  1. Whenever neighbouring countries India and Pakistan lock horns on the cricket field, the excitement around this massive fixture tends to reach an all-time high. The fans on both sides of the border are seen taunting each other on social media and, every now and then, Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza finds herself caught in the crosshairs. Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border 𤮠seriously guys, you don't need to 'hype up' or market the match anymore specially with rubbish! it has ENOUGH attention already! It's only cricket for God sake, and if you think it's anymore than that then get a grip or get a life !! — Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) June 12, 2019 Ahead of the Indo-Pak encounter at the ongoing ICC World Cup, Mirza had tweeted her frustration over the unnecessary hype around the much-anticipated fixture which also saw a distasteful video coming to the fore. "Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border 𤮠seriously guys, you don't need to 'hype up' or market the match anymore specially with rubbish! it has ENOUGH attention already! It's only cricket for God sake, and if you think it's anymore than that then get a grip or get a life," she had tweeted. But, despite the extensive build-up, the so-called mother of all battles failed to live up to the billing. In what turned out to be a one-sided affair, Pakistan were overshadowed in almost all facets of the game by a rampant Indian brigade during their 89-run loss (D/L) at Old Trafford in Manchester. Witnessing their national team lose to arch-rivals India, the Pakistani fans wasted no time in expressing their feelings on social media. While some slammed captain Sarfaraz Ahmed for yawning behind the stumps, others questioned the fitness of Pakistani cricketers after a video of them eating junk food went viral. ðThat's the video you shot without asking us,disrespecting our privacy even though we had a child with us?& got told off for doing so,& u came up with this crap?FYI 'outing' was dinner & yes ppl are allowed to eat if they lose a match!Bunch of fools!Try better content nxt timeð https://t.co/51gnkMWUYu — Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) June 15, 2019 There were also some tweets targeting Mirza, who was seen in the company of her hubby Shoaib Malik alongside his teammates. Tired of the criticism, Mirza hit back at the trolls by tweeting: "That's the video you shot without asking us, disrespecting our privacy even though we had a child with us? & got told off for doing so,& u came up with this crap? FYI 'outing' was dinner & yes ppl are allowed to eat if they lose a match! Bunch of fools! Try better content nxt time". But, amidst all that, Veena Malik joined the chorus and probably took it too far by schooling the Indian tennis star on parenting. Sania, I am actually so worried for the kid. You guys took him to a sheesha place isn't it Hazardious? Also as far as I know Archie's is all about junk food which isn't good for athletes/Boys. You must know well as you are mother and athlete yourself? https://t.co/RRhaDfggus — VEENA MALIK (@iVeenaKhan) June 17, 2019 It all began when the Pakistani actress tweeted out: "Sania, I am actually so worried for the kid. You guys took him to a sheesha place isn't it Hazardious? Also as far as I know Archie's is all about junk food which isn't good for athletes/Boys. You must know well as you are mother and athlete yourself?". Veena,I hav not taken my kid to a sheesha place. Not that it's any of your or the rest of the world's business cause I think I care bout my son a lot more than anyone else does :) secondly I am not Pakistan cricket team's dietician nor am I their mother or principal or teacher- https://t.co/R4lXSm794B — Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) June 17, 2019 In response, the Indian tennis star minced no words: "Veena,I hav not taken my kid to a sheesha place. Not that it's any of your or the rest of the world's business cause I think I care bout my son a lot more than anyone else does :) secondly I am not Pakistan cricket team's dietician nor am I their mother or principal or teacher". To know when they sleep, wake up and eat .. thank you for your concern though .. means a lot âð½ https://t.co/R4lXSm794B — Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) June 17, 2019 Mirza also mentioned the Pakistani actress' scandalous magazine cover but deleted the tweet soon after. Reconsidering her words, Mirza excluded the magazine taunt and tweeted again: "To know when they sleep, wake up and eat..thank you for your concern though..means a lot". But, despite deleting her tweet, Mirza, who had blocked the Pakistani actress by then, couldn't stop Veena from revealing the screenshot of her tweet on the microblogging website. Have some guts & don't delete ur tweets.Fortunately the technology has progressed so much that people can't deny their acts.Oh the magazine's cover u mentioned had morphed images. Also I can bringup all the controversies U have ever had bt I would rather not divert the discusion. pic.twitter.com/8qednFvEBz — VEENA MALIK (@iVeenaKhan) June 17, 2019 "Have some guts & don't delete ur tweets. Oh the magazine's cover u mentioned had morphed images. Also I can bring up all the controversies U have ever had bt I would rather not divert the discusion," the Pakistani actress tweeted. Great to hear that u didn't took ur kid their. Oh did I mentioned you are a dietician or mother of the Pak team? I said u are an athlete and u must know how much fitness is important for athletes. Also aren't u a wife of cricketer? U should take care of his wellbeing.Isn't it? https://t.co/zZKS3r0xSk — VEENA MALIK (@iVeenaKhan) June 17, 2019 Continuing her barrage on Twitter, Veena wrote: "Great to hear that u didn't took ur kid their. Oh did I mentioned you are a dietician or mother of the Pak team? I said u are an athlete and u must know how much fitness is important for athletes. Also, aren't u a wife of cricketer? Thank you for opening up to the world and showing your true colors! Much Love Veena Malik ð⨠— VEENA MALIK (@iVeenaKhan) June 17, 2019 After calling her out, Veena thanked Mirza for showing her true colours. "Also your tweet shows that me being worried for my country and cricket team has triggered you so much. Thank you for opening up to the world and showing your true colors! Much Love Veena Malik," she tweeted. Retweeting a reply, Veena then left a piece of advice for the beloved 'bhabhi', bringing it to her attention that personal attacks will not take her anywhere. "Dearest Bhabhi, Attacking someone personally and reaching new heights of being low will not take you anywhere. Love, Veena Malik," she wrote on Twitter.
  2. One of the most pragmatic captains and skilful batsmen of his time, Michael Vaughan remains a fan-favourite long after his retirement from international cricket. Not one to shy away from speaking his mind, the former England captain has established himself as one of the most respected voices in the sport. From his informative match analysis to honest reviews, Vaughan continues to garner public interest on social media. With the ICC World Cup currently underway, Vaughan is quite busy expressing his views on players, teams and notable performances in the tournament. During India's six-wicket triumph over South Africa at the Rose Bowl on 5th June, the England veteran labelled Kedar Jadhav as his "new favourite bowler". Kedar Jadhav is my new favourite bowler .... !! — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 5, 2019 Clearly, there was a touch of sarcasm in Vaughan's remark. Jadhav, a batting all-rounder, was used by Virat Kohli as a sixth bowler to get some overs in quickly. And, given his role, Jadhav did alright, conceding 16 runs from four overs without any wicket to his name. Calling Jadhav his new favourite bowler was more of a dig than praise by Vaughan - something that didn't go down well with one particular Indian fan. Typical English ex-player-turned-expert. Even the best of them (Vaughan isn't one of them) only follow non-England players when they play in England, and even if they've played there before, they react like they're watching them for the first time, often with condescension. https://t.co/LEUTVJHpV6 — Karthik Krishnaswamy (@the_kk) June 5, 2019 Responding to Vaughan's tweet, an Indian fan called the former England cricketer a “typical ex-player-turned-expert” who wasn't among the best produced by England over the years. "Typical English ex-player-turned-expert. Even the best of them (Vaughan isn't one of them) only follow non-England players when they play in England, and even if they've played there before, they react like they're watching them for the first time, often with condescension," the Indian fan tweeted. Oh shut up you idiot .... https://t.co/G51VgQfdmp — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 5, 2019 Called out for his remarks, Vaughan lashed out at the Indian cricket fan before tweeting: "Oh shut up you idiot". Vaughan's feisty response got mixed reactions on social media. While some slammed his remarks, others lauded him for making the right noise. Don't cry ð — Happyð®ð³ (@Cricketician_) June 5, 2019 Kudos to you Micheal for making the right noises, knowing full well it'd awaken the zombies. Takes guts! Seriously, well done. ð — Lakshmanan (@Suresh_ame) June 5, 2019 Truth hurts!!!! — Saurabh (@SteynGun_) June 5, 2019 They're just attention seekers, don't give your time to them! — Setu Purohit (@SETU30) June 5, 2019 Well done there is a saying Donkey can't understand the smell of camphor... This guy no different — SathyaRam (@sathyaram) June 5, 2019 Good reply!! — Karuna prakash (@Prakash92802815) June 5, 2019
  3. In the Premier League title race this season, Manchester City have found a potent challenger in Liverpool who are giving the defending champions a run for their money. Such has been the level of competition between the two Premier League giants that it has made the ongoing season an absolute cracker for the fans. With the tournament nearing a befitting finale, there is no margin for error for City and Liverpool as they chase the top honours. Thus, when the Pep Guardiola side squared off against Chelsea over the weekend, all eyes were on City to keep their title dreams alive. For a team that found themselves chasing Liverpool following their shock loss to Newcastle United earlier, City showed no signs of panic or lacklustre play during their rampaging 6-0 triumph against the Blues at the Etihad. While Sergio Aguero bagged yet another hat-trick of goals, Raheem Sterling scored a brace alongside Illkay Gundogan's strike to cut a sorry figure for Maurizio Sarri's side. © Reuters The Blues conceded four goals in the first 25 minutes and eventually gave away two more by the final whistle to register their worst result since 7-0 drubbing to Nottingham Forest in 1991. It was also their third straight defeat in an away game which further irked the Chelsea faithful. The result undeniably left the visitors red-faced and the travelling fans were clearly not impressed. Owing to their dismal outing, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger approached the stands where the away fans were seated and apologised for their poor show. But, one fan wasn't ready to accept Rudiger's apology. Rudiger staying to apologise to Chelsea fans. At least he cares pic.twitter.com/lmLyEprK1c — Lewis (@CarefreeLewisG) February 10, 2019 Responding to Rudiger's apology, the fan gave a mouthful to the Chelsea defender over their dreadful performance. In reply, Rudiger reportedly yelled back at the fan before exchanging heated comments with him. According to Football.London, Rudiger said: "I've come over to say sorry, stand in front of me if you've something to say". The former Roma defender climbed over the top of the barricade to speak to the fan. He then, asked the steward if he could cross the barricade to go and talk to the fan in person, though he was not allowed to do so. Later, the footballer gave his shirt to a young fan before joining back his teammates on the ground as the majority of the fans gave him applause. Following their loss, Chelsea now find themselves languishing at the sixth spot in the table. With the Champions League qualification on the line, their current position in the league has surely got their fans worried. But, the biggest problem at hand appears to be their manager Sarri who is expected to have a crucial conversation with the club's owner Roman Abramovich to discuss his future.
  4. Who said social initiatives and a good round of tipples cannot go hand-in-hand? Social initiatives work to make our surroundings better, whereas booze makes everything...erm...better! Period. Imagine all the possibilities we could explore if these two aspects came together and the end result was a win-win situation for us all? That would be a living dream and seems like someone's already decided to look into this and turn it into reality! A beach bar in Goa has come up with the perfect plan to get people to take care of the busy beaches which are corrupted by the callousness of the umpteen visitors, who stop by on a daily basis and leave the place littered. © Instagram According to a report by The Weather Channel India, 'Waste Bar' offers free beer in exchange for the waste collected from the beaches. The aim is to make people aware and accountable for their surroundings. The campaign was started by Noreen van Holstein in collaboration with Drishti Marine, a private beach management agency that also works with Goa tourism to provide damage control to the situation. The initiative was kick-started on 30th January at the Zanzibar shack located in the Baga village. Apart from all the good you do to the environment by participating in this initiative, it also allows you to get around the Rs. 2,000 drinking fine by collecting 10 beer bottle caps or 20 cigarette butts or 5 plastic straws. This waste-bar in Goa is a hang out of sorts, where one can exchange segregated garbage for a free beer. Read more: https://t.co/cFShDuCjyJ ð¸IANS pic.twitter.com/mo2myMXGr9 — The Weather Channel India (@weatherindia) February 4, 2019 Holstein also said that the concept of the waste bar isn't a new one. Such initiatives had already been tried and tested in the Netherlands, and the world has picked up on the idea over the years. She said, “People come to Goa for two things: beach and the bar. So let's give them what they come for – free drinks in exchange for garbage that they collect. This ensures that they become conscious of the waste that is there on the beach and that trash actually has value! They will leave Goa with a positive feeling and a clean beach.” Other beaches around Goa are also set to pick up the concept in the upcoming months, but Twitter already has a lot of good stuff to say about it. This idea has great potential. Should be applied beyond beaches and beyond Goa. @MCGM_BMC — Niks29 (@Niks292) February 4, 2019 Now that's something India really needs to learn and should be proud of. #Goa — Avani Shah (@avani_16) February 4, 2019 Tks, waste-bar. Good luckð I truly hope that this exercise spreads message of cleanliness and hygiene among all the visitors in Goa. May all of us learn to become responsible & self-disciplined citizens. Keep beaches clean & prevent trash from going into the beach....ð#Goa — Vandana (@CharouRathore) February 4, 2019 We hope to see some great changes in Goa, courtesy the Waste Bar.
