  1. Surveen Chawla, who started her career with TV shows, has indeed come a long way. After featuring in various hit TV serials including Kahiin Toh Hoga and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Surveen entered the Punjabi film industry followed by Bollywood films and web shows. She proved her mettle as an actor in every medium and is known for her performances in Hate Story 2 (2014), Ugly (2013), and Parched (2015). View this post on Instagram Surveen, who will next be seen in the Netflix series Decoupled opposite R Madhavan, has opened up about facing casting couch during her initial days in the South film industry. In an interview, the actress revealed that she was body-shamed during her first film meeting and warned that she would not get good roles as her weight was 56 kilos. During a recent interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, when asked if she had faced body shaming or casting couch, Surveen talked about her first film meeting in Bombay. Calling out the supposed physical parameters, she said, "So I was doing television and then I went for this first meeting. You know it's their job to kind of get you in the space where you question yourself. And this happens to most women also where their appearance is questioned, their weight is questioned, what is your waist size is questioned, what is your chest size is questioned". View this post on Instagram This experience made Surveen doubt herself as it is not right to judge a woman based on physical parameters. She added, "It was a period where it, alongside all the casting couch that went on with it and then a lot from the south (film industry) actually and it was quite a difficult period...It was there but I don't think those are not the right parameters that define you or make you believe or disbelieve on where you want to be or where you are at". For the unversed, Surveen made her South film debut in 2008 with the Kannada movie Paramesha Panwala and went on to feature in various Tamil and Telugu projects including Raju Maharaju, Puthiya Thiruppangal among others. Her filmography also includes various prominent Punjabi movies like Dharti, Taur Mittran Di, Singh vs Kaur, and Disco Singh. Whereas, on the web front, she has been a part of successful shows like Haq Se (ALTBalaji) and Sacred Games (Netflix). Her next release, Decoupled is slated to release on December 17 and tells the story of a separating couple. Watch the trailer here: View the full article
  2. Indian Premier League (IPL) is the world’s biggest and the most famous T20 league and is watched by billions of fans in different parts of the globe. Since its inception in 2008, only three franchises have managed to lay their hands on the coveted title more than once and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is one of them, with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) leading the title race with five and four titles, respectively. View this post on Instagram Co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Juhi Chawla, KKR have lifted the IPL trophy twice but there have been occasions when the franchise cut a sorry figure and failed to even qualify for the playoffs. As owners both SRK and Juhi are passionate about their team and how they perform on the field. Whether they are in the stands or watching the live action on TV, they both follow their team closely and want the players to do well all the time. View this post on Instagram Whenever they are in the stadium and their team is performing well, the camera always pans out to them and we get to see them enjoying themselves from the VIP stands. But not many people know how they react when things are going downhill for the franchise. Recently, Juhi revealed how she and SRK react whenever KKR is performing poorly in a match. The Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak actress said that she starts praying to all the gods, chants Gayantri Mantra and does everything in her capacity to bring the team good fortune and turn the tide for them. “Shuru ho jaati hoon bhagwan ko yaad karna, mantra padna. Sabke pair pad leti hoon main, Hanuman ji ko tak nahi chhodti. Gayatri mantra shuru ho jaate hai. Sab karti hoon main (I start praying to every god there is and begin chanting mantras),” said Juhi on the Kapil Sharma Show when asked about how she reacts when the team is having a tough day in the field. SRK, to Juhi’s surprise, starts scolding her while expressing his dissatisfaction with the players for not diverting from the team’s game plan. Image “Idhar se Shah Rukh mujhe daantne lag gaye. ‘Bowling kaise kar raha hai, bowling should be according to the fielding. This is not right. I must call a team meeting.’ Mereko daant rahe hai. Main toh wahaan khadi hoon, mereko pata nahi kya karoon (Shah Rukh starts scolding me about the performance of our players. ‘How is he bowling, bowling should be according to the fielding. This is not right. I must call a team meeting.’ He scolds me. I just stand there, not knowing what to do),” she added. View this post on Instagram Meanwhile, KKR came close to winning their third IPL title only to be beaten by MS Dhoni’s CSK at the final hurdle in Dubai. Ahead of the mega auction, the franchise has retained four players Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine. They will have to look for a new skipper since they decided to let go of England’s Eoin Morgan who guided them to the IPL final. Having retained their core group of players, the Kolkata-based outfit would look to build their squad around them ahead of a new IPL campaign. View the full article

  5. Actor Juhi Chawla has shared a new video on her Instagram talking about the Supreme Court dismissing her lawsuit over the implementation of 5G mobile technology and equipment in India. She shared the video with the caption “It was about time. I'll let you decide if it was a publicity stunt." © Instagram_Juhi Chawla In the video Chawla claims that she approached different parliamentary committees and organisations about her concerns. She said that her fight against 5G started after she saw some 14 towers installed at the Sahyadri Guest House right in front of her own home. She then cites a news report which talked about the harmful effects of cellular radiation on human health and decided to reach out to agencies to figure if the new cellular towers could harm her and her family. © julian-tilgenkamp-unsplash Chawla also claims that when the agency arrived at her home, their reading equipment recorded the maximum reading they were capable of. She also said that the agency submitted a report to her mentioning the various areas in her home with harmful levels of radiation. It is worthy to point out that neither the report nor its findings were published for everyone to view to support Chawla’s claims. It is also not known whether this particular report was shared in her lawsuit with the Supreme Court. However, Chawla claims that that report said the harmful levels of radiation could lead to multiple health issues such as headaches, memory loss and irregular blood pressure. Juhi Chawla then filed PILs and petitions for the removal of the 14 towers in front of her home. It was found that 13 out of 14 of them were installed illegally. View this post on Instagram Juhi Chawla was trolled online for her lawsuit against 5G technology and was also given scathing remarks by the court. She was fined Rs 20 lakh and the court also said, “The plaintiffs have abused and misused the process of law which has resulted in waste of judicial time.” The court further said, “It is a defective plaint. This suit has been filed only for media publicity and nothing more than that. It is very shocking. Did you approach the government with a representation? If yes, is there any denial?” the court asked to which the plaintiffs’ counsel replied negatively. © Reuters Juhi Chawla has now said in a statement, "Whatever transpired in June, left me feeling hurt and confused. On one hand, I received some bad press and publicity, on the other, I received heartwarming messages from unknown people telling me they were genuinely and completely in support. One such message was from a group of farmers in Maharashtra which brought tears to my eyes, they wished to carry out a voluntary drive to collect a small sum of money from each of their 10,000 farmer communities to help me pay the hefty penalty, I had been fined with.” "Moments like these made me grateful that no matter what, I had lent a voice to the health concerns of many, many simple people of my country. When the storm died down, and I could see more clearly, I became calm and strong because I realised what an important, timely, relevant and impacting question I had raised. Had it not been so, would the world have erupted the way it did?!” "All this while I remained silent because I believe silence has its own deafening sound, but now I'd like to bring forth some very important and shocking details of happenings, in my 11-year journey of discovering EMF radiation, its health effects and the glaring ignorance of certain authorities in this regard. I hope you can make some time to watch this video," she said. View the full article

The actor approached the court against the rollout of 5G technology in India which was later dismissed and fined Rs 20 Lakh. She has now reiterated in her video that her case with other petitioners was not against 5G itself, but instead wanted to be reassured it was certified safe. © julian-tilgenkamp-unsplash She said, "There has been so much noise in the past few days that I couldn’t even hear myself. I feel like a very important message got lost in the noise. That is, we are not against 5G. In fact, we are welcoming of it. All we're asking is that the authorities certify it safe. We are just asking them to publish their studies in the public domain so our fears are allayed.” "We just want to know that it is safe for children, pregnant women, unborn children, for people who are old and infirm…for flora and fauna. That is all we're asking," she added. View this post on Instagram Juhi Chawla had filed a petition against the new mobile communications technology in the Delhi High Court. 8. The Delhi High Court has dismissed the lawsuit filed by Juhi Chawla for the introduction of 5G technology in India and was imposed a fine of Rs 20 Lakh. The court on Wednesday reserved its order in the suit and after hearing arguments, dismissed the case today over its maintainability. © Instagram/Juhi Chawla Justice Jag Jivan Ram Midha said that the suit was “defective” and dismissed it on technical grounds. “The plaintiffs have abused and misused the process of law which has resulted in waste of judicial time. The cost of Rs 20 lakh is imposed on the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs are directed to deposit the cost of Rs 20 lakh with Delhi State Legal Services Authority within one week,” said the court. It also added that if the fine is not deposited within one week, the DLSA will recover it in accordance with the law. © Instagram/Juhi Chawla The court blasts the actor yesterday for filing a lawsuit without giving any representation to the government on her concerns related to the technology. Juhi Chawla’s plea claims that 5G wireless technology can threaten to provoke serious, irreversible effects on humans and permanent damage to the Earth's ecosystems. The court further said, “It is a defective plaint. This suit has been filed only for media publicity and nothing more than that. It is very shocking. Did you approach the government with a representation? If yes, is there any denial?,” the court asked to which the plaintiffs’ counsel replied in negative. © Reuters The proceedings also saw interruptions at least three times in midst of arguments by usernames ‘Manisha Koirala’ and ‘Jahnvi’ where songs featuring Juhi Chawla were sung. Justice Midha warned the user against interruptions and locked the virtual courtroom. Chawla had shared the link to the virtual hearing on her Twitter and Instagram accounts prior to the hearing on Wednesday. 9. In one of the most baffling and uninformed lawsuits this year, actress Juhi Chawla filed a case against 5G technology deployment in India. She was later blasted by the Delhi High Court for filing a lawsuit without giving any representation to the government on her concerns related to the technology. © Instagram/Juhi Chawla Juhi Chawla’s plea claims that 5G wireless technology can threaten to provoke serious, irreversible effects on humans and permanent damage to the Earth's ecosystems. The suit by Juhi Chawla, Veeresh Malik and Teena Vachani claimed that due to 5G technology "no person, animal, bird, insect and plant on Earth will be able to avoid exposure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to levels of RF radiation that are 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today." The court heard arguments of various parties and asked as to why as many as 33 parties were added to the plaintiff and said it is not permitted under the law. “It is not the sweet will of the plaintiff to join as many parties and cause of action. Please see the memo of parties. Tell me how you have joined them. Every party cannot be arrayed in the suit,” the judge said. © Unsplash/julian-tilgenkamp The court further said, “It is a defective plaint. This suit has been filed only for media publicity and nothing more than that. It is very shocking. Did you approach the government with a representation? If yes, is there any denial?,” the court asked to which the plaintiffs’ counsel replied in negative. “Plaintiff has no personal knowledge of the plaint. I am surprised. How can it be? Is the suit permissible when the plaintiff has no personal knowledge of the averment? I have not seen a suit where a person says I don’t know, please conduct an inquiry,” the judge said. © Reuters The court also questioned the knowledge of plaintiffs on the facts and warned them to prosecute for filing a suit based on false claims. Solicitor General Tushar Mehra appeared for the Central government and argued that the suit was frivolous and barred under Section 9 of the Code. "The suit really is frivolous. These are rare instances where power under Section 9 may be exercised. There is no cause of action," Mehta said. He added, the plaintiffs needed to show how the technology is wrongful and termed the suit as an “ill-conceived litigation.” Advocate Deepak Khosla, representing the plaintiffs, said the 5G technology trials involving the human population have been done and added that these are not "pigs and rats.” 5G network operates at a frequency that enables high-speed internet wirelessly. Nodes emit radio frequencies that are 10 to 100 times higher than what we operate smartphones on, however this level of radiation is already present around in from natural and artificial sources. This radiation scatters rather quickly and does not affect humans, animals or plants. 5G networks run at various microwaves such as 600 to 850 megahertz (low band), 2.5 to 3.7 gigahertz and 25 to 39 gigahertz (high band). Also, India is not far behind in the ‘5G Race’ and has been flaunting the advancements and achievements in the technology and digital communication field. Juhi Chawla has been doing her bit for the environment and has been concerned about the safety of the people and has now filed a suit against the implementation of 5G in India. On the contrary, we enjoy using the latest products that the world of technology has to offer, including in the field of wireless communications. However, whilst using the latter kind of devices, we are in a constant dilemma, because after doing our own research and studies regarding the RF radiation from wire-free gadgets and network cell towers, we have sufficient reason to believe that the radiation is extremely harmful and injurious to the health and safety of the people.” The Ministry of Telecommunications said, “No studies supported by SERB have been conducted specifically on the effect of 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G cellular technologies on humans, animals, birds, plants, or any other living organisms." View this post on Instagram Juhi Chawla's spokesperson said, “The present suit is being instituted in order to seek a direction from this Hon'ble court to the arrayed Defendants, to certify to us and, therefore, to the public at large, that 5G technology is safe to humankind, man, woman, adult, child, infant, animals and every type of organisms, to flora, to fauna, and in support thereof, to produce their respective studies regarding RF radiation through mobile cell towers, and if not already conducted, to also conduct an efficient research, and without the participation of private interest, and to subsequently furnish the report and declare whether or not the implementation of 5G in India would be safe, keeping un regards the health and safety of the present and future citizenry on India, including little children and infants, as well as infants of generations to come." 11. Here's the story of an Indian crafts initiative that is now worth Rs. 100 crore.
  12. India is the land of art and culture - in our land every colour holds a meaning and every thread or stitch tells you a story. A land where magic lies between the folds of our palms and takes the form of exquisite pieces of handicraft, be it the ones you adorn your body with or the ones that decorate your abode. The history and heritage that India holds within its pretty valleys and tiny hamlets, as well as the inexplicable talents that stay hidden amongst the bustling or solitary bylanes of long forgotten villages remains unheard of and often unexplored to a great extent. Until of course a man who goes by the name of Puneet Chawla decided to dig further and explore this arena of Indian culture and heritage. An idea gave birth to a platform that brought forth and displayed some of India's most magnificent and forgotten forms of handicrafts. Jaypore's origin lay in its inherent need to open the pathways of interaction and collaboration between India's talented artisans and a consumer that has an elevated taste and eye for authentic Indian crafts and goods. © MensXP Tracing The Roots Jaypore was born out of Puneet's desire to explore the international market for Indian handicrafts thereby also providing work and recognition to innumerable artisans in the country who were waiting to be discovered. What started as a one man and two women army, working out of an old haveli in Delhi's Shahpur Jat, the initially launched online e-commerce brand has now expanded to launch its first offline store a couple of months back, with the second one already set to open its door to public real soon. From humble beginnings to monetary and manforce struggles, Jaypore has seen it all. Thriving on its credibility and positive recommendations from customers through word-of-mouth and honest reviews, Jaypore today ships 25-30,000 products a month! They work closely with around 1,00,000 artisans from every state in India and of which almost 70% are women! © MensXP Known for their extensive collection of premium artisanal lifestyle products with a contemporary touch to them, the brand is a major hit both online and offline. Puneet takes immense pride in every vendor Jaypore is associated with and finds and alignment between their beliefs that craft isn't merely a business but a way of life for the craftsmen in India. Having had the vision to provide a platform to these the fast disappearing forms of art, his brand today works with almost every craft technique, from every state in the subcontinent. © MensXP Since its inception in 2012, Jaypore today boasts of a vendor base that's over one thousand in number every quarter and a customer base that topples over a whopping 1,00,000! Now they even have an offline store that they launched recently in GK-I and that's one move that's close to Puneet's heart. He feels that the Indian customer loves to touch and feel all the products they invest in and the store provides that opportunity to his trusting consumers. They have kept the store subtle and ensured that every product gets visibility while maintain a sense of abundance and discovery in the store. © MensXP Puneet considers himself very lucky to have come across the angel investor who invested in his business idea and saw potential in it at the very initial stage of Jaypore's making. They survived on the same investment for the next three years and went for their Series A funding only in 2016 and so far they have raised a total of 50 crores in the last five years. Puneet also places a lot of importance and value on experimentation and risk taking attitude to continuously grow and evolve as a brand that continues to cater to the needs of the artisans as well as the valuable consumer-base that Jaypore holds. For Puneet that last five years have all been about discovery, passion and adding value to people's lives. Not only did he bring exposure to Indian handicrafts on an international level, he has always made his customers his priority and served them with honesty and dedication, thereby bring immense success to the brand. Such an inspiring story we must say!

  15. It’s been a while since we have seen desi girl Priyanka Chopra on-screen in Bollywood films. ‘Jai Gangajal’ was Priyanka’s last film and since then, she has been busy with her Hollywood commitments. But now PeeCee is back and everyone wants to know which project she is taking next. After playing a badass villain and an FBI cop, Priyanka is all set to explore the outer space world. According to a media report, she has signed a biopic based on late astronaut Kalpana Chawla. There were rumours that the actress was offered the lead role and now has locked this project. © Instagram The film is being helmed by debutant Priya Mishra. “I have been working on it for the past seven years. A new production banner will back the project. I was last heading a TV channel creatively and post 2011, quit to pursue filmmaking. This is one of the two scripts that I have written,” Priya Mishra told Mid-Day. For people who don’t know Kalpana Chawla, she was the first female Indian astronaut who travelled to the outer space. Born in Karnal, Haryana in March 1962, Chawla studied in Tagore Bal Niketan School and completed aeronautical engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. In 1982, she moved to US and six years later she started working with NASA. However, in February 2003, she and her fellow mates died when her space shuttle Columbia exploded. “The talks are going on. It’s still a work in progress. If everything goes as planned, one can expect Priyanka to soon start working on this film,” says a source close to the team. If the reports are to be belived, this will be Priyanka’s second biopic film after Mary Kom. But other reports claim that the actor has signed ‘Pink’ director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhary’s thriller film. However, nothing official has been announced yet. So is Priyanka all set to explore the space or get in the grey mode? Guess we still need to wait to know more. You are too nice to me @therock !can't wait to share this one with the world! You have been such a wonderful partner in this process! Thank you for all the love!
