  1. If you werenât aware of a gaming console called the âNintendo PlayStationâ then you arenât entirely wrong as it never officially launched. It is perhaps the rarest gaming console on earth. It was a prototype developed by Nintendo and Sony but never saw the light of the day as Nintendo betrayed the Japanese company and opted to use a Phillips CD Drive on the base for the Super Nintendo. It was quite a fiasco as Sony announced their partnership, Nintendo announced plans to bring a CD Drive with Phillips the very next day. © Nintendo/Sony There arenât many prototypes of the Nintendo Playstation out there and this particular one sold for $360,000 (INR 2,66,38,920.00) at auction. Thereâs a good chance that this is the only unit in existence as only 20 were made. It attracted around 57 bids that ranged from $15,000 to $45,000 before reaching the magic number of $360,000. Amongst the people who placed a bid on the console was Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey, who sold Oculus to Facebook for $2.3 billion. âI am currently the highest bidder on this,â he tweeted on Feb. 13. âWho are the other nutters who keep bidding against me?â © Twitter We donât know who won the auction as the bidder has asked to remain anonymous. However, the person now owns one of the rarest gaming consoles on earth from the early 1990s. The console is rumoured to play both SNES cartridges and CD-ROM games, however no games were launched that worked on the console. Having said that, the console does work as it was tested by the auctioneers with a SNES Mortal Kombat cartridge and the disc drive can also play audio CDs. The Nintendo PlayStation was announced in 1991 at CES, however the partnership fell through as Nintendo was concerned that Sony had been given too much control over the systemâs software licensing. 2. PUBG Mobile hype is causing some serious trouble in countries like India where a lot of people are currently dealing with gaming addiction. While some people have been arrested, others have even lost their lives or ended up with broken marriages. But PUBG Mobile developer Tencent Games, on the other hand, is enjoying by cashing in on all the hype. According to a new report from intelligence firm, Sensor Tower, Tencent has crossed $4.8 million a day in May. Yes, the company literally made $4.8 million a day i.e. over Rs. 33 Crores a day from PUBG Mobile and it's clone called Game For Peace that it launched in China. © PUBG Mobile With that, Tencent is now said to own the world's highest grossing mobile app and the highest grossing mobile game, which is just insane. Do make a note that these are just estimates, but even the exact value is expected to be somewhere in the same ballpark. The total amount is said to be 126-percent higher quarter on quarter in comparison to the $65 million that PUBG Mobile grossed in April 2019. It's also worth pointing out that the estimate excludes Android revenue from China. Of the total revenue earned by Tencent from PUBG Mobile and the new Game for Peace, over $101 million came from Apple's App Store and $45.3 million from Google's Play Store. The revenue from both games, when put together, is about 17-percent more than $125 million made by Honor of Kings, which is yet another smash hit title published by Tencent. © PUBG Mobile Sensor Tower's Head of Mobile Insights, Randy Nelson, who shared all this information, said, “App Store and Google Play users worldwide spent an average of $4.8 million per day last month between both PUBG Mobile versions. The chief rival to both of Tencent's titles, Fortnite from Epic Games, had its best month so far in 2019 on iOS, but its total player spending of $43.3 million was only about 43 percent of Game for Peace and PUBG Mobile's combined take for May.”
  3. The final season of 'Game of Thrones' premiered yesterday amidst a lot of hullabaloos all over the globe. Known for its incredible cliff-hangers for the season finale(s), the first episode saw 'GoT' fans in the country waking up at 6:30 am to catch the episode before all the spoilers and theories clogged their social media feeds throughout the day. © HBO However, with the cast's worldwide popularity skyrocketing now more than ever, it got us wondering how much salary each of the leading actors is pocketing in the final season of the series. © HBO According to an Evening Standard report, lead actors Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), who were taking home 500,000 US dollars per episode before season 8, have now received a good hike for the final season with an additional boost of 210,000 US dollars. Here is how much the leading 'Game of Thrones' cast is earning per episode in season 8: 1. Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) © HBO Salary - $ 710,000 or Rs. 49,131,867 ( Rs 5 crores approx.) 2. 4. While there are certainly plenty of 'rich people' who choose to spend money on expensive houses, sports cars, and luxury hotels, there are plenty of millionaires who choose not to spend all their money frivolously on eye-candy items. They have other plans like recreating a battle royale game in real life. That's right, an unnamed millionaire with deep pockets is planning to set up a real-life 100-person PUBG battle royale event on a private island. Ya right, talk about PUBG addiction. © YouTube According to an advertisement on HushHush, a luxury product marketplace dubbed the 'Amazon for millionaires', an anonymous rich guy is looking for a gamemaker who can help organize the three-day battle royale event. There's still a lot that we don't know about this competition, but we do know that it'll happen on a private island and the last person standing will walk away with £100,000. It'll apparently be a 12 hour competition during which the players will also get food and camping equipment. And don't worry, nobody's getting killed in the game because the players will be using airsoft gun instead of a real gun. Well, that's all the info that we have with us about this event right now. Hopefully, the richie rich will talk more about it as things begin to take shape. In the meantime, interested gamemakers who are willing to help making this a reality can apply for the position at the HushHush website, and the project pays around £45,000 for a six week contract. Yeah, this person is literally spending close to £150,000 (over Rs. 1 Cr) setting up this event, so let's see how it goes.
  5. The past year for the Real Madrid F.C. has been a real struggle. Starting with Cristiano Ronaldo's exit from the roster for Juventus back in July 2018 for a massive €100 million contract, Los Blancos found themselves in one of the biggest slumps of their entire history as they lost rather badly to Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax (AFC Ajax) in the Round of 16 matchup of the Champions League in a 1-4 (3-5 on aggregate) goals defeat. After the massive upset, the team's management has decided to start afresh after firing Santiago Solari, the pride of Argentine football under whose interim reign, Real Madrid saw very little to no improvement. Bringing back Zinedine Zidane to head the city to the glory it had seen during the three seasons he was the manager there, team president Florentino Pérez Rodríguez is now aiming to upgrade Los Blancos' home-ground. For days now, Real Madrid F.C. have been boasting about their plans to give Santiago Bernabéu, a giant and high-tech facelift. ðð Take a look at the plans for the new Santiago Bernabéu! #HalaMadrid pic.twitter.com/ntXWHidlaa — Real Madrid C.F. ð¬ð§ðºð¸ (@realmadriden) April 2, 2019 According to TOI, the ameliorating will take about four years to complete with the stadium being fully functional by 2023. The new features will include a retractable roof, a titanium outside wall, along with a 360-degree scoreboard. In order to increase revenue generation out of the new customisations, the pedestrian areas will be installed with a huge megastore, multiple restaurants and bars, and also a museum dedicated to the stars and moments of the club. "We want this to be a great digital stadium of the future, and it will be paid for by the income its renovation will provide," said Perez. "And it will make Real Madrid more competitive at a time when the footballing landscape is becoming ever less certain." What is rather odd about the plans, however, is that the project which is going to set Perez's bank account back by € 525 million approximately, does not include any ideas of increasing the seating capacity of Bernabéu by a single chair. Real's rivals, Barcelona F.C., on the other hand, are amidst an upgradation of Camp Nou's capacity from 99,000 to 105,000 and will be good to go by 2023 as well.
  6. The Lok Sabha Election fervour is at its peak now, and political parties are leaving no stones unturned when it comes to promoting their parties on social media. As spotted by the folks over at altnews, it looks like some pro-BJP pages on Facebook are dropping a lot of money on Facebook to reach the masses. And we're talking in crores here. So how much money are we talking here and what are these people promoting? altnews took some help from Facebook's new ad transparency tool, that helps you keep an eye on the pages that are spending money on Facebook to promote their propaganda. You can check out the tool right here. © Facebook As you can see, the screenshot, which shows the top five spenders from March 17, 2019, to March 23, 2019, are all pro-BJP pages. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat”, “My First Vote For Modi”, “Nation with NaMo”, are all pages that support BJP. In fact, these aren't the only pages. You'll see a lot of pages promoting BJP. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat” is the top spending page that has dropped over Rs. 1 Crore on these ads. Each of the ads put up by these pages has anywhere between 10K to 50K impressions, and they have more than a few ads running at the same time. Clearly, these pages are reaching out to millions of Facebook users across the country. © Facebook In fact, some pages are even going as far as giving away freebies like merchandise to lure voters. The range of freebies offered by these pages includes badges, bags, T-shirts, phone covers, and more. “Pledge your first vote for PM Modi for the better India and win exciting goodies”, reads one of the ads. Of course, there's no way to tell how much of this is real. Even if it's the case, we hope people aren't falling for these practices and casting their votes for, say, a bag or a t-shirt.
  7. So, bird racing is a sport… right? And a really popular one at that, especially in China where the idea of birds competing in long-distance races makes people drop whatever they are doing and watch the Aves go head to head. That's alright, we aren't judging. It is a free world and people have the right to love and feel passionate about whatever it is that makes their blood rush. What we are concerned about is how far can that passion take a man. PIPA, an online portal that sells racing pigeons, hosted an auction that ran for two straight weeks, during which they put up Armando, the Belgian city dove, known for his accurate sense of direction and strong wings, on the auctioning booth and the world went mental. In the five years of his existence, Armando, under the care of his trainer Joël Verschoot, 63, has gotten a reputation of being called the 'Lewis Hamilton of pigeons' and finds tricky weather conditions to be a “piece of cake” according to Verschoot's brochure. According to his former master, Armando has been ranked number 1 in bird races for two back to back years (2017 and 2018) and was the best pigeon to have travelled across Europe for competition in 2018. © PIPA His glory was surely known to the world, more specifically in China which saw nearly half a dozen enthusiasts bidding for the champion. With hourly bids rising by €100,000 the final bid worth €1,252,000 (Rs 10 Crores, approx.) came in a couple of minutes before the closing to the auction at midnight last Sunday, according to The Guardian. “The two Chinese had told me in advance that they absolutely wanted Armando,” Verschoot said after the auction. “But I didn't see this coming. This is a crowning glory of all those years in the pigeon sport. The icing on the cake.” As reported by the Press Association, Nikolaas Gyselbrecht, the founder and chief executive of Pipa, said: “This pigeon has a race record that has never been matched by any other pigeon… In football terms you have Messi and Ronaldo — it's that level.” Armando, who is nearing his retirement, will be made to breed with a “high quality hen” that is already waiting in China after being purchased for a huge amount of money. Twitter was unable to get its mind to accept the fortune of Joël Verschoot, the bird-keeper, who is literally a 'crorepati' now. 8. 'Apex Legends' came out of nowhere and has taken over the battle royale genre with much steam. On its very first day, 'Apex Legends' managed to draw 2.5 million players and has since then garnered over 50 million players recently. © Electronic Arts When 'Apex Legends' was launched, there was no marketing or promotions involved and instead, Electronic Arts invited a few streamers to play the game. One of the sponsored streamers was Ninja and apparently, he was paid $1 million to play for a few hours on launch day, according to Reuters. That's Rs 6.9 crores if you convert it into our local currency. Of course, the partnership was no secret as his stream was labelled as "Apex Legends partner”. A representative from Electronic Arts confirmed to Kotaku that the company did have a marketing campaign in place with content creators at the launch of the game. Getting paid $1 million for two hours of work is a big payday even for Ninja when taking his earnings into consideration. It has been reported earlier that Ninja was paid $600,000 to take part in a single event last year. © YouTube EA's gamble to pay off streamers for promotions seems to have paid off as Apex Legends has managed to rake in a massive number of players in just a month. Apex Legends is a free-to-play game on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is all set to receive a new update that will introduce its own battle pass for players to earn cosmetic items and in-game rewards. Source: Reuters
  9. When you have so much money that you don't even know what to do with it, you start spending it on honestly the most bizarre, frivolous things. Case in point - Drake's new diamond encrusted iPhone case. Oh, and it apparently cost him $400,000 which is exactly â¹2,85,92,000. Basically, while we're all struggling to even afford an iPhone, he spent the money it would take to buy, say 400 iPhones, on a single phone case. I mean, it's his money and he can do whatever he wants with it, so Champagne Papi just decided to call everyone a broke bitch at the same time. Well, here's the cover, and please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this is a little tacky. View this post on Instagram Because we can't do basic! Diamond iPhone case cover for our friend @champagnepapi ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ A post shared by JASON OF BEVERLY HILLS (@jasonofbeverlyhills) on Feb 14, 2019 at 5:21am PST Not so basic, for sure. But, I still have some questions - What will happen when a new iPhone comes and it's time for Drake to upgrade? Will he stick to his current iPhone or drop another half a million dollars on a case? Is he being this extra just because he has a song called 'hotline bling' and this is literally hotline bling come to life? Does this case offer any extra protection when his phone inevitably falls? Will the diamonds prevent a broken screen? But, most importantly, I'm just scared of him losing his phone or someone stealing it. I mean, it would hurt us if we lost our iPhone, but he would not just lost his iPhone but 3 crore worth of diamonds as well. It hurts just thinking about it. Drake, be careful man, your phone is probably a target now.

  11. Well, India is finally home to the largest statue in the entire world. What an achievement! And it only cost the country just a little under Rs 3000 crore to be able to say that. Totally worth it, right? Today was the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the Statue of Unity, built as a tribute to freedom movement icon Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary. Built at the cost of Rs 2989 crore, the statue obviously deserved a grand inaugural event and it was as grand as ever. On the banks of the Narmada stands the majestic statue of a great man, who devoted his entire life towards nation building. It was an absolute honour to dedicate the #StatueOfUnity to the nation. We are grateful to Sardar Patel for all that he did for India. pic.twitter.com/q2F4uMRjoc — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) October 31, 2018 It took 250 engineers, 3,400 labourers and 33 months, but it's finally here. Along with how the money could've helped with a number of things for the betterment of the country, the statue also cost a bunch of tribal communities living in the vicinity their homes as they had to be displaced for this ambitious project. Well, the 'Statue of Unity' has definitely united people in saying how it was a waste of money. Here's what people are saying on Twitter. The scariest thought. Happy Halloween guys. 12. Seems like the Vikas Bahl drama amidst the #MeToo movement is getting murkier by the day. After being accused of harassment and misconduct by Kangana Ranaut and another employee of Phantom Films, the director has been under the radar, as far as his social image is concerned. © Instagram Recently the co-founders of Phantom Films, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramditya Motwane announced that the production house was being dissolved. pic.twitter.com/5Fz6792AWy — Vikramaditya Motwane (@VikramMotwane) October 5, 2018 Phantom was a dream, a glorious one and all dreams come to an end . 14. Duping people for money is an old trick in any criminal's handbook but duping a royal family by hacking their e-mail ID has to be one of the most audacious crimes one can ever come across. A 47-year-old man from Kerala was arrested on Wednesday for hacking the email ID of a Qatar royal family member and illegally amassing Rs 5.2 crores. © Twitter The accused Sunil Menon had been to Qatar many times before and had even previously worked in the country. A complaint lodged against him accused the Keralite of offering to sell gold-plated paintings of Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Qatar Museum Authority. He orchestrated the sale by hacking the email-id of Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the sister of the Amir and the head of the Qatar Museum Authority. His modus operandi simulated that of a seasoned criminal as he sent the mails on behalf of the royal family to the museum informing them of a deal with an American Jerome Napolean to sell painting of Amir to the museum. He then directed the museum to pay Rs 5.2 crores of advance payment to Napolean's account. Later on, he directed the museum through the hacked email-id to transfer the amount to his own bank account. Not in the know how of such dealings, the museum followed the instructions. However, the IT experts in the financial auditing team detected something askew in those unverified emails. © scoopempire As soon as the financial analysis wing of the royal family filed a complaint against Sunil in Thrissur, the Rs 4.5 crores in Sunil's account were frozen and Sunil was caught from Kochi trying to flee the country. An amount of Rs 1.5 lakhs was also seized from the accused in cash and he's now in official custody.
  15. With airports being the latest fashion battleground for everyone in Bollywood, the star kids seem to have caught on to it effortlessly (not that you have a choice there, especially if you're planning on jumping on to the bandwagon soon). The latest entrant to that club is our home prince Aryan Khan. He was spotted wearing a super edgy outfit comprising of a ripped and distressed sweatshirt and untied shiny silver sneakers - an outfit we think will transform SRK into every Indian dad ever - who will surely have something or the other to comment about the outfit. Knowing SRK's expertise at savage comments, it's bound to be something delightfully snarky. (c) Viral Bhayani Aryan's grey sweatshirt is a Placebo Paradise Distressed Cotton French Terry Sweatshirt by Ksubi. Aryan clearly has a thing for this very aesthetic, because he has several pairs in different colours. He was spotted wearing one in pink a few months ago. (c) Instagram For lowers, Aryan chose a hypebeast looking knee-zippered pair of trousers that stand out in its own right, when compared to the piece just above that is giving it tough competition. (c) Viral Bhayani The way Aryan has decided to wear his footwear, is perhaps more interesting than his choice of footwear in itself (if that's possible). He is wearing a pair of shiny disco silver sneakers - an inspiration from Karan Uncle, perhaps? But what we are more interested in, is the fact that he has kept his shoelaces completely untied. We can totally see SRK pointing and laughing when his son trips and falls. (c) Viral Bhayani We don't know a lot about Aryan but if his sense of humour is anything like his dad's, he'll be ready with a hilarious comeback, we're sure. It's a good outfit, Aryan. We approve!

Kenny came to Abu Dhabi for recce and he loved the location. He wanted to shoot everything live. Almost 90% of whatever that we are going to show on screen is real. He wanted to show the real cars. He wanted the real cars to fly. We crashed around 27 cars and five trucks. We wanted everything real instead of going for CGI as it gives a real impact. Generally, you have 70% CG and 30% real but over here in Abu Dhabi, we opted for a more real shoot. This will be something that no one has seen before”. © Instagram “We are all excited to be shooting in Abu Dhabi - friends in the industry have told me that it's an incredible filming destination boasting awe-inspiring landscapes, and it is certainly living up to that reputation. I've been impressed at the level of support we've received from twofour54, the local crew, the fans, and the government, who are all going out of their way to make things as smooth as possible”, he added. 'Saaho' is going to be the second longest Indian movie which is being shot in UAE after 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. The action sequence is reportedly being shot over 20 days.
  18. The IPL 2018 season is about to conclude and while so many rookie players got chances to not only showcase their talent, everyone also managed to make some insane extra bucks. However, the same cannot be said about the IPL cheerleaders. The women who work hard and sweat it out to add the glam quotient, sadly take a tiny portion of the money back home. Here's a breakdown of how much money the cheerleaders make: 1. Delhi Daredevils: The team that has been swimming in dangerous waters ever since the season commenced doesn't really pay much to its cheerleaders as well. On an average, they make around 250-260 k per annum, which boils down to around Rs.10,000 a match. © MensXP 2. Kings XI Punjab: One might think the Punjabis have a big heart, but turns out it's only for the players. The cheerleaders here make around Rs. 10,000 per match with no extra bonus. © MensXP 3. Rajasthan Royals: Slightly more royal than its counterparts, the cheerleaders for this team end up getting paid around Rs. 12,000 per match. © MensXP 4. Royal Challengers Bangalore: Mr. Kohli is not the only visual delight in this team. The cheerleaders are paid a mere amount of around Rs. 6,800 per match, but they usually get a bonus of around Rs. 3,200 if their team wins. © MensXP 5. Mumbai Indians: The cheerleaders of the team that belongs to India's richest family earn around Rs. 6,800 per match with a bonus of around Rs. 6,500 more if the team wins. Thus their annual income amounts to the second highest rank in pay at around Rs. 800-820 k per annum. © MensXP 6. Sunrisers Hyderabad: Though relatively new to the lineup, the cheerleaders get a decent amount of Rs. 10,000 per match and an annual package of Rs. 250-260 k. © MensXP 7. Chennai Superkings: They have mostly had a relatively successful run in IPL and they pay their cheerleaders around Rs. 10,000 per match. © MensXP 8. Kolkata Knight Riders: King Khan owns the team and therefore he pays like a king would. The cheerleaders get paid around Rs.20,000 per match and when you add the bonus, their annual package goes up to around Rs.1120-1140 k. © MensXP IPL cheerleaders anyway have to deal with a lot and their revelations about what happens during the season is also not a very pleasant read. The prop storage facility in Los Angeles has reported about the theft, stating that it went missing between February and April 25. They have considered it as a burglary. © Twitter The iconic maroon-gold suit was worn by Robert Downey Jr. in 'Iron Man' that released in 2008, directed by Jon Favreau. Iron Man was the movie that started off the behemoth that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has turned out to be, as the highest grossing film franchise in history. © Twitter The suit is valued at an estimated $325,000 (more than INR 2 Crores). Over the course of the movies and Iron Man's appearances, however, the suit has undergone a major transformation. Starting from the solid AF DIY Mark , it transformed multiple times, according to the characteristics and specializations of the armors associated. In the latest appearance of Iron Man in 'Avengers: Infinity War', his suit was made out of nanobytes that could envelope his body with the touch of a button. © Twitter Well, all we can say is that it looks like the supervillains are at it again. 20. Our country is rich in history, probably richer than most nations in terms of cultural heritage as well. The age-old temples, walls, and monuments in our country are living proof of a history that tells tales of warriors, conquests, and struggles of Indians in different eras. The Red Fort is one such iconic heritage monument in India, from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation on every Independence Day. If you have been to Old Delhi to witness this beauty, then you know how majestic it looks. However, things for the Red Fort and many other monuments in the country are now changing. The monument has now been 'adopted' by corporate giant Dalmia Group, who will pay 5 crores per year to the government under the newly released 'adopt a heritage scheme'. © Twitter The company signed an MoU with the Tourism ministry and the ASI, and has also taken the Gandikota Fort under its wing. This scheme was launched by the President last year on 'World Tourism Day' in September and the private sector was invited to undertake the task of protecting and uplifting these monuments as per their CSR norms. Surprised? Confused? Yes, it's natural. While we have no objections to our precious monuments being preserved, it feels unnatural that the ASI and the government are shifting a very major responsibility to the private sector. Red Fort is now Dalmia Bharat Red Fort. Won't be surprised to see ITC Taj Mahal. Point is are we going to see the official stamp on India as Adani India before 2019? #ModiLolliPopshttps://t.co/kLw8uiXg2I — Aparna (@chhuti_is) April 27, 2018 So Modi just privatised Red Fort. Literally. Remember those stories where William Bentinck wanted to demolish the Taj and sell off the marble. Modi has allowed Dalmia to do it in name of "development". No questions asked. https://t.co/sCcRHfaIyc — Anubhav Singh (@lucifer_damned) April 27, 2018 Is privatisation of monuments a legit thing now? People are certainly not happy with this move. Also, the company adding their name to the monument is downright insane! Since when can one start 'personalising' national heritage sites? There must be better ways of maintaining a nation's greatest monuments than by auctioning them off to a corporate househttps://t.co/uO66Rr4Hu1 — William Dalrymple (@DalrympleWill) April 27, 2018 Modi gave Red Fort to Dalmia group on the lease of 25 Cr/5 years. Ek ek krke poora desh bech dega ye vyapari . https://t.co/8owBCdQZmD — Md Asif Khan (@imMAK02) April 28, 2018 So we will now have a Dalmia Red Fort, and soon the Jaypee Taj Mahal and the Reliance Parliament House (no pun intended). Kudos #ASI ,the dolts in the respective ministries, well done! — gavish george (@gavishgeorge) April 27, 2018 The government is also planning to get many more monuments in the country 'adopted' and needless to say, there is going to be a huge fight between giants over adopting the Taj Mahal, whenever it happens. We can't really put a finger on who is to blame, and what benefit will this adoption give to us as a country rich in historical lineage. It is flummoxing, it is weird and will definitely take us a while to address it as the 'Dalmia Red Fort'. Please take a moment to swallow this new reality, and if you are a history student, I feel your pain. The ASI should at least address the situation at length and give a legit explanation for this bizarre development.
  21. Becoming a CA is one of the hardest things out there, just talk to a CA or someone who's still in the process of becoming one. And, once you achieve it, after putting in so much hard work, it would be really hard to walk away from it. But, for some people seeking salvation trumps all of that, and this 24-year-old CA from Mumbai is the perfect example of that. Mokshesh Sheth comes from quite a wealthy business family, who own JK Corporation which has interests in diamond, metal and sugar industries, but he has decided to give all of that up to dedicate his life to the Jain community. TOI Along with his family, his own academic achievements are also incredible, but he says he wants to “audit” the religion as a humble student instead of sifting through accounts books. He said, “I was about 15 when I first thought of becoming a Jain monk. I craved internal peace which the material world would not have provided.” Moreover, he added that he wants happiness for all, not just for himself. His uncle said, “Mokshesh was always spiritually inclined and first expressed his wish to become a monk some eight years ago. However, we convinced him to first complete his education and experience the world before taking the leap of faith. In the 200-yearold history of our family, Mokshesh would be the first man from embrace monkhood even though five women have become Jain sadhvis.” Since his decision was finalized this year, his family has organised shobha yatras for Mokshesh at 15 locations in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka. He even inspired his 85-year-old grandfather who wanted to join him, but the senior monks asked him to serve the community while remaining in society. Source – The Times Of India
  22. Event-appropriate dressing can be stressful sometimes. You have to foresee the vibe, the kind of people invited (with respect to social standing) and most importantly, how formal or informal the setting would be like. It's a real task, you see. And it only gets worse if you're a celebrity, who'd be clicked by the bugs with your every possible move and blasted on news portals. John Abraham in this respect, lives quite the hard life. But considering he's John Abraham, he gives no effs about how the planet rotates. He does what he wants to, dresses according to his gut (or personal style?) and sometimes, ends up going against the tide. At Akash Ambani's recent engagement party, the ex-actor chose to do exactly that: © Viral Bhayani If the rule of life is any legit reason, engagement parties call for formal wear or at least, Indian formal wear. And not just for the groom, the male invitees too must dress in formal attires. It's a written rule that must be adhered to. But understandably — rules are meant to be broken. Enter, the only menswear rebel at India's most expensive engagement party that happened on Monday. © Viral Bhayani We're not saying that a suit alone, should tickle your bones at an event such as this. Neither are we asking you to slip into a sherwani, hop onto a ghodi and make an entry. For the latter, however, you'd have a play a rental too, so just avoid it. Coming to the point, 'formal wear for formal settings' was the vibe that existed here. However, on the contrary, John completely turned a deaf ear and transformed this stuation into a sneaker-outing. Dressed in a white T-shirt topped with a checked shirt, classic jeans and crisp white sneakers — there's a lot to discuss about this outfit being worn to an engagement party. But we think, John was playing himself; the flip-flops wearing dude that take rounds of airport terminals. Going by this theory, he's only fulfilled his style-aim with this outfit here. © Viral Bhayani While on any other day, we would have let this pass as another example of a white sneaker-win, but today we're questioning the guy's style leanings. Next time, dress appropriately, homeboy.
  23. Just like the movie 'Hidden Figures' where women proved their mettle with hidden numbers, it seems like Rekha Jhunjhunwala, the co-owner of Rare Enterprises, too has a special eye when it comes to numbers. Her investment portfolio itself tells her whole story. Rekha Jhunjhunwala, the other half of Rakesh Jhunwala, a well known Indian investor and trader, investments just saw a proliferating rise and has earned more than 900 cr in just one year. © TOI According to a report shared by Zee Business, Rekha's investment portfolio has seen a massive growth of 47 percent in a single year. As of March 8, 2017, they were valued at Rs. 1,909 crores and exactly a year later, in March 2018, it states that the value of her portfolio stood at Rs. 2,814 crores. That's a rise of 900 crore which is a pretty big deal. By now you must be interested to get into the number detail of her portfolio and find out where all she invested her money, so here is a little breakdown of her recent investment portfolio. Her 3.17 percent stake in Delta Corp and her 1.53 percent stake in Titan, both separately saw a surge of as much as 80 percent in a year. If you have been following Rakesh Jhunjhunwala's investment strategy, who is also compared to Warren Buffett In India, then you will remember that Titan is the same stock that had helped Mr. Jhunjhunwala add Rs.875 crore to his fortune in a single day. Other major stocks that helped Rekha Jhunjhunwala add 900 cr to her fortune are as follows: © Thinkstock Rekha holds a stake in Aptech (11.47 %), Autoline Industries (3.48 %), D B Realty (2.05 %), and McNally Bharat (4.03 %) all of which saw a rise between 10 to 30 percent. Her other investments include NCC (8.11 percent) and TV18 Broadcast (1.38 percent) both of which surged by almost 50 percent. So, now you have the numbers as well as the stocks that are seeing a remarkable rise, are you now ready to bet big?
  24. We've all been there- the day you THINK you are going to get a big, fat promotion and can't contain your excitement...only to find out that you aren't getting one anytime soon. Quite a bummer, isn't it? Especially when you think you sure-as-hell deserved it. But alas, most of us decide to continue with that 9-5 job of ours, hoping for the best. But our man-of-the-hour David O'Neal decided to take matters into his own hands. And thank God he did. 32-year-old David worked as a banker in London and was earning a pretty decent salary of £32,000 (approx. Rs. 28 lakhs) a year. Although he found his job to be secure, he knew it was time to move on when he was denied a well-deserved promotion. © Facebook (David J O'Neal) With a dream of starting his own business one day, he had his 'eureka' moment quite unexpectedly: while cutting his little boy's hair. He always had a hard time convincing his two boys to sit down for a haircut but he came up with a solution. © Facebook (David J O'Neal) He either used to allow them to use the Playstation or would put on a movie and no points for guessing, the kids loved it. That made him realise that opening up a salon for kids with similar amenities would be turn out to be a great business. His main aim was to turn this otherwise 'daunting' experience for kids into a fun one by surrounding them with things they love. In 2014, he took a loan from the Government-backed Start-Up Loans Company, which offers 6 percent fixed rate on borrowing up to £25,000 and thus, his salon for kids, 'ShortCuts' was born. Brownie points for the name, David! © Facebook (Shortcuts Children's Salon) 'ShortCuts Children's Salon' is unlike any salon that you have seen in your life. Everything is tailored for kids, including the seats which by the way are mini racing cars. Talk about fancy! © Twitter (ShortCuts Children's Salon) Right from the colourful atmosphere to the games available, it is a kid's paradise. Apart from the adorable seats, kids can even play Playstation games or watch a cartoon of their choice. © Facebook (Shortcuts Children's Salon) We are seriously bummed for not being able to get a haircut in a salon like that during our childhood. © Twitter (Shortcuts Children's Salon) Although David employed hairdressers when he started out because obviously, he didn't have the required skills, he soon acquired them. Becoming a hairdresser became his priority and after leaving his job, he soon got the training to become a qualified one. © Twitter (Shortcuts Children's Salon) However, finding hairdressers who would be happy to work with kids wasn't an easy task but David made sure he didn't have to compromise on quality. The employees who work with him now are qualified hairdressers; thus, making his salon a credible one and has also helped him build a loyal set of customers. © Facebook (Shortcuts Children's Salon) Cut to the present, David now has 9 salons running across London thanks to which, David now earns more than £650K (approx. Rs.5 crores) a year. He also plans to expand globally with his successful franchise model. David's leap of faith worked wonders for him and serves as the perfect motivation to start one's own business, no matter how unconventional it may seem to others.
  25. For most Mumbaikars, vada pav is their forever love. But for two Mumbaikars, this delicacy is not just their favourite food but is in fact, their bread and butter. (Pun intended) © Twitter Sujay S Sohani and Subodh Joshi were classmates at Bandra's Rizvi College in 1999 where they studied hotel management. Both of them decided to pursue a postgraduate course from London, after which they both managed to get decent jobs in reputed hotels. Sounds so perfect, right? Well, it was, until 2007, when the recession hit the entire world. Among the unfortunate ones was Sujay, who lost his job at a five-star hotel. © Facebook/Subodh Joshi Disappointed and with no idea as to what he should do, he approached his old friend Subodh and told him how he doesn't even have enough money to buy a vada pav. © Facebook/Sujay S Sohani Little did he know that this joke would change his life forever! The duo decided to take a huge risk and set up a vada pav stall in London. After a lot of research, they decided to settle upon a Police ice-cream cafe in Hounslow. However, the owner of the cafe allowed them to set up two tables for a rent of £400 (Rs. 35,000) a month. In August 2010, they finally opened their stall and started selling vada pav and dabeli at cheap prices. While vada pav was being sold for only £1 (Rs 80) and dabeli for £1.50 (Rs 131), it was still difficult for them to attract the London crowd. They realised soon they need to advertise their product and so they started offering the product for trial in the busy shopping street for free. Their strategy was to sell these 'Indian burgers' for half the price of other burgers that were available. And luckily for them, it worked. Their business started to grow 6 months later and the two tables were soon, not sufficient. © Facebook/Shree Krishna Vada Pav, UK While they did find another stall a few meters away, a Punjabi restaurant called 'Big Bite', approached them and asked if they'd like to do business with them. That was the beginning of the Shree Krishna Vada Pav stall as a restaurant. © Facebook/Subodh Joshi Till then Sujoy retained his old job but after the restaurant opened, he quit his job and started to work full time for the restaurant. Now, they have three branches of their restaurant spread across London and also take orders for weddings and parties. Also, it isn't just vada pav that they are selling now. Their menu now includes 60 street food dishes from India including pav bhaji, vada missal, bhelpuri, paani puri, kachoris , samosa etc. From just two people, Shree Krishna Vada Pav now has 35 employees and an annual turnover of nearly Rs 4.40 crores. Their story is proof that how you react to a crisis is more important that the crisis itself. You can either cry about it for the rest of your life or take it up, heads on and move on to do bigger and better things.
