  1. The Indian cricket team might have lost the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, but their record against Pakistan at the World Cup remains formidable. In a bid to change their fortunes, the Pakistani cricket team took the field against Team India at the ongoing ICC World Cup. But, what eventually unfolded at a packed Old Trafford stadium is bound to haunt Sarfaraz Ahmed's men for a while. In what turned out to be a one-sided contest, Virat Kohli-led India overshadowed Pakistan in almost all facets of the game to record an emphatic 89-run triumph (D/L) in Manchester. Thanks to their latest triumph, India have now extended their unbeaten run against Pakistan to seven games at the World Cup. Given their clinical performance, the Indian cricket fans were on cloud nine as memes, videos and celebratory messages thronged social media. While a Pakistani fan's rant questioning the fitness of Sarfaraz & Co went viral, Harbhajan Singh revelled in a spoof video that showed the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma dancing after beating Pakistan. Hahaha this is amazing.. super funny ðð have a look @imVkohli @ImRo45 @msdhoni @imjadeja team india https://t.co/9NcNEwqtcz — Harbhajan Turbanator (@harbhajan_singh) June 17, 2019 Retweeting the spoof video, Bhajji wrote: Hahaha this is amazing.. super funny ðð have a look @imVkohli @ImRo45 @msdhoni @imjadeja team india". As soon as Harbhajan recommended the video to Indian cricketers and fans, everyone on Twitter expressed their views on the hilarious spoof. 2. Often labelled as the mother of all battles, the Indian cricket team's much-anticipated clash against Pakistan at the ongoing ICC World Cup on 16th June failed to live up to the billing. The contest, that pitted arch-rivals India and Pakistan against each other, turned out to be a one-sided affair as Virat Kohli-led brigade proved too good for their opponents at Old Trafford. While Rohit Sharma's blistering knock of 140 runs set the tone for India's mammoth total of 336 runs, a collective effort by their bowling unit, thoroughly complimented by some mediocre batting from Pakistani batsmen, powered Kohli & co to a 89-run triumph via Duckworth-Lewis method (D/L). A splendid 140 from Rohit Sharma, which came off just 113 balls, guided India to their seventh straight victory over Pakistan in World Cup cricket ð¥ The Hit-Man is our @Oppo Shotmaker for India v Pakistan. pic.twitter.com/CIDOxS7bo3 — ICC (@ICC) June 17, 2019 On one hand, where the Pakistani fans were left red-faced in the wake of their team's dismal show, the mood on the other side of the border was celebratory. From Bollywood celebrities, prominent politicians to crazed fans, everyone lauded the clinical show produced by the Indian cricket team which has now extended their unbeaten run to four games in the ongoing World Cup. Amongst the innumerable messages and celebratory videos, there's one that clearly stands out and sums up the mood of Indian fans. While Kohli & Co were busy cutting Pakistan a sorry figure on the field, Rishabh Pant and Ziva Dhoni were having a gala time in the stands. View this post on Instagram Partners in crime ð @ziva_singh_dhoni A post shared by Rishabh Pant (@rishabpant) on Jun 16, 2019 at 11:42am PDT Pant, who recently reached England as a backup following Shikhar Dhawan thumb injury, shared a video on Instagram where he was seen rooting for Team India alongside MS Dhoni's adorable daughter. Their cute video was liked and cherished by Indian cricket fans who also expressed their desire to see Pant donning Indian colours at the World Cup soon.
  3. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most loved men in the Indian society both as a cricketer and as a common man. His love and admiration for the Indian Army and special forces are second to none and have been well documented throughout the veteran's professional career. In the ICC World Cup 2019 debut for the Men in Blue the former Indian skipper and World Cup winner, decided to pay homage to the nation's Para Special Forces in the most unique manner by proudly sporting their distinguishing insignia which honours the Parachute regiment, on his wicket keeping gloves. © AP The emblem represents the struggle and intense training a member of the regiment goes through before officially getting inducted. Considered to be one of the most difficult regimens, a candidate gets exposed to extreme environments which includes being exposed to sleep deprivation, exhaustion, humiliation and various mental and physical tortures to make their resolve unbreakable. Even after going through so much, the candidates do not officially get inducted until they complete what is known as the 'Balidan Padh' wherein, once their training is complete, they have to spend a year in a hostile zone, actively being involved in operations. It is only after that one year that they are honoured with the 'Balidan' insignia. Such is the importance and value of the sign. © defencelover It did not take too long for the Indian fans to take notice of Dhoni's silent gesture and they did not hold back in showering the legendary cricketer with love: This man shows his love for the nation and army. 4. Playing cricket for the most dominating force in the game, Team India, is not easy. More than the opponents, the passionate fans of the Men in Blue stay ready with a mouthful when an athlete does not perform, is struggling with a bad form or fails to win matches for his side regardless of how difficult the situation was when he got to the crease. One such athlete is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been questioned, taunted and criticised about the way he plays in the hour of need for the Bleed Blue side. The fact that the former skipper is getting old, does not help either. But during India's second warm-up match in the ICC World Cup 2019 which was against Bangladesh, Dhoni looked like his old self. Like a stallion, with nothing but brute strength flowing through his veins. Scoring his ton in just 78 deliveries, the Ranchi born was making the ball fly left, right and centre on command, bringing the Indian batting order back in line with the help of KL Rahul, after an abysmal start to the innings with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma disappointing yet again. So when Dhoni scored his century in fashion with a strong six over the bowler's head and raised his bat in the air to an awestruck audience, an overjoyed Virat Kohli was seen abusing in excitement, acknowledging his teammate's achievement. Indian stand-up comedian Papa CJ uploaded this video from the friendly match between India and Bangladesh last evening: Classic Dhoni and classic Virat ððð pic.twitter.com/jplLRvAVPy — Papa CJ (@PapaCJ) May 28, 2019 Albeit, Dhoni has been struggling a little bit with his form in the 50 over format of the game lately, but he is no stranger to hitting big shots. Likewise, Kohli is no stranger to expressing his emotions with the help of some cuss words. Therefore, Papa CJ's caption: “Classic Dhoni and classic Virat” makes absolute sense. And while parents would have had a tough time explaining their kids what the Indian skipper was caught mouthing on national television, his emotions were well understood by the fans of Indian cricket and those of MS Dhoni. 5. We love Mahendra Singh Dhoni and if you have been a regular reader of our stories, you would have an idea about how much we love him. A lot. We love him a lot. However, in this new video that surfaced online, Mahi takes some time off his busy cricketing schedule to share his plans after taking retirement from the cricketing world, which a lot of us are speculating to be immediately after the ICC World Cup 2019. “I wanted to share a secret with all of you,” the former Indian captain said in the video footage. “Right from when I was a kid, I always wanted to become an artist.” “I decided I have played a lot of cricket and it is time for me to take up what I really wanted to become so I started getting into painting,” he added. As fans of whatever 'Captain Cool' says or does on the field, we are one hundred per cent behind Dhoni and wish all the success to his desire to turn painting into a career. Having said that, it is the next part of the video which makes us feel as if 'Thala' was trolling us. I like Dhoni's helicopter shot most. But his paintings are good too.#WhyDhoniWhy pic.twitter.com/SGyWBA4sYo — Tanya Mishra (@TanyaMisti) May 20, 2019 While Dhoni shows a couple of his paintings which include sketches of a landscape, the kind we used to make in kindergarten, another one with a “futuristic aeroplane” from the year 2050 and finally a stick-figure self-portrait in his Chennai Super Kings jersey. With the excitement of a 12-year-old, Dhoni continues to show one painting after another and it is the man's simplicity that wins our hearts every single time. If the Indian wicket-keeper is serious about whatever he said in the video, then we are expecting a brilliant art exhibition sometime in the future which would consist of every idea or emotion the cricketer wanted to express through colours and surely, it will be a sight for sore eyes. Dhoni also invites the “art community” to have a look at whatever he has created till date and is open to suggestions and advice with regards to helping him better his craft. Did we mention how much we love MS Dhoni?
  6. PUBG Mobile, as we all know, has grown to become one of the most popular games around the world. The popular online battle royale title is being played by everyone, including our very own Indian cricketers. That's right, even our busy cricket players take some time off their busy schedule to play the game. We've even seen the players playing PUBG on their smartphones and tablets before departing for Australia for the full-fledged series in November 2018. As we wait for the departure announcement from Mumbai, some of them are playing a very popular multiplayer game. #TeamIndia Any guesses? pic.twitter.com/Y1n8AdHxhn — BCCI (@BCCI) October 30, 2018 While interacting with ESPNCricinfo, Indian cricketer Kuldeep Yadav revealed the best PUBG players in the Indian cricket team. He named former skipper MS Dhoni, Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kedar Jadhav as the best players of the game in the Indian team. We haven't really seen the Indian cricket team players all play PUBG together, but maybe that will happen during the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. PUBG has been something of an issue in India, with multiple bans across schools, colleges and sometimes, even cities. From students committing suicide after being told to not play the game to people being run over by trains as they were too distracted while playing the game, PUBG has been swimming in controversy in India for a long, long time. Recently, we even heard news of a married couple filing for divorce over the game. A lot of people feel the game is disruptive and extremely distracting, especially when it comes to students. However, students are of the belief that the game is an outlet for healthy creativity and has massive potential when it comes to the Indian gaming industry. Source: ESPNCricinfo
  7. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is one of the most well-renowned engineering institutions of India and is known to add a little bit of fun to its gruelling study-structure from time to time, in order to prevent the students from getting overwhelmed. However, when the teaching staff of the Institute decided to add the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season to their end semester exam of Material and Energy Balances, IIT just became a lot cooler, in my personal opinion. The exam was held on 6th May 2019, that is a day before the playoffs of the twelfth season of the league began with the first match destined to take place between two of the most successful teams in the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The students were in for a pleasant surprise when the first question of the exam required them to hypothetically help the Chennai skipper make a crucial decision after he wins the toss. © IIT Madras The question read, “Dew can play a major role in day-night matches. Excessive dew in the outfield makes the ball wet. For spinners, the challenge is to grip the wet ball and get it to impart spin. For fast bowlers, it is difficult to hit the desired length. Hence, this can put the fielding team at a disadvantage. During IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings are likely to play a qualifier at Chepauk Stadium on May 7. As per the weather forecast on May 7, the relative humidity in Chennai is expected to be 70 per cent. The temperature at the start of the game is expected to be 39 degrees. At the beginning of the second innings, the temperature is expected to drop to 27 degrees. Based on this info, if Dhoni wins the toss would you recommend batting or fielding first. Justify your answer.” Ever since the exam concluded, the question-paper went viral and ended up with the Twitter handle of the International Cricket Council, who even gave a shoutout to IIT Madras' Professor Vignesh “for making exams relevant to important, real-life issues!” Shout out to Professor Vignesh at @iitmadras for making exams relevant to important, real-life issues! Can anyone help @msdhoni and @ChennaiIPL make a decision before the toss tomorrow? (and show your workings ð) pic.twitter.com/8fp7rGI5BG — ICC (@ICC) May 6, 2019 Some of the other fans of the game, who did not have the opportunity to answer this question for marks, took to Twitter to do their best in helping Mahi make the decision: It's obvious whoever win the toss will elect field first. Dew will play crucial role , fielding second will definitely become challenging. Though Chennai has a spinning track , spinners in second inning will be in trouble to control the ball. Win the toss , win the match. — Patel Meet (@msp_011) May 6, 2019 @msdhoni will bowl first as the temperature is 39 in the beginning and in second innings it will drop to 27, hence major chances of due because of 70% humidity as the humid air will turn into water (due) on cold surfaces. — Durwas Mohite (@DurwasMohite) May 6, 2019 *Outside the box thinking* Since Chennai pitch is supporting spin and since we have quality spinners than quality pacers, it is better to chase. Bcz if dew comes, we will be in disadvantage. And even if dew doesn't come, chasing will be better for a heavy-batting unit like #CSK — Sai Krishð (@bsk5496) May 6, 2019 As the dew point is around 32 degree Celsius , by the time the second innings starts the dew would have already fallen ... Hence whichever team wins the toss should bat second !! pic.twitter.com/924JUEW3GB — The accidental researcher (@vijayathithan) May 6, 2019 I'd recommend bowl first, if there is dew on field, it is difficult bowlers to grip the ball and that will eventually help the batsmen.. So bowl first and chase comfortably!! — MSD Zealot! (@Vidyadhar_7) May 6, 2019
  8. As the twelfth season of the Indian Premier League approaches its conclusion, the need for patience and keeping calm continues to rise. Especially with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals fixing berths for themselves for the playoff round, only two spots remain and the competition amongst the rest of the franchises is nail-biting. Therefore, the pressure of the 'now-or-never' situation is getting to every member of the teams that have not qualified yet, which often erupts in an outburst when something does not go according to the liking of the athletes. Earlier, well-renowned and respected players of the Indian cricket team were looked down upon and fined for losing their cool over the flow of the game. On one hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was criticised for his 'extremely aggressive' reaction after dismissing Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin last week, on the other hand, former captain of the Men in Blue and often referred to as 'Captain Cool', MS Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fees after coming onto the field from the dugout to argue with the umpires. Yesterday, it was time for the third captain of Team India and the leader of the MIPaltan, Rohit Sharma to join the infamous gang. After getting dismissed for cheap (12 runs off 9 deliveries) on an LBW appeal off English bowler, Harry Gurney, the 'Hitman' was visibly upset with the decision and vented his frustration on the stumps and broke them before leaving the crease. Breaching the conduct, Sharma was slapped with 15% of his match fees for the unprecedented actions and this is how his fans reacted: Rohit Sharma fuming at the umpire and buddy that wicket hitting thing is not expected from the clam batsman. When you're in a under pressure match and the poor umpiring takes the best batsman in your team. Sharma is only the fourth cricketer to lead a franchise for 100 matches after MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli.
  9. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of a kind cricketer of this generation. With the kind of strength, quickness and creativity he possesses, the Ranchi-born athlete has won the hearts of millions of fans throughout the world, yes, even his opponents. Let's take the example of this young cricketer, Riyan Parag, a Rajasthan Royals member who played a brilliant innings against Kolkata Knight Riders in a win to ruin Dinesh Karthik's explosive and unbeaten 97-run performance a couple of days ago. In what he considers to be the game of life, Parag had the honour of sharing the field with 'Captain Cool' himself when his RR locked horns against Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings on 11th April 2019. What's more is that after the 17-year-old was able to collate no more than 16 runs, he was dismissed with a caught behind with Mahi as the keeper. Cute!#RRvCSK ##IPL2019 pic.twitter.com/IrXAtEZsrs — Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) April 13, 2019 Now, two weeks since the matchup, Indian commentary legend, Harsha Bhogle uploaded a tweet something extremely interesting about Dhoni and the Parag family: Someone on twitter (sorry there were lots of msgs and I can't trace the name) pointed out this interesting bit of trivia. #RR played #CSK on April 11 in Jaipur and Riyan Parag was caught by MS Dhoni for 16. — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 26, 2019 Many years ago, in the 99-00 season of the Ranji Trophy (see the 2nd innings of Assam in this scorecard) https://t.co/R2CzlZvnwG An Assam opener, called Parag Das was stumped by a young keeper called MS Dhoni. Parag Das is Riyan Parag's father! And MSD is the constant! — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 26, 2019 That's right, when former captain of the Indian cricket team, made his Ranji debut in the year 2000, he dismissed the opener of the Assam team. The name of the opener, Parag Das, the father of Riyan. Essentially, with multiple generations of a cricketing family have come and gone, the only thing constant is the brilliance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This is how the fans reacted: Dhoni's longevity and consistency. It's like starting off as a Management Trainee in an office and helping an officer with his PPT and then years later being a mentor to his son and teaching him how to make the perfect PPT. — Rohit (@rohit1709) April 27, 2019 That's we call Thala — naresh p (@nareshloss) April 26, 2019 Dhoni: Hunting through generations ð — S DEEPAK (@dpuktambi) April 26, 2019 The life cycle of cricket pic.twitter.com/5Aqu2LLYLw — Shanmuga sundaram (@shannsundar) April 26, 2019 Circle of cricketing life :) — ðEbrahim Rupawalað¿ (@eburupa52) April 26, 2019 DHONI is new CONSTANT in the cricket equation — sanjeev (@sanjeevagri) April 26, 2019 Evergreen dhoni...kahinor of indian cricket⤠— Mostak ahmed (@Mostaka23179006) April 26, 2019
  10. When asked to choose between representing your nation in the ICC World Cup and a month of crazy match schedules along with gruelling travelling in a league like the IPL, veterans would pick the former in a heartbeat. But someone like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is so dedicated to the game of cricket along with the love and prayers of both Chennai and the rest of the cricket-hungry lunatics of the country, tries to give more than he could bargain for and sometimes, that level of commitment leads to dire consequences. Sure, for a young athlete, being able to play for his country and a major league franchise on a regular basis, while literally making crores of rupees, has to be the greatest dream they could be living. There's nothing else they would rather do. But as they get older and their joints begin to crack and the muscles don't recover at the rate they once used to, priorities change. Dhoni has, without doubt, provided excellent service to his country with years and years of leading the Indian cricket team to glory both as a member and the leader of the squad. His unique batting style, raw power blended well with his ability to remain calm under stressful situations and it is that rare combination that allowed Mahi to do great things for his team on a regular basis. On the other hand, the man has led his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings to great heights, winning three titles (2010, 2011, 2018), thereby making it the most successful team of the league (tied with Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians. Well done, @ChennaiIPL. A great display of quality cricket. Certainly the most consistent side of the tournament. A special knock from @ShaneRWatson33 in a crucial game which saw them through. #CSKvSRH #IPL2018Final pic.twitter.com/HhuaQJPbEF — Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) May 27, 2018 Having said that, the service took a great toll on the wicket-keeper batsman's body, more specifically his back. Ever since the beginning of 2018, the former skipper had complained of an annoying back pain that he has incurred from the hours and hours of wicket-keeping, following the need to finish games for his side on a regular basis. At 37 years of age, Dhoni's fitness levels were questioned by fans and critics alike when he had decided to sit out of the match against Kane Williamson's SunRisers Hyderabad with less that two months remaining for the World Cup. While he did make an explosive comeback to the format, scoring his IPL career best of 84 in just 48 deliveries versus Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore, he did not feel a hundred percent as a player. What an innings! #JustThalaThings #WhistlePodu pic.twitter.com/30pvfu7v3D — Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) April 21, 2019 But 'Thala' is a fighter and believes in playing through the pain. “I feel international cricketers are used to playing with some kind of a pain. If you want to be 100 percent and then play a game, maybe you will have to wait five years before you play the next game,” he'd said in a press conference on Tuesday. His wisdom, on the other hand, has asked of him to rest for a while, if his body demands it. With the quadrennial tournament just a month away, Dhoni, who started his IPL 2019 journey with an acute back spasm says that “it's holding up,” and that “It's not showing signs of getting worse”. However, he can't risk getting injured at this juncture, especially when he is such a vital pillar upon which the Men in Blue stand, and the Ranchi-born legend knows it: “With the World Cup coming up, I have to keep in mind that I can't really get injured, so that (World Cup) comes first. If it (back problem) gets worse, I'll definitely take some time off,” Dhoni added at the conference.
  11. Last evening's Indian Premier League match between Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings and Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore produced some really incredible moments of the 2019 season of the league. The thrilling last-minute drama with the brilliant direct hit by the RCB wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel allowed his side to win the third game of the season in a nail-biter. However, the innings played by the former Indian skipper has to be the talk of the town. While scoring his career best in the IPL (83 not out), Dhoni looked and played like his old self when he was challenging the age-old techniques of some of the greatest batsmen of the game with his unorthodox style and brute power. Mahi came to play and was focused from the first delivery, scoring a boundary at the deep point. We also got to see the finesse and creativity of the batter that he gathered and evolved through the years and years of playing international cricket as he smoothly directed a wide ball towards the deep fine leg. This career best performance consisted of five fours and a barrage of sixes, one of which was the longest any cricketer had hit this season at 111 metres, with the ball going out of the M. What looked like an out-of-hand game for the 'Whistle Podu' franchise, came to the final delivery thanks to the superhuman game played by Dhoni. 12. It has been well documented that Indian bowling all-rounder Kedar Jadhav shares one of the biggest bromances in Indian sports with former captain of the Men in Blue and current Chennai Super Kings leader Mahendra Singh Dhoni for some time now. The 34-year-old Jadhav has openly spoken up about how much he idolises Dhoni and the fact that he decorated his room with Mahi's posters in his Pune house. So, it is only obvious that Jadhav would love to be around Dhoni as much as he can and according to his latest Instagram post, take care of his eating habits as well. View this post on Instagram Bromance â¤ï¸ A post shared by Kedar Jadhav (@kedarjadhavofficial) on Apr 14, 2019 at 10:10am PDT In the video, Kedar and Mahi can be seen sharing a quick bite ahead of an IPL match against Dinesh Karthik's Kolkata Knight Riders. Jadhav has always looked up to the Indian wicket-keeper and has commended his ability to stick to the crease, remain calm under testing times and finish games in favour of his country with a bang. “I can't put it out in words. Every time I see Mahi bhai, it instils confidence in me. That sort of aura is like, that you see him and feel that 'I will deliver today'. He has the knack of getting the best out of every player and that's what everybody loves about him,” Jadhav had said after playing a 81-run-innings in an ODI match against the visiting Australians in March. “The kind of cricketer I am today is because of him. He has always encouraged me… He had seen me in Zimbabwe first and in the New Zealand series at home in 2016, he just wanted two overs from me and luckily for me in my second over, I got two wickets.” Belonging to the 'Whistle Podu' franchise, Dhoni and Jadhav are enjoying their well-deserved top spot on the points table of the league with a season-best record of seven wins to one loss in their eight games played. Super Kings are to take on Kane Williamson and SunRisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.
  13. Following a remarkable comeback to the tournament last season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have continued their fine run in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The MS Dhoni-led brigade have won seven out of the eight games they've played so far to go four points clear at the top in the points table. While the Chennai outfit has derived favourable results owing to a collective team effort, Dhoni's success as the one true leader continues to capture the imagination of cricket fans. Arguably one of the most admired and respected cricketers in the world, Dhoni seems to have passed on his leadership skills to daughter Ziva. For a four-year-old, Ziva has already tasted stardom owing to her cute videos that continue to throng social media. But, more recently, her understanding of the fast-paced world around her has left everyone in awe. The youngster was seen correcting Bravo after he was seen wearing the CSK cap backwards - something that had earlier instigated Sunil Gavaskar to slam the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Dinesh Karthik for disrespecting the national cap. After recording their first win at the Eden Gardens since 2013, Dhoni-led Chennai will be eager to continue their fine form when they visit the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 17th April.
  14. On Thursday, when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings came to play at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium, it wasn't just another match of IPL 2019. It was a match that saw a fan-idol duo turn into rivals, in order to inch closer to winning the IPL trophy. We're talking about Riyan Parag, who made a promising debut with Rajasthan Royals; and MS Dhoni, who is leading CSK from the forefront. Twitter This 17-year-old cricketer hails from Assam and was all of six, when he first met and clicked a picture with his idol MS Dhoni. In fact, when MS Dhoni made his international debut in 2004, Riyan was 3. Fast forward to the present and Riyan not only made his IPL debut but also played against MS Dhoni. Ever since the two met, this picture of their 'then and now' started circulating on social media and is now making people go crazy. Twitter Riyan is a right-handed batsman and leg spinner, who was also a part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018. He also featured in two tests for the Indian U-19 team in England and holds the record of the second fastest 50 in U-19 after Virat Kohli. Twitter Riyan's father is Parag Das, a former cricketer and mother is Mithu Baruah, a national level swimmer.
  15. What started out as one of the most boring matches of the twelfth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between the inaugural league winners, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suddenly became a centre of controversies, hot arguments and some really weird and wacky moments in the tournament's history. Ahead of what was considered to be MS Dhoni's biggest outburst of rage and frustration with the on-field umpires' inability to make accurate decisions especially during the crucial moments of the match which could have caused Chennai the match had it not been for Mitchell Santner's heroic six at the final delivery, the CSK skipper was having one of the better innings of the season. In a 'Man of the Match' worthy showing, Dhoni scored an efficient 58 off 43 balls helping his side get closer to the win. Flying to his left, Jadeja connected with Stoke's delivery and sent it flying over the bowler's head. Uncertain of how well his teammate had hit the ball, Dhoni ran for a quick single without looking behind. Jadeja, who's eyes following the white ball disappear behind the boundary, lay on his front, thanking his stars for the six. Watching Jadeja in no hurry to get up, Dhoni finally dared to look behind and realised what the batsman had done. Astounded by the uncanny shot, Dhoni thought of a befitting way to appreciate Jaddu's shot: by funnily hitting his head with the bat multiple times. ðð¤ Super funny Dhoni moment#CSK #DhoniRoaring #dhoni #SRHvMI #WhistlePoduArmy@msdfansofficial pic.twitter.com/cFOtAK0ijB — KAJAAð¦ (@KajaVinoth) April 12, 2019 Jadeja was an integral part of the effort put in by the team to give CSK the number one spot on the points table of the league. 16. For a team that made a sensational comeback last season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) appear to be on-track for glory as they continue to go past one opponent after another in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 'Yellow Brigade' had already recorded four wins out of their five games this season when a big test awaited them at the MA Chidambaram stadium against table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 9th April. Many had doubts over Chennai's ability to overcome KKR and, more importantly, halt the menacing Andre Russell who seems to be in a class of his own this season. But, in front of the home crowd, Chennai once again proved why they are three-time IPL champions. Handing the visitors only their second loss this season, Chennai didn't just managed to contain Russell (in their own capacity), but eventually pulled off an emphatic seven-wicket triumph to bolster their title defence. © Twitter/@IPL The victory, derived under the leadership of pragmatic skipper MS Dhoni and on the back of a collective team effort, propelled CSK to the top spot with 10 points in their kitty. For the way it panned out, Chennai's win wasn't really hard-fought but such is the IPL schedule that it barely allows the cricketers to rest. Following his team's triumph, MS Dhoni's social media post, the very next morning, showed how difficult it is for these cricketers to keep up with the pace of the tournament. With their next clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) scheduled to be played on 11th April, Dhoni and his teammates barely had any time for a breather as they boarded a morning flight to Jaipur from Chennai. In a post that he shared on Instagram, Dhoni and his wife were seen catching some sleep on the airport floor with their kit bag playing the role of a pillow. "After getting used to IPL timing this is what happens if u have a morning flight," the CSK skipper captioned the photo. 17. After making a sensational comeback to the tournament last season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seems to have carried on the winning momentum in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 'Yellow Brigade' won three consecutive games before their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) brought their winning streak to an end. Ahead of their fifth match, Chennai were dealt a major blow after their star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was ruled out for upto two weeks due to a hamstring injury. But, that didn't really matter, at least in that game, as Chennai returned to winning ways after beating Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 22 runs in their last match. With four wins in five games, Chennai look solid in their title defence as they occupied the second spot in the IPL points table. But, their sixth match presented a stern test to CSK as they geared up to host table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in what promises to be a pulsating contest. Twitter/@IPL While the high-flying KKR side is full of match-winners, one man in particular, Andre Russell, posed a threat greater than anyone. To put things in perspective, the West Indian has amassed 207 runs in just five games and currently leads the list of cricketers with most sixes in the tournament with a tally of 22 maximums. There has been a big debate around how Chennai can stop the so-called 'RussellMania' in a bid to topple KKR from the top. Many pointed out Russell's troubles against leg-spinners and opined that Imran Tahir might just be the man to halt the marauding run of the right-handed batsman. But, it seems, skipper MS Dhoni has other plans. 18. The past two days of the Indian Premier League has seen some rather bizarre series of events taking place that have changed the complete scenario of the matches with outcomes absolutely different from what the viewers were expecting. We are talking about the matches that took place between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Saturday. You did not even have to look carefully to realise how similar the two games got in the final overs of the second innings, respectively. Let's start by talking about the game between RCB and KKR. During the 17th over Bangalore's bowling, it was Mohammad Siraj who bowled his second dangerous beamer of the match and had to give up the rest of the over with four deliveries left. During this situation, RCB captain, Virat Kohli was standing at the boundary, waiting for the situation to untangle itself. It was only after the umpire had taken the ball away from Siraj that the RCB captain ran down to the pitch to decide what needs to happen. Eventually, he decided to give the ball to Marcus Stoins and KKR's Andre Russell had himself a grand feast. Ruthless. Relentless. Russel ðªð¥ The absolute hitting that led to this though ðð@KKRiders @Russell12A #RCBvKKR pic.twitter.com/4Ou1HzYS34 — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 5, 2019 Now, let's talk about the match between CSK and KXIP. In the second last over of Chennai's bowling, Deepak Chahar bowls back to back beamers at Sarfaraz Khan, who manages to hit a four on the first but takes a single on the second to give the strike to David Miller. This is where MS Dhoni steps in to have a word with the youngblood. Visibly upset with the consecutive no-balls, Dhoni lets Chahar hear it. It felt more like a discussion between an angry school teacher and a student who keeps quiet with hands at the back the whole time. Moment of the day. #DeepakChahar was almost in tears after a terrible start to the over. Couldn't look into the eyes of #Dhoni. Would love to know what from Chahar himself on what was said. Because clearly after this, he seemed a different bowler altogether. #CSKvKXIP #VIVOIPL pic.twitter.com/iwq3yVXjtI — Abhishek Barthur (@imabhi27) April 6, 2019 Instantly, Chahar looked like a different player altogether. After two scary yorkers he ended the over by dismissing Miller. We could not have made this up. One day after another, the two leaders of the Indian cricket team were put in similar spot but while one chose to continue to abuse at his players from the boundary line, the other decided to find out what's wrong with his teammate, shared a few words of wisdom and encouraged him to be the best version of himself.
  19. MS Dhoni is the 'coolest' captain the Indian cricket team has ever had. And literally so. Boy, can the man keep calm under duress or what? The former Indian skipper even holds a number of epithets along the same lines, such as 'Captain Fantastic' and 'Mr. Iceman', apart from the most popular one, 'Captain Cool'. © Twitter However, today people on Twitter are chanting his name for an entirely different reason and one that is truly heartwarming. We all know how passionate Dhoni is about cricket, which obviously extends to his love for his Indian Premier League team, Chennai Super Kings and its supporters. © Twitter So, last evening, after the match with Mumbai Indians came to an end, Dhoni met up with one such special fan patiently, who was rooting for him and cheering the team from the stands. 20. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is credited for many things in cricket. His leadership skills allowed India to scale new heights in international cricket. Dhoni's unorthodox glovework has become a case study for budding wicket-keepers. And, needless to mention, his famous 'helicopter shot' has now become a trademark amongst batsmen. We've seen a few batsmen in the past repeating Dhoni's trademark shot. Whether it was Rashid Khan, Prithvi Shaw or Rishabh Pant, everyone appears to be busy emulating Dhoni on the field. Twitter/@IPL Coming in to bat in the 17th over, Pandya showed signs of aggression on the first delivery of the penultimate over after he smashed Shardul Thakur for a six over square leg. Then, after Kieron Pollard hammered Bravo for a six on the third delivery, Pandya gave Mumbai a final flourish by scoring 16 runs (6,4 and 6) off the final three balls. A staggering 29 runs came off Bravo's final over with Pandya finishing at an 8-ball 25 alongside Pollard's 7-ball 17. 21. The world of cricket isn't new to rivalries between the teams. Similarly, the Indian Premier League (IPL), too, has witnessed its franchises developing the rivalries over the years. But, no rivalry has managed to capture the imagination of fans than the one shared by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Both the IPL giants have won the title three times - a feat no other franchise has managed to achieve yet. And, if that's not enough, the fact that their clash pits some of the biggest names in international cricket against each other, further makes theirs a scintillating affair. Thus, when the first stage of the IPL fixtures were announced, everyone was circling the date i.e. 3rd April - the day two giants lock horns - on their calendar this season. While Chennai looks solid in their title defence so far (winning three consecutive games to occupy the top spot in the table), Mumbai have failed to match their rivals, winning just one and losing two games. Hosting Chennai today at the Wankhede stadium, Rohit Sharma's men will be eager to climb up the table (slightly higher than the seventh spot). © Twitter/@IPL On the other hand, three players from the Chennai brigade will be chasing their respective individual records as they aim to pin Mumbai in their own den. The likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo will all be chasing individual feats when they take the field at the Wankhede stadium today. Talking about our 'Captain Cool' first, Dhoni is just two runs away from becoming only the second Chennai batsman (after Raina) to reach the 4000-run landmark. He has amassed 3,998 runs in India's cash-rich T20 tournament and could very well join his teammate in the elite list when he comes out to bat against Mumbai today. For Dhoni's good friend and teammate, Raina, clash against Mumbai presents an opportunity to the left-hander to complete 100 catches in the IPL. So far, Raina, who recently pipped Virat Kohli to reach 5,000 runs in the IPL, has taken 99 catches in the tournament and given his athleticism in the field, he is likely to achieve the milestone today. © Twitter/@IPL Last, but not the least, Bravo has been a key contributor to the Chennai brigade over the years. Thus, it is quite fitting for the Trinidadian cricketer gain the legendary status that will be fray against Mumbai today. Bravo is just one wicket away from becoming the first bowler to claim 100 scalps for Chennai in the IPL. For someone who has taken six wickets in three games this season, Bravo enjoys an excellent record against Mumbai. With 25 wickets to his name, Bravo currently holds the record for most wickets taken by a bowler against Mumbai. Going into what promises to be a pulsating encounter today, Chennai will need these three key players to step up if they intend to outperform Mumbai in their own den.
  22. In the world of cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for his many talents that have allowed him to rule our hearts over the year. His leadership skills saw Team India scaling new heights in international cricket. And, his blistering middle-order batting and lightening quick glovework continues to aid the team he represents on the field. But, apart from his talents on the field, Dhoni has managed to earn respect and admiration of cricket fans across the globe for his humility and down-to-earth attitude. Arguably a great human being, the Jharkhand cricketer has once again set an example for other cricketers by giving the hardworking ground staff their fair share of limelight. The special photograph was shared by Chennai on their official Twitter handle where Dhoni was seen in the company of the ground staff alongside teammates Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Mumbai's Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan. © Twitter/@IPL On the cricket front, Chennai's away game against Mumbai is touted to be a pulsating encounter as both the three-time IPL champions will be eager to outwit each other when they take the field on 3rd April. While Chennai is currently looking solid at the top spot with three consecutive wins this season, Mumbai have found themselves languishing at the seventh spot with just one win in three matches so far. Rohit Sharma's men were shocked by Delhi Capitals (DC) in their opening game. They did manage to bounce back after defeating Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their second match. But, an eight-wicket loss against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their third game pushed them down the table.
  23. Even if you are just a casual fan of cricket, you know that the former Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is famous for his unorthodox style of playing the game. Be it his uncanny ways of stumping the opponents from behind the wicket or the unique commentary as the keeper, Dhoni's mind works in mysterious ways. In more than 15 years of brilliance on the cricketing field, Dhoni's atypical methods have very seldom failed to provide the cricketer with desirable results and have continued to make his fans marvel at the way Dhoni's genius works. The man has even contributed to the game by coming up with a shot of his own! Popularly known as the 'Helicopter shot' this extraordinary maneuver isn't the prettiest shot in the world but it surely gets the job done for 'Thala'. In an unprecedented combination of wrist movement and beastly power from the shoulders, Dhoni's 'Helicopter shot' normally hits the ball on a low point while making the bat go in a circular motion instead of the typical 'above the shoulder' follow-through. While this is MSD's own creation, him attempting the shot has become extremely rare as his raw nature evolved with the help of experience and practice. However, there's a video that's surfaced on YouTube that shows Dhoni trying to hit the iconic shot on almost every single ball delivered by the Pakistani bowler Mohammad Asif. According to the video, India were in a comfortable spot requiring just 28 runs from 30 ball to win the game when Pak bowler Mohammad Asif came in to bowl the fifth last over of the game. It seems 'Mahi Bhai' was in some kind of hurry as he scored a couple of boundaries and even a maximum using just the Helicopter. He also hit two more deliveries in similar fashion but failed to collect runs on those. We'll never know what goes inside the cool and calm mind of the future ICC Hall of Famer. All we can do is sit back and acknowledge his greatness.
  24. The world's most celebrated cricket festival, the Indian Premier League (IPL), has begun taking a toll on its fans even before its arrival. Energising and pitting the fans against each other is one of the main elements which keeps the excitement-level at its peak. And what better way to kick off the season than highlighting the rivalry between two of the most beloved and legendary players of Indian cricket, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli? Both the master-class skippers will cross swords after almost a year when their respective IPL teams, Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) and Chennai Super Kings(CSK) kick off this season in Chennai on 23rd March 2019. Continuing the buzz created by the earlier promo of Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah pulling the legs of Dhoni and Kohli, the advertisers this time went to the next level by depicting how the megastars have succeeded in dividing the loyalties of the Indian cricket fans. Thala vs King â vs ð¥ ð vs ⤠Whose game will your heart beat for when defending champions @ChennaiIPL take on @RCBTweets in the first #VIVOIPL clash? Enjoying a good view of the feud while sipping on hot tea, the CSK skipper tells his RCB counterpart, "don't be late" in what promises to be a cracker of an opening game between the top two teams. Focusing on the concept of 'game more than the name,' Kohli sarcastically replies saying “sure” while covering dhoni's glass with an RCB coaster, highlighting the chemistry between the best friends. Keeping in mind their title victory in their comeback season last year, CSK will be hoping to continue the same form, whereas Kohli and Co, on the other hand, had a disaster of a season last year and will be looking forward to starting strong. Meanwhile, fans, not waiting for the actual battle on the field, have already started their feud on social media to prove that their team is the best. @imVkohli RCB will win this match...â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸ Kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli kohli...... — Girraj Sharma18 (@GirrajS30956768) March 14, 2019 Dhoni Dhoni Dhoni... just couldn't stop laughing at 15 seconds !!! 25. Following the ODI series against the visiting Australian cricket team comes as a wake-up call for the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI). It gives a hint of how dire a situation they are in right now and what kind of competition they are looking at in the ICC World Cup 2019 come June. It was also a reminder of how badly do they still need Mahendra Singh Dhoni to be included in the final roster. Virat Kohli's Commander In Chief © Reuters Yes, Virat Kohli has proven his worth maybe a million times both as a batsman and a leader and his efforts were even recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) when they honoured the 30-year-old with three of the most prestigious awards in the game - Men's Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year while also naming him the captain of the Test and ODI Teams of the Year. However, the man himself has agreed to the fact that he can afford the luxury of fielding at the boundary whenever Dhoni plays from his team. A big fan of the former skipper's ability to lead, Kohli trusts Dhoni's decision-making, especially in crunch time, when the match is on the line. Kohli's frustration and anger in the final overs of Indian bowling in the fifth ODI were enough to understand how gravely he missed having 'Mahi Bhai' by his side. Skills Behind The Stumps © Reuters Rishabh Pant may turn out to be a great substitute for MSD in due course of time and as his childhood coach Tarak Sinha very rightly said that it is unfair to compare a seasoned veteran like Dhoni to a fresher like Pant. Having said that, Pant will get a lot of chances to brush up his skills behind the wicket. For now, at least till the World Cup is over, India can't afford to have the kind of slip-ups the 21-year-old did in the last two ODIs. "Yeh aank band karke rokega. Dusra waala daal sakta hai isko." MS Dhoni from behind the stumps reads Boult, suggests Kuldeep to bowl a googly. Kuldeep obliges and Rohit takes a simple catch at first slip. NZ have been bowled out for 157. #CricketMeriJaan #NZvIND — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) January 23, 2019 India also missed how Dhoni reads the game and the batsman's mind and instructs the bowlers accordingly. Success of Indian spinners in the recent past has a lot to do with Dhoni's observations from behind the stumps. On the contrary, his absence from the roster has led to bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav being thrashed by the batsmen from Down Under. Dependable On The Crease © Reuters His capabilities as a batsman also needs to be taken into account. Albeit his consistency to score big runs and hit long shots has gone down drastically in recent days, but one can still bet on Dhoni's ability to stay on the crease. During the T20I and ODI series in New Zealand and the partnership between him and Jadhav, Dhoni made sure that his side doesn't lose any more wickets while enabling his partner to score big runs on strike. His Locker-Room Aura © Reuters Finally, just the mere presence of a personality like Dhoni in the locker room brings a sense of stability to the team. After the win in the first ODI, Jadhav openly advocated that notion: “Every time I see 'Mahi bhai', it instills confidence in me. That sort of aura is like, that you see him and feel that 'I will deliver today'. He has the knack of getting the best out of every player and that's what everybody loves about him.”
