  1. BEIJING: Carrie Gracie, the China editor for Britain?s public broadcaster, the BBC, has resigned from her post in Beijing due to pay disparities with her male colleagues, according to an open letter she wrote. The BBC has come under fire recently for paying male employees more and has pledged to close the gender gap by 2020. In July, it revealed as part of a funding settlement with the government that it paid its then top male star five times more than its best-paid female presenter, and that two-thirds of on-air employees earning at least 150,000 pounds ($203,500) were men. Gracie said there was a 'crisis of trust' at BBC, where she has worked for 30 years. Photo: Guardian In a letter published on her personal blog on Sunday, Gracie said there was a ?crisis of trust? at the broadcaster, where she has worked for 30 years, and that it was ?breaking equality law and resisting pressure for a fair and transparent pay structure?. The BBC had four international editors, two men and two women, of which she was one, she said. When the BBC revealed top salaries as part of last year?s settlement, Gracie said she learned that the two men made at least 50 per cent more money than the women in those roles. She said she had since been offered a pay increase that remained ?far short of equality? and left her post in Beijing last week, returning to her former job in the BBC TV newsroom. ?The BBC must admit the problem, apologise and set in place an equal, fair and transparent pay structure,? she said, calling for an independent arbitration to settle individual cases at the broadcaster. The BBC cited a BBC spokeswoman as saying that ?fairness in pay? at the corporation is ?vital?, and that an audit of pay for rank and file staff led by an independent judge found there was ?no systemic discrimination against women?.
  2. As head of one of the Conde Nast group's most prestigious titles, Carter has been a figure in the glitterati of New York and Hollywood for years-Reuters Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, an eminent figure in New York celebrity circles and a longtime nemesis of President Donald Trump, announced his retirement Thursday after 25 years at the cultural magazine. "Graydon is departing from the magazine after 25 years -- even while we're happily aware that this won't be the last we hear of him," Vanity Fair said in a farewell tribute. Carter, 68, told the New York Times: "I want to leave while the magazine is on top.. I want to leave while it's in vibrant shape, both in the digital realm and the print realm. And I wanted to have a third act -- and I thought, time is precious." As head of one of the Conde Nast group's most prestigious titles, Carter has been a figure in the glitterati of New York and Hollywood for years. Under Carter, Vanity Fair was known for hosting lavish parties and publishing well-known writers and photographers, and for its investigative reports. Vanity Fair was the first to unveil the identity of the Watergate source "Deep Throat," and also published a controversial nude photo of pregnant actress Demi Moore. In December, Vanity Fair saw its subscriptions rise 100-fold after a tweet by Trump, who was then president-elect, responding to a negative review of his Trump Grill restaurant. "Has anyone looked at the really poor numbers of @VanityFair Magazine. Way down, big trouble, dead! Graydon Carter, no talent, will be out!" Trump wrote. But the feud between the two went back to 1988, when Carter described Trump as a "short-fingered vulgarian" in an article in Spy magazine. In 2012, Trump tweeted, "Can't wait for Vanity Fair to fold which, under Graydon Carter, will be sooner rather than later." He later derided the journalist as a "loser." Carter returned the insults in his writings. In 2015, he wrote: "The myriad vulgarities of Donald Trump -- examples of which are retailed daily on Web sites and front pages these days -- are not news to those of us who have been living downwind of him for any period of time." The editor said Trump never got over the "short-fingered vulgarian" insult and that he would receive letters from Trump in response to the description. In the envelope, Carter said, "There is always a photo of him -- generally a tear sheet from a magazine. On all of them he has circled his hand in gold Sharpie in a valiant effort to highlight the length of his fingers." Carter, who succeeded Tina Brown at the magazine, is expected to depart in December.
  3. Image Courtesy: New England Today NEW YORK: Judith Jones ? the legendary editor who rescued Anne Frank's diary from a US publisher's rejection pile ? died on Wednesday, aged 93. Jones ? a luminary of the publishing world, who also introduced the world to American culinary writer Julia Child ? was close to literary giants such as John Updike, Anne Tyler, William Maxwell, John Hersey, Peter Taylor, and Sharon Olds. She passed away at her home in Vermont, the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group said in a statement. She worked for Knopf for more than 50 years, joining the company in 1957 and officially retiring only in 2011. "Judith was a legend in book publishing," said Sonny Mehta, chairman and editor-in-chief, paying tribute to the once young assistant who rescued Frank's "Diary of a Young Girl" from a rejection pile in Paris. The diary, which the young Jewish girl had written while hiding from the Nazis between June 1942 and August 1944, is one of the most famous testimonies of life in World War II and one of the most famous diaries of all time. Frank ? who was born in Germany and lived with her family in the Netherlands ? died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp aged 15, just months before the war ended. Her diary was first published in the Netherlands in 1947, followed by French and German editions in 1950, before appearing in Britain and the United States in 1952. The first US edition of "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" ran a modest 5,000 copies and contained a preface from former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Doubleday reputedly spent little on publicity, but sales quickly took off. A subsequent US play "Diary of Anne Frank" was a Broadway hit and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1956. A 1959 Hollywood movie won three Oscars. The diary has been a fixture on school curricula since the 1960s. Worldwide, the diary has sold more than 30 million copies in 67 languages. Jones was also instrumental in persuading Alfred Knopf to publish in 1961 "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" ? a tome that introduced generations of American home cooks to French food and to now legendary chef Julia Child. "It is no exaggeration to say that she profoundly influenced not only the way America reads and but also the way we cook," Mehta said Wednesday. Jones won five Pulitzer Prizes, five National Book Awards, and three National Book Critics Circle Awards, and her cookbook authors won dozens and dozens of prizes, said Knopf Doubleday.

Create an Imgur account, and then register an application here: https://api.imgur.com/oauth2/addclient Now you have a client ID, which is to be used in the Imgur plugin we add to the editor. 2. Download the Imgur plugin from http://ckeditor.com/addon/imgur Go to your ACP-> Customization-> Editor--> Toolbars-> "Add Button". Upload the plugin file(zip) for installation.
