  1. The (virtual) world of grumpiness lost a bit of its charm today with the passing away of the internet's most catty feline 'Grumpy Cat'. Known to be the face of grumpiness for the online community of 'Republic of Grumpyland', the internet pet sensation became the face of countless (and most apt) memes during her lifetime. © Twitter Grumpy Cat's family took to Twitter hours ago to share the news of her passing away, and tributes have been pouring in in large numbers from the netizens, who had found the perfect stand-in and global representative to express their deepest emotions publicly. Some days are grumpier than others... pic.twitter.com/ws209VWl97 — Grumpy Cat (@RealGrumpyCat) May 17, 2019 Earlier this month, Grumpy contacted a urinary tract infection which proved to be fatal for the feline. “She passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha,” the family wrote in the tweet. This past week really has sucked. Rest in peace you amazing feline, you will be missed. — Ross O'Donovan (@RubberNinja) May 17, 2019 Those who have met her, consider themselves lucky. RIP grumpy cat. I was lucky to meet you in London. pic.twitter.com/T3wZCM1UZS — Mattie (@MattieStar26) May 17, 2019 People remember her for all the happiness they added to their lives. You brought so much joy into so many lives... rest in peace Grumpy Cat. — That's Ms. Hath No Fury to you, thanks (@hburgur) May 17, 2019 Originally named Tardar Sauce by her family, Grumpy Cat helped millions break into a smile courtesy her resting grouchy-face and the hilarious texts that always seemed more funny and related when kept next to her face. Here are a few awesome memes in memory of the late Grumpy Cat. 1. Pessimist, what's that? © Twitter 2. Got the message? © Twitter 3. My name is Social. Anti-Social. © Twitter 4. Oh, brother. © Twitter 5. We all know those people. © Twitter RIP, Grumpy.
  2. The internet was originally made to just share cat pictures and memes, true story, so it's obvious that any cat can outshine anyone and anything. That's exactly what happened in 'Captain Marvel' as well. Yes, Brie Larson was great as the most powerful superhero in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe but people thought that there was another hero in the movie that even Captain Marvel couldn't match up to - Goose the cat! Yep, the adorable little kitty not only distracted Nick Fury as we saw in the trailers but us as well when we watched the movie. The number of people just talking about Goose after watching the movie is insane, I don't think anyone is even talking about Brie Larson that much. Sorry Brie, you're awesome but even you can't compete with a cat. Spoiler ahead, just FYI. Ever since Goose came on-screen, it was just an unassuming cat who ended up going to space with Nick Fury and Carol Danvers. But, then the tentacles came out. Yes, Goose was an alien, more specifically a Flerken that has tentacles that can swallow several people whole and save Nick Fury's life. So, this is what people were talking about when they said Goose is a scene-stealer. confirmed. goose will defeat thanos. pic.twitter.com/DZPAAfmYb5 — captain* (@iamgeekingout) March 10, 2019 Yes! talos when people kept saying goose was a simple cat #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/ASKf4U0cS4 — marilia (@brieourguest) March 9, 2019 Accurate. nick fury with avengers vs nick fury with carol and goose pic.twitter.com/nr5PRwBP83 — carol (@lizzieolses) March 10, 2019 I would vote for him. Goose the Flerken Cat 2020. Stole so many scenes in #CaptainMarvel. pic.twitter.com/UU6A0xNb1V — Adam Best (@adamcbest) March 9, 2019 They sure did. I just got back from watching #CaptainMarvel and no spoilers but needless to say I really enjoyed the film! Oh, and by the way, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Reggie as Goose “the Cat” freaking stole the show! Kudos to them and all the excitement that is to come in Avengers Endgame! pic.twitter.com/PE1XoPWwfp — ç¹å¥ãªåè12 (@SpecialForm12) March 8, 2019 Same. i saw captain marvel last night and i just wanna say that i would die for goose pic.twitter.com/HpQeRvAOvk — Maxx Danziger ⧠(@MaxxSIO) March 8, 2019 We need it, Marvel! Captain Marvel/Mar-Vell was super meh. Pero like, Goose the cat was super cute tho! Can't wait for his solo movie — EGO (@SupereeeGO) March 9, 2019 Exactly. you trusted a cat named Goose#captainmarvel pic.twitter.com/caLnmiIIO1 — LACi Alfonzoâ¤ð» (@LACiAlfonzo) March 8, 2019 Couldn't agree more. #CaptainMarvel the best character of the movie pic.twitter.com/fe6YeZHa51 — GOOSE (@GOOSEcatfood) March 8, 2019 The hero we need! Goose the cat is my hero. #CaptainMarvel — Tia Nicole Turman ð(@UnicornMetroid) March 9, 2019
  3. Sarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha- Omnipresent Security of the Highest Level. Bharat Mata Ki Jai!- Hail Mother India. With this motto and war-cry as the primary ideal and an ethos that includes pursuit for excellence, leading from the front, zero-error and launching surprise attacks on intruders with speed, stealth and precision, the National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos or the Black Cats (named after their black uniform and gear) of the Indian Special Forces, are one of the most fierce warriors. Not only are these men great warriors, but they are also fine tactical athletes of their own kind. The NSG was officially established in 1986, in an effort to create an elite force to counter any terrorist activities within the boundaries of our country. Like every branch of our Special Forces, the NSG has also developed gradually and their physical and mental fitness requirements have evolved from the time it got established. I am fortunate enough to be good friends with a few individuals who have been and are still serving in the Special Forces; and hence by writing this piece, I hope fellow Indians realize how gruelling the NSG training can be in order to stand a chance to protect our beloved country from within. Due to reasons pertaining to national security, not everything can be revealed but I have tried my best to portray the fitness requirements of the Black Cats after interviewing a few Black Cat Commandos. © Defencelover “The NSG is a volunteer arm and it has two parts: The Special Action Group consists of commandos selected from the Army and the Special Ranger Group consists of commandos from the Central and State Police Forces. Out of thousands of candidates, only 0.3% get selected to serve in the NSG. It is a very competitive procedure”, said Commando A (Name undisclosed). But why is the selection process so aggressive? It is mainly because the candidates are expected to change and transform themselves from soldiers or police personnel to Commandos in a very short time, and this procedure is physically and mentally taxing. “Candidates are not only expected to attain a minimum of “excellent” fitness performance as per the regular army standards (these include running, long jump, chin-ups, pushups, rope climbing and sit-ups; with and without combat gear), but also expected to become independent leaders by demonstrating excellent personality development and soft-skills.”, Commando A added. © Defencelover “The roles of the NSG include security of VIPs, room intervention and combating any and every sorts of terrorist activities within the country. During the counter-terror operation of 26/11 at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, the commandos had to perform room intervention and make a quick decision as to when to shoot or when to hold fire after breaking open every room-door. There could have been terrorists or only innocent guests or both in the room and decision making was crucial.”, said Commando B. “During the initial three-month training, commandos are not given more than 2-3 hours of sleep. I was made to stand for hours while wearing heavy loads on my back” said Commando C. We all know how important sleep is to us and how it helps us perform daily activities with ease. But we can't even imagine how much willpower it would require to ace physical tests, to learn martial arts and to be precise with target shooting while being sleep deprived! The NSG commandos are also well-trained in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Pekiti-Tirsia Kali (A Filipino martial art) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by qualified martial arts trainers. © YouTube If you thought that this was the end of their training, then let me add that after being a member of the NSG, commandos are tested either monthly or quarterly to make sure their skills and fitness levels remain up to the mark. Besides, they undergo multiple simulations for preparation and real-life projects that civilians never hear of. In 2018, the US Special Forces (Green Berets) conducted a joint drill with the NSG in Kolkata and were very impressed with the drills carried out in the Metro Railways by the Black Cats. There is no doubt that India is in safe and strong hands indeed.
  4. After the demise of fashion giant Karl Lagerfeld, all eyes are on his cat. The cat, a red-point Birman named 'Choupette', is all set to inherit a part of the designer's multi-million dollar fortune, that will probably make her the richest cat in the world. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jul 11, 2018 at 5:41pm PDT Karl Lagerfeld, fashion visionary and the Creative Director of Chanel, passed away on 19th February, and his feline companion Choupette, whom he referred to as the heiress of his fortune, will inherit a part of it. Lagerfeld's net worth is an estimated 195 million dollars. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jun 18, 2017 at 10:10am PDT Not that Choupette needs the money, because she already lives an extremely lavish life and also is sort of a social media celebrity herself, with thousands of followers on Instagram and Twitter. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Mar 1, 2017 at 9:11am PST Choupette already has earned more than 3 million dollars herself, by doing high end modelling gigs. Depending on how much more money she inherits, she might overtake 'Blackie' as the richest pussycat in the world. (The record for being the richest cat in the world is currently held by a cat named Blackie, who inherited 7 million pounds from his British owner in 1988.) View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jan 1, 2017 at 10:21am PST Guess you want to trade lives with her now? We do, too.
  5. While most of us claim that our childhood was the best phase of our lives, the same could not be said for Mihir Kapse. For Mihir, his childhood came laced with questioning stares and a constant fight to seek acceptance. Not much of a childhood memory we would want to hold on to, right? Mihir was barely 10-years-old when his family discovered that he was suffering from a learning disability, which was later diagnosed as dyslexia after some tests were carried out. While carrying on with regular schooling slowly began to turn into a problem, Mihir was not quick to give up. © The Indian Express Even as a kid, Mihir relished his own company, and found solace in reading and playing games. Yet, regardless of the discrimination that he faced in school, Mihir managed to complete his schooling till class 10th. However, as time would soon reveal, dyslexia wasn't to be the only medical diagnosis that was to come his way. Mihir was pursuing his engineering degree from College of Engineering, Pune when a sudden neurological attack revealed that it wasn't dyslexia but autism that Mihir was suffering from. Talking about that fateful incident of his life, Mihir told Career360 that, “It took me two years to recover from that attack because the first autistic attack is one of the worst ones which one faces. It almost feels like reverting to your childhood phase and from that, we are required to build ourselves all over again”. © Flickr The diagnosis came as a shock, but could not trample Mihir's spirit. He continued to work hard throughout his life, to chart his own path and make his own place in this game called life. So, when the CAT 2018 results were announced earlier this month, guess whose hard work and grit paid off in full? With a 99.97 CAT percentile, Mihir proved to this world that the will to fight and win is the most powerful to survive in this world. Talking about this massive achievement, his mother Jhanvi Kapse said in an interview with MyMedicalMantra that, “all this has come after many hardships. We were not only fighting with his disorder but with the outside world as well, where children like him are not easily accepted”. © IQuanta However, it isn't just his CAT score that is impressive, but the 27-year-old also holds a fancy job at JP Morgan as a quality analyst. When he was busy with his work or preparation for his exams, Mihir would solve puzzles or read fanfictions to destress. Today with such a stellar score, Mihir ranks amongst some of the highest scorers of CAT 2018 and dearly wishes to get through IIM Ahmedabad and work in the investment banking sector, before starting his own startup some 10 years from now. Mihir's journey might have been filled with many challenges, but it was his spirit and determination for a better life, that pushed him to move beyond his disabilities and achieve something many of us have aspired for.
  6. That time of the year is finally here, when someone around you will suddenly start showing interest in you. People who haven't called you in months, will now want to talk to you and know how you're doing. This is not a horoscope and I am not predicting your love life. I am talking about those nosy relatives and neighbours, who don't bother about your existence the whole year, but will now call you to know your CAT percentile. The results of CAT (Common Admission Test) 2018 were announced yesterday and as many as 11 candidates have scored 100 percentile. Twitter (For Representation) While, the first position is acquired by 22-year-old IIT Kanpur graduate Rounak Majumdar, the second spot has reportedly been acquired by Abhishek Garg from Delhi who scored 99.99 percentile. Abhishek and his twin brother Anubhav garg, both cracked CAT 2018 and scored over 99 percentile; but Anubhav is 0.2 percentile behind Abhishek, making him the topper from Delhi. Abhishek and Anubhav have always been toppers in their school, the kind of students our parents want us to be friends with. Twitter (For Representation) They cracked engineering exam JEE together, joined IIT-Delhi together and now both of them have cracked CAT 2018 too. Explaining the mantra behind his success to The Indian Express, Abhishek Garg said "Repetitive mock tests is the key to success. Apart from it, hard work throughout the year with special focus to Quant section helped me a lot." The Garg brothers draw inspiration from their father, Tarun Garg, who himself is an alumnus of IIM-Lucknow and working as an executive director, marketing in Maruti Suzuki India. "The success of my father in the management field inspired us to choose the path," Abhishek added. Wikimedia Apart from their parents, they also credit their success to TIME Delhi. Anubhav, the younger brother said "I am younger by two minutes and coincidentally was just 0.2 percentile behind my brother in the CAT results. Apart from my parents, teachers in TIME Delhi helped us a lot in preparing for the examinations." Both Abhishek and Anubhav dream of pursuing MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad and suggest other aspirants to believe in self-study and sit for mock-tests.
