  1. India ex-skipper Virat Kohli's loss of form has been constant talking point in world cricket till just recently when he got his form back
  2. MS Dhoni’s love for football is no secret. It’s a well-known story that the Ranchi-born became a cricketer by chance after his teacher asked him to ditch the goalkeeping gloves for the wicket-keeping ones during his school days. As they say we never forget our first love and the same is applicable to Dhoni as well. Even though he became one of the greatest cricketers of all-time, he always had a soft corner for football in his heart. © Reuters Having retired from international cricket, the former Indian skipper loved playing football with his friends from Bollywood, including Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor among others. While some of these matches are for charity, others are hard-fought friendly contests. Playing football has been part of Dhoni’s warm-up routine for a long time and it continues to this date. The former CSK skipper was seen kicking away the football in the build-up to their match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2022. While players like Dhoni love playing football before a game, it’s a nightmare for the team’s support staff because they are always worried about the unnecessary injury it can cause, ruling them out of the contest. Speaking on Star Sports’ pre-match show, former India head coach Ravi Shastri shared one interesting story about how he had to yell at Dhoni on top of his voice to stop him from playing football before the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. © Reuters Recalling the incident, the former all-rounder said when he saw Dhoni skid through on the grass that was full of dew just five minutes before the toss, his heart came in his mouth as he was worried about a last-minute injury which could force him out. After Dhoni fell, Shastri said he got so worried that he yelled at him on top of his voice and asked him to stop the game. The 59-year-old admitted that he had never yelled like that on anyone in his life but he had to do it because of the team’s sake. © Reuters “He loves it. And the intensity, you know, with which he plays, it scares you from the outside. You feel hope he doesn't get injured,” Shastri said during a pre-match show on the host broadcasters. “I remember in Asia Cup final, there was dew and went skidding five minutes before toss. I have never yelled like that in my life. 'Stop the game!' I said something like that. You don't want to lose your main player in a game against Pakistan. But to get him out and leave the football that is impossible,” he added. Looking at Dhoni still playing football before a cricket match, it doesn’t seem like Shastri’s shout had any impact. 4. The reigning champions of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings are buried deep in the IPL 2022 points table and are at the 10th spot. They have lost all four of their matches so far and also own the worst Net Run Rate in the tournament. Most of the time, they have not been able to score big but on the rare occasions that they do, their bowling line-up completely shatters and fails to defend the big totals. Batters look out of form, bowlers look out of breath and the fielding has been abysmal from the first match. IPL 2022 points table: pic.twitter.com/yuqKSlZIKr — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) April 9, 2022 And even though their position in the points table reflects a bad look to the entire team and each member of the roster, it sucks especially for the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was made captain by Mahendra Singh Dhoni mere days ahead of the tournament as the latter decided to step down without giving much of an explanation. If you manage to kill your ego, ride out the cringe and somehow end up watching an entire CSK match, you will get a feeling that even though Jadeja’s name has a capital “C” adjacent to it on the scoreboard, it is the man behind the wickets, who continues to command the squad. View this post on Instagram Amid what is arguably the worst start to the IPL season in CSK franchise history, a lot of the blame is falling on Jadeja’s head but is he the right man to be isolated from among a team of misfits? First of all, Jadeja was given the captaincy only two days before the CSK camp was set to get over. He did not get the time to establish that kind of relationship with the squad and did not get the time to create game plans that he would have personally liked to follow. And then there’s the fact that Dhoni continues to command the team, just without the official label this time around. Please don’t blame Jadeja . 6. During the 2019 World Cup in England, Indian cricket fans were saluting the former Indian captain and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for wearing the Para Special Forces' 'Balidaan' insignia on his gloves. The symbol reflects the 'Balidaan' or 'Sacrifice' that Para SF hopefuls make in order to become a part of one of the Indian Army's finest units after years and years of training in extremely difficult circumstances. This man shows his love for the nation and army. A Regimental Dragger(BALIDAN) of Indian Army Para Special Force on MS Dhoni Gloves. #IndianArmy #Balidan pic.twitter.com/P5haUEyQcy — Sachin Joraviya (@SachinJoraviya) June 5, 2019 Despite the fact that the emblem is more of a reward than a badge, as it is only given to a member of the para regiment after they have served for one year in the country's most dangerous areas as active servicemen, Dhoni was given the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel of the unit by then-Indian President Pratibha Patil in 2011. Dhoni also completed a two-week training programme with the Para SF in 2015, which included his maiden para jump. However, within a couple of days after the issue became of international importance, the International Cricket Council (ICC) ordered the BCCI to make Dhoni get rid of the special gloves and wear the ones that were without any such logos. “I would have wanted MS Dhoni to wear the insignia in the World Cup...” says #VinodRai and explains why it was not possible in Backstage With Boria. #BWB Special Promo.@AgeasFederal @msdhoni Full Interview Coming Soon! pic.twitter.com/BiKwquVwUw — Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) April 9, 2022 Talking about the incident on the Backstage of Boria, the former BCCI head Vinod Rai shared why did the Indian cricket board agree to ICC’s demands, even though Dhoni’s gesture did not support any political agenda. “I also feel that it was a small insignia and that he (Dhoni) should be entitled to wearing it. If you recall, in the beginning, we (the BCCI) backed him. But unfortunately, there were 11 pages of ICC rules which went to the details about what the players can wear and not wear and the gloves were also included in those 11 pages. Once, there is a ruling or a regulation, I don’t want the team to be going against that regulation,” Rai said. “Everybody wants to play the game the way the ICC wants to conduct it. We are a part of the entire (organisaiton) and that’s how we persuaded them to stay away from it,” he added. Not too long before this incident, the ICC had allowed the Men in Blue to wear camouflage caps to show their condolences towards the loss of lives of our brave soldiers during the infamous Pulwama terror attack that took place on Valentine's Day, 2019. 7. With 12 required off the last two balls against Punjab Kings, Rahul Tewatia snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat, smashing two maximums to script the most memorable victory for new franchise Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya’s men were cruising at one stage but the PBKS bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada, produced a bowling masterclass to pull things back for their outfit. View this post on Instagram With 19 needed in the last over, PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal chose the West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith to deliver the last six balls. The West Indies star did a brilliant job on the first four balls, conceding only seven runs. From fans to experts, everybody thought that the victory was well within Punjab’s grasp but Rahul Tewatia proved to be their nemesis once again. The Haryana all-rounder, who became a household name after his heroics against PBKS at Sharjah, dispatched the last two balls over the fence to hand GT an improbable victory – completing their hat-trick of wins. View this post on Instagram Just to give you a little context, before Tewatia only one player had smashed cleared the ropes twice with 12 required to win off the last two deliveries. This player was none other than former CSK captain and one of the most explosive batters of this generation MS Dhoni. However, for some reason, instead of celebrating Tewatia’s knock, some of the blind haters started trolling the 40-year-old legendary cricketer by making fun of his finishing skills. Dhoni’s supporters also didn’t sit quietly and hit back at the trolls for disrespecting a player who has won many matches single-handedly for over a decade, both at the international level and in the IPL. Thala scored 23 in the last over when tewatiya was nowhere in his career — Om Dhende (@om_dhende_29) April 8, 2022Hope that fluke alos happened to rcb so that they would have trophy unlike CSK — Arpit Adlakha (@AmbaniSuspended) April 8, 2022He is 41 and at the brink of retirement from IPL. Don't know about you but his fans are happy that he is atleast even playing. — Skydrow (@Akshdee89977744) April 8, 2022Tewatia >>>>> Dhoni — chandan (@CandidBihari) April 8, 2022So now can we do this ? Tewatia >= Dhoni — chandan (@CandidBihari) April 8, 2022 Tewatia is worthy of every praise after what he did on the night against PBKS. If not for his two lusty blows, Titans would have definitely suffered their first defeat of IPL 2022. While celebrating one player’s achievement, it doesn’t mean people have to pull someone else down. It’s true that Dhoni is not the same player he once was but it’s also true that during his peak there was no better finisher in world cricket than him. View this post on Instagram Be it Tewatia or Dinesh Karthik or Ayush Badoni, whenever a batter finishes the game for his side, he is always compared to Dhoni because he is considered to be the benchmark and that tells you everything about how good he was in his prime. We all know Dhoni is in the twilight phase of his career and rather than comparing him to the younger lot, we all must enjoy his remaining time on the field. View the full article
  8. Since the start of the 2017 Indian Premier League season, veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra has been very active on social media. Mishra has been a close watcher of the game from the sidelines after failing to make contact for the first time in years. Amit Mishra has joined the list of cricketers who, more often than not, crack up the internet with their funny quips. He was at his wittiest on Friday when he made a sly remark about Chennai Super Kings, mocking the 4-time winners' approach of going for experienced players over the age of 30. Gujarat Titans are yet to be defeated this season. If they continue the same form, we might see other coaches also giving up laptop and picking up pen and paper like Nehra ji. #IPL #PBKSvGT #TATAIPL2022 pic.twitter.com/4PdlmnBQnu — Amit Mishra (@MishiAmit) April 8, 2022 A fan had asked Mishra if he was interested in joining Chennai Super Kings, and the leg-spinner’s response has gone viral on Twitter. “Sorry mate, Still two years younger for it,” Mishra wrote in response sending a wave of funny reactions all over the internet among cricket fans. Sorry mate, Still two years younger for it. https://t.co/9rCi5SFIz8 — Amit Mishra (@MishiAmit) April 8, 2022 And even though most people enjoyed Mishra’s sense of humour, the joke did not sit well with everyone and ended up triggering a few CSK and MS Dhoni loyalists: Also u r finished !! CSK's average age is over 30, and despite failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in IPL 2020, the defending champions did not undergo a total overhaul. The next year, Chennai not only made a strong comeback under the leadership of a 40-year old Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but they also made their way into the final and ended up winning the whole tournament for the fourth time, making them the second-most successful franchise, behind Mumbai Indians. View this post on Instagram At the IPL 2022 mega auction, Mishra, who played for the Delhi Capitals in 2021, received no takers. Many believed that his age played absolutely no factor behind him not getting any offers for IPL 2022. However, it may have been to do with the fact that Mishra had set up his base price at a whopping Rs. 1.5 crore and that may have been outside of the budget for the team owners. With 166 wickets in 154 matches, the leg-spinner is one of the best bowlers in the IPL. Over the course of 14 seasons, the senior spinner represented four franchises: the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Delhi Capitals, and SunRisers Hyderabad. Mishra is the only bowler in IPL history to have taken three hat-tricks: in 2008, 2011, and 2014. View the full article
  9. A cricket match between India and Pakistan is arguably the biggest rivalry in the sport. With billions of fans tuning into their TV sets, it’s no surprise that the encounter always creates new viewership records. Due to the ongoing political tensions between both the nations, India and Pakistan don’t play bi-later series anymore. The only time the fans get to witness the two teams fight it out on a cricket field is during the major multi-nation events hosted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). © Reuters Although players always insist that they treat this match like any other encounter but in reality, like fans, they also feel the nerves. Whenever these two neighbouring countries go up against each other, the players go through intense amounts of pressure, knowing that their fans would accept any defeat but not this one. Legendary Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh played against Pakistan many times during his mighty successful career but still this encounter gave him some jitters. © Reuters The 41-year-old recently went down the memory lane and shared an interesting anecdote about himself that happened during the 2011 World Cup semi-final against arch-rivals Pakistan. ‘The Turbanator’ was one of the key members of the Indian bowling attack in the tournament and given his experience, skipper MS Dhoni made the veteran off-spinner bowl some tough overs. © Reuters Chasing 261, there was a period when the match looked well in balance as Pakistan had reached 142 at the loss of four wickets. Given the crucial juncture of the match, Dhoni decided to bring in his lead spinner back into the attack after the drinks break. Bowling tough overs was not new to Harbhajan. He had done it many times before but given what was on the line, he started feeling the pressure, so much so that he actually started shivering. © Reuters India’s most successful spinner across all formats made this huge revelation on ‘Lessons From The World's Best’ hosted by former India mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton. “There were times… when I was playing the India vs Pakistan World Cup match in Mohali. When Dhoni asked me to bowl in the second spell I actually started shivering. They were batting really well at that stage. He asked me to bowl after the drinks break. I did not want to show people the pressure,” Harbhajan told Upton. © Reuters “You have to keep calm and think that you've done this before and for all these years, you have worked hard for this moment. Keep those emotions aside, focus, take a deep breath and do what you know you do best. “I got a wicket off the first ball itself and it helped me get my confidence back. I was calmer and full of emotions after that wicket and it gave me that breathing space,” said Harbhajan explaining how he controlled his nerves and went on to take crucial wickets that swung the tide in India’s favour. 11. After being brought in from the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2021 season, Chennai Super Kings batter Robin Uthappa recently opened up about his initial conversation with MS Dhoni last year. Last season, Uthappa only appeared in four games near the finish of the tournament after being benched throughout the first half. He made an immediate impression with 115 runs in four games and a useful 43-ball 64 against Delhi Capitals in the qualifier one. Uthappa was bought back by the Chennai Super Kings for his base price of INR 2 crores in the mega auction 2022, and he batted at number three in the opening game, striking a 21-ball 28 in a low-scoring game. After moving to the top of the order, he continued his fine form with a half-century in the next game and 13 in the third game against Punjab Kings. As he recalls the moments when he arrived at CSK setup, the veteran hitter has been one of the few bright spots for CSK this season. View this post on Instagram Uthappa said he appreciated Dhoni's honesty in telling him that the 36-year-old would not be able to immediately join the CSK playing XI and will have to wait and see how the tournament develops. He went on to say that the CSK coaching staff took great care of him and that they kept him in a positive mindset even when he wasn't playing. In a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Uthappa confessed that he liked how Dhoni told him on Day 1 of his time at CSK that he will not be given any easy chances and will not get to waltz his way into the Playing XI. He said that the team will have to wait and have to see how their season progresses and if an opportunity arises, he will be informed and expected to step up. View this post on Instagram Commending the coaching staff, Uthappa also said that the people around the players were very sensitive to the psyche of the players and knew how important it was to keep checking up on the athletes, even the ones on the bench. 12. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured their second consecutive win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) thanks to a special counter-attacking knock by Dinesh Karthik. RCB were reeling at 87 for five while chasing 170 but Karthik put on a show and scored 44 runs off just 23 balls to take his side over the line. The wicket-keeper batter calmly put the bad balls away and shifted the pressure back on Rajasthan Royals. Similarly, Karthik too said that he is not finished yet. "I made a conscious effort this year to do justice to myself because the last year, I felt I could have done better. 13. With last night’s 54-run defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS), defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have endured their worst start in IPL history. Before this season, the Chennai-based outfit had never opened its campaign with two consecutive losses. However, the 15th edition has been their worst start to the season. They have suffered three consecutive losses in as many games and it has left them languishing second from bottom in the 10-team IPL 2022 points table. View this post on Instagram Having restricted PBKS to 180 for eight on a batting paradise, the CSK bowlers had done a tremendous job. The onus was on their batters to get them over the line, but all of them, barring Shivam Dube, put up a horrendous show, which included their former skipper MS Dhoni. Half of CSK was back in the hut with only 36 runs on the board and it forced Dhoni to rebuild the innings with a cautious knock. With each dot ball, the required run-rate was going through the roof but the former CSK skipper showed no intention whatsoever and kept on playing a ‘Test’ knock. View this post on Instagram When 107 runs were required off the last seven overs, it was evident that runs were from both ends but Dhoni was in no mood to go through his gears. With each dot ball, the pressure was mounting on Dube and he finally perished after a valiant effort, smashing 57 off 30 balls. The required run-rate was well above 15 runs an over and Dhoni was batting on 11 off 21 deliveries. Watching his knock, it seemed like he was playing on a different surface altogether. He made batting look so difficult and dug up a huge hole for himself. View this post on Instagram More than the defeat, what hurt the fans the most was Dhoni’s lack of intent. It seemed as if he had already given up on the match and was playing to reduce the margin of the humiliation. Obviously, the supporters were pissed at Dhoni’s ‘useless’ knock and they trolled him brutally for his Test-match-like knock. Some fans even joked that through this knock he wanted to popularise the longest format of the game. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), one of the two new franchises, registered their maiden win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they chased down a 211-run target against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). LSG lost a thriller to fellow debutant Gujarat Titans in their campaign opener but came back strongly in the second game. In both matches, one uncapped player that stood out for LSG was Delhi youngster Ayush Badoni. The 22-year-old showed nerves of steel in the first match and saved the team the blushes when they were reeling at 29 for four. 15. On the 11th anniversary of the Indian cricket team winning the 2011 World Cup former Indian cricketer, ex-head coach and cricket commentator, Ravi Shastri talks about what was going on in his mind when Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed the iconic six against Sri Lanka to help Team India become World Champions. The drought of 28 years was finally over within a split second when the then-captain of the Men in Blue, MS Dhoni decided to swing for the fences on the second delivery of the penultimate over of the World Cup 2011 final. At the time, India was trailing by just three runs. They had 10 deliveries to go and the win was pretty much within the grasp of the batters on the pitch - Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. However, merely running across the pitch three times would not have been a very memorable way of winning the World Cup. So, ‘Captain Cool’, with his feet nailed to the ground, sent the full-length delivery by Nuwan Kulasekara flying over long-on with a thunderous blow, only to watch his teammates and staff members jumping with joy in the dressing room and a hyped Yuvraj Singh running towards him at full speed. View this post on Instagram Former head coach, Ravi Shastri was on commentary duty during the final and it was his excellent performance behind the microphone that made Dhoni’s six even more memorable. “Dhoni, finishes off in style!” the sound of his voice has become synonymous with the moment over the years and nobody can argue about the brilliance of it all, regardless of how they feel about Dhoni or Shastri. In a video shared by the official Twitter account of ESPNcricinfo, Shastri relives the time he was on commentary and Dhoni went for the history-making six in the middle of Wankhede stadium. “Well, India were ahead with eight balls, Dhoni on strike. I thought ‘well, he’ll take his time, probably play it safe and knock it around. There was enough time left’,” Shastri says. “But then a bolt out of the blue! But when the time came to show up or shut up, the man-made some quick decisions. He promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh - who was in excellent form and was going to win the ‘Player of the Series’ award shortly after and played a note-worthy and unbeaten 91-run knock to bring home the trophy once again. 16. After a staggering batting performance by Chennai Super Kings in the first half of the Indian Premier League clash against the newly introduced franchise, Lucknow SuperGiants, most cricket fans were expecting a one-sided contest for the remainder of the day. However, a strong start to the batting order by LSG skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock who shared a 99-run partnership for the first wicket, followed by a game-defining knock by Evin Lewis, who remained undefeated whilst scoring 55 runs during the chase led the franchise’s incredible first win in the league. View this post on Instagram During the final overs of the match, the staff members of the two sides were on the edge of their seats, nervously waiting for something miraculous to happen. Ultimately, the people supporting Lucknow got to jump off their seats and celebrate. It is the first time in their 13-year long journey that CSK has lost both their opening games in an IPL season. Just days before the start of the 15th edition of the IPL, MS Dhoni stepped down as the captain of CSK and gave the leadership reins to Ravindra Jadeja. But it was his decision to step down as CSK captain and today, instead of pushing him (Jadeja) forward, you have actually dragged him back. His confidence is dented. He wasn't in the game at all,” Ajay Jadeja said. “I'm not criticising the decisions. I'm being critical of the way he (Dhoni) took over. We noticed Dhoni speaking during the team meeting. There's no doubt that Dhoni understands the game better and even CSK fans would be urging him to take over the captaincy again. But I have no doubt that he was wrong in taking over today. If Jadeja was even beginning to feel confident about his captaincy, he won't now.” View this post on Instagram When Dhoni decided to step down as the captain of the franchise, it seemed like a decision taken considering the future of the team as we don't know for how long Dhoni will be there with the team and it was the right time to groom someone like Ravindra Jadeja for the role. However, from what we have seen in the two CSK matches so far, it looks like MSD is still in charge of the troops on the field as he was the one calling shots while Jadeja was standing in the outfield. The Bengaluru side outbid CSK and the Delhi Capitals (DC) for du Plessis' talents, paying INR 7 crore for his services. The first match between CSK and KKR will be a rematch of last year's final, in which Dhoni captained the Super Kings to their fourth IPL triumph. 21. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli might not be playing together anymore but their brotherhood is still intact. It shows in the way Kohli celebrates his former skipper’s on-field achievements. Last year, when the Ranchi-born had guided the Chennai-based outfit to a memorable win over Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1, Kohli had lavished huge praise on the former India skipper. Looking at his post, one could tell just how much he loved and admired the legendary cricketer. © Twitter/IPL The thing about Kohli’s posts about Dhoni is that he never uses too many words but still, one can sense his emotions. The former RCB captain once again made everyone emotional as he paid tribute to the four-time IPL champions after he relinquished CSK captaincy. Lavishing praise on the 40-year-old, he said that fans would never forget his “legendary captaincy tenure” in the yellow jersey. Kohli used a picture of himself embracing Dhoni with a warm hug, which increased the appeal of his post even further. View this post on Instagram “Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always. @mahi7781,” Kohli wrote on Instagram. Soon, fans flocked the post with their heart-warming comments. People loved Kohli’s affection for arguably the greatest Indian skipper of all time and the second-most successful captain in IPL history. © Instagram/Virat Kohli Not just fans, Kohli’s post also turned Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh emotional and he commented on his post saying: “Ek mera dil hai, ek meri jaan hai (One is my heart, one is my life)”. Dhoni’s decision to step down from CSK captaincy with only a couple of days left in their opening encounter of IPL 2022 took everyone by surprise. © Twitter/CSK The CSK legend knew he was running on his last legs and given his age, he might not be able to carry on for long. Hence, he wanted to ensure a smooth transition at the franchise and decided to hand over the reins to his successor so that he could guide him in the early phase of his IPL captaincy. Come Saturday, the Saurashtra all-rounder will become only the third player to lead CSK, after Dhoni and Suresh Raina. Leading a team like CSK will be a huge challenge but Ravindra Jadeja is lucky that he will have Dhoni as his guiding light. View the full article
  22. With MS Dhoni stepping down from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy, the defending champions will usher in a new era under the command of Ravindra Jadeja. Given all the amount of success, the 40-year-old talisman enjoyed while leading the side since the tournament's inception in 2008, filling in his shoes will not be easy for any player, no matter how talented and skilful they are. © Twitter/IPL Apart from his brilliant understanding of the game, the secret to his success, many believed, was his cool and calm demeanour. No matter how intense the match got, the former India captain hardly lost his cool and allowed his emotions to get the better of him. Obviously, there were a few exceptions, which showed that he was not an alien but a human. Who can forget the famous encounter between CSK and Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019 where Dhoni crossed all boundaries and did the unthinkable which shocked the whole world. What Made Dhoni Angry? The match between two former IPL champions went to the wire and the Chennai-based outfit needed eight to win off the last three balls. The controversy started when Ben Stokes bowled a full toss which was initially deemed a no-ball for height by the umpire standing at the non-striker’s end. Due to their better position, only leg-umpires are tasked with declaring a no-ball in such cases but for some reason, the official at the bowling end raised his hand and signalled a no-ball. © Instagram/IPL He soon realised his mistake and revoked his decision which angered the CSK batters. Dhoni, who was sitting in the dugout, first registered his discontent from the sidelines but then walked straight into the middle of the pitch to have a word with the match officials. People couldn’t believe what they just saw as nobody had seen Dhoni get this angry during a match. Shocked by his behaviour, even the former cricketers had chided the legendary wicket-keeper for setting a bad example for the kids. Among the firsts for me in today's game was the sight of Dhoni walking out onto the ground. As @MichaelVaughan said on #CricbuzzLIVE it is something he will realise he shouldn't have done. — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 11, 2019 A captain confronting the umpires in the middle of the ground during the match was an unprecedented event. It had never happened before and it never happened after that. Given the gravity of the incident, many had expected Dhoni to get a severe punishment but he got away pretty cheaply. The BCCI shut down the matter by handing him a fine of 50 per cent match fee. © Twitter/IPL Had there been any other player, would he have also gotten away with a small fine? The answer is probably not. Dhoni’s star status in the IPL certainly came to his rescue and forced the BCCI to deal with the matter with leniency. View the full article
  23. Moments after MS Dhoni's shocking declaration that he will step down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, the franchise's CEO, addressed the pressing subject of the former skipper's future within the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ravindra Jadeja will be the CSK captain for the IPL 2022 and beyond, according to a CSK announcement, but there was no hint of what the future holds for the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the press release. View this post on Instagram Viswanathan stated that he does not expect that Dhoni's last IPL season will be in 2022, adding that the CSK legend had carefully considered his decision before relinquishing control of the team. The Chennai franchise, according to the CEO, has always respected whatever MS Dhoni has decided because he has been a pillar of strength for the team since the start of the competition in 2008. View this post on Instagram Dhoni will continue to be a pillar of strength, according to Viswanathan, and he will guide Jadeja and the rest of the team. He has made the decision because he expects a smooth transfer from him to Jaddu. He must have made the decision in the best interests of CSK as a leader and player who has always cared about the team. With Dhoni having retired from international and other forms of cricket, the IPL is the only remaining venue for MSD supporters to see their hero Thala in action and work his magic. View this post on Instagram However, if you are a true Dhoni fan, you would still be looking forward to at least one more year of 'Captain Cool' playing in the yellow jersey. Dhoni had stated last year at a felicitation ceremony that he intends to play his final IPL match in front of the CSK faithful at the MA Chidambaram, and given that this year's edition is being contested in Mumbai and Pune, expect Dhoni to come one last time next year. As weird as it sounds, Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings are scheduled to open the 2022 edition of the IPL while playing against Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders at the world-famous Wankhede stadium on March 26, 2022. 25. MS Dhoni’s decision to relinquish Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy and hand over the leadership responsibilities to Ravindra Jadeja has taken the whole country by surprise. Ever since the announcement was made, people have been flocking to various social networking sites and congratulating the Ranchi-born cricketer for his stellar stint as CSK leader. © Twitter/CSK CSK legend Suresh Raina, who spent a majority of his career playing alongside Dhoni, also took to the micro-blogging site but his choice of words (or the lack of it) became a huge talking point. While almost everyone had thanked Dhoni for making CSK one of the most successful sides in the tournament, Raina’s post had no mention of the former leader. The 35-year-old was “thrilled” with the news of Jadeja becoming the CSK captain. He described him as the rightful heir to the throne and expressed full confidence in his abilities to deliver on people’s expectations. Absolutely thrilled for my brother. I can't think of anyone better to take over the reins of a franchise we both had grown up in. All the best @imjadeja . It's an exciting phase and I'm sure you will live up to all the expectations and love #yellow #csk #WhistlePodu — Suresh Raina (@ImRaina) March 24, 2022 “Absolutely thrilled for my brother. People were surprised that while the whole world was celebrating Dhoni and his achievements as CSK captain, Raina ditched the wicketkeeper-batter completely in his tweet. Very poor Mr. Raina #Thalaalways — Bezalel.A (@bezalel_a) March 24, 2022 After reading his post, fans began to speculate if the two cricketers weren’t the best of friends anymore as they once were and that the southpaw had not forgiven Dhoni for the way he was treated at the IPL 2022 mega auction last month after just one bad season. There was a time when Raina and Dhoni shared a great camaraderie. The fact that the southpaw announced his international retirement on the same day as the former India skipper showed how close they were to each other. After the first leg of last year’s IPL, Raina had famously said that he would try to convince Dhoni to play for another season and in case he failed, he would also retire with him. This remark was living proof that things were pretty normal between them till last year. People believe their relationship has deteriorated in the last few months and Raina’s latest post shows that it is beyond repair now. View the full article
