  1. The 91-year-old track and field athlete passed away a day earlier from coronavirus-related complications
  2. The morning of January 16 brought along some unfortunate news for the Indian cricket fraternity as reports confirmed the death of Himanshu Pandya, the father of all-rounders Hardik and Krunal Pandya. Elder brother Krunal was in the middle of the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign, leading the Baroda side. However, he has not left the bio-bubble of the tournament and is staying with his family in the time of mourning, according to association secretary Ajit Lele. © Twitter/Sports Freak Hardik, who came back home after helping the Indian cricket team win the T20I series against the hosting Australian side, is not playing in the domestic T20 league as he continues to work towards the upcoming series against England. Both Pandya brothers have often spoken about their father's contribution towards their cricketing success. He used to run a minor car finance business in Surat that he wrapped up and came to Baroda when Krunal was seven and Hardik was five. The reason behind this move was solely to give both his sons the best cricket training facilities. He admitted the two future stars into Kiran More’s cricket academy and there has been no looking back ever since. Back in 2017, Hardik had shared a video in which he’d surprised his father with a lavish new car. The video showed his unfiltered reaction and limitless happiness after realising what had happened. So glad to see his face lit up like thatthis is the guy who should get all the happiness in life and deserves all the credit, my dad! pic.twitter.com/G55mBHpraw — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) August 16, 2017 “So glad to see his face lit up like thatthis is the guy who should get all the happiness in life and deserves all the credit, my dad!” Pandya had written in the caption of the tweet. Fans and cricketers from all over the country paid their condolences to the loss of the Pandya brothers. Heartbroken to hear about the demise of Hardik and Krunal's dad. Spoke to him a couple of times, looked a joyful and full of life person. May his soul rest in peace. Stay strong you two. @hardikpandya7 @krunalpandya24 — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) January 16, 2021 Heartbroken to hear about the demise of Hardik and Krunal's dad. Spoke to him a couple of times, looked a joyful and full of life person. May his soul rest in peace. Stay strong you two. @hardikpandya7 @krunalpandya24,” Indian skipper Virat Kohli tweeted. Remember meeting uncle for the first time at motibagh. He was so keen for his sons to play good cricket. My condolences to You and family. May god give you strength to pass through this difficult time @krunalpandya24 @hardikpandya7 — Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) January 16, 2021 "Remember meeting uncle for the first time at motibagh. He was so keen for his sons to play good cricket. My condolences to You and family. May god give you strength to pass through this difficult time @krunalpandya24 @hardikpandya7," tweeted Pathan, himself a former Baroda captain. So sorry to hear the news about your father’s demise @krunalpandya24 @hardikpandya7 Stay strong and lots of strength to both of you. May his soul RIP — Hanuma vihari (@Hanumavihari) January 16, 2021“Our intentions of letting Hardik and Krunal play cricket from a very young age was questioned and criticised by many. But we were not willing to change our plans, and it’s great to see what they have achieved now” - Himanshu Pandya. RIP pic.twitter.com/iN6Vd5vDFE — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) January 16, 2021Terrible news for the Pandya family. Heart goes out to @hardikpandya7 and @krunalpandya24. You told me of the role your father played in you guys becoming the cricketers you did. Wish you strength. — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) January 16, 2021 View the full article

  4. At a time, when the cricket fraternity was just coming to terms with the sudden demise of Dean Jones, another shocking news appears to have rattled everyone associated with the gentleman's game. The younger brother of former South African cricketer Vernon Philander has been shot dead a few metres away from his home in Ravensmead, Cape Town. According to media reports, Philander's brother Tyrone was delivering a trolley with water to a neighbour when he was shot. As per an African News Agency (ANA) reporter, Tyrone's mother Bonita, accompanied by a family member, watched in horror as her 32-year-old son's body lay in the street. Always obliging his fans with selfies and even hugs, Ranveer has garnered a huge fan base across the country. In a saddening development, an ardent fan of the 'Padmaavat' star, Jatin Dulera, breathed his last yesterday, as he reportedly collapsed in his bathroom and stopped breathing. The news of Jatin's death started making rounds on social media, as a post on Instagram said, “Gone too soon, bro. An ardent #ranveersingh fan #JatinDulera died today out of a sudden accident. An ardent #ranveersingh fan #JatinDulera died today out of a sudden accident. He was just getting ready to go to office and collapsed in his bathroom as his breathing stopped. Jatin was happy teen who was not into any bad habbits whatsoever. He had lost his father at a very early age and has two younger siblings. His mom works in a government firm and he worked in the building where #farhanakhtar has his office in bandra. One of my followers, he often tipped me about celebs whereabouts and sometimes even contributed videos to me but never wanted me to credit him. He also had asked me if he could join me. His funeral took place at Shivaji Park where around 700 friends of his turned up. Keep smiling Jatin like you always did, we will miss you #rip @iamjatin_753 A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) on Jun 10, 2019 at 10:34am PDT As soon as Ranveer got to know of Jatin's sudden demise, he took to Instagram to share a collage of photos with his fan and captioned it, "RIP li'l homie".
