SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered their second consecutive defeat of IPL 2022 as they went down fighting to debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 12 runs in a nail-biting encounter. Chasing 170 for victory, SRH lost their skipper Kane Williamson in the fourth over of the innings. The Kiwi captain smashed a couple of gorgeous boundaries but couldn’t convert his start into a big score, departing for a run-a-ball 16. View this post on Instagram The 31-year-old fell prey to the LSG speedster Avesh Khan while trying to scoop a delivery pitched way outside off stump over short fine leg region. Williamson had already collected a boundary on the first ball of that over but his second attempt ended in a misery, with Andrew Tye stationed at short fine-leg completing a diving catch. The reason we are talking about Williamson’s dismissal is that for the second game running his wicket has become a huge talking point on social media. Unlike the first match, the catch wasn’t the issue here. The point of contention was whether LSG had fielded an extra player outside the 30-yard circle inside the powerplay. This was the field setting on the ball that Kane Williamson got out but no one noticed enough to give a no ball.#IPL2022 #BCCI @IPL pic.twitter.com/U1dLYqpb7a — Aryan Gupta (@AryanCaptures) April 4, 2022 As per rules, maximum two players are allowed to protect the boundary ropes inside the first six overs but the visuals which have been doing rounds on the internet seem to suggest that three LSG players were fielding at the fence at the time of Williamson’s dismissal. If that was the case then the delivery on which Willamson got out was illegal and it should have been declared a no-ball. However, neither the match officials nor the SRH batters noticed it. @SunRisers please take action and lodge complaint kane is the most important member of our team his wicket is most important he has been out both times unfairly due to which we have lost possibly 4 points — aarush_msdian (@ripdevcric) April 5, 2022Goenka Premier league? — tweetstar123 (@tweetstar1213) April 5, 2022@SunRisers Time to lodge complain again — Cricket Fanatic (@Loyal_Cricket) April 5, 2022What was the non striker doing? May be graphics problem.... — RAKESH KUMAR (@RakeshBK9) April 5, 2022That graphic is wrong Cameraman problem — Anshdeep𓃵 (@anshztwitz) April 5, 2022 Some angry SRH fans are demanding the franchise to file another complaint with the IPL organising committee and this time demand strict action against the concerned match officials. It’s true that the graphic showed three fielders outside the ring but still it’s tough to say for sure what happened on the field. It’s quite possible that there was a glitch in the graphic and that’s why nobody complained about that. View this post on Instagram The umpiring errors are a huge threat to the league’s credibility and the BCCI must take steps to ensure that these things are not repeated in the future. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) began their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with the worst possible start as they lost to Rajasthan Royals by 61 runs. SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and invited Rajasthan to bat but the decision backfired as RR batters smashed 210 runs. Chasing a humongous target of 211, Williamson was involved in a contentious decision that went against SRH. In the second over of their chase, Prasidh Krishna found the outside edge of Williamson's bat and the ball ricocheted off a diving Sanju Samson before Devdutt Padikkal, stationed at first slip, apparently caught it inches above the ground. SRH head coach Tom Moody had expressed his displeasure over the controversial decision that went against them after the match. I can understand the on-field umpires taking it upstairs, and when that happened and we saw the evidence. We’re certainly not umpires, but it looked pretty clear to us what the decision was,” Moody had said after the match. Four days after the incident, SRH finally decided to file an official complaint against the decision that went against them in their defeat. According to a Cricbuzz report, SRH has written to the BCCI. "Yes, we've written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)," a franchise official confirmed to Cricbuzz. "The procedure is that the coach has to write and the process has been followed." Fans, however, were not too impressed with SRH filing a complaint days after the match and trolled them for potentially messing up another season. The trouble for SRH did not with the defeat as their skipper was fined Rs 12 lakh for keeping a slow over-rate in the match. The Indian cricket team fans were absolutely startled when a random Twitter user managed to predict some very specific details about Virat Kohli’s dismissal during the first innings of the first match between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali. On Day 1 of Virat Kohli’s 100th international Test, the former Indian skipper was welcomed by cheers and roars by his fans in Punjab as he hopped and skipped his way to the pitch after the dismissal of opener Mayank Agarwal. King Kohli walking out in his 100th Test and this is how he welcomed by crowd, the love he gets #100thTestForKingKohli #VK100#INDvSL #ViratKohli pic.twitter.com/j1G4UvJVBt — Riaaaaa (@riaa0riaa) March 4, 2022 With a well-established Hanuma Vihari already batting at the number three spot, Kohli took his time settling in. While the duo managed to score a partnership of 90 runs, the 33-year old batter contributed 45 runs to the Indian total before he was bowled out by Lasith Embuldeniya in the 44th over. It was a decent delivery that took Kohli by absolute surprise. The 25-year old Sri Lankan bowler delivered a fuller ball that landed around the middle stump before turning away towards the off. Knowing that it was a tricky one to play, Kohli tried defending it. However, the batter got beat as the ball gets an outside edge and knocked off the stump. Although the dismissal might seem to be nothing out of the ordinary, a post shared by one of the users on Twitter suddenly started catching a lot of attention by the fans for the practically supernatural level of predictions. Kohli Won't score a 100 in his 100th test. Will score 45 (100) with 4 gorgeous cover drives and then Embuldeniya will knock his stumps over and he'll pretend to be shocked and will nod his head in disappointment — shruti #100 (@Quick__Single) March 3, 2022 In the tweet, it was written that Kohli will not be scoring a century on his 100th Test and if fact he would be dismissed at 45 runs (which happened in reality). It was also mentioned that it would be Embuldeniya who will claim his wicket (which happened in reality) and that he will clean bowled him (which happened in reality). Here’s where it gets even crazier. It was also predicted that as soon as the ball will dislodge the bail, Kohli would “pretend to be shocked” (which also happened in reality!). Indian batters dominated the opening day’s play at Super Sport Park in Centurion and began the three-match Test series on a terrific note. Indian Test Skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and made a brave call of batting in the overcast conditions. Given India openers’ past record in the Rainbow Nation, it was a decision that could have backfired. View this post on InstagramHowever, the discipline the two Indian openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal showed in the middle, proved their captain’s decision right. They batted with patience, left deliveries outside off stump as much as possible and defended those bowled on the stumps line. All of their hard work paid off as they stitched a terrific century stand for the opening wicket and got India to a perfect start. Having tried everything, the South African pacers were running out of options but they finally got the breakthrough in a controversial manner. To the naked eye, it seemed that the delivery would have gone over the stumps. Even the on-field umpire gave the benefit of doubt to the Indian opener. With the umpire’s call being not-out most of the Indian fans thought that Agarwal would survive because there was no way this delivery would return three reds on the ball-tracking. #SAvIND WICKET! Ind 117/1 pic.twitter.com/gkX3FZOTBt — The Field (@thefield_in) December 26, 2021 But to their surprise, the ball-tracking suggested that the ball would have crashed on to the top of leg stump, hence the on-field umpire was asked to overturn his initial decision. Like millions of fans, the 30-year-old batter also couldn’t believe what he just saw on the replay and had no choice but to march back to the pavilion. A long after reaching the dressing room, Agarwal was seen shaking his head. This controversial dismissal led to a huge outrage on social media as Indian fans couldn’t digest how the ball-tracking defied all logic and showed a completely opposite result than what they had anticipated. Agarwal gave a rather honest answer and said that even though he did not agree with the decision he wasn’t allowed to say anything at all because it could result in him getting a hefty fine from the match referee. There was nothing Agarwal could do to change his fate that’s why he chose to seal his mouth and make sure that he took every single penny of his hard-earned money. Now that’s some smart decision. The opening batsman and the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma’s test cricket woes continue to haunt him in the first of Test matches against the touring England squad at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. After the struggling bowling attack finally managed to dismiss the entire England batting lineup for a mammoth 578-run total, the Men in Blue required a long and effective innings by their senior players and desperately needed Sharma to have a decent stint at the pitch. View this post on InstagramBut instead of sticking to the crease and providing his side with a stable innings, Sharma ended up throwing his wicket on just the ninth delivery he faced. After sending a Jofra Archer delivery for a four, Sharma was unable to gauge the following ball and the edge off his bat ended up sitting comfortably in wicket-keeper Jos Butler’s gloves for a caught-behind. Dismissed for just six runs, Sharma had a herd of Indian fans begging him to retire from the longest format of the game and focus on what he does best, dominate in white-ball cricket. Over the four innings that Sharma got to bat in during the Australia series, his scores read 26, 52, 44 and 7 respectively and every single time he was dismissed, it was off a catch and the trend seems to continue at home as well. View this post on InstagramShortly after Sharma’s dismissal, a series-old Shubman Gill also got out thanks to a blinding effort by the 38-year old James Anderson who took a diving catch at mid-on. The young opener was playing aggressive cricket and had already scored 29 runs off just 28 deliveries which included five 4’s coming off his blade. Skipper Virat Kohli and the rest of the batting lineup will have to play at a high level if they wish to survive the first innings against the extremely confident Jofra Archer-led England bowling squad.
