  1. Karan Johar's magnum opus ' Kalank' opened today and while the movie looked like a beautiful, aesthetic (but heavily inspired from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's works) watch, the majority of the reaction from the audience today has been quite 'meh'. 2. The curse is finally over, ladies and gentleman! Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have finally won their first IPL match of the twelfth season and looked really good while doing so, too. After Ravichandran Ashwin's King XI Punjab (KXIP) set a respectable total of 173 on their home ground at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, behind an excellent knock played by Chris 'Universe Boss' Gayle (99 not out), it was time for Kohli and gang to try and chase it down. RCB openers AB de Villiers and Kohli, himself, walked down to the pitch with an aggressive mindset from the beginning and managed to keep the assertion alive for the better half of the second innings, which helped the 'Play Bold' army seal the deal in the final overs. Forming yet another successful partnership, Kohli (67 off 53) and de Villiers (59 not out) were finally able to help the team “cross that line” as the skipper mentioned in an interview after the match. In a different feature video uploaded on the Indian Premier League's official website, it was the South African who held the microphone for the Indian captain for a brief Q&A during which de Villiers asked Kohli about the reasons behind the 30-year-old is. AB's kids knock Anushka and Virat's door at the hotel every morning to wake them up and wish them good morning. "The best thing that has happened to me is me getting married", Virat got me gushing over them again. 'Stability, balance & good wives' https://t.co/T03I8FnjT6 — m (@Manasa2922x) April 14, 2019 “I think over the last year or so, the best thing to have happened to me is me getting married. It has literally changed my whole world,” he said. “I have the most beautiful wife, the most beautiful person and that has been the strongest factor in my life.” “It has changed the way I was before, I was too intense in life but she always keeps me motivated and positive,” Kohli showed appreciation towards Anushka Sharma. “I could not have been luckier to have someone who understands my mindset being in that position herself.” “'Stability, balance and a good wife' is a good life,” said the former Proteas leader in the end.
  3. We are less than two weeks away from experiencing the end of an era when the final piece of the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 'Avengers: Endgame' drops in theatres worldwide on 26th April 2019 and nerdy people like us from all around the world have dedicated their lives to predict what the three-hour long movie has in store for us. Such a responsibility, therefore, leads to the formation of numerous theories and speculations ranging from “meh” to absolutely bizarre reactions from the audience and a seemingly endless flow of discussion. One such theory talks about the final outcome of 'Endgame' and the role of Doctor Stephen Strange, who's currently in the 'dust' form on Thanos' home planet of Titan. Before Peter Quill a.k.a. the main reason behind the destruction of half the universe, decided to ruin the ad hoc Avengers' plan to get the Infinity gauntlet out of Thanos' hand, Strange spoke of about 1,40,00,605 scenarios in the future and that there was only one favourable possibility for all of humanity. And during the events of 'Infinity War', Doctor Strange was forced to choose between the life of Tony Stark and his beloved Time Stone and he decided to keep Iron Man alive while giving the Infinity stone to the 'Mad Titan'. Strange later told Stark that it was important for him to stay alive if that one possibility were to come true. via GIPHY Now, if you rewatch the scene from the movie when Strange gives the Time Stone to Thanos, you'd notice that it is glowing and that too not a dull, smouldering glow but the kind each of the stones glow when they are being actively used. via GIPHY This suggests that Stephen Strange might be using the Time stone while surrendering it, maybe even to create a time loop as he did to trap Dormammu and protect the rest of the planet from danger in “real-time”. A couple of months ago, a Redditor by the name of RahulVijh had forward a theory according to which Strange had trapped the Avengers and Thanos in a similar time loop at this point to ensure that they finally reach that one outcome, regardless of how many retakes goes into getting there. The glowing of the stone, therefore, might signal the starting point of the loop. What also gives this argument further weightage is how the trailers for 'Endgame' have been including a lot of footage from the previous movies in the timeline. Also, directors, Anthony and Joseph Russo have admitted to tweaking some clips from older movies to make them look a little different than each other, suggesting all the minor differences that may have occurred in the various times that particular event took place. via GIPHY The more you pay attention to the theory, the more sense it makes and with Dr Strange probably being the only person on the good guys' side, who has the ability to see the future outcomes, the conjecture might be worth putting some thought into.
  4. NASCAR races are extremely fun to watch. The sight of sports cars covered in sponsored logos just whizzing past in a split of a second, the sound of engines working on overload combined with the smell of burning tyres grinding against asphalt just gives a rush of adrenaline to the viewer. What makes the sport so exciting, rather nerve-wracking, is the fear of a blunder that could take place even with the slightest of nudges between the races that are going at 320 kph. Car crashes are pretty common in racing events, much like NASCAR Daytona 500 which produced one of the biggest collisions in the history of the sport. When driver Paul Menard tried to do a 'bump and run' around Matt DiBenedetto's car number 95, he nudged the rear passenger side of DiBenedetto's ride resulting in it to spin out in the middle of the race track while knocking out 17 cars in his way with the race in its last leg. Although nobody got injured during the crash, which is miraculous to say the least and Menard took complete responsibility for the entire incident, what prepares a race driver's psyche to take the hit during the smash is worth talking about. In an interview with Tampa Bay Times, NASCAR driver and one of the sufferers of the Daytona crash, Aric Almirola shares his experience. “At a certain point in the wreck, you're just kind of along for the ride. The initial instinct is to try to drive the car and avoid the wreck. Once you know that you're in the wreck, you kind of just brace for impact,” said the driver. “A lot of people take their hands off the steering wheel, but that is very unnatural for me. I keep my hands on the steering wheel. I kind of lock my elbow in and just, everything tenses up and tightens up and you brace for impact.” Amongst the first cars to get involved in the chain reaction that Menard had started, Almirola's ride (# 10) got tagged behind car #12 and almost did a somersault. Due to the momentum of the drag in favour of the car, Almirola stayed on his wheels and didn't turn over. © NASCAR In totality, the crash led to wrecking 21 cars (almost half of the contestants) but luckily not a single driver got injured. Obviously, it wasn't long before people took to Twitter to show their concerns towards the mishap and the safety of the racers: This still amazes me how big this crash was even for Daytona #NASCAR #Daytona500 pic.twitter.com/Shh7tLzp0c — Penske17 (@Penske_17) February 20, 2019 Now that's a nasty crash... #Daytona — Steve Twynstra (@SteveTwynstra) February 17, 2019 The biggest Daytona 500 crash of the whole night!!! pic.twitter.com/dvYojiuAzG — Gameoholic1994 (@gameoholic1994) February 17, 2019 Daytona 500. 5. If you still haven't watched 'Uri' you are missing out on a really good movie. Brilliant storytelling, excellent direction and of course, the stellar Vicky Kaushal leading the pack to the 250 crore mark. Even if you haven't watched the movie, you must definitely be aware of the famous dialogue 'How's the josh' which has gone viral since. The dialogue has now become insanely popular around the globe and social media is flooded with different renditions of people chanting it with great pride. However, behind everything that leaves impact, there is something equally impactful that inspires it in the first place. The case with this viral dialogue is also similar in nature. Recently, the director of 'Uri', Aditya Dhar explained the inspiration behind this viral dialogue. “I had some friends from defence background, so with them, I used to go to a lot of Army clubs. There was one in Delhi where we used to go for Christmas or New Year parties. There used to be a retired Brigadier who would line up all the kids in front of him and have a chocolate in his hand. He would say 'How's the josh?' and we were to respond with 'High Sir!' The kid who was the loudest got the chocolate. Being a foodie, I used to be the loudest and always got the chocolate. I have heard very few Army people use the phrase. It is not something which is used extensively. What I did was I used the line in the right way in the film and now it has taken off to another level”, he said. © Instagram He further went on to add that this line was in his memory when he was penning down the movie and hence it had to be there. “The line was there right from the first draft. As a writer, we write according to our personal experiences, our memories. It is an amalgamation of everything. I had the line with me in my memory and this was the perfect film for it to come out.” The movie is based on the 2016 Uri terror attack and the retaliatory surgical strike by Indian on Pakistan that followed. The movie is already a blockbuster and has catapulted Vicky Kaushal to the hall of fame of actors.
  6. If you thought India's Parliament sessions are hilarious and that nothing can come even remotely close to them, wait till you hear this. Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was summoned by US lawmakers, in a House Judiciary Committee hearing, for a grilling session. Of the gazillion questions thrown at him, there was one that gave the world a new face for the word 'idiot'. A congresswoman, Zoe Lofgren, asked Sundar Pichai on why US President Donald Trump's image pops up when someone searches for 'idiot'. She asked, "If you Google the word 'idiot' under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. How would that happen? How does search work so that that would occur?" She said that she just searched that and further asked if this was a case of intentional bias and manipulation. For all those who managed to control your laughter till the end of this question, proudly pat your backs. © Reuters Pichai, with a face as straight as a line, tried to explain them how the big tech companies work, how Google indexes webpages and how the algorithms function by taking into account various factors like relevance, popularity, keywords and more. CONGRESS: "When I type in the word 'idiot' images of Donald Trump appear." GOOGLE: "Yeah, we told you it works." #GoogleHearing pic.twitter.com/SMofyukcdd — Mrs. Betty Bowers (@BettyBowers) December 11, 2018 "So, it's not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what we're going to show the user. It's basically a compilation of what users are generating, and trying to sort through that information?" the congresswoman further asks. To which, Sundar Pichai further explains how they don't manually intervene in any particular search result. We don't know if they were convinced with this answer, but this entire session only shows how little the lawmakers know about how internet and technology works.
  7. The 'MeToo' movement in our country is a wake-up call for all those eyes and ears which have been shut to a horrendous reality, that happens behind closed doors, on open roads and affects every victim in a different way. Tanushree Dutta shook the foundation of the hypocritical, diabolical world of Bollywood after she accused Nana Patekar of harassing her on a film set years ago. Her many interviews explain the trauma she had to endure, and how instead of helping her, everyone in the crew went against her and she was forced to stay silent. This bold move opened the gates of courage for many women, both in the industry and outside of it, to speak their story out loud and share their trauma with the world. Soon the social media was flooded with a plethora of #MeToo stories that shocked and baffled us in equal measure. Amongst the names of many perpetrators, AIB co-founders Tanmay Bhat, Gursimram Khamba and even Alok Nath were called out by various women. While every accused man is trying to either issue an apology or wash off these accusations, it is the deafening silence of the big Bollywood stars on this entire boiling issue of sexual misconduct, that is jarring the most. 'Queen' director Vikas Bahl was accused by several women, including Kangana Ranaut of misconduct and instead of offering her major support, most superstars have decided to stay shut. May we ask why? Is it because it might affect your double-faced relations in the industry, or is it costing you an entire movie? Offering support and calling out perpetrators is what these so-called 'influencers' have cleverly chosen to ignore. © Instagram In a recent interview, Bollywood Imran Khan came up and spoke openly about the entire Vikas Bahl episode. His statements are an eye-opener and make you question the shallow nature of this industry, that is supposedly meant to give wings to one's dreams. Imran claims that the entire industry knew about Vikas Bahl but everyone chose to ignore it. “I think it was long long long overdue. There have been times when I wanted to speak out. I was advised to stay quiet because they said people will assume I am trying to grab publicity. They (people) will say I am trying to become relevant and come in the news since my films have not worked well. Time and again, people around me will tell me to not speak up. There are a lot of things that have happened in front of me and bothered me for years. Even after being aware of so many things, I could not say it out because I somewhere felt no one will support me on it.” © Instagram Speaking of a first-hand account that he witnessed, he shared the details of how deep-rooted this problem is and just how 'normal' it is for everyone to accept this behaviour. “Very early in my career, there was a director who was auditioning for the female lead in a film. He made girls do a photoshoot in bikinis, in sexy poses. These photographs went straight to the director's personal laptops. These were not costume tests. These were not even used for marketing. So, what was he doing with these photographs? Later, he was showing these photos to the three shortlisted actresses and other women on the sets. I found it appalling. It is sexism and definitely an emotional and mental harassment. It was a wrong usage of power. There is a story later that happened with the actress. I hope she speaks of it through the story I am telling, it is her choice," he said. About Vikas Bahl, Imran blatantly claims that Bollywood is not a stranger to this issue, “everyone is talking about Vikas Bahl. I have heard his stories from three other actresses. Ranging from inappropriate touching to straight up saying that 'if you were cast in the film, what will I get in return?'. Again, I am telling you what I know directly through the actresses or from the industry. The story of this girl (in case of Vikas Bahl) came somewhere a year ago, if I am not wrong. Everyone in the film industry knew. I was at a social gathering 5-6 months ago, with a lot of people and the conversation came about MeToo movement in Hollywood. At a point, I said 'what about Bollywood?'. The Vikas Bahl matter was brushed under the carpet, a few weeks after the news first appeared, I saw him smiling, posing for pictures with every celebrity in the industry. At that point, he started making a film with Hrithik (Roshan). I was like how is it in Hollywood a culprit is shunned but here he was making a proper film. Everyone was socialising with him. So, I brought it up at the party and realised only I was the odd one there.” © Instagram While we are glad that a mainstream Bollywood figure has spoken, we still wonder how long will it be before others let the skeletons out of the closet. It is funny and obnoxious at the same time that our beloved stars go all out for campaigns and voice opinions about issues, when their movies are around the corner or they are associated with a certain brand. True, it took Imran years to open up about this and this doesn't mean that he is not guilty of hiding behind the garb of Bollywood's golden silence, but we do give credit to the man for at least asking women to speak up. “These people might not come out in open, but I wanted to stand up and say I support them completely. I cannot be silent about it anymore. My conscience will not allow me to. As a man, I know what it is to say that. I do not want to deal with negative publicity, but how these women have come out is brave. I do not want them to feel that men in the industry are not standing by them. I have chosen my words and said what I intended to say. I have been silent for long enough and it makes me feel dirty.” The people who were lauding Hollywood for its brave 'MeToo' movement are the same people who chose to wrap their silence in crafted hypocrisy. What they forget is the fact that people are evolving and no one is a fool here. You might wonder that an actor's job is to simply entertain and work towards making a wonderful movie for the fans, but allow me to explain how they also have a social responsibility to speak up for things when the issues demand their attention. Our influencers, our idols tweet and post about random things and portray an example of how certain people might want to be, so why on Earth, when this is happening in your fraternity and people you work and party with are involved, you simply choose to not speak up?
  8. We don't need to remind you how the whirlwind romance of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas managed to flood our timelines all day, every day for a while back there. So much so, that even those who could not care less about the couple, knew literally everything about their story. What started as casual dating from the Met Gala turned into a beautiful relationship, as they got engaged on August 18th with a traditional Roka ceremony in Mumbai. © Instagram Priyanka and Nick, at present, are simply enjoying their time together as a newly-engaged couple and the shutterbugs can't get enough of them. From vacationing at happening destinations to planning romantic getaways at their favourite spot in the Mammoth Mountain, California, they are living a beautiful life indeed. And here we can't even afford to be jealous of them! © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram The duo made their first appearance together at the Met Gala, where they met and walked for Ralph Lauren. Talking about how they actually met, our Desi girl told Jimmy Kimmel in an interview, "Yeah, we were on the same table and we already knew each other. So he was like 'Hey, you wanna go together?' And I was like 'Yeah, OK, let's go together'. It ended up working out." © Instagram Both Nick and Priyanka have aced in their respective professional lives and have millions of fans across the globe. While Nick is an acclaimed pop singer, Priyanka, on the other hand, after ruling the Indian film industry, is now eyeing to conquer Hollywood as well. Priyanka, who does not know the meaning of taking a backseat, has been on the rise ever since she came into the spotlight. In 2000 she was crowned as Miss World and since then, she has only soared further in her career. 12 years of knowing these girls and in minutes they get all love struck by the #lovebug... thank you @nickjonas and our families. In 2017, we saw her being ranked 97 in the Forbes list of most powerful women in the world. As per reports, PeeCee's yearly income is around $10 million (Rs 64 crores) and her net worth is estimated to be at $28 million (Rs 200 crore). A post shared by PC_globaldomination (@pc_globaldomination) on Sep 2, 2018 at 3:31pm PDT Priyanka gets a major chunk of her earnings from the movies she picks. She has also changed the brand game and represents many brands across the globe. She has done over 50 films and her career in the West is soaring high. She has worked in Hollywood movies like 'Baywatch', 'A Boy Like Jake' and was the lead character in the ABC series 'Quantico'. In her latest Hollywood project, she is soon to be seen in the upcoming rom-com 'Isn't It Romantic', starring Liam Hemsworth, Rebel Wilson, and Adam DeVine. Jonas has also ventured in acting and was seen in 'Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle'. However, we can't help but wonder how many zeroes will be added to their cheque in case they star together in a project? Pretty sure it will result in more fabulous vacations that we can only dream of going on.
  9. Actors are often blamed for charging a hefty fee for a movie. Some even blame that due to this, producers often make less profit or at times, end with up nothing. Khans in B-town often charge an exorbitant amount of some hundred crores and that is something which will never change. The bigger the star, the bigger is their fee. However, contrary to the ongoing canon, not many know that Aamir Khan has actually stopped charging a fee for his movies. Talking in a media interaction, Aamir revealed, “Actually I don't charge a fee. People don't know that, but it has been years since I have stopped charging a fee.” Wonder how he makes those big bucks then? © Twitter It all started when Shabana Azmi, who was sitting in the audience at the event, took the chance and asked him about stars demanding 80 per cent as their fee, and that how can one make a successful film with just 20 per cent left in hand. Quite a valid question we must say, got us thinking as well. To which Aamir explained, that his way of earning money is different. He doesn't charge a single penny until the makers have recovered all their costs of making of the film, including promotions to the producer's profit. © Twitter Revealing his model he said, if the film fails, he gets nothing and if it is successful, he has a higher profit share. The actor said he has always ensured that his producers earn money, as it helps secure his career and film choices. “I think the script is the foundation. I ensure that once I love the story and the film is in the making, people who are investing money should not face loss. I don't allow the producer to shoulder the responsibility alone. My first rupee comes to me when the film's cost is recovered in every aspect, after the producer's and everybody else's money is recovered. That's the model I work with, and I take a higher cut in the percentage because I am risking my time on that, and I think producers are happy with that too,” he added. © Twitter He firmly believes that this is the best model that works for his movie. Explaining further he said, “If a producer is not losing money, it is but obvious that he will sign me for the next film. That is why I always ensure that if I am signed in a film, there is no loss." The first time Aamir tried this model was in 2001 during the making of 'Lagaan'. “Since that film was one of the expensive films of that time, and was breaking a lot of rules of mainstream Indian cinema, that is why I felt the importance of taking the responsibility. When I come on board, producers and financiers do not question me on the subject I chose for a film because they trust me, they have faith in me. That is why I want to ensure the profit." © Twitter Now, that's not just an interesting but a very smart business model as well. Clearly, he is called 'Mr. Perfectionist' for a reason. He makes sure that making money is a win-win situation for both the actor, the maker and other people involved in the movie making. Sounds fair. On the work front, Aamir is busy with the work of his upcoming film 'Thugs of Hindostan'. The film, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Shaikh and is scheduled to release on Diwali 2018.
  10. The power of social media is such, that it can make or break a perception and spread rumours like wildfire. He wanted to show him the wear and tear the ball had endured," Shastri said in an interview with TOI. He further explained that the 'retirement' speculations were all rubbish, saying,“That's rubbish. MS is not going anywhere.” © Twitter Whew! Seems like all the critics and fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, for there is still hope for another helicopter shot in the future!
