  5. At a time when our democracy is dwindling amidst the CAA and the NRC row, celebrating anything seems like a tough task for the human heart. The country is divided on the whole issue and the protests happening across the country are proof that at least weâre all united in protecting each other from whatever awaits us. As the world celebrated Christmas yesterday, Indians kept it a low profile affair this year, but a video of our brave soldiers celebrating Christmas at the LOC in Kashmir has gone viral and trust us, it is warming our hearts on a cold winter morning. #WATCH Jawans celebrate Christmas on the Line of Control in Kashmir. 13. PARIS: French train and metro drivers took their crippling transport strike into its 19th straight day Monday in a standoff with the government over pension reform, casting a pall over Christmas plans with many unable to reach loved ones. Talks between the government and unions last week failed to find middle ground, and strikers vowed there would be no holiday truce unless the overhaul plan is scrapped. Trade unions and others involved in the strike will meet with the government on January 7 to discuss the pension reforms, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe´s office said Monday. The talks are set to run through the month of January. Starting on December 5, the strike has hit daily commuters hard -- especially around Paris and other large cities -- and is now impeding tens of thousands of ticket holders who had planned to spend the festive season with family or friends. On Saturday and Sunday, the last weekend before Christmas, the SCNF rail operator provided half the usual number of TGV high-speed trains, a third of regional TER services, a quarter of inter-city trains, and one in five connecting Paris to its outer suburbs. This sent thousands scrambling for alternative transport, with car rental agencies unable to meet the surge in demand. Nor will there be reprieve for those staying in Paris from the stoppage that has slashed train and metro services and caused high levels of frustration on overcrowded carriages. The SNCF has announced that on Tuesday evening, Christmas Eve, it will halt trains between Paris and its suburbs. Some lines will reopen Wednesday morning, others only on Thursday, meaning many people will have to cancel plans to meet up with friends or family for Christmas lunch. - ´Historic error´ - Unions are angry about the government´s plan to merge France´s 42 pension schemes into a single points-based one, which would see some public employees -- notably railway staff -- lose early-retirement and other benefits. The government insists the new system would be fairer and more transparent. Workers are baulking particularly at the inclusion of a so-called "pivot age" of 64 until which people would have to work to earn a full pension -- two years beyond the official retirement age. President Emmanuel Macron issued an appeal on Saturday for a holiday truce, urging strikers to embrace "a spirit of responsibility" and for "collective good sense to triumph". A poll by the IFOP agency published Sunday showed public backing for the action dropping by three percentage points, though 51 percent of respondents still expressed support or sympathy for the strikers. Unions are hoping for a repeat of 1995 when the government backed down on pension reform after three weeks of metro and rail stoppages just before Christmas -- a cherished holiday for many French people. But their action is taking a heavy toll on businesses, especially retailers, hotels and restaurants, during what should be one of the busiest periods of the year. Industry associations have reported turnover declines of 30 to 60 percent from a year earlier. Non-transport workers joined the protest Monday, shuttering at least one oil refinery and a petrol depot in the south, while others blocked a bus depot in the northwest. In Paris, protesters briefly held up Metro Line 1 -- one of only two lines unaffected by the strike as they are driverless, unlike the other 14. In recent days, electricity workers had also interrupted power to thousands of homes. On Monday, the leader of the Force Ouvriere union, Yves Veyrier, insisted the pension reform was a "historic error" and must be "discarded".

  15. Miley Cyrus on Saturday shared a song on Twitter with a powerful message for those feeling lonely this Christmas. The singer posted the video of an old song which she had written about how it's like when you are feeling over the festive period. The video of the song accompanied a caption that read, "A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays. Was feeling like s*** cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone...." The singer then went on to console all those who are feeling what she felt at the time of writing her Christmas song. "In ways that still feels relevant and someone reading this right now could possibly relate! If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC! You are as special as a snowflake , beautifully unique and I hope inside your soul feels light, hope , peace..." she wrote in the second tweet. She reassured her fans that regardless of what they might be going through "love always wins".
  16. No Christmas Mass at Notre-Dame for first time in two centuries. Photo: ReutersPARIS: Notre-Dame cathedral will fail to hold a Christmas mass for the first time since 1803, French officials confirmed on Saturday, as workers continue to repair and rebuild the Paris landmark eight months after a devastating fire. The cathedral´s press office said midnight mass would still be celebrated on Christmas Eve by rector Patrick Chauvet but it would be held at the nearby church of Saint-Germain l´Auxerrois. Notre-Dame, part of a UNESCO world heritage site on the banks of the River Seine, was ravaged by the April 15 blaze -- losing its gothic spire, roof and many precious artefacts. The building had remained open for Christmas through two centuries of often tumultuous history -- including the Nazi occupation in World War II -- being forced to close only during the anti-Catholic revolutionary period in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. President Emmanuel Macron has set a timetable of five years to completely repair the eight-centuries-old structure, which remains shrouded in scaffolding with a vast crane looming over it. Paris prosecutors suspect criminal negligence and opened an investigation in June, suggesting a stray cigarette butt or an electrical fault could be the culprit. The culture ministry said in October that nearly one billion euros ($1.1 billion) had been pledged or raised for the reconstruction.

  18. Kim Kardashian criticized for photoshopping her kids in Christmas card. Photo: cosmopolitanFashion mongol Kim Kardashian recently landed herself in hot waters over allegedly using Photoshop in order to edit pictures of her children in her 2019 Christmas card. Fans were quick to point out in the comment section it was "close to impossible" to have all of her four children pose still for a picture and have them "acting right and still."In the photo, Kardashian and her children can be seen sitting on the stairs while her husband Kanye West had Chicago West in her arms. Chicago and Psalm donned the same grey jumpsuit, each cuddled up in their parents arms. The photo titled "The West Family Christmas Card 2019" had fans saying, "Who photoshopped north in? The lighting looks... different."Another commented, "I was looking for this comment, this deff looks photoshopped." One user inquired, "Why all the kids look like stickers?"Others stated, "I think they are photoshopped lol no joke if you look closer you can tell." One fan was extremely certain at his deduction and went onto say, "This is 100% an edited photo I'm surprised more people haven't said this."

  20. Christmas is the season of joy and togetherness, a time when our homes are decorated, the tree is decked up and the family gets together to celebrate a time full of love. However, not everyone is lucky enough to have family or a place to call 'home' and that's where the humanitarian heroes of the world come into the picture. The Sikh community has always led by example when it comes to serving the world, and the amazing people and volunteers at UK's 'Langar Seva Society' organised a festive dinner for the homeless and even distributed gifts to ensure that the festival was celebrated together. They had a Santa Claus, carol singers but most impotantly, hearts full of warmth which ensured that the Chrsitmas party was exactly what the festive season was all about; joy, love and a sense of belongingness. This world and of all humanity still have hope in the form of beautiful people, who inspire us everyday to become a better version of ourselves.
  21. Christmas is celebrated globally and pretty much marks the end of the year. Everyone is in a relaxed mood, schedules are filled with holidays and everyone just wants to relax. Seems like the holiday season now extends to "artificial" beings as well. Amazon's Echo smart speakers went down across the network on Christmas Day, with thousands of people reporting that the company's artificial intelligence assistant Alexa appeared to have gone on a festive break. © Amazon Amazon recently reported that it had sold "tens of millions" of the Echo range of smart speakers powered by the company's AI assistant Alexa. It's simple to conclude, a lot of people opened their presents in the morning, fired up the speaker and asked it way too many questions. It's natural for all of us to play around a maximum time when the gadget is new, and this flood of new users downed the servers. Thanks to the tens of thousands, or maybe even millions of commands coming in from all over the globe, the system just couldn't handle it. Even Alexa had it with humans and decided to be Absent Without Leave (AWOL), and I'm sure HR folks at Amazon weren't very excited about it. Oh dear. Red ring of death #alexa pic.twitter.com/aPqlE6LUX5 — Angus Fox ð´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ (@nuxnix) December 25, 2018 Multilingual Alexa, who has more than 70,000 different skills, told over 100 million jokes in 2018, but people were less than impressed with her Christmas day stunt. Rather than give the desired response, when the system crashed at about 10 am, Alexa said: "Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding you right now." Though, the system was slowly back on track by the end of the afternoon. Replying to a query on Twitter, Amazon said they were aware of the issue and a technical team would resolve it within 12-24 hours. © Outage(dot) report The Amazon Echo speaker has a ring on the top, it usually is blue in colour, but turned red on Christmas Day. This obviously, wasn't planned to match along with the festival, but a sign that Alexa is unable to connect with the server successfully. The system wasn't globally down as many users in the U.S.A reported no issues while the most affected seem to be UK and Italy. The Amazon Echo Dot was Amazon's most popular gift in the lead up to the holidays.
  22. Celebrations aren't over for the Chopra and the Jonas clans, and neither are the reasons to throw parties. After hosting 2 weddings and multiple receptions (we lost track after the second one), the couple switched their party mode on once again last night, when they threw a kickass Christmas party for their friends and family. 23. Salman Khan may not be the best dancer Bollywood has seen, but he surely is the best brother Sohail and Arbaaz could have asked for. It is a fact well known that Salman can move heaven and earth for his family, and so he has always stood by his brothers through thick and thin. View this post on Instagram Just a few years ago :) A post shared by Salman Khan (@beingsalmankhan) on Oct 4, 2017 at 7:08am PDT While there are very few movies where the brothers have come together and shared the screen space (read 'Hello Brother'), we have otherwise witnessed both Arbaaz and Sohail appear in movies alongside their big brother, and entertain us thoroughly (Read 'Hello Brother', 'Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya', 'Dabangg', 'Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya' and the likes). But this Christmas, the brothers gave us a visual dose of what it might be like to have all three of them share the silver screen yet again (well, one can always wish), and the end result has left us in high spirits! View this post on Instagram Merry Xmas to all.... A post shared by Salman Khan (@beingsalmankhan) on Dec 25, 2018 at 10:00am PST Last night, Salman Khan shared a short video of the Christmas celebrations on his Instagram account. In it we can see that Sallu Bhai and Arbaaz are grooving to a peppy number on the dance floor, while Sohail joins the duo soon. The three brothers can be seen tapping their feet together (almost in-sync) and really having a lot of fun together. Later their brother-in-law and actor Ayush Sharma also joins the trio in the end of the video. 24. While Christmas is a time with family and close friends, it also brings in some form of romantic closure. It could be because cosying up with someone in the cold harsh winter is the ultimate thing to do, while the festivities are in order. So, in case you're looking for date idea to brighten up your holiday, we have some rather swanky ones, that are away from boring Christmas traditions. © Pinterest Here are 5 different ways to spend the Christmas holiday together: (1) Cook A Grand Meal Together Since Christmas is all about good food, why don't you two take that up as a chore and get to work? Look up some Christmas lunch recipes and whip up something you've never tried your hand at before. Trust me, cooking together as a couple is quite therapeutic and of course, brings you a lot closer. © Pinterest (2) Go About Town In Ugly Sweaters Ugly sweaters are to Christmas what boners are to mornings. They're uncomfortable but natural! So, make a thing of it and wear the ugliest one you have in your closet and venture out during the day. You could go for lunch, watch a movie, or just stay home and chill, as long as you're in your ugliest sweater! © Pinterest (3) Soak In The Sun Head out for a picnic in the sunny afternoon and get drunk on some wine. While drinking may be prohibited in public places, I am sure you can sip some wine in a chosen picnic spot and spend the afternoon just catching up with some sun. © Pinterest (4) Have Some Wild Christmas *** Yup, role-playing is bang on (pun intended) on Christmas. You can dress up as Santa, she can dress up as a naughty elf and you can spend your afternoon just playing out festive fantasies! It's a good day to stay in, lock your doors and lose inhibition! © Pinterest (5) Spend Your Evenings Making Cocktails That's a brilliant way to spend Christmas with your SO. Fish out some cocktail recipes from the internet and get all the mixers and tonics in place and churn out some mean cocktails. They can be very festive in nature and hit the spot just about right. Imagine the fun you'd have wasted in the kitchen whipping up some amazing cocktails together! © Pinterest You can obviously do some clichéd stuff too like sitting around in your pyjamas and Netflix and 'chilling' or you can head out for a fabulous Christmas lunch somewhere or have a regular date night. The point is, it's a joyous festival, so doing something different is just an add-on, as long as you have fun doing it! So this Christmas, make the most of it with your plus 1 and have a fabulous holiday!
  25. 'Black Mirror' is one of the best shows to have ever existed and I'm not even exaggerating. It's so brilliant and every episode is so well-made and very memorable. All the fans of the show always get a great Christmas present a few days after 25th in the form of new 'Black Mirror' episodes every year and it seems like we won't be disappointed this year as well. Just last week, I was looking up the season 5 release date and finally got an answer today. Netflix is finally giving up something related to the new season and the excitement is at an all-time high. There's one problem though, as instead of an entire season, we might just be getting one Black Mirror Netflix Original movie called 'Bandersnatch', at least according to the easter egg on Netflix right now. If you search for 'Black Mirror' on the site right now, the results look something like this - © Netflix I like how they used 'Be right back' instead of 'Coming soon' because the first one is the title of an old episode. We see you, 'Black Mirror', we see you. Just a week till 28th - the tentative release date - and we'll know for sure what all we're getting and what the episode will be about. It's not yet clear if it will be a standalone episode like 'White Christmas' or a part of the fifth season and include the 'choose your own adventure' narrative. Upon closer look, it's titled as 'A Netflix Film: Black Mirror - Bandersnatch' With the image consisting of other Black Mirror episodes, is this a feature film? Or something to do with those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' reports. pic.twitter.com/3k0MDYyJAf — Scott Bryan (@scottygb) December 20, 2018 Someone found the synopsis as well! finally! the synopsis of the black mirror movie (taken from a korea rating website) can we fast forward to next friday, please? pic.twitter.com/ZGMIG3txgq — ana (@bluesgrady) December 20, 2018 And, here's some more information about 'Bandersnatch'. Turns out there was an ill-fated game named 'Bandersnatch' developed by a UK studio back in 1984, which is the year 'Bandersnatch' the Black Mirror episode takes place (we know this because a set photo shows Bob Marley's 'Legend' at #1 on the charts in a record store). pic.twitter.com/rytyTl22sP — Ebejeevezner Scrooge âðððâï¸ (@jeeveswilliams) November 21, 2018
