Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) successfully chased down the mammoth total of 210 set by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to register their maiden win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday (March 31). LSG skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock gave their side the perfect start with a partnership of 99 runs. Later, Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni provided the finishing touches to LSG's innings as they got over the line with three balls to spare. READ: @LucknowIPL secured their first victory of the #TATAIPL 2022 in style as they beat #CSK by 6 wickets in a high-scoring thriller. - By @mihirlee_58 Here's the match report #LSGvCSK — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 31, 2022 CSK were ahead in the game till the penultimate over as LSG needed 34 off the last two overs. However, their decision to give the 19th over to Shivam Dube backfired big time as Badoni and Lewis tore him apart and scored 25 runs, bringing down the equation to nine off six. The fact that the last over too was bowled by an experienced youngster Mukesh Choudhary spoke volumes of how the defending champions miscalculated their plans. © Twitter/IPL After being unable to defend 210 runs, head coach Stephen Fleming blamed the dew factor for CSK's plans going haywire out in the field. Fleming compared the dew to 'Niagara Falls' and added that it took their spinners out of the contest and they knew they would be a bowler short in those conditions. Where did it go wrong for CSK in IPL 2022 first two matches? : Disney+Hotstar#MSDhoni #RavindraJadeja #IPL2022 #CSK pic.twitter.com/6izJtXZWJs — CricTracker (@Cricketracker) March 31, 2022 “If you'd looked earlier on, spinning options were taken out of play. Because it was like Niagara Falls in terms of the wetness and they(LSG) played well. So it was very hard to, one, grip the ball for a spinner and, two, to be effective,” Fleming said in the pre-match press conference. "So early on, we were one over short but they played well. We always knew we had to pick up an over somewhere - we were hoping to be able to create enough of a run-rate towards the end that we could squeeze someone in," he added. © Twitter/IPL With dew troubling the bowlers to grip the ball, Jadeja and Moeen Ali collectively bowled three overs and LSG batters capitalised on the inexperience of other bowlers and got the better of the defending champions. Well, CSK is not the only team who found it tough to cope with the dew factor and to get such a weird excuse from their head coach shows that the team is low on confidence, especially with the injury to their premier pacer Deepak Chahar. Indian team is set to take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, starting Thursday (February 24). The Men in Blue will be without a few stars including their former skipper Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant. The team suffered a blow before the start of the T20I series as Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar were ruled out due to injuries. In place of Pant, the selectors have picked Sanju Samson as the backup wicket-keeper. While many were questioning the decision as the team already has a wicket-keeper in the squad in Ishan Kishan, India's all-format captain Rohit Sharma gave his views on why the Kerala-born wicket-keeper batter has been included in the T20I side. "Keep scoring runs and the opportunity will arise." Ahead of the @Paytm #INDvSL T20I series opener, #TeamIndia Captain @ImRo45 shares his message for all the batters playing in the ongoing #RanjiTrophy. pic.twitter.com/Kz6ExofX4R — BCCI (@BCCI) February 23, 2022 On the eve of the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka, Rohit said that Samson has a good backfoot game which will benefit the team on bouncy tracks in Australia, where the next T20 World Cup will be played later this year. "That guy has got talent. Whenever we have seen him bat, he has produced an innings where everyone goes over the moon watching that. He’s got the skillset to succeed. Now, that’s the whole point about this spot. A lot of people have the skillset, a lot of people have talent. I think it’s up to Sanju how he utilises his talent and how he can maximize it,” Rohit said in a pre-match virtual presser. “His backfoot play is superb. Some of his shots, you must have seen during the IPL, the pick-up pull, the cut shots, standing and delivering over bowler’s head – those types of shots are not easy to play. When you go to Australia, you need those kinds of shot-making abilities and Samson definitely has it in him,” he added. Both had enormous talent coming in to the team as a youngsters. Samson can destroy any opposition at will. Just needs right backing. Manifesting a good series for him.#INDvsSL#IndianCricketTeam https://t.co/H05BaLpMpW — Nikhil kundar (@halfvolleyy) February 23, 2022He reminds of young Rohit Sharma...Such great timer of the ball. https://t.co/ORyrggnE68 — Vinay (@VinzCric) February 23, 2022Like Rohit, Samson too was hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket but the 27-year-old failed to perform consistently and could not capitalise on the chances he got at the international level. Getting the backing of the skipper ahead of a series would keep Samson in high spirits as he gears up for an audition for a place in the squad as the Men in Blue look to identify players for the upcoming World Cup. With less than a week left in the start of the Test series against South Africa , the Indian players practised on the centre wicket for the first time at the Supersport Park in Centurion since they landed there. However, it wasn’t an ideal start as Virat Kohli and Co. were faced with an immediate challenge as the conditions for their first open nets session were pretty hostile. The 22-yard strip had a fair covering of grass on it and if that was not enough even the weather favoured the bowlers, with overcast conditions making batting in the middle even more difficult. pic.twitter.com/2rAUrlo9Xe — BCCI (@BCCI) December 19, 2021 While for the batters, the conditions were hostile but for the fast bowlers it was almost a perfect start to their bowling practice and they made the most of it. There was extra bounce on the wicket and Mohammed Shami bowled a barrage of bouncers, putting the Indian batters in a spot of bother, testing their skills against rising deliveries. “Today was the centre-wicket practice session. Unfortunately for us it was a fresh wicket with overcast conditions, pretty challenging for the batters. So, the way they went about it today, extremely happy with that,” batting coach Vikram Rathour said. Obviously when we walked we thought it would be sunny. It’s always challenging from bowlers’ perspective as well to hit the right areas. This kind of conditions you get in a Test match you should be able to exploit those conditions,” bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said in the video posted on BCCI.TV. #TeamIndia had an intense nets session at SuperSport Park in the build up to the first #SAvIND Test. The Rainbow Nation is the only major cricket playing country where Team India has never won a red-ball series. The last time Kohli and his men toured the Southernmost country on the African continent, they managed to win the limited-overs series but fell short in the longest format, suffering a 2-1 series loss.
