengali text publisher learnt that the hard way. Even if the mistake seems quite obvious, sometimes they aren't rectified, and the result is very, very expensive. So, what was the costly mistake of the day? A Bengali textbook put a picture of Farhan Akhtar portraying Milkha Singh in the hit movie 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' instead of the real 'Flying Sikh'. Ouch, that's one bad mistake, it's almost disrespectful. I mean, Milkha Singh has represented the country all over the world and this is how he gets thanked? That's not cool. image of @FarOutAkhtar is portrayed as milkha singh in west bengal text book. not at all shocked. its became regular incident here @ShefVaidya @ShankhNaad pic.twitter.com/xWfIqtgTWf — Lyfe Ghosh (@Lyfeghosh) August 18, 2018 Soon, this tweet came to Farhan Akhtar's notice and he quickly decided to make sure the 'glaring error' in the book was brought to the publisher's notice and it should be corrected and replaced soon. To the Minister of School Education, West Bengal. There is a glaring error with the image used in one of the school text books to depict Milkha Singh-ji. Could you please request the publisher to recall and replace this book? Sincerely. @derekobrienmp https://t.co/RV2D3gV5bd — Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) August 19, 2018 He also tagged TMC spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dereck O' Brien for good measure, and it paid off since he immediately got a reply. Appreciate your response. Tagged you since you take education very seriously. — Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) August 19, 2018 This is a valid point. Completely agree with you. No thorough review before the text goes to print ? Are we playing with the education of the future generations ? There's no point winning this game. — abhishek mantri (@mantri_abhi) August 19, 2018 Probably. Lol. You played the role so convincingly @FarOutAkhtar that you ended up in text books as Milkha Singh!! — Aisha Sheikh (@Aish61) August 19, 2018 Don't know if we should laugh or be shocked. This is comedy. Dark comedy. Satirical dark comedy. At first I laughed so hard.. Then I gave it some serious thought.. 25. Arguably one of the biggest names in Indian cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues to garner praise for his brilliance on the field and gets criticised every time he fails to live up to the expectations of a billion fans. Such is India's obsession with the Jharkhand cricketer that no matter what he does - both on and off the field, it becomes a subject of public interest. A calm and cool campaigner who rarely allows his emotions to get the better of him, Dhoni is quite a private person in his life away from the playing field. While his teammates are often seen glued to their gadgets, Dhoni has often been accused of staying away from mobile phones. © BCCL In fact, there have been a lot of cricketers who've claimed in the past that it is hard to get in touch with Dhoni on the phone. Clearing the air for the very first time, the former Indian captain revealed: "Me and technology, there is a big divide. I don't use phones so much and there are lot of stories I don't pick up phones". "But I do use technology as well. When I am shown some videos, you wonder if I am playing it right. Technology has to be used in right way," the 37-year-old cricketer said. © BCCL Dhoni's reluctance to use technology was one of the main reasons why he was missing from VVS Laxman's retirement bash in 2012 which further raised questions on the rapport the two cricketers shared. "You think it's a controversy but people who know me always complained that I'm someone who is quite difficult to get hold of. That was one of the reasons why Laxmanbhai could not get hold of me," Dhoni claimed. "That's not something new. I have tried to improve but it seems I have not really improved," he added. Dhoni was part of the Indian side that defeated England 2-1 in the T20I series before suffering a loss in the ODIs. While his teammates are busy preparing for the second Test at Lord's, Dhoni will be seen in action during the 2018 Asia Cup which is slated to begin from 15th September in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
