  1. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced his proposal on making bus and metro services free for women in Delhi. This plan, if implemented, will cost the government around Rs 700-800 crore in a year. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal: On all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains women will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they have a safe travel experience and can access modes of transport which they were not able to, due to high prices. pic.twitter.com/KVqEWDIJAS — ANI (@ANI) June 3, 2019 The AAP chief further explained that this scheme is being put in place but not being imposed on anyone and that women are free to pay for the ticket if they want. The reactions to his announcement have been splashing all over the internet and, of course, the men of this city have a lot of thoughts. Arvind Kejriwal announces free travel for only WOMEN on all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains. Meanwhile Delhi men : pic.twitter.com/4bKqM05O0Z — Tweeterað¦ (@DoctorrSays) June 3, 2019 Have you heard this? Is imposition of #FreeRideForWomen in Delhi a gettable task? His handle says "सब à¤à¤¨à¥à¤¸à¤¾à¤¨ à¤à¤ बराबर हà¥à¥¤" But in reality this insane showcases Gender Inequality while PM Modi schemes Nari Shakti for making women equally skilled like men. And Equality goes for the toss... A girl carrying an iPhone, Gucchi bag, posh clothes will travel for free and a handicap will make his efforts to buy tickets and stand in a metro while the girl is chilling and sitting on the chair #DelhiMetro — Sidharth Dash (@Sidharth_dash) June 3, 2019 According to Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal: "Safety of Women is inversely proportional to Travel Cost in #DelhiMetro and Buses" ðððð — Vivek Jaiswal (@vivekjaiswal_93) June 3, 2019 If you feel everyone are equal, so why are you divide humanity in gender. Why every decision is based on gender/caste @ArvindKejriwal #DelhiMetro pic.twitter.com/6zHV9x5zw7 — Manoj kumar (@maankumararena) June 3, 2019 Talking about the strong women of this city, they feel that they can pay for their own ticket and the government should focus on providing them a safer environment instead. #Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal thinks the INDEPENDENT WOMEN of Delhi can't pay their fare. Instead of this they should do something for the safety, of the women, which is in danger in the capital. Best example of vote bank politics.ðð #DelhiMetro — Shraddha singh (@shraddha_singh7) June 3, 2019 @AAP will crush #DelhiMetro eventually....just for votes.#Freebies hinders development. Metro needs money to function to maintain itself. I'm perfectly capable to pay for it and I'll. https://t.co/I0CnFF1Hke — Ankita Singh (@DelhiteAnkita) June 2, 2019 With all due respect, women in Delhi didn't ask for a free pass to ride when they voted for Kejriwal ji, they had voted for the safe environment promised to them. https://t.co/5AtSuFKFzt — Priyanka Chaturvedi (@priyankac19) June 3, 2019 Stop being so regressive @arvindkejriwal. While Women can afford their tickets, what they require is safety. Only exemption made should be for the economically weaker sections without the gender discrimination. #DelhiMetro — Geetika Swami (@SwamiGeetika) June 3, 2019 the AAP government feels that this move is a step and an investment towards women safety, but the majority of the population in Delhi, including the women, refuse to agree. While his intentions might be well, one cannot help but also agree with the people that the women of this city need safety first, not free metro rides.
  2. Last week Rajkot police issued a notification to ban PUBG Mobile citing the game to be 'addictive' and harmful for youngsters. Well, if you thought that people would get away playing the game after the ban, then guess what? You were wrong. Within just five days, Rajkot police have arrested 10 youngsters for playing the battle royale game and violating the ban in different parts of the city like Junagadh, Nana Mava Road, Vaswani Road, Atmiya College Road and Jagannath Chowk areas. All these youngsters were aged between 19 and 25 years, and they were playing the game in a public place. © PUBG Mobile The accused were arrested and their mobile phones were seized. They were released on bail later. However, it does send out a stern message that the ban won't remain just on paper. While speaking to TOI, Police Inspector VS Vanzara of Rajkot taluka police station said, “All these students were arrested for violating the notification issued by police commissioner. They were released on bail later.” The ban notification, in case you're wondering, was issued on March 7 by the Rajkot police commissioner, and it's currently in effect in the city. Anyone caught playing the game would be liable to action under sections 144 and 37(3).
  3. Ahead of the 2018-19 I-League season, the 11 participating teams surely fancied their chances of winning the title this year. But, while for some it seemed like wishful thinking, others - the big dogs of the league - seemed realistic in their title claims. The likes of Churchill Brothers who won the title on two occasions were amongst the top contenders. And, so were defending champions Minerva Punjab whose fairytale run last season had made them a team to watch out for. So, when Chennai City's Spanish forward Pedro Manzi, ahead of the 2018-19 season, claimed that his side will go on to win the I-League title, many lauded his confidence, while quietly rejecting his bold claim. And, they weren't wrong either. It's good to be optimistic at the start of a season, but going by Chennai's fortunes in the league, Manzi's prediction seemed a bit far-fetched. Chennai had barely avoided the drop on the last day of the 2017-18 season after winning just four games in total. That season also saw Chennai scoring a mere 15 goals in 18 games that saw them finishing at a lowly eighth spot. If that wasn't enough, the fact that Chennai had only won eight games in the history of their participation in the I-League, further made everyone question Manzi's title claims. But, what eventually unfolded in the recently-concluded season was no less than a fairytale for Chennai and their fans. When we made the dressing room, a mess ððð¦ ! pic.twitter.com/ujIxSGkUFv — Chennai City FC (@ChennaiCityFC) March 9, 2019 Chennai found themselves in trouble even before kicking the ball this season. They lost Michael Soosairaj - their star performer last season - to the riches of Indian Super League (IPL) as he joined Jamshedpur FC for Rs 25 lakh. But, that didn't stop Chennai from dreaming on. They roped in Singaporean football coach, Akbar Nawas, who continued the club's tradition of signing cheaper, but effective, players to bolster the squad for the season. Manzi was roped in from a fourth-division side in Spain, Sandro Rodriguez came from the third division in the Canary Islands and Nelson Gordillo was bought from third-tier Cornella from Catalonia - a Spanish trio that was going to changing the fortunes for Chennai. © Twitter/@ChennaiCityFC As Nawas built his team around the Spanish troika, his aspirations, unlike Manzi, were more realistic and grounded. The Chennai manager was hoping to make it to the "mid table" in the I-League - something they hadn't done in the past. The Coimbatore-based club began the season with an emphatic 4-1 triumph over Indian Arrows which was followed by four wins in five games. Their first loss came against another underdog side Real Kashmir - a team they failed to beat all season. But, that didn't concern them as their high pressing, possession-dominant style of play allowed them to go to the top of the league by December. And, it was the Spanish signings that were carrying Chennai forward. With 21 Goalsâ½, @PeterManzi19 is the Joint Top scorer of @ILeagueOfficial 2018-19 ð#Champions #NammaTamizhagam #WeareCCFC #Lions pic.twitter.com/yVnusHwGIt — Chennai City FC (@ChennaiCityFC) March 11, 2019 An exceptional centre-forward, Manzi bamboozled opposition defenders with his pace and skills. For someone who managed to score goals at will, Manzi also held the ball pretty well and engaged defenders to create spaces for his teammates. His long-rage strike against Aizawl secured vital points for his side. And, another hat-trick against Gokulam saved Chennai the blushes in a closely-contested clash. If Manzi, who began the season with a brilliant hat-trick against the Arrows, was raking in one goal after another, the midfield duo of Rodriguez and Gordillo provided Chennai the vision to break through the tightest of defence. The two Spanish midfielders showcased the ability to play in a variety of positions as they were often seen shuffling flanks to keep the opposition guessing. Looks who's flying ð @roh00#Champions #NammaTamizhagam #WeareCCFC #Lions pic.twitter.com/7oH8Y9wTzH — Chennai City FC (@ChennaiCityFC) March 10, 2019 While Gordillo developed a knack for finding Manzi with his defence-splitting passes, Rodriguez's ability to score from set-pieces further aided Chennai through their campaign. The Spanish trio of Manzi, Gordillo and Rodriguez showcased patience, understanding and skill over the course of the season in a partnership that kept Chennai in the hunt for the title. In the end, Chennai thwarted East Bengal's challenge and claimed the title by beating Minerva Punjab 3-1. After a 0-0 deadlock in the first-half, Manzi got Chennai in front in 56th minute before defender Gaurav Bora's brace (69', 90+2') sealed the game for the hosts. While Manzi finished the season with 21 goals, Gordillo appeared to be in a league of his own with 44 key passes. And, the fact that 40 out of the 48 goals scored by Chennai this season came through their Spanish trio, further highlights their importance in Nawas' side. Champions! Champions! ðð#HeroILeague #ILeagueIConquer pic.twitter.com/h8JIVJz7xl — Hero I-League (@ILeagueOfficial) March 9, 2019 Claiming their maiden I-League title, Chennai have become the first team from Tamil Nadu to be crowned champions. And, they achieved the feat just two years after getting promoted to the first division. For a team that was fighting relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, Chennai's marauding run to the I-League is no less than a fairytale that will be an inspiration for generations to come.
  4. One of the well-known and respected managers in club football, Brendan Rodgers shot to fame after an impactful stint with Swansea City. His two-season stint from 2010 to 2012 also earned him the high-profile managerial job with Liverpool - one of the biggest and most popular football clubs in the world. But, after spending four years with the Reds, Rodgers departed for a different challenge in the Scottish Premiership with champions Celtic. Over a course of three seasons, the 46-year-old won seven successive trophies including the first ever 'Double Treble' (a treble in two consecutive seasons) in the history of Scottish football history. #WelcomeBrendan𦠗 Leicester City (@LCFC) February 26, 2019 However, despite leading the Scottish club to the Premiership title this season, Rodgers couldn't really refuse the call of 2015-16 Premier League champions Leicester City. On 26th February, the Foxes unveiled Rodgers as their new manager following the sacking of Claude Puel who was earlier in charge for 16 months. Marking a return to the Premier League, the Northern Irishman said: "I'll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club. Together, we'll be stronger and I'm looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward". "I'm joining a fantastic club." ðµ Hear from our new First Team Manager as we say #WelcomeBrendanð — Leicester City (@LCFC) February 26, 2019 "I'm absolutely delighted to bring a manager of Brendan's calibre to Leicester City. I look forward to seeing what he, our talented, young squad and our dedicated, skilled team of staff can achieve together," club vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said. © Reuters Rodgers will be Leicester's fourth permanent manager in 23 months after Puel, Craig Shakespeare and 2015-16 Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieri were all sacked. Whether Rodgers will be able to change the fortunes for Leicester or not, it remains to be seen. But, the football fans expressed their views over Rodgers' appointment on social media. 5. If you're a football fanatic, you know it's that time of the year. Champions League? Of course. Premier League? Totally. Domestic cup competitions? Hell yeah! But what all of this brings in is frustrating, controversial and game-changing decisions from the referees. © Manchester Evening News Agreed, they're only human so they can make mistakes but if various footballing theories are to be believed, sometimes the bogus decisions are given just to influence the overall look of the season or worse, a referee hunting for the limelight. Whether it's Chelsea getting robbed of second straight Champions League final (2009) because of atrocious refereeing or Bayern Munich being denied clear penalties against Real Madrid, we've seen it all. Quite often UEFA has been branded 'UEFALona' and 'UEFAMadrid' just to showcase the organization's sudden 'soft corner' for the Spanish clubs. And it was hard to disagree with. Chelsea vs Barcelona semi-final was said to be doctored by UEFA itself, in order to avoid an 'all English finale' (Manchester United other finalists) for two years in a row, thinking it'll affect the popularity as well as TV ratings of the competition. With the introduction of VAR) (Video Assistant Referee) in Champions League, it was a different ball game (pun intended) last night. VAR is just like DRS in cricket but for football. © Reuters In one of the most anticipated ties of the round of 16, Atletico Madrid faced Juventus at Wanda Metropolitano. It was merely 27 minutes on the clock when Atletico was awarded a penalty for De Sciglio's alleged foul on Diego Costa. The decision was correctly overturned by VAR since the foul happened outside of the box. That was not the only contribution of Video Assistant Referee as it again came to Juventus' rescue, this time Alvaro Morata's thumping header gave Atletico the lead before VAR intervened and decided against it. © Manchester Evening News VAR's influence was felt 1800 kms North of Madrid in Gelsenkirchen (Germany) as well. Schalke were the clear underdogs coming into this match, thanks to their plummeting domestic form under manager Domenico Tedesco. After conceding an early goal due to defensive chaos, the German side came back in the contest when VAR awarded Schalke a penalty, after Nicolas Otamendi handled the ball, which was earlier denied by the on-field referee. However, a decision like this couldn't help Schalke deal with City's immense quality as the English club cruised to victory even with down to 10 men. After a successful World Cup, VAR has proven time and again that it is what 'the beautiful game' needs in order to keep it fair. The only concern is that it is a machine and chances of a machine failing are very high. On average it takes only about a minute or so for VAR to arrive at a decision but last night it took about three, which is a lot considering the quick nature of football and how you only need a second to change the game. Although UEFA clarified that the delay was caused because of the faulty pitch side monitor, but delays like these cannot be ignored. All in all, VAR has its pros and cons but one thing that it can guarantee is extinction of infamous moments like Hand Of God, Neuer's Ghost Save Vs England, Thiago Motta's Red Card Vs Barcelona and many more. Here are the best Twitter reactions on VAR from last night. This match is the best advertise for VAR. Great stuff. — hash (@hashim0307) February 20, 2019 I've no problem with the decisions VAR made but Jesus Christ it cannot take that long, like many have said, if it takes over 2 and half minutes to figure out it definitely isn't clear and obvious — Camobabo (@CamoBabo) February 21, 2019 #VAR is just like giving a kid a gun !!!! — khalid alkhattaf (@AlkhattafKhalid) February 21, 2019 What a phenomenal game #ATLJUV was. But I'm still and never will be a fan of #VAR — Michael Constantinou (@theGroupMikeC) February 21, 2019 The hand ball rule is stupid. Judging whether or not something is deliberate when the ball is travelling that fast is impossible. With VAR I'd expect them to have a better understanding but obviously not. — Calum (@CalArsenal) February 21, 2019
  6. In the Premier League title race this season, Manchester City have found a potent challenger in Liverpool who are giving the defending champions a run for their money. Such has been the level of competition between the two Premier League giants that it has made the ongoing season an absolute cracker for the fans. With the tournament nearing a befitting finale, there is no margin for error for City and Liverpool as they chase the top honours. Thus, when the Pep Guardiola side squared off against Chelsea over the weekend, all eyes were on City to keep their title dreams alive. For a team that found themselves chasing Liverpool following their shock loss to Newcastle United earlier, City showed no signs of panic or lacklustre play during their rampaging 6-0 triumph against the Blues at the Etihad. While Sergio Aguero bagged yet another hat-trick of goals, Raheem Sterling scored a brace alongside Illkay Gundogan's strike to cut a sorry figure for Maurizio Sarri's side. © Reuters The Blues conceded four goals in the first 25 minutes and eventually gave away two more by the final whistle to register their worst result since 7-0 drubbing to Nottingham Forest in 1991. It was also their third straight defeat in an away game which further irked the Chelsea faithful. The result undeniably left the visitors red-faced and the travelling fans were clearly not impressed. Owing to their dismal outing, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger approached the stands where the away fans were seated and apologised for their poor show. But, one fan wasn't ready to accept Rudiger's apology. Rudiger staying to apologise to Chelsea fans. At least he cares pic.twitter.com/lmLyEprK1c — Lewis (@CarefreeLewisG) February 10, 2019 Responding to Rudiger's apology, the fan gave a mouthful to the Chelsea defender over their dreadful performance. In reply, Rudiger reportedly yelled back at the fan before exchanging heated comments with him. According to Football.London, Rudiger said: "I've come over to say sorry, stand in front of me if you've something to say". The former Roma defender climbed over the top of the barricade to speak to the fan. He then, asked the steward if he could cross the barricade to go and talk to the fan in person, though he was not allowed to do so. Later, the footballer gave his shirt to a young fan before joining back his teammates on the ground as the majority of the fans gave him applause. Following their loss, Chelsea now find themselves languishing at the sixth spot in the table. With the Champions League qualification on the line, their current position in the league has surely got their fans worried. But, the biggest problem at hand appears to be their manager Sarri who is expected to have a crucial conversation with the club's owner Roman Abramovich to discuss his future.
  7. Another matchday and yet another epic face-off beckons Premier League's biggest matchday with two of the biggest contenders for this year's title. Yep, you've guessed it right - it's Liverpool vs Manchester City at the Etihad. As far as the Reds are concerned, they would be looking forward to extending their unbeaten run in the EPL. Currently leading the table with 54 points, Jurgen Klopp and his team would be looking to deliver - what could be a pivotal blow - to the Cityzens in the title race. With Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in blistering form, City's backline are likely to have their hands full in a bid to thwart their efforts at goal. And, needless to say, it could pretty much decide the game in either of the side's favour. © Reuters On the other hand, Guardiola's boys would also be looking to reclaim the second spot in the tally, which is currently well guarded by Tottenham Hotspur after their recent triumph over Cardiff City. The Sky Blues did show a lot of character in their last game and, with Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero returning to form, the duo could surely combine to be the aces in the pack in front of the home crowd. While the mega battle between these EPL giants is still a few hours away, the anticipation and excitement of football fans have already transcended on the social media. So I am torn between preferring Liverpool to go on and win the league ahead of Man City; but not wanting Liverpool to get an unbeaten season. But who else can beat Liverpool this season NKT!
