  2. We wonder if there is anything that engineers canât pull off? From studying engineering for four years to pursuing a career in a creative field, youâll find them with the hidden talent to making a success out of anything they choose to do. © Unsplash Recently, The Madhya Pradesh police found an engineer living in a cave ever since the lockdown began on March 24. The man is a Mumbai resident and embarked on Narmada Parikrama which is a very popular pilgrimage in the area when he got stranded in a forest. Now the police has handed him over to his relatives. Virendra Singh Dogra was found living in a cave in the forest in Raisen district and he has been living there for over a month now. © BCCL The police found a few clothes and a copy of the Mahabharata with him and it couldnât get any more dramatic. The man was on a journey to Namada Parikrama but left it halfway as the journey involves walking around the Narmada River on foot from Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh to the river mouth in Gujarat. © BCCL Virendra stopped at Kuandevri Village at the house of a relative when the lockdown began on March 22. Later, people spotted him living in a cave and reported the matter to the forest department and the police. Virendra explained to the police that he lives in Navi Mumbai and also told them that his sister lives in Hyderabad. Later, his sister corroborated the story to the police. Then the police sent him to his relative's house in Kuandevri village. © BCCL Now, thatâs a lot of drama and it sounds like a script from a very dramatic Bollywood movie that wouldnât impress the audience that much. 3. Until a few hours ago, Sundar Pichai was known as the CEO of Google. But, now he will also be known as the CEO of Alphabet, after co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped down from their posts.' In a letter bidding goodbye to their managerial roles, Larry Page and Sergey Brin wrote "While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it's time to assume the role of proud parents — offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!" © Reuters And with that, the 47-year-old IIT Kharagpur alumni became the CEO of Google's parent company as well and left the whole country beaming with pride. Page and Brin will continue to remain board members and shareholders of the company. I'm excited about Alphabet's long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. Thanks to Larry & Sergey, we have a timeless mission, enduring values and a culture of collaboration & exploration - a strong foundation we'll continue to build on https://t.co/tSVsaj4FsR — Sundar Pichai (@sundarpichai) December 4, 2019 Pichai wrote a letter for other employees where he spoke about how change has been the only thing constant in his 15+ years in Google. According to Pichai, this change has come 15 years after he first met Page and Brin. He wrote, "I first met Larry and Sergey back in 2004 and have been benefiting from their guidance and insights ever since. The good news is I'll continue to work with them -- although in different roles for them and me. They'll still be around to advise as board members and co-founders." © Reuters He further added, "The founders have given all of us an incredible chance to have an impact on the world. Thanks to them, we have a timeless mission, enduring values, and a culture of collaboration and exploration that makes it exciting to come to work every day. It's a strong foundation on which we will continue to build. Can't wait to see where we go next and look forward to continuing the journey with all of you." While it's great news for Pichai, no one is happier than desi people who have flooded social media with congratulatory messages for him. Well, we can understand their excitement, this news brings hope to all the desi engineers. India's most robust export product is probably the 'Global CEO.' 4. 2019 is shaping up to be a major milestone for eco-friendly tech with governments across the world including India's, taking major strides towards an electrically powered transport sector. While it may take several years for this to come to fruition, a brilliant team of Israeli engineers has come up with a novel intermediary solution - engine prototypes that run on water and ethanol. © Jerusalem Post The team from MayMaan Research LLC, is the brainchild of the Shmueli family. Led by 81-year old veteran engineer Yehuda Shmueli (who is assisted by his sons Eitan and Doron), the engines they've come up with are essentially conventional piston engines, designed to run on 70% water and 30% ethanol or any other kind of alcohol - completely bypassing the need for fossil fuels. The most radical thing about this prototype is that any car engine can be tuned and modified to fit its specifications, without major modifications. The results are twofold - not only would fossil fuels remain conserved along with spending on fuel - even the emissions figures are considerably lower. Highly reactive and toxic to life, sulphur and nitrogen oxides are completely avoided in Maymaan's engines. © Jerusalem Post The prototypes exist in four forms - a fully-functional vehicle, a power generator and different specifications of engines. We're told that the performance figures are considerable, with sufficient torque, power and efficiency numbers. Unsurprisingly, the prototypes took a staggering six years to design - with plans kept under secrecy through the development phase. Though Yehuda feels that the automobile market is currently too fixated on electric vehicles, he remains confident in his work. © Jerusalem Post "We have stayed under the radar for the past six years,” he said. “We decided that this is the right time to expose ourselves and talk to people and let the world know that such a solution exists."

One look at the 2 minutes 45 seconds video and you know that people will remember this movie for multiple reasons, and not just for being a remake of 'Arjun Reddy'. © T-Series When most people were busy comparing it to the superhit Telugu movie 'Arjun Reddy' starring Vijay Deverakonda, some people on the internet were busy dissecting the trailer and churning out funny memes out of it. © T-Series In fact, the desi engineers seemed to have struck a chord with some of the dialogues and scenes from the trailer, and these memes are too damn relatable. 6. "Akalmand to tum ho, nakalmand ban sakte ho ya nahi?" says Emraan Hashmi to a student, in this gripping trailer of 'Cheat India' that dropped today. And from that very point, everyone who is watching the trailer knows where the movie is headed. © T-Series In our growing years, we were taught never to cheat in exams. As we grew up and entered class 12th and then college, cheating became a fad that got everyone addicted to it. The 2 minute video delves into that dark side of the Indian education system. © T-Series The trailer shows Emraan Hashmi's character hiring a brilliant student to sit in the engineering entrance exams on behalf of other students. What started out as a successful scamming strategy with the two men filling their pockets and of the needy, soon lands them in a pool of troubles with no exit out of it. 'Cheat India' is being directed by Soumik Sen, and produced by the makers of 'Neerja' and 'Tumhari Sulu'. Emraan Hashmi looks highly impressive in the trailer of the movie that is releasing on January 25, 2019.
  7. 'Mass-bunks' were a huge rage in our college days. Missing classes to go for movies or just hang out with friends in Hauz Khas village was a huge deal back in the day, and something that we majorly miss in this competitive corporate life. But, clearly, some desi engineers don't miss 'mass-bunks' even at work. While most of us are busy getting our Diwali leaves approved, 236 desi engineers once went on a 6-week (or 47 days approx.) mass-bunk and were recently fired for the same. © Pexels This incident happened in Pune, where the company ZF Steering & Gears India, a German-based auto parts manufacturing firm fired as many as 236 engineers for not showing up to work without any prior notice. The employees were absent from December 2, 2017 to January, 19 2018. According to a report in Business Today, the company stated in a release that the concerned employees were found guilty of 'misconduct'. "The Company finally decided to terminate the employment of these 236 employees with effect from 26/27th October, 2018. All the concerned employees have been paid their due amount under the provisions of law." © Pexels ZF Steering & Gears India manufactures and supplies ball and nut integral hydraulic power and roller mechanical steering systems, and some of their major clients are Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Volvo Group to name a few. Obviously this decision didn't go down too well with the terminated employees. Reportedly, the workers strongly protested against the decision and claim that they were fired not because of the 'mass-bunk', but, for forming a workers' union. Having said that, let's get back to begging our managers to approve our long-pending leaves because 'mass-bunk' is not an idea we should take example from.

  9. We are sure most of you must have seen movies like 'Dunkirk', 'Blade Runner 2049', 'Rampage', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales', 'The Hobbit', 'Spectre', or 'Spider-man: Homecoming'. While, we thoroughly loved watching them and their drop-dead striking aerial shots, I'm sure most of us barely gave a thought to the hard work and technology that went behind it. But, Oscars did. Hence, they decided to acknowledge and appreciate their efforts at the Scientific and Technical Awards that took place over the weekend in Beverly Hills. The 90th Academy Awards aka the coveted Oscars 2018 is still a few weeks away. © Twitter However, this is not the reason why we are jumping up and down in excitement and beaming with pride at the same time. It's the fact that India received a great reward for its contribution in movies. In case you are scratching your heads in confusion, here's what happened. Vikas Sathaye, a genius Indian engineer raised in Mumbai, proved his mettle in front of the whole world and made the nation proud with his achievements; after he won an Oscar for Shotover K1 Camera System. Sathaye was a part of the esteemed four-member team that was honoured with the scientific and engineering award “for the concept, design, engineering and implementation of the Shotover K1 Camera System.” Brad Hurndell, John Coyle and Shane Buckham were the other team members. © Reuters We realize most of you will be confused right now wondering what did they really do, but trust us, you're not alone. So here's how the Academy broke down the explanation. Apparently, this is a “six-axis stabilized aerial camera mount” that has an “enhanced ability to frame shots while looking straight down.” Reportedly, Sathaye joined Shotover Camera Systems, located in Queenstown, New Zealand in 2009. He worked on the aerial mount there. In fact, Sathaye said, “One of the reasons to start this company in Queenstown was the natural beauty and stunning scenery which attract a lot of film producers and directors.” He further explained, “The camera mount gets attached to the base of a helicopter, which carries the camera and lens. Its primary function is to eliminate any vibration from reaching the camera and thus getting steady footage. The other function for the camera mount is to move the camera head in the desired direction as required by the camera operator, who sits inside the helicopter and uses a joystick to control the camera head movement.” Isn't this so cool? Sathaye was born in 1967 in Pune and spent most part of his life in Mumbai. After school, he completed a diploma in instrumentation from VPM's polytechnic, Thane. Then, he studied BE in electronics from VIT Pune and MTech in instrumentation from IISc. Sathaye was earlier a teacher, who taught at Pune Cummins College of Engineering for Women for a couple of years, during which he was sent to Italy for a project and it was there that he got inspired to take up this field. © Shotover So what do we learn from this folks? First, Oscars 2018 is around the corner and it's becoming difficult to contain our excitement. Second, let's not judge or make memes and jokes on engineers anymore guys; if they can create such brilliant and Oscar-worthy concepts, we guess they can do anything in the world and outer space and any other dimension they might have accidently found.fww
  10. Well, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson can do about anything in this whole world, that's not surprising, but can he really jump off world's tallest building to save his family, that too with a prosthetic leg? Well, if anyone can do it, it would be The Rock himself, but I'm still sceptical and I'm not the only one. Let's examine. I'm pretty sure everyone has seen the trailer and the poster of Dwayne Johnson's upcoming blockbuster 'Skyscraper', but if you haven't, here's a little refresher. Here's the kickass first trailer of the movie which is not like 'Die Hard' at all, don't listen to people, it's completely original. And now, the poster which honestly looks quite cool – We're all willing to sacrifice it all when it comes to protecting our families. Here's the first look at our original concept film, #SKYSCRAPER. THIS SUNDAY during the #SuperBowl you'll see how far one man will go to protect his wife and children. #SKYSCRAPER SUMMER 2018 pic.twitter.com/IvFGptLb67 — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) February 2, 2018 In theory, the poster looks amazing, but people aren't sure of the practicality of it. No one can make that jump, and people are now jumping to their own conclusions as to what will happen to someone if they actually try it. Going by the poster, the movie would actually turn from action to tragedy pretty soon, because there's no way in hell that even The Rock can make that jump, unless it was a hardcore Bollywood movie, because let's be real, anything is possible in those. I can totally imagine any of the Khan's doing this stunt and perfectly landing on their feet. But, Hollywood is going the desi way and I'm not sure how I feel about that. The engineers of Twitter are here to dissect the whole thing and come out with receipts. Let's begin. No way out of it man. I've mocked up some parabolas for The Rock's SKYSCRAPER jump. Red is assuming he jumped up a bit first; green assuming he ran forward and somehow didn't lose momentum; yellow for a sort of squat-thrust thing. Whichever you choose, rest in peace The Rock, as you are dead now. pic.twitter.com/cAytzrWMRW — James Smythe (@jpsmythe) February 2, 2018 More people started taking notice and if you're still not satisfied, one more person did actual calculations to debunk the jump. So I did some science. Assuming that there is no "jump-off" (which seems to be optimal here) We can determine that the Rock would need to leave the platform at 12.7 meters per second (appr. 28.4 mph) For comparison, Usain Bolt's fastest recorded speed is 27.4 mph. pic.twitter.com/GruWcbtEAN — â¨New Year New Christian⨠(@ChristianBedwel) February 3, 2018 This person did it just for fun on the internet, I couldn't even do calculations in school. First of all, how and why but also, respect man. So basically, we learned that if Johnson is trying to launch himself over to that window entirely of his own power, he'd have to be faster than freaking Usain Bolt. Things are getting more scientific now. I've thought long and hard about this, applying everything I know about science to bring you the definitive answer: if he just catches the leg of the K, he can use his momentum and the velocity in which he is travelling to allyoop into the window. He might have to grab the ledge pic.twitter.com/yjpuPpV9I9 — Jamie Rorison (@JamieRorison) February 2, 2018 Well, if we go into the technicalities, this is what would happen. pic.twitter.com/L9xhHnqNIt — Jaws That Bite (@JawsThatBite) February 5, 2018 Maybe, it's that. Double jump, obviously — Dominic Wong (@pappaxray) February 2, 2018 One more possibility. Or he has perfected the invisible box challenge to work for boxes of any height — ð¦ rdwrtPimSchravendijk (@rdwrt) February 3, 2018 This is all of us trying to science. pic.twitter.com/rf3W4nWZXn — Partha Srinivasan (@parthans) February 4, 2018 There's nothing bad photoshop can't fix. Easily fixed: pic.twitter.com/mLdWObAChc — Rapscallion (@RapscallionDK) February 4, 2018 Well, now we know. Update from the producers: pic.twitter.com/ApsGY7nWzn — Tom Tompkins (@cptfunnyfunkins) February 3, 2018 So many possibilities. pic.twitter.com/0A8ldILy7r — Dave Baker (@Dave_the_Baker) February 3, 2018 Well. Is it possible that @TheRock has extra large lats and they act like a fixed-winged-flying-squirrel get-up that lets him glide between elevations? — Jordan Anderson (@icywarm) February 4, 2018 But, the bottom line is there's no point finding logic in movies, because science apparently doesn't exist in the film world. 12. A virtual reality "space ride" in which viewers feel as if they are flying through the air inside a giant glass ball has been developed in Japan. Unlike conventional VR systems, the "8K:VR Ride" - which resembles a cross between a theme park ride and a miniature IMAX theatre - does not require users to wear any headgear. Instead they are placed on two swiveling, elevated chairs just in front of a semi-spherical screen which entirely engulfs their field of vision. "Unlike the conventional flat screen, you can see images coming closer to you physically in this dome screen," said Makoto Nakahira, an engineer at Wonder Vision Techno Laboratory. "This is a system in which you can experience visuals that you have never seen before." The experimental technology was unveiled to Japanese media for the first time on Tuesday before a scheduled showing at Japan's Digital Content Expo 2017 in October. Its name refers to the screen's super-high definition 8K technology, which is 16 times more detailed than most current HD images. Wonder Vision co-developed the system with Japan-based NHK Enterprises and NHK Media Technology - both affiliated with public broadcaster NHK - and RecoChoku Labo. The space ride was first showcased at SXSW 2017, a major conference on convergence in the interactive, film and music industries, in Austin, Texas in March. The system features a hemispherical theatre known as Sphere 5.2 -- a screen 5.2 metres (17 feet) wide, 3.4 metres tall and 2.6 metres deep.
  13. There are various devices that track your car’s movements and health but they are either too expensive for Indian consumers or not accessible to everyone due to availability issues. Four engineers from IIT designed a plug-and-play device that does exactly that. It has an inbuilt 2G SIM card to track your car’s movements and send alerts to your smartphone, in case your car is getting jacked. © Carnot It also alerts emergency contacts in case you are involved in an accident and measures your driving style with a ranking system. The device lets you stay connected to your car at all times given that your smartphone has working internet in order to be synced with the tracker/OBD manager. The device also won Qualcomm’s Design award earlier this year and here’s why we think it deserved it. How it works The Carnot device is easy to install and all you have to do is connect it to the OBD port of your car. The app lets you feed in your car details and prompts a video on how to find the port for your specific car model. The OBD port is generally below the steering wheel and one can install simply by plugging it in similar to how you connect a flash drive to a USB port. © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma After the installation, you will need to feed in your personal details, emergency contacts and other information on the official app. You will need to enter a 16-digit unique code that comes with the device and you are ready to go. Just make sure the car is parked in an open area as it uses mobile connectivity to pair with the app when setting up for the first time. © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma Once connected, you will get real-time updates about your car and the performance it is giving. I drive a Hyundai Creta and got some extremely useful information from the app. The app notifies you every time there is engine ignition and tracks the progress of your drive. You can set the app to notify you about unusual activities such as the car starting after a certain time. For example, according to my settings, if my car starts anytime after 1:00 AM, the app will send me a notification to check whether I am driving or whether the car has been stolen. The device will also track my fuel efficiency and the temperature of the coolant in case something is not in order. The device communicates with the computer on board my car and gives me a daily report about my driving style, it reports if I went above my speed limit and ranks my overall performance. Here are a few examples that might paint a better picture: Live GPS Tracking © MensXP Car Health © MensXP Driver Performance and Reports © MensXP Rash Driving tracking © MensXP Coolant Temperature Tracking © MensXP The Final Say © MensXP/Samiksha Sharma In our honest opinion, the Carnot is a device that every car owner should install. It gives you regular updates about your car’s health that you would normally never notice and adds security in terms of theft control. The device is also efficient when it comes to your driving style and suggests tips that could increase the fuel efficiency of your car. It is the one stop OBD manager that provides details about your ride. The device costs INR 5,999 and is worth every Rupee.
  14. Engineers from across Mexico streamed into a cramped hotel lobby in the industrial city of Monterrey for a chance of a job with the U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), which is looking south of the border for talent in short supply at home. The fair was held at a delicate time for American firms hiring abroad as President Donald Trump reviews immigration rules for bringing high-skilled foreign workers to the United States, part of a "buy American, hire American" policy. Tesla, which prides itself on its "Made in America" credentials, had scheduled interviews with an unknown number of Mexican candidates on Friday and was slated to screen other prospective employees over the weekend at the closed-door event. The Silicon Valley automaker is recruiting in the United States' neighbor for work on robotics and other automated equipment at its Fremont, California factory, where it aims to build 500,000 cars a year by 2018, a six-fold increase from 2016. The factory will build Tesla's upcoming Model 3. Mexico boasts a substantial pool of experienced manufacturing engineers, with 19 automotive plants owned by global automakers including General Motors Co (GM.N), Ford Motor Co (F.N), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCHA.MI) and Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE). A steady tide of hopefuls showed up at the event unannounced and without an appointment, some having traveled hundreds of kilometers, mistakenly thinking it was an open recruiting fair. Several dozen were turned away. Tesla gave them a brief explanation about the mix-up, said those being interviewed were often already weeks into their application processes, and directed them to email their resumes, according to more than a dozen mechanical, mechatronic, electrical and chemical engineers that Reuters spoke with outside the event. Representatives from Tesla headquarters in California and recruiters in Monterrey declined to comment on the event or the company's hiring plans in Mexico. Reporters were escorted off the premises by security. The call from a top U.S. company to Mexican engineers contrasts with the White House's cooler stance toward both Mexico and high-skilled immigrants. In his first days in office, Trump pressured U.S. companies to stop moving manufacturing and jobs to lower cost Mexico. He also wants to overhaul a visa system that he says replaces Americans with workers from other countries, but shortages of engineers make it hard for technology companies to hire only Americans. Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk is himself an immigrant from South Africa who sits on Trump's business advisory council. Tesla has been actively hiring in the past few months for assembly-line jobs at its Fremont plant but has found that manufacturing engineers are in even shorter supply than software engineers in Silicon Valley. Despite being turned away at the Monterrey event, most of the engineers, some with 20 years of experience under their belts, other fresh out of college, remained optimistic about their prospects. By evening the lobby of the Grand Fiesta Americana hotel in the northern city was abuzz with prospective candidates cradling beige folders holding their resumes. Word spread quickly after a recruiting poster was published on LinkedIn by Tesla's senior technical recruiter, David Johnson, listing 15 types of engineers the company would be seeking at the event in Monterrey. The post was picked up by foreign and Mexican media and also redistributed by local government on social media. One mechanical engineer, who boasted of several years of research and development work at a foreign automaker in Mexico, made the 1,000-kilometer journey from near Mexico City, one of many who traveled from afar in the hopes of securing an interview. "Tesla is an innovative company, it's offering the future of mobility," said the engineer, who like almost all those consulted by Reuters asked not to be named so as to not jeopardize their chances with the prospective employer. For the emerging talent, the lure of Tesla was undisputed. "It's a project that has a big future, these are the cars of the new era," said Nadia Marrufo, a 22-year-old chemical engineer specializing in industrial processes.
  15. Already smashing records within 5 days of its release, ‘Baahubali 2’ is India’s ‘Game Of Thrones’. Indian cinema hasn’t seen something as epic and large-scale as this. The sheer grandeur of the scenes overwhelms you, even if the plot seems like a cross between a comedy and a superhero film. The battle sequences are goosebump-inducing and the fights all too real. The last fight between Baahubali and Bhallala Deva is a clash among the titans, the kind that causes the earth to tremble and the skies to thunder. © Dharma Productions With a huge investment of money and manpower, Rajamouli has made a confident film. He has done what Bollywood hasn’t been able to do yet. ‘Baahubali’ is unapologetically epic. Although some of the sequences are so unbelievable they become humorous, there are many that are so well thought-out, you’d be surprised it can actually happen. © Dharma Productions Prabhas carries the film’s most orgasmic moments on his super ripped bod. He can break mountains, shoot three arrows with one shot, ride raging bulls, and defeat a whole army of barbaric cannibals single-handedly. He is Rajinikanth-meets-Sunny-Deol-meets-Superman. He is undefeatable. It’s almost bicep porn, if we can call it that. © Dharma Productions If in the first film, it was the huge Shiva lingam he lifts with his bare hands, he takes on vast armies single-handedly in the second part. The movie starts with him making a dramatic entry at a nail-biting moment when he pushes a building-sized rath to vanquish an agitating elephant, saving his mother’s life. He is the son every mother dreams of, the husband every woman fantasizes about, the man every man dreams of becoming, in a parallel universe. © Dharma Productions Baahubali’s superhero strength is not the only winner here. His jugaad engineering skills are so on point, the movie is every engineer’s wet dream. Imagine winning a battle with your impromptu engineering feats. You see an army approaching in the middle of the night and you transform into a high-functioning superhero ninja. In the blink of an eye, you come up with a winning plan – putting fire to the horns of raging bulls, you use them to crash a dam onto the charging enemy. Baahubali’s ingenious idea to get his soldiers into Bhallala Deva castle – forming balls of steel with their shields and being hurled from coconut trees – is something that would give even IITians a run for their money. © Dharma Productions The muscular hero sees women struggling to carry heavy pots of water and he makes an automatic water pulley. He sees men getting injured while smashing boulders and he builds an assembly-line boulder-cutter. Had Baahubali been born today, he would’ve been an engineer with patents to his name. This is the India of flying vehicles and battle ‘chakravyuhs’ we’ve always heard of. A ripped hero who no man can defeat and one with the brains of Tony Stark. You’ve got to be a mad genius to be able to do both. Baahubali is every man’s most ambitious dream. © Dharma Productions In all its grandiose charm and action, however, the film betrays some unintentional comic moments and that is where it falls short of becoming as epic as ‘Game of Thrones’. I must admit I came out of the hall laughing, even though I loved the film. And so did many others. If not for so many characters dying, the film could have been a brilliant exercise in comedy. © Dharma Productions For example, Devasena’s dismissal of the Rajmata borders on the slapstick. Standing tall with her head held high in the grand court, amongst hundreds of courtiers, Devasena cuts a majestic picture but dissolves the seriousness of the scene when she asks the Rajmata if she is stupid. It’s as if Devasena has been given a sharp tongue to bring about a plot twist, but along with the twist it also brings in humour. But then, just like every hero has a tragic flaw, a brilliant film too can fall victim to a flaw or two. Doesn’t take the greatness away from it. ‘Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion’ is a film of epic proportions, even if the action borders on the comic at times and Prabhas’ biceps overwhelm you more than the plot.

Companies started developing complex frameworks and artificial intelligence in order to incorporate these cars. These algorithms developed by engineers will use textbooks and courses as a reference in order for the AI to learn how to drive cars by themselves. © Google However, a company called DeepDrive has now come up with a project that uses the popular crime franchise GTA V (Grand Theft Auto) as a digital proving ground for their artificial intelligence. GTA as a game has environments that are populated cities and traffic conditions that come close real-life scenarios. © Reuters The DeepDrive team elaborates: “The high fidelity and vast open world provided by GTAV also presents the most complex virtual RL environment to date for testing the sensorimotor AI. This allows a new level of testing for safety in AI as existing environments don’t offer the same opportunities for reward hacking, distributional shift, and negative side effects. Finally, developing self-driving cars out in the open provides a level of transparency not usually seen in AI applications and in an area where it is crucial to have visibility into both the safety and correctness of the system.” I’ve spent countless amount of hours on GTA to improve my driving ‘habits’ and have always failed because the game sometimes felt too real for my liking. However, this reality in GTA might just aid researchers and engineers in developing AI that would be perfect for a self-driven car. Let’s hope the AI doesn’t learn how to do this:
